Music Playing On Winamp Auto-Lowers When Other Sounds Play

Q: Music Playing On Winamp Auto-Lowers When Other Sounds Play

I listen to my music on Winamp, yet when I'm using any other program that plays some sound effect (for example, playing some online game on Google Chrome), every time the game makes a bit of a loud sound effect, for a second or so, the music lowers itself for that second, then goes back to its normal volume.

I'm assuming this is some default option that is auto-enabled in Windows 8, since Windows XP never used to do this.

What option do I need to disable so all programs playing sound will not interfere and lower other programs' volume down?

It other words, what option do I need to disable so all the sounds play at an exact same level at all times?

Thanks a bunch

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I was wondering if I could get my HJT log checked out. I was redirected from the WinAmp forums to come here. The problem is that I recently downloaded WinAmp, and that several music files of mine will not play, and instead skip over it until it plays a music file from a different artist. I'm assuming that it's malware that's causing these problems.

Anyways, thanks so much for your time and for helping me out.

My laptop started playing random sounds like commercials and music at weird times just two days ago. It also makes the sound of a mouse clicking in the background and will sometimes have the small window with the two option, "Restore last session" and "Go to homepage". This is quicky gone in less than a second. Finally, I noticed that if I'm browsing the web, even though the page is up it'll go into the background as though there is another window in front (but there isn't).

I use AVG free and a scan found nothing. I downloaded Malwarbytes and it found some things AVG missed but it didn't solve the problem. After some more searching I did a scan with ESETscan and this is what it came up with: Operating memory a variant of Win32/Miep.A trojan.

Hello all,

I have been looking for an answer to this for a few months. My issue seems to differ from the threads I pull up from a simple search.

I am having the random music (sounds like WOW music sometimes, and advertisements occasionally) that are playing at random times from my netbook.

Norton found nothing. I found nothing. No screens are open, no suspicious processes in the task manager. I felt frustrated and decided I would just reformat my netbook, and re-install XP. Which is what I did today.

However, after downloading MSN and Firefox... it started again. The songs that are playing actually sound a little different, but I'm sure it has something to do now with Windows Live Messenger or Firefox.

I have set the sound devices to no sound as well.. that has not solved the issue.

If anyone has an idea, or solution, please inform me. I am feeling at the end of my rope. Not even losing all my data to reformat my hardrive and re load windows has removed this... "curse". I've only had the new xp running two hours, and it has happened approx 6 times already (more than before)

Thanks for reading,

Elysia

okay I have ran SUPERantispyware, AVG Free, Antivirus.com online, CC & Malwarebytes.. And they all either say I have nothing wrong.. or that they fixed it.. But of course, they havent. One (I believe it is SUPERantispyware) said I have to download a program from another computer, then run it on mine.. Which I did, but it didnt fix it.

SO this is on my Sony Laptop. Running Windows 7.

If I turn my sound on, there is normally some sort of noise playing... Once it was Paula Deens show lol. Sometimes I cant figure out what it is.. it will just be music of some sort or random commercials. VERY annoying. I was even logged off last night. Sitting on the log on screen, and it was still playing. I turned off the wifi & at one point it did stop it.. But then after I tried it again, it still played. So I cant pinpoint if it is a Wifi thing or virus..

I think I have that redirect virus as well.. Sometimes I will click a link, or search for something, and it takes me to some other screen. But they dont seem to have the same names so it is hard for me to pinpoint what it is..

Besides all that, my laptop still gets the BSOD randomly, but I know that isnt a virus.. But it is something that happens..

Thanks for your help!

So I just bought a new laptop, toshiba satellite p755-s5390, and have been noticing some static crackles/ lag. When I play music (pandora) sometimes it randomly has a static spike and lags my mouse for 5-10 second periods, then goes away. This also occurs when I'm playing an online game (airmech). When it happens while playing, it lags my screen and shoots my ping up to 500-1000 when its normally around 75-100. I also hear the static while its lagging. I have tried re-installing my sound drivers but that didn't fix anything. I know its not my outlet because I have gone to different homes/hotels and its still there. Could it possibly be my Ipod? Thanks for helping!

I've tried MBAM (Malwarebytes) and Spybot - Search and Destroy, but to no avail.

I'd love any help I can get.

A pop up requesting permission to play a music file automatically slipped under my mouse pointer a split second before I hit the space bar to advance down the page.

It isn't a malicious file, nor spyware, however I would like to find out what componant was enabled to automatically permit the music file to play everytime I visit that specific Webpage.

What tool will allow me to trace the auto-play 'permission granted' componant on my machine so that it can be removed, reset, or disabled? Is there a monitor tool that can be launched right before I visit the page which will tell me what and where that componant is when the page with the embedded music file is loaded?

HijackThis! didn't find anything suspicious.

Sound from the on board ac97 on a Gigabyte motherboard running windows XP was alright until I was using Winamp to convert CD's to MP3's. Then the Chipmunks took over. The Winamp was delated and reinstalled with no change to the sound. It sounds the same whether using a CD in the CD player or running a file off the hard drive. It sounds like this whether I am using Winamp, Media Player or Real Player. There must be a setting somewhere that needs to be reset to the default. Any help would be appriciated.

Ok so I have a simple, but annoying problem. I have no Windows Sound Events like the login sound, the logout sound, and when the battery is low. Every other sound like playing music and running YouTube videos work fine. Even when I turn on my laptop I hear the whole computer startup sound, but I don't hear the login one. I don't understand the problem. I went into personilazation and went to Windows Sounds, but when I select one and click "Play" I don't hear anything. I tried the other Sound Themes and they don't work either. I ran the Fix It program for Audio, and it didn't find anything wrong.

Hi

I've just installed Winamp 5 and am also trying to use Amp Randomizer 2, but when I try to add my MP3 directory (it's on an external hard drive) and activate it, I get a little error message that says Winamp " can't find any music files"

Well, they're certainly there--all 2550 of them--and Winamp happily plays them in sequence, but I can't randomize them because the files aren't "found!"

Can anyone tell me how to help Winamp find them????

Thanks

A:Winamp Can't Find Music Files

1. Winamp > Ctrl+P (for Preferences)

2. General Preferences > Jump to File > Shell Options (you might have to expand the options tree by double clicking on Jump to File)

3. Checkmark "Add 'Enqueue & Play' to Winamp's associated file types", "Set 'Enqueue & Play' as the default action" and "Start Winamp playing if it is not already"

The files may not be compatible with Winamp. Check the help documents that came with Winamp to determine compatible files and troubleshoot your problem.

Hi all,

Winamp's being... temperamental, to say the least.
I have a music library of ~2000 songs which I want to get it to sync to my MP3 player. It recognizes that my player is connected to my PC just fine, but when I tell it to sync all 2000 songs in one shot the program freezes and crashes.
I really do NOT want to have to sit at my PC for hours and sync my music library 50 songs at a time. Is there a workaround for this problem or am I just going to have to bite the bullet?

Thanks,

-'Mage

EDIT: Mods, please delete this thread, I reposted it in "Misc. Software". Thanks.

Is still active Winamp auto-tag, or it ended with the development/support of this once great player? I was quite used to complement id3tags via this button in the File Info. Now it appears only the message "no match found". Makes it on all mp3 files, not just some, as before.
Or can recommend other similarly nice player for listening to old fashioned music fan? I tried AIMP, but somehow did not suit me. Or some id3tag manager who understood the Gracenote? If I'm not mistaken mp3Tag or Tag&Rename pull out infos from freedb.org?
thanks for advice
Peter

A:Winamp auto-tag feature works or not?

Mp3tag is the best one to use.

It downloads data from Amazon.com, Amazon.de, MusicBrainz and discogs. I mostly use Amazon.com, but occasionally I'll need to use MusicBrainz.

I got into auto/"smart" playlists; those which update according to certain criteria. I can handle them in Winamp and Windows Media Player (WMP). My "primary" music player is Winamp though.
I wanted to use them with my Creative Zen Vision:M. These are the two scenarios in which they would be useful:
-I update the library from the computer (add/delete songs to/from a playlist) and want the changes to reflect the next time I plug the Zen in.
-I update my Zen's library away from the computer (by changing the rating of a song), and the computer senses these changes and morphs the playlists on my Zen to reflect them.
The problem is that my darling Winamp can't really do this. The closest I've come is saving one of these auto-playlists ("Smart Views") in the comp's library as a solid Media Library playlist, which can go over to the Zen without transferring music or screwing up music already there. But If I try to move the same list over twice, it'll make a copy of the list. There's also the muss and fuss of saving all these lists in the first place. If there are ways around these problems, let me know.
There's another problem. Windows Media Player actually seems up to the task. It can sync a playlist (at least from the computer to the Zen) the way I want it, but right now the Zen isn't formatted for the WMP version of my Music Library. It's weird. It'll show all the ZVM's music and stuff, but I can&... Read more

I can't get winamp3 to play video, any ideas? The files are mpg so it shouldn't be a problem, I get audio but no video.

A:Winamp 3 Won't Play Video

Hiya

Do you have the latest version of DivX:

http://www.divx.com/divx/

Also, have you got it checked to play them:

Start winamp3, go to preferences, Media, and check the video types.

Ah, just read this in the forums:

When you say MPEG, do you mean a video with the MPG extension or an audio MPEG layer 3 with the MP3 extension ?

Winamp should play all MP3's without any problem !
As for MPG's you need to install a relevant plug-in from the Winamp Input Plug-ins site.

Though, if Winamp is already set as the default MPG player, you must already have such a plug-in ?!?!

Goto the Winamp Prefs -> File Types and scroll down the list to see if MPG is listed.

If you want to make Windows Media Player the default for MPG, un-hi-lite the entry in the Winamp Prefs and exit Winamp.
Open WMP and goto "View -> Options -> Formats" and place a checkmark next to Movie File [MPEG] to make WMP the default player.

Note that, if you have it enabled, you will have to disable the Winamp Agent first to achieve this goal.
[Winamp Prefs -> Agent -> Uncheck all 3 options]

I just bought a new set of Creative 7.1 speakers and installed. I set my Creative settings for 7.1 , but I can't get Winamp 5.1 to play 5.1. It will only play in 2.1 mode. I have set the Plug-ins/Output to SoundBlaster Live 24Bit. Don't know what else to do.

Also I have PowerCinema so I played StarWars III in full 7.1 sound no probs after setting Audio to 7.1.

What gives? Is it because SB Live 24 is set to 7.1 that winamp5.1 can't understand that? In the configure output page (Winamp): speaker set-up was listed as unknown. :suspiciou

TS Thomas was going to write a guide on winamp plug-ins but I don't see it, nor anything with my winamp search here that answered my question.

Thanks if anyone can help.

Hi guys

I recently reinstalled Windows XP Home on my laptop but have found that WM player and my trusty old WinAmp don't play properly.

DVD's don't play at all and avi files have sound but no video. My own movies from my digital camera still play perfectly, so there isn't a problem with my sound/video cards. After previous reinstallations of Windows XP I had no problems with either media player, but for some reason this time nothing works!

I have checked My Comp/DeviceManager an all are working properly - with no naughty red "x"'s.

I installed WMP 11 from the MS Updates page, and Win Amp is version 5.35, which has worked well before. This really has me stumped - I'd appreciate any comments.

My boyfriend installed VLC player on my machine and this plays everything fine - but I still want my own WMP11 and WinAmp to work. Any ideas?

Cheers

This seems like a long shot, but there are lots of loyal llama fans out there in the world so why not?

I use Winamp... wait wait, I really didn't mean to come off like this is an AA meeting.

Lets start here:

I finally upgraded to Win 8.1 last night. Should have done this two years ago.

I'm still at the point where I'm trying to get Win 8 to be Win 7. I just want to be comfortable on my OS. I've largely succeeded thus far. Changed the things I could, and sought the strength to accept the things I could not change. (Ok this is getting bad.)

Anyhow, I use Winamp and I just can't give it up. I use Enqueue settings so when I double click on a song in Explorer I don't want it to play immediately. I expect that Winamp will queue it and play it next.

That's how it works on Win 7, and the settings are still there. I checked the boxes that needed to be checked, and made reparations to Windows 8 when I wronged it. . .

Now I'm calling upon a higher power. Anyone out there?

A:Winamp wont Enqueue and Play

Am using v5.666, with 'default file action' ticked. Works here in 8.1.

I would like to completely disable auto run / auto play in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7, and I cannot find a way to do so. I've searched the web endlessly, and there are lots of suggestions, but nothing works. I have disabled every type of auto run / auto play I can find, but if Windows Media Player is open and I insert a flash drive, CD, or DVD, whatever I'm playing is interrupted by what was inserted even if it's not media. Just a plain, blank flash drive does this.

Has anyone else been able to figure this out?

I apologize if this has already been addressed. I honestly don't know what I'm doing. My Vista's not playing any of the music files on my computer or my iPod on any music player I use (iTunes, WinAmp, the Rhapsody that came with it), though it plays anything else that's online. Other sounds on the computer are also playing (MSN, AIM, system sounds). What it does exactly is, upon clicking any song in the media library, it shows intention to play it but then stays at 0:00, while recognizing the length of song, name of artist, etc. Did I miss something?

For some odd reason the Play All (Play Selection) doesn't work in the Music Tasks in My Music anymore. The other two (Shop and Copy to CD) work fine though. I can't recall installing anything that would have caused this.

When I click it it seems to do something since the hourglass shows up but it never plays the music. I use Winamp as my default player but I also have Windows Media Player 10. I even reset all my audio and video associations with this "%Systemroot%\INF\unregmp2.exe /SetWMPAsDefault"

I use Windows XP SP2 and I have a Sound Blaster Live with the latest drivers. Winamp is set as my default media player. If you need any more info, just ask.

Thanks

Sounds like a build up of heat, the most common cause of 'freezing' try running with the case side off and see if there is improvement, if there is you need to add more cooling, making sure your current fans are working properly and are clear of fluff and muck can improve cooling performance dramatically especially the CPU fan and heatsink.

I can set them up so they default open with another program such as Windows Media Player but the actual file type still says Winamp Media File.

I do use Winamp to play all my music and would like to keep doing so but i want to be able to put these files onto my ipod.

I realise there isn't such an extension as Winamp Media File but i don't know what type of file they are or how to find out.

I've just decided to switch from WMP to Winamp. But the problem with Winamp is that, when I insert a mp3 cd, it doesn't play. When I click on the drive from Winamp control panel, it only shows 1 track with the title "data track" and the total length of the disk. The same thing happens with other types of media files on cd. Sounds like it's a data CD with mp3's on it. Not an audio CD that winamp can read as a normal one.

I could be wrong though.
