Can surt the net, but can't logon to hotmail, yahoo ... or post a message here!

Q: Can surt the net, but can't logon to hotmail, yahoo ... or post a message here!

I'm having a weird problem for the past few days. On my laptop, I can surf to most websites, but can't sign into hotmail and yahoo mail ... I get a 'Page cannot be displayed' error after I enter my username and password.

However, I have a desktop as well ... and at the same time that my laptop browser gives an error, I can logon to the same websites from my desktop without an issue.

I've also have experienced a similar problem logging onto eBay, mapquest etc … and I had the same problem right now while posting this message! My laptop gave a ‘page cannot be displayed’ error when I clicked on ‘preview post’ … so I had to post this from my desktop.

This problem has been haunting me for several days on just these few websites, so its not a case of a server being temporarily down.

The laptop has WinXP, and the browser is IE ver
6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
The desktop has Win98, and the broswer is IE ver 6.0.2800.1106

I had uninstalled JRE from my laptop earlier this week; and I wondered whether that was causing this problem. But the problem persists even after I reinstalled 'Java 2 Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_02'.

Please help!

Preferred Solution: Can surt the net, but can't logon to hotmail, yahoo ... or post a message here!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Here's one I haven't run into before. When I try to type a Hotmail or Yahoo Mail message I have no problem ... if I set the rich text editor off (Hotmail) or set it at Plain (Yahoo). If I set the rich text editor on (Hotmail) or set "colour and graphics" (Yahoo), I can't even get my cursor in the message box. I don't know if this is connected, but I've also been getting some weird error messages regarding scripting (I can't make head nor tils of them), and I can't seem to access some on-line documents.

Anyone know whazzup??

I'm actually posting this on behalf of an acquaintance who is having the following problem:

"Can't log into:

Yahoo Mail
Gmail
Hotmail

Every time I try, I get the "Sorry we can't find the page we are looking for because we don't give a French United Connection Kingdom"

I have no clue why this happened! I think I'm the only one with this problem!
Please help."

He did try to sign up for here, but since he can't get into the accounts, he can't get his activiation code!
What could this be?

I'm not sure whether this falls in your e-mail forum or this forum, since I"m not sure this is a hijack or other nasty security situation. If this is in the wrong forum, I apologize.
Thank you.
P.S. I've already informed him that he might have to download HijackThis!

For the past week, since 8/18/2004, E-mail that I send to Yahoo and Hotmail via Outlook Express 6, is being delayed. It is only certain addresses. It is taking up to 2 days and occassionally there is a mail failure. Hotmail sends me messages that the mail is being delayed and not to resend, but the recipient never receives it. My E-mail address is not blocked. When I send via internet, all is well. I have no other problems sending or recieivng to others.

Any thoughts?

I am having some trouble with my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. I can open mail in Yahoo but can't delete it. I can't even open any email at Hotmail. It seems when I click on a button online the browser doesn't go anywhere. I tried various things suggested in this forum but nothing seems to work. Please help me. My computer is working great now that you guys helped me last week. I am extremely grateful!!

A:Can't delete Hotmail or Yahoo mail and can't open Hotmail

Hi
Lots of people have problems with Yahoo and Hotmail accounts. The most common causes seem to be cookie rejection, incorrect firewall settings, and/or an overly aggressive and intrusive firewall like ZoneAlarm that does a lot of things without asking.

Are you able to access the email accounts from a computer at another location? (other house, library, etc.)

Did you recently change any settings in a program or install a new program or a new version of or update for one, especially some security program (firewall, antivirus, etc.)?

Do you have a router?

Is your trash folder overfull?

I am wondering if my Hotmail address causes differences on the Outlook.com interface in Windows 8 as opposed to a true ms or live email address. One reason I ask is that at the top left of the interface of MAIL it says Hotmail. When I log on to Outlook.com in a browser I have the "gear icon" for settings. When I click on the METRO TILE MAIL and the interface is presented along with my mail I can find no where to change settings. If I reveal the "charms" and click on settings I can see nothing that helps?

> Would I have more options if I were to obtain a true MS email and not use Hotmail addy
> If there is not difference, why can't I find the gear icon or a place to change settings?

Windows 7 Lenovo Desktop, on home network.

Crazy locking out IOs at post user logon time. Once logged on, IOs like crazy and cannot track down culprit.

Proceexp.exe is not singling out the probles(s) either.

If I come back in half to hour, I can use the system. sometimes rebooting will not have the crazy IOs start up, however shutdown can hang with IOs still going, forcing a power button shutdown.

Culprits? Windows 7 (tons of svchost task), Windows update? Avast antivirus? Maybe one or more photo suite scanning for new photos? LSASs, CRSS?

I have a Blackberry and its desktop software hates HPs software, about half the HP suite for the 6500 is uninstalled. However a recent RIM update improve reliability and performance 100%

I am still on Office 2003.

Would there be any IO trackers by module, at the exe, or dll level?

The security settings on your browsers may be set too high. Let's check in IE.
1.) Open up IE
2.) Tools
3.) Internet Options
4.) Security tab
5.) Does the vertical slider bar say your security is set to "High" instead of "Medium-High" or "Medium"?

My Windows version is XP Home and application was Internet ExplorerRecently, I opened a new email at Yahoo.com. Since then I have not been back until today because it is just a backup email. However, my son was here and tried to access his account there and he kept getting a Internet Explorer box that says that Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. This happened a couple of weeks ago and I thought it just had something to do with his stuff but today it happened to me several times. It creates a report and you can send or not send to Microsoft. When you click either button Internet Explorer closes and you have to reopen it. This is not happening on any other website at this time. It has occurred before at different times but never when I go to one particular website. It won't even let me logon. I click on check mail and when it gets to the logon page this message shows up. You can click on the report to see technical information about problem and here's what's at the top:AppName: Internet Explorer AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: oleaut32.dllModVer: 5.0.2600.2180 Offset: 0000af08Then it has a bunch of techno info that I know nothing about and at the bottom it says that the file included in report is C:/DOCUME~1/Angela/LOCALS~1/Temp/3eb1_appcompat.txtCan anyone help me with this? Hopefully someone can help with this problem. I volunteer at a small private school and have successfully kept the computers up and running for 4 years, but I am at my wits end with this one. I have one computer in which everytime I try to go to www.yahoo.com I am automatically redirected to hotmail (by23fd.bay23.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/HoTMaiL). I've verified that the Symantec virus definitions are up to date (12-8-04), ran a virus scan which came back clean, ran Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE with up to date files, deleted all critical and negligible objects, deleted all quarantine files, ran Spybot S&D, corrected the 1 remaining item, deleted all cookies and temporary internet files, emptied the recycle bin, ran CWShredder (which found nothing), rebooted and I still have the problem. Another strange thing that is happening that may or may not be related is that I continually receive "network cable unplugged" like something is disabling the network connection for short time periods (several seconds) it only happens with the ethernet and not the wireless connection, so it may be a bad ethernet port, but thought I would mention it. And lastly, does anyone know what PLSRemoteSvc is? This is a laptop running Windows XP and is up to date on all critical updates.

I am working on a Win. 98 computer and have cable access to the net. I can surf with out much problem although it has begun to crash pretty often. Ad Aware SE and SpyBot seem to have helped this... Anyway the main problem is that when I go to Yahoo or Hotmail and try to "sign in" I get a "page can not be displayed" page. I have run ad aware se and spybot s & d. Both find many things to remove and seem to be able to remove everything. Also soon after a reboot I get a message that a virus has been detected from symantec antivirus "trojan vundo", I let it remove it but it keeps coming back.

I have downloaded the programs you sugessted in "How To Remove Winfixer / Virtumonde / Msevents / Trojan.vundo" however vundofix.exe didn't find anything and VirtumundoBeGone.exe says it will not run on a Win 98 computer. Is there anything else that I can use on Win 98? Thanks.

It's been almost three days since the last time I was able to access my hotmail and yahoo inboxes. My msn messenger works fine and shows how many new emails I have, however, after logging in, the page eventually just goes to 'this page cannot be displayed.' As for yahoo, I can access my account but not my inbox nor the compose box, sent folder, etc...I used a different computer in a cyber cafe and I was able to access and use my accounts, read and write emails. Also, I tried to access a friend's yahoo account on my computer and it worked fine as well, which I think is quite strange. Specifically, my computer and my brother's computer are hooked up to the same router and modem and we have both experienced these problems. My brother had installed an antivirus program called 'Bullguard' a few days ago, but only on his computer. We deleted it yesterday but that didn't solve the problem. Also, I downloaded the new windows service pack yesterday and a security update but that didn't do anything either.
I really can't think of anything else and I hope that someone on this forum can help me out.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!

All three web sites show me an error sign of "http400" (invalid address). But strangely, I can go up to my toolbar and access google without any problems. I tried typing the addresses manually but get the same results. I have not received this message on any other web sites except some that use one of the names of these sites in the address. It is very very strange. I have never had this problem before. No matter what I try, I am unable to access my Email accounts. On hotmail, it does open the web site to the log-in page but when I enter my password, I get the "Cannot be found..."
I did notice that when I made an error in the password, it did come back and tell me to reenter but after that I received " Cannot be found."

Before this happened, I uninstalled a version of Trend Micro Virus and installed a newer version because I was having guarantine problems they were somehow accumulating and self multiplying until I had over 540... Read more

I am working on a Win. 98 computer and have cable access to the net. I can surf with out much problem although it has begun to crash pretty often. Anyway the main problem is that when I go to Yahoo or Hotmail and try to "sign in" I get a "page can not be displayed" page. I have run ad aware se and spybot s & d. Both find many things to remove but seem to be able to remove everything. Also soon after a reboot I get a message that a virus has been detected from symantec antivirus trojan vundo, I let it remove it but it keeps coming back.

I've made some progress (of sorts) with my many probs assoc with hotmail. I now have the pw's but still can't read anything or go through OE and I've just upgraded to OE6 in the vain hope that may have sorted me out. Anyway, I've tried to collect my hotmail through my Yahoo a/c because I cannot read hotmail through OE and can't be arsed to keep going to the web site to use the hotmail a/c. I can however use my Yahoo a/c with ease through OE so I thought why not get my hotmail through yahoo and therefore it will drop into my OE browser. Oh no, too easy! I configured Yahoo to do this and I seem to remember the default port the yahoo site suggested was 100. Anyway I had no idea of the port despite digging into tools a/c's etc. I configured it with the default port settings but hey ho it did not work. The message I got was something along the lines of port not found!. Please help someone.

ps those that have replied to earlier threads thanks a million I really appreciate you guys.

Hello areaInovice and Welcome -Sorry that we were a bit slow to reply to this very important post - I think I have only bad news for you - From your basic description of the situation, I can only say "you responded to a Fake Scam Email" - I get these emails about every week and delete them.At this time you Must save any contacts that you have and send a direct email to Both Yahoo! and Hotmail to request that your accounts be cancelled now -Do not use any of the contact methods that you were sent, as these are all FAKEThis is also the time to contact your banks or credit unions and ask for your Credit Cards etc. to be changed, or account names / numbers be changed. You may have accidentally given these people important data, like your Name, Address, and other personal information that can be used to scam you.I am not attempting to scare you beyond the fact that you have already been scammed by international thieves, who do this as a living. My Yahoo! account had another message yesterday that my account was almost full, but with only 500 inbox and 500 outbox items this is wrong -Yahoo! has virtually unlimited storage and will Never send you these messages, you never posted to M/soft but a Scammer who now has your email account You can try the FBI contact for Scams, sorry I do not have details, as I am in Australia, and we use another method to contact our Federal Police.Again I can only say sorry that this was not answered earlier, but I think it was sent t... hi i think i have a problem with my cookies or active X or something because i cant logon to some page that i registered at like this site but im logged on thankfully does anybody know how to fix it?

A:cant logon to yahoo mail and other sites

Hi!

Try Tools> Options>Privacy > "Accept cookies from cites until...I would go with "until I close (Firefox)/(IE)"
but then be sure to run your antivirus program, in case your computer will receive some tracking cookies, which is not that good.

Then about Active X. It was interesting to find the definition of this program: "A software technology developed by Microsoft that allows programmed capabilities or content to be delivered to Windows-based personal computers via the World Wide Web. Active X is notable for a complete lack of security controls; computer security experts discourage its use over the Internet".

Judging from that, if you have Active X, I suggest you switch it with something better.

Hope it works.

hey hey...

ok, here goes...

every time i try to log on to Yahoo Mail the browser window closes itself out when i hit the 'sign on' button or hit 'enter' after putting in my name and password.

i've tried everything in my somewhat limited bag of tricks... bazooka scanner, adaware, spybot search and destroy, and norton antivirus all failed me on this one...

first off... IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING THIS PROBLEM?

secondly... the only spy/adware i have at the moment that i have right now that i know of is some pop-up ad B.S. by 680180.net that i read about a little while ago. i'm going to try to kill it, but from all the accounts, it could take a while... and it's past 4am at the moment and no program i had worked for me or anyone whose complaints i read.

ANYHOO...

if anyone knows what my problem is (with the e-mail, wiseguys) help would be much appreciated.

and if the problem with the e-mail is related to the 680180 crap, i appologize for the premature post.

thanks all!

Hello, I have encountered a problem, which I have never experienced before to my computer knowledge.

It has been about a month and a half or so since I have dealt with a problem with yahoo, gmail and hotmail. It all started when I couldn't sign into yahoo messenger. I degraded back to an earlier version. It solved that problem. However, when prefer not to sign in to messenger and check my email from my browser alone. It'll connect and then finally bring up a network timeout. It seems like it occurs when I try to access login.yahoo.com or mail.yahoo.com. Well, when I sign into messenger. I have no trouble by clicking on the email symbol in the messenger's interface. I have ran a antivirus scan and such. It seems like it still doesn't clear up my problem. It comes up with things and cleans them. But, I don't believe any of those files are causing this.

It logs me in and after checking my email, I try to log out through the browser. But, it comes back to the network timeout problem.

It has happen to gmail and hotmail too. I have tried the following commands in dos. Which, Someone recommended elsewhere. dnsflush, ip configuration release, renew. I have tried clearing out my cookies and such in internet explorer and mozilla. Both of them can't connect to mail.yahoo.com unless with the help of my messenger. I have researched for blogs and such concerning a problem with yahoo or my internet service provider with no success. I have tried unplugging ... Read more

A:Yahoo & Hotmail Access problems

I just have to say how much I like Firefox. I just downloaded the program Friday at work and couldn't wait to try it at home. For the past two months with IE at home, I had suddenly been unable to access Hotmail. After loading Foxfire, I still could not access Hotmail and I lost Yahoo. I was confused, let me tell you. I read all kinds of Tech forums etc (way over my head) one site suggested that a program called "hijackthis" should be downloaded from www.spychecker.com this is a free program) to see the information in the files. Then they could be copied and pasted for examination. I did mine and compared it to other posted files. Mine contained a lot of Host files. Quite a few were for Hotmail and Yahoo with different location addresses. I have copied a few of them here.

O1 - Hosts: 65.54.244.250 by1fd.bay1.hotmail.msn.com

Is there a way to access Hotmail or Yahoo email with Outlook or any other mail prog POP style, instead of the special "Hotmail" way that Outlook reads the messages? Specifically, I want to download the messages to my normal Inbox and have my message filters move certain specified messages automatically to the proper subfolder; Outlook's Hotmail support won't let you do that (it just downloads all messages into the"Hotmail" folder and you have to move each one manually). Is there a way to get it to cooperate? (Alternatively, does anyone know a different good, reputable free POP email service that I could use?) Thanks!

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running. Ad-Aware? SE Personal Edition
*Note* For Ad-AwareSE also install the VX2 Addon Cleaner To run this tool once Adaware is updated click on Add-ons in the lefthand column. Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK" , then, if something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given. Click "Close", and exit Ad-Aware.
Spybot Search & Destroy
CWShredder

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
** click on "Free use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner Click Scan your PC & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
Click Scan Now
Enter your e-mail address & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.

Is there a way to download multiple attachments in Hotmail? After a recent birthday party my daughter sent me an email with about 50 photos and it would take a week to download one at a time.

With Yahoo mail there is a way to do it but it never seems to work. You get a message that there is a temporary problem that should be resolved i 10 minutes but so far it's never worked.

That's a lot of pictures, I'm not surprised you're having problems. You don't have to do them one at a time though either. If you zip them together in one file and use a service like You Send It http://www.yousendit.com/ you can send rather large files, no problem.
