Stumbleupon Breaks After Firefox Update

Q: Stumbleupon Breaks After Firefox Update

Today, Firefox updated itself to the latest version. Also, it updated an addon I have installed called flashget. I'm not sure which caused the problem but I suspect it was flashget, but I can't prove it.

The error I experienced was that when I clicked the Stumble button, I would always get sent to this URL: ht.tp://s.kuaiche.com/so/index.html (note, I put an extra dot in the http part so it won't turn into a link).

Anyway, I was able to ix it by uninstalling then reinstalling StumbleUpon. Have any other Stumblers out there come across this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,I have been lurking bleepingcomputer as a non-member for a while now. I typically am able to find the instructions to fix almost any problem a computer (be it mine or a friends) has from your forum. Now it seems I am unable to find the solution to my specific problem, so I finally signed up as a member! My problem is similar to all these redirect virus issues I have been reading, but slightly different and not quite the same. Here's the problem:Randomly when I am browsing the internet, every now and again a site that I come across (typically while using StumbleUpon [Firefox Add-On]) will redirect to some completely random site. It doesn't appear to follow any pattern, and has redirected to various different websites. The websites I am redirected to are rarely the same website I was redirected to before, the only exception being theclickcheck.com and yellowpages.com, both of these websites I have been redirected to more than once. Additionally, even if I don't have a browser open a pop-up will appear in a new window. If a browser is open, the pop-up window error will occur more frequently it seems(in a separate window, not a separate tab). Also, I noticed each redirect or pop-up goes through google-analytics.com, so this may still be the google redirect virus, but I am unsure.I have had this issue for about a week now, and I have been unable to get the time to really find the problem. I wish to do online banking, bill paying, and the what not but fear that... Read more

So, I just updated 3 machines with update 1.14393.187 I have Firefox as default browser on all 3 machines. After reboot shortcuts .URL in links on desktop won't open by default. Message ''unknown file type do you want to open this file''.

The fix is to go to user folder and reset default location of favorites moving all files with it. Copy all favorites files from new location. Create a new Favorites folder in old location. Paste folders from default location to new folder. Move favorites location to new folder. DO NOT REPLACE FOLDERS when prompted.

Problem solved on all 3 machines.

Hi all, really hoping for some help.

I have been trying to set up my older (2008) laptop with a clean install of windows 7 ultimate / 32 bit.
The reason to do this is because I was given a SSD drive and wanted to set up a 100% fresh system.
This laptop was before running just fine on the same windows version, but from a HDD.

My problem is this: I run a new setup for windows, no problems. I run windows update and it starts with updating to a new update agent Version 7.6.7600.256. No problems, I receive some updates including SP1. After installing SP1 I get the mandatory update to update to Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 and windows update just breaks. When I start it just searches for updates forever but never finds any.(after hours)

Now, my PC is running the same windows version and updates just fine. Also, I have tried to do clean installs on several systems and they ALL have the exact same problem. I even did installs on all these systems with different W7 versions (Home and PRO) and still the exact same problem, as soon as Update Agent 7.6.7600.320 gets installed it all grinds to a halt.

I have tried all kinds of solutions I found on the internet including a repair tool from tweaking.com (Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Free/Pro) which combines most solutions suggested like disk and file system checks. I also changed DNS settings to the Google DNS and of course tried the MS Fix it tool and also ran CCCleaner. I have tried so many things I don't even remember them all.

I believe it is a certain update that is breaking something in IE. Perhaps an Active X control? Requests trickle in occasionally from users reporting their Business Portal has stopped working. The work-around is to open Microsoft Business Portal using IE 64bit. While doable, that is a bit of a hassle.

Here's a screen shot:

When clicking on "Document Number" under the Time Card area.. the right empty portion of the page should populate with the time card information.

Does this sound familiar to anyone and/or has anyone come up with a solution? Aside from picking through the installed updates, identifying the update, and uninstalling it?

This update makes it so my PC will NOT be able to connect to the internet.

I had Factory Reset and what not.

So, I had the problem happen to me again, but I noticed my PC updated when I was out for the day, and came back after a long day to see my PC was at the sign in screen and my network was unable to connect to the internet again. I was quite upset at this, looked around in my PC, factory reset it again and then thought, "Maybe it updated" and what do you know?... I find this update.

So, either something in my PC does not agree to this Window's update, or the update itself is faulty. I do not know why, and my PC keeps trying to force this update after shutdown/scheduled install.

Anyone know what's up or how to stop the force update?

I am volunteering my time to a local fire department and they just received two laptops from Dell today. They are both Vostros with i3 processors and Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I took them and am cleaning them up from the "trial" and "bloatware" that is on them. I found the Windows update failed with update Error 80072ee2.

Here is what fixed it:

I went into the registry and found:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU

"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001

I deleted the entry for UseWUServer (at first I just tried setting it to 0, but did not resolve the problem)and restarted the system. Now the updates work just fine.

Hello all I'm new to the forum and I like to say a warm hello and ask for help.

I migrated from from hdd to ssd on my Samsung series 7 laptop today and everything has gone very well with the exception of windows updates which are now non functioning. I have tried both the DISM and sfc/scannow procedures as well as numerous other possible solutions I have come across during the day.

I am now truly at a loss as to how to fix the issue, the error code coming up is 80070490. If you can help I will be in your debt.
Kind regards,
Peter

A:Otherwise successful migration to SSD breaks Win update

The error number seems to mean "Element not found."

So it might be appropriate to ask how you migrated the system to the SSD?

If the old drive has been removed so it can not conflict with the new one, and you moved the partitions over correctly, there should be some mention of the errors in either the Event Viewer, or the WindowsUpdate.log in the Windows partition. You can copy the log to the desktop to read it. Look for something that mentions error or fatal error.

You may be getting errors in the Event Viewer about the Windows Store, if it was related to the logon account.

If I install Windows 8.1 and run Sysprep / Generalize / Shutdown, it works fine.

However, I have tried running all Windows updates (220+ updates).  I then attempted to run Sysprep / Generalize / Shutdown.  After a while, it displays a message that 'A fatal error occurred while trying to Sysprep the machine'.

I have looked at numerous articles about the SkipRearm issues and unattend.xml file [ not using one ] with the register key value changes, etc.  None of the articles have fixed the issue.  Apparently, one of the recent Microsoft updates 'breaks'
Sysprep.  However, I am pressed for time on these images and do not have time to do process of elimination to figure out which one it is.

My wifi suddenly stopped working on December 9 following a Windows 10 Update. Device Manager says that a working driver is installed for the device, but Network Connections says I have NO wifi device.  The airplane mode switch allows me to turn Bluetooth on and off, but has no switch for wifi.
I rolled back the Windows Updates to November, and my wifi reappeared and worked fine.  Unfortunately, after 10 minutes it vanished again.  I soon realized that WIndows Update had automatically installed the December update again and re-broken my wifi!  I repeated this cycle a few times, as there is no user interface for telling WIndows Update to not install things.
In the end, I went to Services and disabled the Windows Update Service.  Done.  Now my wifi works, and it stays fixed.
This is not a satisfying solution, as it means that I will NEVER run Windows Update again.  At least not until I turn the service back on.  But when will I know it is safe??  Do I have to try every month after each Windows 10 Update is released?  Ugh.
Help please.

Hi All,

Has anybody come across this before?

This morning I had a notification that my defender in Windows 8 was out of date and needed updating which I went ahead with.

After the restart I was presented with my login screen.

After logging in I get to the tiles screen but there are no tiles.

If I press the windows key + d I get to my desktop but the wallpaper is gone and I just have a black background with my Firefox icons etc but I can't run anything.

I can't start the control panel from the pc setting option when I move my mouse to the right of the screen but I can eventually get to the control panel if I go back to the desktop and start explorer.exe from the task manager. In the task manager there is nothing running which looks strange, I thought normally there would be lots of things listed as running

If I check my updates I can see defender was successfully updated this morning but I pretty much have an unusable system.

This happened not too long ago also and I ended up doing a clean install as I could not find a way around this and did not have time to find out what the issue was.

Can anybody help with this or am I basically facing a clean installation again?

I checked if I could go back to an earlier restore point but it tells me there are no restore points.

I also disabled defender for now to see if that helped but it's still the same.

Thanks and regards

A:Defender update kb2267602 breaks my installation?

I created a new account which logged in ok although it does seem slow to login.

What I did notice after the upgrade and restart to defender is that it displayed the standard Windows welcome screens like after you do a new installation.

Hello all, I have recently done a completely clean install of Windows 10 on my Y40-70. I am experiencing two graphics related issues: 1. The latest Intel HD Graphics Driver update breaks the display. When either updated by Windows Update, or myself from Lenovo's website (link), the update causes the screen to immediately go blank and stay that way until I go into safe mode, and disable the driver in Windows Device Manager. 2. I am unable to use the AMD graphics card (Radeon R9 M275). Currently Device Manager tells me that the driver for the device is up to date (15.200.1050.0) but Catalyst Control Manager cannot see the card, and nothing I can do will make the machine switch to that card. I have tried multiple times cleanly uninstalling all AMD everything, and reinstalling from both Lenovo's site and AMD's, to no avail. I imagine that these problems are related, but I'm not sure how. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

By immediately after Office 2010 completed installation I always check and download Office updates, Surprisingly this time I was greeted with "WindowsUpdate_8024402F" "WindowsUpdate_dt000" After doing a bit of advanced Google search I found out that the error may be related to any one the the following

1. This issue may occur when you are using proxy sever or router : I don't use a proxy server. I checked and checked. So this is really not what broke Windows update.

2. You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates : Nope. I'm always connected. Not this too.

3. It might also mean that a program running on your computer is preventing Windows Update Services from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs, or proxy servers : This has to be it! But the only program that I have installed right now is Google Chrome, CCleaner, Picasa, K-lite Mega Codec pack, AND Office 2010. That's it. Since i was able to install updates before installing Office 2010 I'm pretty sure it was responsible for me to rant about it here!

If you have Windows 7 set to automatically update every Tuesday, it may be to permanently disable that feature. Microsoft has just confirmed that a recent update ó specifically KB 3004394 ó is causing a range of serious problems and recommends removing it. The first issue that caught my attention, via AMDís Robert Hallock, is that KB 3004394 blocks the installation or update of graphics drivers such as AMDís new Catalyst Omega. I have a recent home-build computer using an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard and AMD FX8350 that replaced a dual Xeon motherboard based home build from 2007 that died. It has a RealTek ALC892 on-board audio chipset and it was great for about a week until Monday, when it died after rebooting for Windows Update. A headset was plugged in, and the RealTek HD Audio Manager, which opens when you plug or unplug something to do with sound, went into a loop where it announced that I had plugged in headphones, then plugged in a microphone, then unplugged headphones, then unplugged microphone, which repeated until I unplugged the headset. The computer now produces no sound.

During boot before the sound drivers are installed, occasional clicks and bumps are barely audible from the speakers. When the audio driver loads, there is a quiet click and they grow silent. Unfortunately, they remain silent, no matter what I do (see below). Right-clicking on the audio icon in the taskbar and selecting "Playback devices" produces a screen that shows the speakers as selected as default, and selecting that enables a pushbutton that produces a screen in which the speakers can be tested. I have RealTek on both a Gigabyte Z77 motherboard (with an i7 3770 CPU) and an ASUS Z77 motherboard (with an i5 3550 CPU) and the sound has worked OK on both Win 7 64 bit and Win 8/8.1 as both systems have dual boot. Both systems are up to date with Windows updates.

I can't say about all of your software and Windows 8.1. I do know you need the latest version of Aconis, older versions do not work with Win 8 (I used to use Acronis and went to Macrium Reflect). I have Office 2003 and its not supposed to work on Win 8/8.1 but it works OK. I have the latest Nero and it is no problem. I have a (home) recording studio and all my software (I use Sonar) and all my hardware devices work the same in 'Win 7 and Win 8.

Back to your sound problem. The first suggestion is to reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers. The chipset drivers identify (define) all the devices on the motherboard. They are key to the on-board audio working correctly, although other problems can also cause sound device problems. But, I would, as a first step, reinstall the chipset drivers.

Upgrading Intel wireless driver on Intel AC-3165 to 18.40.0.9 causes wifi to fail and cannot find any access points within range. The upgrade adds a 'new' device to device manager called 'Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter'. This new device has a yellow exclamation next to it. Uninstaling the new device does not resolve the issue. Only rolling back the driver to 18.33.0.1 or 18.32.1.2 recovers wifi connectivity. Can someone please explain how to troubleshoot this? Thanks.

As the title says: Update KB3176493 breaks Windows Live Mail (2012); it will not receive emails from a POP3 server, just gives a "Your POP3 server has not responded in 60 seconds ..." message, with error code 0x800CCC19.

Interestingly, I have a Windows 10 laptop, which did not get update KB3176493; it got KB3176495 (and I've no idea what the difference is - perhaps its for a different base version of Windows 10. No problem with Windows Live Mail on that machine after the update.

I was just reading my daily news feeds and came across a story on Ars Technica that mentioned the January Reliability and Stability update for Windows 7 (KB977074) actually causing more stability and reliability problems then it solves. I went digging, and sure enough, there are multiple reports on the MS Technet forums about this update. In one case, the post marked as an answer by a MS moderator states to hide this update for the time being.http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums...3e-bcac1ac94e57In some cases, the update will not install, randomly freezing upon restart after the initial install, never actually completing and forcing the computer to revert to before it was installed. In other cases, it causes some performance issues, like certain programs not shutting down properly and causing the system to fail to power down at shut down.So in short, if you haven't installed this one yet, you may want to refrain from doing it until a new reliability and stability update is issued from MS.

It installed fine on my Win 7, I wonder what the problem/conflict is?

A:Entrust Encryption BREAKS Windows 8 Update and Defender

After testing I was able to trace the problems caused by installing "Entrust Entelligence Security Provider 9.2" for Windows down to a set of registry keys.  By adding and removing these keys on a fresh Windows 8 VM without entrust, the many issues
we were experiencing with Windows 8 could be reproduced and then fixed by removing the same keys (windows update, windows defender, windows troubleshooting, etc...).  So far everything appears to be working after installing Entrust in
Windows 8, removing these keys, and then rebooting the machine:

So my computer recently did an automatic update, but when it started back up it was completely impossible to connect to any network. The pre-bundled software that came with my wi-fi adapter crashed to desktop whenever it started up (manually started or on computer startup). I also could not access adapter settings in the Windows control panel. It would not even open the window for it. So I went into settings and went back to the previous update and the problem went away, but now it keeps reinstalling this update every time i restart my computer.

My current thoughts and I might be wrong:
-The update wasn't downloaded properly and it keeps reinstalling from a broken cache. (Are windows updates cached on my PC?)
-The update is bugged and I need to find out how to disable automatic updates until this is resolved.
-Nothing is wrong with the update, it just doesn't like my current configurations.

A:Windows update breaks wi-fi. Keeps reinstalling after rolling back.

Can you connect with Ethernet cable? Let the computer update. Press the Win key+X and choose Device Manager. Expand Network Adapters. Right click your WiFi adapter, choose Properties/Driver/Roll Back Driver to the driver that was working before.
If that is not an option, please provide the make and model# of your computer/motherboard. Go to the manufacturers support/download drivers site and download the WiFi driver for your make and model #.

I have an HP Envy 34 AIO and had the same thing happen. I tried to roll back the drivers, but to no avail. I also did a system restore to gain back connectivity, but the updates kept coming. Ultimately, I had to use an Ethernet cable to get connected. Hopefully another update will come out soon to re-enable the Wi-Fi adapter.

I hope this is in the right section - as I do not suffer from any malware I placed it here in the software and not security section.

A quick question on stumbleupon, im not sure on how many are familiar with this IE/FF extrension but I have just installed it on both. One question bothers me, how are the sites chosen for stumbleupon and more inportantly how much of a security risk does this pose in the sense of redirection to dangerouse sites.

A:Stumbleupon & Security

Hi their website tells us the sites you would visit are chosen by other users.
Sites users have Stumbled upon.
Security risk maybe..my question would be how could such a site be monitored?
What sort of sites are allowed to be recommended to others?
That being said Pc World ranked Stumbledupon one of the 100 best products or the year.

In our testing environment MBSA, stops working after installing KB4015546.
Security assessment: Incomplete Scan
//snip//
Scan date: 4/12/2017 8:31 PM
Scanned with MBSA version: 2.3.2208.0
Catalog synchronization date: 2017-04-10T21:31:59Z
Security Updates Scan Results
Issue:  Security Updates
Score:  Unable to scan
Result: Cannot load security CAB file

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?  This is a big deal in our organization because our systems are all disconnected from the Internet, so we rely on MBSA for primary verification that patches have been installed before deploying to the larger base.
This problem has been reproduced on Windows Server 2008 R2.

I just a applied the latest Windows Update patches to my Windows 7 PC and after rebooting found that my Dell smartcard reader keyboard was no longer showing up on my RDP sessions (Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Servers).

After some investigation I discovered that by removing update 2830477 that it returned to normal and my reader appeared again. I also noted that the prerequisite patches, 2574819 & 2857650, are installed as needed.

Is there something we need to do differently with the new version of the RDP client provided by 2830477 as we cannot see any difference in the settings.

Hello, I'll start off by saying that this question is unlikely to be answered and will probably make most wonder why I'd even post it but I'll explain why.

So the issue is that I need to patch a decent amount of Windows 7 PC's with a large amount of updates (295, except not every PC needs every patch, it's just an SCCM update group that contains them all). I've inherited this issue in case anyone asks why I
have so many outstanding patches.
I deployed all the required ones to my PC as a test and when I logged back on, Libraries was broken. By broken I mean there was now a libraries icon on my desktop (maybe it was there before but it at least moved to make me notice it) and the default libraries
were gone. The libraries folder was empty. I can create new libraries manually but clicking 'Restore default libraries' does nothing.

The other issue is that if I try to create any new folder at a network location or locally (not in libraries, this is separate), and give it a name, an error appears saying "Could not find this item. This is no longer located at <location>. Verify
the items location and try again". If you click try again, the folder is created with the name. If you click cancel, the folder is created but is called 'New Folder'. </location>
<location>These 2 results did not please me so I deployed to another PC as a test and got the exact same result. Great, so it will more than likely happen to all PC's. I've since found out a ... Read more

I installed the BIOS version 2.46 (rel. 12/18/2017) today for my T440p and after the flash, my fingerprint reader stopped working. In Windows device manager it reports an unknown USB device which has "descriptor request failed". Then I entered the BIOS config and found that the fingerprint reader was not detected at all even out of the OS. Under security tab I tried to reset fingerprint data and it said that no fingerprint reader was detected. Now I have rolled back to the last BIOS version 2.44 and the fingerprint reader started to work again. I am aware that the latest 2.46 addresses the meltdown exploit so please investigate and fix this problem... Thanks,

Last night (4/6/2017) an automatic Windows update just now decided to install the most recent Synaptics driver (titled Synaptics - Mouse - 1/11/2017 12:00:00 AM - 19.3.4.66), which apparently is nearly 3 months old at this point.  One thing this update seems to have fixed is an issue I?ve been having with my ThinkPads for upwards of 7 years ? randomly it resets my mouse wheel 'number of lines scrolled per notch' option back to 1 (I prefer 3) pretty much daily, which is a HUGE annoyance, so I?m very grateful for this update and I?d like to keep it. However, it also completely disabled middle click scrolling with my TrackPoint (yes, I have ?Use for scrolling? checked under the TrackPoint settings).  The middle button does nothing now, unless I check ?Use as middle click?.  Rolling back the Synaptics driver to the previous one fixes this issue. Confoundingly, the TrackPoint scrolling with my ThinkPad Bluetooth keyboard still works fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?  Any ideas how to re-enable TrackPoint scrolling on this newest driver? System details:ThinkPad P50 ? All was well until creator update hit. My desktop icons do not display and there is only one screen identified as 1|2. Turns out I don't NEED the port replicator on this new laptop - I have enough ports on it to make it all wok so I want to get rid of the replicator. I uninstalled the software (displayLink and the HP port replicator stuff) and I still have this nonsense:I have also tried to create a new item with the right click menu and it got created because it is on the desktop  but nothing is showing on my desktop on the screen.I think that there is some problem with display mapping and the default desktop. How do I get all this straighened out?

Greetings,As Microsoft has been forcing this out on several of our laptops in the field, we're seeing a consistent pattern of this breaking the touchpad. It works periodically but also stops working quite frequently.   Simply re-installing the drivers do not help as the ones in the support section are very old.  I tried the newer drivers for the Y720's (which we have been considering to buy to replace our older Y70/Y700's) to no avail. Does anyone have any tips or tricks?  The Synaptics site does not appear to have any downloads either and reversing the update is not successful on a few laptops which are now basically useless without plugging in an external mouse. Thank you!

Allright, I've been banging my head all morning on this wonderful monday mystery. We have got T460s i5 6200u specced machines for our clients that typically need docks, either the Pro or Ultra's.  We have had no issues with monitor output on the docks with Windows 10 enterprise 64bit with Anniversary. However, we are now starting to roll out our the imagages on the T460s laptops with  KMS server Enterprise Windows 10 with Creator Update. Since then, I have not been able to get any new T460s to reliably output via VGA, Displayport or DVI through an ultra or pro dock.  With the laptop lid closed and with full power running, and just the LCD laptop screen off, the docks refused to output to any monitor. Only when you slightly open the lid will the monitor output on the docks "wake up" finally up.  Monitor output does work if you have the laptop lid open when docking but neither are a real good solution The lenovo update has been run and  everything is updated included dock firmware.  I've disabled sleep mode just to make this easier with docking and undocking
