Internet Explorer weird behavior

Q: Internet Explorer weird behavior

Hi everyone in these forums, Im posting this because I suspect I've got a virus(es) on my desktop computer, I use mainly internet explorer for browsing the web, but recently it started acting a little bit weird, whenever a I try to surf to a website, it appears a window saying that "the navigation to "x" page was canceled (where "x" is any website url) or denied, suddenly the website that was loading doesn't open and a "webpage cannot be found" page appears.

Here are my Specs:

Intel Celeron D 2.8Ghz
256MB of DDR SDRAM
80GB IDE Hard Disk Drive
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Onboard video and audio

Here my HijackThis report :

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello,

I've dealing with a weird issue, and I'm lost at this point... need some additional pair of "eyes" to find out the issue described below:

Machine: HP Pro Model 3515 64 bits
OS : Windows 7 Pro 64bits
RAM : 4 GB
Processor: AMD
Antivirus: ESET NOD 32 (current/updated)

PC was working perfectly fine until yesterday, all the sudden every time I do open Windows Explorer (from the pinned icon in the task bar) it shows ONLY the Favorite and Library Folder and with a search icon spinning over those folders...never respond or change state after that, however if at the same time I do open a second instance (right click over the icon) it works as it should showing everything.... that is the first indication that something is going on... the second indication is that every folder is show now with the "Empty Folder Icon" even when there are files inside of each folder... right click over a folder doesn't show the "Customize" tab where to change or restore the default icon... at the same time if I delete any file and then go to the desktop and clean the recycle bin the "Recycle Icon" disappear ... I'm really going crazy with this... I had explore every setup for the folders without luck...

Now the painful part.... I did re-install the computer from zero... wipe out it completely... after re-install all the test run perfectly... no issues at all... until I restore a couple folders (that shown the issue) from the backup... immedia... Read more

Hello everyone,

These problems started happening maybe several months ago. I don't really use this laptop that often, so I have no idea what could of caused this. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Here are a list of the problems that are occuring.
1. If I press computer in the start menu, it “freezes.” It continually searches for drives but the blue wheel keeps spinning and nothing shows up even after 10 minutes. So far I've only noticed this with Computer, I can just press Documents from the start menu, and it instantly loads, and then click on the drive and go to where I want to go.

2. Sometimes a window will freeze for no reason. If I right click a file or folder in that window, it will always freeze that window. I have tried to right click a folder in 5 separate windows and it froze every one of them. Doesn't matter where the file location is, it can happen to any window. By freeze I mean the same spinning blue wheel, and the window cannot be moved or won’t respond ever again (I've left the window for hours and it never unfreezes). The only way to fix this is to end explorer.exe in the task manager and restart it, but that doesn't prevent it from happening again.

3. Some icons like text documents will look like a blank page with its upper right corner folded. Resetting the icon cache fixed this. On my desktop, currently my text documents and VLC player are missing their normal icons, replaced by this blank page.

4. In the column in the far lef... Read more

Hello everyone, I've recently had a false positive virus on my computer that was quarantined as a keylogger [Click Here] and since then my computer has seemed to act sort of strange. First of all, hardly any programs respond correctly or are extremely slow, as an example, I just opened notepad, a seemingly easy program to run but as I was typing or just anything, it froze then became unresponsive along with explorer.exe (windows.exe = start menu, task bar, desktop ect.). The day before I ran three different virus scanners to determine if I had anymore virus's on my computer or not. (I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, BitDefender, and Microsoft Security Essentials).
Malwarebytes came up as clean but BitDefender and Microsoft Security Essentials both came up with one trojan each. But I determined that they where both false positives because I've used them for a while and they caused me no trouble at all, but back to my main problem. Whenever I start up Google Chrome or any web browser it takes a very long time for them to load the webpage or anything at all, sometimes not even loading at all (simply crashing).

I've looked at the "Monday Internet Doomsday" virus on the FBI's website and scanned my computer's IP and DNS and found out they where clean or supposedly clean. Then just curious I started the Command Prompt and typed in "ipconfig /allcompartments /all" and first noticed that my desktop's "Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection" was differ... Read more

My computer was recently infected when I visited gamecopyworld.com. I've managed to clean out the infection, but IE is exhibiting some odd behavior ever since.

When I open IE and try to use the address bar to connect to a website, it looks like it's trying to connect, but then it just sits there and doesn't display anything and when I try to close the window I sometimes get the "End Task" dialog. I can open pages stored locally on my hard drive and link to other web pages from there (this is how I got the virus/trojan/etc. removed by using Housecall, turned out to be Vundo), and when I open a new window while IE is already running and displaying a web page, I can then use the address bar to go to a new page. I've downloaded and run several of the programs mentioned in articles I've read on this site:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
SuperAntiSpyware
ATF-cleaner
LSPfix

I cleaned out everything they recommended and I'm still having problems. Firefox seems unaffected.

Try these fixes:Log on as an administrator, go Start > Run and type: "cmd". In the window that appears type: "netsh winsock reset". When the program is finished, you will receive the message: "Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset." Close the command box and reboot your computer.Go Start > Run > type: "cmd" In the window that appears type: "ipconfig /flushdns". Close the command box.Go Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and and choose Properties. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item. Select the radio button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". Reboot. Warning: Some Internet Service Providers need specific DNS settings. You need to make sure that you know if such DNS settings are required before you make this change.

Ok, I'm relatively new at the whole computer thing and I know, "What took you so long?"

I have Windows XP but just recently, when I try to open Internet Explorer, it may take a few attempts before it opens.(ya' know the hourglass expires before anything happens) However, when I log off, ending program task panel opens, then ending program iexplore.exe opens and keeps opening for the amount of times I tried to open internet explorer.
This leads me to believe that it in fact opened somewhere but not anywhere I can see it. Also on occasion, the task panel will turn blue for quite sometime when I close out an open window.
I tried searching for an answer to this problem but to no avail, so any advice here would be most appreciated.

Hi. My Internet Explorer just started acting strangely on my Netbook. Sometimes when I click on a link I just get returned to the Google homepage. Sometimes it's a chore trying to even get to the Google homepage because all these different search home pages come up. Sometimes there are advertisements that pop up at seemingly random times. Sometimes I get an error when trying to register on a website.
I may not have an active antivirus program running so that may be an issue. I would also like to check to see if my Registry has been compromised if possible.
Also I have practically maxed out the drive with too many song files so I probably should remove some of those. The computer is also much slower than it was.
Thanks.

Recently I've been having trouble closing Internet Explorer successfully. Oftentimes I'll get a very suspicious error window that says "closing this window may cause serious problems." Generally when that happens I'll end the process via Task Manager rather than clicking on anything on the error window. I'm a bit paranoid that I may be infected with a key-logger of some type and I'd very much like to keep my online accounts secured. Once I've gotten the all clear from you guys I plan on creating new strong passwords for all my accounts. I hope someone can help me work this out, it's driving me crazy!
I'll try to explain it in as few words as possible!
There is a website we need to access on which we're having trouble getting some of the buttons to display. In short it works when the internet zone is set to "Medium" but not when it's "Medium-High" (I have added it to trusted sites
but in properties it shows as "Unknown Zone (Mixed)" so seems to use the "Internet Zone" settings.)
I am trying to track down which security setting is causing the issue. To do this my plan was to make a note of all the settings that differ between Medium and Medium-High. However if I set it to medium-high and manually change all the settings
to be identical to medium it still doesn't work... yet if I use the "Reset to: Medium" option at the bottom it does work! This doesn't make any sense to me.
Are there other hidden stetting affected by the "Reset to" option that I can't change manually.
Any help would really be appreciated! Thanks!

System: WindowsME
As for spyware, ran upon it, got rid of it with Ad-aware and Spybot S&D.

The problem?

I'm not sure if it is the after effects of a spyware cleaning, or not... but I've been having a LOAD of trouble lately with internet explorer.

1.IE wants to download things to TEMP. Things such as EXE's are warned against, and there is no way to uncheck it to NOT warn me. If I hit open, it downloads to TEMP, and auto-opens. Zips, they didn't even ask me, they just auto downloaded to TEMP and opened. I fixed this however by uninstalling winzip 9.

2.Also, php files, I try to run a small apache server with php just for testing some code, and it wants to auto download php! I've tried opening the PHP files and setting them to open with IE, but it wont display, it just wants me to save the file instead of view it.

3.I try to uncheck the option to show the dialup monitors in the system tray, but they wont hide. The flashing is irritating

4.I've managed to delete the things in my TEMP directory, but there is one file that wont delete. It is called "~DFF93B.TMP" I've tried booting into safe mode to delete it, but it still is put back as soon as I do it. I'm thinking this might be the problem.. but it may be something safe. I really don't know.

All I want is to be able to download with IE without it telling me "FILES OF THIS ARE DANGEROUS..BLAHBLAH.." (the check is grayed out to tell it to stop asking me, ... Read more

I've read all the topics that looked like they could help and none of them seemed to address a problem such as mine.Operating System: Windows XP Professional version 2002 Service Pack 3 (old as dirt.)The problem: My computer will lag up and sometimes it will deselect whatever I am doing. I'll be typing and all of the sudden the window will be deselected and nothing I typed will have been put down. Maybe that's not a serious problem, but I'll see if I can get a screen shot of what I mean. It has happened three times since I have been typing this which has been 25 minutes or so. Ok got one: Whenever that deselection thing happens it seems like internet explorer is opened up. I can't see the window. I can only see that internet explorer is open when I look in the processes tab of Windows Task Manager. Sometimes there are multiple Iexplorers running at the same time. Screenshot of iexplorer in the process list: Yesterday Firefox and Internet Explorer were crashing constantly. I uninstalled internet explorer 7 to see if it would stop crashing and opening up multiple times(in the process list). That didn't work. Is it an older version of iexplorer that's on the computer that's causing this? I don't even use internet explorer. It's just the fact that it's opening without me asking it to is bugging me. Plus the fact that it's slowing down my computer.Reinstalled firefox last nigh... Read more

A friend of mine has just created a website for my father.
I'm experiencing a problem with the site that only seems to affect my home PC. When you visit the homepage on the site (www.goldmagneticbangles.com) there should be a "delivery and guarentee" navigation button next to "order info" but on my PC it's missing. It's there on my work PC and everyone I've asked can see it and use it OK. Whilst this is not a major problem and it seems that the site is OK it's bugging me that I can't see it. Has anyone experienced anything like this before or can anyone shed any light on the matter. I've tried using IE6, Opera and Avant Browser with the same result. I've tried resizing the text on the page - no dice. Deleting my temp files - nope.
Please help.

Since i got my new pc last week ive encountered some strange internet crashes. My system is working fine then out of the blue on random occasions my IE stops working (see attached images), my msn/xfire etc however are all still working. Although they do crash on occasion when this happens. I really don't know what to make of this, its only happaned since i got my new pc with vista. If i leave it sometimes i resets itself and i can use IE again, my downloads usually stop working during this time also. I'm not doing anything different to what i was doing on my old pc. I don't know if this helps, but when this happens and i have to restart my computer it takes unusually long to do so. Please help!

This happened to me too since I bought this new computer with Vista 6 months ago,and it got to be very frustrating because it was happening more and more, its actually a very common problem with the Vista/IE7 combination,I found no cure for it despite 3 months of searching different sites for a cure ...I have cured it now however, one day a month or so back I decided to give IE8 a try and lo and behold that fixed the problem,it just doesn't happen any more,so suggest you give it a try ....

Hello ignorantmonkey and welcome to BC Sorry about all the problems you are having. I see that you've run Spybot and AVG Free. Did they find anything?I would like to try a scan with a different program to see if it turns up anything. You might want to print out these directions or copy them to notepad because you won't have internet access for a part of this procedure. I would like you to scan with SUPERAntiSpyware in Safe Mode. You will, of course, install it in Normal Mode.Download and install SUPERAntiSpyware free found here: SUPERAntiSpywareBe sure to click on the download button to the left, not on the free trial download on the right. Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.? It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.? Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.? Click the Scanning Control tab.? Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked: Close browsers before scanning Scan for tracking cookies Terminate memory threats before quarantining.o Please leave the others unchecked.o Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.Reboot into Safe Mode? Download L2MFix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts. Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening. After a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 or any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

I downloaded some screen themes and it comes with a surprise inside... search bars for the IE . Something go wrong an they don't succesfully installed. Since then the IE won't open any page.

I used the Spybot and HijackThis to find problems and take rid of some problems ike the clearsearch and so. Also find that the " open in new page " feature doesn't work, also the links in software that open a new window of IE ( they open the window, but it doesn't surf ).

Looking close I can see that if you tape for example

www.google.com

at the address bar the system looks for:

www.www.google.com.com

I CAN surf the web in a normal window ( like the My Computer window ) but in the IE normal window.

I have days wih this problem and no info can help to fix it..

reintall IE, register again DLLs, take rid of rare software, reconfigure the properties, etc.

It must be something in the register missing and I can't find it.

Do an online virus scan at TrendMicro or RAV Antivirus.

End the following processes (Ctrl+Alt+Del keys):

dpmw32.exe
wupdater.exe

Check and fix the following in HiJackThis:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NDPS] C:\WINNT\System32\dpmw32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [updater] C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\wupdater.exe

Do you recognize this entry (either ISP or company network ip)? If not, fix it also:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int
ernet Settings,ProxyServer = 62.61.195.34 :80

These are not really required to be run at startup and can be fixed also if you want:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Do a search for the following and delete them if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Common files\updater\ -- delete entire folder

Reboot and go into HiJackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Check for update online to get version HiJackThis v1.98 if you haven?t done so already. Then post a new HJT log file to make sure it?s clean.

The problem is my mom's computer is in my opinion infected. When accessing internet explorer 7 A system error box appears saying the machine is infected and suggests a download of an antivirus program. Obviously I hit cancel but the box re-appears untill the page is finished loading. However, this is not all. On Google and Yahoo! search (the only two i've tried so-far) There is a box saying i'm infected. The link directly above and below this box are misleading, and there is an advertisement to, lets just say, inappropriet videos.
I've seen the error message issue throughout this site, but no real answer to my concerns. I've run the "SUPERanti-spyware and Malwarebytes Anti -malware" to no real effect.
I'm currently posting from my PC but some background info on hers: Windows XP 64-bit, Avast Anti-Virus using real-time protection service.
If there is anything I can do to give more info I'll try but like I said the browser is annoyingly infected.

One last note, her browsers are (IE7, AOL Explorer, and AOL) I'm only getting the issue on IE7 and have not tried AOL but AOL Explorer is fine.

Please help me BC, I've followed this site for help before and you've never failed me, I'm at your mercy. Thank-you!

When i boot my computer, on the bottom right corner of my screen is displayed for a half sec "0033" then my bios logo is shown but with some weird violet dots on the logo and even on the windows startup screen is shown some dots then it won't continue to boot up, i don't see even the Welcome screen. I can see the welcome screen and the rest only if i don't instal my driver or when i enter in safe mode. This problem is surely from the video card because i made that test on another computer and i have already cleaned the golden pins but the same problem.
I'm thinking to buy a new video card but first, i want to know if anybody can solve this problem.

If you've tested the video card on another computer and it does the same thing then the only thing you can do is replace it, there isn't much on a video card that can be user repairable.

I've been using a new laptop with Windows 7 for about a week and everything has worked normally until today. The issues are with Internet Explorer. Here are the symptoms:Youtube: The youtube logo image loads but the advertisement at the top is an empty white box. All videos are black boxes with no images. The sign in button is visible but not functional so I have no way to log in.Most websites will not load images from other sites (such as advertising banners).Gmail: Login button works but I get stuck on the loading screen with zero progress. If I click on the "basic html version" it allows me to proceed.Mcafee: If I start the program it just says "Activating your product. Please wait while we connect to mcaffee.com" and just hangs there with the spinning loading symbol.Google groups: All pages just load a blank white screen.I've followed these steps: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...e-7fa41d293652 Deleting temporary files, cookies, etc. and restarting had no effect.
Also, I have no idea why the formatting of this post looks so odd.

A:Weird IE behavior

We need to establish if it's an IE problem only, or if it's caused by a problem somewhere else. Please install Firefox and let us know if that shows any of the same problems on the same websites you've referred to.

Get Firefox here: Firefox web browser | International versions: Get Firefox in your language

Actually, if Firefox does all that you want, I would recommend you use that instead of IE. Firefox is far more customisable than IE, is updated much more often and allows you to use your web browser the way you want to, not the way Microsoft wants you to.

For many years now, I only use IE for Microsoft websites where ActiveX is required. Every where else it's Firefox.

Hello,

My PC started to act very weird like one week ago, it can shut down (sometimes two times in a row) few seconds after start-up without any warnings. The point is, once you turn it back on after these one or two times it works like a charm, EXCEPT if you turn on teamspeak ((?) the weirdest part), if you turn on teamspeak you can be sure that your PC will get a blue window of death in something like 5 mins. If you don't turn on teamspeak you can do whatever you want with your PC whole day nothing bad will happen.

It can turn off too if you don't do anything with it (?) if you take your dog for a walk, after you come back you can see that PC is off, or just go to the kitchen to get something to eat, come back and its off... Really weird, illuminati.

It isn't heat issues, not overheating, PSU doesn't push out hot air (normal) and I can see that GPU and CPU has always good temperatures in temp. monitoring programs (even while gaming)

Cleaned all the dust after these problems started, made sure all cables are well and in place.

Not sure what to do.

I reinstalled windows after dust cleaning.

It's really annoying and time consuming

I have an Gateway 510T 512MB memory and 120GB hard drive running at 2800mhz.
I reinstalled my entire windows xp home sp/2 operating system today. Evrything went as it always has. I reinstalled my drivers for networks and graphics and sound bios. Then I installed Secunia after doing all windows updates and installing IE7. Secunia (the latest edition rs3 i believe) Anyway it showed my IE7 and the Windows Xp Home service pack 2 as insecure. I went over the downloads twice and made sure I downloded everything relevant to my system that I have always updated before .I do not ever install SP3. But the secunia still showed both of these as insecure. Then all of a sudden it started adding new programs to its list as installed even though I had not installed them. I'm experiencing weird behavior on my PC. For example, I want to uninstall Norton so I can try out some different software but when I go to add/remove programs, the list never populates. I've just got a blank screen so i can't uninstall the program. This also occurs when i choose the Program Files folder. It's like the folders are invisible. I already checked the preferences aren't set to hide the folders, that option is unchecked. I downloaded that last patch from Microscofy to protect myself from their latest flaw and i get this crap. Right after I restarted my machine I got some blue screen and a message telling me I needed to go to some web site and update my BIOS. Then when I got out of that and rebooted i got the check disk. Any ideas. Should I chunk this one and buy another. Not really an option because I'm seriously underemployed and strapped for cash right now.

Hi there.... hoping someone can help. The problem is: my browser loads super slow.. I have checked all the info on that and nothing helps so far.. deleting cache.. only 1 add-on is active and that is Flash... so hmmmmmm? Sometimes it is SOOOO slow.. othertimes, not too bad. Sometimes the whole computer is brutally slow... The weird IE 7 behavior is this: I will have a browser window open.. or two... with a additional browser tabs open. Sometimes I have 3 or 4 total... other times maybe 10 or so... On occasion, my IE will just start to freeze and randomly, slowly, and non-stop open multiple tabs.. freezing my computer. Last night I had 1 window with 3 tabs.. and it did it.If I catch it quickly enough I can use task manager to end the iexplorer.exe process all together. If I do not... I have to cold reboot my computer as it is completely taken over by this constant process.... what the?In addition, the other day I had Kaspersky Security come up saying it was blocking:Trojan-Downloader.html.fraudload.b which was trying to open: http://keepherd.infoI went through with the block and then closed everything and did a full system scan. My virus definitions are up to date... But nothing came up as infected. As far as I can remember, I was on super clean/professional sites... News sites etc... no gaming or sketchy sites....I am wondering if the two are related (the browser behavior and the Trojan thing). I can't find the Trojan anywhere. I did a registry search for keepherd.... Read more

If you have group policy, do the following.
Open the gp editor, then drill down to Computer config-Administrative Templates-Windows Components-Internet Explorer. Look in the right pane for "Prevent performance of First Run Customize settings". Enable that policy.

Today I've been receiving pop ups that tell me my system is infected and needs to be scanned (it seems like a scam, so I cancel the scan). Also, sometimes when I click on links, Firefox downloads the .php file of the webpage instead going to the address of the link. (This problem started at the same time of the pop ups.) Here's my log:

Windows XP, a Sony Vaio laptop not more than 1.5 years old (Intel Dual Core, etc.). Mostly use Firefox browser, but also Safari and IE, on occasion.

For about a month now, I'm being awakened in the early morning hours by the sound of the computer 'running' or 'ramping up'. Like the fan is on high. When I open the lid and open task manager, I see that many of the processes (almost all of them) are pulling down about four times what they usually show from the central processor. Let's say under 'normal' circumstances a process might use up 5,490 KB of hte CP, but shows 23,000KB at 6AM. ALL of the processes look like that at 6AM. I don't get it.

I have a VIPRE (Counterspy Anti-Spy and Anti-Virus) scan scheduled for 1AM. I run AdAware when the mood strikes, usually every few days. I uninstalled SpyBot after reading reviews and concluding it was too ineffective in its current iteration. I have Windows updates set to automatic. I download all security updates when asked to do so by Hewlett Packard (for printer), Adobe Flash, etc. Other than VIPRE, I have nothing scheduled for 6AM. Even if I did, why would that make all the processes 'ramp up' like that?

Once it starts, the only way I can get this beast to stop is to shut it off, which I do. Then, when I turn it back on, the processes look normal again. The other thing I notice, is that when I reboot the computer, I get a warning message that 'no firewall is turned on... Read more

Hi Anonix,

We ran across your post and wanted to see if we could help. The Vipre scan should long be over by 6:00am if it started at 1:00am. Although VIPRE is very easy on system resources during a scan, they still can cause a computer to react slower during the time it is scanning.

When you wake your computer look at the VIPRE icon in the system tray (down by the time on your desktop), If this green VIPRE is still scanning.

It may be a good idea to contact our support at Sunbelt directly at [email protected] one of our techs can make sure that VIPRE is set up correctly.

I've just started getting exactly the same message, initially IE 7 would then take 2 or 3 minutes to open after displaying this message. I have reset IE7 to it's initial settings and it now opens and runs quickly but I still get the message. Running Vista Home.

Hi,
I just purchased my computer a couple of weeks ago. It comes with Vista 64 bit.

Today a problem happened for the second time. I type some website into the internet explorer address bar, then it goes crazy opening the exact same page over and over and over.

Have a look at this screenshot

Any idea what causes this? Apparently after opening tons of windows, IE runs out of resources and the windows become black.

Notice that these are NOT advertising pop-ups. It is just the same website opening over and over.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Is it the same website - or does any website do this? How about Google?

Have you tried doing the same in Firefox?

Hello.

I have a problem with IE7. As soon as I run it, a red/yellow flashing popup overlays itself, over every website. It actually loads within the website. Usually, it doesn't cause any problem, other than a massive obstruction. However, related to this I'm sure is that several security websites redirect to search.msn.com (for instance, I cannot visit Trend Micro in IE7). Other browsers (Opera, Safari) are not affected. The popup/overlay has hyperlinks, just regular text, to several sites, including google.ru, gmail.ru, and a few other (legit) websites. Clicking on them does actually take you to those sites, too. Spybot, Adaware, AVG -- nothing has identified it.

Hope you can help. Cheers.
