Test.exe process on startup and then disappears quickly

Q: Test.exe process on startup and then disappears quickly

Hello!

Just recently i scanned my computer with Spybot Search and Destroy, and found a trojan "DC3_FEXEC", i removed and rebooted my computer, i opened the task manager and found a process named 'Test.exe' and he disappeared very quickly. I ran ADware cleaner, Combofix (probably a mistake), Malwarebytes, HitmanPro, and it didn't found anything. But everytime i reboot and open the task manager it's there, but it disappears so fast that i can't click on it.

This viruses are in my new Hard Drive that a friend gave me, i formatted both partitions except the one that said ''System Reserved''.

If anyone could help i would be very grateful. Sorry if it's confusing, english is not my native language.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:

Hey, i solved (i hope), apparently it was something from spybot, i ran in safe mode and used the ''autoruns'' application and the description it said ''test.exe - Makes sure Spybot 2 is there on Windows 10.''
I deleted it and now it's gone. I tried removing the topic but i don't think i can. Sorry if i wasted anyone's time.

Preferred Solution: Test.exe process on startup and then disappears quickly

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there,Just to drop by a piece of advice - Spybot Search & Destroy is no longer recommended as its performance is very poor, and the TeaTimer function interferes with malware removal. Two better alternatives for anti-malware software are Emsisoft Anti-Malware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Both have excellent track records and offer real time protection if upgraded to paid version, and can be used alongside existing antivirus software.

Hi,

After the latest windows auto-update (I have Win 7 Ultimate), when I right click on my desktop or any file/folder on my desktop, the right click menu only stays open for a second or less then disappears. It's nearly impossible to select any option it goes away so quickly. I haven't changed or installed anything expect the auto update for windows. I do run Norton but I've always had it and this is a new problem. Anyone also run into this?

Thanks.
Colin

A:Right-click menu disappears quickly

Hello Colin, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What was the Windows Update for?

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command may be able to help. If not, then other than a repair install, you might do a system restore using a restore point dated before you install the update.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hello there,

I have windows 7 RC on my laptop, Dell 1501.

When I start one or more programs from the taskbar and hover my mouse pointer on them I can see thumbnail previews.
The problem is that thumbnail previews disappear too quickly even though my mouse pointer is still on the opened program in taskbar.
I have to move my mouse so I can get another quick preview.
I notice that if I click on an empty space on the taskbar with the left mouse button, and then point to an opened program the thumbnail preview stays for as long as my mouse pointer is on the program.

Does anybody have that problem?

A:Taskbar thumbnail preview disappears quickly

Hi tchimev,

No, I can't say I've ever had that problem. If I have a program open and hover over it on the taskbar, it will stay for as long as I have the mouse over it. Maybe changing the time it takes for the preview window to pop up might help.

This is rather strange but in my windows ultimate video editing machine every time I go to use my editing software and go to open or inpost a file the window opens for a second then quickly disappears. Could there be some sort of exe issue? I am running Norton's NIS2012 now but had just Karperskys anti virus lapse on me.

A:Every time I open a window, within a second it quickly disappears

I'd replace NIS with Microsoft Security Essentials to see the difference with a better performing AV.

I'd also run a full scan with Malwarebytes to eliminate the possibility of infection.

Then work through these troubleshooting steps

But if for example windows explorer is the active window on taskbar, thumbnail previews stay for a short time. SOLUTION: dell 1501 specific and may be bios version 1. shut down the laptop 2. remove the power supply and the battery 3. press and hold the power button (I pressed it 2-3 times and kept it pressed for about 1 second) --- obviously the laptop will not start. 4. plug in the battery and the power supply, start the laptop and check if the problem is gone.

When I click the start menu, it disappears after about a quarter second. Also, when typing, the typed text will highlight after a few keystrokes, making it very difficult to type anything.

I assumed it was a virus at first so I scanned with these programs:
MBAM - 0
TDSSKiller - 0
Hitman Pro - 0
HijackThis - 0

found nothing, so i tested memory and HDD - both OK

Then I did a repair installation and still have the problem. Please help.

Hey recently i have noticed my computer has been having random loads which freeze my games or whatever and when i ctrl+alt+delete i see a weird process pop up which quickly goes away. I didn't catch the name of it but there was also a rundll32.exe that comes up. So strange loading + weird process. Also, last weekend one of my wow accounts had its password changed, and i don't share that info with anyone so the WoW gm told me theres a good chance i have a key logger. Anyways heres my log. The process isn't shown that i was talking about but like i said it pops up then goes away really quickly. Also, this was done after i shut down all the extra processes and services. Should i restart and run it after not shutting anything off?

- I ran AVG and Ad-aware and nothing came up.

Hello and welcome to the Tech Support Guy forums.

Under Start> Run> type msconfig and hit enter

Under the Startup tab of the window that pops up, see how many processes are listed with checks next to them. If you can either take screenshots and attach them or write them into your next post manually. Then we can figure out what can be turned off at StartUp (you have a LOT of unecessary programs on at Startup)

Hi all,

I read through the BSOD posting guide, but realized I cannot create a dump file since I cannot get into win7 at all (I'm currently on my mac).
IF I'M IN THE WRONG PLACE, let me know ASAP so I can fix that and get this posted where it belongs!

Background: Computer was working fine up until about 3-4 days ago. I changed an audio driver to force sound through the headphones while playing resident evil 5. It worked, but may have caused my side effects. I also tried to update the bios in the HP support function in windows, but cannot confirm if that went through or not.

About 2 days, ago, my computer started an annoying random shutdown problem. It would restart, but I'd get an error saying improper shutdown, would you like to boot into...(safe mode, etc)

Then I started having boot issues as well. It would run through startup recovery and work, but then shut down randomly (never while playing RE5 or Half Life 2, only when idle). Now it's to the point where I can't even get into windows. I've received the following error code after startup recovery runs: root cause found: boot critical file e:\windows\system32\kdcom.dll is corrupt

I've tried system restore 2x (and startup recovery like 6x) but system restore points only went back 3 days (I found that odd)

As a side note, I've seen some virus activity recently. I believe system progressive protection was one of them and since then I've seen doubleeclick.net (2 e's).

When it comes to malware, untrained eyes may struggle to figure out whether a file is malicious or not. The svchost.exe virus, in particular, falls under this umbrella of ambiguity ? while the virus attached to this file is obviously bad, the svchost.exe by itself is really a core Windows file.So many times we hear about svchost being a suspicious file in the Malware Reporting Forum, and there is a reason for that.
The authentic svchost.exe file is located in C:\Windows\System32, but numerous viruses and trojans use the same file and process name to hide their activities.
How to check svchost status quickly? The free Svchost Process Analyzer makes it easy by listing all svchost instances and checks the services they contain. This makes it easy to uncover Svchost worms like the infamous Conficker worm.

100% freeware
doesn't require runtimes
doesn't require installation
doesn't write to the registry
doesn't modify files outside of its own directories
On a side note : Experts at MT will be digging into their advanced task managers, etc, but, this small utility isn't meant to compete with paid/free ones like process hacker and process explorer.Just a fun, quick way to scan svchost. I am posting my results here, let's see yours .

Problem: The Wild Tangent Error Pop-up was solved on my desktop computer by using:

START ---- RUN---type in msconfig-----then going to START-UP and unchecking the Wild Tangent File...... But.....

Our Laptop has the same problem, which is an XP also.....we tried the above solution. The lap top has SPY Bot, and Ad Ware removal like my desktop computer, but now we have a new problem before we solve the Wild Tangent problem.

And that is.......When we go to click the Start-up Tab in the System Configuration Ultilty which brings us to all the files on Start-up, we do see all the files but, the page disappears after about 5 seconds, it acts like it is timing out.

This quick disappearing act does not give us a chance to find the file and unclick the Wild Tangent file to solve our problem.

How do we fix the Start-up so it will last more than 5 seconds?

Thanks for all your help!

The very first thing you need to do is to update your ATI driver. First go to control panel and uninstall ATI drivers completely. You can find the latest ATI driver from http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Hello,

I upgraded to Windows 10 several months ago and the Quick Access menu was working normally. A few months back however, all of the pinned items disappeared and I cannot pin anything to the quick access menu either. I've gone through all the posts and different solutions I can find and all I have been able to do is temporarily fix the problem by deleting the "5f7b5f1e01b83767.automaticDestinations-ms" file in the C:\Users\Rob\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations folder.

Deleting this file does bring back the quick access folders that I had pinned before this problem started to happen, but every time I restart my computer, the quick access menu is again empty and nothing can be pinned to it.

I have googled and tried all of the different solutions that I can find so any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

A:A windows pops up at startup on the taskbar then disappears

Greetings, and welcome to TSF.

Your log apprears clean, so we'll need to look a little deeper.

Let's use a program to scan for any trojans that may exist. Download TDS-3 http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=download. Learn how to use it at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=easytouse. Make sure to update it after you installed it. You can get the manual updates at http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=update. When you launch the program, it will scan your memory for running processes. This will take less than 30 seconds. Next go to 'System Testing' on the menu and choose 'Full System Scan'. After that's finished, post the log file by selecting everything on the top pane (select from bottom to top). If any alarms are found, it will be listed in the bottom window. Please copy and paste that here also if it applies. If you have problems copying the text, look (or search) for a file named scandump.txt and see if that has the alarms - post that here.

If you have a fast internet connection (broadband), run an online virus scan at TrendMicro http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/ente...all_launch.php. Just follow the instructions on the site to run the online scan. If any viruses/trojans are detected, try to delete or clean them in that site. You may use Panda ActiveScan also at http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan. Otherwise, make sure your antivirus program has the latest definitions and run a full system scan.

Additionally, ctrl+alt+del fails to open a task manager. When the computer is in this state it is almost completely unresponsive to any input.I have managed to get the computer operating normally by booting into safe mode and either choosing the "load last known good configuration" option or using the system restore. Two problems, related in timing.

On July 1st, I made some adjustments to my startup config and such, and ever since then I've been having problems where my IE and Windows Media Player freeze for a few seconds when loading (though without interrupting data)

But most important of which is that since that time, my HP Factory Image D:\ drive has disappeared. It never served me any purpose, but it always just sat there in my Hard Disk lists on my Computer screen, and is conspicuous in its absence.

I checked my Disk Management and found that the 12 GB where the "D" drive was had become "Unallocated". Before I did something stupid, I checked to Rescan Drives, and it re-found the Factory Image! From then on, the FACTORY_IMAGE (D shows up in my Computer.

But after a few days I found that it was no longer showing on my Computer window, and realized that after restarting or shutting down my comp, it would always disappear, only to re-appear when I rescan my disks.

What's the problem? What service do I need to restore/fix to stop this from happening?

Somewhat related question: Would getting a whole new motherboard and CPU but retaining the old harddrive end these problems mentioned above or is it something to do solely with my faulty configurations?

A:Adjusted startup: HP Factory Image drive disappears after each restart

before you start spending money or mess your machine up any more--go into MSCONFIG and select the normal startup button then restart to see if problem(s) are gone

I need help again!!!

I've recently put together a computer and the memory test doesnt seem to be working properly. At startup, it will just repeat over and over and over going thru all 512MB of ram. I'd sit back and watch the numbers climb SLOWLY up to 512MB of ram and then start back over at 0. Aside from that, everything seems to work okay. I usually have to press ESC to cancel the memory test.

What gives?!

I also wonder if this could be related to my new system's low benchmark scores. This is a :

AMD XP2000+
512MB PC3200 DDR ram
Asus A7V8X-X mobo
128MB Gainward GE Force FX 5200 video card
60GB Maxtor 8mb buffer Hard drive

The low benchmark scores are from FutureMark's 3DMark 03 gamers benchmark program. I scored under 1000!!! Even my older computer scored better than that. The sound test didnt even work. UGH!

Any ideas would be appreciated folks.

Happy computing....

try reseating the ram and running a ram tester

My computer use to do a system check thing when the computer starts up. But after i reformatted my computer, it doesn't do this anymore. Does anyone know how to enable?

A:Enabling startup system test?

What kind of computer? You'll probably need to go into the bios and tell it what checks you want performed on start up.

Which is the recommended location to maintain Product Regression Test Suite ? Would it be QC Test Plan or Test Lab ? (specially for applications that tend to change consistently over time which might require us to update core regression suite as well as functional test cases regularly)

Hi, The 24 character error code is a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.  This is also consistent with the boot issue you describe. If you would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know. Regards, DP-K

I've been having issues with the system running slowly. At  startup and when starting g a browser the disk is being accessed at a very high rate which slows the system  to a standstill. Often the browser is unresponsive for 20 seconds or more. I am running System Diagnostics from the startup menu. The SMART Check, Short DST and long DST all passed but the Startup Test failed. The diagnostics feature did not offer any more info about the failure or possible fixes. Does anyone know more about this test/failures/fixes? Thanks

So not having downloaded anything strange or done anything, one day I go to start my IBM Thinkpad A30 and my screen starts with small green lines going down and garbled text. Then there are exclamation points all down my screen. When i say the text is garbled, what happens is that every other letter is one higher. That is to say, "A" is fine, but "B" is turned into "C", "Windows" becomes "Wioeows".

It eventually boots into windows, but clearly something is funky and it's not quite right. Is this a Bios issue? Anyone seen this before or have a solution? Can't do a clean XP install because the text is unreadable and eventually stops.

thanks!

Just reset to factory settings. Will not start up right. Sometimes hangs on different screens. Loose mouse pointer, restarts itself. I did a hard reset numerous times, did system BIOS recovery. Did a start up test and it said start up failed. please help!

Can you test the hard disk and the memory? Is the notebook about four or five years old?  That is just a guess, but expect it is somewhere in the ballpark. Hard disks do fail and operating system installations also.

Hi guys,

When I was cleaning up my processes I deactivated "ETDCtrl" which is the Elan mouse pad control which allows various functions. I reactivated the process because I want this to oad on startup but now it just refuses to open on startup.

When I reboot and go into the folder where it is stored then it opens and works fine - it just won't open in startup despite it being selected in msconfig. I tried moving a copy into the startup folder but this still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Luke

A:Why won't this process open at startup?

It may depend on another service which was also disabled.

You could try manually reinstalling the drivers for that device. They should be available from the laptop manufacturers website.

I installed windows 7 pro 64 on my laptop and desktop. But the laptop will not check disk or defragment the system files/pagefiles. There must be something starting up that prevents this. Disk check just freezes at the countdown 1. The defragment at bootup says the disk is being used by another process. My desktop with the same files has zero trouble doing all this. I can only assume the sony vaio laptop program/drivers that I installed from there website (40 of them) may be the culprit?? Being I have two fresh installs right next to each other sort of helps zero in on this. Anyway to see what could be starting up BEFORE the defragment/chkdisk gets a chance to start?? Thanks for any help in advance. regards Rick

A:Premature process startup

Hello, Welcome!

Have you installed any programs since doing the clean install? Try removing all programs, or doing a clean install, and immediately try to run Defragment.

If the above does not work, you have a more serious problem. We will try to get it resolved for you.

A:Bizarre Process in Startup

No replies...hard to know if that means nobody sees anything wrong, or just unlucky on my part.

The computer seems to be running fine...I've run a few spyware/AV sweeps and found nothing. But I'm just so darn suspicious of startup processes.

Anyone recognize this?

I use AIM 5.9, and everytime I start up my windows 7 RTM x86 and log in, my AIM, which is set automatically to start with windows, doesn't show up anywhere. I check my task manager, and I see aim.exe. I end process, and open aim again. Doesn't show up again. I have to do this maybe 3 times before it finally shows up. Also, I think turning off my internet before logging in fixes this problem. Also, I have kind of the same problem with ventrilo. Although it doesn't automatically start with windows, if i'm using ventrilo and exit it, it doesn't actually dissappear from the processes tab. I have to end process. This might happen with a few other programs but I can't really remember which, if at all. Thanks in advance.

Hi,I have a bad svchost process at start-up. I've clean up via anti-virus, malwarebytes, and got rid of some non-essentials start-up programs. Computer runs, but as it belongs to an 80+ year old couple, I'd like to get it clean without a rebuild. I'm attaching the latest HiJackThis log - if anybody can see something I missed, I would appriciate it.

I was cruising through the startup configuration utility thingamajiggy because I recently learned how to use it. I found a process that has nothing in its name or "Command" i.e. it is blank. I was wondering if I should turn it off or leave it on. I have attached a screenshot of it.

Thanks

(P.S. the other processes are blurred out, because I saw someone else had done it to their image and guessed that it might be a smart thing to do. If an original screenshot is needed, just ask and I'll get one.)
