Blu-ray sata drive not showing up in explorer.

Q: Blu-ray sata drive not showing up in explorer.

Bought a LG Blu-ray internal sata rewriter. Installed it and windows 7 found it first time. So far so good.
Put windows into sleep mode and when I woke it up the sata drive was missing.
The drive was not only missing, but the tray failed to manually open and the activity light did not illuminate.
Drive totally dead. Check all power and sata cables all ok.
Done a full reboot and drive came back ok

This only happens when the machine is put into sleep mode. Sata drivers all up to date and all cables 100%.
Turn the machine fully off or restart and everything works ok each time. Use sleep mode and it fails when you bring the m/c to life.

Has anyone had a similar problem and how can it be put right? I use ( well I did ) the sleep mode quite a lot and this has become a bit of a pain.

Preferred Solution: Blu-ray sata drive not showing up in explorer.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Just built a new PC with an ASUS X99 Deluxe Mother board. I have installed a new SSD drive and two SATA drives from my old computer, along with one new SATA 2G HD. I plan to migrate data from the old drives to the new one. All the drives show up in the BIOS but when I boot to the OS the new drive and one of the old ones does not show up in Windows. I have installed all the ASUS drivers in windows, and I am now wondering if the OEM version of Windows 8.1 that I purchased has a limitation of how may drives it will support. Can someone please clarify?

I have an older asrock dual sata board, bought a hard 250gb barracuda drive, installed it. It shows up in the bios as working, shows up on post as enabled, but does not show up in windows 7. I read around and also tried to assign a drive number to it, but it does not show up there either.

I have tried running it in IDE mode and still get nothing. but I tested the drive in an xp system and it works fine. On one restart after installing the drive it said it needed ULi SATA/RAID Controller (M1689/M1695) driver. I got them, but they wouldn't install, but then I ran them in vista mode, however they didn't fix the issue. Anyone have anything else I can try?

Hi guys
My laptop is not displaying my Sara drive in the my computer screen. I have had this issue before with an IDE drive, a strange issue where my external drive only appears in the list when I unplug it and then when I plug it in, it disappears.

With this drive, I get the message the device can perform faster in a USB 2 port (something my prehistoric laptop doesn't have,) then I get the message that the device is ready to use.

If I go into device manager it does appear as a USB Mass Storage Device and I've tried updating driver, rollback, uninstall and everything else I can think which all seem to work ok until I go into my computer and it isn't there.

Any ideas? Thanks

A:new sata hard drive showing as scsi in win 7 help

With some hard disk controllers it is normal for it to show up as a SCSI disk - particularly if the disk controller is running in AHCI mode, which is preferrable since it allows features such as NCQ. One thing you may want to check is: locate the drive itself under "Disk Drives" in device manager and go into the properties. Select the "Policies" tab and view what is set. For better performance you will want it set to "Better Performance" with both of the boxes checked. Though if you lose power you may run into minor file corruption issues - I personally have not had issues with this. If you disable those check-boxes performance can decrease significantly.

Hi guys,
I'm hoping you can help
On Friday I purchased an Intel NUC DN2820FYKH. Installed the correct RAM and HDD and installed windows 8.1 through USB. The system installed the OS and booted normally. However, when I shutdown the mini-pc and later turned it back on, it would not recognise the SATA drive.
I assumed something must have gone wrong so I removed it, formatted it in another machine and repeated the process. Eventually I re-installed windows 8. To check, I shut down the computer immediately, and the same problem occurred.
The initial startup screen (showing F2 for setup) hangs when the drive is plugged in but the bios still shows nothing, I tried mounting the drive in an external caddy and connecting it by USB and the computer was able to see it again.
On Friday I updated to the latest BIOS (fy0039). I rolled the BIOS back to (fy0015) and tried every update since then without luck.
I don't think its a hardware fault as a format fixed it until I booted into windows. Before I booted into windows I was having a bit of trouble finding the right installer and the drive was showing up fine. It seems that it's only once I've booted into windows that the drive vanishes on shutdown.

I am using a trial copy of 8.1 Enterprise from MS website.
Please note I have also posted this question on the Intel forums (https://communities.intel.com/message/254820#254820) but in the past have had quicker and more relevant help from this forum.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone know how to get a 2.5" SATA External Case to show up(plugged in by usb (2.0))? Ive spent over 2 days trying to figure it out, please let me know if you know how to fix this...... below is the list of my problem & the things ive tried so far

i have gone to cpu management and it has said "you must initialize a disk before logical Disk Manager can access it" (basically the drive is not initialized and unallocated.it talks about a gtp partion style als)

Now i believe by doing this it will format the drive, which i dont want to do. also i have tried to reassign a drive letter but cannot get this option.

i can safely eject the drive so it shows up on device manager also.

I bought a M1530 on the cheap a few months and installed Win 7 x64 with a lot of research primarily from here. Everything worked perfect. The drive is a Teac DVW28SLC. It's a slot load and the only eject button is with volume and DVD controls above the keyboard. I needed to burn something to DVD. I decided to try Imgburn for the software. Installed it, popped a fresh DVD-R in. DVD drive recognized the blank. I usually reboot a computer before burning, realized I didn't so I rebooted. Now, the drive no longer works.

After the reboot:
-Drive is visible to bios.
-Drive cycles on boot up, checking for a disc.
-Drive is not visible in explorer
-Drive is not visible to diskmgmt.msc
-Drive is visible, not disabled and properly installed in the device manager.
-Card reader also seems to not be visible either but is showing up in device manager.
-Disc will not eject from keyboard button.

Things I've tried to fix it:
-Several reboots.
-Uninstall Imgburn.
-Uninstall Daemon Tools Lite.
-Uninstall Drive in Device Manager, then reboot.
-Uninstall Drive and ATA controllers then reboot.
-Delete upper and lower filers at HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentCOntrol Set\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}, no entries were present.
-Reinstall chipset drivers, though I don't think Intel installer changed or installed anything.
-Fixit does not work.

Anyways, anyone got any ideas? Am I incorrect in diagnosing this as a operating system problem? I need my DVD drive back. Help!

I am experiencing the same problem as listed in other posts on this topic, but with a twist that is keeping me from resolving the problem.

I have a 160gb WD USB external drive of my brother's that I'm trying to save for him, and we're experiencing all of the same symptoms as the other posts on this topic. The drive is automatically recognized when plugged in, drivers auto install, windows correctly identifies the drive and gives full drive name, device manager says it is there and operating properly etc etc, but the drive is not listed in windows explorer as others report. When I try to change the drive letter in disk management as the many other posts suggest, changing the name is not an option for this drive. My only options for the afflicted drive are "New simple volume", "New spanned volume" and "New striped volume" and of course properties.

Here are a list of fixes I have tried without success.

1. Tried different USB ports and different USB cable.
2. Tried 4 different machines running Vista Ultimate SP1 (Desktop Core i7 6gb RAM), Vista Basic (Desktop Core 2 Duo, 4gb RAM), Vista Home Premium SP1 (Laptop Core 2 Duo 2gb RAM) and XP Home SP3 (Laptop Celeron 512gb RAM)
3. Stopped device with "safely remove hardware", uninstalled through device manager, rebooted with device connected.
4. Renamed hard drives and optical drives to x-z to make D-G available to afflicted drive.
5. Repeated all steps with hard drives and optical drives as... Read more

Hello, people, new Windows 7 user here and I already need some help. I've got three internal hard drives, and they're all formatted and partitioned. I am having a strange problem with my external hard drive for my backups. When I plug the drive in, it does not show up in Windows Explorer. I can make it show up by going into disk management and assigning it a drive letter, but the next time I plug it in, I have the same problem again. Any ideas why this might be occurring?
Edit: Turns out this is not limited to my backup drive. Once I assign a letter, the drives work fine. They will even keep the letter if I eject them and re-insert the USB connection, but any external media I plug in fails to assign a drive letter automatically the first time it is plugged in. While I do not see this as a huge problem, it bothers me that Windows is not working as it used to nor as it should.

Edit2: After reading some of the related forums, I realize I should be clear about a couple things. I am having this problem with drives that have already had their drivers installed in Windows. I do not get a dialog saying that Windows is installing these devices because the devices have already been installed. For some reason, their volume letter has been forgotten by Windows and I have to re-assign it. I am being careful not to use the same letter more than once. I am plugging the drives in while Windows is already running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated so that Windows will automatically assign a drive letter to a device instead of me having to manually do it when Windows forgets what letter it had assigned.

My Toshiba P500 Satellite has a 500GB hard drive divided in two in two partitions. Since changing my ITunes folder to that secondary drive, I have been able to sync my phone twice. A week ago that second drive just disappeared from explorer. Screen shots below

All I see is a 10.48GB partition that does not have a drive letter assigned. Have you tried assigning a drive letter via right click?

I managed to get hold of part 01HY319 for my trusty T460 and all works fine. It looks like this and converts from an NVME M.2 drive (M-key) to SATA Express connection on the motherboard.  SATA Express is only x2 PCI lines (rather than the 4 you get with "full" NVME support) so I was interested in performance. Performance before with a 1TB Crucial MX500 SSD SATA drive was like this  Performance afterwards with the 01HY319 part and a 1TB Samsung 960 Evo NVME drive was like this  Hope this helps anyone considering the upgrade.

I would be grateful if anyone can help me out. After my Windows 8 Asus n56vj 750gb hard drive failed I replaced it with a 1tb hdd. After carrying out a system image restoration using EaseUs To-do the new hard drive shows in File Explorer as a 750gb capacity. How can I get the increased HDD capacity to register.

A:Replacement hard drive showing wrong capacity in File Explorer

This is normal after a cloning. The partition needs to be expanded. If you look in disk management is there a partition after your Windows C: partition? If there is then you will need to use a third party partition manager to first move the partition after C: and then expand C:.
Partition Wizard can do the job. All steps are virtual and will not complete until Apply is clicked. This lets you back out of any steps if a mistake is made.
If there is no partition after C: you can expand it in Disk Management by right clicking C: and selecting Extend Volume.
Can you post a screenshot of Disk Management?

I want to transfer data from my hard drive in my laptop (Lenovo Y480) to a hard drive in my desktop. the cables for the sata adapter do not fit the hard drive from the laptop. Is there a different form for a 2.5 hard drive and a 3.5 hard drive?

A:sata to usb adapter cable dosen't fit sata hard drive in laptop?

Does the drive have an adapter need to remove to expose the SATA conenctors? I don;t see anything about the Y480 not having a standard SATA drive and laptop and desktop SATA connectors are the same.

Maybe post pictures of both the drive and your SATA cables.

I have to replace my original hdd on my 9 year old Dell XPS 8100. The desktop  has an i7 chip so I'd hate to replace it with a new i7 PC because they are expensive. The bad drive is an esata drive. I notice that current crop of hdd's seem to be sata III drives. Will the old Dell PC mother board  on the desktop support the new sata III drivesIf I replace the bad hard drive would I be able to restore the W7 OS and all my data by using a macriumbackup file on the desktops external  backup drive?
Thanks for your help!

A:Can old oem sata hard drive be replaced with a new current generation sata III hdd on an 8 year old xps 8100 with an i7 chip??

Any 3.5" SATA drive will work.
As long as the system is in working order, and you purchase a SATA data cable for the additional drive, you should have no trouble cloning the existing drive to a new one.

Hi, hopefully should be straight forward enough...

I have just bought one of these space saving Acer Revos which does not come with an Optical drive.

I have a Blu-ray reader (dvd writer) which is SATA, but the Revo only has USB or eSATA.
So... i was wondering what is needed to get this (SATA) drive to work via eSATA or usb?

Is it as simple as a SATA to eSATA cable or will this not give the necessary power to the drive?

Or do i need an eSATA enclosure, and if so what size for an optical drive 5.2?

Cheers for any help.

A:New PC with no optical drive or SATA connection (can i use a SATA drive in it?)

Ya no problem use it. For more details contact us at www.sacatech.com

Hi, i'm new to this site but very familiar with technology, i built this machine myself.
im currently running off my old HD but i want to reinstall windows onto my new SATA hardrive (160GB) this one is an IDE. The BIOS and Nvidia Raid config recognize the drive but the windows installation does not. I was reading this thread on this site that i foudn from google

because he has the same MB as myself but different hard drives. I am currently in the process of trying what he did but i do not have a floppy drive. I only have a 1 CD drive and a 16GB floppy drive. i'm going to try these routes first for the configuartion software but if not im going to see if i can find one laying around.

IF i cant find one and the CD/flash drive don't work is there another way to try the methods described in the previous web link?

*Hard Drives are Western Digital Caviar

A:Installation Problems of Windows XP onto SATA HD. SATA Drive not recognized.

Most newerBIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting, change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( Verbage will vary by manufacturer )
