I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi there I hope someone can help me with this problem. I bought my IdeaPad S205 10 months ago and it has worked like a dream, until the last few weeks when it will intermittently and unexpectedly completely shuts down instantly and with no warning. This happens both when the battery is full and when plugged in. I think it has happened more often when I have physically moved the netbook, but I have not been moving it much at all, just shifting its position on the desk. It is very frustrating as I lose my work and have to reboot completely every time. Any ideas on why this could be happening and what I can do to remedy it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Alice

Hi Alice, is it crashing with a blue screen or instantly going black (like crashing)? Greets, stahlnase

My lenovo Ideapad Y400 has been overheating and shutting down during gaming. The first time this happened when I turned it back on Windows had to do an update (windows 10) I'm pretty sure this was just a coincidence though. This only happens when I'm gaming though and I can usually get it to last longer if I turn the settings to low. I replaced the thermal paste and it actually solved the problem for about 2 weeks without a shutdown and everything worked fine. Before it was shutting off 2-20 minutes into gaming. Just recently it started shutting off again so I decided to make this post.  Here's what I know:My temps run mostly around 40c when idle and 60c when gaming. Most of the time the computer doesn't even feel warm when if happens. My fan speed never really speeds up before it shuts off (or ever actually) even when the computer feels hot the fan sticks to its regular speed. Some people have suggested replacing the thermal pad on the VRAM. Not sure if a thermal pad is the same thing as thermal paste but I'm pretty sure the VRAM wasn't one of the tings I replaced the paste on.I replaced the thermal paste on everything that came with thermal paste (I forget exactly which parts these were but I could find out if it's relevant). There is no way to increase the fan speed on Lenovo's Ideapad models (short of hitting the dust removal feature every 5 seconds). And It wouldn't matter because people who have physically modded their fans and added new ones say it ma... Read more

Bought this notebook with Windows 8.1 preinstalled. Upgraded to Windows 10.Problem is that the notebook is shutting down by itself with no known reason, often when browsing some webpages. It looks like hard shut down, when you hold power button for several seconds and mashine is shutting down, symptoms are the same. Then mashine starting again as usual with no error message and no restored sessions.Tryed to initialize all notebook. Then few days was working "clean mashine" on Win 8.1 again. After upgrade to Win 10, it shutting down again. There is no rules when it can shut down. It can happen after a month or after a few days, so it's not possible to say that problem cause is a Win 10 upgrade. Sure that not overheating problem. Ran a several Lenovo Diagnotics tools and all is "green".

I just bought Lenovo Ideapad 710s last week, 5th June 2016 to be exact.I noticed that after I shut down the laptop, eventhough the screen is off, the USB-wired mouse is still lited. There's no light on the keyboards, nor the power signal light. What could be the problem here?

My laptop is unexpectedly turning off when it reaches around 50% battery, but the actual level can be anywhere between 40% and 60%. It never turns off when plugged in. Whenever it does shut off, I have to plug it in before it turns back on. I thought maybe something was wrong with the way the laptop was reading the battery, so I updated the BIOS. Right after updating, the computer reached 20% without turning off so I thought the problem was fixed. But the next time I used it, it shut down at 40% again.I know its not a heat issue because it happens whenever the laptop isn't plugged in. I thought maybe my laptop is reading the battery wrong but I don't know how to fix it. I've already completely reinstalled Windows. Some people suggested manually calibrating the battery by fully charging, discharging, and then charging it again. I can't do this because the computer shuts down before it gets to 0% battery.

Hi everyone! I purchased a 520-15IKB roughly a month ago. I've been really satisfied with it so far but for some reason it does not restart. I've tried using the CMD commands to restart and obviously the restart option from the start menu but it shuts down instead of restarting. This has resulted in the "restart to complete update" notifications not going away. It's been this way out of the box. It also keeps freezing while gaming and the only way to recover it was to force a shutdown by long-pressing the power key. Are any of these known issues? Any fixes?

Maybe try using OneKey Recovery to restore device to the factory state (it will remove all your files).

Hello, i received a Lenovo Ideapad 305 computer on 9th of March 2017. Immediately after that day, computer showed signs of weird behaviour. It shut down instead of going to Sleep Mode when attempting to use that command. I swear i checked out the battery settings and it seems that computer shuts down even when manually choosing sleep mode. Last night i also came across a problem when computer restarted instead of shutting down. I tried installing all the possible updates, but it didn't fix the issue. At the very beginning Sleep Mode actually worked fine but something must have corrupted it. Power Troubleshooting didn't provide any results. The big programs i have installed are Comodo Antivirus, Sony Vegas and Adobe Photoshop. I have removed some of Lenovo's own installed minor software because i found them useless. There are still some updates that Windows wants to install but i'm being skeptical if they will fix the issue. Information:Windows 10 HomeIntel Core i7-5500 U CPU @ 2.40 GHZRAM: 8,00 Gb

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo Ideapad IdeaPad 100 14ibd - win10 and basically im planning on formatting my laptop to get rid of all the stuff/unknown files that are terribly slowing down my ram. But im still new to this process so im wondering if using Lenovo's Onekey recovery is a good thing but then i saw the Reset this PC feature of windows is another thing. My question is, what would be the more recommended thing i should do to get my laptop to its original state just like the new windows 10, or are there any difference within those  two?PS: I got my back up files all set from this laptop to my external hd already Thank you!

I got a 2nd hand Lenovo Ideapad 100S. It came with Win10 installed but had someone elses profile and data.
(I am not sure if it originally had Win8.1 when it was shipped, there is no rollback option anymore)
My preference is to wipe the current installation completely by downloading Win10 and installing a clean copy off USB.
I also usually prefer to delete all partitions, including recovery because future reinstallations can be done from scratch via USB. (I don't need the option of reinstalling from recovery partitions , the extra space is more important)
I see a warning in the user guide however .....
"Do not delete or modify the Recovery Partition on a WIMBoot-enabled computer. If the Recovery Partition is deleted or modified, you may not be able to restore Windows to the factory status. For computer models on which WIMBoot is enabled, deleting the Recovery Partition may cause Windows to fail to start. How can I determine whether the Windows running on my computer is WIMBoot enabled? WIMBoot technology is normally enabled on copies of Windows 10 Update running on SSD (or eMMC) -only computer models."
What is the best way to do this?

Install a clean copy and remove the partition by booting off a USB, or should I not do this?

A:Ideapad 100s - Win10 clean installation on ideapad...

 Hi larrens ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
It's a good thing you posted first before proceeding with any clean installation.
Not sure what the Machine Number is to verify the details and specifications of your system.
But if you have a pc with a Windows Image Boot (or WIMBoot) you may not want to choose a clean installation.
This new deployment of installation is compressing part of a big OS file so that you can have an operating system that can only take small spaces intended for small storages (SSD).
Best option to wipe out previous owners profile is a have a fresh out of the box image is using the Puch button Factory reset (Novo key similar to Item 7 page 1). Simply shutdown the system and use the button to turn on, System Recovery option would provide One key recovery from initial backup to do it.
WIM boot are usually created thru OEM depot authorized by Microsoft . DIY for WIMboot maybe a bit complicated.

I am running Windows XP, my PC shuts down, almost seems to go into sleep mode as I am still getting power to the hard drive, but there is no activity and my screen goes black. This happens shortly after startup.

I have had some success running in safe mode, but even then it shuts down in a short amount of time. I have had no luck going on-line from that machine.

I received a couple emails from a friend who now says that he was having similar problems a couple of weeks ago. As i am suspicious that this may have been the cause, I am obviously reluctant to try his methods of fixing this. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

I tried turning it back on but it just flashed a couple lights made a little noise and turned straight off again. This repeated several times. Then it started up, operating perfectly, I ran a AVG to check for any viruses and it completed the scan saying all clear. The laptop continued to work for a couple hours, then shut down. It is once again not booting up. I need some way of booting it up and stopping it from doing this again... What can I do?

Just wondering if somebody can help me troubleshooting the issue i'm encountering.

This week-end i was playing Operation Flashpoint 2 since 2 hours in coop when suddenly after a respawn (PC was showing a high level view of the map). My PC turned off (same as if i unplugged the power). I tried to turn it on again, but, nothing worked. I had the same issue with Bionical commando, but at startup...

I had to turn off the power supply (i have a switch on my pwr supply to turn it off), wait a few minutes, turn it on again and then, everything restarted normally.

After the reboot, i noticed that my Graphic card was around 77C.
So, my idea was that my power supply goes into protected mode for some reason, and maybe due to the temperature.

Did somebody have an idea on how i can troubleshoot this further?

My config is:
- Intel Core2Duo E7300 (2.66Ghz)
- Asrock 4core1600-Glan
- 2 times 2x1Go Corsair DDR2-667
- Power Supply: Fortron Blue Storm 500w

Hi stupid question problem xp not shutting down i first goto start then turn off computer screen pops up with stand by turn off or restart i click either restart or turn off hard disk light flashes a lot but thats all recently added to pc was divx and K-Lite_Codec_Pack_710_Standard was trying to create dpg files for my ds

A:xp pro not shutting down

I don't think " divx and K-Lite_Codec_Pack_710_Standard" would cause a shut down failure.

Try this for shutdown;
%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 0
(Create a shortcut with the above "Target", or type it into " Start, Run".)

If that works, you have a corrupted ShutDown link.

EDIT: Here's the Restart command structure;
%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -r -t 0

This can be caused by overheating. If it is a Desktop then open the case and blow out the dust bunnies with compressed air. Especially the Heat Sync. Restart and make sure the processor fan is spinning. boot into the bios and post the fan speeds, temps etc.

What error does your event log in windows give you, if any? Most likely it would show under the System section.

Every 5-10 minutes or so my internet explorer shuts down and sends me back to the desktop. This usually happens when a pop-up window is blocked, but not always. It's very annoying can anyone help?

A:XP PC keeps shutting down?

I would try either a clean install of Windows or you can try a repair install.

Looks like a file system problem. Ntfs.sys ( Ntfs+2844a )

i'm running Vista and my computer just wont shutdown...and like the person that made this thread, how they used hibernation, well that wont even work. Its not a virus, because currently, I am running and advanced Version of Nortins AntiVirus and yes i keep it up to date as well as everything else in my computer.

As for components the only thing that may be needed to know is that I'm using a GeForce6100SM-M, so yes that means i'm using nVIDIA software..(I've heard that this could be the problem "The helper thing that is involved with it*)

P.S. I was told in another thread to try to go into advance settings and uncheck the auto restart thing and that didn't work. Also i checked the computer for errors and it says that there ain't any.

A:Not Shutting Down

Check Event Viewer for errors or hangs at about the time of shutdown.

Okay, I know that I am in the wrong forum for this topic. Please don't move my post or I will not be able to get to it. My sister's computer has been hijacked I believe. She hasn't been running an AntiVirus AT ALL! (Yes I know) However, when I was called in she had a bogus program running (System Security - I believe). Long story short, I can't find the program at all on hard drive. Also anytime you go to search on IE it shuts down completely. Also I cannot install any program which involves antivirus, spyware removal, etc. If I even click on a link, IE shuts down.I do have a HiJackthis log and I am hoping that something can be fixed from this log and under this topic.Again, I cannot post under another topic because IE disables me from viewingAny help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.Logfile of Advanced SystemCare 3 Security AnalyzerScan saved at 8:12:36 PM, on 4/4/2009Platform: Windows XP (WinNT 5.1)MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.0 (8.0.6001.18702)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\wcescomm.exeC:\Progr... A:IE Shutting Down

Can you explain why you won't be able to get to it? Are you unable to get to the HiJack This forum? If so, are you able to get to the Am I Infected forum? If you can, I can move this topic there, minus the log, and see if we can get enough of the infection removed so you can post properly in the HiJack This forum if such is warranted.

Hi there, my IE keeps shutting down on me when I click on my favourites. I have run antivirus, webroot spyware and ad-aware scans but this problem keeps persisting. This I think is the report that comes up when it shuts down; Error Signature AppName ieexplore.exe AppVer 6.0.2900.2180 ModVer ModName unknown. This has happened a few times I have sent the report to mirosoft but have received no reply, or solution to this problem. Any help would be very much appreciated
