trojan still exists on my computer?

Q: trojan still exists on my computer?

I have had my HP laptop for about a year and a half running windows vista. Early on I only had AVG as an antivirus and I recall it popped up on one or two occasions showing I had a trojan on my computer--I don't recall the name. Recently I received Webroot antivirus and antispyware free from a friend and it detected a few things, that it identifies by these names: trojan wimad-m, trojan.gen, app/kilit-a, app coupbar-gen, and some random cookies. I have since downloaded many more programs. Here are what they are and what they found:

spybot- nothing
AVG 8.5- nothing
ccleaner-cleaned many files
malwarebytes- rogue.winantivirus
ad-aware- random cookies
super antispyware- random tracking cookies

As for my odd symptoms, I only have the webroot program running continuously and it has a small box that pops up in the lower right hand corner of my screen saying it is blocking my computer from accessing random sites... none of which I can recall right now because it doesn't happen all the time. There were however many many of them (hundred?) and yahoo searches of the websites showed they were not to be trusted. Also while I'm on the internet over a period of time, it progressively gets slower, and opening the task manager showes when its slow that iexplore.exe is using sometimes upwards of 500,000 k.

Recently I've run all the programs I listed earlier in both normal and safe mode and they don't find anything. I know trojans can be tricky thought and I would appreciate greatly any help I receive. A huge thank you in advance, and I will be happy to provide anymore information you may need. I will try to be quick to reply but I work away from the computer all day so please be patient.

Preferred Solution: trojan still exists on my computer?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I could use some advice about this.

I'm not sure whether this is another one of these scams to get you to buy the product, or whether is has genuinely found a trojan.

There's supposedly a gert0.dll file in "C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp" folder, but when I go in there, it's no-where to be found - it's not a hidden file either.

"clear out the temp files directory" I hear you say. But how do you delete something that only seems to be found using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (which btw, it tells me it can't be removed without rebooting my PC; but when I do that - and even in Safe Mode - it still appears to be there)

I've tried running UnHack Me, MSE, Spybot S&D, SUPERAntispyware, Prevx and ThreatFire (plus I've used HijackThis), but none of them show anything.

So do I need to clean the cache of Malwarebytes or something (already used CCleaner but made no difference; what else would I use?), or could it possibly be a genuine threat?

The trojan's name is Trojan.Qhosts btw. I've just finished running Symantec Trojan.Qhosts Fix tool, and that hasn't found anything either.
On another note, I've got something called HNQLQ.SYS in my systems folder, but a Google search has found nothing on it at all.

A:A trojan that exists but does not? (gert0.dll)

If you restart your computer in Safe Mode and open your Temp folder, do you see a file named gert0.dll? If so, it's malware, and you should delete it.

Norton detected a Trojan threat earlier, I followed the guidelines from the "this topic" link and then generated a HJT log. I also notice with Security Task Manager, certain processes appear and disappear periodically, i.e., lsass.exe, smss.exe, crsrr.exe and lots of other *.exe files. In "services", the start-up type of RCP is greyed-out that I don't have a choice to disable the service at start-up.

A:Download.trojan Threat - Cannot Delete B779v12[1].dll Because File No Longer Exists

Hello whyMeNow? and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I do not see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean.A couple of comments:- if the file b779v12[1].dll does not exist why would it need to be deleted?- I do not believe that you can stop the RCP service with CheckPoint VPN client installed. CheckPoint would be able to verify that.- I do not know how STM reports the services running. Seeing a service come and go might just be the way STM handles the services. Try taking a look at the standard windows Task Manager and see if the services come and go along with what STM is showing. If not, then that's simply how STM is reporting the information.Additional information for non- operating system software can be obtained in the All other Applications forum. Someone theremight be able to better answer those questions.Cheers.OT

IE no longer exists in my programs file.  I tried to download IE but message says cannot install because I already have a more current version.  I have IE file folders in which there are a few files, .ins, text, .xml.  No others.  The
.ins files allows me to "extract".  When attempting to do so, Windows does not recognize the .ins file type, which seems odd as I understand .ins is a windows extension.  It will not allow me to open and when following the links to locate
a program that will open it, I get 3rd party web sites wanting me to run THEIR registry fixing program.  HELP!  I am running Win 7.  Thank you.

A:IE no longer exists on my computer

See my response to Robert Dyer-- above.  Any other thoughts on the issue.

I don't think you have responded to this question:
Is Internet Explorer (or possibly Internet Explorer 11) listed in...

Programs and Features | Turn Windows features on or off

But if what you see there is  Internet Explorer 11  and it is unchecked it would explain all your symptoms.  Unchecking that option is designed to hide  iexplore.exe  and its shortcuts.
However, it is actually a GUI implementation of a DISM command and some other browsers apparently exploit that and perhaps somehow even hide the option in Windows Features.
So in case you don't even see the option to check in that list here is a way to get started at looking at the DISM side of it.
The easiest way is to start an Administrator: Windows PowerShell and there enter:
PS C:\windows\system32> Get-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online | where {$_.FeatureName -match "Internet"}

Just paste and enter the bold stuff.  The directory level doesn't matter.  I'm leaving that in the example as another reminder to be sure that you are using a PowerShell window which is
elevated.  If you like you can get into one simply by entering  powershell.exe  in an
elevated cmd window (aka Administrator Command Prompt).

My computer will exit a game right when it loads up, this gets really annoying. I've been having some popups lately from something called messenger service saying my registry is messed up and stuff. Someone please help me.

A:Computer exists games when they start up

You may want to post this in the GAMES forum, along with your specific system specs (video card, processor, RAM, OS). Try to be a little bit more specific, also... what games are crashing? Is there any type of error message or does the computer just shut down? Does it reboot or shutdown? Etc...

Right off the bat I would suggest getting a registry cleaner if you're getting registry errors. I use a program called Registry Mechanic, which I believe is free upon initial download. Unfortunately I don't have a link to it handy, but I'm sure that a quick Google search will turn it up.

Dear Bleeping Computer GURU's,
It's been a while, yet I heard about this "badBIOS" infection? Is this a
HOAX, or real? If so, is there a BOOT-CD, to obtain, and remove the
infections, or does it require a professional trip to a service center?
How do I know or how do I find out, my new or old computer has the
badBIOS virus on it, and how much would it cost?
Thank You..
Michael.. irishmantx

A:How do I know the BAD-BIOS exists and how to save my Computer?

Bios/UEFI (firmware) virus's exist but are very rare. Researchers have demonstrated in a test environment proof-of-concept viruses that could modify the flash BIOS or install a rootkit on the BIOS of some systems so that it could survive a reformat and reinfected a clean disk. This type of malware exists primarily in-the-wild and is not generic...meaning it's vendor specific and cannot modify all types of BIOS. Although in February 2015, Kaspersky Labs reported "persistent, invisible espionage malware inside the firmware of hard drives compatible with nearly all major hard drive brands: Seagate, Western Digital, Samsung". This particular threat targeted government and military institutions, telecom and energy companies, nuclear research facilities, oil companies, encryption software developers, and media outlets.NSA malware found hiding in hard drives for almost 20 yearsEquation Group: The Crown Creator of Cyber-EspionageThis is a quote from my Security Colleague, Elise who works with the Emsisoft Anti-Malware Research Team.Firmware is typically a small piece of software coded directly into a device (for example a video card or DVD writer) necessary for the device to function correctly. This code is highly device-dependent, different manufacturers and different models all require specific firmware. For that reason a firmware infection is not only highly unlikely but also very impractical for a malware writer. Someone who wants to create a successful infection not only needs t... Read more

I recently installed a problem called EnhanceMySe7en and tried a few tweaks however things didn't really turn out as I had planned.

I made a system restore point before I made the changes, but then when I tried to restore it back, it says there were no points available ... Thats wierd coz I've made 3 restore points over the last 3 days as I've been changing stuff.

Anyways I would love it if anyone knows a possible fix for the problems I've encounterd.

1) The "my computer" link has dissapeared from the start menu (no option to re-add in the startmenu properties)
2) When I open "my computer" shorcut from rocketdock I get no drives showing up
3) Option to add my computer icon to desktop greyed out
4) "My computer" is no longer in the left pane of explorer (libraries and network etc are still there). It means I can't browse to my files. I can only if it lets me type in an address like C:\windows etc... but in some browse dialogs I'm locked out completely
5) Another unrelated issue in my shutdown menu. I have logoff, sleep, hibernate, restart options in my shutdown menu, but no shutdown

I suspect with the My Computer issue that its deleted some registry keys pointing to it... please let me know if you have any ideas how to fix it. Thanks

A:"My computer" no longer exists

I've not located any registry key for the 'Computer' shortcut. Does the software you used have an option to restore a previous tweak?

It's the only option I can think of.

Hi,This is a business computer and it is very important that it runs properlyNot sure if you're aware how severly infected this computer is.Since you are posting a log from a Company owned computer... There are a few things that need attention first before we proceed with this..* You must inform your Supervisor immediately. This because of:Most company machines are connected into a network at some time or other, and your infection may compromise the security of that network. If sensitive material is compromised by an infection, your company could be held liable.* Your Company must give permission for us to give you assistance. This because of:We are not here to replace your company's IT Department. If there's an IT Department, then they are responsible to deal with this. There may be sensitive material on your computer that your company would not want revealed in an open forum. Also, since this is a computer used at work - the first thing I always advise is to back up important files you don't want to lose, this since malware causes a system unstable and it may happen that it suddenly won't boot anymore, because of the damage already present.Your system is severly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I ca... I have a Dell Inspiron B120 laptop, and the motherboard CPU socket says that it is socket 479, not 478, mPGA. (The motherboard itself is the "Intel Celeron M 360". I'm hoping that dell didn't make a motherboard that only worked with the processor it came with to lock you in, but I wouldn't be surprised. I was trying to upgrade my laptop, and found places to buy things like ram and hard drives, but for the life of me, couldn't find another CPU in existence that used that socket. Anyone know of anything? Thanks,

Hello everyone,

So here goes the story. I had a couple of school files I needed to put into a CD-R. I inserted the CD-R into the drive and attempted to burn these files onto the CD.

I didn't know that the CD-R already had files on it. The School files were finished burning but when I opened up the CD I could only see the previous files that were on there.

The previous files that were on the CD before the school files were just random video clips, all in the avi. format. Now half of the files on the CD are still fine, they play normally on Windows Media Player. The other half of the files didn't seem to work.

I believed it was a common CD recovery issue so I attempted to recover the lost files, little did I know the files weren't even real avi. files. Here is the part that confuses me. The files that are not playable that come out to say "File Format not supported" do take up space. Some take up 1.6 mb, some take up 700 kb. It confuses me because the files take up space and claim to files yet they do not play.

When I tried using programs to fix the files it said the files were not even true avi. files. They still take up space though. As I looked farther into this problem I came to realize that the hex of the corrupted files seem to be quite different then the actual files that do work.
The good ones had "RIFF LIST or something like that" but the bad ones just had aslasga5s4f6asf15a1f... you know what I mean.

I attempted to fix this... Read more

Running Windows XP, Service Pack 3.

Trouble started three weeks with Live Care crashing system. Finally got everything running last night after a two day battle to install IE7. However, in the process User Accounts were damaged.

After reinstalling Windows XP and all software except IE7, everything worked fine. Had three accounts: Admin, and two limited accounts. pw protected. After IE install and lots of talk with MS tech support, only Admin appears on log in screen. Tried to create the two accounts since all data existed in C:/documents and settings, but error message is that account already exists. Created two new accounts with new names, transferred data, all is ok.

However, I would like to return to the old account names, so I changed login procedures to require typing in Account Name, which worked for the "lost accounts" so the profiles and data must be OK.

Is there any way to restore these original account names??

You could always try avoiding the print server and turning on UPnP in your router, as long as your firewall is nice and tight, and printing that way direct through the workstation hosting the printer... although you may need to embed fonts in documents to get them to print correctly...

I have a exe file in the Folder call FChart 4.0.1. I would like to write the batch script to check if FChart.exe exists in the FChart 4.0.1 folder then copy it to specified folder. NOTE: the issue is that I would like to have it generic therefore I want to avoid 4.0.1 and only look for FChart folder and then file inside. I've written script but it doesnt work and its not generating any error as well

IF EXIST "VMFChart *\VMFChart.exe" XCOPY "VMFChart *\*" "%vmpath%" /E /F /G /H

Thanks in Advance

A:IF Exists in Batch File

Is the file name FChart.exe or VMFChart.exe? The text says FChart.exe, the command says VMFChart.exe. Same with the folder name.

Easiest way is to try to switch to the FChart* folder. If that succeeds, you then check for the file and copy it.
If FChart 4.0.1 is a folder under the Program Files folder, this should work:

@Echo Off
PushD %ProgramFiles%
PushD FChart* 2>Nul
If Errorlevel 1 Goto _NotFound
If Exist FChart.exe XCOPY "FChart.exe" "%vmpath%" /E /F /G /H
Goto _Copied
Echo FChartXXX folder not found in %CD%
Goto :EOF
Echo FChart.exe copied to %vmpath%
Note that if you have different versions (FChart 4.0.1 and FChart 4.0.2), it will switch to the the first one as listed in a Dir command that is sorted by name. Names with numbers aren't always listed in the same order as in Windows Explorer.

This is bit of a general question. If you have passwords to all of your BIOS/UEFI settings, you have disabled  CD/USB boot , if you have your C: encrypted and good Windows password, is there still any possibility that someone can access your files/install something, if he has physical access, and even if we assume that he has the same laptop and switches the hards? And to remain completely undetected - without password reset or changing, so next time you log you to never notice that someone did something.
I am asking in order to protect myself if i need to leave my machines unnatended in the future!

I found a similar problem on the forum, downloaded a new file from Microsoft, and now I can't install it. I get an error window stating "The specified service already exists." What can I do???

A:Error - The specified service already exists

Services, as such, do not exist in primitive OS's like Win98. Be sure that the programs you have downloaded and tried to install are meant for Win98 and not NT, 2000, or XP.

I'm using Excel 2007 on XP. The problem I'm having revolves around an OLAP cube pivot table. The table is a P&L. The code segment below is looped through 300+ times, once for each division (a filter on the pivot table).

I'm trying to check if, for a selected division, a pivot item exists. If it exists, I want to expand the drilled down detail. If not, I want to ignore it and proceed to the next segment of code.

The code executes well for 313 of the 322 divisions. Then it trips and throws, "Run-time error '1004': Unable to get the PivotItems property of the PivotField class," on the first Set ptPF statement.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dim ptPF As PivotItems
On Error Resume Next
Set ptPF = ActiveSheet.PivotTables("pvtSOO").PivotFields("[Category].[Category]").PivotItems("[Category].[All].[Enhanced Compensation]")
On Error GoTo 0
If ptPF Is Nothing Then
ActiveSheet.PivotTables("pvtSOO").PivotFields("[Category].[Category]"). _
PivotItems("[Category].[All].[Enhanced Compensation]").DrilledDown = True
End If
On Error Resume Next
Set ptPF = ActiveSheet.PivotTables("pvtSOO").PivotFields("[Category].[Category]").PivotItems("[Category].[All].[Errors, Bad Debts, & Settlements]")
On Error GoTo 0
If ptPF Is Nothing Then
ActiveSheet.... Read more

A:Check if pivotitem exists

The following code worked, although it is not ideal nor the most efficient solution. If anyone knows of an alternative better solution, please post.

On Error GoTo -1
ActiveSheet.PivotTables("pvtSOO").PivotFields("[Category].[Category]"). _
PivotItems("[Category].[All].[Enhanced Compensation]").DrilledDown = True
On Error GoTo -1
ActiveSheet.PivotTables("pvtSOO").PivotFields("[Category].[Category]"). _
PivotItems("[Category].[All].[Errors, Bad Debts, & Settlements]").DrilledDown = True

Have a custom tower and don't know the make/model of the drive, but it was working perfectly until recently. Tower has a DVD-ROM drive and a CD+/-R/RW burner drive. Now, it is almost as though the CD drive is not there; the Drive is gone from MY Computer, and it will not even open, like the power is shut off to it. The DVD drive is usually OK, but sometimes it vanishes for awhile and then reappears; the only difference being that it will always open/close, even when the icon is missing. I tried uninstalling some burn programs, but to absolutely no avail. Ideas????

This is bit of a general question. If you have passwords to all of your BIOS/UEFI settings, you have disabled  CD/USB boot , if you have your C: encrypted and good Windows password, is there still any possibility that someone can access your files/install something, if he has physical access, and even if we assume that he has the same laptop and switches the hards? And to remain completely undetected - without password reset or changing, so next time you log you to never notice that someone did something.
I am asking in order to protect myself if i need to leave my machines unnatended in the future!

I'm wondering if there is a simplified user interfaced program that will search the Internet for a specific .dll file. I have an extensive list in my Favorites, and Google does a decent job, but I was curious if such a program exists.

If anybody knows of such a program, it would be very much appreciated.
Speaking of which, there is this one that will back up your .dll files-

RXDLL Backup and Restore

How many times have you clicked on a shortcut only to get an error message that says such and such DLL is missing, and the only way you could get the program to work was uninstall and reinstall the software? That problem doesn't exist with RZDLLBackup. Once RZDLLBackup is installed, run the program and RZDLLBackup will scan your system for all existing (latest copy) DLL´s. The next time you receive an ERROR message saying the program won't run, open RZDLLBackup (leave the error message open), fill in the path name (from the error message) and the name of the missing DLL and RZDLLBackup will restore the missing DLL.Click to expand...

A:.DLL Program Finder (Does this exists?)

And then order the HP recovery disk from hp or computer surgeon to reset back to factory install to get it working. I don't recall Win8 machine came with a HP recovery partition but you had to order the disk from HP or 3rd party-I could be wrong but that how I remember it. You can't use another system recovery because it is tied to that system COA and doing so would invalidate their COA something they wouldn't be happy to find out. You must use and get the Recovery disk matching your Serial number to restore your system.

I like to use scheduled tasks to make my computer into an alarm clock. I just got this computer about 6 weeks ago, and when I tried this for the first time it wouldn't work well because something else kept waking it up early at odd hours. I gradually got that sorted to the point where I could try it again. My first trial task was named 'alarm', and when it didn't work I right-clicked on the task and deleted it. Now I can't use that name as it is apparently already in use. So I named it something else, and it works, but some task keeps waking the computer at 6am, M-F, the same as I had set for 'alarm'. I've looked through all the tasks, and a few have run at that time, but none of those are set to wake the computer. I've searched for 'alarm' and come up empty, but if it doesn't exist, why can't I use that name for a task now? Is it possible that the 'deleted' task is still running but not visible, and if so, how can I find it again? If that's not possible, how can I find what's waking my computer at 6am? I've been through every task in the scheduler, and nothing is set to do that as far as I can tell.

A:Scheduled task already exists

the possibilities are endless. it seems like every piece of commercial software will routinely connect to the internet on a set schedule, ranging from a daily check to a monthly check. if it happens daily, my first guess would be windows update, or maybe an antivirus program.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but I couldn't think of anywhere else.

My band wants to have a www.calltheshotsofficial.com style download scheme wherein The user is required to make a Facebook OR twitter post in order for the download to start.

http://www.paywithatweet.com/ no longer offers facebook post capability but USED TO BE exactly what we wanted.

http://www.tweetforatrack.com/ Offers the right facebook/twitter services but requires an email to be sent to your inbox and then a link to be clicked. Enough effort for someone not to bother In my opinion.

And there is one more But i can't remember.

If anyone knows of any site that I can use that works like Pay With A Tweet SHOULD I'd be really happy!

Thanks in advance!

My problem is no administrator account exists any longer. I found your conversation with someone about this but I can't seem to get back to it again. Please forgive me I am so technology challenged. Last night my son was using my computer and deleted the administrator account on me now the only access I have is through my daughters user account which of course has limited access. I am trying to follow the "safe mode" instructions you had posted but can't get into safe mode due to the computer asking me to by pass the administrator which no longer exists. What do I do?

Please help!! I thank you in advance and appreciate any help you can offer.

A:No Administrator Account Exists

Hello Jennifer, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Have you already tried to enter you password for that account to see if it may let you into Safe Mode afterwards?

If you did, then you might give Method Three in this tutorial a try to reset the password to nothing, then see if you can boot into Safe Mode.

Reset User Account Password

Hope this helps,

If you can get into Safe Mode afterwards, see if you can create a new Administrator account. You might also look to see if your son just changed the administrator account type to something else (ex: Standard) instead of deleting it. If this is the case, then you can just change it back to a administrator account instead of creating a new account.

Hello! I have a medium sized network with several different OS's residing on it. Everyday a few of the computer will error with "A duplicate name exists on the network:" A quick Google search shows the same answer EVERYWHERE on the internet. So I changed the names of a few of the computers too something I knew was unique. Still though the problem persists/ it afters the two XP bases computers the most, but my main workstations (windows 7 sp1) has had this error a few times, although it appears to have left for a while. I have a feenas server but Active directory is not turned on. My router is a e4200. I was using DHCP server on there (and would very much still like to) although I have turning it off, rebooted both the router and the computers but to no avail... Thanks!
