Playing Movies On Plasma Through Laptop

Q: Playing Movies On Plasma Through Laptop

I hooked my laptop up to my Plasma TV via S-video and for the sound, RCA to headphone jack. It works fairly well, but with two issues:

1) The video input is bigger than the TV screen. To explain, when I see my desktop on the TV screen and I move the cursor to the far edges of the screen, the screen scrolls a little bit. The movies play, but they are cropped on the sides. Where or how can I adjust this to make the input from the computer fit the TV screen?

2) The sound is muffled. I don't have a receiver hooked up yet and I tinkered with the sound adjustments in the movie player and on the laptop, but I can't figure out how to make it better. Any ideas?

Thanks, please post your thoughts on these issues.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My laptop is a IBM Thinkpad T60(Yeah, ancient, but it works) with with an intel T2500 dual core clocked at 2GHz, 2 GB of RAM and an ATI x1400 mobility. I got it new (it was bought but never used by the company I work for) recently, and immediately installed some games onto it to see what exactly it could do. After maybe 6-10 minutes depending on the game the laptop freezes, there's no on screen artifacts, just a frozen screen and a loop of whatever sound was playing last, which forces me to do a hard reset.
This is all fine and dandy, I can live without playing games on my laptop, so I left it alone. Until yesterday in which it did the same thing while watching a movie. I read through the first 3 pages of google and searched through the TSG forums, but I found nothing that fixed my problem.
Hope someone can help with this, I'd be satisfied with running low end games and movies. I'm just worried this is going to get worse.
Thanks.

In the past after a reboot I would successfully have my TV work as my monitor, but only with on-mobob video processor with the RGB cable going to the computer or TV. My dilemma is even after adjusting my display settings to automatically check for new display settings (warning this will slow up start up time) I still cannot get my 8800 gts to display into a RGB port. I have my DVI to RGB adapter connected to the card and the RGB cable refuses to display with either my monitor or plasma TV. Luckily my monitor has a DVI port but my 50 inch plasma doesn't. I'm going to assume the adapter here isn't broken and i've missed some configuration settings on vista or the 8800, maybe my gts 8800 isn't configured to plug and play nice with RGB ports? How do I fix this issue?

Hi Guys,

I have issues with my desktop. I randomly get the bsod (kernel data inpage error). I thought it started after I installes the new ATI drivers. So I tried older drivers but without any result. After that I thought it was an issues with Win 7 64bit. So I installed 32bit. But still I get the bsdod.

can you please help?

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:

Quote:
Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.
If you're having difficulties with installing a Service Pack, please use the SURTool from this link: What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
Also, check out this troubleshooting link from Microsoft: Troubleshoot problems installing Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

I have had limited success in installing updates/Service Packs when using a "clean boot". I suspect that I'm just bypassing the problem - and that it can come back to bite me in the butt later on.

Hello,

Start on some hardware tests, namely the three Prime95 tests and Memtest86.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...t-prime95.html

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

If you have another graphics card you can try out, that would also be a good idea.

Also, what is the make/model of your PSU?

Hi @Noath17bell, Welcome to the HP Forum. I grasp that you downloaded movies onto an USB drive,  when you try to play them , the ones in  MPEG format has both video and audio.but the other formats you get the video but no audio. As this does not appear to be a hardware issue, but a software one please contact Chromebook Help.  HP does not support the Chrome operating system but does support the hardware.  This link may also be useful. HP Chrome OS - Frequently Asked Questions about Your HP Chromebook or Chromebox. Good Luck! To say thanks for helping, please click the "Thumbs Up Icon" below. Today I purchased a d-sub cord to hook my computer up to my Plasma and plugged everything in the appropriate ports on either end.
I've gone ito display settings, selected the option to diplay onto a second screen aswell, changed the pixels to 1024/768 which is what Sanyo say it should be set as, and away we go.... Unfortuantely not though.

At first, my desktop picture was displayed but nothing else. No icons, programs, nothing. Then, I trioed changed a few other settings and reset the computer when prompted. When it started back up again, I could see the Windows XP icon, and that it was loading displayed on the plasma but not the laptop screen, but as soon as that finished, I lost picture again from the plasma and it reverted back to the laptop to show me the login screen with differant users.

Please please please somebody help me resolve this issue. I'm desperate to surf the net and play my old NES roms on my 42' plasma and I only have this weekend left until its back to work. Anyone out there that has the perfect fix?

Dan.

p.s, I think the driver is NVIDIA. That is what pops up so I'm guessing that's wha you'd call a driver. I really am very clueless in this respect.

A:Connect laptop to plasma tv via wireless

You would need to look for an AV sender unit.

Such as this type of device:
http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/en/product/L5960

Thats a NZ link, but similar devices will exist in the UK.

Don't expect the range they quote, in my experience. Also the laptop output (which will be S-Video most likely, to interface) will be relatively low resolution and may suck on a large screen, although Plasma is not a high resolution device anyway.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 and a large Samsung Plasma HDTV.

The HDTV has inputs for HDMI, PC (ie - monitor cable) and composite video / audio

My laptop has monitor out, as well as an adapter that plugs into the S-Video port on my laptop, and has an output of S-Video, Composite Video (Yellow), and another composite output (black, not sure what this is for)

Anyway, I tested using the Video composite (yellow) to the TV. It worked.. but the display is not clear at all. It's kind of blury but also the text seems to have a shadow.

As soon as I plugged in the adapter to the laptop my laptop changed resolution automatically to 1024x768. The only other option is 800x600, which only shows part of the screen and isn't any clearer.
I guess I should just buy a long computer monitor type cable instead? (and use the monitor out on my laptop and PC connection on HDTV) and see if that displays better.

But any ideas if there is a way to make the display clear using the composite video cable?
Thanks

I recently tried hooking my HP G60 laptop up to my 50in Element plasma tv using a VGA cable to take movies that I have downloaded on my laptop and watch them on the tv to sort of do away with having to burn the movies onto a DVD. I had no luck with the VGA cable as I got no picture what so ever on the tv. So I went out and purchased a HDMI cable after do much research on the internet on what was the best option to hook your computer up to your High Def tv and found that using an HDMI cable was a great option as you can achieve video and sound from one cable (or so I had thought).

I hooked the cable into the HDMI slot 1 on the back of my plasma and into the HDMI port on my laptop. I can get perfect picture, but I have yet to achieve any sound coming out of the tv, I was of course able to get sound out of the laptop speakers but when I did some searches online of ways to get the sound to transfer over to the tv speakers, everything that I tried left me still with no sound. I have did endless searches with basically almost every search that I do or forum that I read on giving a different answer or way to go about it, and I am basically stuck about to give up and need some guidance or insight or something.

I'm not fabulous or a genius on computers but I am pretty decent at them so I will do my best to answer anything that I may need to. Just please be gentle

Thanks in advance!!

Shannon

Hi robin3

Maybe he was using some cracked or third party codec pack bundled with spyware/adware. Removing the spyware may prevent it from working.

Uninstall all third party codec packs using add/remove programs then install the K-lite codec pack (standard version, install ffdshow).

If he still can't play the movies then use media player classic (file => properties => details) or vlc (ctrl+i => details) to identify the required codec.

Hi everyone,

My brother got a blu-ray movie for Christmas and wants to play it in the blu-ray drive he has on his computer. I believe it's an LG drive (BD-RW).

The drive came with a bunch of software including PowerDVD 8. However, neither PowerDVD nor Windows Media Player will play the movie. It says it's an unsupported format.

What kind of software do I need to get the movie to work in the blu-ray drive? I've heard I need to upgrade to the Ultra version of PowerDVD to be able to watch blu-ray movies, but it seems dumb to me that I need to buy extra software to watch the movie.

Thanks.

A:Playing Blu-Ray Movies

There were two versions of PowerDVD 8, 1) DVD only, 2) DVD and BluRay. Based on the error, I'd say you have the DVD only version.

You don't need the "Ultra version", but you will likely need the latest version (ie: 12).

Thanks to anyone who can help - I'm trying to display images on a Plasma HDTV tomorrow at a wedding reception ... no pressure

There is no output to my Panasonic Viera HDTV from my HP Pavillion dv2500 laptop using the HDMI port.

I am using a cable that is normally plugged into (and therefore currently working!) my HD Tivo. The TV is set to the input normally used by the HDMI cable for the tivo. After plugging into my laptop, I press the Fn+F4 keys, and a small graphic in the lower right of the screen pops up to indicate it's trying to clone the display, but nothing happens.

HI
I've been trying to burn movies ( avi, divx) to cdr, preferably in Vcd, so that i can play then in a stand alone dvd player.
I've been using Nero v.5.5.6.4; and the movies play fine on the pc, but not the Dvd player ( which is vcd compatible).

I have a 4X burner , and the video encoding/burning can take up to 4hrs for a 70 minute movie excerpt. Is that normal?
Is there any way I can get a full movie ( average time 120min) on 1 cd/vcd.
I've been playing movies on pc using win media player, sometimes Alpha divx player. Some movies allow the option of changing video setting, while other don't. anything i can do?

First off, I use Windows xp

I use Windows Media player and it's always worked fine for me. LATELY, when I try to move the curser (to maybe skip something in the video or something) and set it to where I want, or even just enlarge the movie/video to full screen, the picture acts weird and then after about 10 seconds the video might be playing slow and the sound doesn't match up. Or sometimes when I move the curser or fullscreen, there is picture, but no sound. It doesn't happen to EVERY video but I can say 70 percent of videos I watch, it happens to.

Even when I watch streams, if I move the curser, it does the same thing.

I've tried system restore and reinstalled Windows Media Player but no use.

Any idea on what it is or what I can do?

I use my Pc only for playing WoW,Dota and movies and all was O K untill 1 month ago when for no reason(yet) my Pc freezed while i was watching movie, ctrl + alt+ del didnt work so i needed to restart my pc.After that i check the hardware for overheat but it was fine so i started the movie again and same thing. Then i restart it again and started WoW and i played like 14 h and nothing heppend,Pc didnt freeze. So i suspect that the codec's were the reason so i downloaded the lastest codec and latest Bs Player, started the SAME movie again and same heppend,so i deleted the movie and started other one and same thing.I formated Windows Xp Sp 3 and get all latest software, drivers, codec's,antivirus etc etc.And started a movie again and Pc freezed again. So i made a lots of tests and scan's for my hard disk Seagate 80 Gb Sata Raid to see for BAD sector and there was none. And now i dont know what is the reason that i cant play a movie but i can play games all day.
I hope that some1 knows what i need to do.
Thanks for reading.

I reformatted my PC this weekend, and now when I try to play .wmv files in my browser, they will not play. I am running XP Pro (SP2), fully updated, IE and Avant browsers, and have winamp, WMP, quicktime alternative, real player alternative. I have never encountered this problem after other reformats.

A:Playing movies in browser

Hiya

Go to Control panel | Internet Options. Security tab. Custom Settings.
Make sure the drop down menu is set to Medium, reset, yes. If its on medium already, reset anyway.

Is it just wmv's online that you have a problem with?

Also, in Internet options, Advanced tab. Scroll down to Multimedia, and make sure Play Videos in Web Pages is ticked. If its not, tick, apply and ok.

Regards

eddie

This isn't my problem, but someone asked me about it, and it seemed so interesting I thought I'd ask here.

it must be some sort of setting, BUT, why would it have a setting for playing them upside down in the first place?

he said he had been fooling around with it, but didn't think he changed anything or "applied" anything different.

I have asked him what his OS/browser etc is.

Has anyone ever heard of this, let alone have a way to fix it? I suggested he reinstall the players, and he had said he might have to wipe the harddrive and redo everything, but that is a last resort.
--------------------------------------------------

I don't know why, but for a few days now Windows Media Player, DivX Player
2.0 and PowerDVD have all been stubbornly insisting on playing all of my
movies upside down. It's driving me totally round the bend. I thank God
every day that RealOne player is able to play movies the right way up and
that Powever DVD is able to play my DVD disks the right way up.

Thanks,
Carrie

I use Windows Media player and it's always worked fine for me. LATELY, when I try to move the curser (to maybe skip something in the video or something) and set it to where I want, or even just enlarge the movie/video to full screen, the picture acts weird and then after about 10 seconds the video might be playing slow and the sound doesn't match up. Or sometimes when I move the curser or fullscreen, there is picture, but no sound. It doesn't happen to EVERY video but I can say 70 percent of videos I watch, it happens to.

Even when I watch streams, if I move the curser, or enlarge the screen, it does the same thing.

I've tried system restore and reinstalled Windows Media Player but no use.

I have no other problems with things that would use my video card like games and all that, so I don't know...

Any idea on what it is or what I can do?

A:Movies on WMP not playing correctly..

Hi there, welcome to TSF...

Do you have any other players installed....can you play the same content on those players without a problem?

It may be an idea to install a new codec pack such as K-Lite??

The only other thing I can recommend is checking through the program settings.

Kind Spirits,
I try to run these but but alas I do so in vain. Windows Media Player bemoans a lack of codec, and VLC Media Player simply despairs. I have scoured the internet for precious hidden codecs but to no avail. Is there any amongst you who are willing to asnwer my plea? Untold riches and rewards beyond all imagination await the brave man, or woman, who can offer an end to my dreadful plight.

A:Playing Original DVD Movies

Hi, I might not be of great help but I felt like I should say something. Now I take it you are trying to play movies and you don't have the codecs.

1) If this is a downloaded movie and it ask for codecs in VLC player = Virus

2) If original movie, asks for codec lets continue the fun.

Now try updating to the lates VLC player. I believe Realplayer it also something of good use.

Also try installing the codecs from here
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...codec_pack.htm

If possible if you could explain a little more to what movie you are trying to play, format, cd make etc.
Anything you think we shoud know.

Pc problem. DVD won't read movies, media player says it's blank, but file folder shows .bup .ifo and .vob files. Rip/reinstall found drivers of budgets and DVD drive. System restore did nothing. Still not playing videos. But does play music cds fine. I am using windows 8 and windows media player to try and view, and opening the folder to view the different type of files. I conferred with my tech friends, and they are as stumped as me. So, now I leave it in you guys/gals hands.

Try downloading Free version of the VLC player as a test and see if the movies play on that.

I recently purchased a Kodak DX6340 Digital Camera. I would like to record videos to insert into Presentations for Compliance Training at our facility. The camera records just fine and will play in Quick Time Player; however, I want to play these movies in Windows Medial Player or insert into PowerPoint. I continue to get the message that the file is corrupt or not in a format that PowerPoint or that Windows Media Player will read. I have many times to associate the movie file with these applications or change to open in these applications and it does not work. I have also tried with numerous movie files. Any suggestions?

A:Playing movies in PowerPoint

Quicktime movies won't play in Powerpoint

Windows Media files (.wmv) and MPEG files (.mpeg, .mpg) are good options to insert into Windows Powerpoint presentations. These file formats offer good quality video at small file sizes. Mpeg or Mpg is the better choice

MPEG files (.mpeg, .mpg) are good choices for cross-platform presentations with inserted movies.

Hyperlinked Quicktime movies (.mov) work well with the Windows Powerpoint application, but Quicktime must be installed on the computer.

The DVD drive I have is an LG GSA-H22L.
It has a DVD read of 16x. The problem I'm having is that when I use it to watch movies the playback is kind of jerky or rough. The sound and video skips, and at some points it's all just moves in slow motion. I'm not sure why.
With my old DVD-ROM (a much older drive in a much older computer) the DVD playback was perfectly smooth. So I'm kind of confused as to why, when I'm using a newer drive in a better computer, with newer software (the PowerDVD 6.0 that came bundled with the drive) the playback is worse.

If anyone knows anything that could help, your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

But this is really weird. On one of them can only play four movies, if i copy a fifth movie or more, none of them or al of the rest will not play. The other USB is the same, but that one can hold and play nine movies not more. I tried formatting them the fast way and the long way. I am lost, please someone tell me what the heck this can be.

Greetings

Well i got some odd issues while trying to play 3D BD Movies on my laptop recently,
Since i bought it I never had any problems with playing 3D BD movies with PowerDVD, till around 3-4 days ago, when i tried to play something i got this message and powerDVD was unable to play it : "3D Experience requires 3D enabled TV and player" ... tried some more movies but they were only able to be played in 2D ...

I googled it and the solution on cyperlink's site was disabling hardware accelerator as it disable True Theather, now here's the problem, in the main menu,i press CTR+C --> Video --> and I do remove the check mark in front of Enable Hardware Accelerator (ATI Avivo), OK and out. BUT each time i play a movie the Hardware acceletor option greys out with a mark and i'm unable to change it, not sure what happened, a few weeks ago HP assisst manager updated both CCC driver and PowerDVD but i'm not sure since when exactly i'm unable to play 3D BDs with it.

Also tried TotalMedia Theather 5 but still no result, it can play movies just in 2D and the 3D option is unavailable. I searched a lot but i was unable to find a solution, red many stuffs in ATi or cyperlink etc. updating VGA driver, run TriDignition diag test, downloaded and installed AMD Media Codec Package , Restart the computer -.- (oh c'mon) etc. none of them worked !

I'm not sure what cause the problem and i was unable to disable hardware accelerator in advanced setting --> trobleshooting as t... Read more

If that does'nt work try reinstalling the player. (make sure it's free)
