Lenovo ideapad Z710 won't boot past Lenovo splash screen (OS is Linux Mint)

Q: Lenovo ideapad Z710 won't boot past Lenovo splash screen (OS is Linux Mint)

My girlfriend's lenovo ideapad Z710 won't boot up past the Lenovo splash screen. She turned it on this evening and it just keeps refreshing to the Lenovo splash screen. She can't access the bios as far as I know, and she tried the CMOS battery thing as far as I'm aware and that didn't work. It won't boot into the OS and just keeps refreshing to the Lenovo splash screen. Any help would be appreciated. it's a fairly old laptop but it's needed and we can't seem to get it to boot up again.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So everything has been working fine on my laptop until about 10:30PM EST tonight. I bought it new in August 2011.
Specs:

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HD: 750 GB
BIOS: 45CN36WW

It's always been a fine machine with NO problems.
However, last night there were Windows 7 updates that were installed and then restarted my computer. I had not gotten a chance to check exactly what they were though. About 10:30 this evening, flash crashed in Mozilla Firefox which is not that uncommon, and from there Firefox closed, and so did my Microsoft Word and Excel apps that were open. From there, my computer began to shut down and restart. When it went to restart, all it could do was go to the opening Lenovo screen which gives you the F2 (setup option) and F12 (multiboot menu option) as it typically does. Besides a thin strip at the top that appeared after about 30 secs that only displays moving static that eventually will just stick, that is where the boot process ends. No Windows 7 screen, and certainly no opportunity to boot into safe mode to check for any problems. The screen freezes and goes nowhere.

So basically, all I'm getting in terms of boot options are lenovo features, not windows 7 features, meaning it won't boot into windows 7 or windows 7 safe mode no matter what I try. The biggest problem here is that I have no windows 7 disc to even try to boot from my dvd drive.

Anybody have any suggestions on what the probl... Read more

Are you able to get into the advanced boot menu by tapping F8? It might not be listed on the startup screen but it should still be there.

If not you can burn a repair disc from any PC with Windows 7. Theres steps from Microsoft Here.

Hi guys, I'm dealing with a problem which is currently (but I sincerely hope, not permanently) rendering my G700 useless. When I attempt to boot my PC it freezes at the Lenovo splash screen. I've waited ample amount of time but nothing appears to happen. One time I waited and managed to get into a Windows troubleshooting menu where I attempted to wipe the PC and start fresh, but this also froze at the lenovo screen soon after. Pressing the Novo button gives me 4 options but it appears to freeze, not allowing me to scroll through the options, or press enter. If I remove the harddrive it tells me to insert media and press OK, but once again, it appears to freeze as pressing enter doesn't do anything. I've tried booting from a USB stick but can't seem to get into any setting which would allow me to do this.I Removed DVD drive as I read on this forum that it was an issue with different Lenovo laptops, and since I don't use it anyway, decided to give it a go, but unfortunately nothing changed :-( If any kind soul could advise me with what I could possibly do, it be would be greatly appreciated as I'm dreading the thought of having to purchase a new laptop. Thanks :-)

I already tried it with a bootable USB with FreeDOS but it tells me that it is not possible because the EXE file of the BIOS is a Win32 program. EDIT: I solved the problem by installing Windows and updating the BIOS with the standard procedure, i.e. by running the EXE file and following the on-screen instructions, after which I reinstalled Linux Mint.

Laptop is running on Windows 10. Yesterday I updated my AMD graphics driver using the update tool from AMD. After all the necessary files were downloaded and installed, I was prompted to restart and I did. Upon restart, the laptop would not boot past the Lenovo screen. The white circles that rotate always freeze and it just stays on the Lenovo screen upon every attempt to boot. I can't enter safe mode or the bios options, what can I do to fix this?  P.S. A few months ago I began having an issue with the sleep mode. When trying to enter sleep mode, the laptop would just shut down unexpectedly and almost instantly. I'm not sure what caused this issue, but I've just been avoiding it by shutting down instead of sleeping. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, or if the restart was interrupted by an unexpected shutdown.

I have a new Lenovo E540 preloaded with OEM Win7 PRO 64 bit ... and no discs
- (other than an upgrade to Win8.1 PRO ... no thanks)

Q1: How do I make a recovery disc of the current Win7 PRO 64bit ?
- I have never done it before .. a recovery virgin.

So far ... when the Lenovo was started the OS was registered with MS but I declined any upgrades until the PC is carefully prepared and imaged before any use and exposure to the internet.
- registration of the OS was unavoidable because the Lenovo took possession as soon as the PC was booted.

The Lenovo is a clean machine , so I want it properly setup and imaged to simplify future maintenance.

Q2: At what point do I create partitions for ... ?
1. Win7 PRO
2. Linux OS -- Mint

Q3: For testing downloads should I create a dedicated test partition or just use a SandBoxie tool ?

Else where in this forum I read a post by Greg Rocker recommending to uninstall all the Toshiba crapware BUT I noticed that he recommended that some Toshiba stuff be retained.
Previously (again in this forum) I have read to dump branded laptop OEM all together and just use a generic OEM on a laptop.

I would be grateful for any guidance. Thank you

My Lenovo Ideapad Z710 works just fine most of the time, but when I try to play games, first some individual pixels and as time goes on the entire screen starts flickering until it?s almost impossible to play. If I turn off my graphics card, a NVIDIA GeForce GT 840M , it worked fine again. Now first of all, it would be nice to know whether anyone knows what the cause of this first problem is and how to fix it, as I would like to be able to use my regular graphics card when playing (enables me to play on a higher resolution). Added to that, I?ve now noticed that on other games, there is a flickering, without the pixel flickering first, no matter whether or not I deactivate my graphics card. Anyone have an idea where this problem could stem from?

Had a user call saying their computer wouldn't turn on.  Got there and it was stuck at the lenovo splash screen as soon as it boots.  I've brought it back and have tried nearly everything.  There are no POST codes while it boots up either.  The following troubleshooting steps have been taken:Reseated RAMRemoved 1 stick of RAMRemoved both sticks of RAM (I get the no RAM sequence of beeps)Disconnected HDDDisconnected Disk DriveDisconnected both drives at the same time.Reseated all power connections on moboPulled out CMOS batteryHeld Power Button while power was unplugged and battery was removedI don't know if there's any more steps other than getting a new motherboard.  I know you can update the BIOS with a USB or CD.  But if I can't even get past that screen is it possible for me to flash or update my BIOS?  This is pretty much the screen i'm getting.  Nothing else other than "lenovo".  This is not my picture though, as I have an M82 here.

Hello. As the title says, my Ideapad Y500 is starting to have some issues. A week ago it refused to shut down. Screen would turn off but not the laptop, which would remain kind of dormant. Following some advice online I uninstalled Express Cache form the Control Panel. Now the system turns off, but I have a new problem, this time booting up.Whenever I boot up the laptop it goes to the Lenovo splash screen, then black, then resets to the splash screen and stays there forever. If I shut it down manually and then boot it up again, it goes to Windows as it should, but the whole process takes from 2 to 10 minutes. If I try to restart the system, same thing happens.  If I keep doing this I fear one day it will just die on me.Added to this, I've been getting intermitent failures of the Intel RST software, which sometimes just won't work at all. Other times it's fine. I read somewhere I should update the drivers but I don't know where to find them or if hey may harm my pc even more.I'm running Windows 8.1 (64 bits). So far, besides uninstallid Express Cache, I have run chkdsk on both disks on my system and they appear to be fine (or at least nothing comes up when running the scan). Beyond this, I have no clue how to proceed. I'm not a especially tech savvy person, so any help you guys might give me will be greatly appreciated it. Also, if you can explain it as clear and simply as possible, it would be that much better. Thanks a lot!

My son accidentally got his leg caught in the cord of his laptop when he got up and the laptop  fell approximately 2 feet to the tile floor.  It boots up but stays on the Lenovo splash screen.  If I go into the BIOS and select System Recovery it goes through the "Loading files..." process, the Lenovo splash screen appears with the dots going in a circle but, then after about 2 minutes of that the screen just goes black.  If I tilt the screen forward or back I can tell it is still backlit just with nothing to display.  Anything we can try?

Last night I shut it off to bring it to class and when I got to class and tried to boot up, it wouldn't finish starting up, would sit at the logo screen for about 30 seconds before shutting down and starting over. The fans power up like it is going to start. It repeats this loop indefinitely. I tried holding the reset button next to the charger port and still nothing.  Suggestions?  Thanks

Hi to evreyone! So recently I bought a brand new Lenovo Z710 (i7-4700mq, intel hd 4600 and nvidia gt745m). I then installed windows 8.1 (genuine) and all the drivers on the cd that came with the machine. But it seems there is a big problem with the graphics card. Nvidia gt745 seems like its not there. The Geforce Experience and nvidia control panel fail to recognize it, although it's there on Windows Driver Manager. When I try to load a game (WOW) it crashes on the loading screen. "Display driver has stopped responding..." bubble appears and a minute or so afterwards, there is a bsod. The game works on the integrated card (intel hd 4600) when nvidia is disabled or its driver is uninstalled.I tried reinstalling the drivers, downloading and installing the recent ones, removing all graphic drivers and reintalling them in different order, tried safe mode, changed some bios settings, but still nothing happened.Could this be any kind of driver compatibility issue or simply a windows thing, or is it a hardware problem? Could the nvidia be faulty or the laptop itself? I want to try anything before turning it back to where I bought it for a look... So your ideas will be vastly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, I have an afterglow headset for gaming. It has a line out 3mm headphone jack on it, and a USB.
Usually, the USB controls the Mic, and the headphone jack controls the audio. But when I plug it in, the sound is coming through the USB (Chat volume), unless I plug it into another power source, like a wall charger for phones. Than the sound will come through the headphone/Line out jack, allowing me to use the Bass boost feature. My brother has the same headset, and it does the same on my computer, and I have no idea why. The sound sounds like garbage coming through the USB. Also my laptop only has one Line out jack. I think the Line in and Line out jacks are combined into one. I don't know if that is messing it up.
So when I have the USB and Line out plugged into my laptop, the sound level is controlled by moving the adjuster to the "Chat" volume, rather than the "Game volume". But if I plug the USB into a wall wart, and the headphone jack into the laptops line out jack, it's normal and controlled by the game volume adjuster on the headset. But than the MIC won't work since it's through the USB.
Any ideas??

A:Audio Issues With Lenovo Z710 Ideapad

1. Switching between UEFI and Legacy doesn?t work (I?ve tried all sorts of combinations and it doesn?t fix anything). Situations for what occurs in each of them are listed below.
2. My hard drive is making continuous beeping sounds.

? In UEFI: says ?EFI Network 0 for IPv4 (D8-97-BA-3D-D1-A3) boot failed?, then ?Checking Media?, and lastly to ?EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (D8-97-BA-3D-D1-A3) boot failed?. Afterwards it goes to the ?Default Boot Device missing or Boot Failed? screen. At the Boot Manager, only the IPv4 and IPv6 devices are available (even when I have other devices connected). If I click on one, it then says ?No Bootable Device - Restart System?

? In Legacy: it says ?Check Cable Connection! PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM?.

A:Lenovo Ideapad Z710 - No Bootable Device

Good day and welcome to the community.Sorry you're having difficulty.
The messages you're seeing mean that your hard drive is non-bootable, either a hardware failure or the Windows boot "stuff" is corrupt. When that happens, the BIOS tries to step through boot-up options, and often the last is an attempt to boot from a network server (via PXE boot).

If you boot your machine to its BIOS, is the HDD even showing on the Startup tab? If not, it's most likely a true hardware issue.Regards.

When i got it, everything was alright, but after some time, my laptop coulnd't power on from just the battery, he needed an ac adapter od he would report 190 critical battery error. I kinda fixed this issue by not shuting the laptop down if i intended on unplugging it, but putting it in sleep mode, which from he can wake up even with no ac power. One night i left my laptop unplugged, battery connected and in sleep mode the entire night. When i woke up, the laptop had 0 charge in it and couldn't wake from sleep. No leds, no beeps, nothing. Plugged it back in- it powers on normally. The problem is, the laptop no longer sees any of my 2 batteries, unless its on the charger, the laptop acts as if there is no power at all. He doesnt react to the power button, so no leds, no beeps, no bios flashscreens- nothing. On charger it still works perfectly normal.

I would try resetting the BIOS using the jumper, or by taking out the CMOS battery, wait a minute or two, and then replace it and try booting up. See page 73 of the Hardware Maintenance Manaul linked below for location of the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper (# 20) https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m83m93p_hmm.pdf Clearing the CMOS (BIOS)1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer. 2. Remove the computer cover. 3. Locate the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper on the system board. 4. Move the jumper from the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2) to the maintenance position (pin 2 and pin 3). 5. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. 6. Turn on the computer and leave it on for approximately 10 seconds. Then, turn off the computer by holding the power switch for approximately five seconds. 7. Repeat step 1 through step 2. 8. Move the Clear CMOS /Recovery jumper back to the standard position (pin 1 and pin 2). 9. Reinstall the computer cover and connect the power cord. Good Luck,

To make a long story short, I've been asked to help fix a friends mom's U410 laptop which wasnt activiting Windows 8.1 properly (Was Windows 8 OOB). After struggling with the activation for a few hours, I backed up the data and decided to just run the Lenovo one key recovery. During the recovery process, the installation had failed. When I attemped to reboot, no Lenovo splash screen was loading - just a black screen (although i can hear the cooling fan start, and hear the harddrive spin up. I tried to access the boot menu thru the novo button, and nothing would load; still a black screen. After researching for a few more hours, I had found multiple threads about bios updates required to be able to access bios with windows 8, and other threads about gpus on these units booting to a second screen (which i did test, and the second monitor does indicate a signal). None of the solutions on those threads have given positive results.   Basically, I've run out of options and am looking for some suggestions. The only thing that shows up on the display at anytime is the small blue novo menu when the button is pressed (normal start up, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery - all of which just leave a black screen). Thanks.

Hey all, I'm brand new to the forums, but I've used the site countless times to help solve problems I've had with various computers.

I'm usually not one to directly ask for computer help, being the acclaimed "Computer Guy" in my circle of friends and family, it takes a little too long to get an answer if I need to fix something fast, but this case is a little different.

A few weeks ago my friend bought a brand new Lenovo Ideapad Z710 laptop pre-installed with Win8. I "Upgraded" to Win7 for him, as neither of us can stand the new OS. Usually I have no trouble reinstalling drivers after installing a new OS, but for some reason his touchpad driver will NOT install.

I'm using the official driver for his computer, it's apparently a synaptics driver and it says it should work completely fine with Win7, but when I try to run the installation, I get the error "Synaptics Device Not Found!"

There are a few issues that I believe are related to the driver not being installed that may tell you guys something. When he closes his laptop lid and open it again, his mouse jumps over the screen endlessly, and he cannot use the computer until he restarts. Also, he can't turn his touchpad off, which I assume is a function that comes with the driver.

Any help or input is greatly appreciated, if you need any more information please feel free to ask.

Thanks again,
-Tyler

Hi Azadkv,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I?m sorry to hear that your G500 Laptop is not booting to Windows and hanging at Lenovo Logo and the issue persists even after performing Flee-Power step. Hence, I suggest to perform BIOS reset and check if the issue persists. Below are the steps to perform BIOS reset:

To access BIOS menu turn OFF the Laptop and press the NOVO button located beside power button.
Then to reset the BIOS to its defaults click on ?F9? Key and select YES.
Now click on ?F10? Key to save the changes that are done in BIOS, the computer will automatically restart.

Do post us back if the issue persists.

Best Regards

Shiva Kumar

Okay, so my Lenovo N580 IdeaPad with i3 processor is stuck at the splash screen, aka the black screen with Lenovo written on it in bold white letters. I tried removing the battery, then putting it back on, then pressing power button for 45 secs. I also tried pressing the the Novo button (the small round and black button besides the power button) but the screen shows no change and does not go to bios/reset menu on pressing f9/f12 too. What else can I do to get my laptop back on? Please help, all my project work is on my laptop

Dear CPVirani, Welcome in lenovo community, Please try to : 1- Remove the battery and the charger >> Hold on the power button for 20 seconds.2-Connect the charger only >> Hold on the power button for 10 seconds.3-Try to turn on the laptop. Regards,Joseph

Hello all, I've been trying to figure out an issue with no luck. I'm servicing a M900z 2-in-1 desktop that seems to sometimes hang at the Lenovo splash screen. Sometimes when booting, a 9C or B4 will appear on the bottom right, hanging at the splash screen. What I have tried:- Re-seating Memory & HD. Flashing the BIOS. Re-imaged machine. Checked & updated drivers. Checked for windows updates & all is updated. I used chkdsk utility, along with SFC, & no errors were found. Could the hanging potentially be a hardware issue? This issue seems to be very intermittent - I've had the desktop at my desk for a few days, performing lots of restarts. In the BIOS, it boots directly to the HD. Sometimes it will boot right away & not hang, while other times it will hang for awhile, & eventually boot. When it doesn't boot, I constantly have to restart the machine and eventually it will boot.  Thanks for any support.

The first thing I look at if a machine hangs at startup is the USB ports.  Physical damage can create shorts which cause these symptoms.  Check for bent pins or a tongue broken off.

Hi guys So i recently ran into a problem, when i try to boot my laptop it will hang at the lenovo splash screen and it will be like that for a long time if i dont turn it off. I tried disconnecting main battery and bios battery, it did help but when i shut it down for like 3 hours came back and turned it on back again it was stuck at splash screen again. I also noticed that when it stuck during boot and i shut it down from the power button and turn the laptop on again its booting normally. Also tried removing all usb devices and booting the laptop and it still does the same hangs at the splash screen. Please guys help. Best regards Gerard
