I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there I hope someone can help me with this problem. I bought my IdeaPad S205 10 months ago and it has worked like a dream, until the last few weeks when it will intermittently and unexpectedly completely shuts down instantly and with no warning. This happens both when the battery is full and when plugged in. I think it has happened more often when I have physically moved the netbook, but I have not been moving it much at all, just shifting its position on the desk. It is very frustrating as I lose my work and have to reboot completely every time. Any ideas on why this could be happening and what I can do to remedy it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Alice

My lenovo Ideapad Y400 has been overheating and shutting down during gaming. The first time this happened when I turned it back on Windows had to do an update (windows 10) I'm pretty sure this was just a coincidence though. This only happens when I'm gaming though and I can usually get it to last longer if I turn the settings to low. I replaced the thermal paste and it actually solved the problem for about 2 weeks without a shutdown and everything worked fine. Before it was shutting off 2-20 minutes into gaming. Just recently it started shutting off again so I decided to make this post.  Here's what I know:My temps run mostly around 40c when idle and 60c when gaming. Most of the time the computer doesn't even feel warm when if happens. My fan speed never really speeds up before it shuts off (or ever actually) even when the computer feels hot the fan sticks to its regular speed. Some people have suggested replacing the thermal pad on the VRAM. Not sure if a thermal pad is the same thing as thermal paste but I'm pretty sure the VRAM wasn't one of the tings I replaced the paste on.I replaced the thermal paste on everything that came with thermal paste (I forget exactly which parts these were but I could find out if it's relevant). There is no way to increase the fan speed on Lenovo's Ideapad models (short of hitting the dust removal feature every 5 seconds). And It wouldn't matter because people who have physically modded their fans and added new ones say it ma... Read more

Bought this notebook with Windows 8.1 preinstalled. Upgraded to Windows 10.Problem is that the notebook is shutting down by itself with no known reason, often when browsing some webpages. It looks like hard shut down, when you hold power button for several seconds and mashine is shutting down, symptoms are the same. Then mashine starting again as usual with no error message and no restored sessions.Tryed to initialize all notebook. Then few days was working "clean mashine" on Win 8.1 again. After upgrade to Win 10, it shutting down again. There is no rules when it can shut down. It can happen after a month or after a few days, so it's not possible to say that problem cause is a Win 10 upgrade. Sure that not overheating problem. Ran a several Lenovo Diagnotics tools and all is "green".

I just bought Lenovo Ideapad 710s last week, 5th June 2016 to be exact.I noticed that after I shut down the laptop, eventhough the screen is off, the USB-wired mouse is still lited. There's no light on the keyboards, nor the power signal light. What could be the problem here?

My laptop is unexpectedly turning off when it reaches around 50% battery, but the actual level can be anywhere between 40% and 60%. It never turns off when plugged in. Whenever it does shut off, I have to plug it in before it turns back on. I thought maybe something was wrong with the way the laptop was reading the battery, so I updated the BIOS. Right after updating, the computer reached 20% without turning off so I thought the problem was fixed. But the next time I used it, it shut down at 40% again.I know its not a heat issue because it happens whenever the laptop isn't plugged in. I thought maybe my laptop is reading the battery wrong but I don't know how to fix it. I've already completely reinstalled Windows. Some people suggested manually calibrating the battery by fully charging, discharging, and then charging it again. I can't do this because the computer shuts down before it gets to 0% battery.

Hi everyone! I purchased a 520-15IKB roughly a month ago. I've been really satisfied with it so far but for some reason it does not restart. I've tried using the CMD commands to restart and obviously the restart option from the start menu but it shuts down instead of restarting. This has resulted in the "restart to complete update" notifications not going away. It's been this way out of the box. It also keeps freezing while gaming and the only way to recover it was to force a shutdown by long-pressing the power key. Are any of these known issues? Any fixes?

Maybe try using OneKey Recovery to restore device to the factory state (it will remove all your files).

Hello, i received a Lenovo Ideapad 305 computer on 9th of March 2017. Immediately after that day, computer showed signs of weird behaviour. It shut down instead of going to Sleep Mode when attempting to use that command. I swear i checked out the battery settings and it seems that computer shuts down even when manually choosing sleep mode. Last night i also came across a problem when computer restarted instead of shutting down. I tried installing all the possible updates, but it didn't fix the issue. At the very beginning Sleep Mode actually worked fine but something must have corrupted it. Power Troubleshooting didn't provide any results. The big programs i have installed are Comodo Antivirus, Sony Vegas and Adobe Photoshop. I have removed some of Lenovo's own installed minor software because i found them useless. There are still some updates that Windows wants to install but i'm being skeptical if they will fix the issue. Information:Windows 10 HomeIntel Core i7-5500 U CPU @ 2.40 GHZRAM: 8,00 Gb

But im still new to this process so im wondering if using Lenovo's Onekey recovery is a good thing but then i saw the Reset this PC feature of windows is another thing. My question is, what would be the more recommended thing i should do to get my laptop to its original state just like the new windows 10, or are there any difference within those  two?PS: I got my back up files all set from this laptop to my external hd already Thank you!

Hi

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)

My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.

I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)

I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."

What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?
Via Settings: settings > Recovery > Reset this PC > Remove everything, or
settings > Recovery > advanced startup > Reinstall from USB

 Hi larrens ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.

But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).

Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.

WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.
Click on underlined links for further review.

Hope this answered your query.

Running XP on a P4/512/80gig system.

Problem started with cd burner not writing through windows media player.
I installed fireman and everything seemed okay.

PC then starts rebooting itself at random.

The past week it either won't boot up at all(it powers on but all the lights just flicker in a steady pattern while the screen remains blank) or it boots to the point right before the desktop loads then goes into the flicker mode.

By holding down f2 or esc I can usually get the flicker to stop. The pc then tries to reboot again or just shuts off competely.

I'm trying to do a xp repair this morning by booting off the cd.
It will get down to 36 min to go and then goes into the flicker mode.
I've tried several times and it shuts down each time.

I'm not sure at this point whether it's a software or hardware issue.
I was able to check the device manager a few days ago(when it would stay on long enough)and everything appeares fine.
Hijack this, spyware, and virus checks all came out fine.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated....I'm at a complete loss.
Thanks, zand

When i press the on/off button on my CPU, my computer shuts down as if i had shut down my computer properly. It saves my settings and everything instead of just turning off.

I got an error message a couple of times and everything kinda locked up, though i could still move the little arrow icon around.

Because of this, i was forced to press the off button and it has seemed to shut down every single time i've did it.

I was wondering if this is considered a proper shut down. Does doing this in anyway effect my computer?

Could any damage be done?

Hi there,

I've been searching about the site but can't find anything that relates to the problem that I've been having. I hope that someone can help as I'm sure that it's a pretty simple thing to correct!

For the past few days if I leave my pc for about 15 minutes it just turns off as if it has gone into some kind of standby. I have to turn the monitor back on and wiggle the mouse and it starts back up with the screen exactly as it was before it went off. It isn't the same as going into standby as when i do that I have to use my user password to get back in. I don't have a screensaver at the moment but it kinda reminds me of one.

I hope that this makes some sort of sense.

I have Windows XP.

Many Thanks

A:XP not shutting down

If XP encounters a serious error on shutdown, it restarts. Usually its a driver incompatability or similar.

To find out you need to disable Automatic restarts so you get a Blue Screen error, then write down theexact error and post it back here. You then need to hold the power button in for 5 seconds to power down.

To turn of Auto restarts:
Control Panel-System-Advanced-Startup and Recovery-Settings button-untick "Automatically restart..."

Hi chrimbo
I believe world of warcraft is a very demanding game, and your friends pc is well above what they say is needed to run it.What they dont tell you is that unless you have a very powerfully setup you will only be able to run the game with the setting turned down to at least midway. This is the usual cause of the crash you are describing.
start you settings at low and slowly work up to were you dont crash.
Good luck

I have a Dell computer and I recently installed a wireless Router. After it finished installing my windows starting shutting down and booting back up and it does this continously. Wireless router works fine but computer does not....please help

A:Shutting Down

Check your Power Options in Control Panel.

You forgot to state if your DELL is a desktop PC or laptop.

If it's a desktop, ALL Power Options should be set to NEVER, and Hibernation disabled (UNCHECKED). One possible exception is the Monitor Power Option, you can decide to turn your monitor off after a set period.

FOR DESKTOP PC: In Device Manager, under Network adapters, right-click your wireless card, select Properties, and see if there is a Power Management tab. UNCHECK the box so the card cannot shut-down your system.

FOR LAPTOPS: They usually have their own Power Management icon in Control Panel to set options.

I do not have a heat problem , nor PSU problem. When I am on the computer, whether it is 20 mins or 4 hours, no problems, but when I am done using it, and nothing is being used, it will just shutdown. I have no clue as to what is causing it. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you running the Release Candidate of Windows 7? If so, as part of the expiration process, your computer will continue to shutdown until your purchase a full version of Windows 7 or reinstall your previous OS: It's time to upgrade from the Windows 7 Release Candidate.

A:Z50 shutting down

Hi there, Stovies          -

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Could you explain a bit more? Does it immediately shut off, or after it has been running a while?  Does it shut of on AC or when on battery? Will the unit run on battery only?

Update us how it goes.

Just noticed tonite, I recently changed to a clean image of XP after the last one got a tad clogged up with junk, seems to be only on techspot that it does it,

I can be clicking a link to a new thread, or submitting a post and IE will just close but when it does it takes all the open IE pages, regardless of which site they are showing, I can browse MSN, Bitsoup, Ebay and the like with no problems at all, but as soon as I start clicking around in Techspot, bang the pages are gone, in fact I was downloading the new IE7 as a fix and the download box closed out at the same time as IE crashed.

Is it something in techspot's code that's doing it, or something in this new clean install, I did think it may be the OS, as I had added a few programs after the install, so to be sure I reghosted back to the clean image, but still have the same problems....

And no upgrading to IE 7 didnt fix it,

Regards

Yep I just submitted this post and it happened again. im off to post on another site I use and see if it happens there....
