I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I purchased an external monitor on Friday.  It worked on Friday and Saturday. Sunday when I booted up, the external monitor no longer worked. The history appears to show an automatic update occurred overnight.  I was running Windows 8.1.  I upgraded to 10.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the intel video driver, I reinstalled the chipset driver.  I have trimmed the micro HDMI cord as suggested in one of the posts.  I have seen enough posts on the various boards to know my issue does not seem to be an isolated case... but I haven't been able to find an explanation of the cause or a reliable solution.  Any help is appreciated.

I bought an external Viewsonic monitor, VX2835wm 27". I also have an HDMI

even though it works fine with a regular VGA cable.

I have 1920x1200 resolution (max) and 60Hz refresh rate. I don't know why its not
working well on my Belkin HDMI cable. Its fully plugged into and I selected HDMI
as input option in the monitor's panel. Strange thing is, auto adjust is disabled in HDMI

Can someone explain?

hi.
i've got these 360 video stitching boxes that send out prestitched 4K H.264 mp4 video over HDMI 2.0.
i need to be able to record those HDMI streams in 4K.
the cheapest external recorder box that i can find that records 4K is the Atomos Ninja.
but it's over $1000.
part of the reason for that is that it can record in Prores and so on, and needs a more robust data transfer record rate than i actually need with an H.264 stream.
even in 4K (4096x216).
i'm looking for a cheaper solution than getting 3 Atomos or Black Magic recorder boxes.
i'd ideally like to just record to an external HD or fast SD card.
but it has to be independent of the USB pipeline on my laptop, since that is busy with the 360 video stuff.
i need something that goes direct from the HDMI port of the stitching box to the recorder without having to go through the computer.
multiple interfaces and boxes to make it work would be ok.

does anyone know of a cheaper solution than a high end 4K recorder that will just handle 4K mp4 video?

thanks,

randy

I have a Lenovo G50 running Win8 32bit. I have two external monitors both Asus with VGA ports. I successfully configured one of the monitors to the VGA port. However I have not been able to successfully get my 2nd external monitor connected using the HDMI port. I have a VGA to HDMI adapter for the monitor but it's not working. To rule out any issue with the 2nd monitor, I was able to get it to work by disconnecting the VGA cable from the first monitor and connecting it to the 2nd monitor. But again, no luck using the HDMI port with a VGA to HDMI adapter. So I'm fresh out of ideas. Had anyone been able to resolve this successfully with this setup? And if so, how? Thanks in advance! Leslie

A:Laptop connecting to an external Monitor via HDMI

It shouldn't. Does the problem occur during bootup, or while in use?

Also, if it occurs after letting the PC sleep or hibernation, it could be a hardware or OS/software issue.

I have Lenovo B540 All-In-One (Windows 8) whose monitor is cracked and the screen is black. I'm trying to still use the computer or at least access the hard drive by attaching a second monitor through the HDMI Out connect slot in the back. So I purchased the "DVI-D to HDMI (or vice versa)" cable (Dynex brand) for $40 from BestBuy and made the connection to my DVI monitor.

Well, Lenovo turns on but is not recognizing the second monitor! Should it automatically recognize the second monitor or are there some steps involved like pressing down on certain function keys (like you would in laptops)? I've perused Lenovo's hardware support manual but they don't explain proper steps.

Does anyone know what the proper steps are when the original monitor is not working? I know for sure the computer itself is working; it's making all the right Windows start-up noise. No, the computer is not passworded so it should go in straight.

Would it be easier to connect to the TV via HDMI? Would I then need HDMI cables?

Thanks everyone for any suggestions you might have to offer.

Hi! Please help!

This was working fine before I had to format my computer. I'm about six hours deep in this it's killing me. I'll provide you with any info I can, but I'm far from knowledgeable about this kind of thing.

The problem:
My second display is recognized by my computer, but it receives no signal, showing a blank screen with no sound.

My setup:
Windows 7 64bit. I have a monitor as a main display and a TV connected as an extended display. The monitor is connected via DVI. The TV is connected via HDMI. The TV is a PDP-R04. My graphics card is an AMD Radeon R9 270X using the latest drivers (14.501.1003.0). The cable works tested on other devices with the same TV. The TV works. The source settings on the TV are correct.

Things I've tried:
- rolling back to previous display drivers
- uninstalling display drivers in safe mode and re-updating
- resetting CMOS to defaults
- booting computer with only the TV plugged in
- changing the TV's resolution settings
- crying

I have GT220 & the external Dell S2240L screen.

Both HDMI & VGA have same image quality in terms of text sharpness & almost same colors.

but, the HDMI looks brighter, dryer with more contrast & just worse than VGA. I have tried all screen presets, tried all brightness/contrast screen settings, still looks bad. I tried all 3 RGB channels & each one individual in NVIDIA control panel, but all that does is change the colors. The actual contrast is just bad on HDMI.

Do you think its just my GPU or screen? I was hoping to upgrade to a HD7970 soon, but that doesn't have analogue & might look the same.

Hi,
Before I wander off to buy a MiniDisplayPort to HDMI adapter and an HDMI adapter:Can someone first-hand confirm or disconfirm if the OptiPlex 9030 can be used as an external/second monitor via the HDMI IN (for my MacBook Pro/in general)?
According to ZDNet (on the 9030) it is possible:
"...plug in an external video source (via HDMI)..."
www.zdnet.com/product/dell-optiplex-9030/
According to this forum (but on the 9010) it is not possible:
"...I would like to inform you that both VGA and HDMI ports on the system are TV out connection... you won't be able to use this system as display only for a different system or laptop...."
en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19508673
Is it that the 9010 does not have HDMI IN and the 9030 does have HDMI IN (and hence the 9030) does work as an external monitor?
Thank you in advance for your help!

A:Can I Use the OptiPlex 9030 as an (External) Monitor via HDMI IN?

The setup guide shows you have one 19-pin HDMI-input port (#11) on back of the monitor so you should be able to connect an external video source, assuming the source puts out a compatible HDMI signal.
You may need to use the On-Screen Display (OSD) buttons (#6) to configure the display to accept the signal from the HDMI-input. The setup guide doesn't list the OSD options so you may have to figure those out yourself. The OSD buttons are on the right edge of the screen just below the optical drive.

I have since tested many combinations of external monitors and cables together with other laptops and proved the problem is with this laptop, We have updated windows 10 to the latest aniversary update to attempt to fix the problem and have also uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel Gaphics Driver which is currently at version 10.18.15.4248. This the latest driver is as posted at the HP website and tends to the be the version that is also automatically installed via windows update.  I notice that actual baseline release date of 10.18.15.4248 is August last year. Intel have many later non-OEM versions but this is the latest HP OEM version. I am at a loss on how to fix the problem and have had to resort to a plugabble USB3 to HDMI adapter to provide external monitor support.

I have a Yoga 11s that started having hdmi connection issues about a year ago and has recently quit connecting to an external monitor via HDMI completely. We tried upgrading to Windows 10 to see if that would overwrite any software issues - no luck. The HDMI port actually appears loose. I did an extensive search of the forum and found posts that recommended cutting down the rubber around the base of the hdmi cord - tried that and at least I had a little activitiy - in the upper right hand corner of the external monitor up popped a box that says DVI then VGA then HDMI - but then says No Signal. Tried the graphics card update recommended on a post from long time ago and a popup indicated I had a newer version already installed. I have taken it to a laptop repair place - said they couldn't get parts from Lenovo. I found an "authorized" Lenovo repair shop locally - when I called they said they only work on business machines Called Lenovo and they told me to take it to Best Buy - however since I purchased this directly from Lenovo, Best Buy said they can't work on it. I would rather not send it into Lenovo because they tried to charge my hubby hundreds of dollars when his 15 day brand new laptop quit working, claiming damage - luckily extensive pictures taken and dated prior to sending it in thwarted that attempt at extortion. Does anyone have any suggestions? Oftenly, I was using my y700 with an external LG monitor conneted via HDMI cable. Sometimes the signal was lost for a few second when I accidentely touched or moved the cable, but I thought it was the cable's fault. The problem reappeared with an increasing frequency until yesterday when the signal was completely lost and I coulnd't bring it back. Today I managed to have an image for a few seconds until I adjusted the cable and it went blank again. So I tried a different HDMI cable, but it didn't helped. I also connected the monitor to my old PC and it was working fine with both cables. I tried to reinstall the Intel drivers, but it didn't helped. Both device menager and the Intel control panel are detecting the monitor and the monitor itself doesnt seem to be in the saving mode either, however, there is no image at all.Is the HDMI port broken then? I have my laptop plugged via HDMI cable to my Phillips flatscreen. The sound have always working fine, until recently, i had the TV plugged in the same time as my external soundcard (Lexicon Ionix u22, i'm a music guy).
It both played at the same time, and when i went and set the external soundcard as standard sound, the tv sound has stopped playing sound whenever the HDMI cable is in. The TV sound works fine when i'm watching tv. I have tried to push the test button, but there is no sound what so ever.

Any thoughts on how to solve this issue?

Hi, It seems that this latest BIOS version (1.02) is causing a few different performance issues for the ThinkPad A485. Once obtaining my A485 I ran some synthetic benchmarks to judge CPU performance. After updating to the latest BIOS, I have noticed a decrease in performance on the order of about 10%. It seems that this BIOS update has allowed the CPU to exhibit more stable performance and CPU throttling behavior under constant load, e.g. as seen in the updates to this article: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-A485-Ryzen-5-Pro-Laptop-Review.334528.0.html but at the cost of some overall performance. Adding to this, after having owned a ThinkPad A485 with a Ryzen 5 2500u and one with a Ryzen 7 2700u, it seems as though Lenovo's power management is aggressively holding back the Vega 10 GPU in the Ryzen 7 2700u, as opposed to the Vega 8 GPU in the Ryzen 5 2500u. Previously, in CineBench R15 (https://www.maxon.net/en/products/cinebench/) benchmarks, my A485 with the 2500u would achieve ~37fps during testing, while hardware monitoring software would show that the GPU was achieving a clock speed of about 800mhz. With my new A485 that has the Vega 10 GPU, it is impossible to achieve more than ~25fps under the same test and testing conditions and the hardware monitoring software shows that the GPU can not reach a clock speed higher than what I believe to be the near-base clock of 400mhz. With both laptops, this testing was performed with the Windows po... Read more

The new official graphics drivers for the A485 (7/11) exhibit the same resolution bug as unofficial sideloaded drivers. This is not seen in the previous graphics driver (6/8) and needs to be fixed. The problem is that it locks the resolution of certain games to 1080p, as this becomes the only recognisable resolution for the display - as seen by Custom Resolution Utility showing only 1080p at 60hz and 48hz. Adding 1280x720, as it is the only playable resolution for most games anyway, results in a blackscreen when using it.This entirely breaks games like Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age, causing a white screen crash, and locks 1080p to at least Distance and Far Cry 3 from my testing.

I was now succesfully outputting the laptop to my external monitor via HDMI.  Why does the monitor only get detected if I use the VGA sockets first? Is this intentional or a bug?

Just got a new T460 Thinkpad.  Love it but when I connect to the projector in our conference room the external microphone in our conference room does not work.  Connecting via HDMI.  To clarify, the microphone on the laptop works, but I can't the the external microphones in the conference room to connect.  When I connect via HDMI using a Microsoft Surface, the external microphones work so I know the system is functioning.  Any ideas?

The monitor doesn't even get detected. I have verified that there is no problem with the cable. The monitor works when it's connected via HDMI to my desktop so I know the monitor doesn't have a problem either. No idea what the issue is? The monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster S24B300BHL and runs at 1920x1080 @ 60Hz, same as the laptop. Any help solving this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I've recently purchased a HP15-AYO56TX laptop (i7 2.5GHz, 8Gb RAM, 2Tb HD model with both AMD Raedon R7 M340 4GBVRAM and Intel HD 520 graphics) and am curious what's the maximum resolution I can run on an external monitor via HDMI? Have been eyeing off a 21:9 ultra wide screen monitor with a 2560x1080 resolution which would be great with Revit and AutoCAD, but I believe some variants of HDMI only support up to 1920x1080 resolution? Anyone able to confirm? Cheers, Ben.

R7 M440 Graphics (4 GB DDR3 dedicated) You should have no problem driving 1920x1080 on an external monitor and I don't think that going higher will be an issue but sometimes it just depends on the monitor model.  I wouldn't use it for gaming, though.
