Will these upgrades be eligible for my PC?

Q: Will these upgrades be eligible for my PC?

Hello, I'm Richie. Let's skip the introduction stuff and get straight to business! I've been planning an upgrade on my PC (GPU & PSU wise) Will it be able to run? These are the parts as listed: -Zotac Geforce GTX 1060 Mini 3GB (NewEgg Product Page) (Not SC'd) -EVGA 450W B1 Power Supply (Newegg Product Page) So just wondering if these will be eligible for my current build and that nothing will blow up? Thank you!-Richie

Preferred Solution: Will these upgrades be eligible for my PC?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Will these upgrades be eligible for my PC?

@RichieWhy,Interesting introduction, to the point. No problem, just disable Secure Boot. The PSU is adequate based on the previous draw of 65W (GT 635), your adding just 55W with GTX 1060 (120W total), and you committed an overall 150W increase.

Desktops can be upgraded but it is not easy or cost effective on laptops even if it were possible. Save the money for a new computer. Ram can be upgraded to 8GB. So if you already have 8 gb you are at the max. Read this review for the difficulty of upgrading this model--

Regarding the 3040 MT. The I-5 6500 version. The 3040 MT lists a PSU of 240 watts. I want to add a GPU. The Dell Social Media Support guy (from the Dell forums) said that the Nvidia GT 745 was one of the video cards tested.
Nvidia's site lists the GT 745 as a 55 watt GPU with a 300 watt PSU requirement for that 745 card. Yet the Dell team found no problems with the GT745. Can someone explain this for me?
I want to upgrade the GPU, but do not want to wreck something by doing so. The GPU card I really want is the GTX 1050 which is a 75 watt card but all other parameters are the same as the 745. Mechanically it will fit perfectly. The only issue is the wattage.
Second, is there some listed PSU upgrades available? Or perhaps adapters for aftermarket PSU's? How difficult is it if I wanted to upgrade to a more powerful PSU? Does Dell have that option with this computer?
I spent 32 hopeless minutes on Dell's support phone line listening to people read out specs from the sales brochure. Nobody, even in so called "tech support" could answer the questions.
Can ANYONE here please help me on this?

A:Optiplex 3040 MT Mini Tower Question about PSU upgrades and GPU Upgrades

Our OEM (original equipment manufacturer) customized GeForce GT 745 X61TN is not the same card as the retail GeForce GT 745. The memory and clock settings may differ. That is the difference. But it is easy to remove our 240w PSU (power supply unit) and install a higher wattage PSU. Read through the Owner's Manual. It has instructions on how to do this. The retail Geforce GTX 1050 needs at least a 300w PSU. Another 3040 owner will need to post a retail PSU that has worked.

I'd like to  replace them with faster, 'classier' fans (and maybe a cpu cooler upgrade)

I've had many difficulties upgrading my Dell Inspiron from seven pro to Ten. Now that I finally have Ten up and running, it needs an activation key. Apparently in order to keep it running.

I have the slmgr -dlv report attached. What does it tell WRT my eligibility. If it says no, how do I get a good key? My original product key is for Vista and my upgrade was with a seven Pro OEM disk purchased from Amazon a couple of years ago. There is no product key on the packaging or the disc. I used ShowKeyPlus to get an activation key but the windows install says that it is a general application key (or something like that) and won't work.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, it is eligible for activation. You just have to enter a valid Windows 7/8/8.1/10 Pro product key.

A genuine Microsoft product would have come with a product key sticker. You probably did not get a valid genuine Microsoft product that was eligible for you to use in the first place. Microsoft is improving their product key checking.

Hi I have a Switch 10 32gb, it seems to be an eligible device. However, I don't receive the icon tray notification. But, in addition, how could I even think to update it to Windows 10 if this requires 16 gb free disk space? I guess this amount of GB was not even free when I bought it! So, how did you manage to update it?  ThanksFabio

A:Switch 10 eligible, but space will be never enough...

I solved with a "radical" solution and i got 18 Gb of free space after installing Win10 and Office. This is what i done: 1) Back up of all my data (documents, pictures etc)2) Hard Reset of my Switch 10 (Alt+F10 at startup, complete recovery option). With hard reset you'll have about 17 Gb free after Win 8.1 recovery. This will be enaugh for avoiding the "not enough space" error during Win 10 upgrade.3) Installation of the only required update to upgrade to Win 10 (KB 3035583)4) Upgrade to Win 10 by using Windows Media Creation Tool.5) Check for Windows 10 activation.6) Make a bootable USB stick using Windows Media Creation Tool.7) Perform a clean installation of Windows 10 by deleting ALL partitions (also the Win 8.1 recovery). (Power button + volume up to enter BIOS settings and set USB as primary boot device, remember to remove USB stick after first installation reboot, you'll not asked for) Steps 4 and 5 are mandatory because if you don't activate Win 10 by upgrading from Win 8.1 you will have activation issues (the product key of Win 10 is not the same of Win 8.1). With this solution you'll lose definitely your software warranty and support (that covers only pre-installed Win 8.1) but the hardware warranty is kept (i had this information by Acer Support Service). If you want to keep Win 8.1 recovery partition you'll have about 8 Gb less (10 free) after installation of Windows and Office. After installation i... I think "eligible" in this case means "eligible for Acer driver support".  My unoffical opinion (I don't work for Acer)  In other words, if you upgrade an Acer computer that's not on the list, then you're on your own to find drivers.  In most cases, Microsoft will automatically give you the drivers you need during the upgrade.   Windows 10 provides a 30 day rollback feature, but be sure to backup your files and make recovery discs or recovery USB drive prior to upgrading....just in case.   http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29934/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDQ0MTU1ODA... Edit:  So you can click "ok, notify me when ready" and it will let you know when it is ready (Microsoft has all your drivers).Edit2: As to why a fairly recent computer isn't on the list...I don't have a guess.

Is is there a workaround?

Just a clarification needed to address your question, lbeck. Are you booting from install USB intending a clean install or just running the setup.exe in the root of the USB to perform the upgrade per se? If only upgrading, you need to make sure your USB has precise edition of Win10 needed to upgrade from your Win7 edition.

Greetings,

Mods may want to pin this for easy reference:

Microsoft has provided a compatibility list to determine if your computer running Windows 10 is eligible for the Creators Update. Here is that list:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...puter-is/5152bb37-f95d-48a6-b7b2-ad0d5c738923

While most systems will eventually get Creators Update, older systems, designed with processors for Windows 7 to 8.1 may not. For example, Adom Clover Trail processors, were discontinued by Intel and were produced from around 2012-2014, so those machines will only get fixes up to Anniversary Update. Search online for more details. Computers that were manufactured with Windows 10 out of the box, should be fine.

Microsoft will provide older processors running Windows 10 Anniversary Update with Windows 10 Updates until 2023. For machines that are newer and can get Creators Update, Microsoft will support Anniversary Update until March of 2018. The cycle is that support for a Windows 10 build will be good for 18 months per each release of Windows 10 Feature Updates for the life of the device that runs Windows 10.

It is also recommended that only advanced users upgrade to the Creators Update manually. The automatic update process includes processor and hardware checks before the download happens automatically. You may bi-pass some of those checks if you do the update manually. You will be asked to review your privacy settings, before the update begins.

A:Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium SP1 Product Not Eligible for Upgrade?

Hello and welcome Carl I don't know exactly why but it does recommend you remove any security suites from the machine before you go ahead.

My own personal experience is that one of my desktops upgraded from an OEM Home version I put on but my Toshiba laptop upgraded but would not go past build 10074 and kept asking me to activate it so it could be purely down to glitches or bugs in the system.

By the by how did you get the 10 as I downloaded the ISO and then loaded it from booting from the DVD? As I said I had an OEM clean install to get rid of all the Toshiba crapware - maybe the HP stuff could be causing the problem/s.

For some reason, Windows 8.1. downloader package refuses to see my 8GB SanDisk flash drive as a target for creating bootable Windows 8.1 installer USB media. A 16GB Patriot drive is detected and processed properly, but 8GB SanDisk is ignored. The same is true for the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool.

What could be causing this?

When I create the media on the 16GB drive, only 3+GB is used, which means that 8GB drive should be sufficiently large.

UPDATE: It appears that the SanDisk drive is not detected as "removable", so neither Windows 8 downloader nor Windows 7 USB/DVD tool see it as a valid target. There are quite a few reports of that issue on the Net. So, how do I create a bootable Windows 8.1 install media from that SanDisk drive?

A:8GB USB flash drive not eligible as installer boot media?

My question involves upgrading a home desktop to Windows 7 Ultimate. I have a copy of Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista Ultimate which are Academic versions I purchased at a discount from my university. (I already purchased the Student Windows 7 edition for my laptop).

I do not want to purchase the Upgrade retail box version to then learn the Academic version of XP and Vista are not eligible for the Upgrade version of Windows 7 Ultimate. Or will I need to purchase the Full Retail Box version to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate?

A:Academic XP Professional eligible for Retail "Upgrade"?

You are "Eligible" to upgrade from any version of xp or vista - but you can only perform in-place upgrades from certain versions, the fact that they are academic should not matter. But see Windows 7 Upgrade Paths for details about which versions can be upgraded in place.

The gpu upgrade is not really possible. The video chip is soldered to the motherboard and not removeable or replaceable or upgradeable. Here is the Manual: Manual You have 12 gigs of DDR4-2133 SO-DIMM RAM or an 8 gig and a 4 gig and the max would be 2 x 8 = 16. 12 gig to 16 gig upgrade will have no effect on gaming performance and very little on overall performance.  Your huge performance upgrade would be a solid state drive...the 5400 rpm mechanical "spinner" hard drive is the system bottleneck but SSDs again have almost zero impact on gaming fps. Post back with any more questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi guys,

I just bought my wife a new laptop for her studies so she will stay awy from the desktop (not exactly how it happened, but same outcome ).

Sooooooo........I feel I am fully justified in upgrading this creaky old desktop I am on just now.

I bought it from dell a few years ago now, and all I've done is bought a new case (as the dell one that I had was very thin and couldn't fit a new power supply that was easily available), mounted everything in the new case with a new power supply and upgraded my old graphics card to a new-ish ATI Radeon 5700, which does the trick just about.

This is what I am running (and please let me know if more info is needed in order to help me!):
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 @ 2.20 Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 5700
Dell Motherboard (Intel G33/G31/P35 Express Chipset)
3 GB of RAM
Windows XP

I am wanting to upgrade to make everything faster (I don't play many graphics intense games these days, but would like to get back into it).

I am thinking that my processor definately needs a boost, and maybe a little more RAM too, although I'm unsure if this means I need to upgrade my Motherboard too, and if so, what I should get.

I am pretty keen to learn how to build, maintain and upgrade my system by myself, and any input at all would be awesome!

Thanks in advace!

Bezza

A:Need help with some upgrades.

That Dell Inspiron 530S is less than 3 years old and isn't a "creaky old desktop" by any means.

If it's using the 32-bit version of Windows XP, it's not going to recognize and use more than 3 GB of RAM - which it already has.

If it's using the 64-bit version of Windows XP, you can increase the RAM to its maximum supported amount of 4 GB.

By the time you buy and upgrade all the components that you're considering, you'd be better off buying a new desktop.

I'm not a hardware expert, so I'll pass to someone else who may have some better advice for you.

Hey,
Sorry my first post has to be a question and I would like to say that I have browsed TSG many times before and it has helped me a lot!

Anyway, basically I am going to be upgrading my laptop and when looking on ebuyer I just thought to myself, "Will my laptop actually support these?".

So my question is will my laptop support:

4gb RAM
Faster Intel Pentium Dual Core

I currently have a HP G7015EA Notebook PC running Windows Vista x64 Ultimate, I have looked on the HP website and cannot find any information on the maximum amount of RAM my laptop can support.

For the second point, I currently have a "Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T2310 @ 1.46GHz" (Taken from dxdiag). Is there any change of upgrading the CPU aswell?

Here is a link to my DxDiag file if it helps:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dg4b5jc8_67gf7mjqgw

All help is appreciated, thanks guys!

A:PC Upgrades

Raidmax is not a recommended pw supply for gaming systems. Good ie recommended units; corsair [ax, hx or rm models ONLY] seasonic, FSP [only units with the 5yr warranty or antec [only the HCG models]
Your pw supply carries a 2yr warranty. A quality unit comes with at least a 5yr warranty. That alone should tell you about the quality of raidmax.

To answer your question, no I would not use that pw supply with either a single gtx970 or two of them.

I just purchased an external hard drive, mainly for transferring file from work to home. The problem is that it take forever to transfer using USB 1. I have no idea how to upgrade, or if I am already equipped, just not set properly. I have the everest program, but I don't know what information is appropriate to include. If firewire is easier/more effective, that would be okay too. Thanks.

A:USB upgrades

If it's a desktop PC, then you can buy a card to upgrade to usb 2.0.. firewire is normally faster, but not as portable as a USB device since not all PC's have a firewire port, and USB 2.0 devices are backwards compatable with USB 1.1.

Hi ALL

Is anyone familiar with this Dell model
(Xps 625 amd phenom x3 8750 black edition 2.4gig X3)
If so, could I upgrade the processor, the Ram and my windows 7 32 bit software to 64bit?
So far I have been unable to upgrade from 32bit to 64bit because it says the cd/dvd drive is missing drivers, but is this the problem?

Hey all,

Christmas is not that far away and was thinking if there was anything I could upgrade in my computer system. I know for one thing I want a new case. I've been looking at a few and any more suggestions to that would be appreciated.

My current system:
AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor 5600+ @ 2.9Ghz
6GB Ram
2x 500GB Hard Drives
Nvidia GeForce 9400GT with 1GB
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
PSU: 450W

Any ideas/suggestions or whatever else will be appreciated.

Thanks,

A:Upgrades?

If you do a lot of PC gaming (new games) I would suggest a new video card. Something like a 9800GT or higher.

If you don't do gaming then save your Christmas wishes for something else because you already have a nice PC and there's not much sense wasting them on computer parts.

What upgrades should I get for my current rig?

I kinda don't want to spend way to much on upgrading it as I'll be building a new one fairly soon, but I just want to get this one upgraded fully first.

A:What upgrades should I get?

well looking at your rig there isnt anything that stands out as needing to be upgraded....

you could sell the 8400 & grab a quad, but if you cant OC the quad to the same as the dual, you'll actually loose performance..

or you could sell the GTX260 & grab a 295 or 275, but your PSU may need addressing then.

so.....i'd move onto the next rig mate, that one is a ''finished product''

You have a laptop. Pretty much, you are limited to upgrading the RAM and the hard drive. (On some, you can also upgrade the wireless network card.) The processor is soldered onto the motherboard.

I just realized this, ipads have free OS updates. If you buy a 500 dollar ipad, you're guaranteed at least a couple of free new OS upgrades.

Windows 8 doesn't.

This could be an issue for Microsoft in the tablet front, especially the WinRT tablets. If one buys a 4 or 500 dollar WinRT tablet, they aren't guaranteed Windows 9. They will be if they pay for it. And if one does, that tacked on at least 100 dollars to the cost of probably a tech degraded WinRT tablet.

Probably not good...

Apple has charged of iOS updates in the past. There is no guarantee that they will continue to keep offering it for free. We shall just have to see.

Looking to see what consensus is on an SSD upgrade to HP ultrabook. I thought I would try the following; 1. swap out HDD for new Samsung EVO2. Swap of 2GB ram chip for 4 GB ram chip for total of 8GB3. Then upgrade to win10. Biggest concern I have is whether to leave or remove the 32GB mSSD drive?  My goal, given the age of the laptop, is speed, or as much as I can get before breaking out the wallet. thoughts?  My understanding is going with 1 and only one SSD would be faster than the relatively older and slower cache drive writing to the SSD. thanks for your comments.

If you have a pci-express slot then I suggest:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102714

You could also go for a 3870, but I think your processor would bottleneck before you'd be able to get maximum performance out of that card on modern games.

If you don't have a pci-express slot and you have AGP then wait a little while and the 3850 will come out for agp (woot!).

That card is undoubtedly the best you can buy for price/performance.
