Dell Inspiron N5110 15R freezes on Safe Mode(Black Screen)

Q: Dell Inspiron N5110 15R freezes on Safe Mode(Black Screen)

Hi there, I am using Windows 8 on Dell Inspiron N5110 15R laptop. I had to upgrade my BIOS so as to install and use the most recent operating system, Windows 8. I was Windows 7 user and had to clean install Windows 8. In Windows 7, I was very much familiar with safe mode, but today, when I booted Windows 8 into safe mode (Using PC Settings, Advanced Startup etc.), and I selected "Safe Mode With Networking" on restart, and then a blue Windows logo appears with waiting dots circling, and after that the screen is just black, and even after waiting for quite some time, it is still there, as it "freezed". If you guys know the solution and can help me solve this issue, I'll be very much grateful. Thank you for your time reading this. I look forward to your opinions and suggestions. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When you say clean install, I hope you deleted all partitions as part of your installation; yes? Anyway, a screenshot of your partition structure might provide additional information that could be useful in evaluating you current situation:

Hello,
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 that freezes randomly. I cannot figure out what the issue is, no matter what I do or read in Event Viewer.

System :

- Intel i5 2430m 2.4GHz;
- 6GB DDR3 (4+2GB) Samsung 1333MHz;
- 320GB Western Digital WD3200BPVT HDD;
- Intel HD3000 + NVidia GT 525M 1GB
- Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Maximum temps achieved while running AIDA64 System Stability test (using both GPUs and CPU at 100%) : 90 degrees Celsius.
Maximum GPU temp in Furmark : 84 degrees Celsius.
Maximum CPU temp in Prime95 : 80 degrees Celsius.
Cooling system has been cleaned and fresh thermal paste has been applied, namely Gelid GC-Extreme 2.
The system passes all diagnostics : Dell Diagnostics (quick & full), Dell Pre-Boot Diagnostics, AIDA64 System Stability Test (1h), Gold Memory&MemTest 86, Furmark, Prime95, basically anything you throw at it.
The freezes occur usually during normal operation : browsing the web, browsing the hard drive, downloading files using your browser.
The biggest number of freezes occurred after a fresh install of Windows 7 and using Firefox/IE to download the nVidia drivers.

Steps taken :
- Updated BIOS from A9 to A11 (latest);
- Installed fresh Windows 7;
- Upgraded nvidia drivers from 288 to 344;
- Upgraded Intel Centrino Wireless driver;
- Upgraded power adapter from 90W to 130W;

I think I may have found the issue. I took the laptop apart again and I noticed that the thermal pad that covers the PCH was missing. The keyboard's metal frame was touching directly on the intel PCH.
I noticed some high temperatures on the PCH, namely 77 degrees Celsius and I thought I should check it. Seems whoever took the laptop apart last time, forgot to put the thermal pad back on.
I'm gonna mount a new pad and post back the results.

It started when my desktop froze after a video,(no virus on my comp) so i just let it be for about an hour and it didnt budge so i decided to manually shut it down (which i never do, and i've only done this once to this computer). So when i started it back up again, it showed the BOIS screen but when it went to the xp logo loading screen, nothing was there except for a black screen. I went into that F8 Menu and tried everything, on safe mode it would just stop loading files up to Mup.sys. Ive tried to run off the Re-installation disk but it would just go to *Setup Starting Windows* and then freeze again. I've foubnd that there was a problem with the NTDLR file but i already fixed that with a boot floppy, but it really didnt do anything because i still have the black screen problem.

Im running a dell potiplex GX620 with intergrated motherboard
OS Win XP Pro (i think SP2 because i dont have the SP3 CD but not entirely sure)

Please if you can help, I want to try to repair this without formatting my hard drive because i have very important files in there.

oh yeah and i forgot to mention when i boot off the CD it gives me these options

Press F6 to install a SCSI or RAID driver

Press F2 To enter ASR (automated System Recovery)

and then it just load a bunch of files and then stops and freezes at Setup is Starting Windows

Please help, this is very very annoying and i dont want to loose my files

When I try to put my Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop into sleep mode, the screen goes dark and it looks like it's going to sleep. But the power button stays lit, and the two small outer edge lights on the front display stay lit. I can hear the motor whirring too, and it's clear the laptop is actually on and using/losing power. I am unable to get it out of sleep mode. A long press of the power button will get the computer powered up, but I am immediately taken to the "Windows did not shut down correctly" screen, and given the option to start windows normally or in safe mode.

To fix the problem, I've tried doing a system restore to a restore point before the problem started. That didn't fix it. Today I scanned the hard drive, motherboard and various other hardware, and everything passed. I did a virus scan and no threats were found. Any ideas what's going on and what I can do to fix the issue?

Specs for the laptop: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1, 64 bit, 6 GB RAM, Inter Core i5.

A:Dell Inspiron N5110 does not go into sleep mode, loses power

How long has the problem been going on? If it's within the time you have available System Restore point try rolling it back.

Sleep problems are mostly Display driver issues, so make sure your driver is up to date: First enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) to run all Important and Optional Windows Updates, with reboots, until there are no more when you check..

Then check the Dell Support page for your Tag number to try the latest driver there.

If all available drivers don't work, then work through these Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums.

Establish a Clean Boot, check for errors at time of Sleep in logs, utilize System Resources from the Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

You can troubleshoot Sleep issues in Power Options by setting Sleep to 1 minute and Hibernate to 2 minutes to observe these timeouts behavior. I'd also try manually Sleeping and Hibernating from the Shut Down button. You want to test Hibernate too because it is an even better method to Sleep.

If all else fails trace the cause by Gathering a Startup, Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate, or Reboot Trace - Windows 7 Forums

Hi, A friend of mine has ased me to look at her computer as it reboots and freezes at the black safe mode screen, if she leaves it turned off for about 10mins it will start back up with no problems, it does not sem to be over heating as this can happen withing a minute of booting up.
I have noticed that the dvd from light seems to stay on for quite a while when it boots up but then goes out.

Any ideas thx.

A:Computer reboots but freezes at the black safe mode screen

you say it freezes at the safe mode screen, is it automatically going to that screen or are you pressing F8 as it boots to get there?? if it is automatically going to that screen, have you tried selecting "last known good configuration"? or can you not even choose which selection to boot with?

Until recently my Inspiron 15R (running Windows 7) would not allow a Windows 10 upgrade.  It would say that Dell had not certified this device with Win 10 due to BIOS issues.  About a week ago I had to do a complete "bare metal" Windows re-install so took that opportunity to download all the latest drivers and the latest BIOS.  I didn't think any more about it until today when it popped up and asked if I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10.  I figured I would get the same "can't upgrade" message but decided to go ahead and try.  To my surprise it downloaded and installed Windows 10.
However: I can boot and log into Windows 10 and can see my desktop for about 5 to 10 seconds.  Then the screen goes black.  I can see (and move) the mouse pointer but nothing other than the mouse pointer shows on the screen.
I figured it must be an incompatible video driver (although as I said, it does display the desktop just fine for a few seconds), so decided to boot into SAFE mode to see if I could resolve the issue.  But the exact same thing happens when I boot into SAFE mode.  I see the desktop for a few seconds and then it goes black, with nothing other than the mouse pointer being displayed.
Any thoughts on a resolution?

I have a Dell Inspiron N5110 laptop.  I purchased it mid 2011 and although it is 5 years old, it has been an extremely reliable basic home computer. After relentless prompting from Microsoft, on 29 July I finally hit the button and upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) to Windows 10.  While I know the upgrade was completed, unfortunately now I can’t successfully use the laptop and am trying to work out what to do next.  The current status is:

Laptop display - a fully black screen (no cursor). This means I get no visual prompts using just the laptop when I turn it on or shut down power to the machine.
External Monitor display - eventually fully black screen with cursor, but able to see / access log on and log off screens.

Using the VGA port to connect the laptop to the monitor, when I first turn on the laptop, on the monitor I get the standard Dell and Windows 10 login information before it finally turns black (with visible cursor).  The laptop screen stays fully black.  Therefore, using the external monitor display, I was able to complete the Windows 10 installation (accept agreement), and using ‘’control, alt, delete’’ I can do a normal shut down process.
Using the HDMI port to connect the monitor, it is more or less the same as for the VGA port above, but it takes a few seconds more before the monitor screen finally turns black. The monitor screen displa... Read more

The general consensus with this model is that it's the IDT audio driver that causes Windows to crash.  Try starting the system in repair/safe mode (hold the SHIFT key while starting/restarting) and uninstall the IDT driver.  Windows should be able to find its own driver for the audio and the system should run fine thereafter.
If you can't get to the point where you can remove the driver, you can do a clean install of Windows 10 (that will remove the existing driver set AND the data on the system, so be sure the system is backed up first).

I have had my dell inspiron for 5 years now. two years ago, I dropped it and the LCD shattered. I purchased a new LCD from Amazon and took it to a PC repair store nearby. (Fry's Electronics was the first choice but couldn't install the LCD due to liability issues.) I got my computer back and it worked perfectly. Now fast forward a month later and i haven't used it in about 2 weeks. I go to start up and the screen is black, I check the brightness and that didn't seem to be the problem, then i see that the LCD is fine but the backlight is very dim and keeps flickering like a light about to burn out. Could this problem be hardware and a part stopped functioning?(motherboard/inverter I hear are common culprits) Or could this be a software issue?

I have a white screen upon startup. I was able to use my laptop when plugging the VGA cable in the back to an external monitor but that only works with a few tries.
I notice if i put my laptop on sleep for less than 2 hours the external monitor works.
Any time longer and I have to start the process of removing and inserting the plug and playing with my external monitor so it can detect a signal, it usually takes a few tries and a few minutes.
The white screen is always on my laptop throughout the process and even when the external monitor works.
Just determining if i should replace me screen or ribbon video cable or check my connection to my vga cable or could it be my motherboard.

any help or direction is appreciated.
Thank you!

A:Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 screen problem - white screen & external monitor works if I jiggle the plug

Hi FMIT,
We need to isolate if the issue is with the LCD or the video card. So, turn off the system - press and hold the "d" + power key to turn it back on - this should initiate the LCD built in self test. You should see a screen with solid changing colors and the system would beep. If you see this - the LCD is fine. If you do not see the colors changing - then repeat the step again - but this time - swivel the LCD back and forth and see if there is any display. If the display is intermittent then the LCD cable needs reseating/replacing.
Also, turn off the system and press and hold the "fn" key + power button to turn it back on - wait for a few minutes. If you do not see any display, the system should start beeping. Count the number of beeps per cycle. At any point if you see the screen with solid colors changing - the LCD is fine. The issue is with the video card/motherboard. If do not see the changing colors - then we would suspect the LCD.
Test the system with another VGA cable for the external monitor.
If the system is under warranty, then please send me the service tag of the system and your contact details through a private conversation. Or you could use twitter - @dellcares - we can DM through twitter and help you fix the issue.

I got handed this laptop today - it belongs to the daughter of one of my bridge partners - and I cannot get it to boot into anything other than Safe Mode.

It appears to have something of a checkered history. It was built by Dell with Win 7 HP installed, at least there is a Dell COA sticker on the bottom of it, but it is now running Win 8.0 Pro. She says it was taken to a repair shop in the town, about whom I know nothing, and they said 'We've put 8 on it'.

I managed to get to Control panel/Recovery and do a restore to the 12th October and I was then able to get it to connect to my router. I installed Malwarebytes, it updated and ran a scan which showed 1012 entries for PuPs and 2 instances of Rogue.Multiple. All appeared to be properly quarantined and a second scan, after a re-boot, came up clean, but it still will not boot into anything other than Safe Mode.

I am beginning to suspect that either the Win 8 install was botched or it is a pirate copy. On Control panel/system, the product id comes up as 'Not available', and there is no 'Windows update' section on the control panel.

If it is a legitimate copy, how do I get it to boot normally ?  There is no recovery partition.

If it is not a legitimate copy, since it has a Win 7 COA, what is the easiest way to revert it to Win 7 ?  Data isn't a problem, there is very little on this system and I can recover what there is.

A:Dell Inspiron N5040 - Safe mode only

I'm almost 100% sure the Win8 on the machine is illegal.  Since there's no recovery partition but there's a COA I'd say to download the correct version of Win7 from here and do a clean install.

Hi there,
Here's to hoping someone can point to a possible solution.  First off let's start with some facts:
a) The Wife has a Dell Inspiron 5759 running Windows 10.
b) She comes to me and says she put machine to sleep brought it to work, and tried to resume.  It has no display.  She can hear the HDD spinning, fans whirling, but internal LCD panel is completely black (no power). I have her hold power button to shut the machine down.
c) She brings it home, and I start it.  I hear everything start up, LCD panel gets power, it goes into a Windows 10 start-up mode, but then goes completely off. No power.  However, machine is working, I even hear the Windows 10 'startup' sound.
d) Laptop has *never* been hooked up to an external monitor; however, on a whim, since I can hear it running, I bring it over to a digital TV, plug in an HDMI cable, and lo and behold, I have a display at the Windows 10 log in screen.
e) Shut it down. Unplug the HDMI, and try to restart... same thing.  It starts, but the power is eventually cut after a Windows 10 startup.  Have to re-plug in the HDMI.
f) Next I try booting to a memtest flash drive I created.  That seems to be working just fine.
g) I then think to hook it up to the external TV, boot, and then using 'msconfig' place the machine into safe mode.  Hit restart, and unplug the external TV monitor.
It is at this point, I can now start the computer and the LCD panel remains ... Read more

Yesterday, my son was playing Star Wars, Empire at War and when he closed it down, he got impatient and forced a shut down by pressing the power button and holding it down while it was trying to shut the program down. Ever since then, when I try to start up my computer, it starts up part way and then it tells me that it can't start windows (7) properly. I then get the option of running the startup repair, which I've done now 4 times. The last couple of times I've run it, it has told me that it cannot automatically repair the problem and so it sends an error report.

I went to advanced system repair options, and I tried to do a system restore, but it wouldn't do it because no system restore point had been chosen by the computer. When I tried to choose a system restore point, it wouldn't let me.

I've tried to start the computer in safe mode so that I can run a system restore, but it still gets all jammed up when it tries to start in safe mode and, after loading some programs, it suddenly goes to an all gray screen. It stays on the all gray screen for about an hour (while the hard drive is working away) only to then tell me that there is a problem with startup and that I need to run the startup repair.

Any ideas for how to fix this? Thanks.

So, I bought a new laptop and the internet has never worked right. I will consistently get a DNS Error code, no matter what I try. I've tried wiping it several times, updating all networking drivers, uninstalling the pre installed Mcafee and what not. It's only at my house, though. I can take it to class or to the public library and it connects with no problem. I thought it was our internet at home that was having the error, but the tech guy has been here four times to fix it and every time it still doesn't work. I also have several phones and other laptops connected to our internet that work fine. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all!

Today I started up my computer (an XP machine running SP3) and after it went through the BIOS, it showed the Windows startup screen (the Windows logo with the blue progress bar), but when that was done, it went to a black screen and won't do anything else.

I restarted and tried a few different things; Start Windows Normally, and Last Known Good Configuration both got me the same black screen.

CheckDisk ran, and it made it to the end, but froze when it said "please wait while your computer reboots" ... after waiting more than 10 minutes, i hit reset and tried to reboot it myself. It did the same Bios-Windows-blackscreen thing as before.

I also tried booting into Safe Mode, which DID work, and when I got in there I tried to do a System Restore (two, actually... for two previous dates) but both did nothing to resolve the problem. I tried simply copying my "important" files to my external HD (which it sees), but it won't copy in Safe Mode

When loading in Safe Mode, the driver list pauses and says "press esc to cancel loading of SPTD.sys" but I've tried it both ways and it doesn't make a difference that I can see.

I tried using my XP CD to boot from, which takes me into the Recovery Console, and I chose to hit "R" to repair, but when it asks me what drive I want to login to (which is C:) I don't really know what to do from there. I haven't booted from a CD before, so I assumed it would run a "Repair Wizard&... Read more

A:XP won't load in regular mode (black screen), but will in Safe Mode

Just to clarify, I don't really care if the XP installation is fixed, I just want to know if there's a way to get the files off the HD onto an External USB drive. There's gotta be a way... right?

Hey guys, I seem to be having trouble, and I'm not terribly inclined with laptops and computers, mine is an HP G62 laptop, and that's about as far as I know about it. The other day I went to use it, opened it up, I had 3 tabs open (google chrome), and I tried to open a new tab. All new tabs were freezing, and my itunes had frozen as well. I tried closing the laptop, hoping it would go into sleep mode, but it didn't, it stayed running. I reopened it and the screen stayed off, so I did a hard reset (holding the power button to turn it off) and started it back up. I started it in normal mode, and logged on, but after loading from the log on screen, it went to a black screen with just the cursor, and stayed there. I did another hard reset, and started it in safe mode, and now this is how I'm currently running. I've tried disabling the display drivers and restarting, that worked momentarily, but froze shortly after. Next, I tried a system restore, which did absolutely nothing, and then I ran chkdsk and, again, nothing. After all this, I decided to try uninstalling the display drivers, which, once again, did nothing. This seems to be all the info I have gathered from online, and through friends' help, there seems to be nothing left to do that may fix this problem. Anyone have any idea on where to go from here?

A:Black Screen in Normal Mode. Only Safe Mode Works.

Hello ericberard,

You?re having a problem with the computer going to a black screen.

First test the hardware.

Turn off the computer

As you power it back on, tap the F2 key. This will load hardware diagnostics.

Once the screen loads run the startup test.

If this is windows 7 and the startup test pass.

Power back off the computer.

As you power it back on, tap the F8 key. This will load Advanced Boot Options.

Select Last Known Good Configuration.

This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly.

Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

Let me know how everything goes.

Have a good day.

I have a gateway computer that is about 3 years old. It has a ati radeon 3200 gfx card and came with 4 gigs RAM. Recently I purchased 2x2gb G Skill DDR2 ram upgrade in hopes of more efficient gaming [gfx card is OK for 8gb ram max]. After installing the new ram [about a month ago] the computer was running fine. The new ram created a button on my toolbar called AMD Catalyst, and right-click gave identical options for each ram card, one was a list of what looked like screen settings. I know it were running on 600x800, and last night my troublesome youngest son was using my computer and says he clicked a different option by accident, making the screen freeze momentarily then go black.

I've tried:
restarting my computer
removing the 2 G Skill ram cards
under msconfig in safe mode, disabling AMD Catalyst, for it seems to be the root of the problem.

But every time i restart my computer and try booting in normal mode, I get the typical Welcome ring from the speakers accompanied by a black screen. The screen is a 36" Vizio flatscreen tv with VGA hook up, been using for a computer screen for over a year now.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have this 4 year old Lenovo Y560(config below)

The discrete graphic card has probably fried a long time ago, so last year when I did a clean install of Windows, I had to disable ATI Card permanently in the device manager using safe mode and used the Intel integrated card. A few days ago, I booted up windows only to encounter, "A disk read error has occurred, press ctrl+alt+del to restart" . I tried to boot up using WIN 7 install disc, but soon after the Starting Windows logo , the screen turns black and I am left with a cursor in a black screen. I tried to boot into Safe Mode but still I encountered a black screen with just the cursor .

I booted with Ubuntu live usb and was able to access all my partition and did back up and even formatted the Windows Partition. I tried to boot using a WinPe and faced the Black screen with a cursor again. I even reset BIOS to default, changed Graphics Adapter from "Discrete' to "Switchable' and vice-versa, but no effect at all. When I boot up using Ubuntu and ran lspci | grep VGA I can see both cards listed. I even tried to boot up using Windows 10 preview disk, still I get a black screen after the Windows loading screen.

I can't afford to buy any laptop presently since I am currently at college, so using Ubuntu for now. Is ther any way to install Windows 7 again? Is it possible to get the ATI Card working properly- reballing, reflow?

What other graphics adapter choices are available in BIOS setup? If you choose Switchable is there software on the Lenovo site for your model that's needed? Are you using the Display adapter software from there?

Have you tested your HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by a full Disk Check on a single disk partition you create?

Then work through the steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums including trying an alternate install method (disk><flash stick) with new media. These steps overcome almost all install failures, so you'll be reasonably sure the problem is hardware or BIOS settings if nothing works. But don't skip any steps.

Try Clean Install Windows 10 Technical Preview to see if there's any difference with a more modern OS install. It's already a very polished OS and worth testing this.

hi, after you hit F12 did you see the diagnostics program at all? Ordinarily I would say It may be worthwhile running a scan on the hard drive if you can. But, I see you removed a virus, can you tell me if it was with the help of the antimalware section on this forum? or did you just remove it yourself? I need to know if you are absolutely sure you removed all traces of the virus - if you had the help of a forum they would have given you the "all clear". Have you tried starting in safe mode at all?

I have a problem with my new laptop and it happens only sometimes. It is around 1 month old and it had this problem from the beginning . The laptop is a DELL INSPIRON 3552
1. DELL LOGO appears
2. Screen backlight is ok
3. Windows won't start ( window's logo doesn't appear ) and if i plug an external mouse the cursor is on the black screen.
If I shut down the laptop from the power button and the start it again it works. It's very random. Once I had to restart the laptop for 3 times before the windows started.
Any ideas ?

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
As we understand that the system doesnt not boot and just goes up to the Dell logo and after multiple restarts the system works fine.
In that case ,Can you boot the system into " Safe mode " and check if the same happens..You can also perform a system restore and also check for updates pending .
Thanks

Hey guys!!! Plz hlp me wid dis stuff. I'm stucked in making HDD Partition in my Dell Inspiron N5110. There was 2 Partitions of HDD during the tym of puchase my laptop. The retailer too said me dat it was unable to make a 3rd partition. So I tried to make a partition by my own. I tried in 2 ways: 1) During Boot time by booting 4m win7 DVD & another by going through the disc management (diskmgmt.msc). During the tym of Boot the Unallocated space remaining 4 the 3rd partition has it's New option inactive. Therefore I failed to make a partition there. 2) Inside the disk management, 1st I shrinked my Volume1 (My C:\ drive of 135 GB) to nearly 77 GB and the rest 58 GB was unallocated. When I tried to make a new Volume (Unallocated Space>Right-click>New Volume) It says me dat "You cannot create a New Volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains the maximum number of partitions" .Plz hlp me. What 2 do?

A:Dell inspiron N5110 HDD Partition

This is very interesting.

I would recommend completely formatting the HDD. Remove everything. Then, use an advanced partition editor (gParted or Partition Magic) to create the partitions you need.

Backup your data first, though....

Hi all,

My troubles began about a week ago when I needed to print some forms and that I had had it with my laptop not printing (despite recognizing my printer and even allowing it to print a test page from within the printer maintenance software). So I began fiddling...well now everything is messed up.

A description of symptoms:
1) My sound has a 'delay' for lack of a better word. Say an alert pop up comes up, it is 1-2 seconds later when the alert sound plays.

2) Flash games are severely delayed and I keep getting shockwave errors stalling my Firefox. I am also getting the occasional flash plug in crash notice (even if not attempting to play games)

3) I am able to watch videos/listen to music on my computer with minimal interference, but cannot use Spotify streaming as the sound has gone wonky (very high pitched digitized, skippy, etc.)

4) There is a delay between the time I click a button and it actually reacts, so where opening firefox used to take a few seconds, it now takes half a minute. Switching tabs used to be instant, it now has to think about it.

5) CPU is running hot, too hot. I borrowed my fiance's laptop pad with a fan and thankfully it brought it down from 74C to under 69C, but the fan is still running constantly. He's bringing home a can of air to give it a proper cleaning tonight (as the one I had only gave me one quick spray before running out). It has always run a bit hot, but this constant running is new to this we... Read more

You need to replace the hard drive - which, while an inexpensive component to replace, isn't easy to access on this model.  You may want to view the video below before deciding to replace it yourself -- or have a shop do the job for you.
You'll need a new 2.5" 7- or 9.5 mm SATA notebook hard drive (or hybrid or solid state drive).

A:Dell Inspiron N5110 CPU Upgrade

In most cases, no - you cannot.  The systems that ship with i7 CPUs have a different system board and require a more powerful AC adapter.  You may be able to run a faster i5, but the i7s usually require a different system board.
Upgrading the CPU will also void your warranty.

A:Need Dell Windows 7 ISO for Inspiron n5110

It's not downloadable.  Your best bet is probably to avail yourself of the free upgrade to Windows 10 at this point (you can get version TH2 from Microsoft and use your 7 product key that's in the battery compartment to activate it).
It's at this point unlikely Dell will ship out an end of life OS  like Windows 7.
