Extremly Noisy Laptop

Q: Extremly Noisy Laptop

Hi, I brought a new laptop a few months ago and recieved it pre-set up despite asking them not to. When I got it home I discovered that the laptop was incredible noisy, it sounds like the fan is going constantly despite me not having anything open, then turns into a constant clicking noise. I returned it the next day as it wouldnt stop, and again asked for the replacement not to be pre-set up, only for them to give me another one that was. Unfortunately this makes exactly the same noise after a few months of using it, and I was wondering 1) what is it and can I stop it? 2) What are my rights about returning it as it is not damaged, just loud? I ask this because the noise makes it incredibly dificult to study for uni. Thanks for your help

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dell Latitude w/ Windows XP, 25% free space. Most time it is extremly slow (like today), while other times it moves along at a respectable speed. The only thing that seems to help is running Lavasoft (just ran and did a complete restart) but not always. It took me about 1.5 hrs to login to techguy, print the Welcome Guide (oh that was painful), get registered, etc. then do a quick search in the forums b-4 posting this question.

I believe there are a lot of programs/applications running in the background that could be removed but I do not know what is required to stay running. Am I barking up the wrong tree or will this speed up things?

The laptop sets beside a Jurasik (sp?) Park model (Windows 98) desktop that won't die and just keeps plugging away at top speed. I need the same from my laptop.

Any suggestions appreciated (and please be specific on actions to perform as I am an end user, not a tech head). Thanks...

Hi, My lap top Compaq Presario B1900 is running extremly slow. At the moment I am unable to even open files. A few months ago I noticed it was registering that the hard drive was almost full, which I found odd as I couldnt locate any extremly large files. I havent used it much and now it takes hours to get it going. Is there and easy way to search for files stored that are over a certain size? I have managed to delete files on the desktop hoping I might get a bit of speed back but as at right now, still waiting for my documents folder to open at 30min and counting. Please help me.

Clean boot the machine using the manual method and GO ONLY as far as STEP 3 pls. Do not proceed to step 4.

The go to this link below from MIcrosoft and in Control Panel add and remove programs, uninstall any programs you KNOW beyond doubt that you do not use.
Having done that run a disk cleanup.

Having done that go My computer, right click the hard drive , click properties and post the info re the capacity and free space.

If the computer is running with a noticeable improvement to allow you to doanload and run items then please do as below.

I have this acer laptop which is quite a manance. It gets very slow as soon as I start Windows XP (Professional.) The cursor stucks while moving and you just can't do anything. Even when I press and hold the power button to stop the machine it stops after 20 to 40 seconds where as normally it takes no more than 5 seconds.

Also, there are two drives C and D drive on the harddisk. When I double click D drive an 'Open With' window opens up asking which program do I want to open the file with!. When I right click it the first option on the popup menu is "Auto".

Since it was impossible to operate the mchine in normal mode I have taken HiJackThis log from safe mode.

hello to you all , im new here and im in desperate need of help.

my laptop has been running fine over the last 12 months ( its 18 months old ) .
but just latly its running slower than a snail on a zimmer frame . it takes ages to access any program of any kind i.e msn , internet , files on computer etc..

what can ii do to speed it uop a bit . installed a thing called register fix v6. but that has done nothing im at my wits end please help me.

thanks chunky

A:laptop running extremly slow than usual

Well we do not recommend using registry cleaners or "fixers" as they have a tendency to delete the wrong thing and make your system even worse off than it was. The first thing to look at is how many processes you have running at any given time (press ctrl + shift + esc to get the task manager, then click on the Processes tab). You shouldn't have more than about 40 (though this # can vary depending on what you have running on a daily basis).

You can also sort the processes by the amount of memory they are using and the amount of CPU time they are utilizing. This can help you identify trouble programs that are not operating properly.

There are some other basic things you can do. Disk Cleanup, Defragment, and spyware/adware scans. If you have any questions on these feel free to ask and I/we will elaborate.

I just re-installed the OS (Windows 7 64bit) on my Folio 9470m.  The WiFi is so sluggish, it is un-usable.  When I run a speedtest.net with a wired connection, I get 25mbps.  When I run the test with WiFi, it starts out at 25mbps, but drops quickly until the test times out before it gets to 100%. -The wireless device is Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235.  The driver version is had just obtained the laptop and didn't use it much before I re-installed the OS.  I believe the WiFi was fine before I re-installed the OS, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm hoping that this is something simple that I can fix.  Any ideas? Thanks,Mark

A:Laptop WiFi extremly slow and stops working

Drivers are about the only issue that can be fixed without replacing the card. Here is the driver download page: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_146625_1&swEnvOid=406... Note the instruction to remove prior drivers first. I would uninstall the wireless from device manager, use advasnced uninstall and remove the existing driver from the system and then reload the driver. Download the new driver and keep track of it as you uninstall since obviously once you uninstall you will not have wireless to download the driver with. If this does not work we need to think about replacement of the card. Have you otherwise installed the chipset and other drivers?

I have owned a Hewlett Packard laptop (Model - HP G7000) for approximately 4 years. It has been a good laptop but sometimes can be very noisy. I'm not sure if this is the fan or the hard drive. I suspect it is the fan as there has been no degradation in performance of the laptop (although it does freeze occationally). The noise can also be quite loud when playing certain memory intensive games. The noise sounds like a typical fan/"whirring" noise. My wife has described it as sounding like a hovercraft! Can a fan be taken out and cleaned, resulting in reduced noise levels? Does anyone know if changing the fan is a simple job for a competent DIY enthusiast? Any idea how much a new fan would cost?
Grateful for any advice!

A:Noisy Laptop

Not many laptops offer an easy-change fan. I recommend you blow out all of the ventilation ports to remove dust from the cooling system. Frankly, I have no confidence that canned air is sufficient for the job. The pressure just in not enough. I use a shop-grade air compressor for such a job with at least 40 to 45 pounds pressure; but, be careful to not overs-pin the fans. If you can prevent their spinning by inserting a paper clip, that would be great.

The fan itself could be faulty in the laptop. Therefore the noisy. As for the CPU usage, bring up Resource Monitor and track which app is using it up.

Hi! I received a new laptop just yesterday. It a Sony Vaio FS515E and seems to be really good. Im not sure if I have a problem though. After using the laptop for about 4 hours when I switch it only it makes a lot of noise, like a purring of a cat but also some clicking. I wouldnt expect that from a new laptop and it wasnt doing it at first.

When I request the laptop to do anything it makes this noise but not as much as when it switches on. Please can you help me - should I contact the supplier and ask for a replacement or do you think this is normal???

I've been having my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop for 2 years now. I don't remember when it started to be noisy and to heat when i turn on the laptop, but it's been a while. I tried to clean down the fan area to remove dust,as i thought it might have cloged the ventilation area, but it hasn't changed anything. It is too hot, that i can't put it on my lap and it makes a loud noise of a hair dryer and you can hear it from another room
I checked with HP, but apparently I have to renew my waranty and also remove everything from my laptop before sending it back to HP for fix. And i don't want to remove my softwares and other stuffs as i don't have my intallment CDs here with me ( i move to another country)
Do you have any ideas on how i could fix it without having to send it back to HP???
Thanks for any ideas

A:My Laptop is Noisy and is HOT!!! Help!

You could try buying a cooling base for it, which you just attach to the underside of your laptop and it has a few fans built in to it, and just keeps the laptop cool.

Laptops generally do get a bit toasty though. I've taken a few laptops apart myself and when you see how cramped it is in there, it's understandable why.

Hello, I have some problems recently with my laptop, the 5755G. The fan got really noisy a week ago so I decided to open it and I have to admit I was quite surprised because there was not so much dust in it. Then I cleaned it with an air spray and removed a bit of dust. Nothing changed... Even when I'm not using it the fan can start loudly and then stop 10 minutes later. According to Speedfan, GPU = 45C HD0= 37C Core0=Core1=53 with only a few things opened on Chrome. Well my question is whether I have to buy another laptop but that would suck because it's only a noise problem or if I could change the settings of my fan, or if it could be useful to buy a new one and to install it by myself (which I could do if that would solve the noise) Thank you in advance, and sorry for my english

Enter the BIOS to check if the "Fan Always on" option is enabled.  Power button, tap the Esc key. In the Startup menu choose F10 to enter the BIOS. If it is, disable it.  Even if it is disabled, the notebook's BIOS will activate the fan when temperatures get to specified levels to cool the notebook down when you are playing games . It is safe to disable it.

This might already be posted here, but I've never seen it anywhere.

My ACER laptop fell off a chair. Started it up, and the CPU heatsink fan started making a noise like it is rubbing something. But I noticed it would quit when the laptop was tipped on it's side, or upside down.

Took the back off, and could not see anything that looked like it was crooked, or bent. Removed the fan housing, and noticed that the fan blade was loose, and wobbly. I have a couple of heatsink fans from other laptops laying around, and checked them. Nice and tight. No way to modify one of those to work, and did not see the correct fan for sale online.

So, I decided to see if I could pry the fan off, and then replace it with one of the good ones. When I lightly pried one side of the fan down, and then pried the other side....it popped into place. No wobble, nice and tight! So I looked at the other two fans. All of them have what appears to be a fiber washer between the fan and housing, but do not rest against it. There is like a mm space.

So.....check that before you order a replacement fan if yours suddenly starts making noise after a bump.

Very noisy fan. I am very concerned about how noisy the fan is in my new machine. It seems like the fan is on very frequently and often very loudly even when I only have a few things open. Is this normal? It seems embarrassingly loud when it's not actually doing any major processing. There was certainly no mention of this when I bought it at JBHiFi. I don't think I would have purchased it if I'd known about this noise level. I am not a gamer, I do lots of Adobe stuff, so the machine was recommended.

I am a university student with very limited funds and I believe my 3 year old, Acer Aspire 3620 laptop is on it's way out. I am hoping for some suggestions on what to do with it, or if I should just invest in a new one

Here are my problems:
1) It used to happen once or twice a year, but for about a month now, my laptop will make a loud beep, but no error messages or change in functioning.
I heard from a friend that this means I need a new hard drive?
2) Sometimes my computer will shut down with a blue screen, telling me there's a 'memory parity error' in system 'fat 32'?
3) About 60% of the time when I shut it off, a message will pop up just before the screen goes black (so i dont have time to write it down) something like "fatal exception has occurred"
4) The fan is really noisy and warm, which I think means it needs to be cleaned, but not being familiar with computers, I am hesitant to do so. Any tips?

I have been running a disk defragmenter, which stops the beep, but only during that time. Now it says I don't have to run it anymore, and the beeping persists.
I'm not sure what to do, and I'm worried that all my files and work will disappear if it dies suddenly. I don't have an external HD because I'm not sure to invest in one.
Please help!!
Thank you in advance

A:Dying, noisy laptop?!

If you have a CD/DVD burner start saving your files. It may well be just your HD but if you don't have a backup on your files, and it dies, you're really in trouble. It sure wouldn't hurt to clean the system up, and I mean physically. Get a can of air if nothing else and blow the dust out of the fan.
Generally after a three years laptops are notorious for failures of some sort. As to whether you should purchase a new one or not - that's up to you and the budget.
So try cleaning your system out - as best you can, save your files on a Disk, and go here and download, http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html?Str=download
and run it. Your system will eventually let you know what's up. Have you gone into Device Manager to make sure all is well? Jazz

Hi all, hoping somebody can offer some advice.

About 9 months ago I purchased a new laptop, an Acer V5-571 (i3 1.4Ghz, 6GB RAM, 750GB HDD and Windows 8) It's nothing special and was never intended to be. I only use it for web browsing, e-mail, IM, Word and maybe watching some videos on YouTube.

In fact in the 9 months I've had it, I've not attempted to play one even slightly intensive game on it, as I think I killed my previous laptop in its early days by attempting to do this.

Anyway the problem is it has become very noisy, fan wise. When I first had the laptop (and for the first 6-7 months) it was silent for the majority of the time, even when browsing the web.

Now the fan can always be heard when I have a browser open or whatever. The only way it silences is if I close every application and just leave it at the Windows desktop for a while (or if I turn it off!)

I know dust build up can occur but I've had a look through the vent and can't notice anything untoward. Although I appreciate it may be hard to see from the outside, I don't really want to be opening the case yet.

I was wondering if this was normal for a laptop in this age range? My previous laptop, another Acer, didn't start getting noisy constantly until the end of its days (and that was in it's 4th-5th year)

It's just frustrating that the fan can always be heard even when doing very little in Windows. I also can't see any rogue processes taking up resources.

I've changed my laptop habits a lot since thi... Read more

A:Acer V5-571 laptop - 9 months old yet becoming very noisy

Only thing I can think of at the moment is to use a program similar to CPUZ and check the temperatures at various time.check temp when first started as that should be lowest and listen to noise then use something a bit cpu intensive like a photo edit and again check temp and noise. if temp going up with little cpu action and noisy chances are it it dust. when I first cleaned mine I used a can of air duster thru the vent holes to stir dust up a bit and a vac to suck it out. Hold with vent holes downwards.

Only other way is to get a set of headphones and play your favourite track at max volume

I just purchased a new notebook computer. The hard drive seems to be constantly making an annoying sound (like several times per minute) even when the HD isn't really active. It sounds like a noisy CD drive switching tracks or struggling to read a disc. It's not absurdly loud, but it can still be easily heard from about 20 ft away in a quiet room. What is this noise?

I called for a replacement, but its going to take weeks to get it, and I fear the new laptop might have the same problem. I have never heard a laptop make noise like this before.

A:Noisy hard drive on new laptop

It's pretty hard to conclude anything from what you have said. How can you be sure it is the hard drive, expecially when you say that "the HD isn't really active"? There is really no time when a machine is running that the hard drive is not active. Data is being exchanged at all times.

Are there any CD's in the bay? Does the cooling fan make a distinctly different noise? How does the drive light act during the times you hear this noise?

Not sure if you guys can help but I will ask anyway, I have a Toshiba Equium A210 laptop and its making a repeated clicking noise from the speakers. When you first turn the laptop on it is quiet but within 30secs it starts clicking, initially quite slow then it speeds up until its almost a continuous noise. I have muted the speakers and disabled the sound card but still no success. I have tried connected a headset but still the clicking, I have also noticed that if I am in the BIOS it is clicking there as well.
I feel that its probably dodgy speakers but what do you guys think.

A:Noisy laptop - Toshiba Equium A210

It sounds more like a fan to me tbh.

Has it been dropped, or squashed, or had a heavy impact with anything recently?

Its probably the fan hitting the shroud inside the case, and definitely needs a quick inspection to see the cause before using further, as the fan failing could destroy it.

Hey guys,

I'm really stuck: I bought a brand new Dell Inspiron 8600 not even 3 months ago and lately i've been having these weird problems.

ever since i started using the computer, the HDD used to kick in at some point, you could hear it acelerate normally. i figured it is because it is an 80 GB one that sometimes just needs to spin some more.

recently, however, it makes really strange and load cracking noises all of a sudden...and my applications run slow when it does that, sometimes even pause. like the HDD ist lost and doesn't know where it's reading stuff from. 2 days ago, windows xp just shut down in a situation like this, i got a blue screen telling me to switch of caching and shadowing in bios (which i didn't find in there) and then it said : dumping physical memory.

this has happened again twice just today. i really don't know what's going on...i didn't install any new hardware or software, as the blue screen suggests.

do you have any ideas? Thanks for your help!!!

Oh, i should say: could it be that it's simpy due to the fact that my computer has been running a lot lately? that it's maybe overheating or something like that? before the errors today, i kept it running for about 3 days now...

Number of the laptop and therefore not able to get support or warrenty status. My dauther did not wnat to hurt my feelings and wanted to return the laptop, but I hope HP can fix this form me. THanks,

HP Employee.

Please can someone help? My laptop has been slow, noisy and basically unusable for about a year, to the point that I have just stopped using it altogether, until today. It is slow to load, the internet is slow, I can only enter my password in safe mode and I'm up to date on virus checks and have deleted so much it's almost empty. Short of throwing this useless piece of metal out the window, I'm lost for ideas! Any suggestions would be great. Thank you.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version A13) dates from 2009.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.Please don't use CCleaner while we're troubleshooting.  It'll delete some of the reports/files that we use. There is a driver named uroogb.sys (in C:\Windows\System32\drivers) that isn't found elsewhere in the system.Could you please have a look at it's properties and see if there's any information on it that we don't have?I also searched Google for it and there's no record of a driver by that name there. This is suspicious and you should perform an antimalware scan with another antivirus to ensure that you're not infected. If infected, I'd suggest posting over in the Am I Infected forum:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/Please read the pinned topics at the top of the forum for instructions on how to post there.  Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! : NOTE:  I do not expect that you will find updates for the CyberLink, FCD Driver, the JMicron RAID Driver, or the Sonic CD/DVD d... A:IE Extremly hijacked

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Please move hijackthis.exe into a permanent folder.

To create a permanent folder click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar click on File, New, Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder.
Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here.
Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido
It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.
Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.
Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to in safe mode.
Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:
Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to remove files, click OK
When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
Save the report to your desktop
Reboot to normal mode.

Post a new HijackThis log and the log from Ewido.

RAM: 2815 MbClick to expand...

3GB of RAM would be 3072MB, video is using 256MB (1MB unaccounted for)
You need to increase the RAM to 4GB. Even though a 32 bit version of Windows can only use about 3.5MB, you will notice the increse.
I've made sure all our Windows 7 computers are running 4GB. I've talked a friend into buying more RAM so two of his slow computers would be peppier. He has noticed the difference.

As far as Java, MS discontinued java with Windows 2000. You should not have MS JVM on a windows 7 computer.

Hello, I am having some rather serious issues with my computer and my friend advised me to post a thread here.

Last night I was playing some Il-2 multiplay with my friends, and then I suddenly got a "C+++ Windows Visual library error" then an immediate black screen and a freeze. So I hard rebooted my system and was greated by a pixelated windows splash screen with several lines of dots running up and down the screen at random intervals. After trying to reboot several times to no avail, I entered BIOS and restored my computer to factory settings and then it booted back into regular XP. Keep in mind that this entire time there where lines and dots randomly placed on the screen. Thinking I had fixed the problem I went and played some Bf1942 where I got another graphics error and then a physical memory dump. After a quick restart I again tryed Il-2, only to have graphics artifacts and glitches, I exited the game and then my computer gave me a nice black screen. At this point I left it until today and went to bed. Earlier this afternoon I booted up to the same pixelated windows screen, and then a black screen where I couldnt load Xp. I took the video in and out and it seemed to fix the problem...for the moment. Being the absolute genious I am, I figured to test Il-2 again, only to have the same C+++ error and then a black screen/crash. However this time neither restoring settings or pulling the card in and out would work. I managed to get it to load into s... Read more

A:Extremly odd windows issue

My guess is that the Video Card is fried, and it may have corrupted some other data on the way out. Best thing to do is borrow a Video Card and see if that solves your Video problems, but don't be suprised if certain apps (and maybe even Windows itself) fail to fuction properly.

Another angle is to install your Video Card in another computer and see if it works or not. Between these two, you should have a pretty good idea of what you are dealing with.
