X220: connecting a bluetooth 4.0 mouse

Q: X220: connecting a bluetooth 4.0 mouse

Hello,I own a stock x220 with an i7.I would like to use the Microsoft Designer Bluetooth mouse. Apparently that mouse uses bluetooth 4.0, which my laptop does not have (2.1 i believe but i am not sure and don't know how to check either). Will I be able to connect and use that mouse? Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: X220: connecting a bluetooth 4.0 mouse

Hello,
According to the X220's hardware maintenance manual, the ThinkPad X220 contains a Bluetooth Daughter Card BDC-2.1, with FRU# (part#) of 60Y3271 or 60Y3275. Searching on those FRU numbers reveals this page on the independent ThinkWiki site which says those cards are Bluetooth 3.0. It also mentions that the part is likely to be swappable with a new Bluetooth 4.0 BDC card.

From looking at the details [age for the Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Mouse, it mentions Bluetooth Smart/Bluetooth 4.0 compatibility and specifically says "Bluetooth 4. enabled devices" in the System Requirements.

It is still possible that the mouse will work with the older Bluetooth 3.0 card, but just consume more power. Or, you may need to replace the Bluetooth Daughter Card inside the X220 or use an external Bluetooth 4.0 USB adapter with it. It would probably be best to check with Microsoft for an authoritative answer.

Hi there,
Im a newbie so hope i post this right.
Ok just for background information
I got a new bluetooth mouse,
Paired it to my laptop, it connected and worked fine. I left the laptop for about 15 minutes oly to come back to the mouse not working. I suspect it had put it self into sleep mode.
So i re-paired the mouse and i got the first BSOD.
I restarted, re connected and it worked fine.
The next day i reconnected again it was fine.. and then another BSOD.
Now whenever i connect it i get a BSOD automatically.
So i can delete the mouse, re find it, add it and BSOD
After restart if the mouse is on BSOD
if off, i turn it on, i get a BSOD.
Iv updated the drivers off the dell site. reinstalled driver, upgraded to SP2,
Last time i tried again, i managed to pair the mouse, but it didnt work.
going to the properties of the mouse, and then services the HID mouse driver was not selected, as soon as i select it i get the BSOD.
I therefore cannot use the mouse
Iv deleted all drivers (bluetooth and mouse) and restarted, iv tried updating. Iv also tried the mouse on a different laptop that is using a generic bluetooth dongle, it workes fine, and even now it can pair automatically to it and jus work, that laptop is XP SP3.

iv attached the TSF thing that i assume contains info on the BSOD.

bthport.sys seems to be causing the most issues. Here's a link to a KB article that describes something similar: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929577

Interestingly, the debugger can't locate symbols for this driver (even though it's a Microsoft driver) - so I wonder about it's compatibility with your system.

Also noted an issue with ctclsflt.sys - a Creative video filter

I ran an analysis of the last 20 minidump files - and all of them point at the bthport.sys driver

I'd suggest checking your system for the appropriate bthport.sys driver by using the above article. If you do not have that version, then I'd suggest getting the hotfix that is mentioned.

Another possibility is that there's an issue with your USB controller. Have a look at this article to see if it may apply (even thought it's slanted towards Microsoft Devices and XP): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315973

Can you try the bluetooth dongle on the other system? This'll help to rule out problems with it.

Hello! I recently bought a Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Mouse. It's pretty good so far, but I've been annoyed by the fact that it's Bluetooth. This might make it handy when connecting to a laptop but that also means that I have to pair the device again every time I use it in another computer.

I am looking for a way to connect the mouse without going to settings then unpairing and pairing again the device. Could all that be done by a shortcut in the desktop (so I could assign it to one of my keyboard's macros)? Or just a faster way to connect again (through some type of utility perhaps).

Android is a good example of this. I put the mouse in pairing mode and the click on the mouse in the Bluetooth settings. No unpairing and pairing again. Really fast as well.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,I bought a Microsoft Designer Mouse and Keyboard combo, and, while the keyboard is nicley connected, the mouse will not.I?m guessing that for some unknown reason ? the Intel Bluetooth chip in the X250 ?decides? to use a ?low-energy Driver? for that mouse ???But it should not be so?.The mouse does indeed ?pair?, but the correct driver does not ?match up? with the mouse ?And so, it does not respond. I tried several versions of the Intel Bluetooth driver ? up to and including the very latest from Intel ?But, still, the mouse will not work. HELP!!!ThanksRon

I have an HP MobileWorkstation Elitebook 8440w with Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit OS and I'm unable to add this mouse as a Bluetooth Device.

I was able to add the device to my old HP Elitebook 8530w with Windows Vista and it worked most of the time, but then it stopped working when the OS was updated to Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. I don't have administrative permission on the 8530w to remove the device to attempt adding it again to see if that helps. Also, I can't change the Bluetooth settings on that machine to rule out that as the problem due to the same lack of permission.

Rather than go back to my administrator to change the settings on the old 8530w and waste time trying to see if the mouse connects with it, I'd rather get my mouse to connect to my current 8440w laptop for which I can change the Bluetooth settings.

I tried to get the sys admins at work to fix this mouse problem, but they couldn't do it with the limited time they had to spare, especially since I have the option of using a USB mouse they provided. The problem is that I spent $50 on this mouse and it worked before the Windows 7 install on the 8530w and never worked on the 8440w.

I've tried everything suggested in other forum threads on this issue:
Turned mouse on using the power switch on the bottom and getting a steady green light
Held down the button on the bottom to make mouse discoverable with flashing red and green light

I ordered my X220 with Bluetooth 3.0 and it is listed in the order sheet. I am now trying to use it for the first time to connect a Bluetooth mouse, but having no success. In fact, I can't find Bluetooth anywhere in the system. There is no Bluetooth in the Control Panel and I can't find it in the Device Manager. I tried installing the 6.4.0.1500 Bluetooth device drivers from the Lenovo website. Apparently it was already installed and it asked if I wanted to do a repair installation. I selected repair installation but at the end it reported "No Bluetooth device was detected. Please make sure that your Bluetooth device is plugged in properly in order to continue". Is it missing from my X220? Is there something to enable in the BIOS (I can't find anything)? Richard BTW, my system is type 4286-CTO according to ThinkVantage Tools and the sticker on the laptop. When I go to Download Drivers & Software on the Lenovo site and use Run Auto-Detect, it displays "ThinkPad X220i (4286-CTO)" (it should be X220 not X220i). If I manually select the system instead of using auto-detect, under X220 I can select 4286 but CTO is not listed.

This is really starting to annoy the hell out of me. I just picked up a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse, the Notebook 5000 mouse to be exact for my home entertainment center.

I have my PC ran to a monitor and a 55 inch Samsung LED LCD TV for watching movies etc. The problem is, the HDMI cord is run threw the wall so the PC is in another room so I cant use the normal mouse on the PC. I bought a bluetooth mouse due to the increased range but I'm having nothing but issues.

I have the Microsoft Bluetooth dongle btw, didn't come with the mouse, the mouse actually comes with no dongle.

Anyway it connects fine but if I stop using it for like an hour or whatever it disconnects and nothing I do will reconnect it unless I take my other mouse, go into bluetooth devices, delete it and readd it all over again.

WHY THE HELL does it keep doing this lol?

It's very annoying, I sit down to watch a movie and discover I cant start it without first going into the other room and readding my mouse.

I'm well within range and I've tried moving the bluetooth mouse to the same room as the PC to use it with the PC and it still does the same thing.

Help?

Hello everyone,

but I get the same error this time code 18, so I uninstall drivers and re-pair the mouse.  No luck, I get the same driver error.  I wonder if it's the mouse that's the problem so I try pairing it to my friends macbook and it works so it's not the

I'm just wondering if there are any differences between the two. I have integrated bluetooth on my laptop, so I won't need a dongle for it. I also know bluetooth is slower than wireless usb, but does this have any effect for a mouse?

In terms of performance and accuracy, are there any advantages or disadvantages to either format? Why are bluetooth mice seemingly much less popular with manufacturers?

Thanks a bunch.

A:Any difference between a wireless usb mouse or a bluetooth mouse?

Here's some advantages and disadvantages

Distance
Bluetooth you can expect 30 feet distance from the EEE. Wireless IR you can expect from 4 to 6 feet.

Easy to setup and configure
You plug Wireless in and it just works. With Bluetooth , you have to use the command line to set things up, and you have to script it or else every time you boot you'll have to give it all the commands.

Ports
The Bluetooth wins this one. The wireless keyboard and mouse use a USB port and do not give you anything else. The Bluetooth adapter uses the same port, but also lets you connect Bluetooth stereo headphones, your mobile phone, etc.

It really depends on what your needs are. If your living room is 12 feet and you want to hook your EEE up to your PC and surf from your lazyboy at the other end of the room, infrared won't do it. If you want the keyboard in front of the standard EEE screen and just want a better one, then the wireless IR is fine.

Hi, all.
I have a desktop and a Compaq laptop both using Windows XP Pro SP3. I would like to connect them both using Bluetooth so I can transfer files between them. I don't care about sharing the internet connection. I hoped to buy an Ethernet crossover cable but I couldn't find any, and I've been using a USB stick to very, very slowly transfer files across.
I turned discovery on on both the PCs and used both to try and find the other to "add a device", and they do; and also turned "allow Bluetooth devices to connect" on, as well, but they are unable to connect for whatever reason. I tried using a custom key and letting it choose one for me but neither worked. As clever as Microsoft is it doesn't tell me what the actual problem is. All it says is there isn't any more information about it. I also don't want to not use a passkey.
Again I don't need to share the internet connection, merely transfer files between them. I also tried with a small test file and it saw the other PC but then chose to fail. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I have a pair of August MS515 connected which work only intermittently and which seem to require me to restart me machine several times before they will finally work. I've uninstalled several times, basically done everything I can. Flok980 welcome to SF,
You must go to BT devices and set it up to look for devices while putting the headphones in visible mode.

hello all.

Ive been having trouble with my bluetooth connection. Whenever i attempt to double click my phone icon in the devices menu to view its bluetooth connection options, i get a message saying:

"an error occurred when initializing this operation. Try restarting your computer and/or the Bluetooth device. "

so, what i see so far:

-the phone successfully pairs with my computer
-each device can see each other

but they cannot interact.

the phone however will connect and interact with other bluetooth devices.

ive double checked many times, my drivers are all there and up to date.
(also used driver genius to check this)

also, whenever i start my computer, i always get the message: "ERROR: unable to start bluetooth stack service"

any ideas what's going on here?

thanks.

my system specs:

dell studio 1555
windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, build 7600

phone: verizon samsung intensity

Sounds like an error with the bluetooth stack and or drivers... check Dells website for the latest versions.

I have a Sony MDR-10RBT bluetooth headset that used to work with my HP ZBook 15 G2 laptop. I'm not sure what happened, but it no longer works.I can pair the headset, and it shows up in the Devices and Printers window. However, when I double click on the headset's icon and get the window where I can click on Listen to Music or Forward VoIP Calls to Handsfree, they are both greyed out. If I look in services:Bluetooth Media Service: not started, automaticBluetooth OBEX Service: not started, automaticBluetooth Support Service: started, manual If I try starting Bluetooth Media Service, I get an Error 1053. I have updated the Intel Bluetooth Driver for 7260/3610 WLAN (American, International) to 17.1.1504.518 Rev.A29 Jun 2015. I'm not sure what that replaces, since when I look in the Device Manager, under Intel Wireless Bluetooth 4.0 Adapter, it still says 17.0.1401.422. Any suggestions of where to look next would be appreciated.

I love my Sony DR-BT101 bluetooth headset. It would connect fine with my PC and worked beautifully. Unexpectedly, it suddenly stopped connecting and every time I tried to pair nothing would happen. I've been able to add the device, so the PC recognizes it. However, it won't connect with the PC and the device does not show up as an option in the playback tab in the sounds menu.

So, I tried following this link:

http://windows7forums.com/windows-7-networking/24580-make-your-bluetooth-devices-work-windows-7-a.html

Still nothing. I'm not even sure what the Mobile Device Center is meant to do as the headset is not a mobile device like a handheld. It said I should see an 'Unknown Device' named 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device' - which never was listed.

My headset is not on low battery, and has never had connection issues in the past, or even problems with playback. I haven't messed with any of the PC's services or changed anything on my adapter.

If someone could help me out that would be great, or share similar attempts to solve this problem.

Hi, I recently got this new WLAN Bluetooth Combo Adapter so that I could have the option to use bluetooth devices with my laptop. I'd connect my Sony MDR-XB950BT bluetooth headset and use it to talk to friends on Skype. When I look in my sound devices, there are normally two devices my headset connects with: "Headphones" and "Headset". The headset option is what lets me use my mic. However, now "Headset" displays as "Disconnected" and right-clicking then pressing "Connect" doesn't help. When I unpair then re-pair the device, it takes forever to download it's drivers, then I see that there is no "Headset" option in my sound devices at all! It reappears upon restart, but again as "Disconnected". Also, now when I connect my headphones, the "Headphones" option also displays as "Disconnected", but unlike the "Headset" option I am able to right-click and press connect and it will then connect. All my drivers are up-to-date and when searching for my new WLAN Bluetooth adapter I was told by an HP expert (who was a great help by the way) that this one was indeed compatible with my laptop model. It worked at first, but now I'm having these issues. There is no answer anywhere online that works for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

hey

I've been having a lot of problems trying to use bluetooth on this computer. I use an HP Pavillion DV6000 and I haven't been able to use bluetooth since I got it. I have a motorola v3 and i've had the same phone for awhile, with my last laptop I had no problems connecting to it and sharing files, but there seems to be a problem with this laptop, because the cellphone works fine with another devices but i just cant connect to the laptop. Under bluetooth devices whenever i click on allow this computer to be disvoreableI get an error message saying "an error occurred while Windows was saving your settings. The Bluetooth device might be unplugged. The following settings were not saved: Discoverability settings / Connection settings." I don't really know what to do, i went online looking for answers but there isn't really any.

Hi there, I'm having problems connecting to my bluetooth headphones.  My computer will pair with them and connect the first time no problem, but afterwards it won't recognize that it's available to Connect (it won't connect automatically and it won't show a "Connect" button).  The only way to get it to work is to Remove Device, adn re-pair it, which is very annoying. Any help would be appreciated! I've tried re-intalling the drivers with no luck, and checking for Windows updates but I'm all up to date. I have an Aspire TC-603 desktop. Thanks!
