Script to change power settings

Q: Script to change power settings

I am attempting to temporarily disable hibernate and make sure the monitor doesn't go off while I am running a script to complete system configuration.

control powercfg.cpl -monitor-timeout-ac 30
control powercfg.cpl -monitor-timeout-dc 30
control powercfg.cpl /hibernate off
I believe the code above should work, but what's happening is the control panel applet for power settings is launching when this script runs.

Can someone help me make this so that:
The control panel applet doesn't launch
The settings are only made for the current logged on user

I also would appreciate knowing how to revert the setting changes I made at the end of my script

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Script to change power settings

Well you are calling on the .cpl so it is going to open.
Have you tried using the old powercfg.exe method instead?
I don't believe it opens a window on execution
Just go into command window and type powercfg.exe /?
for the list of switches for it.

Hey all, have a question about writing some piece of code that would allow me to double click something on the desktop that would quickly change my sound output settings from Realtek AC97 Audio to UAC3553B, and back the other way when I click it again. I frequently switch over my audio basically from my PC speakers to my USB Stereo, and am just trying to find a faster way to do this without having to manually open my control panel settings each time. I don't have any previous scripting experience in windows (I do, however, have extensive VBA programming experience in Excel!), so any help is MUCH appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

would it be possible to change proxy setting by windows script..?

Hi all,

I'm in need of an example script that i can change accordingly to my working environment.

I'm currently working at four different locations and move my laptop around with me all of the time. The problem is that in each of my locations i require a different proxy address and port or when at home, none. I'm now fed up with opening up internet explorer and changing the settings manually each time i move location.

Whether this is possible or not i am unsure but what i would like to achieve is four icons on my desktop each called the working location ie home.vbs workplaceone.vbs and so on. I would then be able to double click on these and that would invoke a change to my proxy settings inside IE.

So for each of my work places i would need the following two boxes checked,

'Use a proxy server for your LAN (these settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN Connections)'
'Bypass proxy server for local addresses'
I Would then need to enter my proxy address and port number.

The home settings would need to remove both of the above boxes.

Does anyone have any example scripts i could manipulate accordingly?

Thanking in advanced,

Hello, we are running a 2012 server. We are on a domain. We recently received notification that advanced settings in IE need to be updated specifically in order to use their website. And something to do with a SSL. Is there a way to change all IE settings on all of the computers connected to our network/domain so that I do not have to manually go to 300 computers? I haven't ever written a script but I am sure if explained, I could do so. There just has to be a way to mass change settings without physically going to each and every machine, right?

Or would this be along the lines of a GPO? Again, not something that I am familiar with so any information would be great!

A:Can a script be written to change all IE settings across a network?

I have no idea but the settings in question are posted here,
IE 11 'This page can't be displayed... Turn on TLS 1.0...'

Sounds like your using ie11 and windows updates should take care of disabling ssl's on each machine for you

Morning, afternoon and or evening ladies and gentlemen.

Glad to be a part of the forums.

As the title of the thread implies, I would like some help in creating a script or scripts to change a few settings in windows instantaneously with a single keystroke, command or perhaps using specific program.

To elaborate, I am running my main monitor for my rig at my computer desk, and also have an additional 42'' HDTV at the end of my bed which is connected to my PC via a HDMI cable. After work for instance, if i'm not in the mood to game at my desk, I like to lay in bed with a wireless keyboard and mouse and chill out. However, what annoys me about this is that when I use this TV, to be able to see the screen properly I must change the resolution to 1280 x 800, also I have to change my sound output to the TV, and lastly I have to crank up the track speed of the built in track pad on my wireless keyboard or else it's really really slow and frustrating.

Essentially, what I want to know is, is there a way that I can set up a script or use some sort of program that will allow me to change all of these setting instantaneously with the press of a key? Is this possible?

Would appreciate some help on this, thank you in advance.

Was wondering if anyone can help us solve a logon issue?

Our corporate logon script written in VBScript is designed to write Internet Proxy values to the users HKCU registry hive depending on the physical location of the PC being logged into. We have a number of users that travel between offices and the logon script is not able to write these registry key values to the registry like it does on everyone else in the company.

Today while one of these users was in we replaced his NTUSER.DAT file to rule out the profile but this solved nothing. We then cloned a new account from his existing account. Dispite the fact that the old account always fails, the new account worked flawlessly. Same groups same access, etc. The only differences that we can come up with is the fact that the old logonid has SID history carried over from when his account was migrated from their legacy NT domain to our new Active Directory domain. If I'm not mistaken the SID history would not carry over to the clone even though the permissions did.

So, what I would like to understand is why the new account works great and the old one fails? If it does happen to have something to do with SID history what is it that is causing the regwrites to fail and how would one fix this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Logon script cannot change HKCU settings in registry

Hi wchull, my bet is that you have enabled FolderRedirection for the first account - probably with a GPO. This is a known problem when applying IE proxy settings. First get your user to LOGOFF then LOGON (NOT ShutDown>Restart) do the new settings then appear? GPOs applied to the user won't make it to the Registry hive unless you give the User time to instantiate and later save the results, so when they do appear a second LOGOFF will save them to the profile.

Are you using roaming profiles?

Hi everyone, thanks for looking.
Im running into a particular problem that I cant seem to find the reasons or the settings.

I watch HBO GO (i have a valid subscription) on my Windows 7 Home laptop and use an HDMI cable to connect my TV.

Scenerio 1:
If I leave the close the lid power option on hibernate, I must leave the laptop open and, when I connect the HDMI the TV, it becomes my monitor and I view as the monitor and watch anything full screen no problem.

Scenerio 2:
I change the power option on the lid close to "do nothing". When the HDMI cable is hooked up, if the laptop is open it uses the laptop display, if its closed it displays through the HDMI/TV. This is perfect and exactly what I want.
I can watch as the monitor no problem HOWEVER, if I choose full screen, I get gray borders and the "Full Screen" is not full and just centered.

I can not for the life of me figure out why and Im going crazy.
Does anyone know why the power option would have an effect on this and what settings I could change?

Many Thanks in Advance!!!

A:External display settings change when Power options change?

Check to see what resolution your laptop's display is at, what the external TV resolution is when you connect it to your laptop, and MAYBE what resolution the videos you're watching are. This just sounds like a resolution issue. If the TV is at a larger resolution than your laptop's resolution, change the TV's resolution to the size your laptop is at. Then try watching a video to see what happens. Hope this helps.

What I am trying to do is find or create a script or batch file that changes the "When I press the power button on my computer" option - to always be set to Shut down - this is under the Power Options Properties Advanced tab.

What we are looking to do is push out this to several laptops to ensure when the power button is pushed it shuts down and does not go into standby.

My question is does anyone know of a script or registry edit that I can do to accomplish this as the company is running Server 2003 which does not offer a group policy setting or template and powercfg does not have this option.

I've read that I can use a program like regshot to look for the changes in the registry but it appears that the system when changing between "standby" and "shutdown" changes some binary and hexidecimal settings all of which I would like to try to avoid editing if possible.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Prior to my reinstalletion I did not have to do this--clicking on any drive would pop up a window immediately. That this is how I prevent my disk from going to sleep/turning off? by setting it at 0 or 999 minutes. Assuming not then how do I do so. Assuming yes, then is there a way to do so only for one HD? I have 4 (where my OS sits and 3 others). There is a software which often changes the proxy settings so I decided to config the internet settings registry right to reject the proxy settings. But When I decided to delete this software and return the rights back, I suddenly found that I can not change
the proxy settings manually!
The detail is that I change the auto proxy url, to let my pc use a pac file and I don't want any softwares to change. However, when I decided to give the rights back and try to change the url back, it never success, and even the same when i'm sure I have
cleared this url in the whole registry, but it back, as it never changes!
I check the registry rights twice or more to make sure that the rights has given back, just like it originally should be. But it never works.
So the result is I have to clear and reinstall the WINDOWS 10 AGAIN!
Never should you save such information both in registry and somewhere I don't know! Or you should let these stuffs out of the ** registry!

A:Is it possible to script frequent changes to monitor/sound settings?

I would like to know this, as well, specifically changing what output the sound goes to.

I currently have JBL Pebble speakers connected through USB, and also an HDMI cable from my video card to the TV, and an optical cable from the motherboard to my receiver.

Most of the time I just use the Pebble speakers for sound. But every now and then I want BIGGER sound in the living room and would like to send the sound to the surround sound amplifier. Also on some occasions I use the TV for viewing online content when my TV or Blu-Ray smart apps just won't get the job done.

I have a Harmony 650 remote that I use for the amp and TV to get them on the correct inputs for whether I just want sound from the PC, or both sound and video. But I then have to go into "Playback Devices" and change what output is the "default" to get the sound out of either the Pebble speakers, or my amp and surround sound speakers.

Is there not an easier way to accomplish this besides having to change the "default" setting every time?

Can you also provide me with VBS script so I can use group policy to apply the changes? Powershell will work in SCCM task sequence but doesn't work in group policy because of evaluation issues. Here is the script I came up with:   param(
$settings = Get-Content $config
foreach($setting in $settings)
$run = "$setting,$password,ascii,us"
$Response = (gwmi -class Lenovo_SetBiosSetting -namespace root\wmi).SetBiosSetting("$run").return
write-output ("$setting`n$Response")
if($Response="Access Denied")
$Response = (gwmi -class Lenovo_SaveBiosSettings -namespace root\wmi).SaveBiosSettings("$password,ascii,us").return
write-output ("$setting`n$Response")

}Powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy bypass -file "\\mdt\deploymentshare$\Scripts\Westmount\BIOS Update\powershell.ps1" -password h3cabozihctymage -config "\\mdt\deploymentshare$\Scripts\Westmount\BIOS Update\Lenovo Bios Setting.txt" The  script works but not with second password.  Is it possible you can help me out here? I have very... Read more

I need a way to quickly set my internet options/connections/LAN settings. Our LAN security settings set my connection tab to "grey out" all entry options. I have a .REG file that I just double click on and it makes the settings in the connection tab available. Then I always have to go in to the settings to check "Automatically detect settings" to on and "Use automatic configuration script" to on and then type "http://xxx.xx.xx.xx/proxy.pac" for the Address.
Can these settings be made through a .REG file like my other one? It was created with Xteq Systems X-Setup. Or is there another way to script the change so I can just double click on something and it goes in the background to set things up? Are these settings stored in the registry or not?
Any help would be appreciated. As well, if this question belongs in a different forum please suggest where it should go. Thanks.

I am having a problem with savings settings on a Dell TrueMobile 1184 router. I log into the router via Internet Explorer, using the URL http://my.router. When I attempt to change the advanced settings and then click on the [submit] button, I get a script error, which reads http://my.router/cgi-bin/sysconf.cgi?* (* being the name of the specific command I am trying to use).

Dell has not helped and states specifically that they offer no tech support for advanced settings in their routers. Their tech support has been sliding downhill over the last several years, but that's another issue.

I'm running WinXP Pro with SP2, Outpost firewall (I have the Windows firewall disabled). I suspect this may be a SP2 issue, but I can't figure it out.

Any help or solutions that anyone can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Did these commands use to work correctly, then somewhat recently stop working? Or have they never worked? Have you attempted to configure the router with no firewalls active on your PC? Can you configure the router via command line?
