Q: Solved: Connectiong issues, and port forwading issues for battle net

hey! so right now all works fine but for some reason i can't connect to battle.net anymore after changing the port range on my D-link, DI- 604 router from 6112 to 6112-6119. i've been trying to figure out how to host for warcraft 3, but it all comes down to the availability of ports and what not to open for it. and it just doesn't work. So now from not being able to host games i cant even log on to battle.net. I'm running on Windows XP, my router is D-Link DI-604. the error that comes up when i try connecting to battle.net through Warcraft 3 Frozen throne is, saying its an invalid realm or it may i have to connect to the internet from my modem before connecting to battle.net. which makes no sense since clearly writing this i have internet . Please help thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Sounds like either you have a software firewall blocking or else your modem is actually a modem/router combination. What is its brand and model?

Hello, I am an IT Technician for an electric cooperative. I am having a very odd issue that I can not seem to resolve and I am in need of assistance.

We have 4 Dell Latitude notebooks all running XP and we also have some very high end GPS units made by Trimble that we are going to be using to stake out points on a map. Whenever I connection through bluetooth with the GPS I am able to pair but the GPS control software never recognizes it when I chose the COM port assigned to it. Whenever I connect it directly through a cable(serial to usb) it never detects it either.

However this is the odd part, when I test this on my desktop I am able to connect just fine with the exact same method.

Any ideas?

I run the IT for a medium sized Mechanical and Controls Contractor. Recently several computers from our Service Department seem to be having communication issues, I will try to explain them as best I can.

Our Service Department works on all kinds of HVAC systems from all kinds of companies, some which have their own proprietary diagnostic software (specifically Trane and McQuay). They also diagnose problems on all kinds of control systems (Siemens, Honeywell, Johnson, ect) but mostly Automated Logic. That being said, they have a lot of different programs on their laptops. All of the Laptops are using Windows XP and, if not fully updated at the time they have me look at it, I make sure they get all the critical updates (except IE8), yet they seem to continue to have problems.

The Problem:
Recently I have had 4 of the Service Department laptops that have stopped communicating over the COM ports (they use a special USB cable to connect from the laptop to the system control modules). All other USB devices (thumb drives, Mobile Broadband Cards, ect) seem to work fine. the COM ports show up, and can even be reassigned, but no communication happens. I have spoken to Dell, as they are all Dell Laptops, and they are at a loss.

My Thoughts:
I had originally thought that it was a conflict between all of the different programs that they had on the computer as they all used COM ports and different cables to connect to different devices, and at one time I had an error that t... Read more

Hi there,

I was going thro' some of the postings on this forum as I'm currently faced with issues around port forwarding.

My intent is to have the ability of viewing my Axis207W over the internet.

Here's my setup -

1. WRT54GL running DD-WRT v24-sp2 connected to a Scientific-Atlanta modem.

2. Axis207W camera configured as follows for both ethernet and wireless connections to the camera -
Static IP -
Subnet Mask -
Default router (gateway) -
http port: 80
https port: 443
rtsp port: 554

3. Both the camera and the router are accessible wirelessly over the LAN

4. On the port forwarding tab of the router interface, I mapped port 80 of (camera) to port 90 (I've tried 9000 as well)

5. I pulled up the WAN IP (external IP) and entered http://xx.xx.xx.xx:90 on the address bar. Ended up getting 'IE cannot display the webpage'

6. Just to make sure that the issue had nothing to do with the camera, I forwarded port 80 of the Linksys router itself and mapped it to port 80 ( and entered

http://xx.xx.xx.xx:80 (external IP) to no avail (tried 8080 as well)

7. Went to http://www.t1shopper.com/tools/scan.php4 and it says that xx.xx.xx.xx isn't responding on port 80 (or 90)

8. I tried accessing the modem directly at (IE8) only to get the foll -

Hi. My first time posting here, and I hope I did it in the right spot. If not, please cut me some slack...I actually did spend a significant amount of time looking for the relevant place.

So, basically, using Outlook Express with a Road Runner cable modem, linksys router...need to check email from third-party webmail server for my website. spent hours on the phone with road runner tech support because I was getting the following:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.thewelldressedcookie.com', Server: 'smtp-server.nyc.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

(don't laugh at my website's name!)

Anyway, so after much ado we did the cmd of netsh winsock reset, and yay, it worked...for like 20 minutes. So, I did the reset again, rebooted and it worked again, but then stops. If I reboot without resetting it first it doesn't work. So, there must be something I'm missing here..and if anyone knows what it is, that would be very helpful. I'm using eset's NOD32 anti-virus and they swear it's not their software. I'm going crazy over all this because I know how to do stuff, but I"m not always certain what it all means. So, someone direct, and I will follow....thank you!

I have an ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX motherboard which has SATA 2 and SATA 3 ports. I've tried fiddling around with BIOS options and my hard drive is recognized by the motherboard as seen in this picture:
The computer will boot to the screen where I can select to boot into safe mode or normal boot. Regardless of which option I select, the computer will restart right after, as seen in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2IKg4C_UYE

I've tried booting the hard drive with another board and everything works fine (hard drive isn't the problem). I've also tried booting the entire system using another PSU and I get the same result as in the video linked above. I've come to the conclusion that it's the motherboard that's causing the problem and that I should RMA it. What is the community's opinion?

So, I've got two separate, but somewhat related issues. One has been going on for a year and still hasn't been resolved (posted about it before) but I have some updated info, the other one is new.
AsHere I go ....

1. Can't Connect to the Internet
I all of a sudden could not connect to the internet. As my wireless isn't working currently, I used a wired connection. I am using that wired connection right now on my work computer that I am messaging from, so I know it isn't a modem/router issue. I have removed all the anti-spyware that I had and only installed Avast!, I re-installed all the drivers, and I contacted my internet provider. In troubleshooting with the internet provider, we tested the ping for www.google.com, which didn't work, but when we pinged the numerical ip address, it did. The same thing happened when I opened my browser. The representative said that the IP address was not being resolved by the DNS (is that correct)??? Anyways, that's where I am at - how do I resolve it so that the IP address is resolved?

2. First, for some extra background, please see the thread from a year ago that I had posted:

Okay, About three months ago, I got hacked HARD...permissions were changed, administrator rights were removed from my administrator accounts, etc. i was flabbergasted. THe iactually didn't bother me though until I ran a MBAM scan and found 133 viruses and spyware instances on my drive (NOT including tracking cookies!). I cleaned and recleaned, using MBAM, SuperantiSpyware, Avira, running each one in safe mode first, then loading into my normal account and running them, and finally erasing my user account and creating a new one. But even after the new user account was created with Administrator privileges, I still routinely received virus and Malware threat warnign flags from MBAM and Avira. Eventually, Avira and MBAM were disabled and Avira was "deleted" (Windows will not uninstall because the setup.exe file has been 'Changed" and won't reinstall it because I don't have "Administrator privileges" on my Administrator accounts!) even though at startup I receive an error message saying that Avira has been corrupted. The most telling issue is that antivirus and spyware/Malware scans come up clean on Safe mode scans, but using my normal account, the machine reboots. Using Superantispyware I notice that it's always during the memory test that this occurs (and in Safe Mode, it passes through this section with no issue). None of my antivirus programs will download updates, even ones I start manually, and although I have no problem acc... Read more

On my laptop which is now about 6 years old I have been experiencing a few issues. First as the laptop is so old it has seen its fair amount of system restores but one thing I have been noticing is that my hard drive space is disappearing. The laptop started with 160gb (shows how old it is) split 80gb between the different partitions but now it only has 69.5gb per partition, so does anyone have any clue how to restore the space?

The second problem I am having is with installing my printers, I have successfully installed two wireless printers on my desktop pc but when it comes to connecting to the printer I must first setup a temporary link with a usb to one of the printers but when I connect them together it does not pick it up. But if I plug other devices in then run fine, anyone got any ideas?

The last issue I am having seems to be some sort of autorun problem, for example when I insert a install disc the autorun box pops up but does not display the install and I only have the option the view all of the files so I have to find the setup application within the disc myself. Any ideas?

I know I am asking about a lot of issues but any help is appreciated.

Hello all,

Firstly, I'm new to the forum and would like to say Hi.

Anyway, here's the question:

The other day, this happened when my Late '08 Unibody attempted going to sleep:

-My USB HUB (Powered) simply turned off, (Which I'm assuming is normal when the laptop goes to sleep, but this time it won't turn back on, not even on other computers (tried PS3, PCs and Macs.)

-Screen went black, yet fans kept going and it was impossible to force turn off, I had to actually remove the battery and unplug it, after an hour for it to do so.

This is what happens now:

-My USB hub won't work.
-Keyboard works on one USB port but not the other.
-External HDDs stopped working.

This is strange however because some hardware seems to work fine on both USB ports.

I have tried to run an AHT but seeing as I'm using an external DVD drive (Internal one never worked, since day one.) But, it's no mystery by now that it's impossible to do so unless it's from the internal one.

I have reset PRAM and so on, no effect either.

What could this be? Is it time to replace it with a new laptop? I've considered trying a new USB hub and reconnecting everything as before, but I'm not willing to spend money if I'm not sure that it's going to work.

Thanks in advance.

One of my USB ports does not function properly. It will recognize devices and charge them when plugged in, but I cannot use the device's function on my computer. For example: If I plug in my PS4 controller, it will charge the controller, but no games I play will recognize it. Or if I plug in my Keyboard, the lights will come on, but it won't work properly. I know it's the USB itself, and it's the only USB with issues of the 6 on my computer. It's also a high speed port as well, in case that's important.

I have a Compaq Presario. We've always had problems with this thing, it crashed within the first week we even got it. Nonetheless, for about a year my USB ports haven't worked. First the front ones stopped working, then the back ones later weren't picking up anything. I tried anything I could find. I set it back to a different date, deleted and reinstalled the ports, completely reinstalled Windows XP, and got a device to check the drivers and whatnot. Nothing seemed to work, until yesterday everything was working really smoothly. Usually my whole computer freezes and I can't do anything. So, I stuck something in the USB port in the front and it actually picked it up, but it said something was wrong with the device. Then I put it in the back ports and it worked.

So today I decided that I'd reinstall my labtec webcam CD so I could use it. It required I should restart it. When I did, my computer wasnt connecting to the cable box. I restarted it again and the box. So on, so fourth until it eventually worked. Now my ports aren't picking up anything AGAIN. I have no clue in what to do. Any ideas? Should I just kill it? LOL.
But get this. My speakers plug into the USB as well, and if I don't plug it in, my speakers don't work. Is it just getting power out of it?

Hi. I've got a question about com ports. I am running win 98 and I would like to know how many com ports I should have showing. When I look in the device manager I am seeing com1 and com5. The internal modem does not work. If anyone can shed a little light on the situation, I would very much appreciate it.

Any help would be great!

Using http://canyouseeme.org/ to test port gives: Connection refused

PSPS: I port forward many things before so I got the hang how to do normal port forwards!

A:Port issues and such!

I think your port forward does work.

Why? Because getting a "connection refused" message is different from a simple timeout due to not receiving any response at all. It means your computer is answering the port check by actively refusing it. Are you running your game while you're doing the port check?

It might be an issue with the UDP forward, since UDP is a one-way protocol that doesn't rely on acknowledgement packets like TCP does...so I'm not sure how you could even test an UDP port forwarding. Which firewall did you disable, the one in Windows or the one in your router? Or both?

Hi Guys

So, i'm having a little trouble with port forwarding. It appears that no matter what port i forward, no traffic can come in via that port.. Specifically, i'm trying to get port 3389 opened, which as you probably know, is the Remote Desktop Port.
I've already confirmed that traffic is getting to the router (Netgear WNR2000v2), as when Remote Management is enabled, which utilizes port 8080, browsers on an external network can access the router. General browsing and downloading is also working perfectly.
TalkTalk support were no help of course, effectively telling me that because the internet and telephone is working, they can't help me.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated!

You'll have to be more specific about what trouble you're having. Otherwise, about all we can advise is the generic: forward port 3389 to the desired computer.

We have several users with this issue, and I have seen plenty of references to this issue, but no specific resolution as of yet. Here’s what we know so far:

Reports of since (patch) Tuesday of not being able to get out on port 80; 443 seems to work just fine.

At least one machine had no MS patches on Tuesday.

We have machines with the issue that were patched (Tuesday) and ones that were not.

Only Dell 620's laptops running Windows XP seem to have been affected (so far).

We had Cisco VPN error messages, since Juniper VPN upgrade that went away when we uninstalled – We are investigating this as a coincidence, or possible sonic firewall issues which should have been removed with the install?

Machines will boot into safe mode, and after several scans with malwarebytes, all the Trojans are removed.
Spybot found nothing on two separate safe mode scans.
MacAfee finds nothing.
You can browse happily all day long in safe mode, so something is loading during normal mode boot.

Netstat produces some very odd results in normal mode, i.e. lots of blank tcp and udp entries in listening mode. Fine in safe mode

Reinstalled the IP stack on both machines.

Fixed Cisco VPN clash on both machines apparent since previous Sunday’s Juniper updates, but do not believe this is related.

Logs from my scans available, included are HJT logs from two machines.

Hey guys long time no see.....

Well the issue i am having is this..... I use wondows 2000 pro on my network at home, all working fine and dandy since i stopped dual booting with Windows "did ya miss" Me, now i have recently bought a 3rd poota for the network and want to use it to host a medal of honour dedicated server, and if possible a UT2003 ded server too, obviously not at the same time!!

I have a DSl line which should be good for host an 8 person game but i use Internet Connection Sharing on it since i dont ahve a router

However i cannot get the game to show on any of the browsers for the games, and i have been told that its a port issue, and i have tried to open the relevant ports.....but with no success

I read on one of the threads on here that you simply add the port numbers into the settings tab , btu i'm not sure if it an application or a service.... and i dont know if i have done it right, i've tried to look for the server on Gamespy and All Seeing Eye, but i cant see it which leads me to believe that it isnt working correctly.... although would i be able to see it if it were on my LAN??

ANyways, i'm hoping that someone here would be able to shed some light on the situation, mainly cos i'm a little confused and dont want to have to go and buy a router to sort this out.....

Thanks in advance guys

So, I've been using a vpn for the last 3 days, and I just go banned (twice). The reason : The admin of the vpn website told me than a portscann has been active on my computer.
So when he first told me that I used my antimalvare: spybot and my antivirus : avg 2016, to check if everything was ok. The scan results showed me that I had 2 infections, I removed them and I asked the admin of the vpn webiste to reactivate my account, which they did.
And Yesterday same thing, I got banned (again) from the vpn for the same reason. Which is bringin me here !
I need some help guys !

hi i have a d link dir 628, and im trying to forward some ports (bit torrent, limewire, and my ps3). so i created a static ip ( i used these two guides: http://forum.portforward.com/YaBB.cgi?board=Knowledge;action=display;num=1116577357 and http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm) but the ports are still blocked. by the way i used the PFportchecker to check if the port is open.

i recently downloaded a program for my cell phone called BitPim. It allows you to transfer data to your computer to for easy editing. ex: contacts, calendar, etc...

but for some reason, when it searches to find my phone, it is unsuccessful. Then when i try to manually locate my phone, it says no Comm or Serial Ports were found. I am unsure how to deal with this.

I tried temporarily disabling my Norton Internet Security and i also tried to use the program in Windows Safe Mode.

I found out that it is an issue with my computer and not the program because i installed another similar program (MOBILedit!) and had the same problem.

someone please help.

Well kinda.. I have a few ports forwarded for WCIII and my PS3, but for some reason now that i have set up the static IP and forwarded those ports my internet disconnects random;y every few hours and the only way to get it back is a power cycle.

Its not a huge deal its just irritating.

Anyone ever hear of anything like this?

PS - Linksys WRT54GS

Also kinda off topic, but is it worth it to get the tomato firmware for it?

Moderators/Administrators - Not sure if this is where I need to be posting - please place in appropriate forum if necessary.

I had to purchase a new computer this weekend. The new system didn't have the appropriate sound card that I needed for my speakers that I kept from my old system and a foot pedal that I use for work that plugs into a game port so the techies at the place where I bought it installed the card from my old system into my new system. The sound is working fine but my foot pedal is no longer working (I plugged a backup foot pedal into the game port and that one didn't work either).

New system - Windows XP; old system - Windows ME.

Sound card: SoundBlaster Live!

Are there drivers or updates that I need to be looking for? Also of note, the software that originally came with the sound card is not compatable with the WXP.

Any idea what I need to do?

I followed the instructions on port forwarding, but after supposedly forwarding the port, it tells me that the port is closed on my IP, even though I clearly forwarded it.

As you can see, I forwarded the port in my router settings, and I made sure that the IP is right(I turned off DHCP and forced my computer to connect to that address). Unfortunately, when I look at a port checker tool, it still tells me the port is closed.

I also noticed that whenever I try to connect to a server via, it won't let me, which leads me to believe that it's possibly something to do with my computer. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. This was working before I had to format my hard drive.

Hey folks,

I play World of Warcraft and I'm having a problem when downloading the patches. It keeps telling me I'm behind a firewall or the tracker is down, so the downloads are extremely long. This never used to be a problem.
Did M$ put out a new patch/update that blocks this traffic? I went to www.portforward.com and followed all the instructions for the netgear WGR614v6 (I had done this a while ago and all the proper settings are in there). I port forwarded my router before and it was setup correctly and working fine.

All of a sudden, I'm having these problems. Any one got an idea?

PS, my regular internet DL's run between 50kb/s up to 350kb/s depending on the server.

I have WinXP with SP2 (not pirated!!!) and don't have the firewall on. I never have run it and I've never had a problem (virus, etc).

It's not a hardware problem, its gotta be software, but I don't know whats causing it.

Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to RDP into a server, and it works if I am on the local LAN, but I can't do it from the outside.

configuration is: Westell 327W DSL modem with port 3389 forwarded to a Linksys VOIP RTP300 router, where the same port (3389) is forwarded to a Linksys WRT54GL, which forwards the 3389 port to the server.

Each router is on a different subnet.

since all PC's/servers are behind the Linksys WRT54GL, would it be safe to turn off the firewalls on the DSL modem and the VOIP router? I have also tried allowing the DSL modem to forward ALL traffic to the VOIP router, but still get the same results.

So I was wondering if anyone could help me out here. The new network I'm set up on uses a DSL modem/router, that plugs into a switch, which is what I plug into. But because I'm not plugged directly into the router I can't seem to DMZ, or port forward anything. Well okay I can do it, but it seems to have no effect. This is conflicted numerous times with games that I've tried to play with friends to where I can't host, in fact I sometimes can't even join their games either.

The router is a ZyXEL PK5000Z

And the switch is a D-Link DSS-16+

What do I need to do to be able to DMZ or port forward my computer while still going through the switch? Any and all help would be appreciated.

So to begin with, i use a Thomson TG784 router, i know how to port forward and have done so before (Not with this router *Successfully*), however this is becoming a pain. i am trying to open ports for a game that requires it to hold a decent connection to other players. after forwarding ports on my router, assigning it to PC, disabling router firewall and enabling it (didn't make a difference), i went into windows firewall and opened all ports for said application, however, the game, along with multiple testing sites have told me the ports are closed even after that, specifically that they time out upon trying to connect. Also, i cannot use my uPnP as it is broken and does the opposite of its purpose, on certain games, it actually disconnects every 5-10 minutes. also, my avira and any other antivirus/security software doesn't have web safety enabled, and so isn't blocking ports. so someone feel free to start quizzing me on whats up, because this is going on like 5 hours of me trying to port forward (if not much more)

I'm showing two issues in "Device Manager" (Other Devices)
1. "PCI Serial Port"
2. "Pci Simple Communications"
Don't know whether this is a Bios setting issue or driver issue!
I did make changes to the bios during a fresh install of Win 7, and of course, I didn't write down the original settings!
Everything seems to function alright, but I would like to get the issue notice cleaned up.

Thanks for any help here!

I am using a program that I would like to use a foot pedal with...The program setup instructions tell me to "Connect the footpedal as a 2 button/2 axis joystick under Control Panel\Gaming Options."

When I try to do this, a "Missing Gameport or Gameport Drivers!" error box pops up saying "Your Gameport or Gameport drivers are not properly configured. Please consult the Device Manager."

Looking at the Device Manager, there is no Gameport installed. I have found that I [probably] need the "Standard Game Port," however I cannot figure out where to find the driver file.

I know that the foot pedal works on this computer. I can get it working in the two other programs that I use, it's just this one progam that requires it be in the "Gaming Options." I am totally willing (and able) to exicute some sort of hack-around if you have a way.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Thank you.

I've now been able to install the foot the foot-pedal as a 2 button/2 axis joystick...Windows was able to actually recognize it as such and do it for me after disabling COM1.

However, now it tells me that the "joystick" is not connected...despite the fact that it will reinstall it automagically if I uninstall it. How can I make the computer recognize that the foot-pedal is connected?

Thank you!

I'm having issues with port forwarding. I've tried port forwarding, dmz, and everything else the net has told me.

I have a Belkin F5D8236-4 That I have my computer connected to via ethernet cable and I use it for wireless routing. That's connected to a D-Link DES-1105 which has an ethernet cable running to an antenna connecting to a local ISP.

I wanted to ditch the DES-1105 but the Cisco ATA-186 that we use for the phone lines doesn't work without it.

I've tried every local IP adress from to trying to find some way of going into DMZ or port forwarding, but other than the belkin interface, which doesn't work, I've found nothing.

There's almost no information on the D-Link as it doesn't seem to be a router. It also has no interface that I can find from a local IP address.

Anybody have any ideas?

A:Port Forwarding Issues

You are correct; the D-Link DES-1105 is not a router. It is a simple 5 port Ethernet switch that does not have any kind of user settings.

Do the Cisco ATA-186 and the WAN port of the Belkin F5D8236-4 router currently both plug into the DES-1105?

If so, are you trying to move the Ethernet connection of the ATA-186 from the DES-1105 to a LAN port on the F5D8236-4?

If so, did you try power cycling the ATA-186 after moving the connection?

I am using the Actiontec MI424WR router that comes with Verizon FiOS. Basically it's that router with a V2 interface. There have been many noted problems with this router, such as an unbearably small NAT table, making torrents already very annoying. What's worse is that after following all the instructions on http://www.portforward.com/, the uTorrent port checker reports that the port is NOT being forwarded properly. The only way I can get it to forward is by setting DMZ host to the static IP address of my computer, and that only works with my Windows XP computer. On my Windows 7 Beta, setting its static IP of to DMZ host does absolutely nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am having major issues with port forwarding in Windows 7 Ultimate. I have opened the port in the following:
Windows firewall- Inbound& Outbound rule set to open port
Comodo Firewall- Opened port through firewall for in/out TCP&UDP
Router- Forwarded port to computer, settings saved and set.

I have opened the port in every place and it is forwarded through the router, yet when I check via canyouseeme.org it says the connection times out. This is very problematic and I cannot figure it out. However I have never had any problems port forwarding on Windows XP. This is a very simple and quick task to achieve yet for some reason beyond me, I cannot forward my ports with Windows 7. Any one have idea? Very frustrating.
