My internet explorer displays pages strangely - can't really describe - check out the attached photo. Anyone know how to fix this? If I use another web browser the page is displayed correctly.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello johnksc,I see that you have posted a Hijackthis log here and that you are in the process of receiving help. You should refrain from asking for help from others while you are being instructed by the HJT Team, helping you with a Hijackthis Log. Any modifications you make can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the Helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. If you still need assistance after your log has been reviewed and you have been cleared, please start a new topic. If you have any questions, please PM me or another moderator and we will re-open this topic.

I use XP home and IE has gone wrong lately. It never seems to load a page first time and is very slow. I normally get a 404 error page or "parameter incorrect" or if its a forum I sometimes get a maintainance being carried out page the first time I open a new page. I have to refresh (sometimes several times) before it loads the page properly. It shouldn't be giving these errors as they aren't true.

I have done everything I can think of. Full error check, virus check with Norton and latest updates. I have also cleared out cookies and temp internet files, cleaned registry and cache. I have also run spyware removal programs spy bot and ad-aware. I have also re-installed IE but nothing seems to have worked. It is this version of IE 6.2.2800.1106xpsp2.030422-1633

Also, When I type an email in hotmail, or enter something in google, or type a post for a forum it sometimes randomly converts some of what I wrote to random code. This also happened just now when I clicked a link in ebay, this page came up...

I'm currently running Firefox (found it was faster than IE). I have Yahoo set as home page. For a couple months now, after booting up, before I even try to connect to Internet, I get a box from Windows Explorer that says,
"Windows Internet Explorer cannot find 'file:///' make sure the path or Internet address is correct".
I haven't even tried to go anywhere on the Internet yet and haven't used IE for about 6 months. I click "ok" and the box goes away. This is frustrating, as I have to stand there and wait for box to come up every time I turn my computer on. Anyone out there know what this is and how to get rid of it? Thanks!

I am using Windows Vista Premium and Internet Explorer 7. While surfing the web once in a while I will come accross a webpage that shows up in a very strange script like text that I can't read. This doesn't happen on most web pages. And other computers display the text perfectly fine. I don't know how to discribe it so I included a picture. My only wildest guess is that one of my system fonts got messed up, but I don't know which one. Any help would be very appreciated.

I am able to connect (Freeserve broadband connection) and have performed a number of tests under the guidance of Freeserve technical support - (LOL @ their technical support!!) which have shown that I should be able to access the sites I want to - something to do with sending & receiving packets successfully. I was advised that there must be a problem with Internet Explorer. Has anyone else experienced similar problems or can anyone advise me on what I should do? Would uninstalling IE6 and reinstalling it help - if so how do i do it. Thanks

Just as a note: I work in Tech Support and am familiar with viruses, spyware, etc. I regularly use appropriate antivirus/spyware software and regularly use HiJack This to scan for unusual activity.

PROBLEM: When a user navigates to a specifc web site instead of the page loading up correctly she is only given a prompt to save or run. This only happens with a specific URL and does not happen from other computers in the office. The website does not contain any viruses and there do not appear to be any viruses or spyware on the computer that is trying to access the site.

Like I said before, this has happened to one of my personal computers in the past and I could not figure out why. It doesn't matter whether you type the URL from the command prompt or enter the DNS name or IP address directly into the browser. It's almost as if there is some screwed up file association somewhere with this specific site only. Clearing cookies and cache and reseting IE settings have no effect. Unfortunately, user is unable to install another browser instead of Internet Explorer.

Anyone have any ideas what may be causing this?
Regards,

Rollin

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Hello, New to the forum and seeking help. I tried searching everywhere for help with this, but could not find anything. I will try to be as brief and include as much info as I can. I run windows XP SP2. I believe I clicked on a bad link and became infected with some kind of virus. My AVG popped up a "threat detected" warning, and I paniced and shut down the computer as fast as I could. When I restarted, I saw that my Internet explorer icon, as well as every icon on my desktop that uses IE to open, had turned white with what looks like the MS-DOS page with the 3 little colored icons. When I double click IE, the only thing it does is instantly adds another IE icon on my desktop? No hour glass or anything. It just keeps adding Icons. I have no pop ups, nothing running in the tray, no ads asking me to purchase anything. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I've used this site in the past to successfully rid my system from the normal spy/adware problems, but this a new one. I ran a full scan with my AVG, but it did not find anything. I also ran MBAM in normal, and safe mode and it also did not find anything.
I hope I included enough info for someone to help me. If anyone has any advice or suggestions, i'd be greatly appreciative. Thank you, Neil.

Ok, I'm relatively new at the whole computer thing and I know, "What took you so long?"

I have Windows XP but just recently, when I try to open Internet Explorer, it may take a few attempts before it opens.(ya' know the hourglass expires before anything happens) However, when I log off, ending program task panel opens, then ending program iexplore.exe opens and keeps opening for the amount of times I tried to open internet explorer.
This leads me to believe that it in fact opened somewhere but not anywhere I can see it. Also on occasion, the task panel will turn blue for quite sometime when I close out an open window.
I tried searching for an answer to this problem but to no avail, so any advice here would be most appreciated.

HI, I have a notebook with Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit english version.Afterthat, I installed Internet Explorer 9 English version, a strange icon appear on my desktop.
It works normally (it opens up IE9)
However, if I right click this icon, it shows me some simplified chinese chracters.

I can't delete this icon.

This may be the cause:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}

However, it stops me from deleting or making any changes to it.
It just shows me some error messages like 'can't edit registry key'...
What could I do?

This error actually appeared after I install Internet Explorer 9 Beta Version a few monthes ago. It still exists after i upgraded to stable version.

It shows me an error message after I attempted to move that strange icon.It shows me: Error 0x80004001 Not implemented
and it asks me to use that error code to find solutions.

My internet is fine, it connects to sites well, but there is just one odd problem that I have had for a while now, and it bothers me.

There are a few sites where if I try to access them, it takes a VERY long time to load. Considering I have DSL, and that my internet is generally great with other sites, this just should not be happening. These sites can take over 2 minutes to load, and the sites are not astronomically large or anything; it just takes such a long time to load!

Maybe it would help to get into detail on some of the websites that do this, but the ones I can remember for now:
addictinggames.com
acronymfinder.com (only when I'm searching for an acronym)
miniclip.com (only when I start to play a game, but still, it should NOT take nearly as long as it does)
news.google.com (most of the links there)

There are others, but those are just ones coming off the top of my head. Please help if possible, I have no clue why certain sites take such a long time to load. I know probably everyone is thinking "because they're game websites", but really, I compare the speed of this to my Windows XP laptop, and they go at exactly the same rate with every website, with exception to the ones displayed above.

EDIT: It says I'm a WinXP user, but this computer is actually older, Windows ME. In case that helps, wanted to point that out.

A:Strange Internet Problem (Explorer, Mozilla, all of em)

Is KIS installed at all? If so, make sure it's completely removed. Read this for removal instructions.

If it still doesn't work, use the free Revo Uninstaller.

1. Download and install the software.
2. Run the software and it will display all the programs installed in your PC.
3. Select Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 and right click on the program's icon.
4. Select Uninstall and you will be redirected into step-by-step wizard to remove the software.

If still no luck, try a System Restore.

Hi. Thought this problem was solved a few weeks ago but guess not. Simply put, there are three strange problems with IE on my computer:

1. Opening IE takes forever and a day.

2. Can open Hotmail and Yahoo Mail, however opening Gmail, I can get onto the welcome page, then input my ID and password (sidebar: I get Gmail in Korean and not English. Any way to change this?). Gmail then informs me it is "loading" but 95% of the time, freezes IE totally. This only happens on this computer.

3. Can open Techguy and go all the way to forums, however in trying to open a thread, my IE refuses to open any thread and says unable to open. Writing this from another notebook here. Why would this be?

Have looked at Hijack This!, run Panda, EasyCleaner, Adaware, Spybot, Norton Antivirus. Can't seem to find the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I'm having this problem for a long time and I don't know what it is and whats causing it and it's not just Internet Explorer, but Firefox as well and any other browser that I can think of.

If I open IE and close it and open Task Manager it shows me that I have IE opened, even if I closed it; I open IE again and after that close it, and shows me in TM that a new IE task appeared, and goes on and on and on. Every time I open an internet browser it show that I opened it twice but when closing it, remains on

Nothing on my taskbar but in TM it shows that I have IE opened 5 times

Can someone help me please, I hate closing each one all the time but I have to, PC slows down

About 47 of these windows open up when trying to go to certain websites,
when running Network Diagnostics for Windows XP, and when I insert my Cruzer U3 Smart Dive into my computer. The only way to close them is to click the X in the top right corner. Selecting Yes or No does nothing.

This Window is behind the 47 others and also selecting OK or Show Details>> does absolutely nothing. It can only be closed by clicking the X. I cannot get these windows to stop popping up. Wondering if there might be a virus that the anti-virus (Norton) im running isn't finding. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Strange Internet Explorer Script Error

Also, when trying to open/scan with Norton anti-virus, the first window (the one that opens about 47 time) pops up and when I finish closing all the windows more pop up. This process never ends and Norton never even starts to open/scan. Please, any help will be appreciated.

Recently I've been having trouble closing Internet Explorer successfully. Oftentimes I'll get a very suspicious error window that says "closing this window may cause serious problems." Generally when that happens I'll end the process via Task Manager rather than clicking on anything on the error window. I'm a bit paranoid that I may be infected with a key-logger of some type and I'd very much like to keep my online accounts secured. Once I've gotten the all clear from you guys I plan on creating new strong passwords for all my accounts. It seems like I haven't seen the problem since installing the latest Windows Updates recently (including the latest malware removal tool) but I thought I'd ask the pros just to be safe rather than sorry.  We have a very strange issue occurring with IE 11. This is happening domain wide on many Windows 7 desktops and is mind boggling.

We have a desktop shortcut that was pushed out via group policy preferences originally, it opens an URL in IE for ADP.

When a user first logs in, and clicks the shortcut, it opens the page in IE. IE will close automatically within a minute, every time. If we re-open the shortcut, IE shows that the last session ended unexpectedly, but the second time around it will not crash,
IE stays open for good. This only happens after first logon. this happens for all users, even administrators.

I have also confirmed it happens for any desktop shortcut that opens IE, regardless of the page it opens, including a shortcut to google.com for example.

I have enabled Internet Explorer logging in event viewer but it only shows events 1047, 1021, with no information "the description for Event ID 1047 from source Internet Explorer cannot be found". there is nothing in the application or system logs
either.

I have tried also creating a new OU in AD, adding the computer and user to the OU, and blocked inheritance to rule group policy out of the picture, the issue still occurs. Even if I manually create a shortcut on the C:\users\username\desktop, or on public
desktop. these are local profiles, not roaming.

Also, if I log in and open IE, then navigate to any webpage, IE does not close automatically. It on... Read more

I hope someone can help me work this out, it's driving me crazy!
I'll try to explain it in as few words as possible!
There is a website we need to access on which we're having trouble getting some of the buttons to display.  In short it works when the internet zone is set to "Medium" but not when it's "Medium-High" (I have added it to trusted sites
but in properties it shows as "Unknown Zone (Mixed)" so seems to use the "Internet Zone" settings.)
I am trying to track down which security setting is causing the issue.  To do this my plan was to make a note of all the settings that differ between Medium and Medium-High.  However if I set it to medium-high and manually change all the settings
to be identical to medium it still doesn't work... yet if I use the "Reset to: Medium" option at the bottom it does work!  This doesn't make any sense to me.
Are there other hidden stetting affected by the "Reset to" option that I can't change manually.
Any help would really be appreciated!  Thanks!

Hello. I have a weird problem that doesn't seem very critical, but is really starting to bug me! I have a brand-spanking-new computer from Dell (Dimension 9100) with Windows XP. When I got the computer, there were no problems but this problem started about a month later.

There seems to be a delay of about 15-20 seconds every time I do the following two things:
i) Double-click on "My Computer" and wait for the contents to show
ii) Type a URL in the "Address" field in Internet Explorer WITHOUT the "http://" and hit [Enter]

As you might know, if you don't include the "http://", IE should search for what address you really meant and put the http:// in automatically. For me, the computer doesn't bother starting to do this until a 15-20 second delay is up. WEIRD EH?

My best guess is that my CD-ROM drive is causing the problem (Combo Drive DVD/CD-RW). Perhaps my computer takes a long time checking the CD drive before it bothers searching the rest of the computer. I don't know how to stop this, since it didn't do this before, and started doing it now spontaneously.

If anyone has any suggestions I would REALLY appreciate it. THANKS!!!

A:Strange delay at "My Computer" or Internet Explorer

I cant see how your opticald rive would be causing a delay in finding an address thru IE. have you checked hte device manager to see if their are any devices showing as havng a problem?

the delay with my computer sounds more like a file system problem you can run system file checker with your XP disk in the drive to check for damaged or missing system files. put the XP disk in your optical drive and open a command prompt, type sfc /scannow

another possibility is a virus or a trojan are your virus definitions up to date?

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!!

But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.

I am using internet Explorer 11 to access the www.nemsis.org site and when I go to access http://www.nemsis.org/media/CustomElementLibrary/ .

I get the error message below:

I can use Chrome just fine to access the page. I have a coworker who can access just it just fine and he is using Internet Explorer 11 and was also able to access on Firefox. Is there something I am missing to access it? The page should display a map.

Thank you in advanced.

Answered my own question. Apparently if I place a check in the "Use Microsofts Compatibility list and uncheck the "Displa intranet sites in Compatibility View" it works.
