I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there I hope someone can help me with this problem. I bought my IdeaPad S205 10 months ago and it has worked like a dream, until the last few weeks when it will intermittently and unexpectedly completely shuts down instantly and with no warning. This happens both when the battery is full and when plugged in. I think it has happened more often when I have physically moved the netbook, but I have not been moving it much at all, just shifting its position on the desk. It is very frustrating as I lose my work and have to reboot completely every time. Any ideas on why this could be happening and what I can do to remedy it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Alice

Hi Alice, is it crashing with a blue screen or instantly going black (like crashing)? Greets, stahlnase

Bought this notebook with Windows 8.1 preinstalled. Upgraded to Windows 10.Problem is that the notebook is shutting down by itself with no known reason, often when browsing some webpages. It looks like hard shut down, when you hold power button for several seconds and mashine is shutting down, symptoms are the same. Then mashine starting again as usual with no error message and no restored sessions.Tryed to initialize all notebook. Then few days was working "clean mashine" on Win 8.1 again. After upgrade to Win 10, it shutting down again. There is no rules when it can shut down. It can happen after a month or after a few days, so it's not possible to say that problem cause is a Win 10 upgrade. Sure that not overheating problem. Ran a several Lenovo Diagnotics tools and all is "green".

My lenovo Ideapad Y400 has been overheating and shutting down during gaming. The first time this happened when I turned it back on Windows had to do an update (windows 10) I'm pretty sure this was just a coincidence though. This only happens when I'm gaming though and I can usually get it to last longer if I turn the settings to low. I replaced the thermal paste and it actually solved the problem for about 2 weeks without a shutdown and everything worked fine. Before it was shutting off 2-20 minutes into gaming. Just recently it started shutting off again so I decided to make this post.  Here's what I know:My temps run mostly around 40c when idle and 60c when gaming. Most of the time the computer doesn't even feel warm when if happens. My fan speed never really speeds up before it shuts off (or ever actually) even when the computer feels hot the fan sticks to its regular speed. Some people have suggested replacing the thermal pad on the VRAM. Not sure if a thermal pad is the same thing as thermal paste but I'm pretty sure the VRAM wasn't one of the tings I replaced the paste on.I replaced the thermal paste on everything that came with thermal paste (I forget exactly which parts these were but I could find out if it's relevant). There is no way to increase the fan speed on Lenovo's Ideapad models (short of hitting the dust removal feature every 5 seconds). And It wouldn't matter because people who have physically modded their fans and added new ones say it ma... Read more

I just bought Lenovo Ideapad 710s last week, 5th June 2016 to be exact.I noticed that after I shut down the laptop, eventhough the screen is off, the USB-wired mouse is still lited. There's no light on the keyboards, nor the power signal light. What could be the problem here?

Hi everyone! I purchased a 520-15IKB roughly a month ago. I've been really satisfied with it so far but for some reason it does not restart. I've tried using the CMD commands to restart and obviously the restart option from the start menu but it shuts down instead of restarting. This has resulted in the "restart to complete update" notifications not going away. It's been this way out of the box. It also keeps freezing while gaming and the only way to recover it was to force a shutdown by long-pressing the power key. Are any of these known issues? Any fixes?

Maybe try using OneKey Recovery to restore device to the factory state (it will remove all your files).

Hello, i received a Lenovo Ideapad 305 computer on 9th of March 2017. Immediately after that day, computer showed signs of weird behaviour. It shut down instead of going to Sleep Mode when attempting to use that command. I swear i checked out the battery settings and it seems that computer shuts down even when manually choosing sleep mode. Last night i also came across a problem when computer restarted instead of shutting down. I tried installing all the possible updates, but it didn't fix the issue. At the very beginning Sleep Mode actually worked fine but something must have corrupted it. Power Troubleshooting didn't provide any results. The big programs i have installed are Comodo Antivirus, Sony Vegas and Adobe Photoshop. I have removed some of Lenovo's own installed minor software because i found them useless. There are still some updates that Windows wants to install but i'm being skeptical if they will fix the issue. Information:Windows 10 HomeIntel Core i7-5500 U CPU @ 2.40 GHZRAM: 8,00 Gb

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo Ideapad IdeaPad 100 14ibd - win10 and basically im planning on formatting my laptop to get rid of all the stuff/unknown files that are terribly slowing down my ram. But im still new to this process so im wondering if using Lenovo's Onekey recovery is a good thing but then i saw the Reset this PC feature of windows is another thing. My question is, what would be the more recommended thing i should do to get my laptop to its original state just like the new windows 10, or are there any difference within those  two?PS: I got my back up files all set from this laptop to my external hd already Thank you!

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)
My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.
I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)
I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."
What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?

A:Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

 Hi larrens ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.
But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).
Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.
WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.

I was using my laptop when it suddenly shut down for what I could see to be no reason. It was plugged into the mains and operating perfectly. I tried turning it back on but it just flashed a couple lights made a little noise and turned straight off again. This repeated several times. Then it started up, operating perfectly, I ran a AVG to check for any viruses and it completed the scan saying all clear. The laptop continued to work for a couple hours, then shut down. It is once again not booting up. I need some way of booting it up and stopping it from doing this again... What can I do?

Hi stupid question problem xp not shutting down i first goto start then turn off computer screen pops up with stand by turn off or restart i click either restart or turn off hard disk light flashes a lot but thats all recently added to pc was divx and K-Lite_Codec_Pack_710_Standard was trying to create dpg files for my ds

any help would be good thank you

A:xp pro not shutting down

I don't think " divx and K-Lite_Codec_Pack_710_Standard" would cause a shut down failure.

Try this for shutdown;
%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0
(Create a shortcut with the above "Target", or type it into " Start, Run".)

If that works, you have a corrupted ShutDown link.

EDIT: Here's the Restart command structure;
%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -r -t 0

My pc will shut off suddenly. A few days ago I had received an email with a .rar attachment of a chart of pictures of colors. My AV said it was safe so I opened and saved to my harddrive. When I opened it from there my pc immediately shut off. I have to unplug it and replug before it will start again each time it shuts off. I ran AV scan and it shows okay. I ran malwarebyte it says okay. Superantispyware says okay. I can't run any scans online, it will shut off. I ran ckdsk and it showed several things wrong and corrected them. I can't run sfc /scannow from cd or from my I386 folder, it will shut off. It will shut off if I try to run MEMTEST86 or hdd tests. I can surf okay and now open the picture file okay. I checked my cpu temp in bios the next day and it had jumped from my normal 112 -118 F. to 158 - 160 F. I took the side panel off and carefully cleaned everything and installed a new case fan (it never had one) and the temp goes up to 135F now. It is from 70F. to 80F. room temp where the pc is. I can put my finger on the cooling fins mounted on the cpu (I don't touch anything else for fear of static and I hold the case frame when I do this) and it is always cool. My PSU fan works and it is just warm at times. I changed the power connection cable. I went to update video drivers, it shuts off. Anything else to update, it shuts off. A:shutting down

Is this a laptop or a desktop? A computer shutting down, is caused by overheating or a failing Power Supply Unit (desktop) Blow out all fans with a can of compressed air. If a desktop, take the side off the computer, and remove all dust, and take a look at the PSU Label and report the Make, Model # and Wattage. Restart the computer and make sure all fans are spinning. You can also try doing a Clean Boot

I have an older AMD 1Ghz PC that has been shutting itself off at certain times. It does this when I try running anything that has sound to it. It will play the music or other sound for about a minute or so and then shut itself off. It also did the same thing after I installed a USB printer. It would print about half a page or so and then power off. It doesn't shut off when I run something with sound and have it muted. I first thought my sound card was bad so I replaced it (before I had ever installed the printer). Replacing the Sound card of course was no help. Also, it doesn't shut down as if I did a normal shutdown. It turns itself off and the only way I can restart is by turning the switch on the power supply off and then back on. I am running Windows ME. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this may be happening? Any help is greatly appreaciated.

When i press the on/off button on my CPU, my computer shuts down as if i had shut down my computer properly. It saves my settings and everything instead of just turning off.

I got an error message a couple of times and everything kinda locked up, though i could still move the little arrow icon around.

Because of this, i was forced to press the off button and it has seemed to shut down every single time i've did it.

I was wondering if this is considered a proper shut down. Does doing this in anyway effect my computer?

Could any damage be done?

Hello and welcome,

It is probably a driver issue, to stop the system restarting, do the following.

1.Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2.Click the Advanced tab.

3.Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

4.Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

5.Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Then try and burn the disc again, it should show an error message which we should be able to help with.

Hope this helps

But these past few days my msn messenger hasn't been opening up. It's on here as in installed and everything the little icon just won't come up in the task bar and when I try to double click the icon in the start menu or on my desktop it just won't open. When I restart my computer or just start it up anyway its there in the task bar and it logs in but about 30 seconds after it just automatically closes down and I then can't open it up again. It's really starting to annoy me as well.
I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it too and it still won't work. I tried downloading 8.0 but it said there is a newer version on my computer which I already removed but it still says its on here..
And I've read upon the net that you should turn off the router for 30 seconds and turn it back on again but make sure msnmsg.exe is ended from the task manager.. I've done all that and it STILL doesn't work!
Someone please help me??

Whenever I open up a folder that I created to keep .avi or mpeg files I am working with, I get the message: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must shut down..." then asks if I want to send an error report, etc. The error details are as follows:
AppName: Explorer.exe
AppVer: 6.0.2800.1221
ModName: vmpeg2enc.dll
Offset: 00036d22

How do I go about correcting this, if it's even possible?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try repair tool (add/remove programs>remove IE)
Try housecall here: http://housecall.trendmicro.com
Try ad-aware here: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
Try SpyBot here: http://security.kolla.de
Most Importantly go to windows update and download any service packs for IE

If all of the above doesn't fix the problem post your hijackthis log (http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt ) here.

A:xp shutting down

Umm, that happens when I windows process (which should always be running) is terminated. It was either u (through taskmanager) or a virus which killed this program. Scan your comp with housecall here, http://housecall.trendmicro.com if it finds a virus, use trend micro's website 2 find instructions on how 2 remove it.
