Chrome crashes at launch

Q: Chrome crashes at launch

I have windows 8 with classic shell that makes it look like windows 7 on an Acer PC. Mozilla Firefox works fine. I have used chrome for a long time and all of a sudden today it would not launch. Clicking the shortcut icon would light it up as if it was launching and then it would go dim. When I restarted a weird computer game launched that I have never seen or hear of before, which makes me think its malware. I did not write down the name of the game and don't remember it. After restarting I ran Avast scanner and Anti-malwarebytes. Neither showed any malware. I have uninstalled and reinstalled chrome and now the program launches but immediately after launch it crashes with the message "A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a sollution is available." I have not noticed any other symptoms of malware or abnormalities, but still concerned. Thanks for the help.

Preferred Solution: Chrome crashes at launch

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My OS is Windows 8.1 64-bit. My current Google Chrome version is 62.0.3202.94.

I was having a problem with right click in Explorer (link) and having almost exhausted trying different options to fix the problem I decided to do a system restore to 3 days ago before the last software and Windows updates, problem posted here https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/663042/windows-right-click-issue/ The restore fixed my right click issue in explorer but I found I was unable to launch my chrome browser at all. The steps I then followed to try and resolve the problem were as follows:

1. Kill any chrome process from task manager:

In task manager there were no previous instances of Chrome running but when I click chrome to attempt to launch it, it shows the Chrome.exe in task manager briefly then disappears, and does not launch.

2. Ran security scans:

I ran the following

- Malwarebytes Anti-Malware home (premium) Threat scan
- ESET Online Scanner: Enabled detection of Potentially unwanted applications (Computer scan settings and enabled detection of potentially unsafe applications (Advanced settings)
- Avast Premier: Full antivirus scan

None of them found any issues.

3. Rebooted several times:

No change; chrome still failed to launch

4. Reset Google Chrome by deleting the User profile

I have a default profile and several other profiles. I backed up the default folder and deleted it from the location C:\Use... Read more

Hello there,

Today my Google Chrome desktop icon, or any icon for that matter, will not open the Google Chrome browser. I get a hourglass for 2 seconds then it acts as if I never clicked on it. When I double click to open it, chrome.exe appears for a few seconds on the Windows Task Manager before dissappearing.

I have scoured the internet looking for a solution but none have worked. Some involved an Application folder that I don't seem to have in the location stated. Have also tried uninstalling and re-installing.

I am running on Windows XP 32-bit. I am not sure what other system information is required to help solve this, but if you tell me I will try to provide it.

Could someone please help me?

Hi,

My laptop has been misbehaving and I suspect virus or malware infection.
I have a Lenovo G770 with i5 core processor running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.

Any attempt to launch Chrome browser causes the computer to freeze and requires a reset to regain control
of the machine. The computer is running slowly and noticeably hotter than normal. When viewing video the
playback hangs after about 45 minutes - it sometimes resumes after a while.

I have tried a system restore without success and used the Lenovo 1 touch recovery facility to return the machine to factory
settings, again without much improvement.

I use Avast (free edition) and all scans return clear. I ran Malwarebytes, the quick scan was clear but when I ran a full scan
the program stopped and became unresponsive at:

Ok so I can't launch google chrome, I click and nothing happens, IE still works tho. Also, I started getting this message when I reboot: Could not load file or assembly 'mom.implementation' or one of its dependencies. The system can not find the file specified. Also, my AVG gadget says !Not fully protected. This happened after downloading silverlight. I also downloaded Yahoo Messenger earlier but I doubt thats the problem, either way I uninstalled both programs. I got these problems all at the same time, and hopefully its fixable. Someone please help I run windows 7 btw.

A:Can't launch google chrome pls help

If AVG doesnt work like you want i think you should uninstall it. This might be usefull (http://www.pchell.com/virus/uninstallavg.shtml). Then i think you should download Avast (http://www.avast.com/en-dk/index).
Then you run a full system scan.

Have you tried to uninstall and install google chrome again?

The compatability troubleshooter fixed it for a day, then the next morning the same problem resided. Nothing happened to the PC that night. When Google unveiled the beta of its Chrome browser one year ago today, there were two explanations for its appearance. The official reason, as stated by Google in the official blog, was that "the web gets better with more options and innovation. Google Chrome is another option, and we hope it contributes to making the web even better."
The unofficial reason, as stated by pretty much everybody, was that Google wanted to own the browser market the way it owns search. So how is it doing?

Fed up with FF having so many glitches I have started using Chrome. I prefer FF but, for the most part, Chrome works well and quicker. There is one thing it won't do, though, and that's launch when I boot up my laptop. I have to click the icon in the Taskbar, then Chrome takes a minute or more to open. I've pinned it to Startup and gone to MSconfig/Startup but it isn't listed there. If it was it would be a simple matter.

Can anyone tell me how to get Chrome listed in MSconfig/Startup? I just hate these little niggles.

Hey, I'm not new, just never created a user here, new to Win 8.1, but I've been around seven forums for years. Anyway, I can't figure this out. At random, for no apparent reason, usually shortly after launching Chrome (I run the new, 64bit Canary version) it begins to use around 27-30% of my Cpu, I have no idea what it's doing, but it's even causing the Cpu to boost, so it's not only hogging resources, but making the system run hot and waste power. I've run it with all extensions disabled, same result, doesn't seem to matter what web page I open, or how many tabs I have open. I'm 100% certain there's no virus or malware, on this rig I visit probably less than 15 total websites, and they're all mainstream and safe. I've scanned it with 2 great programs, Malwarebytes and Spybot S&E. This is my secondary rig, it's for work, but I also do some gaming on it. I filled out my profile with the specs of this rig rather than my main gaming rig, my main rig is better, but same OS, same browsers, no issues.

Anyway, here's a screenshot. I struggle to diagnose it because it's not any of the tasks, but the main browser instance. Have a look, and this with only gmail, and a tiny web forum I visit open, that's it.

I really hope someone can help me, I've posted this in various places to no effect, I absolutely love Canary, but I can't use it right now because of this, and I just don't like the layout of Firefox. I have not been able to repeat this on the gaming rig and the wi... Read more

Hi! I have recently noticed that Google Chrome either only opens(with a very long delay, 3 minutes or so.) when run as an admin. or doesn't open at all. Also when I do get it open a page could only last for about 5 minutes before freezing and having me to open a new tab-though some pages freeze later than others.
The only change that ever happened on my computer before this problem started was I cleared my browsing history. Other than that I know no change.

So far I've only tried deleting the UserData.

Please help, I'm really used to using Chrome and not liking other browsers as much.

My computer sounds like it is constantly working the most difficult process imaginable. I can't launch Google Chrome at all, which is my default browser, and Skype will try to load but just spin. At first, it was a minor issue. The video would freeze, the error message would appear, so I'd tell it to close, but then I could immediately reopen and view the video. Frustrating, but minor.

Four days ago, Shockwave crashed (while viewing jacksonbrowne.com.) The error message appeared, but clicking on close did not work. I could not close the page. I could not close Chrome. I could not activate ctrl/alt/delete. I could not access the Start button. All that was left was a hard shutdown with the power switch.

Now it got really weird. I can not launch XP. It seems fairly normal, if maybe a little slow, but hangs on the Welcome page for much too long. Finally the wallpaper opens, and then it freezes. No icons, no taskbar (so no Start button), just wallpaper and a cursor (that does move.) Ctrl/alt/delete still doesn't work. All I can do is press and hold the power switch to shut it off.

In Safe Mode with Networking, logged on as Administrator, I've gone to Last Good Config - no help. System Restore - no help. Uninstall Chrome - no help. I've run Norton Security Scan and Bitdefender Online Scan - both say my system is clean. (M... Read more

when ever i install need for speed most wanted it works the first time and then the second time it works only if i unplug my controller, which i need to play the game. I'm running ultimate x64 and I've tired it in xp sp2 and 95 mode. As soon as it launches it just crashes.

A:need for speed crashes on 2nd launch

two questions:

1: why do you need to install the software twice?
2: any error messae, this will help.

some thoughts about this problem:

1: as we could installl it the first time, so this software it'self is ok. which means that this software is compatible with windows vista.
2: this issue is only encountered with the controller pluged. so this issue might be related with THIS controller. check if you could contact the manufacturer of this controller to get some more detailed information.

anything unclear feel free to email me:

i will do my best to help you to solve this issue.

This issue has been happening for 2 days. I have Windows 8.1 in an Asus G46V and it has worked smoothly since I bought it.
My anti-virus is Norton 360.
When I logged into my computer, I got an error message saying that I could use the computer because I was administrator or something like that. It was the first time I had seen that in my life. I ignored it and I tried to launch Chrome. It took around 4 minutes to start, normally it takes 5 seconds. I didn't know what it was, so I looked at event viewer and I saw I had several errors of Service Control Manager, event ID 7000. Maybe it was related, I don't know. This just happened recently. Whenever i open google chrome, nothing happens. Same is true when i am opening windows firewall (I am opening windows firewall to check my firewall settings bec google chrome does not launch).

I have tried to run a system scan - sfc /scannow - and says that there is an error that it cannot fix.

Please help me in solving this problem. I have googled all possible solutions but the problem still arises every time i restart my pc. Thank you in advance and God bless.

A:Google chrome and windows firewall both do not launch/open

Open a Elevated Command Prompt.

Press WIN + X to open Start context menu.
Select Command Prompt (Admin).
Run the following series of commands, up to 3 times, see if that fixes the sfc problem.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
SFC /scannow
I would suggest you update and run a full anti-virus scan and install and run Malware Bytes Anti Malware (free version).

Also it seems my computer is constantly using up much more ram than it should, about 2.8gb-3gb total with nothing running.

Also on a separate issue, is that in some applications (skype for example) I no longer have a "backslash" symbol (\) but instead what I believe to be the japanese version of a backslash symbol, a capital (Y) with two lines through it.

I'd really love your guys help of solving this mystery, thanks in advance.

Issue: After updating to Chrome version 39.0.2171.99 m, the taskbar icons refresh (turn to white pages then back) on every launch of the browser.

Fix: The latest version of Chrome features a new profile management system within the browser. Once Chrome has updated, this feature is accessed through an icon beside the Window buttons ( Minimize, Restore, and Close).

Disabling this feature through the flags menu fixes the said issue.

1. Type chrome://flags into Chrome's omnibox/address bar.
2. Search for "Enable new profile management system" (Tip: Hit Ctrl+F and type the keywords)
3. Change the setting to "Disabled"
4. Relaunch Chrome

Hope this helps

Hello! Hope all is well with you all at Bleeping Computer.

Yesterday, I happened to catch the Windows 7 repair virus, but following Bleeping Computer's directions I was able to stop it with MalwareBytes and get my icons back with Unhide. Unfortunately, not all was fixed and I still have a nasty redirect virus. When I try to go anywhere in Internet Explorer, I am redirected to affiliate spam sites, most notably with the word jump2 or findjittery in the url. Firefox and Chrome won't even launch anymore.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit. I have tried the following to find the redirect so far with no luck: MalwareBytes, Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, TDSSKiller, SpywareBlaster, and avast. For your use, I followed the directions in your Preparation Guide sticky, ran Defogger, posted the DDS text below, and attached the Attach.txt. I also have HijackThis installed if you need that.

I appreciate your time and any help you can give, thanks!

A couple of days ago my Outlook XP (2002) began crashing on start-up (after generally launching and running normally before). I installed Office XP Service Pack 3 in hope that this update would fix the problem however it didn't.

On start-up, the following things occur:
1. The MS Outlook main window and introduction splash screen (i.e. large logo with user and product ID details, etc) is displayed as if Outlook is loading as normal
2. The main application window is white, i.e. with no actual program elements (folder list, preview pane, etc) displayed inside except the main toolbar ("File", "Edit", "View", etc).
3. After a short while (c.15-30 seconds) the application crashes and the "Restart Microsoft Outlook" and "Send Error Report" dialogue box is displayed. The Error Report contains the following error signature data:

AppName: Outlook.exe
AppVer: 10.0.6626.0
ModName: Outllib.dll
ModVer: 10.0.6515.0
Offset: 0002d704

Outlook also failed to launch in "Safe Mode" and also after I deleted my default Outlook.pst and Outlook-Hotmail.pst files (made copies first so I didn't lose the data).

I have spent the last couple of days trying to resolve this problem myself and checked several websites (including Microsoft) for any information that might help me but have found nothing.

Recently, bought an Apple iMac, installed Parallels virtual machine and installed my Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3 and installed my CS3 Premium. Every program works except Illustrator. It crashes every time I launch it getting the error message..."blah, blah, blah, sorry for the inconvenience...'' and asks to send an error report. I have uninstalled and reinstalled every possible way, downloaded all the updates, and fixed the registry, repeatedly and every time it fails. I have been using CS3 on my HP laptop every since I got it and never had issues.

Adobe support sent me this doc: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401053.html

This is the error message: Faulting application error illustrator.exe, version 13.0.128.0, faulting module gdiplus.dll, version 5.2.6001.22319, fault address 0x0000f75b.

This is very frustrating. I bought the new imac 2 weeks ago and have yet to do any design work because of this issue. Illustrator is the one program above all I use the most. I am trying to avoid having to pay someone to solve this issue.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Is this a prebuild, branded PC like a HP, Dell, Acer etc? If so, what is the exact make and model number?

What is the exact make, model and wattage of the PSU?

Have you ever changed or upgraded any hardware since you got the machine?

Is Windows and all your drivers fully patched and up to date?

Could be drivers, PSU, graphics card, RAM or something else at this stage

Now whenever I launch windows media player it crashes on launch with the indiv01.exe fault. I looked at the guide to fix it and how I need to edit the registry, but I have no registry entry for DRM/DataPath. How would I add it or does anyone have more detailed steps on how to set this up if I don't even have this registry key? I also do not have any DRM content, so this might be why i don't have this datapath. I'll do a re-install if I have to, but I really don't want to at the moment.

Hi soulesschild,

Have you run system file checker to restore any missing/corrupted system files?
Run Checkdisk as well.
System Files - SFC Command
Check Disk - chkdsk
If that doesn't work, try repairing your OS with the repair option on your installation disk, if you have one.

Sorry about this but I have quite a bit of initial background information that really now only boils down to a fairly small problem, but It is all relevant information. A few days ago my computer started getting stop error messages, usually while browsing internet explorer. Sometimes they would just shut down IE, other times completley crash windows, causing an immediate re-boot, rather than the blue screen of death. Anyways, it would boot back up, saying it recovered from a serious error, cause by a device driver, or stop error. One of the remedies it listed was trying to do a repair of windows XP, which I ended up doing. It was only after I did this repair that I realized (remembered) what was causing the errors. Several years ago when I first got my current computer, I had similar problems. I fixed the problems by going into bios and adjusting the RAM timings, AKA slightly underclocking my RAM. Apparently there is some issue with my Motherboard where the speed of RAM I had installed is actually too fast of a speed for the motherboard, even though it lists that it should support the speed (I belive PC3200) Anyways like I said, it wasnt until after I did a repair of XP that I remembered that we had had a power outage a few days prior, that caused my BIOS settings to revert back to default. If I wouldve realized that initially, I probably wouldnt be having the problem I am having now. I ended up running the Repair of XP where it re-installs itself. During the Repair, I reciev... Two days ago, I was browsing as per normal through Chrome when Kaspersky encountered and blocked the trojan detailed above.  Since it declared the program was blocked, I thought nothing of it after doing a cursory Malwarebytes scan, and another with Kaspersky.

Today I rebooted my computer for the first time since that warning, and the first thing I noticed was a little lockpad-shaped icon down in my toolbar that appeared and disappeared fairly quickly (it's apparently some kind of windows process according to my googling).   When I tried to access Chrome it refused to launch, even though the program existed in the task manager.  I rebooted the computer several times only for the same thing to happen.  It finally successfully launched about an hour later, and it appears to be running normally but since that's super abnormal for my fairly new PC I thought I'd check in for some advice.  Is there a remnant of the trojan on my computer or was it just a fluke?

ETA: I get a message when I try to check for Windows updates that the server isn't running and I should relaunch Windows.

I have this lovely new PC which I built about 2 months ago now. Beast of a thing, but I'm having number of problems which, having been a mac user for 2 years now, I'm hopeless at fixing. Don't want to hog too much forum space so I'll shove them all on one post- even a small hint to get me started would be great and sorry for the excessive text! (I'll try and avoid too much unecessarry rambling from now).

All attempted solutions have been tried through 2 different working internet connections- 1 through a company network with firewall, proxy, the lot, the other just a 2MB Virgin home wireless network so it's not a network problem.

Here's a list of the main problems:

1. Firefox crashes when trying to load new pages on an almost 2 minutely basis- this seems to be a flash based problem? It's version 3.0.13 (can't update due to problem no.2). It still dies in safe mode so it's not an add on, and it doesn't seem to be due to a certain script or anything- it's just any website with ads or videos or anything like that at all and it's probably 1 in 3-4 time it loads a page (and while trying to preview this it crashed on the login page...nothing fancy on there that I saw). I can't find out if it's just FF since IE8 and Chrome can't find the internet- they only see the ethernet port and not my wireless card even though FF has no problem with it. (technically another problem for the list I suppose)

2. exe files don't launch- they just crash whatever thing I try and open them ... Read more

Hi -

My 1st question - when did you last re-install Vista and have you considered it recently? If not, I think you should. It would help isolate software issues vs. hardware, if they exist.

The major problem that I see here is the existence of both NIS & KIS together. Either by itself could be responsible for many of your problems because of the personal firewall they each contain. Having both exponentially increases the potential for trouble because they fight each other for control. Even if disabled they can cause trouble.

I would like for you to remove both NIS & KIS and then see if the system stabilizes at all. Use the removal tools for each written by Norton & Kaspersky.

Download the Norton Removal Tool (NRT); save to desktop. Then go to desktop, RIGHT-click on the NRT icon and select Run as Administrator. When complete - re-boot.

NRT - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe

Repeat the same for KIS - http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463

Reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Before you start, I would be interested to know if running in SAFEMODE w/ Networking is the same (crashes - IE, FFox, etc...) or do they work?
