Questions about: Script debugging and Script errors.

Q: Questions about: Script debugging and Script errors.

Hello everyone!

It has been a while since I have been on here. I have had a few computer problems that I had to work through, and once again I had to do a Factory Condition System Reset. The second time in jut over a year. They did not know what was causing my problem. I talked to both Dell; my computer manufacturer and Microsoft who made Windows Vista. They boh could not figure out what was causing my problems. Microsoft recommended to go to my computer manufacturer. And Dell just said to do the complete System Reset, Also Known As: Factory Condition Restore.

Back to my questions about Script debugging and Script errors. Every once in a while I have Windows notify me of the Script errors. Also sometimes when I go to view a webpage or enter a website a message will pop-up saying that a script error occured that could prevent me from viewing the page properly and asks me if I want to continue. I do have: "Disable Script debugging?" checked for both "Internet Explorer" and "Other". I also get a little note in the lower left hand corner saying: "Done, but with errors on page."

My first question is: What the heck is Script debugging?

Second question is: What can I do about the Script errors that occur?

Third: Why do script errors occur or what causes them? I know there can be millions of reasons that they occur, but what are the most common ones?

Fourth: Is there anything that can be done to fix them from the viewer's end?

Preferred Solution: Questions about: Script debugging and Script errors.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I'm using Windows XP SP2 with IE 7. Because this is a testing machine (for automated tests), I can't upgrade IE. I want to eliminate script debugging errors, but they keep popping up, even though I've gone into Tools -> Options - Advanced and unchecked

Display a notification about every script error

These options are checked:

Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer)
Disable script debugging (Other)

What else do I need to check? Thanks, - Dave

A:Getting script debugging errors even though I disabled script debugging

Just in case you didn't do it, check and uncheck Display etc., then be sure to hit OK and close the browser. Reopen and let's see what happens. Also go to this MS site: Cannot Disable Script Debugging in Internet Explorer.

Here is my Hijack this log file. I did everything listed but I am having issues with the way pages load or don't load properly while on the internet. Cannot read the words very well, sometimes they are overwritten , sometimes they are huge or the writing is too thin to be read easily. For example, when I load a newpaper like NY Times, the columns are squeezed in the middle of the screen and isn't displayed so it is readable columns overlap and words and photos overlap or are sqeezed into a narrow column. I have downloaded new drivers for the display, played with display properties and cannot seem to find the problem. Wondering if it is a bug or virus or worm or something. I am really not a geek, so I need help. I don't know how to mess with registry things, so I use Registry Mechanic. But it has not fixed this problem. I get runtime error codes and it asks me if I want to debug... mostly script errors. I ahve no clue about debugging, so I don't do it. Anyhow, any help would be appreciated!!!Thanks! Hi all,

I have a co-worker running Windows 7 and IE 11. He says that he keeps getting the popup shown, and even after he checks the boxes in Advanced Internet Options to Disable Script Debugging, they uncheck themselves after every reboot.

I read elsewhere on the web that security programs may uncheck these... is this true? Does anyone have any info on where options for Norton may be to prevent this? Or why the setting won't stay checked?

A:Disable IE Script Debugging for Good

Hi,
What webpage trigger the popup message,
Post links so we might test,
Personally a full reset might be the simplest thing to try without changing any advanced settings,

As long as Norton or which ever security browser add-ons are disabled I doubt they would reset any settings,
Being this is a company machine group policy might allow changes but resets it's self after logging off :/
Cheers.

Running on Windows XP
Avast Anti-virus Home version

What I have tried

have scanned multiple times with Avast, Malware Bytes, and AOL computer check up. Also downloaded and used ccleaner, ATF cleaner, and SUPER AntiSpyware which did a 16 hour scan. They did find some ad ware etc and got rid of it - but the problem persists.

I also reset my preferences and did other maintanence that I know how to do (defragging, disk clean, rebooting etc)

I tried installing updates and doing a system restore -------System Restore failed, installation of MS security update (latest one) failed several times.

I cant figure out what could get in here that all these programs wont detect. I really thought Avast was doing a good job.

Summary of the problems

the biggest or most annoying problem is that using IE - surfing and mail takes Foreeeeeever. typing is interrupted, getting a not responding freeze very often - its temporary but much longer freeze or hold up than normal.

and...
Links are misdirected. mostly from searches, but seemed to be half or more of the time I clicked a link. I could see in the tab several website titles flashing through and then it would land on one - none of them were the ones I wanted or clicked.

other problems

Java problems - I noticed when tried to go to pogo to play games - I kept getting java not working etc..yet the test your java process revealed that I had the latest version and updates which I knew of course but I muddled through - I did all the steps ... Read more

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download Index.dat Suite to clean out all the temp folders. Do not run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

A:Malware script questions

Virus writers and attackers use various methods and techniques to spread malware. A large number of infections spread via Internet Relay Chat, by visiting underground web pages, adult, gaming or pirated software sites, and by using peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing programs which are a security risk that can make your computer susceptible to a sm?rg?sbord of malware infections, remote attacks, exposure of personal information, and identity theft. Many malicious worms and Trojans spread across P2P file sharing networks, gaming and underground sites. Users visiting such sites may see innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans and spyware. Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users. The infection also spreads through emails containing links to websites that exploit your web browser?s security holes and by exploiting a vulnerability in older versions of Sun Java. When you click on an infected email link or spam, Internet Explorer launches a site that stealthy installs a Trojan so that it can run every time you startup Windows and download more malicious files. For more detail on how these types of rogue programs and infections install themselves, read:Anatomy of a malware scam.Beware of rogue security software.Other types of infections spread by visiting malicious and legitimate web sites that have been compromised through ... Not quite sure but I would make 100% sure that you have the latest version of Firefox and ny extensions. Go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Software Update -> Check Now. It should be version 1.0.3 if you look under Help.

I use XP and IE7 and have a weird problem which I think might be a script error issue.

I look after a club website and this is hosted by our main sports body. My log in to that site allows full control, editing rights and everything else. This works fine on one of my two computers but on the other I can log in fine but when I go to edit the page I get a script error which reads Line 22, char 1500 Error : Access Denied.

I've tried checking and matching the security levels on both machines and the page privacy policies and had no luck.
I've also tried the fix.reg solution on a similar thread again with no success.
This is just becoming frustrating and I wondered if anyone could save me before the computer gets subjected to percussion maintenance?

Thanks
Spike

A:IE7 & script errors

This MAY be a security restriction by your host site, allow access from only one computer. I know of one site, from a long while back, that used the product key (My Computer, Properties) to identify the PC and will not allow logon from an "unauthorized" PC.

I assume you are logging off the site on the previous PC and trying to logon on using another PC.

It may depend on just when your host site drops your ID-cookie.

Have you tried [Delete Files] in Internet Options? There MAY be an old IE tmp file with wrong page data for logon on the "other" system.

Also, on the "other" system, do you have Administrative Rights?

In IE 6, whenever I go to any multimedia site like Windows Media Player (and especially that site), I get bombarded with script errors, so many that I have a hard time just exiting those sites. The only answer that I've been able to find in messages from others who have the same problem is in IE go to tools/internet options/advanced and to check "Disable Script Debugging" and to uncheck or leave blank "Display A Notification About Every Script Error," yet that does not at all solve the barrage of script errors that I continue to get. Anybody have any ideas?

Go to Tools-Internet Options-Security and click default level when Internet is highlighted. Then go to to Advanced tab and hit restore defaults. If this doesn't help, get some other opinions. If you don't get any more opinions or they just don't help, go to Microsoft.com and reinstall Internet Explorer. Hope I helped you.

Hello and welcome to TSG Forums.

You can disable script debugging in internet explorer, click the tools menu then Internet Options, then the advanced tab, Place a checkmark in the "Disable script debugging", and ensure there is NO check mark in the "display a notification of every script error"

Computer has been giving me a script error without any prompts to view the tech specs of the cause of the error....instead...it shut down Norton Antivirus and Spydoctor which I am aware of. I reinstalled Norton Antivirus 2005 and it installs correctly until it trys to run the configuration wizard. Then the logos from the beginning are non existent and I click on next and nothing happens. I am running windows XP and understand that I may have to reinstall windows to correct this script error but would like to know if there are other ways of repairing this without reinstalling windows.

Not sure if I explained the problem so please ask questions.....Thanks People.

I'm getting script error messages on a couple of web sites. I'm totally in the woods regarding these. What are they and can I fix them, or is this a problem only the webmasters of these sites can fix?

Here are two that keep reccurring:

Line 1
Char 1
Error 'outdelay' is undefined
Code 0
URL www.bronxboard.com

and

Line 96
Char 1
Error object expected
URL www.manhattanboard. com

A:Script Errors - What are they and can I fix?

This is because of errors on the website, you can disable the debugging feature that notifies you of these errors. To disable script debugging follow these instructions...

1. In internet explorer click on the tools menu
2. Click on Internet Options
3. In the internet options click on the advanced tab
4. Under browsing, check the box that says 'Disable Script Debugging'

Sorry, but i haven't the slightest clue what you're on about.

so i have a few questions:

1) by script what do you mean? (in something you're programming? what language?)
2) what is it telling you you've got errors? (a certain program?)
3) by script error cleaner program, could you give an example of one?
lol, i apologise, but this sounds suspiciously like some pop-up ad saying "you have 350 script errors(nice round number) on your pc, download this viral piece of software that claims to fix them &/ buy it for this much, either way we make our money". Or you could actually be writing some form of script, the previously stated questions would help us work out which.

Cheers,
Jamey

I am using Windows7. Yesterday I have been getting a lot of "script error" messages possibly related to playing games. I get anywhere from 3 to 6/7 every few seconds.

I've heard that they are meaningless and there is a way to turn them off. Is this true?

well i still haven't figured out my outlook express problem yet but now i keep getting a script error...something called clickspring.net
error is "rpc server unavailable" i treid to close program and noticed winservn (not responding)...i use panicware popup stopper which works real good but seems somestuff is getting thru now..also i have a quick question about loading windows...if i have to reload win is i have a missing file or some other problem does it overwrite the existing program and replace what is missing or does it install a complete windows setup again and take up hard drive space..i have reloaded windows about 4 times in the last 6 mos for one reason or another and just don't want 4 window installs on my hard drive if that is what it is doing

Slidder
When you do an overinstall of windows it does not just add another whole copy of it... it actually overwrites what is in the windows directory.

As far as clickspring I would suggest that you run the drill listed Here

Run the free online housecall antivirus scan

Then download and run Spybot S&D per instructions and allow spybot to fix all problems found

The download and run HiJack this per instructions and post the results into a new thread in the security forum to have the virus guru's have a look at it.

Here is some info on ClickSpring and Purityscan

Hi again,

I havent posted for the longest time because I havent needed help.....
But would you believe I did exactly the same thing as I did last time I had trouble with my computer, I gave permission for my 13 year old nephew to use my computer. This time I've learned my lesson though, he'll never get access to my PC again. He reckons he only went on myspace and msn hotmail.
I very much doubt it.

I'm now getting constant pop-ups and script errors in IE.

Anyway I would be greatful if someone could check my logs. Thanks very much.
Oh and is there anyway to tell which sites he did visit so I can rip it into him.

I get maybe 5 or more script errors daily from my dialup isp. They run in the background and either bog down the computer or, in a couple cases, have disconnected me.

I'm tired of asking them for help to fix this...all they want to do is sell me programs to fix this.
One rep even told me that the original cd was corrupt, sent me another cd and, yep...still get script errors.

Is there a way to stop these errors? winxp professional Ie8

Thanks in advance.

Post one such error message, please.

Script errors generally are webpage errors in coding. There is nothing that can be done by a webpage visitor about such, other than to choose to ignore such or not received notifications of such.

Hi, let us have some Pc specifications.
Check and post
TSG System Information Utility - found here.
http://static.techguy.org/download/SysInfo.exe

Download Security Check by screen317 from.
http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/
Or
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/securitycheck/dl/123/

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click the install icon.
If using Vista - Win 7 - right click the install icon and select "Run as Administrator"
A command Prompt window will open.
Let it scan the Pc - press any key when asked.
It should now open in Notepad.
Copy and Paste the result of the scan in the reply box below.

The saved log will be called checkup.txt.

Hi there

Open up control panel, click on Network and Internet, and go to Internet Options to open up the properties box, click on the 'Advanced' tab. Scroll down and and See if the option 'Display a notification about every script error' is checked or unchecked. If it is checked remove the tick, click on apply, then click OK and then restart Explorer. See if this cures the problem.

I am running IE 8 on Win XP sp3. About a week ago I noticed pages not loading correctly and I keep getting script errors when I click on the yellow triangle on the bottom left of the screen.

For example, I will log on to Facebook and when I click to go into my photos I get a script error and page does not load properly. I then go back to the home page and same issue. Then I will refresh and it works just fine.

Most of the time when I do refresh it does not work. The page will simply not load.

I googled the problem and the responses suggest I go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced and then check the boxes Disable Script Debugging. That had no effect.

Why do I keep getting these script errors on this computer. My laptop has no issues except very rarely.

Anyone have any suggestions to fix this issue. I can post some of the errors if needed.

Thanks for any help provided.

I've gone to the Advanced tab of the Internet Properties and found that the "Disable script debugging" box is checked....and the "Display a notification about every script error" is unchecked.....which are the recommendations I've read about on how to fix

Thanks

Hi
I have a friend using dial-up peoplepc (I know!), anyhow every time she logs on about 6 IE script errors must be clicked thru.
I've done a fresh install of her Win XP Media, clean install of peoplepc, checked off all the correct boxes in debugging script etc. in Internet Options and they will not stop!
Trying to find help on the Internet results in a lot of people with the same problem, folks trying to help with all the same answers, NO help from peoplepc.
It seems like an IE problem, but it doesn't happen on the same computer unless it is logged on thru peoplepc - leads me to believe PPC is involved.
I've tried IE6, IE7 and IE8
I used the uninstall tool for Norton/Symantec products also.
Anybody?

A:Script Errors

Have you gone in IE to tools/ internet options / advanced
Click the box by "Disable script debugging IE"
Same by "Disable script debugging other"
Uncheck "display a notificaiton of every script error"

http://secunia.com/software_inspector/
Go to secuinia and scan to ensure that you have the latest flash player and java.
If it detects any older flash players or java runtime environments uninstall them in add/ remove programs . You should only have one , the latest version of JRE (1.6.0_04 or Environment 6 update 4) and adobe flash player 9,0,115,0

Generally when you get the error you mention it can be traced to either a popup blocker function incorrectly interpreting the command to open flash player plugin as a popup and blocking it (try turning off the popup blocker and see if it solves it) or a problem with older plugins remaining and not properly launching the current player (uninstall all macromedia and shockwave players and get the adobe player)

It has been a while since I encountered the problem with Norton Internet Security ; but there is a place in its config where you have to disable something because it has a conflict ( think hotfix 818529 may have been the one causing it when I encountered it last) . All I can think of now is scripting.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...=tranus_con_br
for reference
I think the proper approach is to uninstall all norton products, restart the computer and reinstall them and then... Read more
