"remove extracted files from archive"

Q: "remove extracted files from archive"

When extracting files (I use PowerDesk), a checkbox for "remove extracted files from archive" is an option. What does this do? Should I check or un-check?

Preferred Solution: "remove extracted files from archive"

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. Last year I installed one utility called Wrye Bash used to manage and install mods for the game Oblivion. This particular utility is distributed as a .zip archive, it has no installer. The installation instructions tell to simply extract the archive to the same installation folder where the game was installed. This archive contains folders and subfolders within it. Since July last year, I haven't used or updated Wrye Bash, and 75 new versions were released! Now I'd like to uninstall it first before installing the new version. Uninstalling wouldn't be necessary if the files to be extracted from the new archive overwrote all the files extracted earlier from the old version archive, but this doesn't happen for all the files: some of them are not overwritten. This brings me to this forum.

I'd like to know if there's any way to automatically uninstall (delete) all the files extracted from an archive. There must be a simple way to achieve this I'm not aware of. The hard way would be in Windows explorer to select each and every file in the destination directory which was extracted there from the archive, and then delete them. Is there any easier way to do this? Basically, I wish to know if there's any way to undo the extracting procedure, by automatically removing the files which were extracted to the destination directory.

I was hoping that converting the original .zip archive to a SFX archive with WinRar, I could then use this .exe SFX archive both to install (extract... Read more

"The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"

I've been getting this message anytime I try to open any ".exe" file. Every other file on my computer opens fine except for the ".exe" files. I can't open RealPlayer, but I can open a RealPlayer video (which automatically opens RealPlayer) and it works fine. I have a video clip saved as an HTM File, which opens my web browser, but I can't manually open Firefox or Internet Explorer by themselves. I'm sure this has to be a virus, but none of my virus programs can be opened or run. Does anyone know of a way to fix this?

I tried downloading Spybot from the web and just replacing the .exe file, but I can't even run the installer program. So, does that mean something's wrong with the way the computer reads .exe files and not the actual files themselves? Also, obviously I can't run HiJackThis either. I'd be happy with pretty much any solution that doesn't involve wiping my hard drive. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

I originally posted this in the HJT forum, but because I can't run HJT, I was told I've been "declared clean" and should post here instead.

I tried running the various anti-virus programs listed on the HJT forums directly from their homepages, which worked, but none of them apparently have found the correct virus, or it's not a virus that's causing my problem since I'm still getting the above error ... Read more

i want to know how to remove hidden files in thew usb drive or pendrive...

coz when i open the usb drive, it is blank(empty without any file) but when i scane it with my antivirus software, my software identify some files(not infected by virus) that are in the pendrive.....

from here i get to know tht there are some hidden files in my pendrive(usbport) but how to deleted it when it doesnt display when i click the drive...

help me,

A:remove hidden files in "USB drive"/ "pendrive"

The files may be tagged as hidden or system files. Assuming you are using some version of MS-Windows on your computer, there are options for Windows Explorer to hide or show certain file types. Setting the options to show all files may cause the files on the drive to appear.

I would use caution when attempting to remove files from the drive. There may be a chance the files are needed for proper operation of the drive.

Hey everyone,

have asked me to post on these forms. Can someone please help me with this? I am not able to move forward because the error is pretty generic and doesn't give any additional details.

Hi all,

So I'm kind of stuck.. I currently have the problem where I am in an endless cycle of "loading files" -> "Windows Boot Manager" (see: How To Boot Into Safe Mode On Windows 8 (The Easy Way)).
I have tried to load all of the options -- and none successfully load.
I also end up at a OneKey Recovery as well.. unfortunately, the laptop does not have initial backup or user backup images.
I have a Windows 8 CD for repairing purposes.. however, I cannot load the BIOS/UEFI to change the boot order to load the optical drives first. I have also tried to remove the CMOS battery to fix it.. did not work. .
Also - Windows Boot Manager:
Windows Setup [EMS Enabled] -- does not load properly (leads to OneKey Recovery) Safe Mode (does not load properly) Safe Mode with Networking (does not load properly) Safe Mode with Command Prompt (doesn't load - tries to boot and load all files onto partition that is too small.. can't change partition?)
Enable Boot Logging Enable Low-Resolution Video Debugging MOde Disable automatic restart on system failure Disable Driver Signature Enforcement Display Early Launch Anti-Malware Driver
Start Windows Normally
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

How can I permanently REMOVE files found in the "Lost" folder of MAGIC RECOVERY, to decrease drive size?

I had plenty of movies in a external hard drive (LaCie trademark). One day I couldn't see anymore the folder containing all these movies, it misteriously dissapeared from the screen, but the size of the external hard drive remained unchanged!!

With Magic Recovery Pro 3.2 I found that folder including all movies, in the "Lost"- items folder.

I can select one movie and save it to another drive (e.g. C:\, D:\...), but what I want also is removing (deleting) some files from the Lost folder, in order to liberate some space from my external hard drive.

Does anyone know how to do it?

If it's not posible to do it with Magic Recovery, but it's posible with another software, please tell me the name .

thanks in advance!

Hi all ... My last couple of NAV scans have identified three "at risk" items it characterizes as "packed adware." The files are

Dc10.exe
Dc9.exe
Dc19.exe

And they are all apparently in the "Recyclers" folder. The NAV is USELESS on removing these files; the instructions just say to update the definitions (already done). I contacted NAV through the site and got a repeat of this useless advice.

The last time this happened I went and manually found the "Recyclers" folder and manually deleted the offending files. But now I can't seem to find the Recyclers folder at all, and a Windows search for these files comes up blank.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Download SDFix from here and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer

After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.

In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the script.

It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.

Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.

Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).

Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum.

Hi guys!
I'm using the KAV 2014 to scan my malware collection.
I pretend only scan the files and save a log file.
For that I created a bat file with the following line:

avp.com SCAN /i0 /fa /R:log.txt "F:\CollectionFolder"

It works perfectly but, for all infected and skipped file, the kav adds a line in the log file, for example:

...
2016-09-24 10:56:20 F:\VX\0\00\00081f6990f4102e46665ad838586e00 suspicion HEUR:Trojan.Win32.Generic
2016-09-24 10:56:20 F:\VX\0\00\00081f6990f4102e46665ad838586e00 skipped
2016-09-24 10:56:21 F:\VX\0\00\00082cd9eb6f953e1deef8aa393177b5 detected Trojan.Win32.Obfuscated.gen
2016-09-24 10:56:21 F:\VX\0\00\00082cd9eb6f953e1deef8aa393177b5 skipped
...

As you can see, for each infected file there is another line for "skip". Because of this, the log file will have almost twice the size and it makes the scan process slowdown a little, since it will request twice for write in disk.

I would like to know if anyone knows how to avoid that "skipped" line. Of course I could write a Python script for remove that but, I want to KAV creates a clean log as possible.

thanks in advance.

hi guys.

totally new here.

i just had to format my HDD and it's win XP and it's about time i install win 7.

the windows i got from the tech guy at the computer shop was win 7 64 bit. i thought it was 32 bit, as a matter of fact.

for reasons i won't tell here, just because it's irrelevant andd too long) i installed win7 first on HDD "D:" and after i backup up a few files i installed win7 AGAIN but on HDD "C:", where i want it to stay.
now i want to REMOVE the folder "windows" i have on "d:" and keep the same folder on "C:". since my windows is running from c: (i assume) i figured it shouldnt be a problem to delete the folder in d: but apparently i can't no matter what i do.
i tried "unlocker" (which worked like magic on XP but does didly squat on win7 64) and i also tried "lock hunter" to no avail.

i managed to delete the USERS folder andd even change the "windows" name to "disabled-windows" but i can't delete that folder. i need those 6GB of space :(

1) how can i remove this folder from D: without formatting it?!?!
also, upgrading to 64bit OS was done by mistake. i didnt know i am installing 64bit OS.
i am kinda scared that many softwares and games will not run or give me a lot of issues with this type of OS.

2) what can i do to avoid conflicts and stuff malfunctioning in the future?

3) what are the benefits of a 64bit OS? i have 4GB of ram, btw.

thanks a bunch.

A:How to remove a "windows" folder and its files?

Hello,

First, disconnect the D drive and reboot; make sure your current installation is not dependent on that drive in any way, before proceeding with the rest of this post.

With the D drive attached, boot up your Windows installation DVD, and select "repair my computer". Open a command prompt, and enter the following:
Code:
diskpart
list vol
Note the letter of your current D drive; make sure it has not changed letters. Substitute that letter for D in the command below:
Code:
exit // exits diskpart

del d:\windows /f
That should do the trick.

To be safe, disconnect your C drive before doing that, to avoid any possibility of accidentally deleting the Windows folder on your C drive.

A 64-bit OS is one compatible with a 64-bit processor. Since almost all processors these days are 64-bit compatible, the only practical difference we see these days is how much RAM each can handle. With a 32-bit OS and 4GB of RAM, you might not be able to use about half a GB of it. I recommend the 64-bit version, in case you ever want to upgrade.

I just got done using the MS fix it tool to remedy the compress old files hang that occured when you used the disk clean up tool . There were about 20k old files that no matter how many times you ran disk clean up they were never compressed ...as a matter of fact at times I would actually see an "Increase" in files listed in the compress old files line AFTER I did selected "compress old files" clean!!!

So I used the MS fix it tool to solve the problem and ....you guessed it the tool removed the option for "compress old files" ! Now it is no longer there. MS states that they deleted this option to prevent the hang issue. But this is why I want to know whether these old files are actually being compressed when i use the defrag and it says "compacting files" ..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Is "compacting" files in defrag the same as "compressing old files" in disk clean up?

Hi

The 'compressing files' referred to by a defragmenter is the process of moving the files it has put together to the start of the drive.

When defragmenting files, it moves the pieces of the file to an empty space further into the drive. Once it has done this to all the files, it moves them back to the start of the drive as this is generally the fastest part.

This doesn't compress files like the option in disk clean up.

Afternoon, I'm a bit boggled by this issue we are having on a PC at our office. It seems that the PC normally will boot up and the memory usage will be low 2 GB / 16 GB until 10-12 minutes go by then it shoots up 11 GB / 16 GB. It's really odd and I can't explain it, since no applications are started.

I took it upon myself and downloaded RamMap. Using RamMap I was able to determine that the memory is caused by "mapped files" under "file summary" I can see the two large files which are to blame. But I'm not able delete these currently until tomorrow to confirm the user doesn't need them.

What I'm looking for is an answer as to why these files seem to be singled out? Thanks in advance. I've included a screenshot to the RamMap findings and my understanding with how memory is handled is limited.

EDIT - I can see now only 1 large file is being selected for "mapped file".

safe to assume its impossible to remove the "open" and the "merge" entries from the context menu? I figure if i want to open or merge them i would simply double click. Clutter and redundency in this vein dont suit me :P

A:remove the "open" and "merge" entries from context menu?

Open I don't think so, Merge sounds like it is added by a 3rd party program, and likely can be removed. Have a look at ShellMenuvVew and ShellExView from NirSoft. You can remove entries with both. But Open will not be listed, and I have seen no way to remove it. A Guy

I need help!

A:Urgent help needed! - "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"

download and extract This zip file. Inside will be a registry file called xp_exe_fix.reg. Double click that file and allow it to merge with the registry when prompted. Try to run HijackThis again and post a log for review.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Hi all,

I'm puzzling this one. In the folder options when I choose 'view' the radio button to show the hidden files is missing. I've already checked the registry at the HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Advanced/Hidden

and everything seems ok (value for 'Type' is 'group' etc.). Using the XP tweak (Kelly's corner #155) shows the hidden files, but the button still missing.

Another thing that I encountered with was that from the start menu the "Help and Support" not working. Again, the registry seems fine, and the process is activated (started). This came up when I tried to use system restore option - with no success.

Virus scan didn't find alerts of any kind

To make a long story short- below is the log file of HiJackThis. Please review it and reply if you see something to be concerned with for repairing my computer.

A:missing "show hidden files" button + "Help and Support" not working from start menu

Ok I found the answer (after quite a lot searching), as follows:

1. for the 'Hidden files' radio button - I used methods 1 and 2 from here-
http://www.technize.com/2007/05/13/s...s-not-working/

2. for the helpcenter I just reinstalled it as described here -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rebuildhelp.htm
note that the file 'dataspec.xml' is needed to be available for this, and it can't be done directly from the XP CD. The thing that worked for me was to insert the XP CD, and use the file that in my computer (C:\) and afterwards another file on the CD.

Again, all this happened with no virus detection, so I believe that there is no infection. However, if someone has remarks on the HiJackThis log I've put, feel free to add them.

Have a nice day,

Fitch.

hello, let's just get to the point, i had this problem recently where my pc can load windows, it keep looping
pc's on - booting - then "Windows Loading Files" - restart
it's infinite i don't know what to do, i don't have a cd rom, and i can't reinstall my windows from USB because every time i tried it says : "disk error" or "disk read error"
even after i burn it to USB correctly, tried this on other pc and USB can load just fine.
i'm thinking, it's something wrong with my boot system in System Reserved, is there anyway i can do to fix this?

Hi,

Have you tried changing the boot sequence inside the BIOS?

Normally pressing F2 or F12 on the computer will solve this.

I delete the above items through safe mode but they re-appear.

A:NO DESKTOP after booting up & SYSTEM RESTORE "Incomplete" & "Strange" Temp Files

Usually when the machine has a "blank" desktop, the boot/startup process has been interupted or is frozen to before Explorer is launched.

You can launch Explorer manually be navigating C:\Windows and double-clicking "Explorer".

If successful, do the following:

Start>Run>(type) "msconfig" and turn off all non-MS services and all startups.

Then, Start>Run>(type) "cmd", and at the command prompt type "chkdsk /f" and schedule a chkdsk to run on next reboot.

Reboot system and report results.

This is a PC which has it's Downloads User subfolder linked to Storage E, which seems functional except that now no .exe can be run without receiving the following error:

Strange that it refers to 7zip which is not the default program here for .zip files and the Firefox .exe being run in screenie is not a .zip; stranger still the error persists even when 7zip is uninstalled.

If you move the .exe to the root it will run fine, causing me to believe that either corruption or a recent change has caused installer to look for temp file on same partition as .exe.

Has a recent Update caused installer to look for temp folder on same partition? This could be a real problem for those who've linked User folders to storage partitions. Anyone else seen this?

A:"Can create temp folder archive" on any .exe

1st let me say this may be out of my box. I see a Default_ZIP regisrty entry in this Downloads folder. Should that be in there? Couldn't this folder be moved to the root without any problem.?
I'm interested due to my wanting to install a SSD with only the OS on it.

Hello,

I've scanned my laptop with SFC four times in this past week, and each scan ended with the same failure to repair specific files. I'm uncertain how to proceed with these corrupted files.

I followed the instructions in the SFC /SCANNOW tutorial; I installed the System Update Readiness Tool (CheckSUR in attachments) after running SFC three times and it managed to find and fix some sort of error. However, the results seem to be the same in the new SFC scan logs.

I also tried obtaining a .iso of Windows 7 home premium from Microsoft's website (Access Denied) to run a repair install, but it will not accept my product key due to it being a pre-installation provided by Samsung.

I do not have a Windows 7 installation disc so I cannot manually replace them like the tutorial suggests.
Also, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I ran the WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab troubleshooter several times as well (dism.txt is in attachments). Every single time it says that two problems were found:
1. Problems installing recent updates (Not fixed)
2. Service registration is missing or corrupt (Fixed)

Additionally, I've recently noticed that my free hard drive space has been decreasing rapidly. In the past two days, it has decreased by 2 or 3 GB, despite not downloading or installing anything. Is this related to my current problem with the corrupted files or something else? I don't know how to find what's eating up my storage space.

Any advice is appreciated,

Thanks.

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

The tech guys on that forum were unable to find the source... Read more
