Preferred Solution: Windows Store can't lunch after instal windows update for Windows 8.1 Pro

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear Sirs,
The following "Updates" were automatically downloaded several days ago:-
KB2604121  Microsoft .NET Framework 4  Important  38.5MB
KB2468871  Microsoft .NET Framework 4  Important  27.5MB
I have tried to instal them, as usual, umpteen times but keep getting "Failed" with Failure
Code 66A.
Other, subsequent "Updates" have, apparently, installed since.
Another oddity is that when I close the computer down I'm given the opportunity to instal
these two "Updates". I accept and watch the process proceed and the computer shut
down. Next time I boot up computer the position is unaltered ie: updates NOT installed !
This has happened time after time. Back to square one !
Will some kind soul tell me, in very simple language, what is happening here (or not!), what I
can do to solve this annoying problem, and how I can complete the installation operation.
Many Thanks,
[email protected]

A:"Windows Update" will NOT instal !!

Hi Graham,
Had a similar problem: I found this answer from Microsoft. I did it and it worked!!
You may follow the steps below and check if it helps you fix the update installation issue.
A. Click on Start and click on Control panel.
B. Go to Program and Features.
C. Scroll down to Microsoft.Net Framework 4 Client Profile, right click it.
D. It will give you a choice of Uninstall/Change, click it.
E. Then, it will give a choice to Repair it, pick Repair it. It will take about 4-10 minutes to repair (with my PC) your experience may vary.
F. When completed, go to your update center, and update it again.
Hope this helps you as well. If not post back.
Good Luck

I am trying to open Windows Update under Settings and it will not load. It's just a blank page where Windows Update usually is. Also, under Settings and Windows Update I can't click on Windows Defender, Backup, Recovery, Activation, or Fore Developers.

Also, I have tried to open the Windows Store and the wheel keeps spinning. That's all it will do.

I can't make a screenshot because I can't get the screenshot to paste in paint.

So basically, the problem is that I can't open anything except for Microsoft Edge which is what I am now because the Windows 10 applications are not working properly.

This is my Desktop PC. It's an Acer XC603G that originally came with Windows 8.1 that was upgraded to Windows 10. (Intel Processor)

For how long has this been happening? Can you use system restore to go back to a time before the problems started?

If not, try running the system file checker to see if things can be corrected. If the results are "found problems but could not correct", then please run it three times, with reboots in-between.

If that doesn't work, the next step would be DISM.

Next after that would be a repair install by doing an in-place upgrade.

p.s. screenshots can be easily made with the snippet feature - search "snip"

Hi All

Newbie to the forum but not windows.

History: Went to install Windows 8.1 update last night. I first installed 8 updates (half of which were Office based) and then rebooted. I then ran the 8.1 update on its own - downloaded and installed without a hitch. Rebooted and all was well, or so I thought. This morning I tried to download some app from the Windows Store, it failed to load with a 0X80072F8F error (see below). I also tried Windows Update only to find that I was getting an error there as well, the same one! So, I decided to roll back my PC to a backup image taken on Monday and go through the whole process once again but first checked that I could access both the Store and Update, both were OK. I installed the 8 or so updates first, rebooted and checked access to the Store and Update again, both were OK. I then downloaded and installed the 8.1 update, rebooted and guess what, lost access to the Store and Update. I downloaded and ran the Windows Update diagnostic tool, that found some errors but was unable to fix them all (see below).

Anyone any ideas?

Hi Guys at SevenForums Im back again(i know you guys are tired of me, lol)! O.K., here goes:

first, I got an alert from the action center saying I have a virus( although i know it would be helpful, i do not remeber the virus' name, sorry), it showed the name, and suggested i remove it. So i downloaded mbam, installed it, updated it, and ran it. it discovered 1 moderate, 3 low risk infections so I removed them all. I ran a quick scan afterwards to confirm the system was clean...and system was clean. ( I also ran a quick scan with VIPRE Internet Security 2013 and found 0 infections)

second, I received a windows update alert saying there were updates available. I figured that would be a good idea right about now to fully update my system with any vulnerability releases, so i let them download, but i always choose when to install them. They completed download and were "ready" for install. so I shutdown the computer so it can install the updates. So far, all textbook stuff right?

Here's where it got tricky...

O.K. so third, it gets to the windows screen, but the login screen never appears just the mouse cursor. I chalk it up to the updates now being configured,...so I wait...and wait...and wait. So now its been 15 min and things are not looking textbook at this point. the display is still showing a black screen and I notice the HDD light is not flashing, so its not crunching. Since no data was being crunched I figured it safe to power down and retry, but the power ... Read more

Okay now, today is October 18th and I've not got a Windows 8.1 update in store yet. I've Installed all the updates that were available for windows, restarted my PC several times but I still don't get it. What could be the reason and how do I get it?

A:Why don't I get a Windows 8.1 Update in store?

Have you checked with any of your friends locally to see if they have the update in the MS store? If not, then it's a problem with your country. If your friends, locally, have it then it could be any number of things....internet blockage, a data cap from your ISP, your computer and it goes on.

Is there something specifically from MS about your Country as to what version of the OS you get to install?

A:update win 8.1 from win 8 without windows store

you can download windows 8.1 setup media > http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...-refresh-media
you can choose to upgrade to windows 8.1 by running Setup.exe from within windows 8
or you can boot from the setup media and do a clean install of windows 8.1 (preferred method)

either way you will knock out the factory windows 8 recovery options

on-disk recovery is an OEM feature as windows does not set up the required image partition or capture the recovery image - so the setup media disk is required..
unless you create a recovery image and a recovery partition..

Hello everybody.

I've got windows 8.1 with the yesterdays update but the problem comes before this update.

Wen I open the Windows Shop, it always on the green screen and does not advance. I've done the following steps: 1 - I did WSReset.exe as administrator but the store is always like this. If you close and re-open the store, I get the same green screen;
2 - I downloaded the tool Windows 8 App Troubleshooter which tells me that I have an outdated graphics driver. Is not true because I have installed the latest version.
3 - UAC is turned on but without success;
4 - I've turned my account as a local account and tried to open the shop but with the same result. I've reverted my account as linked to Microsoft.
5 - I created a new user account and with that account the store opens. I returned to my account and nothing.
6 - Finally I ran the SFC / SCANNOW and gave me this picture.
Does anyone know how I can solve my problem

Thank you, kodiak

A:Do i need to install the windows 8.1 update from store ?

You don't get Windows 8.1 Update from the "Store". It was released through Windows Update.

Have you checked Windows Update for new updates? If updates are listed, look for KB9219355; which is the Windows 8.1 Update. Allow Windows Update to install all the updates shown (if there are any).

Looking at your screenshot, I don't see anything that tells me whether you have it or not. One way to tell if you already have the update, is to go to the Modern (gotta remember it's not Metro) interface and look for a power button and a search button. If you don't see either one, start typing "Windows Update" (without the quotes). If you don't see the buttons and/or can type there, you probably don't have the update.

All Windows Store apps that I have fail when they are automatically updated. Here's what I just got in my event log.

Event ID 20 - Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80070002: OneNote.

When I go into the Store and look at the update it shows the update as having had a problem. I can click on the spinner icon which downloads and installs the app so all is not lost.

I don't have any other problems with Windows Update. Other than Store apps they all automatically install just fine. I've seen lots of various solutions for WU problems but I haven't found one specifically for Windows Store updates. I'm hesitant to try one of these solutions since WU works fine except for Store apps as I mentioned.

Any ideas on getting this working again. I tried clearing the the Store cache but that didn't work. Store updates are not a regular occurrence so seeing if something works might take some time.

A:Windows Store won't open after update this morning

What a nightmare but I think I got somewhere. All can say is NEVER try and update the store like this when open. I tried the tutorial on repairing the store using the BAT file. Just got far worse as store corrupted for all user accounts. Luckily a restore point from last week got me back in business. Although the other users were still corrupt. As they are seldom used I removed these family accounts and later recreated new users for them. All seems ok.

then I changed store updates setting back to auto. I think the store update then silently installed in the background and things seem OK.

Hi, I've tried searching to see if this question/problem has been discussed with no luck. I've been running Vista since April last year and whilst I have little problems with using Windows Media Player, everytime I try and access Winows Media Center, it initially opens but as soon as I task it to open, lets say my pictures file, it closes down with the message "Windows Media Center Store update manager stopped working and was closed." Even when I dont try to open my Media Center, I get the same message sometime after I have started my PC up to do routine tasks. When I searched Microsoft it suggested a hotfix that might cure this warning message but stated it would be included in the SP1 pack. From reviews of the SP1 Beta etc, I doubt that it will as I havent found any reference to my problem. Incidentally I've had this problem since the middle of last year and whilst it didnt cause too much grief I am obviously not getting full value out of my Vista loaded setup. Ultimately I will try a reinstall of Vista (something I have never done before) but I get the feeling that the problem might reoccur when I alsao resinstall the various programmes, Photoshop, Office 2007 etc that may have caused the problem in the first place. Any of you nice people got any idea what might be wrong and alternatives to a reinstall? Incidentally when I access my pictures and click them open into Windows Photo Gallery, this goes smoothly but when I try to access Windows Photo Gal... Read more

I had all sorts of grief on Sunday with this. Had same issue, see this thread Windows Store won't open after update this morning

You could try a system restore to the point before the update and see if that fixes things. MS really knows how to make life difficult. A possible observation is that having the store open when you try to update it might not be a good thing. Different people report different outcomes. But when I got my store back again I noticed the update for the store was pending again. I quickly changed my Store update settings to auto rather than manual and quit the store. After leaving it a while I re-opened the store and the pending update was gone and my version number had updated indicating the update has succeeded silently in the background.

Resulting in greyed out Boxes under internet settings and Under the connections tab Saying "Some settings are managed by your system adminsitrator" . I have gotten it resolved by deleting the values. But now its back again. Also you should know i did full scans with all of the following before posting here those include. Rougekiller, AdwCleaner, Hitman Pro, Avast, Emisoft Security Suite, and Malwarebytes. They Found the general PUP and Malware Which have been removed But there are Values that probably need deleted or changed and I need help finding them I've been browsing for an Answer on why the store was not working for a while until I realized what was going on. Note that Firefox works Fine but Internet explorer and anything Microsoft Related Cannot access the Internet that Includes the store windows update and logging into my Microsoft account.
Oh I've also Ran SFC /Scannow and CCleaner.

Any help would be appreciated

Dear Sir,

I am running Windows 8 & want to upgrade to Windows 8.1 but I don't find any update in Windows Store. Microsoft says you must have KB2871389 update installed to update to Windows 8.1. I installed every update which was in Windows Update, still couldn't update to Windows 8.1. Same problem with Internet Explorer 11.

PC specs under My system.

A:[SOLVED] Couldn't find Windows 8.1 update in store

Chances are the update failed.

Please uninstall the update via Control Panel then Uninstall a Program.

After uninstalled and a restart install the update again:

Download Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2871389) from Official Microsoft Download Center

After yet another restart the Windows 8.1 update should be in the store.

My Windows 8 Pro Store lists 4 available App updates: music, video, games and mail. When I select STORE and chose to update, the apps attempt to download and install the updates. They have failed to update for 4 days now. The error codes are either 0x80070002 OR 0x80246007.

I have previously downloaded and followed the instructions for apps.diagcab, rebooted. Nothing seems to resolve my inability to update these recently released App updates.

I have not installed any new software. My other Apps, including Bing, News and Finance continue to list current updates without any exceptions.

Whenever I attempt to open music, games, video and mail, they fail to open and revert back to START.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is Microsoft aware of this issue and attempting to resolve it? Thank you.

See if clearing the Store cache may be able to help.

I've been having problems with my laptop recently. I actually care less when it comes to updates since it's automatic, but I noticed that it refuses to install any drivers (which means I cannot access any USB drives or install programs that requites drivers) or updates, after searching for solutions on the internet, I found out in a website that said kb2919355 causes component store corruption that is irreparable, which is the update that I have already installed. I've tried repairing with DISM but it all fails, probably because the update causes the component store to corrupt when StartComponentCleanup is triggered.

I want this to be fixed but my restore point is already deleted since it's probably too old (which is weird that I'm having this problem since the update has been installed for months). I don't want to reinstall my Windows either, so what now?

Any help is highly appreciated.

I'm trying to update my current genuine Windows 8.1 home to Windows 10. Unfortunately it fails no matter what method I use. I've tried everything. I think it's due to the fact that my windows apps are broken. Same goes for windows store and pc settings. Upon clicking any of the above I get an icon in the taskbar but clicking on it does not reveal any window. Also live update for the tiles associated with apps does not work.

I've tried already :

1. Automatic repair of windows store and apps with a dedicated microsoft app. Output : "Can't find ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches"

2. Using automatic registry repair tool called Wise Registry cleaner. Rebooted, nothing changed.

3. Ran 'regedit' and tried to access HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\Repository\Packages
Unfortunately, folders 'Repository' and 'Packages' did not exist. Author of the troubleshooting guide available here [FIX] Error "ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches" While Resetting App Cache In Windows 8, 8.1 encouraged readers in comments to create these directories if they don't exist. I did so and established the proper permissions.

4. Accessed command prompt as administrator and typed the following chunk of code :
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml" and got the following err

. Output was :

A:Unable to update Windows 10 due to broken apps and store

Doing it through the forced update will fail. First run the DISM fix, DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

You can also download the ISO, which will allow you to upgrade from your desktop, by going to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 Download the tool, which will download the ESD-ISO, which you can then do the install.

Just installed a clean boot from an ISO I made via the official download and everything is great apart from downloading - its really slow and seems to take ages downloading any upgrades from the Windows update section or even the metro updates ?

What gives any anyone else had this problem - solutions?

A:slow downloads from windows update and app store updates

I am having the same problem. I went to download some apps and hit the update button on the existing apps. That was 3 hours ago and nothing has changed. All the apps still say downloading.....

Any idea why they are not downloading? I have a fairly quick download speed. Hour long episodes download in around 10 minutes.

Just got a refurbished Surface Pro 2 and I feel like the Windows installation might be a bit broken. Done all the usual googlings and every step I make takes me further down a feedback loop of 'computer says no'.
Firstly, if I try to check for updates (in control panel), it gets stuck in a 'checking for updates' loop. I saw one fix was to make sure the date was correct, mine was WAY off, oh how I delighted in the promise of that being the obvious fault - it was not.
The other issue is that the app store thing has never worked. At first it was because the initial Windows set up messed up my attempt to log in using my Microsoft ID, then I rectified that and, like the update issue, it too hung upon trying to start it. I did the fix where you copy and paste this 'Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.XML' into Powershell, but all that did was delete the actual store app.
Store is ok now, no particular reason, just windows update that's broke.
