Do all P50 motherboards have an interface for backlit keyboards?

Q: Do all P50 motherboards have an interface for backlit keyboards?

Can anyone tell me if there is a seperate power connection for the backlit keyboard option on the P50 and is it standard on every board? Is the power and data supplied via one ribbon cable?ThanksGreg

Preferred Solution: Do all P50 motherboards have an interface for backlit keyboards?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It's on the ribbon. You just need to swap the keyboard

Does anyone know WHY the backlit keyboards aren't supported on the L-series?  I received (as a gift) what is supposed to be a backlit keyboard that 'fits' the L540.  The connectors on my stock keyboard and the backlit keyboard appear to be exactly the same.  The backlit keyboards are regularly sold online as fitting the L series (which they do, as I'm typing on it now).  If it's software, I'm sure that there's some way to get support.  If it's hardware, I don't see where the difference is. Thanks!

I have heard that non-backlit keyboards i.e. standard keyboards are anti-microbial and backlit keyboards are not. Is this true? I can't find any official documentation for this. Louis Rossman from Youtube goes on about this. I don't have any reason to not trust him, but wanted to know if this has changed. Specifically I interested in T580, but I think it will most probably apply to all ThinkPads.

As the title says, why are only backlit keyboards only available on the top and near top of the range devices? I'm in the market for an ultrabook laptop that doesn't cost an arm and a leg with a backlit keyboard but I'm finding it really hard to do this. Especially for the smaller devices, like 11.6" screens. I thought I found something perfect in the Yoga 710 11.6" but no backlinghting.... where as the larger screen size variation does have backlighting. I just find it very stange that being able to see your keyboard in the dark or dim light is obviously seen as a privilage for the people who buy high end. My uses would be videos, wordprcessing, movies, browsing the web, so for me it's hard to justify buying a 1000 i7 laptop, when all I need is a i3, or m3 processor, no graphics card etc.... but I would like a keyboard I can use in the dark. Again, I think it's strange, especially since you can buy really cheap and decent bluetooth keyboards on Amazon for just 20.  Why don't manufacturers put backlit keyboards on <500 machines? Definitely stuck for choice.

A:Backlit Keyboards Only on Premium Products. Why?

millar14 wrote:

Why don't manufacturers put backlit keyboards on <500 machines? Definitely stuck for choice.

1. Because a backlit keyboard costs the manufacturer more than a non-backlit keyboard. The market is very competitive at the entry level. At the manufacturing level every cent counts because cents become dollars/pounds/euros at the retail level.

2. The manufacturer wants to differentiate entry level from mid and high end models. Otherwise who would pay two or three times the price of entry level to buy them? As a result every feature that's exclusive to the higher range models, regardless of how expensive it is to build, helps them command a higher price.

This is no different from, say, automobiles. It wasn't that long ago that in order to get a USB port or Bluetooth connectivity in a car you had to buy a high trim level that cost 100s of dollars/pounds/euros more. This even though a USB port ads a trifling to the cost of a car.

Is my laptop compatible with backlit keyboards? Product Name: HP Pavilion 15-ab203txOperating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)MotherBoardnModel : 80A4 Hi , I am looking to see if i can replace the keyboard on my laptop to a backlit version.   Does anyone know for sure if this model of laptop can be upgraded to a backlit keyboard and if you know the part number? Many thanks in advance. Cm Swarnan...

A:Is my laptop compatible with backlit keyboards?

Yes, but see page 23 and forward. There are backlit and non-backlit keyboard options but HP only sells it as part of a whole top cover.  Your Service Manual What country do you live in and perhaps we can help you find just the keyboard but installing it in your top cover is not easy and HP provides no instructions. You could source the whole top cover from HP but it is going to be expensive and a bit involved to install. If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

A:Can I replace my non backlit keyboard with a backlit keyboar...

OK here is the Service Manual: Manual The keyboards are not sold by HP as a separate part: only sold with the whole top cover. See p. 20 The Manual does not list any keyboard/top cover as having a backlight. However, the keyboard map on p. 15 shows the f5 action key as activating a backlight on "select models".  From this I gather that there is a place on the motherboard to connect a backlight cable if the keyboard has one. However, extracting the old keyboard from the top cover and replacing it with just the replacement keyboard is not easy and there are no directions in the Manual for that procedure. I would want to see one of these alleged backlit keyboards. Bottom line, it is possible, but I would be leery. Do you have an f5 action key with the backlight symbol on it? Have you tried it to see if maybe your keyboard is backlit? If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Also, I've been reading that people have problems setting the time for M6800 backlit kb (as there is no app for it) and they were using older version of Dell Enhancement Pack intended for M6700. If a replacement for my situation is technically possible, I would also appreciate a solution for controlling/configuring the light on the keyboard.

I just got a T470. Excellent computer! I got the Core i7-7600U model with 4gb of memory and a 500gb non-SSD hard disk (T470 20HDCTO1WW, ordered directly from Lenovo). The 2TB SSD and 32GB RAM I got from Crucial work without problem (yes, I ran a memory tester) ? although, yes, it?s a moderate pain to take off the back panel (even if you have a special plastic tool for doing so). It?s a really great laptop; I like how clear and bright the display is as well as how fast it runs. That said, on to my question: I got the model with the non-backlit keyboard. Is is possible to upgrade this model to have a backlit keyboard? Here is the information I have gotten from my research: * The dealers selling T470 backlit keyboards warn that it may not be possible to get the backlight to work if the motherboard does not support it (for example, https://www.amazon.com/ThinkPad-01AX569-SN20L72890-Backlit-Keyboard/dp/B0727S1H14/ where they claim ?Please check whether your laptop can support backlit keyboard or not before placing the order, if can not, the backlit function of our keyboard will not work!? or https://www.amazon.com/CHNASAWE-Replacement-Backlit-Keyboard-Thinkpad/dp/B071KWWW21/ with a similar ?If your original/old keyboard does not have the backlit, this keyboard backlit will not work.? warning) * There is nothing in Lenovo?s T470 service manual at https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/pubs/t470/html_en/index_en.html#Replacing_t... Does each interface has to be in its own project or is it possible to build multiple interfaces in one project?

Keep in mind that every system is different, even with the same OS and hardware so others problems may not reflect yours. If you ever want to revert to your older style (at present) then all you have to do is uninstall this pack.

When using interface two there %0 ping loss on all 4 cameras but only Camera 4 has video the other 3 cameras have no video. That may be a DVR software issue but not positive.

If your computer is a "desktop" computer, it should be a "no-brainer".The USB port on your computer would supply power to the keyboard to run the back-lights. But, since you have a notebook, you'll have to find a keyboard that physically matches the size of your current keyboard, and then hope that the notebook's motherboard will supply electrical power to the back-lights.This sounds like a tough task!  From:  http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04472797.pdf >>  Full-sized spill-resistant keyboard; optional back-lit keyboard keeps you productive in low-light settings lists that such an option is available, or maybe, was available when this model was first manufactured. From: http://h20628.www2.hp.com/km-ext/kmcsdirect/emr_na-c04551620-2.pdf Keyboard with backlight and pointing sick for use only on HP EliteBook 850 G2 Notebook PC and HP EliteBook 750 G2 Notebook PC computer models (includes backlight, keyboard, and pointing stick cables):       For use in Canada776475-DB1

You don't. XP doesn't actually have a keyboard driver. It interprets commands from the BIOS, which is what actually reads the keyboard. Unfortunately, regardless of whether you use 1 or 5 keyboards, they send the same signal. While XP can detect special keys, the standard 104 come from the BIOS.
