ThinkPad X1 Yoga (3rd Gen) - USB 3.0 Dock issue

Q: ThinkPad X1 Yoga (3rd Gen) - USB 3.0 Dock issue

Hi,I'm using a ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd generation in conjunction with a ThikPad USB 3.0 Dock (DU9019D1). Since about two weeks the Notebook refuses to connect properly to the Dock about 90% of the time. When connected to the dock the screen turns on and off repeatingly until I remove the dock. The screens attached to the dock do not show any connected source. All other features of the dock work as intended. Updating my drivers didn't turned out to have any effect. Furthermore I am using a seccond DU9019D1 Dock which shows the same behavior. The ThinkPad is running the latest Windows 10 build. Doese anyone here have an idea on how to fix this issue?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

When a Windows 8 ThinkPad Yoga is connected to a ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock (Model DU9033S1) which has a sound cable placed into its headphone jack, every few seconds the sound will alternate between the laptop speakers and the docking station. It appears that the connection to the docking station is briefly lost (sound comes from laptop speakers), and then re-established (sound goes to docking station). However, during this "disconnect/connect", all other aspects of the docking station are unaffected (video, network, USB).

Updating BIOS, audio drivers, dock drivers & firmware have had no impact. If sound cable is removed from dock, then behaves normally (sound goes to dock only). Happens with multiple Thinkpad Yogas and multiple docking stations.

Hi, Everyone. Got me a nice little x270 to replace my old x201.  Happy enough with the machine, but getting it connected to my accessories (monitor, keyb, mouse, ethernet) is a bit of a chore. This machine appears to have a "proper" dock port on the bottom.  Is there a compatible ultradock available for the model 20HN x270?  By proper - I mean, Not USB.  A nice dock I can simply drop the machine into when I'm at the home office.. Thanks!

Hi, I have  a Thinkpad X380 Yoga. The Thunderbolt 3 Dock will not charge my Thinkpad X380 YOGA, and a message saying that the dock is not providing enough power shows up on my minitor. I wonder if anyone have a solution to this problem. It does not make  sense to have to connect the Thunderbold AND the AC power to the Thinkpad, it should be just ONE Thunderbold cord. 1. My power brick is 135W, 20V-6.75A2. I am connecting the Thunderbolt to throuogh the port on the back of the dock.3. I have went to BIOS  and under power section, "disable the battary for technical service" and pwered it back on. None of the above solutions worked.

Hello, Could somebody help me with the solution for charging my laptop X1 Yoga for USB docking station, please? Thnak you, Marius.

A:x1 yoga not charge from ThinkPad USB 3.0 Pro Dock

USB 3.0 docks are not capable of powering a computer (unless some non-standard functionality is used, and even then only a small amount of power can be supplied). The only standards compliant way to power a computer from a USB dock is a USB type C dock with power delivery capability connected to a USB type C port on a suitable laptop. The X1 Yoga does not have USB type C, so the only dock that can power the X1 Yoga is the OneLink+ Dock. You will need to connect a power adapter as well as the USB 3.0 dock if you wish to power the X1 Yoga.

We have standardized our deployments to ThinkPad X1 Yogas, and in many case including this one, they are the second generation model. Because of the performance, we use the Thunderbolt 3 Dock, purchased directly through Lenovo. This setup is not unfamilar to use as we have deployed over 40 workstations in the same configuration. This morning, our team received a call stating that an end-users monitors weren't working. Upon reviewing, we found that the dock wasn't being recognized by the laptop, although the connection was there because it was charging the laptop. We went through the normal "rinse and repeat" steps of ensuring that the thunderbolt cable was connected to the correct ports on both the dock and the laptop, removing the connection, removing the power, rebooting the computer, reintroducing the dock, etc., but to no avail. We remove the dock from known devices hoping that it would spark it to recognize a new device, but it didn't. We removed the Thunderbolt Software completely, reinstalling it, and then reconnecting the device, and still, nothing. Our devices are set to automatically install critical and security updates both through Lenovo Vantage and Windows Updates, but, the only change made between the time it was working and the time it stopped working wasn't relative to the dock. To be sure, we rolled back the updates, then rolled back farther, but it still didn't resolve the issue. We then followed through with installing all Windows and Lenovo updates: ... Read more

I've purchased the Lenovo 520 Yoga, and I need to have a docking station for it. The shop where I bought it recommended the Thinkpad USB-C Dock and said it was compatibale, but I can't get the laptop to recognize the dock.I've installed the drivers as instructed, and I've gone through the troubleshooting guide. I can't find anywhere that this laptop is compatible with the dock, so I want to ask if anyone else is using this combination. And if not, do you know of any other docking stations that are compatible with the 520? This is a problem, as my job requires me to use a docking station to work efficiently, and a lack of docking possibilites really makes the laptop worthless. Any tips, suggestions and experiences are useful! Best regards,Morten, Norway.

I have recently purchased both of the subject items.  I was informed via chat channels with Lenovo that the graphics dock would work with the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen.  However, upon connection, my Yoga recognizes that a Thunderbolt device has been connected but it does not recognize that a graphics card or USB ports exist.  Thus, my mouse, keyboard, and monitor do not work while connected to graphics dock.  I have downloaded and installed the drivers for the graphics dock but the result is still the same.  Does the graphics dock really work with the X1 Yoga 3rd Gen?  If so, is there a BIOS setting I must address to make this configuration work?

I could not connect via Ethernet using the TPY (Win 8.1) and Onelink Dock (basic).  With all updated software, the TPY kept trying to connect to the USB3-ethernet in the Dock but could not start the hardware. I received a USB device not recognized which cycled during a session and seemed to screw up other parts of the system. Thinking it was a driver issue I uninstalled all the ASIX drivers and removed all the driver packages associated with the ASIX AX88179 and AX88178 controller   (see:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730875.aspx  ). Then ran Windows update which downloaded yet another ASIX package. I downloaded both the Win 7 and Win 8 driver packages from ASIX, unzipped and looked these over.  I modified the *.inf files and deleted all the non-english segments with asian or Russian characters at the end of the file leaving only the English segment and saved these on the C: drive.  (http://www.asix.com.tw/download.php?sub=driverdetail&PItemID=131) I reloaded the OneLink drivers from Lenovo.  Ethernet not recognized. From Device Manager,  I tried to update the Ethernet controller driver to the new downloaded, modified Win 8 driver and received the message that the driver was the current driver so it would not update. Instead, I had DM browse for the Windows 7 driver, and loaded that.  Ethernet not recognized. Then I had DM browse for the modified Windows 8 driver.  Thi... In the last month I purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga 2G and the Thuderbolt USB C dock. Since the USB C cable that comes with the dock is too short to allow the dock on the right and laptop on the left (in laptop mode), I put the notebook in tent mode and all works fine---except... Everytime I power up from hibernate it starts beeping about once a second and does not stop. I have to disconnect from the dock, flip it to laptop mode (this is where the beeping stops), return it to tent mode, and then plug the dock back in. It seems that Lenovo, like everybody else, is rushing things to market with plans to fix bugs later (maybe). Any thoughts I how to stop the beeping?  The first time it happened I closed all the apps to reboot and it still was beeping. Thanks.

Hello everyone,  I would like to connect 3 external monitors to Yoga 260. I found out that conection of 3 external displays is feasible. It is associated with turning off the native LCD, whcich is OK for me. I would like to use ThinkPad OneLink+ Dock (40A40090XX). The docking station has 2 DP and 1 VGA. The issue is I'd rather use 2 DP from docking station and one DP which is on board Yoga instead of VGA. Is such configuration possible? I would like to figure it out before I will buy the station. I've found document: https://support.lenovo.com/uu/en/documents/pd029622 , but there is nothing on using docking stations' DP and native DP in one configuration, simultaneously. Whether it is because on board DP will be disabled? The alternative is MST (eg. http://www.club-3d.com/index.php/products/reader.en/product/multi-stream-transport-mst-hub.html). Both devices are at a comparable price, and if I had confidence that the docking station will work with onboard DP simultaneously, I would choose it.  Thank you in advance, best regardsM

Since no one has replied, I would like close this discussion.  Still someone might benefit for the information, that: - I have purchased and tested ThinkPad OneLink+ Dock- it works with 3 external monitors using 2 DP from docking station and one mini-DP from Yoga itself- working configuration is as follows: 2 displays are connected to OneLink+ Dock with one active DP to DVI converter, one passive DP to DVI converter and the last one (Yogas? port) with active mini-DP to DVI converter- I didn?t try to use for example 2 or 3 passive DP to DVI converters (but I guess that 2 should do the job, but 3 will probably won?t work)- when OneLink+ Dock is attached, the HDMI port in Yoga is not working! (the information one can also find in BIOS, but no materials on-line) Best regards,Maciej

Both are running fine. But it is impossible to start the PC when the dock is connected: The screen freeze at the red square LENOVO display from the Bios, windows 10 pro doesn't start.

I have to disconnect the dock, et relaunch the PC to enable a normal start. After the start, I can reconnect the dock.

I updated all drivers, flashed the bios, latest FW of the dock and even resetted Windows, but without success.

Lenovo support wants to change the laptop (!), it's brand new!

I thought maybe one of the topgun member of this community might have a better idea.

Hi community, I've a very annoying problem with my X1 Yoga. I'm using the OneLink+ Dock at the office connected to two 27 inch displays. When setting up everything it worked pretty well. Yesterday i left my desk for a few minutes. All displays went to standby which is fine. When waking up the machine one external display stayed in standby mode. I tried everything I can think of:- disconnecting the display from power and reconnect it- disconnect the display port and reconnect it- change the display port cable (length should be no issue since it's 1m)- switching display ports at the dock between displays- removing the display in the device manger and detect it again- restart the computer- shutdown the computer, pull every power cable and put everything back together- change the OneLink+ Dock ... nothing helped. What's strange: the internal and the working external display are shown as "PnP-Monitor" and the display not working is shown as "Digital-Flatscreen (640x480 60Hz)" In the Intel HD Graphic application I can see the display but can't change anything about it. I can move it around from left to middle to right position and back. Still I can't change the resolution nor turn the display back on. Yesterday i changed the non-working display with another one of the same kind and it worked again. I have a W541 and it always worked well with the dock and dual external monitors, that is until the firmware was updated by Lenovo System Update to the Latest Version: 2.33.000 about a week ago. Now when you boot the laptop in the dock, the post shows on the two external monitors then they go black and seem to disconnect as the power saving icon shows on both monitors. If you undock the laptop at this point and immediately re-dock, the two monitors light up and no more issues. While this isnt a huge issue, it is very annoying since it always worked properly before the update. Any suggestions on a possible fix are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

To Whom It May Concern, This has been a nightmare trying to get support for a 3-year Worldwide Warranty product that my company purchased a little over 1 year ago. The dock's DisplayPort seem to not be working properly. The monitor that is connected to it will randomly go blank. I've tried updating to the latest drivers and firmware for the dock. I tried switching monitors and switching cables. I've tried moving around USB devices to make sure it isn't interfering with operation. I've tried connecting the bare minimum to the devices and the problem persisted. I need the DisplayPort as I am running a dual monitor setup. I contacted the Customer Service line to get support. To my dismay, I was told my product was not under warranty and had to send in a copy of the invoice for my product. The support rep gave me an email address to their entitlement department and was told I will receive a response within 24-48 hours. It's been 96 hours now and no response. I try calling again to check on my status, but told the same thing and that they don't have the service case in their system. I hope some Lenovo rep can see this and provide some assistance.

I hope someone can help me.  I am having an issue with connecting my Lenovo ThinkPad X380 Yoga to a USB-C Dock.  I have installed all of the drivers and enabled Thunderbold 3 within BIOS, however only the USB, LAN connections work when I plug the dock into the Laptop.  The two displays that are plugged into the dock via Display Port do not work and the laptop seems not able to detect the displays.  Things I have tried: Plugged in only one monitor using both VGA and DP but still nothing.Uninstalled and reinstralled the drivers.Ran the Lenovo support tool to make sure all drivers on the laptop are up to date.Power cycled both the laptop and dock. As I said the USB devices plugged into the dock seem to work fine as does the LAN.  I have tried to update the firmware on the dock however I keep getting the following message: ThinkPad USB-C DP Hub version can't be checked! Please power cycle the Dock to try again. I have powercycled but still have the same message.  I am all out of ideas as to why the displays do not work.   Any ideas?

Hi there, when I undock my X280 from the Ultra dock (notebook closed but running) and open the lid the device will not respond to keyboard or trackpoint input.I need to close the lid again which triggers entering 'energy saving' mode. Then opening the lid again will resume everything to normal. I can reproduce this every time on two identical Docks. Funny thing is, my wifes identical X280 does not show this behaviour but works fine. Any idea what I could try to solve this small (but a bit annoying issue)?Thanks.Q.

When powering my X1 Carbon Gen 6 via my new ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 (40AS), the dock will frequently disconnect and then rapidly reconnect to the PC. When the dock disconnects, all connected devices are also disconnected from the PC, including USB and ethernet. However, the dock remains powered on with a yellow light, and delivers power via the powered USB port. When the dock disconnects, it and all attached devices show a yellow hazard triangle in the device viewer, before vanishing and reappearing once they connect. This all happens within a span of seconds, usually repeatedly, and most often when the fans are spinning up.Sometimes when disconnecting, the dock light will turn yellow, will make a loud "clicking" sound similar to a mechanical hard drive. This happens most frequently when disconnecting a secondary power source (see below). The drivers and firmware for both the X1 and the dock are up to date. The only "solution" I've found is to connect both the 65w adapter that came with the X1 and the USB-C cable connecting to the dock. This seems to provide enough power to prevent devices from disconnecting. However, I've noticed that once plugged in, removing the X1 adapter while the dock is still connected will immediately cause the dock to start disconnecting and repeating rapidly. And of course, I bought this dock so I could do everything through one cable, not two. Everything seems to point to either the dock not providing enough po... Read more

Hi! I´ve just bought 2 new Full HD monitors to feed them using a Thunderbolt 3 Dock. My problem: one of the monitors has a colour issue showing purple instead of green. Sometimes the right one, after restart the left one a.s.o. - I changed cables from DP to HDMI and VGA: ever the same- I´ve tried the second thunderbolt port of the docking station Once even the laptop´s display itself showed the wrong colours but it now works fine again.I´m not able to get the tweo external monitors working together with the right colours. Neither including the Yoga´s display nor when Yoga´s display is turned off. What to do...? Best regards!

A:Yoga 370 & Thunderbolt 3 Dock monitor issue

Solution: Settings were changed in the Intel graphics settings AUTOMATICALLY for one display - one colour value has been set to a wrong value. As I´m the only one working with this machine it´s kind of weird - I´ve nevr been to the additional intel graphic settings before.

Yoga 260 could not wake up from sleeping mode when it is connected to Onelink plus dock.Yoga 260 is connected to a Onelink plus dock and one external montior is connected to the dock using DP cable. Yoga 260 goese to sleeping mode when user closes its lid, but it could not wake up when user opens its lid - there is no display on both screen. However, if we disconnect the laptop from the dock right away and open the lid, there is display on the laptop screen, further, if we connect the laptop back to the dock, both screen will have display.  We have updated drivers on the laptop and changed Onelink plus dock. But the problem is still there.  Any one had the same? thanks,

I have a Yoga 370 with up to date vidoe driver, up to date USB 3.0 Pro Dock firmware, and up to date dock drivers running Win 10. I'm trying to run 2 Lenovo Thinkvision P24h-10 and I am unable to run both at 2560x1440. Monitor 2 will only run at 1920x1080.  Anyone know a possible fix?

I have a P40 Yoga attached to an Ultra Dock 3.0 USB.  I have/had an HDMI cable coming off the dock to a ViewSonic monitor.  I am getting a maximum resoltion of 1920 x 1080 and colors are not displaying correctly or in some cases not displaying at all.  I found mention on the ThinkPad site that 4K is only supported via the DP off the dock.  So I tried a DP to HDMI cable and that does the same thing.  If I plug the monitor directly into the HDMI port on the laptop everything works great. Why doesn't the dock work as advertised and expected?  Is there a different setup required?

Hi There I am new to this forum and could not find an answer to my question so here it goes... I need to deploy an automated image to a Yoga 370 (20JH) with the use of the USB-C dock (type 40A9).This is because the WinPE (windows 10 Pro 1709) environment is only accessible through LAN. I have found WinPE drivers on the website, and also some BIOS settings wich could affect the success of this automated installation but.... Whatever I try the deployment always stalls at the same point. I know it is driver related, but after some time trail and erroring I am about to give up. Please help! The Yoga 370 is connected to the usb-c dock, which is in turn connected to LAN.The bios is set to UEFI only, secure boot is disabled. When the Yoga boots to network the bootfile is loaded.I can see the default windows "loading files" bar appearing, and the the windows logo shows. There it stalls. (normally a circle appears after this loading windows... but it does not show) I have no issues installing a T570 (20H9) or M710q (10MR) for example.Only the combination of Yoga and dock refuse to get deployed. Does somebody know which driver set to use in the WinPE phase? I run out of options
