I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Make sure drivers are updated and not using a generic VGA driver. This would make the dock not work and not be able to adjust screen brightness. If it is to the point where you can hardly see it at all then it most likely is a bad screen.

I recently picked up a T440s (20AQCT01WW) for a decent price. I'm looking to swap the LCD on it as the one on it has some minor damage. Now what I'm wondering is if it is possible to replace just the LCD on a touchscreen setup. If not I'm not too concerned about the touch functionality and am all for switching to a non touch screen assembly if required. I'd like to try just switching the LCD first as it'd be cheaper. However I'm having trouble finding a lot of information on this. Anyone know where to start? Thank you!

I have a T440S that is still under warantty. The screen has a bright white spot about the size of a small led. It can be easly seen on a white bachground from several feet away. On a colored screen it appears as a spot of lighten color. It can not  be seen on a black background. I do not believe that this is a dead pixel. Is this covered by the Lenovo warantty? If not, how easy is it to replace the screen. Are screen whitelisted in the Bios? Can I upgrade this to a touch screen? The current screen is a AU OPTRONICS B140HAN01.2 Can I use any version of B140HAN01 or does it have to be the .2 version? I assume that the 2 refers to the version number.

Hi, A few days ago, my T440s laptop has started giving me weird issues. After it wake it, the screen flickers on and off repeatedly. The computer becomes pretty much useless because it keeps bringing me back to the linux lock screen. At first, I thought it might be my Debian installation, but the screen flickers even during the POST and in the BIOS. The only solution I have found is to let my computer rest for a day without power and then I can use it without any problems until it sleeps again. Can anyone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting? Thanks in advance,Marc

Hi Everyone! I got my hands on a beautiful T440s that works perfectly with the exception of a broken touch display.Problem is: apparently you can't order the screen any longer. So I was wondering, if it was possible to replace the screen with a non touch display. There is another little problem: there's a special plug for the touch functionality. There has to be a cable plugged in, otherwise the notebook wouldn't start. Is there some kind of dummy I can buy to trick the system into thinking there's a touch display plugged in?I do not need the touch functionality at all, so it would absolutely suffice to replace the display with a standard LCD screen. Type: 20AQ-CT01WWAny help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance, khalid

The screen on my t440s will turn off and computer will go into sleep mode if I adjust the screen.  The screen also occasionally flickers.  I assume something is wrong with the power delivery to the screen, perhaps a wire going to the screen? The laptop is no longer under warranty, but I have experience replacing internal parts of laptops myself.  What part/parts should I expect to buy or replace to fix this issue?  Thanks in advance.Jeff

Greetings, As the subject describes, my laptop screen flickers quickly and at irregular intervals.  I notice it once every 3-5 minutes or so but it could be more frequent, perhaps at times when I am not concentrating on the screen or it is too light to notice.  It is quite irritating and noticable though.  The flickering started about 3 weeks ago and doesn't seem to be getting much worse.  I spend time in both Fedora 24 linux and Windows 10.  It occurs in both operating systems, but seems to occur more frequently in Fedora.   I had the original screen replaced by a repair shop last year for an unrelated issue.   The flickering is not like the problem posted here:https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T440s-Screen-Flickering/m-p/3300477#M108... Any advice is appreciated.  I am afraid my laptop is no longer under warranty, so I will be stuck paying to repair this issue.  If so, I would probably disassemble and replace the effected part myself since I have the tools and some experience doing this.   Thanks

I recently purchased a T440s with FHD touchscreen. I'm running Windows 8.1 and observing some screen burn-in / ghosting / image persistance. What I mean by this is the following. Suppose I have a window open (e.g., browser window), and leave it open for some time (e.g., 15 minutes). When I minimize the window, I occassionally still see a faint version of the previously maximized window which persists for a while, and eventually goes away. This leads me to think my display might have issues. Is anyone else observing this? I have Intel HD Graphics 4400, and I'm using driver version 10.18.10.3412. I see that there are newer 4400 drivers available on Intel's website, but I'm hesitant to go that route because I haven't seen any other people with this issue so it makes me think that it's not a driver issue.

I agreed to a Lenovo update yesterday (3/21/2018 for my T440s. I remember it saying something about a Bios update and to make sure the machine was plugged in. After agreeing to everything and starting the update, after a while I looked over and noticed that it had a black screen with nothing happening for several hours. The green power button light is on, but when I press it, it just beeps at me. Even holding it down for 10 seconds or more with nothing but a series of beeps (screen stays black with green power button light on). I tried taking the battery out and letting it run out of power, then put the battery back in, plugged it back in and tried to get it to restart.

One thing you might try that works on some ThinkPads is to reset the BIOS by unplugging the coin cell battery.     That will involved removing the AC power adapter, the main battery and the bottom cover of the laptop, which is detailed on page 61 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual.    Once the base cover is removed, unplug the coin cell battery (see page 67 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual) for a few minutes to let the power drain, and then plug it back in, re-assemble the laptop and try booting it back up. Be careful when prying up the latches while removing the base cover because they can break easily, but I found that gentle prodding and an old credit card etc. can be useful in working the latches free, but you can also get special tools at most electronic stores (often referred to as "spudgers"), to help pry open the case if desired. Best of luck,

Apologies if this question has been previously answered.  I searched and couldn't find a response.   I'm still using the original HDD that came with the laptop.  I'm thinking of upgrading to an SSD and cloning the HDD to the SSD.  My question is what to do, if anything, with the, M.2 16gb cache that came with the laptop.  Should this drive be left alone as is in the laptop after the HDD to SSD upgrade?  Should it be removed?  Should anything be done to the M.2 drive if I upgrade the HDD?  My understanding is it currently speeds up the computer at start-up and with an SSD, this wouldn't be all that necessary.   I appreciate everyone's time.  Thank you.   -Rich

Dear Users, Since a few moments I am a (happy) owner of Lenovo?s new and business class model T440s. As I could find out, Lenovo is building in two different displays. On the one hand there are several model with aLG-DisplayModel: LP140WF1 (sp)(k1)P/N: 0C00349FRU: 04X0626 And the other from AUOModel: AUO B140HAN01.2FRU: 04X0436 (You can look up your displaymodel via BIOS, Everest or any related program) As far as I could find out in the world wide web there are several users reporting with a LG Display in their T440s that it is in quality inferior to the AUO Display. It seems that Lenovo is ready to replace the LG with an AUO display, sending out a tech. My question is what your experiences are and what can we, the owner of a  LG-Display, do?Is there a real quality gap between these two types of Display? My T440s, as i mentioned, has a LG Display. I can live with this one, if there are no great difference in the quality to the AUO Display. I am excited about your opinions. Thanks Fire

Don't sweat it. Both are absolutey huge upgrades over the TN panel. While the AUO is a bit better, its not worth the trouble. I have both and I like both. I did a compare on the same thread u heard about the issue.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to figure out if I have a unique problem, or whether this is a broader T440s problem. Occasionally, especially when my T440s has gone to hibernation from sleep, I cannot turn on the computer unless I plug it into the wall. That is to say, when I hit the power button when the computer is unplugged, NOTHING happens. I've tried holding the power button down, pressing it repeatedly, removing the external battery and then pressing the startup button, etc.  If I plug the computer into the wall, it starts up fine and shows that there is sufficient battery life. This does not happen consistently, and is difficult to repeat. For example, the computer went into sleep the night before traveling. I tried to start it on a plane flight (domestic, thank god, so it wasn't a huge issue, but if it had been international that would have been a disaster) and it simply would not start. Later, on a train, I was able to plug it in and it started with no problems and showed plenty of battery life. I then put it into sleep, it went into hibernate, and I was able to start it up without being plugged into the wall when I returned home. Has anyone else encountered something similar? Are there settings I can change, or should I have it sent in for repair (also, what on earth might cause this problem? Faulty power button?)

A:T440s won't startup on battery

This is what happened to my T420.  Just about drove me nuts.  Since it would start in one power mode but not the other that proved that it couldn't be the button, right?  Another mod with more sense suggested replacing the keyboard anyway.

It was the power button.  On careful visual inspection I could see that it was slightly depressed from normal.  Either partly shorted or high resistance.  Plugging in the AC mains must have changed the voltages just enough for it to work.  Sometimes, anyway.

Not saying this weird problem is what you're seeing - but it might be.

Good luck,
Z.
