I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there I hope someone can help me with this problem. I bought my IdeaPad S205 10 months ago and it has worked like a dream, until the last few weeks when it will intermittently and unexpectedly completely shuts down instantly and with no warning. This happens both when the battery is full and when plugged in. I think it has happened more often when I have physically moved the netbook, but I have not been moving it much at all, just shifting its position on the desk. It is very frustrating as I lose my work and have to reboot completely every time. Any ideas on why this could be happening and what I can do to remedy it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Alice

Bought this notebook with Windows 8.1 preinstalled. Upgraded to Windows 10.Problem is that the notebook is shutting down by itself with no known reason, often when browsing some webpages. It looks like hard shut down, when you hold power button for several seconds and mashine is shutting down, symptoms are the same. Then mashine starting again as usual with no error message and no restored sessions.Tryed to initialize all notebook. Then few days was working "clean mashine" on Win 8.1 again. After upgrade to Win 10, it shutting down again. There is no rules when it can shut down. It can happen after a month or after a few days, so it's not possible to say that problem cause is a Win 10 upgrade. Sure that not overheating problem. Ran a several Lenovo Diagnotics tools and all is "green".

My lenovo Ideapad Y400 has been overheating and shutting down during gaming. The first time this happened when I turned it back on Windows had to do an update (windows 10) I'm pretty sure this was just a coincidence though. This only happens when I'm gaming though and I can usually get it to last longer if I turn the settings to low. I replaced the thermal paste and it actually solved the problem for about 2 weeks without a shutdown and everything worked fine. Before it was shutting off 2-20 minutes into gaming. Just recently it started shutting off again so I decided to make this post.  Here's what I know:My temps run mostly around 40c when idle and 60c when gaming. Most of the time the computer doesn't even feel warm when if happens. My fan speed never really speeds up before it shuts off (or ever actually) even when the computer feels hot the fan sticks to its regular speed. Some people have suggested replacing the thermal pad on the VRAM. Not sure if a thermal pad is the same thing as thermal paste but I'm pretty sure the VRAM wasn't one of the tings I replaced the paste on.I replaced the thermal paste on everything that came with thermal paste (I forget exactly which parts these were but I could find out if it's relevant). There is no way to increase the fan speed on Lenovo's Ideapad models (short of hitting the dust removal feature every 5 seconds). And It wouldn't matter because people who have physically modded their fans and added new ones say it ma... Read more

I just bought Lenovo Ideapad 710s last week, 5th June 2016 to be exact.I noticed that after I shut down the laptop, eventhough the screen is off, the USB-wired mouse is still lited. There's no light on the keyboards, nor the power signal light. What could be the problem here?

My laptop is unexpectedly turning off when it reaches around 50% battery, but the actual level can be anywhere between 40% and 60%. It never turns off when plugged in. Whenever it does shut off, I have to plug it in before it turns back on. I thought maybe something was wrong with the way the laptop was reading the battery, so I updated the BIOS. Right after updating, the computer reached 20% without turning off so I thought the problem was fixed. But the next time I used it, it shut down at 40% again.I know its not a heat issue because it happens whenever the laptop isn't plugged in. I thought maybe my laptop is reading the battery wrong but I don't know how to fix it. I've already completely reinstalled Windows. Some people suggested manually calibrating the battery by fully charging, discharging, and then charging it again. I can't do this because the computer shuts down before it gets to 0% battery.

Hi everyone! I purchased a 520-15IKB roughly a month ago. I've been really satisfied with it so far but for some reason it does not restart. I've tried using the CMD commands to restart and obviously the restart option from the start menu but it shuts down instead of restarting. This has resulted in the "restart to complete update" notifications not going away. It's been this way out of the box. It also keeps freezing while gaming and the only way to recover it was to force a shutdown by long-pressing the power key. Are any of these known issues? Any fixes?

Maybe try using OneKey Recovery to restore device to the factory state (it will remove all your files).

Hello, i received a Lenovo Ideapad 305 computer on 9th of March 2017. Immediately after that day, computer showed signs of weird behaviour. It shut down instead of going to Sleep Mode when attempting to use that command. I swear i checked out the battery settings and it seems that computer shuts down even when manually choosing sleep mode. Last night i also came across a problem when computer restarted instead of shutting down. I tried installing all the possible updates, but it didn't fix the issue. At the very beginning Sleep Mode actually worked fine but something must have corrupted it. Power Troubleshooting didn't provide any results. The big programs i have installed are Comodo Antivirus, Sony Vegas and Adobe Photoshop. I have removed some of Lenovo's own installed minor software because i found them useless. There are still some updates that Windows wants to install but i'm being skeptical if they will fix the issue. Information:Windows 10 HomeIntel Core i7-5500 U CPU @ 2.40 GHZRAM: 8,00 Gb

Hi

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)

My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.

I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)

I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."

What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?

settings > Recovery > advanced startup > Reinstall from USB

A:Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

 Hi larrens ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.

But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).

Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.

WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.
Click on underlined links for further review.

Hope this answered your query.

Hello,

I have a curious problem which I would like some help with please. In order to make this a bit less complicated as I tend to waffle on, here's a list of details that I have:

- Windows XP machine.
- Connected to Wanadoo Broadband (United Kingdom)
- Attempting to view sites such as Youtube.com as well as more static sites.
- PC carries out a complete shut down when it reaches these sites, leading to reboot being required.
- Broadband activity is reported to be slower than normal, with many sites struggling to load at expected rate.
- PC is running Adaware and Macafee as joint protection.
- I have run Macafee virus check and six critical items were found and those items were deleted successfully.
- Adaware also found items which it has removed.
- When scanning however it appears that Macafee has not run a complete scan which leads to reboot also.

Please advise me as to what on earth could be happening here?

Many thanks,

Paul

This is probably my first time posting, but I want to say thanks for all the info you all have on here, it's helped me a lot in the past.

Okay, I built my computer a year ago. I think it was a virus that killed my hard drive earlier this week. I noticed my PC was acting very slowly and then when shut off a random times. It began to shut off more frequently and then would not boot up at all. I installed the drive into another PC and ran some recovery software. At first I could see all the files, but the recovery software was taking a while to finish scanning the drive, so I left it on over night and during my work day the following day, total of about 18 hours running. When I got off work, it seemed to have locked up so I rebooted the PC. My hard drive was no longer functioning, just making a constant clicking sound. Windows, nor the recovery software could locate the drive.

Today I just bought a new hard drive. I finished installing Windows XP Pro and all my drivers and important software such as photo editing, Nero, Norton Firewall. As I was setting up the firewall, my pc suddenly shut off. I do not have broadband, so my PC has not been online yet. I rebooted and could only use it for a few minutes and then it shuts off again. I cleared the CMOS on the motherboard and reset all the settings. That did not help, it is still shutting off.

Is it possible the virus stayed on my motherboard and now transferred to this new hard drive? Anyone have some suggestions on what I ... Read more

Every two minutes or so, the mute button on the TV program gets switched on... even if I'm doing absolutely nothing on the computer!! The hourglass comes up for about 1 second, and it goes silent. Clicking on the mute button brings it back, but it goes silent again a minute later.
The Windows volume program is NOT muted. All other sound comes through fine... just not the TV board!
No matter how long I leave it, it won't toggle the sound back ON by itself.
Certain things cause the muting as well.. like opening or closing the CD-ROM drive.
Any ideas??

You have something hanging the computer up at shutdown, whether it's a program, a corrupted file, a sound or whatever.

Go to start/run/msconfig and see what programs are running.

Had you installed anything new just before this problem started?

The HP Component Manager (hpcmpmgr.exe) is not a program/driver/utility necessary for your HP devices to run. It is the program that communicates with HP Servers and checks for updates.

The problem you described is well known and HP has issued a patch:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...reg_R1002_USEN

Alternatively, you can disable it in msconfig so it doesn't load on every boot, or even remove it entirely if you don't need it.

I have a pentium 4 3.2 w/ 1g ram, asus p4c800e mobo. My pc will just shut itself off some times for no apparent reason. I pulled the connectors from my had drives to my mobo and reconnected them and that helped for a while but it still happens sometimes and I dont know why. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Look for PME (Power Management Event) in the Power section of your BIOS and make sure it is not set to Wake the Computer.
Setting the BIOS to the Default level should turn all the Wake the Computer Events off, then see if the problem is solved.

Hello and welcome,

It is probably a driver issue, to stop the system restarting, do the following.

1.Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2.Click the Advanced tab.

3.Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

4.Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

5.Restart your computer for the settings to take effect.

Then try and burn the disc again, it should show an error message which we should be able to help with.

Hope this helps
