Internet Explorer giving problems.

Q: Internet Explorer giving problems.

I have Windows Vista + all updates.

IE: giving problems.

It feezes! I can open other tabs, but that particular tab will stay frozen and be unresponsive.
The only way to shut down is forcefully.

I couldn't find any updates for it on Windows.com.

Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Internet Explorer giving problems.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've never posted on a help forum before, so please bear with me.

I have a Dell Studio 1749 laptop, running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

Windows Explorer is not working. That is, Windows Explorer, not Internet Explorer. It seemed like every forum I already checked this confused people. The only way I am able to communicate with you fine folks is to manually run Firefox using the Task Manager interface. Here are the things I have tried, and the things that I am incapable of trying, and why:

1.) I tried booting in safe mode. Windows Explorer still would not work.

2.) I tried booting with only the bare necessities through System Configuration (msconfig) by selecting Diagnostic Startup, but the problem still occurred when I would boot to my desktop.

3.) I tried doing a system restore to 3 days ago, before the problem ever occurred, but it simply didn't seem to take, as some software I installed just last night was still here when it booted. That was a weird one.

4.) I tried rebooting with a chkdsk /r, but I could not get this to work because in order to set that up, you need to be able to run the command prompt with administrative privileges, which I cannot because Windows Explorer is not working. (I feel that maybe there is some secret way to do a chkdsk without needing the command prompt, but I couldn't find instructions anywhere.)

5.) I tried uninstalling the software that I believe to be the culprit, which happens to be Skype. Last night I received some pictu... Read more

Hello... A few things first: I'm 14 years old... I have never taken computer classes - I teach myself everything by using google ... But I have good experience of fixing problems I run into on my computer.... I can follow instructions you give me.

This is a weird issue that needs to get fixed. We have 2 accounts on our computer. We have Internet Explorer and Firefox installed. Internet explorer works perfectly on my account but on my moms account - when she tries to go to any website it says:
Internet Explorer cannot display the web page.

On my account when I open firefox I get this message before it opens:

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

We need help! We do not wish to pay for Tech Support as I am good at fixing stuff that happens to our computer. If you could help me with this issue that would be great! This is my first post here, so I hope that I follow all of the rules. And thanks in advance for any help. My computer has been running slow for a while, and I think one of my kids might have gone to a website that allowed some malware in. My OS is Windows XP SP3. I have noticed a few things, 1. Had a problem with Adobe acrobat reader, it wouldn't update for some reason, and couldn't open PDF files for a while, after uninstalling and reinstalling several times, I think it is now working. Also noticed more recently when working in MS Word 03 every once in a while it won't let me save files. Now I am noticing that when I have Internet Explorer open for a while, IE tries to pop open a new window, to which the IP address is blocked by K9 web protection is the IP. After googling this IP address, I found a few posts leading me to think there might be a trojan kicking around on my pc. I have run MBAM and Hijackthis in an attempt to find the culprit, but MBAM comes up clean, and I can't find it on Hijackthis. Any help woould be appreciated.

This is my first time registering for one of these kinds of forums, so I'm not familiar with protocol. I'll just explain what the problem is.

I noticed last night, when I was trying to transfer photos from my cell phone to my laptop, that every time I tried to copy the pictures and move them, windows explorer would crash. I gave up, and today the problems started to get worse. The audio keeps turning off and on, and windows explorer is still crashing, but now my entire laptop slows down every time I open it. I already ran CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in safe mode, but halfway through the anti-malware scan my computer just turned off. Also, I installed ProcessExplorer, but I didn't see anything that looks weird, but I'm not very familiar with different processes. I'm not sure what's going on anymore, but I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks!

I got to install Shadow Explorer today only for testing and now I found I've got a 'Z' drive at my computer drive list. When I clicked it to see, it reads that (translation from Portuguese) 'Z:\ might refer to a not available location. It can be at a hard drive in this computer or in a network. Verify if the drive is correctly inserted or if you are connected to the Internet or to a network and try again. If the drive cannot be found, the information contained could be found at somewhere else' and I cannot access it by any other way
I don't know if Z:\ is part of Shadow Explorer or not (it appeared today after it was installed) and I don't know if this is something from the software, or a virus, or someone trying to get into my network or some kind of trick Windows is doing...
Anyone who knows best Shadow Explorer could help me with that

Good morning,
This may be a common error and a probably easy one to solve. But since I am not a computer expert I need your help please.
When I run the Network Diagnostics for Windows XP, it shows:
"Windows cannot connect to the internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP.
This is probably caused by firewall settings on this computer.
Check the firewall settings for the HTTP Port (80); HTTPS Port (443) and FTP Port (21).

I would like to clarify that I have not changed the firewall settings. This problem appeared after a run a deep MSE and showed me that I was infected with bacdoor:win32/cycbot.B.

Apparently MSE cleaned and removed the mentioned virus. The rest of the computer is working just fine but I cannot get it to the internet.

I do know for a fact that I have internet connection, since I have an network and I am writing you from another computer within the network.

Will someone be able to help me????? Please????

Hello. First off I will not be able to access safe mode, as I do not have the password needed for it.

For my problems, when I first notied them, windows explorer had crashed, and I lost teh taskbar, and all Icons, although programs still worked, and could be started via task viewer. Using that to try to restart explorer wouldn't work. I then restarted the comuter, and explorer caused a message box to pop up saying that it had caused errors and neded to be shut down. In addition, whenever I try to run internet explorer, it brings up an error message saying that it will be shut down and asks for an error message to be sent. If you elect to restart it afterwards, it always brings up the same error, although if you ignore this, you can continue like normal. I fiddled around and got explorer.exe to run, but it would crash as soon as you tried to use it, so while I had it up, I used processexploer to track doen its threads, and I found one that was attatched to qanqdo.dll, and it was using most of the processing used by explorer.exe. I used process explorer to kill that thread, and after that, explorer seemed to work, until after a computer restart. After I got it to work, I ran Hijack this, which for some reason wouldn't let me save a log, so I had to write the lines that looked suspicious. Here they are:

O20 - AppInit _DLLs:qanqdo.dll

I also went through and by hand deleted this Facegame file set, and can no longer find it, although it still has an entry in Hijack th... Read more

I cannot acces system restore. It is just a blank white page
I run Windows XP (Dell Dimensions 4550)

I have done hijack this so many times I can't count. I've done killbox, I've run my ad/spyware scans, I've done registry repair, I've done registy first aid I have done my virus scans too

I tried to uninstall and reinstall my IE and and MSN explorer and I don't think it even UNinstalled. I reinstalled using a disc I got with my computer but it didn't do anything different. I am trying to verify the contents of two folders on my network using Windows Explorer.  I will attached a screenshot as soon as they verify my account.
In the left pane, is my original folder selected (\\NAS02-4DD\usbshare1-2\Archive\Metal Building\A & S\Drawings\NSDrawings) and then I right click and hit properties to see the file count and size of the folder.

In the right pane is the copied folder selected (\\NAS02-4DD\Archives\0Arch\Metal Buildings\A & S\Drawings\NSDrawings) doing the same thing.

You can see what the properties are by the two respective NSDrawings Properties windows.  They do not match.  However, if you physically count the files, and even look in the bottom left corner of each window (after I hit CtrlA) you will see there
are indeed 902 files in each folder.  I have re-booted all 3 machines associated with these files, and can not get them to ever read the same when I view the properties of each folder.
This is a HUGE problem when it comes to trying to verify if my files have indeed copied in full from users computers to a new N.A.S. unit.

Is there a solution or other way to verify this information without having to open each folder and view its' contents manually?  I am going to be moving about 8TB of information around, and all of it needs to be verified after moving.

Thank you.

I recently noticed that the system was trying to do 7 updates every day at closedown, and found that update was giving a return code of 800736b3.

I have run SURT several times, and it doesn't seem to give any results (or should I be looking somewhere else?).

I ran sfc /scannow and extracted the results and they are in sfcdetails.txt (attached). SFC said there were some files it couldn't fix, even though sfcdetails.txt says it has fixed all of them.

CBS.zip is much too big to upload using the paperclip - is there another way?

I tried restoring to an earlier restore point, and unfortunately all the attempted updates have flushed my list of restore points - and the oldest few all give me a return code of x00000022.

Not sure if this is one problem or two...! I am reluctant to do a System Recovery as it sounds pretty drastic - help would be much appreciated!

PS Is any more info required?

Hi, i have some problem with my IE 7 recently.
When i surf some sites, mostly hotmail. I always get the message "object moved here". So when i click on a page, it will direct me to a page that writes "object moved here" and then i'll need to click on the word "here" before i can access my page.

Recently, i cant seem to see all the images and yes, i can't see all the smilies and icons on the post thread now, which is wierd and i get this message when i'm surfing the net at times:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address

which i find it wierd because my messenger is still able to connect and my brother's computer which uses the same connection is also able to connect but my internet just doesn't seem to be able display the webpage.

hope to hear from you soon.

A:IE 7 giving problems

Hi bearbear,

please try running IE7 without addons to see if the same happens:

- Click Start -> Run -> type:
iexplore -extoff
- Click OK
- Test with a few sites to see it the same problem occurs...please bear in mind that when you run IE with no addons, some website will cease to work as normal if they depend on certain addons. Ignore any new problems, just try to concentrate on the original issue and post back your findings please.

If that doesn't give any results, it may be an idea to temporary disable your firewall for a little bit and run IE in its normal mode. Some firewalls include features which affect how webpages load and are displayed so it could be a configuration problem. Remember to re-enable your firewall when you have finished testing.

Have you previously upgraded from IE6 to version 7? If yes, did these problem used to happen previously?

When I view the status of the Local area connection, it shows that there are packets being sent and received to and from both pcs. But I CANNOT see the win XP pc in my network as I am not on the existing network with it?

A:LAN giving problems?

what you mean you can not see?
can you ping the other pc?
is firewall configured and network detection and file sharing on?
if you type "\\[computername]" (or ip) does it work?
does they have good ip configuration?

my problem is that i can not get on to the internet. my user name on xp wont let me get on internet explorer but it will let me download stuff off of kazaa lite and let me get on AIM, and my connection is fine, i have checked it. when i first click on the site i want, like from my favorites or something, i can see that the page is there, but in a matter of seconds it looses it and acts like i am not connected to the internet. the webpage address reads "http://" and that is it, i am on my dads user name and obviously it will let me get on internet explorer on his name but not mine... if i manually type in the address, it still comes up that there is no connection and just gives me that c***** advice to refresh, please help

i am confused tho, it will not let me on to internet explorer on my user name but it will let any of the other ppl on my computer get on explorer

Please download HijackThis - this program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Create a folder at C:\HJT and move HijackThis.exe there. Run a scan and save the log file. Get HijackThis Analyzer and save it to the same folder as the hijackthis.log file. Run HijackThis Analyzer and type in y if you agree. Open up the result.txt file created. Copy the whole result.txt log and post it in the forum. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless.

I am having problems with Microsoft Internet Explorer. First of all, I don't use it as my default browser and the only way I can get to it is through program files. When I run PC PitStop's tests it says "The maximum size of your Internet Explorer browser cache is 1221 megabytes. This is a larger value than we recommend. " However, when I follow the steps to fix it, it says it's set to 10 MB. I've tried adjusting it up or down and applying but PC Pitstop always has the same result. Then, when I go to About Internet Explorer it says I have Version: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158. However, when I ran BrowserTune it said "Your browser identified itself as Microsoft Internet Explorer, and said it was this version:4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)." It also says "Your browser also uses this internal code name: Mozilla." which is currently my default browser but I do have Netscape installed for compatibility reasons. It also said "Browsers also use 'user agent' strings to further identify themselves. Your browser's user agent string is: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)" I ran all of these test on IE so I'm not sure why it would say anything about Mozilla. In my Add/Remove programs list there are 2 different versions of Mozilla but last time that happened and I uninstalled the earlier one and then had to reinstall the whole thing. I have McAfee Security Center ... Read more

Hi, im not really "good" with computers so if this dont sound helpful please ask.

But when i enter task manager i have 2 iexplore.exe running, while internet explorer is up 1 of them takes a huge amount of CPU and memory while the other is just normal... i close the high memory process and it instantly reopens and internet explorer doesnt close at all... but if i close the other one both processes disappear.

I did use firefox for awhile and this happened, so i installed it successfully and everything and it started to happen to internet explorer! i have done a norton scan and a malwarebytes anti-malware scan and found nothing.

Is there anyone i can do to sort this out? its annoying and if i have a virus of any description i want it gone!

I installed the software for a cable modem on my computer, it automatically set the computer up to connect through it. The problem is that I no longer use the cable modem on that computer, I uninstalled everything that was associated with @home that I could find, I'm now trying to connect that computer to the internet through a proxy server. What's happened though is that when I go to internet options, connection, LAN settings it's set to use the automatic configuration script. I delete the settings, unselect the radio button and click ok, then close internet explorer. I reopen it and the settings are back to what I deleted. I tried deleting them in the control panel, internet options too but to no avail. I searched the registry for the settings and upgraded to IE6, neither of these things helped either. Any help of how to get rid of these settings would be great.

You can try to resolve this problem by disabling the Add-ons. Even if it does not work then you have to scan your computer for the viruses by using the "Anti Malwarebytes and Superantispyware or HijackThis".

I have internet explorer 5, and when i try to access my hotmail account it says that "( your web brower options, are currently set to disable cookies, to use .NETPASSPORT you must enable cookies)" Can someone please help me out with this problem. "I don't know where to go to enable cookies" !!

A:Internet Explorer Problems

your IE5 internet options security has to be set on medium.

to allow some new cookies that microsoft now requires and you also must have javascript enabled.

In IE 6 you must have your privacy on medium. You can't have it on high regardless of your filter settings unless someone can find the newer server that msn is requiring to be cookied.

MSN has been messing with hotmail, changing some stuff so it's not just your computer.

I am glad you posted cuz I didn't know they changed the login procedure so that I can't have my privacy settings on high and let the proper cookies through.

Best thing to do is use msn messenger to get to your hotmail.

the same requirements to log in are required to view/download hotmail attachments now too.

you can also test to see if your settings are right by going to here

in the hotmail login form type in your email address [email protected] or @msn.com and then your passoword.

If your settings are right, you will be able to log in.

If you question whether or not you are submitting to hotmail or not, just view source of the page and check the form action server addresses.

good luck

Your best bet is to try Compuserv technical support first. Your dialup settings may need adjusted. Be sure you have a firewall like fee Sygate via the colored link below. Already got a firewall? Maybe it's set to restrict IE getting out.

Good Morning...

I have Internet Explorer 8 on my PC. I am running Windows XP SP3. When I go to web sites, the sites always give me an exclamation inside a yellow triangle telling me there are errors. Also whe I go to sites with video, the video will not load. I have tried to upgrade and that did not help. I tried to remove explorer and re-install it, and that did not help.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Rob, I also run XP Pro SP 3 and find Internet Explorer 8 buggy. Be sure your flash player is current. Internet Explorer 7 seems solid. I also use Firefox, good fast browser with Google. In my opinion having two browsers installed is the only way to go in the case one fails. Best of luck...

Hi, since 2-3 days ago my internet explorer has not been working correctly. as of right now i am using firefox. I have the most recent version of IE or at least i think i do. 7.0

well the problem is: when i open IE it just loads and loads. or says its loading but nothing's happening. my homepage is google news and it wont load. so i try google.com and it doesnt work either. I tried emptying out all my temp files, user/pw etc. but after i do that. if i press "okay" the window freezes up is a way to say it i guess. and on the top left corner instead of the "e" i see a little window meaning that the program is disconnected or something. I've encountered the little window picture many times while researching etc. which has caused me some annoyances. but this is the first time my IE doesnt work at all.
It would nice if i could get some help. Im not much of a firefox person. Also i tried system restoring to a point around 3 days before all this happened. and IE worked for a while. but it doesnt work again right now..

Thank you very much
oh and i just rebooted my compter (tc4200) and right before it shut down i got a couple of those error messages. asking if i wanted to report the problem etc...

and now it works again... im really confused at whats happening...

edit2: sorry for so many edits but i forgot to mention that sometimes if i go to a certain link such as to see my cross country race results etc. the window just turns off with all ... Read more

You can undo the system restore. You can then try another system restore point to try to fix whatever the original problem was.

I'm able to connect to the internet. I see it dial up and I see it connecting to AOL. I can get to the initial AOL page. The problem begins when I try to visit other pages. I tried to reinstall Win 98 and when I did that upon installation I got an error message that an application had performed an illegal operation and that application was internet explorer. Try Doyce's advice here for removing the aol adapter. Then restart the computer and it should be automatically recreated. Now try it. Recreating the aol adapter has worked for many with your same type of aol problem.

Here's some more directions for doing it.

1) Log Off AOL. You can't do this while you are online with the service

2) Close America Online.

3) Go to the Start button, select Settings, then Control Panel

4) Find the Network Icon and double click on it to open the Network settings window

5) Scroll through the list of Network adapters until you find the AOL adapter, then click on it ONCE to highlight it

6) Click the REMOVE button to delete the AOL adapter

7) Close the Network window, and any other windows you have open

8) Go to Start, then shutdown the PC

9) Reboot the system and open AOL again from the menu or the AOL icon on your desktop

10) Log back on to America Online. The adapter will "rebuild" itself when you restart AOL

Microsoft's Internet Explorer could inadvertently allow a hacker to read files on a person's computer, another problem for the company just days after a serious vulnerability received an emergency patch. The problem was actually discovered as long as two years ago but has persisted despite two attempts by Microsoft to fix it, said Jorge Luis Alvarez Medina, a security consultant with Core Security Technologies. The issue could allow a hacker to read files on a person's computer but not install other code. Nonetheless, the problem represents a serious security issue, Medina said. It affects all of Microsoft's operating systems from Windows NT through Windows 7 and every version of IE, including the latest one, IE8.Despite the fixes, Medina found ways to pull off the same attack. Since the issue involves features rather than vulnerabilities, it may be more difficult for Microsoft to permanently fix, Medina said. "Some of those features are kind of impossible to fix," Medina said.http://www.arnnet.com.au/article/333782/re...fpid=1976458394
