Sync issues with iPod Touch...

Q: Sync issues with iPod Touch...

I don't mean to SPAM this board with the same issue that othyers have previously reported and discussed but this iPod sync issue doesn't seem to ever get solved in any of the threads that I have read.

I've seen this problem reported hundreds of times and almost always the symptoms are reported slightly differently. I think the reason is that the storage device that the sync software is trying to access is not actually the iPod and the error the user gets is based on what kind of device they have installed that is "in the way".

I have this problem when I connect to an external WD My Book (e-Sata) and it has an assigned drive letter D:. I disconnect the external drive and the iPod instantly syncs successfully. I aslo have the issue since installing my USB-connected HP 6500 All-in-One and it used drive letter D: for it's internal card reader. In either case I can get the iPod to connect and successfully sync just by disconnecting the conflicting device. If I have either one of them on then the sync process just hangs or [sometimes] gives me a device-related error. The iTunes log file specifically says that it is attempting to access an invalid/un-recognized device.

I tried changing the drive letter assignment of the external drive and that worked. When I connected the iPod Touch it immediately brought up iTunes and synced. However, if I change the drive letter assignment of the printer's card reader -- the only DLA associated with the printer that I can find -- it does not solve the whole problem. The printer then begins to give me a printer scanner error.

There is no issue between the external drive and the all-in-one printer if the Apple software is not installed.

It's pretty clear to me that the iPod/iTunes installation will assign a device id that is already being used. It's also clear that when other devices are installed after the iPod they do not detect the drive assignment already in use by the iPod.

I just don't know how to get that last little bit of absolute confirmation. The iPod Touch [by design] does not show up on the drive list when connected like the older iPods did and when I look in Device Manager it just shows it as a portable device without a DLA.

What I need to be able to do is to confirm the device access assignments for all of the installed devices. Does anyone know how I can do that?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Is there anyone here who has an iPod Touch and an All-in-One, preferrably an HP All-in-One, printer working successfully together on a desktop machine of any type and Windows OS?

I would love to hear from you if you do.

I keep plugging away. Yesterday I started with a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit build with just the HP 6500 All-in-One and the printer and all of its functions were working perfectly. I plugged in a Sony Video Cam via a 1394 connection and it found and loaded the driver and popped up the dialog to capture the video. The popup occurred just before another popup informed me that the HP 6500 had gone offline. I then turned the camera off and the printer came back on line. I removed the vid cam driver and left the camera off.

Then I plugged in the iPod, after having installed the newest 64 bit version of iTunes, and it detected the device but wouldn't complete the driver installation. I powered down the HP 6500 and the iPod installation completed.

I then turned the printer on and it appeared to work but the iPod wouldn't complete the sync process unless I turned the printer off.

Then I changed the drive letter of the HP all-in-one from "E:" to "G:" and rebooted and it appeared that everything was working. I brought the scanner up but didn't actually scan anything but, still, no disconnect messages. Finally, success I thought.

Today my daughter tried to send a fax from the computer. It started the scan, stopped after only partially scanning and said that the printer was disconnected.

She then rebooted and tried to scan a photo and it did essentailly the same thing -- a partial scan, froze, and then reported the printer offline.

Sigh...

A:Cant sync my ipod touch??

i can't stand itunes. i tried installing the latest version on Windows 7 x64 and it screwed up my mediamonkey somehow to where it would error on startup. itunes is a giant heap of bloatware crap that keeps getting more and more bloated with all of it's startup services and quicktime built in. i was going to use it to synch photos since mediamonkey will only synchs music to my ipod. screw it, i uninstalled the whole thing and my mediamonkey started working fine again, go figure. mediamonkey is much better at synching your music, you just won't get the photo support.

Anybody out there know of a "fix" for iTunes and Windows 8.1? Can't sync my iPod Touch (3rd gen.) at all, and now iTunes simply shuts down even after double-clicking on the icon on my desktop (can't access my Library).
PC is an HP, less than two years old; always worked before (likely the upgrade to .1 is the cause of all this!).
Thanks!

A:8.1 and iTunes Cannot sync iPod Touch (3rd gen.)

I have the iPod classic (80gig, circa 2009) and it's syncing fine with the latest version of iTunes (11.4.0.18). This is under Windows 8.1 with all the updates. Point being I don't think it's a compatibility issue.

If possible you can try resetting the iPod from within the iPod itself by going to Settings, and then clicking Reset Settings, and see if that works.

Let us know.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I figured it's the most appropriate for the situation at hand. I have a 3rd generation iPod touch, and I've been using it mostly to listen to video podcasts. In the past, I've had no problem syncing certain episodes of podcasts onto my iPod touch, minus a few podcasts which suddenly refused to sync for whatever reason. Ever since the latest iTunes update, however, I CANNOT sync any new episodes of ANY podcasts onto my iPod touch at all. Any episodes before the update, I can sync on and off my iPod with no problems, but anything after is a problem. I've tried restoring my iPod, and nothing changes that. I even completely uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, and the problem persists. Please advise.

Kay so I have Windows 7 64-bit and am using iTunes version 9.0.2.25.
My 8GB iPod Nano syncs fine, Windows 7 recognizes it as an iPod Nano when I check "Devices and Printers". It works with iTunes, opens up right away as it's supposed to and I can put music on it.

Now my 32GB iPod Touch is a different matter. Using the same usb port and cable, I plug in my iPod Touch and iTunes opens and attempts to sync. Eventually, it stops syncing, then I see it in iTunes as my what I named it, capacity at the top is 29.28 GB. Weird thing, at the bottom, capacity is only 4 GB (about 2 GB left)!?!?

Then I check "Devices and Printers" and it shows under "Unspecified" - Apple Mobile Device USB Drive. Under properties I see model says "iPod". It doesn't show any errors with it, other than the fact this isn't how it shows up for my iPod Nano, and I believe it's not syncing correctly. It charges fine, by the way, while plugged in.

iTunes still shows my iPod Touch attached, I can see all the files and music on it, but it won't sync or transfer any new files.

I'd like to get this working properly. Any suggestions?

I installed Windows XP SP3 "small" version (200+MB). Following that installation whenever I try to sync my iPod, iTunes opens and immediately goes into "not responding" mode until I disconnect the iPod at which point iTunes immediately resumes "running" mode. The iPod shows up in Device Manager as an "Apple iPod" under Disk Drives, and as a "USB Mass Storage Device" under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. It does not show up in Disk Management or in Windows Explorer. My other USB devices seem to be functioning normally. The iPod functions normally in standalone mode. I've since done a system restore to roll back the "small" SP3 and I've installed the 550+MB version in its place. That seems to have corrected all the problems that began with the original XP SP3 installation except the iPod recognition/sync problem. Suggestions? Thoughts? Thanks.

I am having problems with the Windows XP Pro freezing up completely within moments of starting synchronization between iPod and iTunes.
The itunes version is 9.0 and iPod Touch is 3.1.1
The problem started happening when the iPod was initially upgraded to 3.1.1 and the upgrade process did not go through correctly and the iPod went into a restore mode. After that everytime i tried to restore/sync the iPod on this desktop PC the system freezes and the only way out is a hard reboot.

I am able to use the iPod on my laptop with the same OS - Win XP Pro on same iTunes verison 9.0. I was able to completely restore the iPod on the laptop and am able to synchronize it just fine. I though this might be an iTunes 9.0 issue but i even downgraded it to 8.x on by desktop PC but the freeze still happens when i start to sync.

I need some guidance to troubleshoot this issue. Right now i am clueless as to what to look for. I have even tried multiple USB ports but no luck.

Greetings Skambale,I might have an idea for you... Your situation somehow reminds me of an iPhone update issue that occurred here a month or so ago. I just wonder if this could help you too.Head to this page...http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275I realize it doesn't discuss your particular issue, but...Check out the section that says:>>If the issue is resolved by a new userWhen a restore issue is specific to a user, it is likely due to an unusable .ipsw file. iTunes uses "ipsw" files to restore your iPod or iPhone. Hey guys =}

My boyfriend just gave me his old 30gb 5th gen ipod and I'm having troubles syncing music.

When I first tried syncing a playlist I got an error message that read (more or less): "ipod cannot be updated. The required file cannot be found".

So after trying to restore I recieved this message: "The iPod cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (1418)."

The ipod itself seems frozen when I eject it using itunes (it displays the "do not disconnect" screen until I finally give up and restart it). Not sure if that means anything but I guess I'll put it out there since my guess is something's wrong with the ipod. I think this because he had to send this back to apple to get fixed in the past (the original problem being that it froze and itunes kept saying to restore over and over when it was connected). He just got it back in the mail. He also purchased another (same model) used ipod and used itunes on this same pc today and his worked fine. My sister also has a nano she updates with this pc and that works fine too. Everyone's walking around with earbuds playing their favorite tunes but me.
Anyway, here are some things I've tried after browsing the apple site (which is either fairly useless or I just can't navigate it properly):

- Uninstalled itunes, quicktime and other apple software. Restarted, reinstalled, restarted again. Open itunes and had no luck.

- Moved to a USB slot in the back of the pc inst... Read more

Can I sync back from my ipod (nano 6th gen.) to iTunes?

When preparing to have my hard drive replaced I thought I saved my main itunes playlist correctly, but apparently did not.

When I reinstalled itunes and imported the file I had saved, it only created one tenth of the songs I had on it initially. Most are on my ipod but I want to be sure I won't lose them if I connect it to the computer again. Actually think I did that once - I use the setting about syncing only what's checked and had changed what was checked. Got a shock when I synced next and most of my music disappeared off my ipod. Obviously I don't want that to happen again.

is there a way to sync my ipod with Monocalendar or Sunbird. I know it works with outlook but I can't seem to figure out how to sync it with other calendar programs.

any pointers would be greatly appreciated

A:Solved: Sync iPod with other Calendar? Not Outlook.

Hiya

Reading into this, it looks like you need to look at mozPod:

mozPod is a project to bring iPod syncronization to Mozilla products such as Thunderbird and Sunbird.

mozPod is a free extension to syncronize your Thunderbird Address Book with your iPod.

I want to buy a new Ipod Nano but keep reading confusing information about how it is no longer supported by Apple and will not sync with the latest version of iTunes. Best new device price is via Amazon where a lot of this information is noted.

I am much more trustful of your comments regarding Apple Support and sync capabilities..

Many Thanks-Paul

I have an iPod Classic 80GB:

When I try to update the iPod using AutoSync on iTunes, it deletes all the music on the iPod, which consequently leaves it entirely blank.

I know it can do this if there is no music on the computer that it is trying to sync to, however all of my music remains in the iTunes library and in the My Music folder, so it should be able to find and transfer it.

Although I can manually sync the iPod, as I am currently rummaging through my CD collection and adding music several times a day, it is difficult to remember what is on there when transferring - often it duplicates if you transfer it twice - and so I have to delete all the music off of my iPod and then highlight and add it all again, which is time consuming.

Any help to stop AutoSunc deleting would be greatly appreciated.

I had a system crash and had to reinstall my OS on a Dell laptop. IPod Drivers are installed and working. Now I can't sync from my IPod to my PC when I hit sync at the bottom of the window nothing happens I assume because the sync box isn't checked. When open any of the tabs, music, podcasts... and click on the sync box I get a message:
Are you sure you want to remove existing music, movies, podcasts....from this IPod and sync with this iTunes library? Music, movies...synced to Lucy's IPod from other ITunes libraries will be removed and synced with this ITunes library.
Music I bought from ITunes in the new ITunes library but nothing that I ripped from my CD collection. I really don't want to load all my CD's again. Any suggestion how to transfer my music back to this ITunes library from my IPod ? Thanks Lucy

Hey Guys,

I have a 2nd Gen ipod touch 8GB, I'm having problems with the wireless on it, for some odd reason the weather, stocks and youtube apps refuse to work.Everything else works perfect. What I don't get is they used to work fine until a couple of weeks ago. Another problem im having with it is for some reason certain websites won't load properly or wont load at all, mainly wordpress websites like my own.

I have this problem with all 4 ipod Touches that have used my wi-fi, but on a different wi-fi network they all work perfectly.

So I've concluded that it's my router, it must be blocking something for some reason, but I've no idea what it could be.

Another note is I was using a router and everything was perfect, I recently got a new one and all was fine, but then we had to change back to the old router as the new one burnt out (lightning strike) and ever since I've gone back to the original router I've had these problems.

Anyone any ideas how to fix this?

Thanks a bunch
