IE8 Yahoo Email downloads

Q: IE8 Yahoo Email downloads

I started having a problem downloading .PDF, .WMV, and .PPS attachments after upgrading Ad-Aware.

AT&T tech support claims the problem is an IE8 bug but not IE7. I have no issue downloading the same attachments in Chrome.

Any insights would be appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yahoo Messenger 9 version, yahoo.co.in e-mail, Yahoo answers, etc. do not run/open on my PC. On attempting to log into Messenger 9 I get an error message: “Please click Try Again to re-enter your ID and password. If you have forgotten you ID or password, click Sign-in Problems”.

Earlier they would open only if they were the first programs I switched on when I would start my PC else I would get an error message “Messenger encountered a connection problem. Please check the network connection and then click "Try Again" (81003004)”.

My computer system: AMD 64 3200+ 2.01Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD, Windows Professional XP-2, IE 6 with Cookies Enabled, MS Office 2003, BSNL Broadband, Java (TM) 6 update 11, Java (TM) 6 update 7, no Startup programs other than AVG Free version 8. I am based in India.

I have checked with those using the same broadband connection as to not facing any problem with Yahoo.

Yahoo FT Server and Yahoo! Messenger are provided as exceptions in my Windows Firewall. In IE6 under Security Sites I have not blocked any website.

Oh boy!

I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP2.

Here is where I will start. My apologies, this might be long winded.
I was having problems with browsing (posted this prior) and wasn't getting anywhere with attempting to adjust browser settings. I was getting blocked going regular places. So... after getting very aggravated, I accessed Symantec's online chat help w/ an analyst. During this time, the analyst remotely accessed my computer on two occassions, ultimately finding out that the problem was not with the Norton 360 but was with IE (v.7). We were having problems with connectivity. He said his system said I was disconnected yet he was still in my system. He started a notepad doc to chat with me, saying that we were locking up and I should Google the verbage I was receiving during the browsing blocks I was receiving. As I was typing a response saying I have done that, we were disconnected. Since I knew what I had originally found, I disconnected completely and left it for today since more than 2-3 hours have now passed. Today, I cannot access my email. I receive an HTTP 405 error. (Programming error). I noted that in the heading, the address started like this: hxxp://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/toplevel/msgr6. After searching that on the web, I found that this is a BAD thing. I also noticed that the Phishing filter was off. Message said "Phishing filter cannot check this website because the Microsoft online service is temporarily unavailable&qu... Read more

Have you tried using an alternate browser like Firefox to see if you encounter the same problem? If you can use Firefox, then will narrow the problem down to an IE issue.Since you cannot run the Housecall or Panda scans, if you install Firefox you can then perform and online scan using Trend Micro Housecall Scan for Firefox. This also leads me to believe you have an ActiveX problem.

I belong to one Yahoo Group and have my email for that group set up for "individual emails" for all group messages. I receive all messages daily from all other group members except one member. Can't figure out why I don't get his messages (makes no difference if it is text only messages or messages with pics attached). The only way I know this particular member has posted to the group is when other members have their group email settings set up to automatically affix all/part of posts at the bottom of their replies to same. As you see by my signature, I use Firefox 1.5.09 as my default browser. My other realtime running programs also listed there, but I don't think they could be a factor. Not sure whether Firefox is a factor with the blocking. I have asked this member to post a test message today and I am accessing the net exclusively via IE6 today to see if his test message comes through or not. Will report back my findings on that score. BTW, I do not use an email client. I read all my mail directly off the Yahoo Mail website. Only thought I've had, is once or twice my mail has "bounced" because my inbox was full. But my inbox rarely gets full. And this problem seems to be more persistent than just a few occasions. Anyone have any additional thoughts on what could be causing my dilemma?

A:Yahoo Web-based Email/yahoo Groups Problem

Don't know if it is the problem, but just realized I normally keep my mail options set to "automatically delete" bulk mail messages. Maybe somehow this group member's messages are being "perceived" as spam and Yahoo's spam filter is blocking his posts. I've gone into my settings just now and told it to hold those messages a week for me so I can test possible factor. Will post back my findings.

For the past several weeks now, when I check my Yahoo email account using IE 8 version (actions performed: clicking on the Inbox, moving from email to email, opening an email) I am redirected to this website:

This does not happen all the time. It seems to be sporadic. I can have periods of time when this does not happen (I can open several messages or navigate from one message to another and not have a problem) then all of a sudden I will be redirected to the site listed above. If I click the back button I can get back to my email and move around once again. The redirect may or may not occur again or from that point forward. From what I have read online, there doesn't seem to be a fix for this issue.

I have tried running several scans with Malwarebytes (in safe mode), Ad-Aware, AVG, Spybot, Hitman Pro 3.5 and ComboFix. But, none of these scans have returned any results that have resolved this issue. I have also removed all versions of Java and updated to the latest version (Java 6 update 23). I've also removed all versions of Adobe and installed Adobe Reader X version 10.0.0 as I have read that keeping old versions may pose a security risk. Just trying to provide as much information on what I've done up to this point.

Hi Geniuses:
I wanted to throw this out to you to see if there was a solution to my "inbox zero woes"

Yahoo Email address (yes I know)
iPhone with Outlook App
Mac Computer with Mail APP
Extra Gmail account with a "send gmail from account"

What I found was that while on the road (most of my email use) the Outlook App for iPhone was fastest at fetching mail, and I LOVE the interface (ability to snooze emails, archive etc).

Problem is, my home mac with MAIL doesn't play nice when I archive Emails on my app.
Secondly, I also like to use gmail as a web client for searching files, using todo etc.

My question: can all of these play nice in the same sandbox? Can I archive on one device, and have it translated amongst the others? If not, what are my solutions (switching over to outlook on Mac? Just using a GMAIL address from now on). Would love some light / insight on this.

Many, Many thanks!

I have been having the following problem for several weeks and nothing done so far seems to help.

I use Yahoo mail as my primary non-work email provider. I only have this problem when using Yahoo mail, not any other email applications and my computer works fine other than this. When I recieve emails that have attachments, no matter what type; doc, pdf, jpeg, they never finish downloading. When I open the email everything pops up smoothly, I click the link to open the attachment, then a window pops up with a revolving green arrow to check for viruses, after several seconds it finishes and a button pops up that says "download file" so I click the button and then the windows download screen pops up asking me to save, open, or cancel. I have the problem if I click save or open either way. Once I choose an option the next window pops up with the little earth and a file folder and the paper flipping between the two. Nothing else comes up in the window. I am used to seeing the download speed and the estimated time remaining but it never shows and the download never completes. Sometimes I can download one or two things and then this occurs and its like my... Read more

You can see if clearing the cache does any good,
Open ie Gear symbol on the top right/ Safety/ Delete browser history,
Check all of the boxes except for the Top box Uncheck it and click on Delete.
You can Uncheck Form fills if she uses that feature.
Also run Disk cleanup,
Use Disk cleanup if more than one user exists on the machine use System clean up as well,

Just like to add after doing the above please power down/ Shut down the machine and restart.

I use about 5 different internet based email accounts to manage my affairs( Yahoo email mostly, but also Hotmail and Gmail, etc,....NO Onboard email used at all) . Some are for friends email, some for family, others for various business interests, online purchase, etc. If I get certain emails, I NEED to know about it ASAP as I'm working/browsing on my computer.

I have used a program called "eprompter" before but found it unreliable. Sometimes it would not notify me at all that a new email had just arrived that I'd been waiting for. That is very aggrevating when they are important and need to be opened and replied to promptly. That NOT being notified at all when new a email arrives in my Inbox Can Not Happen. Most of them are TOO Important for it to just not tell me about!

And also, if I independantly just go to my Yahoo Inbox, I notice it just marks emails I have not read....as already read. That's Spooky! I Just DON'T Trust ePrompter!!!

There Must be a good one that doesn't try to fake out whether you've seen emails or not !
Does anyone know of a free, but really good and dependable Email Notifier program to monitor all my internet based accounts at once, please?

My email just started downloading all my mail that I already received since Feb 2-6 up untill now. So today I have 1138 emails trying to download. But I have already downloaded them. If I close Outlook and re-open it downloads the same emails it just downloaded. I have not waited for it to download all 1138 emails. But know I have 4 x the same emails since Feb 2. I have made sure the setting to keep emails on the server is unchecked. What else can this be? Hope this makes since.

Hi everyone,

I currently have a server setup with 1 desktop and 2 laptops connected to it. The server stores all of our media etc on it.

What I would like to do is have it setup so that when a user downloads a file to the server the user name and file name are extracted and when the download completes the user who requested it is sent an email.

in steps its

1. file moved to folderA user name and file name recorded

2. file moved to processing folder and downloaded

3. file moved to completed folder and user emailed file name and short message
I think steps 1 and 2 could be completed with a batch im just unsure how to do it and as for step 3 i think i would need some sort of watcher or something?

any help would be great! cheers!

Does anyone use Yahoo email? A few weeks ago, I got a notice that said that a new service would be put into effect... a Bulk Mail folder... to catch spam. And that Yahoo filters would automatically divert known spam to this folder. It's never worked. It does not divert spam to it; they come into my Inbox. I contacted them multiple times via their web form contact form. Finally, got a canned reply. It still does not work. Does anyone use their service and the bulk mail folder... does yours work or not? Did you have to do anything to make it work? Does anyone know how to contact a real person there? I either have to get this solved or give it up; I'm gettting 100 spams per day.

Is the problem likely in my router if no virus can be found? I've used every anti-virus, anti-spy, anti-rootkit tool available, free and paid, nothing found. I don't have trouble with my other computers attached to the same router. I have 2 computers - an eMachines desktop and a Gateway laptop. They are both Windows 7, and I use Windows Live Mail on both. I use the desktop during the day, and set up the laptop on the bed for the evening before I go to sleep. I have 3 email addresses, and want to use the 3rd one on both computers. This way, I don't have to have my friends or groups writing to me at two different addresses, which is difficult to remember and complicated for them. When I'm not at the desktop, I want to receive the email from the 3rd address on the laptop, and vice versa.

The problem that arises is, I get full downloads of all emails for the day on both computers. Anything I've already received on the desktop is also received when I move to the laptop later in the day. Is there any way to stop these duplicate downloads?

When I get new mesages in my gmail account, which I access through OE6, it says it's downloading 984 or 677 or 820 messages. But they are my own old emails from one specific storage folder (containing last year's mail).
If I stop the download and try again - it just raises the number of old messages it plans to pour in.
Can I stop this crazy downloading?!

Edit 3:40pm
Now it's getting worse. A password authentication box has started popping up when I try to retrieve mail. It wants the password "for this server," which would be gmail, I assume. But it's already displaying that information in the box. I typed in my gmail password, got the box over & over. The password is dots of course, but I retyped it about 20 times. The box that says "Remember Password" is grayed out. But there was a checkmark in it.

Have you tried reapplying your POP settings in Gmail to be effective from todays date?
Use: Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on

Do you plan on keeping your old messages on GMail's server? If not, delete them from Gmail's server, then have Outlook Express download your messages.

I've had this problem for years. My Windows Live Mail 2012 frequently (not always) downloads duplicates of every new email. The email protocol is POP3. Someone suggested I should use IMAP. I tried it. . . but, at least with Comcast's system, IMAP duplicates what's on the server. . . which can go back several years of emails. . . which I DO NOT want to retain. Comcast provides no option to delete emails older that X days, so when I switched to IMAP, every g.d. email I've received in the last 3 years downloaded to my Inbox. So I went back to POP3.

So why do I get duplicates?

We are running Outlook 2003 in XP SP2 Home Edition. My wife and I each have our own user name, etc.

We have 3 POP email accounts: Hers, Mine and Ours, with different usernames and passwords, all with the same ISP (Comcast.net). I have set up her Outlook account to receive Hers and Ours, with instructions to leave a copy of Our messages on the server for 10 days. Of course, I have set up mine to download Mine and Ours, leaving Ours on the server 10 days. That way, theoretically, I'll see all my email and our email, she'll see all our email and her email, unless one or the other of us doesn't get on for 10 days (highly unlikely...10 hours maybe).

Mine works fine. But she keeps getting stuff like the CERT reports, stuff from The Tech Guy, reviews from ZD Net and other stuff she doesn't want to wade through. When she opens one, at the top it is clearly addressed to me, not her or us. When she pulls down Tools and selects Email accounts, Outlook shows her only two: Hers and Ours. Microsoft KB search reveals nothing; ditto Comcast.net Help search.

Any clues? How come she can't stop getting mail for an account which is not listed in Outlook, or even in Start/Control Panel/Mail/Profiles/Accounts?

Thanx for any suggestions...

This just started today.... everything I download from AOL email is not being recognized as valid images. If I download a jpg and open it, the edit screen is empty. If I go to Windows Explorer, there is a file there, but the image will not display and if I click to open, it says no preview. PSP files can't be seen and/or recognized as a valid image file either. AOL says this is a Windows error.

Last week I had a problem with not being able to see, read, respond to or download from any of my aol emails. AOL says I had a corrupt file in my PFC. I reinstalled AOL without transferring any of my back up file and have not had any reoccuring problems until this today.

I've run McAfee, Spybot and AdAware and deleted everything that showed up. And.... even though I have McAfee Privacy Firewall, Panda Antivirus Platinum, and a LinkSys Router on at all times, all these 'things' keep getting through on my computer.

Any file downloaded from the internet is immediately deleted, regardless of the browser used (Chrome, Firefox, IE9), regardless of whether or not antivirus software is installed (currently AVG 2013 but this has happened with previous versions of AVG and Microsoft Security Essentials), and regardless whether or not Windows Firewall is turned on. Internet Explorer reports that the download in question contained a virus and was deleted. I've run AVG from a rescue disk and found the computer to be uninfected.

Also tried downloading from Safe Mode with Networking and from a new User Account. Will try clean boot now.

Clean boot didn't work either.

A:Downloads from internet including email attachments immediately deleted

If you are having problems with the files deleting immediately on download you might want to download Malwarebytes from another computer to a USB drive or CD and then transfer it to the possibly infected system. You can use these instructions for downloading and running Malwarebytes...

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to your desktop.

Right-click and Run as Administrator mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan as shown below.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.

The log can also be found here:

When i am wrighting a email sometimes i click on space and the whole message just vanishes. Another problem i have had with it is after i choose a name from my address book and send a message, I get prompted to add address to my address book, even though the name is already there. these are not huge problems but the one about dissapearing text is, what i am looking for in a answer is that maybe i am accidently hitting some thing to make the text vanish? if so could someone inform me of what i am hitting so that i can avoid those keys?????

A:Yahoo. email

CI, try this test for the spacebar problem:

Next time you're in the program, hold your ALT key down and hit the spacebar. Does THAT make your whole message disappear? I ask because ALT keys get "stuck" a whole lot more than other keys. If you ALT key gets stuck from time to time, it causes completely different behavior when you hit another key. Then, if you find it IS a sticky ALT key, then just hit your ALT key about 10 times right in a row. That should UNstick it. I know it might sound weird, but this is a for-real fix...

If I'm in the wrong section, I do apologize! I actually have two questions. The most important.......I use Yahoo email. I get a ton of SPAM everyday but I have the box checked >> "Empty Spam Folder: Immediately".
In the past, the folder would never have even one spam in it when this is checked but now, it makes no difference. Has anyone had this same issue? Any assistance would really help me out.
The other unrelated question >> Is there a DECENT FREE anti virus program I can download?
When I say FREE, I'm not talking about the free 30 day trial, then I have to get my credit card out. Thats not free in my book. Free, 365 days per year would be great. Any advice? As always, thanks for the help guys. You do more good for others than you may know.

Hi, and welcome.
Can't help you with the first part, but I have been using Avast for about three years now on several computers, with only ever one problem. This was a false positive which resulted in my having to re-install all my graphics software. All Avast (free) costs is an e-mail address for registration, then you get 12 months use, and need to renew the registration annually. I also use Malwarebytes and Super Anti-spyware (both free and downloadable from this web-site).
The only thing is to be careful when downloading and installing it that you click on the 'Free' buttons !
If you decide you don't like Avast, then AVG is also generally well  thought of.

Does anyone know how to get my AOL mail forwarded to Yahoo? AOL is blocked at my job and want to be able to check e-mail. Yahoo only checks POP mail and AOl is IMAP.

A:AOL Email in Yahoo

Your company has good reason to bock the connection, and we're not going to help you get around that. You'll just have to wait until you get home to check your AOL account.
