I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello maaz, I do believe a GTX 460 would fit inside of the case, but it would be a tight fit, also, you'd need to upgrade your PSU to handle the new GPU.

I have tried severally in vain to reinstall the xp. What could be the problem, the monitor or the cpu? and if it is cpu, is it a hardware problem and what could be done to remedy it

A:xp cant install in dell optiplex gx 280

Rule out graphics or other problems by running an operating system from a usb or cd. My favourite is Linux Mint which you can download from here.

Download - Linux Mint

Burn the .iso to a disc and boot from it. If it boots ok then the hardware is fine then it's a software issue. If that's the case try and get another installation disk from a friend or wherever and try that.

If the CD with Linux Mint on it can't load then you have a graphics fault perhaps caused by the power fluctuations.

I think this model has integrated graphics but also has space for a pci-express graphics card. So if you can get hold of one of those you could try that..

I've been salivating at the idea on installing W 8-64 Pro on a Dell Optiplex 755 at work. But a sudden reality check came over me & I realize Windows 8 doesn't necessarily work on older machines. The Dell is a Vista era machine. So maybe W 7-64 Pro would be a better choice?

Obviously I should call Dell. But I am hoping someone on these forums might have some experience with the machine in question.

A Google search returned a lot of questions about installing Windows 7 which made me realize W 7 must had been a challenge 3 years ago.

A:Can I install a GTX 1050ti Low Profile in Dell Optiplex 990 SFF?

I did a quick search on google and it technically should work as long as it doesn't require an external power connector.  While most cards require a minimum of 300w PSU, the graphics card will only draw 75w max from the PCIe bus.  You will have to also factor in that you have a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot and the card is a PCIe 3.0, so while it is backwards compatible you will not get full performance from the card. Also there have been several reported issues with some graphics cards requiring UEFI bios and not being compatible or being glitchy with standard BIOS>

There is currently nothing in add/remove programs by the way.

A:Dell Optiplex Drivers wont install

What did you use to reinstall XP? If you know someone who has a Dell computer, perhaps they have the cd with the necessary drivers on it for you to use. Or contact Dell and see if you can get the cd's for your particular model of computer. their cd's include all the necessary drivers, at least that has been my experience.

A:[SOLVED] Cannot install XP on DELL Optiplex GX260

Hi Brian and welcome to TSF !

What's the service tag of the computer ? It'll be written on some sticker on the case.

Replace the IDE cable, make sure you use an 80-wires one and hook it on the primary IDE controller if there are 2 IDE controllers on the motherboard. Hook the Hard drive as master (check the jumper configuration, refer to the sticker that's on the drive) on the end of the IDE cable and the CD-rom as slave on the middle connector of the same cable. Unhook all other drives, pci cards and devices that are not needed to boot, you can still install them later. Use the onboard video and leave only one memory stick in the DIMM1 slot.

What's the brand and model of the power supply ? Have you tried a new power supply ? Dell computers usually come with the bare minimum PSU, if you added some hardware without upgrading the PSU it could have damaged the supply or some other parts. Make sure your computer doesn't use a proprietary PSU before trying another one. More on that once we have your service tag. In the mean time enter the BIOS at startup and report the temps, fans speeds and voltages from the hardware monitor.

Dell usually ships OS and drivers CD's, have you tried to contact them ?

I have a Dell Optiplex 380 SFF that I've been wanting to upgrade. The floppy bay is empty, and floppy diskettes are obsolete now. I want to install a card reader, (SD Card, Memory Stick, Flash, etc.)
Is there a way to install one in the floppy bay?

A:(Dell Optiplex 380) Is it possible to install a card reader?

The bigger question is whether there's a connector on the motherboard where you can connect an internal card reader.  Most card readers use an (internal) USB connector but I don't see a USB header on the motherboard diagram for the 380 SFF.

Would you  be better off just getting an external, portable  USB card reader? They're not expensive.

The culprit seems to be the hardware acceleration enabled in the Intel HD driver. But, I have yet to find a way to disable it universally across the Windows 10 operating system.
For Office software =* Start any Office program* On the File tab, click Options* In the Options dialog box, click Advanced* In the list of available options, add a check to, "Disable hardware graphics acceleration"* Click OK
For all other software, you will need to check into their specific settings.

When the PC starts up, the dell loading screen begins. Normally this takes around a few seconds but this time it didn't end. We've tried all the diagnostic tests and they all came back fine. Also tried disconnecting all external cables (ie headphones, ethernet etc). Powered on and off multiple times and no change.
By the way, I don't know if this is related or not, but last night before the issue occurred, I was randomly logged out. Once it logged me back in, everything was closed and there was a small square of like TV static towards the bottom right corner. I restarted and it fixed the issue there but I don't know.
Thanks in advance, Sean

A:Dell Optiplex 745 - Windows XP Pro 32-bit Dell System direct issue.

The older versions of Dell System Detect are security risks - if you're running an antivirus program, it may be flagging and intercepting the program.  At any rate, you should NOT be using Windows XP online at this point, as it has seen no security updates in almost two years - you really need to upgrade to a supported version of Windows (at this point, that's a minimum of Windows 7).

Hello. I am new to this forum so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. I was wondering if I could have some help with Floppy drives on a dell Optiplex 466/l from 1994. I am looking at front-mounted 3.0 USB panels that install in the unused floppy drive panel.

These 780s are the desktop minitower version.

Immediately underneath the DVD tray is what appears to be a spot for possibly a second DVD device.
{which begets a secondary question: can I add and simultaneously use a second DVD burner, or maybe even BluRay ? }

Immediately beneath that and offset to the right is a loose plastic filler panel that measures 3-7/8" X 15/16"; I am assuming that this is where the floppy drive would reside.

My question is: on this particular model, do I need the 5.25" to 3.5" adapter bracket to mount one of these :

Has anyone encountered problems with hard drives failing in 790's? Had loads of these go in the last few weeks. And conveniently just a few weeks after the 3 year warranty had expired. Slap a new hard drive in and re-image and they're back up and running again. But a colleague said one of them was the second time in 3 months that a hard drive had to be replaced.
Always this model. We have older Dells, HP's, etc, which rarely fail.

A coworker's Dell Optiplex 520 Desktop is reporting a failing hard drive. SMART is showing only 1 remaining available reallocation sector. The HDD is a Hitachi HDS725050KLA360 500GB SATA model. Question is about a Dell 980 Optiplex computer running Windows 7 Pro.
The C drive has failed. All I want to know is :
- The bus speed for the SATA drive in the Dell service manual says 1.5gb and 3.0 gb/s
- I purchased a Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 rpt 64mb cache SATA 6.0Gb/s internal drive.

What problems would I experience if I install this WD drive into the Dell?
What needs to be done to enable a 6.0Gb/s drive to work with a computer having a bus speed of 3.0Gb/s?

A:Replacing C drive in Dell Optiplex 980, bus speed question

You won't notice any speed issues using a 7200 rpm HDD on a SATA II (3 Gbps) port. Now, if you would get an SSD, you would see lower than advertised speeds - as an SSD nowadays is faster than SATA II.

I have tried changing the pin settings on the drive and so on. Tried boot order in different orders and so on. If I put the old hard drive back in, it will boot just fine, the only problem is that hard drive keeps saying it is going to fail. It's a Maxtor. The one hard drive I'm trying to install is the green 1 Tb western Digital Green Power. I have built several computers and installed a many operating systems and have never ran into this problem. It did belong to a business I bought it from. Is it possible it has some pin settings on the board for like maybe raid or something I'm missing? I'm at a loss. I have no external usb's plugged in except for a mouse and standard keyboard. No extra cards are installed at this time. Everything is standard across the board as far as I know. I have also tried cloning the Hard Drive with Bios set at Raid AutoDetect / ATA and it will not boot. Like I said though I can put the old hard drive in and it boots just fine with windows 7 ultimate 32 bit. Can anyone give me some advice please.

A:Problems Cloning Hard Drive On A Dell 755 Optiplex Dt

Sounds to me like your boot files are on the small hard drive and the rest of Windows is on the large drive. So both drives are needed.

I'm guessing you had both drives connected when you installed to the large drive?

If I'm right, that would not have happened if you had disconnected the small drive before installing to the large drive.

A screen shot of Windows Disk Management might tell us more.
You say "loaded" and you also say "cloning", so it's not really clear what you did.

I'm planning to install a new 2.5'' SSD in my Dell Optiplex 790 (Mini-Tower). Unfortunately, the original hard drive bracket (3.5''?) has been lost.
As the number of (Dell) hard drive brackets is quite overwhelming me, I'd greatly appreciate any help with finding the fitting bracket.

HI Tech guys,

I have a Dell Optiplex 170L with Windows XP, 1 GB of ram. I have tried Control / F11 but it does'nt work to get to the "restore" section. I do want to wipe the computer clean. I was lucky to be able to make a HD backup but the operating system is so screwed up that most programs I try to start, it goes "cant run - run32.dll" or something like that. I tried a restore from Accessories/System/Restore and its the same problem - no run32.dll comes up.

I don't want to buy restore CD-ROMs for various websites, which I understand are still available. I just want to restore the computer from the D: partition.

So what other commands are available for a restore from a partition?

Is there a way to make restore disks even though the OS is not working properly?
(it does have a cd-rw)

I am searching for an internal hard drive for Dell Optiplex GX110. Can I use any hard drive or do I need to buy a Dell specific one? Also does it have to be specifically for that year and model of computer?

This machine is not connected to a domain. It is in a homeoffice workgroup with full local admin rights. The feature updates 1607 and 1703 will not install during Windows Update. They fail constantly. I tried downloading the standalone installers for them but they fail as well stating that they are "not applicable to this computer". I even downloaded the standalone installer for creator update 1709, which had not yet shown up in the customers Windows Update just see if it would work and it failed with the same message as well. I've uninstalled the antivirus and tried the Windows Update reset procedures outlined on Microsoft support help article 971058 but same issue. Before resorting to reinstalling Windows I was hoping maybe someone here could shed some light on the situation. As a sidenote, all other Windows updates work fine. Its just those 3 that fail.I know this is primarily a hardware forum but I posted here to confirm a claim from a tech who responded to this question when I posted it on Reddit claiming these creator updates were not compatible with these Dells which makes no sense to me.
Thanks in advance,

A:Dell Optiplex 3040 with Win10 Pro - Creator Update 1607 and 1703 will not install

A general comment.  The Windows version you have may be an issue.  Its not that its not compatible with Dell, its that some updates will not install on Enterprise versions as they leave it up to the corporate IT department on when/if they want to implement the updates on corporate systems.
Considering you have an OptiPlex (one of Dell's business system lines) this may be the case.

Hi Gang
I have an older Optiplex 790 (which stands straight up - not on its side). I'm looking to find out which sata port is the correct port for the SYSTEM Drive, (not the 2nd storage drive port). Sorry I removed both drives, (one system drive and 2nd storage drive) for transport, (I moved). Now I'm getting the system back together. BTW one of the sata cables has a piece of 'OEM Blue Tape' tagged to one end.
Thanx for your help!

One of the SATA ports will have a blue connector on the mainboard.  That's the first SATA channel, usually used for the boot drive.

Gotta Dell Dimension 3000 here that can install and use external USB HD's but cannot find software/driver for any USB flash drives over 512MB... Nor can it recognize an 8gig iPod Nano. I have updated the Chipset via dell.com but still having no luck.

any assistance would be much appreciated

--- After many times of uninstalling and reinstalling what was found on the flash drives... FINALLY they stuck and I am able to open and use 3+ flash drives xD HOWEVER... The 8gig iPod Nano still will not reconginze in iTunes, so I uninstalled/reinstalled the driver and it seems to have no problem finding the driver but after it reinstalls I get Error 42 in the add new hardware window. I looked up the error via windows.com and found that there is already drivers/software installed for this device and there is a conflict between the old and new installation of it. Windows said to just Restart my machine and it should fix the issue... well... it hasn't. ALSO since the 2nd restart of this machine the 'add new hardware' box appears for the flash drives and the iPod now... I can still use the flash drives flawlessly but they still need more software to install but cannot find it... This is very odd >.< I guess I'm in need of advice on how to maybe fix Error 42 of the add new hardware box.

---- Still havent quite got this Error 42 figured out, but I did recive a blue screen with error - STOP: 0x0000008E and it had MxInsMon.sys in the erro... Read more
