T580 with HP Elite 90W Thunderbolt 3 Dock

Q: T580 with HP Elite 90W Thunderbolt 3 Dock

Hey, I have a HP Elite 90W Thunderbolt 3 Dock that works fine with the hp work laptop that I have and 3 monitors. I just bought a simple thunderbolt 3 cable to be able to plug my Lenovo T580 to this and enjoy the external monitors with it as well but... it doesn't seem to work. (I don't know if it's relevant, but my t580 runs linux) I did try to look around on the internet but couldn't seem to find anyone who tried to do this. So is it normal ? Or is it supposed to work ? If so, could the problem come from linux ? Thanks in advance if you have any idea ! Cheers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have just received the HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 65W USB-C Dock. I have plugged it in, and my Elite X2 1012 G1 charges, but that is all. None of the ports are working. Monitor is not recognised either. If I plug my phone in via the USB port, it will charge, but not recognise it as a storage device. I have searched everywhere, and cannot find drivers that will resolve this issue. I have:- Thunderbolt software installed, and running, but still to no avail.- Installed and run "Intel Thunderbolt Firmware Update Utility", but get an error that there is no controller driver. Please help. ps. The machine was reimaged with a corporate SOE. So I am not sure if I am missing drivers.

I finally received our Thunderbolt 3 docks this week.  Same issues as OP.  I was able to get it working by installing the Intel Thunderbolt Secure Connect under the Driver - Controller section of the drivers for the X2 1012 tablet.  Hopefully this helps someone else.  Direct link to the driver page below. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=8741946&swItemId=ob_161921_1&swEnvOid=419...

(For those of you who have followed my previous threads, I've now ordered a T580 with 4k display). I'm looking for a T3 dock which can do the following on a T580. It would allow me to use just one cable to dock/undock it: 1) Attach a screen with a 2560x1440 resolution with 60Hz (digital connection)2) Attach a screen with a 1920x1200 resolution with 60Hz (digital or VGA connection)3) Full Ethernet port4) Charge the laptop (originally, it comes with a 45W power adaptor)5) Have at least 1 classic USB 3.0 port Unfortunately my budget is limited so that I can't go for the original Lenovo one. If there's a dock which can all the above except for attaching two screens, then this would be ok as well, for the time being (assuming I can run one screen via the dock, and the other screen directly from the HDMI of the T580). Then it would just be 2 cables for docking/undocking...

My thunderbolt 3 (135watt) dock will not charge my T580 intel core i7-8650 laptop while displaying on 2 monitors.  Tried only 1 monitor and still won't charge.  About 3 months ago first got a message that insufficient power to thunderbolt dock.  Warranty replaced the dock last week and still won't work.  I took the laptop to work since I have an identical rig and it charges and displays (only 1 monitor but will also charge an iphone).  I brought a new 135w charger home and that didnt help.  Also replaced little cord from thunderbolt to T580 and that didn't work.  I even tried a different outlet on a different circuit and that doesn't help.  Could it be that the i7-8650 needs the 230W thunderbolt?

Hi All Could really do with some help on this. We are gonig to be using the HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station with our laptops. The issue I am finding at present is that you have to authorise for use on each laptop. This requires Admin Rights, something that we are no going to give our End Users. According to the manual located at: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05141189, on page 5, "Note: You must be logged on as an administrator on the computer connected to the dock. To enable a non-administrator user to select OK, enter the non-administrator registry key. Contact your HP Technical Consultant for this key." Does anybody have any idea what the key is? Kind Regards

I recently (yesterday, 16/08/16) started experiencing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death whenever my laptop is connected to my HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock. The machine is a HP ZBook 15 G3. It has been connected to this dock for over a month without this issue. I'm not sure why the sudden issue as I don't recall any updates or new software prior to this happening. The dock is connected to 2x monitors via HDMI cables, and an ethernet cable. I connect a wireless mouse and keyboard to a USB3 port on the laptop. If the dock is connected to the laptop on startup, it reaches the login screen before BSOD. If I start without it connected, it will BSOD a few seconds after connecting the dock. It never gets to the point where the monitors display anything. It can boot with the dock connected in Safe Mode, as this seems to disable it from working. I have updated all drivers and the BIOS (including downloading the Softpaq Download Manager) but there has been no change. I've also updated the NVIDIA drivers to the latest version without change. What should I do next to solve the issue?

A:BSOD upon connection to HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock

I would personally try isolating the culprit, then go from there: 1) remove 1 monitor from the dock, then test2) remove ethernet from the dock, then test3) remove the last monitor and hook it directly to the laptop, so the dock is attached with nothing to it, then test4) I have my dock set to "Always Connect" in the thunderbolt software, not sure if that helps any.

Unfortunately I still haven't resolved the issue with my laptop. It's rather frustrating because we have an identical laptop and hardware setup with one of my colleagues and his works fine. No combination of BIOS update software uninstall and reinstall has resolved this issue. It's a shame because I have been accustomed to using the docking station for my older Compaq based laptop / Workstation and I really do love the feature.

Hi all, We bought about 10 HP X2 Elite 1012 G1 along with Thunderbolt Docking station. I setup the laptop then installed the drivers for Intel Management Engine and Thunderbolt dock. Updated the firmware for Intel chipset as well. Since we setup these laptops user complain about the dock not getting detected by laptop. No matter how many times they restart. I went through each laptop and observed the following issues: 1- When I open the Thunderbolt software, it shows multiple HP docks in the attached devices with cross sign (which means the device is disconnected). It seesm that the Thunderbolt software creates multiple entries of the same dock then fails to detect it 2- When the laptop goes to sleep mode, the dock gets disconnected and then it doesn't get detected at all, even after reboot.  So far the only fix is as below: (which worked 90% of the time) 1- Uninstall both Intel management Engine driver and Thunderbolt Secure connect driver2- Install both Intel management Engine driver and firmware + Thunderbolt Secure connect driver BUT, this can't be a proper fix because in a corporate environment we can't go through this every single time. It's a total waste of time/money for a corporate. On top of that, users get frustrated by this issue that is ahpenning constantly. HP PLEASE FIND A PROPER FIX. I used the Lenovo System Update (v5.07.0074) and was prompted to download and install (was listed as Critical Update) the Firmware to my Dock.  As always, I closed all applications and sat as the Firmware downloaded. I got the expected prompt to ensure I was plugged in. I then watched as the upgraded prompted me to install. Installation completed and everything appeared to be fine.  I powered down the thinkpad and disconnected. Worked from the living room, then went back to the dock. Connected, and noticed that before I connected the White light on the power button was illuminated. Shrugged, and pushed the power button. Nothing. I un-plugged the Dock, got a cup of coffee, returned and plugged it back in. Nothing. I then noticed that none of the pass-through power was working on the dock.  So, I unplugged it again.  Unplugged everything connected to it, and held the power button down for 15 seconds in an effort. All of this at the recommendation of Lenovo Support. Who, by the way, was very nice and well spoken. Nothing we did worked. I happened to have another Thunderbolt 3 cable in my bag, and no change. I powered up my new X1 Yoga, and connected the cable. No power. This wasn't passing power at all. I confirmed the Intel Thunderbolt app was running, and confirmed that Windows was not even detecting the Dock.  Lenovo is sending me a replacement. Hello everyone, I recently bought a Thinkpad X1 Extreme and I am now locking for a suitable Thunderbolt 3 dock. Although I've read a lot of posts about various docks I am still a little consfused about which one to choose. It seems like the following ones would all work with the X1 Extreme:1. Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W:https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...2. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (170W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/docking/universal-cable-docks-thunderbolt/Thun...3. ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock (230W):https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/accessories-and-monitors/top-tech/Thunderbolt-WS-230W-dock-US/p/40AN023... Please correct me if I am wrong but to me it seems as if the only difference between these docks is that the workstation ones come with two AC adapters each and a special Thunderbolt/Power cable to avoid using two different cables. Or are there any other technical differences? So if I am okay with a two cable solution couldn't I just use the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W and connect it via Thunderbolt while at the same time use my 135W AC adapter to charge the laptop? Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi all, I have a Thinkpad T580 and a Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen2. It worked fine until now.I updated the Dock Firmware, and everything worked. I updated the BIOS from 1.21 to 1.22, and Thunderbolt is not working anymore. Were I work we have many Lenovo Laptops and Docks. I tried another Dock, but the thunderbolt software does not show a connected device. I reflashed the 1.21 BIOS version, but thunderbolt stays broken. How could that happen?I even set the Thunderbolt Security to "no Security" in BIOS, thinking it might have broke security, but no, does not work. When I plug it into USB-C it works, of course. But this way I only have 10GBit/s for everything, not 40Gbit/s like with Thunderbolt. That means not all of my monitors do work and bandwidth is limited. Any ideas how to remedy the situation? Best, maybeapreacher

Hi there,  I've been experiencing issues with both Thinkpad T580's and 5th/6th Gen X1 Carbons. Basically any model that has USB-C/Thunberbolt connectivity.  I have had users report that their laptops either connected to their docking station or power adaptor  do not charge. Windows reports "Plugged in, Not charging", and power drops. The dock does not appear to work, external screens, network etc.  When disconnected from the power source or dock, the orange power light on the left site where the USB-C connector is stays on. This is the light that comes on when charging. When the laptop is shut down, the same orange light stays on.  The work around I've found is to go into the BIOS, Power settings, Disconnect the internal battery. (External battery needs to be removed for the T series). After selecting this, the laptop powers off and the orange charging light goes out. Once reconnected to a power source, the laptop will power on, work with the dock and properly charge.  I have encountered this on multiple T580's and multiple X1 Carbons. I've attempted to run the System Update utility (excellent app btw) and made sure BIOS and Thunderbolt firmware etc is up to date, yet the issue still persists. Logging into the BIOS and disconnecting the internal battery is not a viable solution.  Is there a solution for this, and are Lenovo aware of this issue?  Thanks,Adam

First... long time T series user going back to the initial ones. Had been using a T520 up until I finally gave in and purchased a T580 over the BF in July sale. Since I have been using a dock for a long time and like the convenience factor I got the Pro Dock (40AH0135US) to go along with the T580. Long story short... the first T580 arrives with a blown system board. I send it back and 11 days later another T580 arrives. This one boots and has no issues off the dock. It's fast and definitely an upgrade from the T520. First thing I notice in placing it on the dock is that the side mount process is tedious. Reading other posts seems to confirm that experience. It's nowhere near as well engineered as the bottom dock solution and I spend more time trying to insert the dock mechanism than I ever had with the legacy dock solutions. I eventually get things perfectly aligned and power on. Right off the neither external monitor is working. I have two Dell UHD monitors connected to the DP's on the dock and neither comes on. I mess with the cables and nothing, I take the T580 off and re-insert... nothing. I call Lenovo and without even trying to diagnose the issue they issue an RMA for the dock. I get another dock 2 days later and this one works for exactly 1 day. The external monitors work and then 10 hours later when I come home from my job and place the T580 on the dock they don't work. Nothing changes but somehow things are back to not working again. To be clear at no point from powe... Read more

My T580 suddenly one day stopped reading my external USB-C hard drive, I tried updating the drivers and several other suggested repairs with none of them working. The power light on the drive would come on but the computer didn't read it, verified with a second drive and they both work on my other computers. Looking at the timeline, I realized that this happened while the computer was still within it's warranty period, but I was busy and just let the problem go. Then two weeks later the computer just shut down on me and after letting it sit with the lid closed for a while, it was able to restart and I got a warning message at the BIOS screen that "The Power Adapter is of lower wattage than the one supplied with the machine" or something along those lines. Once booted up I was able to see that battery nuber one was fully depleted to 2% and the 2nd battery was at 99%, it then shut down on me again. I ordered a replacement power adapter to test and got the same message and the same symptoms, the computer would basically trickle charge at a rate slower than it consumed power, at this point I finally called customer service and started a repair ticket, this is when they told me that the computer was three weeks out of warranty....I send it in and a week later recieve a repair estimate of $589 to replace the whole motherboard. I called right back and complained that this computer was having problems before the warranty was up and was simply told it was out of warran... I got my new T580 today, and with it the Ultra Docking Station. It generally works fine except for some minor issues with my monitor still needing DVI, but that is easily solveable. The one big issue I have with it is my mouse:Moving it in circles shows freezes every few seconds, for up to a few seconds at a time! The mouse is practically unuseable as it is.It's a Logitech G500 mouse. Connecting it to one of the Laptops USB ports works makes it work just fine.Connecting one of our cheap default Microsoft mice to the dock also works just fine, but I'd really rather use my Logitech. I tried updating all the firmwares and drivers(OS in use is Windows 10 64bit), but nothing made any difference. The mouse is not only freezing, but judging by the constant device disconnect/connect sounds also completely reconnects every like 30-60 seconds. Using a USB event viewer confirmed that it is indeed the mouse being reconnected.

Currently have an X1 Carbon 5th Gen - 20HR, that is experiencing susbtantial issues with the Thunderbolt dock now.  I'll start with some initial info to set the stage. -----------------------X1 Carbon 5th Gen - 20HR Machine TypeWindows 10 Pro - 1903 - build 18356.21Thunderbolt 3 dock, dual Display (thinkvision P24Q), one hdmi and one display portAll updates for windows and lenovo, using thinkvantage tool.  Including latest thunderbolt firmware deployed yesterday (v.17.0.0.1).Problem device - PCI-to-PCI bridge - version 10.0.18356.1----------------------- Symptoms.Starting about 3 weeks ago, started experiencing an issue where by if I start the laptop off the dock, and plug in to the dock, none of the USB devices connected to the dock will work.  The displays work fine, but none of the USB devices do.  Such as camera, keyboard/mouse, external HD, etc. Upon opening device manager, I will always see a PCI-to-PCI bridge device in a non functional state, stating the driver has failed, subsequent attempts to update driver or completely uninstall all PCI-to-PCI bridge devices and rediscover them won't work.  Nothing fixes the issue but a reboot with the dock connected. Even with the dock functional, I now experience a strange issue whereby one of the two monitors will randomly flash (meaning go black and than almost immediately come back on). If I start the laptop on the dock, disconnect, and reconnect, I still have the same issues.&... Is the new ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock compatible with P50? Dock details page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cz/en/solutions/acc100356) only list P51s, but not P50. But P50 claims support for Thunderbold 3. If yes,  can I connect Ethernet LAN over the dock? And what driver I need to install?

For some reason, i can't turn on my new P51 using the power button on the Thunderbolt 3 dock.   I'm sure i've got something hooked up wrong, but thought i'd check here.   Is there a setting in Control Panel (power button) that i need to change?  In order to use my laptop / view from my external monitor, i have to open the lid to the laptop, power on and then i can use the external monitor.  thanks for any help.

I just picked up the TB3 dock and all seems to be working, however it is not charging my laptop using the included Thunderbolt/Power combo cable. The power light shows on the dock, and connected devices work on laptop, but no power. Any ideas?

Just bought a Lenovo soga s730 (in other countries it can be called 730s) and Omen accelerator by hp, there are several problems, the first one: the dock connects only from the second time (the first time it detect the thunderbolt connection, but then driver just turns off, the second time everything is ok); Second: the video card appears in the device manager, but the driver does not automatically turn on, the reboot helps, then everything starts working. The last most annoying problem is that there is no charging through the thunderbolt connector, the dock is in SELF POWER status. Screenshots attached.

I've been running a Windows 10 T480 for a year now and have had quite a few problems with the TB3 docking station. My issue is going between my home setup (TB3 dock, single 4K monitor) and my office setup (TB3 dock, 3 FHD monitors - 2x display port and 1x VGA).  The only way I can move between the two environments is if I unplug the laptop from the dock, open the lid and then put the machine to sleep (note I'm not shutting down). To me this extra step should be unnecessary; however, I'm open to a techinical explination on why this is the only way to move between the two environments. The issue I have when I go from home to work is the montiors don't always come up in the correct spots and even playing with the display settings in Windows doesn't always get things back the way they were. Most of the time I need to unplug from the dock (with Windows booted) multiple times and everything comes back. This has really soured my user experience. I've tried using both the brick and cable version of the Thunderbolt 3 dock (that's what I'm using currently at the home and office) and the standard docks with mechanical slide/locking mechanisim and I'm having the same issue. I'm open to getting a 4K monitor for the office but that seems unnecessary. Lenovo technical support was quick to replace the motherboard (which they did last year) and that did not help. I'm looking for some sort of way to truly troubleshoot the software and/or have someone explain preciecely... Read more
