Upgrading ram voids warranty? (ASUS)

Q: Upgrading ram voids warranty? (ASUS)

I have an asus A555L core i3, 4gb ram and an nvidia 930m. 4gb of ram is a bit less, so im planning to upgrade it. There is a removable cover, covering the ram slot screwed to the bottom of the laptop. If i add another 4 gb of ram by opening the cover, will my warranty be void. There are no stickers talking about warranty in the back. The screw is covered by a small circular black tape like thing.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It might, hard to say? You'd have to read the terms of the warranty. It likely says it OK as long as done my a reputable service center. How old is the laptop and when does the warranty run out? I have a K75DE, I opened the cover and swapped out the hard drive for an SSD shortly after I got it. There wasn't any stickers covering my access screws though. My warranty period has expired long ago now though. I didn't lose any sleep over opening mine up when I did it. I just saved the hard drive in case I ever had to get it serviced. I would have just swapped it back in.

Dear Customer< This does not void warranty unless until there is a physical damage observed with the hard drive or the lid in the time of service. If there is no physical damage, the warranty support would be provided as normal terms and conditions.   Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

I have checked with a major computer manufacturer as to the status of the Warranty for customers who upgrade to W10.

I have been advised that : - "...... if the upgrade goes wrong and you are unable to revert to your previous OS, then this will result in your warranty being void ....."

I have further been advised that : - ".... if you have not created system recovery disks and therefore do not have recovery media, or should your recovery media fail to recover your system, you will either have to purchase recovery media from us or you will have to return the unit for an out of warranty repair.... ".

If your computer is still covered by a manufacturers warranty then, before upgrading you may want to obtain, in writing, from your manufacturer as to the status of your warranty should things go wrong and should your recovery media not work as expected.

A:Does upgrading hdd to ssd void warranty?

Here is the Service Manual: Manual See p. 60 and 66. For this model in order to switch to an M.2 mSSD you have to get a different adapter. There is one SATA port that can only be connected via a ribbon cable that comes off the correct caddy for either a 2.5 inch hard drive/SSD or an M.2 mSSD. Since your laptop has a hard drive you do have all the equipment to upgrade to a 2.5 inch wide SATA SSD 7mm or 9.5mm thick (other than the SSD itself) The whole section on replacing the hard drive is in the "forbidden zone" where it is supposed to only be done by an authorized technician. HP does not take a definitive position on this and I assume it is on a case-by-case basis. You can assume if you cause any damage during the upgrade you are on your own. And to be safe, you should assume if you open the rear cover you may not have a warranty. if it were my laptop I would not be hesitant to upgrade, but that kind of attitude gets me in trouble sometimes.  Post back with any more questions.

I am using WinXP SP3. My video card is NVIDEA GeForce4 MX 440 (driver ver. 6.14.10.5216). My computer is a Gateway 500X. It came with 512 meg of memory. Years ago, I upgraded this to 1G. After approx. 4 years, I upgraded to 2G. Besides the obvious increase in speed, there is an annoying problem. I have always used Windows Classic Style. This worked fine until I upgraded the memory (Crucial) to 2G. Now, when I open Internet Explorer, the area where the Command and favorites bars are displayed, appear black. This only happens in Windows Classic Style. If I change to Windows XP style, everything works great. As far as problems go, this is minor and annoying, but everything should work in Windows Classic View. If I change the view to Windows Classic and NOT TURN THE COMPUTER OFF, the voids are not there until I turn the computer off for a long while and then turn it back on. If, in Classic View, I reboot the computer, Windows Explorer displays correctly. I could find no Hardware conflicts after upgrading to 2G.

Is it possible to upgrade from a limited warranty to an international warranty?  I have  laptops with more that 600 days worth of warranty cover.

A:Upgrading from Limited to International Warranty

Hi Peteskun,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It is possible for machine with limited warranty to have automatically have IWS but not all.

There are specific models that have International warranty as this depends on the availability of parts specially those that was not marketed to that country. Even if the same model , if the machine tye is different then parts such as the motherboard would not be available and is referred back to the country of purchase for the service.

Here are some FAQ to check on your model regarding IWS.

Upgrades for accidental damage protection and onsite repair maybe a good plan for you.

Hope this helps answer your query.

I have a p7-1058uk that I bought a week ago.Just wondering if I decided to fit a graphics card, or more RAM, myself, will it affect my warranty?

A:Will upgrading computer void warranty?

Hi: Normally it will not affect the warranty unless you damage components when trying to install things yourself. For example, if you snap a memory slot trying to push in a memory module, HP won't cover the damage. They won't cover a blown power supply if you install a graphics card that exceeds the limits of the P/S. Also they will not support any parts you add unless they are HP parts supported or listed for your PC. Other than that, you are free to upgrade away. Paul

Hi people.
I have an oldish A2 that I have been repairing,
It had a 2.6ghz celery desktop cpu that was running very very hot that I have replaced with a 1.8 p4,from a retired beast, this has definately solved the heat problem (as well as removing half an inch of dust) and I would say that performance is around the same.

The questions I have for you all are these,

1. the max cpu speed for this machine is 2.8ghz, now there are a few of these chips floating around on ebay but there are far more chips clocked @
3ghz, if I was to use one of these would the MB simply downclock the chip or would I fry the MB? also would the heat issue return?

2. Regarding RAM, the machine curretly has 512mb of DDR SDRAM, not enough in 2007, the new memory I am looking at buying is DDRII 667,
Will this make a difference or do I need to stick with DDR?

many thanks in advance.

Hello I'm just trying to figure out what my best move would be right now. I'm considering upgrading my system from the current bottleneck, an old Pentium 4. Here are the current relevant system specs:

CPU: Pentium 4 3.0 GHz (530J Prescott)
MB: ASUS P5GPL (ATX)
RAM: 2 Gb DDR(i don't know the speed...it is heck slow compared to the upgrade I'm looking for)
GPU: Nvidia 9600 GT (512 Mb)

I am currently looking at a max budget of $400 (cdn) for cpu, mb, and ram. If I spend any more I would rather build a complete system and something more in a 'cost friendly enthusiast' range. I found a deal at a local computer store for $365+tax (cdn) that includes:

CPU: Intel Core i3-530
MB: Asus P7H55-M Pro (micro-ATX)
RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz

1. Is this a good deal?
2. Can you give me any recommendations for other budget upgrades that will perform comparably?
3. Should I spend a bit more and go for an i5-750?
4. Does anyone know if the built in graphics from the i3-530 will work together with another gpu (otherwise I'll just use my current gpu)?
5. I should be able to use a micro-ATX board as a replacement for my ATX board right (ie. they should still mount in a standard ATX tower)?

note: yes, I do have a 64 bit OS ready to install.

3. The Core i5-750 is almost $200,00 US
4. The Gigabyte BIOS (Award-Phoenix) in the past has allowed onboard and add-in graphics to work simultaneously. I can't speak to Asustek.
5.Matx is about 2/3rds the size of ATX. These boards mount in an ATX case on basically the top 2/3rds of the ATX mounting pattern.

The graphics integrated with the Core i series CPUs are decent. They score about 5.3 in "business and gaming", in the "Windows 7 Experience" tests. Older G31/ G42 Intel graphics scored about 3.5. They won't play Cry... Read more

Prob: no sound coming from onboard outlet. (speakers fine).

Q1.
Bios installed is v.1007 (most recent version available, according to ASUS website is ' Beta Version 1015.003' .. bit concerned with the words 'Beta version', so maybe i should upgrade with 2nd most recent version, namely 'Version 1014'?

It appears that 'version 1013' "Fixed audio/modem codec ID problem" ! but unsure if this will resolve the sound issue i have. Anyway, it may be good to get the latest version anyway and possible just try and get the correct driver - nb no sound drivers are shown at all to be installed!?

Q2. Back to the BIOS upgrading. ASUS website's inx do not seem to be compatible with XP, ie saying create a bootable system floppy (without config and autoexec) + AFLASH.exe software + boot.ini + the BIOS upgrade.
My problem/confusion is not with the software or bios upgrade version on the floppy, but with the boot.ini and the type of 'boot files' i should have on the floppy, in order to get to the aflash menu option and not straight into win xp (as seems to happen).

Be grateful for your help

The command.com is the boot part
The autoexec.bat and config.sys files are for autoloading drivers and commands (not required)

Quote from here: http://support.asus.com/technicaldocuments/technicaldocuments.aspx?root=198&SLanguage=en-us

However, you will need to have AFLASH.EXE (unzipped) utiility and set the floppy drive as the boot drive. Then, type in the command [ FORMAT A:/S ] (without [] brackets) in DOS mode to create a boot disk. Do not keep AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files in it; Later on, choose item [1] ?Save Current BIOS to File (Save Existing BIOS to File) screen will appear. Then, when you see the query for filename appears, please insert a filename (eg. A:\XXX-XX.XXX ) and hit .Click to expand...

Here's your Drivers page (and bios too) again: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=A7V8X&SLanguage=en-us

Or use this way (preferred, in case you have mx and you don't know it)
Please press the green button, and select your drivers

Sorry, it seems you must do this twice, once here, then when you get to Asus support, click it again. This button uses JavaScript (which is enabled by default on most browsers)

Hello. So I have Asus K50IN laptop with
Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T6500 : 2.1 GHz, FSB 800Hz, 2M L2 Cache.
Which is this: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-2-Duo-T6500-Notebook-Processor.34899.0.html

I dont know if this is right but "CPUID CPU-Z" says:
chipset: NVIDIA ID0A83
Southbridge: NVIDIA nForce 730i

I am currently looking for a processor that I could upgrade to.
Is it possible to upgrade my laptop to this: Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor T9900 : 3.06 GHz, FSB 1066Hz, 6M Cache
Which is this: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Core-2-Duo-T9900-Notebook-Processor.23802.0.html

I found this T9900 on ebay but is says: "for intel mobile 45 Chipset etc use ONLY"
I also found different processors but they all say for intel mobile 45/55/65/75/76/77 etc.
So do I need to look for processors that are compatible with NVIDIA ID0A83 ? or would the T9900 work as it is?
Any suggestions or help on this would be nice. Thanks. I also uploaded my "cpu-z" screens just incase you need more info.

A:Upgrading Asus K50IN processor

The "for Intel mobile 45 chipset only..." notification is so that a potential buyer is aware that just because the CPU is Intel and socket is Intel doesn't mean the CPU is automatically compatible.

Notebook CPU upgrades are largely a hit-and-miss affair. In addition to the chipset and socket compatibility, you have to deal with a custom BIOS particular to the machine. You might want to check out >>this K50IN CPU upgrade thread<< Both the 9700 and 9900 are 1066MHz FSB (QDR), so theoretically there is little between them. Before swapping out make sure that the BIOS is updated (see the link in the last post in the thread).

Good luck.

After reading lot of issues in net for last two days, I upgraded all ASUS software and drivers from ASUS support site first. Specially Express cache software needs to be upgraded before upgrading to 8.1 as per ASUS site.
Then I started early morning to update as to avoid rush in downloading. I followed procedures available elsewhere to start update from MS stores.
It took 15 minutes to download and another 15 minutes for setting before first reboot. During this install program said about adding language support after install only is possible and asked whether want to continue or stop. I opted continue.
It did 7 times reboot and in that 3 times showed percentage progress like setting up, setting pc settings and setting a few more things. From first reboot to final, it took 60 minutes. Total duration 90 minutes.
Previously installed start8 button was not working.Needed to remove install other start8 button program.
Shortcut arrows was removed by me using regedit. That I had to do it again.
It has not allowed use of gadgets already installed. uninstalled and used other from this site

I recieved an interesting challenge from my Boss today. She gave me her daughter's netbook which is an ASUS (I think it is the first or close to first ever made) and is extremely limited in specs...check this out

Celeron M Processor (900MHZ...)
1GB RAM(667MHZ I think...)
8GB SSD(It might be an SSD but 8GB and it happens to be in an IDE-only configuration...)
Intel 915 Int-GPU (Intel GPU, enough said...)

That is the relevant specs...I am wondering if installing Windows 7 will be possible

Ultimate?...NO NO NO
Professional?...NO NO
Home Premium?...NO
Home Basic...Maybe...

I have also heard reports that you can't activate Home Basic in the US. Before someone says to slap XP on it and let it go...her daughter despises XP and loves Windows 7 which led my boss to get me to attempt to install 7 on it. I think the biggest limiting factor here is HD space but I think Home Basic could fit on it...

Tell me what you guys think

Memory Module : A-Data 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-10700U DDR3-1334 (9-9-9-25 4-34-10-5)
Memory Module : A-Data 2GB DIMM DDR3 PC3-10700U DDR3-1334 (9-9-9-25 4-34-10-5)

My mobo is: ASUS M4N68T
Is it safe to add 8gb more RAM? I have 4 RAM slots, two are occupied by 2x 2gb as mentioned above.

I'm thinking about adding two of these:
A-Data 4GB (1x4096MB) CL9 1333Mhz

Kapacitet 4 GB Hastighet 1333 MHz Minneshastighet 1333 MHz Formfaktor 240-pin DIMM Sp?nning 1,5V
I don't understand much of it, and sadly it's in swedish. the product number is: AD3U1333C4G9-B

A:Newbie upgrading my computer, What Ram to use to ASUS M4N68T

You would probably be better off just removing what you have and replace it with a 8GB thats 2 modules. A 2x4GB Kit.

Essentially, you want to keep it in matching pairs of 2 since its a dual channel board. I would not use 3 modules.

But, in regards to upgrading, what exactlly are you trying to accomplish and why?
Going from 4-8GB may not help you at all, and if it does it may not help much at all unless you have need for it. I mean, if you really have need for it it will be helpful but ....

If the purpose is to speed up your computer, Im sorry to say you will likely be disappointed.

Hi, Just ugraded my customers Z440 with a factory overclocked ASUS GTX 980 4GB Graphic Card. After a minute with intence decoding the computer shuts dowh with an alarm. The specification of the GPU says it need 300w of power. The Z440 with 700w PS specification says it supports up to 225w of power to the Graphic card. The failur alarm is because the GPU doesnt get enough power? Is it possible to ugrade the PS, if so what PS should I go for? Regards Johan

A:Problem after upgrading Z440 with ASUS GTX 980 OC card

Greetings, Corsair and Seasonic produce good power supplies. Two items to consider are the current power supply dimensions and 12V rail power deliverd by the new power supply. You should have many options to choose from when upgrading the current power supply. The only gotcha would be if HP uses a proprietary motherboard or internal device connection for which there is no adapter. I am not familiar with the internals of the Z440 workstation. Cheers!

Raging with ASUS. Will post my rant/comms with them further down.

I believe this is a known issue and those tards at ASUS are trying to get me to send my laptop to them for some additional ?'s.

Anyway I have a notebook that does not have a cd/dvd drive ..... they sold this as a beneficial feature ..... a-holes lol .... now all I see it as is them increasing the profit margin i.e. same price less hardwire.

So the daughter laptop has been getting a wee bit slow and I thought a wee spring clean would sort it out ... used to do it on my old desktops. Back up personal files, slap in a recovery disc ..... PC back to new. Was sold this on the premise the recovery process was far superior these days and part of the laptops infrastructure:
"you don't need to mess with a disc"
"no need for registrations and remember codes etc"

Seemed like a good idea ..... pafff!

So I use the method in the manual that advises you to "reboot and hit F9" and it kept coming up with an error. I noted in another thread that this feature is crippled when you update your windows version from 8.0 to 8.1.

Can you please help me get this sorted as its bloody frustrating and I feel like they are just flipping me the bird and not exploring some sensible solutions.

A:ASUS Refresh/ Reset issue since upgrading from Windows 8.1

Patrick,
If you had taken the time consider this properly you would have, at least, read the title and familiarized yourself with the product first rather than a off hand response. The Notebook X501A does not come with a CD/DVD drive. This was actually part of the selling features "no cumbersome drives", "any laptop issues just reset it". In the past I have always had a recovery disc but on the sales pitch from Curry's and assuming ASUS knew what they were doing I proceeded and bought this item.
Now instead of looking to resolve this issue either working with windows for a patch or at least provide a download file to put on a USB stick you hit people with "pay us to fix, otherwise, go speak to someone who gives a [email protected]". Note this is NOT my fault and is between ASUS and Microsoft.
I am probably not the first that has had to come in here and be met with a total lack of customer care so I would like this to be escalated.

Dear Mr K,
Thank you for contacting ASUS. There was indeed a bug in the Windows 8.1 software update which can corrupt the recovery partition. This bug has affected more manufacturers.
However, if you did not create your own recovery media when you purchased the notebook as advised, there is also a prompt up message reminding you to create recovery media and taking in consideration your unit is now out of warranty, we can only advise of the following;

My current specs...

CPU: P4 2.6c
MOBO: ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
RAM: OCZ 512MB [2x256] Dual Channel Kit ... OCZ400512ELDC-K [rated @ 2-2-3-6] [slots 1 and 3] [PC3200 DDR400]
HDD1: MAXTOR S-ATA 120GB w/8MB Cache
HDD2: MAXTOR S-ATA 300GB w/16MB Cache

I was thinking of adding the OCZ 1024MB [2x512] Dual Channel Kit ... OCZ4001024ELDC-K [rated @ 2-2-3-6] [slots 2 and 4] [PC3200 DDR400].

Some told me it would be ok to do so since all modules are same performance/type. While others, including OCZ themselves, recommended not to, mainly due to some stability issues resulting from having more than 2 high performance modules installed.

I may end up trying all four slots as stated above and see how it goes, if there is problems would probably just take out the original 512 kit and try to sell it leaving me with just the 1024 kit.

Would like some input from the experts here and hopefully learn what my best options are in terms of improving performance.

Cheers!

p.s. No plans for overclocking as of yet, stock cooling all around

I bought a Lenov Ideapad 510 15IKB on 14th April 2017. Now I'm facing 2 issues with the warranty registration and warranty upgrade: Issue#1On April 16th I registered the base warranty of my product as it should start from the purchase date of my product. After few email conversations for purchase proof, finally on 3rd May, I received email confirming the base warranty registration of my product. It was starting from 14th April 2017 and ending on 13th April 2018. I checked the same on lenovo website. But few days back when I again checked the warranty status, it was restored to factory warranty (15 Oct 2016 - 13 nov 2017). I don't know why this happened and how this happened. When I contacted lenovo, they said that warranty is updated in their database but how can I beleive when I can't see this on warranty lookup section of the Lenovo official website. I have also attached the screen shot of warranty lookup page as of today (22 June 2017). Issue#2I registered for 2 year warranty extension under Back To School offer (Ticket Number - ADP-BTS-025399) on www.buyalenovo.com and made a payment of INR 999/- on 6th May 2017. On 10th May, i received an email confirming the receipt of payment and in the same email, it was mentioned that warranty certificate will be mailed to me within 7 bussiness day, but till the date I've not received any warranty certificate, I've sent so many emails in last one week, but I didn't receive any reply to any email. I tried to reach the A... Read more

We have a case whereby the base warranty was expired end of 2017 (S200 MT10HQ) , but we have the invoice of june 2018.Now the service partner says, sorry no warranty as it have been expired, the warranty does not start from the end users date of purchase. Is there an warranty law for this in the EU or with Lenovo? We had similar cases with HP probooks which all was excepted with the date of invoice and not base warranty.

A:End user warranty starts from Base warranty or end users date of purchase?

Hi,

Warranty starts with date of purchase.  You just have to register with Lenovo that you have wrong start date.  I had to do same thing with my niece's laptop.  See below website.  I just had to upload the purchase receipt to get the warranty start date corrected.  Hope the below helps.
