Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer giving problems.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've never posted on a help forum before, so please bear with me.

I have a Dell Studio 1749 laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Windows Explorer is not working. That is, Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer. It seemed like every forum I already checked this confused people. The only way I am able to communicate with you fine folks is to manually run Firefox using the Task Manager interface. Here are the things I have tried, and the things that I am incapable of trying, and why:

1.) I tried booting in safe mode. Windows Explorer still would not work.

2.) I tried booting with only the bare necessities through System Configuration (msconfig) by selecting Diagnostic Startup, but the problem still occurred when I would boot to my desktop.

3.) I tried doing a system restore to 3 days ago, before the problem ever occurred, but it simply didn't seem to take, as some software I installed just last night was still here when it booted. That was a weird one.

4.) I tried rebooting with a chkdsk /r, but I could not get this to work because in order to set that up, you need to be able to run the command prompt with administrative privileges, which I cannot because Windows Explorer is not working. (I feel that maybe there is some secret way to do a chkdsk without needing the command prompt, but I couldn't find instructions anywhere.)

5.) I tried uninstalling the software that I believe to be the culprit, which happens to be Skype. Last night I received some pictu... Read more

This is a weird issue that needs to get fixed. We have 2 accounts on our computer. We have Internet Explorer and Firefox installed. Internet explorer works perfectly on my account but on my moms account - when she tries to go to any website it says:

On my account when I open firefox I get this message before it opens:

Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

Hi,
This is my first post here, so I hope that I follow all of the rules. And thanks in advance for any help. My computer has been running slow for a while, and I think one of my kids might have gone to a website that allowed some malware in. My OS is Windows XP SP3. I have noticed a few things, 1. Had a problem with Adobe acrobat reader, it wouldn't update for some reason, and couldn't open PDF files for a while, after uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I think it is now working. Also noticed more recently when working in MS Word 03 every once in a while it won't let me save files. Now I am noticing that when I have Internet Explorer open for a while, IE tries to pop open a new window, to which the IP address is blocked by K9 web protection 91.212.226.6 is the IP. After googling this IP address, I found a few posts leading me to think there might be a trojan kicking around on my pc. I have run MBAM and Hijackthis in an attempt to find the culprit, but MBAM comes up clean, and I can't find it on Hijackthis. Any help woould be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hello

This is my first time registering for one of these kinds of forums, so I'm not familiar with protocol. I'll just explain what the problem is.

I noticed last night, when I was trying to transfer photos from my cell phone to my laptop, that every time I tried to copy the pictures and move them, windows explorer would crash. I gave up, and today the problems started to get worse. The audio keeps turning off and on, and windows explorer is still crashing, but now my entire laptop slows down every time I open it. I already ran CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in safe mode, but halfway through the anti-malware scan my computer just turned off. Also, I installed ProcessExplorer, but I didn't see anything that looks weird, but I'm not very familiar with different processes. I'm not sure what's going on anymore, but I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks!

I got to install Shadow Explorer today only for testing and now I found I've got a 'Z' drive at my computer drive list. When I clicked it to see, it reads that (translation from Portuguese) 'Z:\ might refer to a not available location. It can be at a hard drive in this computer or in a network. Verify if the drive is correctly inserted or if you are connected to the Internet or to a network and try again. If the drive cannot be found, the information contained could be found at somewhere else' and I cannot access it by any other way

I don't know if Z:\ is part of Shadow Explorer or not (it appeared today after it was installed) and I don't know if this is something from the software, or a virus, or someone trying to get into my network or some kind of trick Windows is doing...

Anyone who knows best Shadow Explorer could help me with that

Good morning,
This may be a common error and a probably easy one to solve. But since I am not a computer expert I need your help please.
When I run the Network Diagnostics for Windows XP, it shows:
"Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP.
This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.
Check the firewall settings for the HTTP Port (80); HTTPS Port (443) and FTP Port (21).

I would like to clarify that I have not changed the firewall settings. This problem appeared after a run a deep MSE and showed me that I was infected with bacdoor:win32/cycbot.B.

Apparently MSE cleaned and removed the mentioned virus. The rest of the computer is working just fine but I cannot get it to the internet.

I do know for a fact that I have internet connection, since I have an network and I am writing you from another computer within the network.

Will someone be able to help me????? Please????

Hello. First off I will not be able to access safe mode, as I do not have the password needed for it.

For my problems, when I first notied them, windows explorer had crashed, and I lost teh taskbar, and all Icons, although programs still worked, and could be started via task viewer. Using that to try to restart explorer wouldn't work. I then restarted the comuter, and explorer caused a message box to pop up saying that it had caused errors and neded to be shut down. In addition, whenever I try to run internet explorer, it brings up an error message saying that it will be shut down and asks for an error message to be sent. If you elect to restart it afterwards, it always brings up the same error, although if you ignore this, you can continue like normal. I fiddled around and got explorer.exe to run, but it would crash as soon as you tried to use it, so while I had it up, I used processexploer to track doen its threads, and I found one that was attatched to qanqdo.dll, and it was using most of the processing used by explorer.exe. I used process explorer to kill that thread, and after that, explorer seemed to work, until after a computer restart. After I got it to work, I ran Hijack this, which for some reason wouldn't let me save a log, so I had to write the lines that looked suspicious. Here they are:

O20 - AppInit _DLLs:qanqdo.dll

I also went through and by hand deleted this Facegame file set, and can no longer find it, although it still has an entry in Hijack th... Read more

So my problem is when I use IE or MSN explorer I can't click and go anywhere Like in Pogo I can get IN pogo but not to individual games or rooms. In MSN groups I can get in most groups but I can't post any reply or new discussion. When I click on a link or a button it just sits there and goes no where.

My word pad is now missing

I can't turn my computer ON after turning it off for even a second without using a hair dryer on the back of it for SEVERAL minutes

I cannot acces system restore. It is just a blank white page
I run Windows XP (Dell Dimensions 4550)

I have done hijack this so many times I can't count. I've done killbox, I've run my ad/spyware scans, I've done registry repair, I've done registy first aid I have done my virus scans too

I tried to uninstall and reinstall my IE and and MSN explorer and I don't think it even UNinstalled. I reinstalled using a disc I got with my computer but it didn't do anything different. Still acted the same. This started about a week and a half ago. I have emptied my prefetch, my temp folders and my cache thingie. No change tho.

I am trying to verify the contents of two folders on my network using Windows Explorer.  I will attached a screenshot as soon as they verify my account.
In the left pane, is my original folder selected (\\NAS02-4DD\usbshare1-2\Archive\Metal Building\A & S\Drawings\NSDrawings) and then I right click and hit properties to see the file count and size of the folder.

In the right pane is the copied folder selected (\\NAS02-4DD\Archives\0Arch\Metal Buildings\A & S\Drawings\NSDrawings) doing the same thing.

You can see what the properties are by the two respective NSDrawings Properties windows.  They do not match.  However, if you physically count the files, and even look in the bottom left corner of each window (after I hit CtrlA) you will see there
are indeed 902 files in each folder.  I have re-booted all 3 machines associated with these files, and can not get them to ever read the same when I view the properties of each folder.
This is a HUGE problem when it comes to trying to verify if my files have indeed copied in full from users computers to a new N.A.S. unit.

Is there a solution or other way to verify this information without having to open each folder and view its' contents manually?  I am going to be moving about 8TB of information around, and all of it needs to be verified after moving.

Thank you.

I recently noticed that the system was trying to do 7 updates every day at closedown, and found that update was giving a return code of 800736b3.

I have run SURT several times, and it doesn't seem to give any results (or should I be looking somewhere else?).

I ran sfc /scannow and extracted the results and they are in sfcdetails.txt (attached). SFC said there were some files it couldn't fix, even though sfcdetails.txt says it has fixed all of them.

CBS.zip is much too big to upload using the paperclip - is there another way?

I tried restoring to an earlier restore point, and unfortunately all the attempted updates have flushed my list of restore points - and the oldest few all give me a return code of x00000022.

Not sure if this is one problem or two...! I am reluctant to do a System Recovery as it sounds pretty drastic - help would be much appreciated!

PS Is any more info required?

When i surf some sites, mostly hotmail. I always get the message "object moved here". So when i click on a page, it will direct me to a page that writes "object moved here" and then i'll need to click on the word "here" before i can access my page.

Recently, i cant seem to see all the images and yes, i can't see all the smilies and icons on the post thread now, which is wierd and i get this message when i'm surfing the net at times:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address

which i find it wierd because my messenger is still able to connect and my brother's computer which uses the same connection is also able to connect but my internet just doesn't seem to be able display the webpage.

hope to hear from you soon.

A:IE 7 giving problems

Hi bearbear,

please try running IE7 without addons to see if the same happens:

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
iexplore -extoff
- Click OK
- Test with a few sites to see it the same problem occurs...please bear in mind that when you run IE with no addons, some website will cease to work as normal if they depend on certain addons. Ignore any new problems, just try to concentrate on the original issue and post back your findings please.

If that doesn't give any results, it may be an idea to temporary disable your firewall for a little bit and run IE in its normal mode. Some firewalls include features which affect how webpages load and are displayed so it could be a configuration problem. Remember to re-enable your firewall when you have finished testing.

Have you previously upgraded from IE6 to version 7? If yes, did these problem used to happen previously?

Hi all,

I recently installed a plug and play Ethernet adapter into my pc which is Win7. I am trying to LAN with a windows XP pc (which previously worked with my onboard adapter).

When I view the status of the Local area connection, it shows that there are packets being sent and received to and from both pcs. But I CANNOT see the win XP pc in my network as I am not on the existing network with it?

A:LAN giving problems?

what you mean you can not see?
can you ping the other pc?
is firewall configured and network detection and file sharing on?
if you type "\\[computername]" (or ip) does it work?
does they have good ip configuration?

Try right clicking on the IE icon, left click "Properties," left click "Connections," make sure your AOL connection is listed, make it your default connection and check the button "Always dial my default connection."

Certain web pages were causing IE to shut down. Loaded and ran Spybot. Problem is now worse. Each time I try and download an e-mail from my hotmail account, run a Mapquest search or even try to download certain Microsoft help sites (including updates), IE shuts down and gives me an error message. Thought it might have something to do with Spybot but can't seem to spot the problem.

If anyone knows what might be causing this, your assistance would be most appreciated.

Thnx

I installed the software for a cable modem on my computer, it automatically set the computer up to connect through it. The problem is that I no longer use the cable modem on that computer, I uninstalled everything that was associated with @home that I could find, I'm now trying to connect that computer to the internet through a proxy server. What's happened though is that when I go to internet options, connection, LAN settings it's set to use the automatic configuration script. I delete the settings, unselect the radio button and click ok, then close internet explorer. I reopen it and the settings are back to what I deleted. I tried deleting them in the control panel, internet options too but to no avail. I searched the registry for the settings and upgraded to IE6, neither of these things helped either. Any help of how to get rid of these settings would be great.

Download and run this WinSock repair utility from here > http://tinyurl.com/2dk6b. It will restore your WinSock settings (used it myself more times than I care to remember and it works like a charm)

Hello viper92283 and welcome to the BC HijackThis forum. I don't see any signs of viruses or malware in the log. It is clean. The current issues might be caused by resetting the winsock stack. Trend Micro places its own entires in the stack and resetting it would have removed these entries. You could try uninstalling and reinstalling TM. If that doesn't resolve it then I would suggest posting in the Windows XP Home and Professional forum and let the techs there have a look at the system. They can analyze what's running and make any recommendations for repairing non-functioning systems. Let them know that you have been to this forum and that no malware was found.Cheers.OT

I'm having problems with my internet explorer. For the last couple days I have not been able to log into my hotmail account. I put in my username and password, hit enter, and then I immediately get a page saying "This page can not be displayed," and the address isn't even that of my inbox. I can't log in to any MSN sites, and randomly I'll click on a link on a page and it won't go anywhere... no matter how many times I click it. This happened when I was trying to submit info for an online virus check last night. Also, I can't download many things off free sites- I managed (after FOREVER) to download the panda software virus check, but with other things the links just didn't go anywhere- internet explorer didn't even TRY to open the link, no matter how many times I clicked.

I checked all my internet settings to see if something had accidentally been changed, then tried hotmail, etc, again. Didn't work, so I put the factory settings back on, and it still didn't work.
I also ran my ad aware just in case, and it came up with nothing.

This is driving me nuts. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Hey guys,

My internet explorer seems to be having a little trouble. I'll turn it on and it will work for 5 or 10 minutes (maybe more maybe less) and then just shut off by itself. I've tried to reinstall the newer IE files from Microsoft and that all went fine, but I'm still having trouble. I've got Windows 98SE, with IE version 6.0.2800.1106IC. Is version 6 compatible with 98? If it isn't I can just go to Microsoft and get an earlier version. Anybody with any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've seen a lot of stuff with my computer but never this before. If you need any other information just ask.

Thanks,
John

Hello sailorvenus,

This log appears to be from Safe Mode. In order to see what's going on, we need the scan to be performed in Normal Mode. Also, to be sure we're seeing everything on your system, please go to Start>Run type msconfig press Enter and enable all startups by selecting Normal Startup - Load all Device Drivers and Services, reboot and run another scan with HijackThis and post the new log so we can get started.

my internet explorer 32 bit has these little problems which i believe are all related, a small minor problem is ctrl-f find does let me search, it opens but will not let me press next or previous,

another minor problem is whenever it opens or click home page, the google text box isn't automatically selected so i have to click on the text box to search

now the major problems, some web pages do not load, the most notable is hotmail, runonce does not load as well, it just loads a blank white screen

another problem is i cannot get the security warnings to appear so i cannot install some programs such as flash, which leads to my next problem that videos do not display on any site

my 64 bit internet explorer runs fine, i have tried no add ons but the same problems still occur, i have reset internet explorer with the same problems and i have run the sfc thing and it said no problems found so no i am stuck

i am currently using firefox but would like to use internet explorer and i wouldn't care about the 32 bit not working but adobe have not released flash for 64 bit internet explorer yet, thanks in advance

A:Problems with Internet Explorer

Try the following and see if they help.

First check the security level.
Lower the security level and then try the site.
If you still can't load the web page try this.
Go to start
Find
Type in "Hosts" with no extension and without the quotes
There are files called host.sam but that is not the file your looking for.
Change the name of the hosts file, if there is one to hosts.old
Try the site again.
This will not always work. Only if you have the hosts file it might.

Using Internet Explorer 11, I had two problems:

1. I would often get error messages that Internet Explorer would stop working, and
2. Certain items wouldn't work. For example, nothing happened when  I clicked on "Make a Payment" or if I tried to "Look Inside" a book on amazon.com. Perhaps the browser is not recognizing Java even though it is enabled.

Other web browsers worked fine. I tried reverting to Internet Explorer 10, but the problems persists. How can I fix them? I am using Windows 7 64-bit on an HP Pavilion computer, model p6630f.

If you have an XP CD please do the following, otherwise move on to the next step:
Click Start>Run and type in sfc /scannow
This will check to make sure all protected Windows files are intact. If it finds any problems it may prompt you to insert your XP CD.

Click Start>Run and type in eventvwr.msc

What we're looking for are the Errors from the System and Application viewers. You'll see something like this: Application Error...

Locate the ones with a big red X that say error. Double click to open it. Hit the Tablet (Says Copy to Clipboard if you hover mouse over it) and then CTRL+V to paste the info into the post. Paste the first five errors from each section please.
