Address List In Outlook Express

Q: Address List In Outlook Express

My problems always seems so stupid after I read other questions that are being asked...but I have always heard the expression "the only stupid question...is the one that isn't asked"..So I am gonna go for it..
I want to print out a list of my address book..but no matter which one I choose...(memo, business card, or phone list) it prints out like 14 pages (using 2 or 4 spaces between the persons name..and their e/mail addy..then more spacing between the 1st name and the next name and so on and so on...all I want is a printed list of my address book as I see it with their name and addy to the side and the next one right below with their name and addy out to the side ...etc...etc...

But it will not print me a list like that. What am I doing wrong?..and can it be done...(what I am wanting to do).

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need to send an e-mail group list created in Outlook 2002 to a user who has Outlook Express (I think it's ver 5).

I tried exporting it as a .pst file but his computer opened it in Wordpad and garbled everything.

Is it OK to send it as a .pst file? If so, what's the proper way for the user to import the e-mail list onto their computer?

If .pst files aren't the way to go, what is the best export/import process?

I have searched and found a slight answer to this question (which seems to be "no way"), and have searched many other forums for information, however . . . thought I'd post it here too to see if there is any new info on this problem.

In Outlook Express, I can view .any single contact's membership in various groups/distribution lists on the "other" tab . However, in OE I cannot sort or view this information in very meaningful ways, nor view those various memberships in any of the main contact pane views.

In Outlook 2000, by sharing the OE address book, I can view and sort much contact information in more meaningful ways, but there seems to be NO way to see how many distribution lists/groups a single contact belongs to.

SURELY SURELY SURELY there must be a code or patch to create a field to show this info in Outlook 2000! If anyone has a hint -- even a book to refer me to that I would wade through (and I would), please repond.

Thanks for the help

I created an outlook.com e-mail account. I exported my address book from Windows live as a .csv file. I imported it from Outlook.com. Everything went OK and said successful. My problem is I can't find it. When I create an e-mail message and click on To, the only address there is mine. When I click on People from the drop down link, the address are there, but you can't do anything with them. Any thoughts?

A:Outlook.com address list

If you go to the People page on Outlook.com, and click on a contact, does it show the email address?

I also had problems getting a csv file to work from Outlook 2003 into Outlook.com.

What I found was that certain phone number fields didn't get imported into outlook.com, even though when I tried an export from outlook.com, those very same fields were there in its own export csv format. The records imported and their names were there, but useful information like phone numbers wasn't (with no error mentioning it).

I think what I did in the end was manually type a test contact into outlook.com, with email/ phone number etc. filled in, and work out how it exported from outlook.com, and moved the data around in my import csv into different columns to match.

I have over 13 years of Outlook Express folders and addresses that I desperately need to convert to Outlook 2007. I should have imported them into Outlook before I made the "Easy File Transfer" to the new Win 7 machine, but didn't know I needed to do that. Several years ago I had imported the files into Outlook, although that data did transfer it is now way out-of-date and full of duplicates.

The up-to-date data is still in my old machine and also in an external hard drive backup. I have isolated the Outlook Express personal folders into .dbx format and the addresses into .wab format.

Is there a way this can be reformatted into Outlook? Or is there some other way? I would probably also need to delete what is already in Outlook first, or I would have many more duplicates.

I welcome any suggestions.

I just upgraded to 2003 from 2000. In Microsoft's ongoing effort to make things easier for people (!), they keep adding "conveniences." In 2003 when you type in an address--any address, even incorrect ones--Outlook remembers it and lists is among your choices the next time you type in the same beginning letters.

Does anyone know how to edit that list to clean out typos and extraneous email addresses? I actually liked the way 2000 worked for this better than 2003.

I'm using OE 5.5 to send an announcement to a large group of business associates & friends. I'd like to be able to send this announcement email without the recipients seeing a long list of names & email addresses in the "To" subject line of the email when they receive it. Is there any way under OE 5.5 to send an email without the email itself showing all the names of the recipients in the "To" field? In other email clients that I've used in the past, you can create a distribution list, and tell the email client program to suppress the showing of individual names on the list, and just show in the "To" subject line, for example, "My Business Associates & Friends". Have not been able to determine if OE 5.5 can do this. Thanks.

Tony

A:Outlook Express 5.5 Distribution List

Open your Address Book and create a new group using "My Business Associates & Friends" as the name of the group. Select the recipients for the group. In the box at the bottom of the screen for Name: paste "My Business Associates & Friends" again and insert your email address in the E-Mail: field.

When you are ready to send your message, click on the To: field, select the Contact "My Business Associates & Friends" and for the Bcc: field, select the Group "My Business Associates & Friends".

Your recipients will see only your email address if they double click on the "My Business Associates & Friends" title.

You will receive at least one copy of your message.

PC #1: Win98, Office XP, MS Mail.
PC #2: WinXP, Office XP, MS Mail.

User on PC #1 has a distribution list with about 8 MS Mail (interoffice, not internet) email addresses, including PC #2. All other emails go through; one will be returned as undeliverable - the one for PC #2.

I tried to duplicate the problem on my pc, but it all goes through.

If user on PC #1 sends an email to PC #2, not using a distribution list, it will go through, even if he sends it to a bunch of people.

I don't know if this matters, but there are two internet email addresses on this distribution list - most of it is interoffice email via MS Mail.

Windows & Office have all their updates & patches.

Anyone ever encounter this trippy thing? Any ideas of what to do?

Thanks,

Today, I converted my PST file from Outlook 2000 format to the Outlook 2003 format and it works fine but tonight when I went to send an email, the Contact list displayed but it would not enter any of the contacts into the "new" email that I wanted to send. An error message appeared and it says;

"Address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened. It may have been moved or deleted or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove this folder from the outlook address book, see Microsoft Outlook Help."

I tried every word I can think of to search for a solution in the help section and nothing worked or even seemed helpful. I have also tried to import address lists from various sources but that does not work because the list is already there but not associated with the Contacts list present in my program.

Any ideas on how to get my address list to work?

Despite having a Win 7 laptop, I still have an XP desktop and have for many years used OE as my e-mail client. However, I use Thunderbird on the laptop, and thought about switching to it on the desktop. But T-bird has one huge flaw for me. I use a LOT of group address lists. They are very easy to create in OE by just naming the group the SELECTING the addresses to put into the group by clicking the "Select Members" button and double-clicking the person from the address book. In T-bird, there's no such "Select Members" button; you're asked to manually enter the e-mail address -- a royal pain in the arse. So I've been looking at Outlook as an alternative, since it is available in all versions of Office.

I still use Office 2000 on the desktop, mainly because MS destroyed the ability to do easy mail-merges with Access in Office 2007/2010 (cannot use queries as written; have to replace all "*" with "%" -- which only works with mail-merge, but not when run as a query in Access). I imported my OE address book into Outlook's Contacts folder, thinking that was the same as an address book. But when I try to create an e-mail and click the To: button, it tells me, "The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted. . . See MS Outlook Help."

MS Outlook Help, like most MS Help, is useless. I found MS pages like this whi... Read more

Hi

I have a filter set up on my Outlook e-mail which does the following:

- Check mail when it arrives
- Move messages to 'EXTERNAL MAIL' folder
- Except where 'Sender' is in 'GLOBAL ADDRESS LIST'.

Great, all my external e-mail is filtered from my inbox. This means that I can focus on my inbox and deal with important stuff before I sift through all the junk in my external mail folder.

But then I get external e-mail that I want to stay in my inbox (eg. From my wife!).

So I have added another exception 'Except if from '[email protected]' or '[email protected]' etc.

What I would really like to do is have exceptions that say:

- Except where 'Sender' is in 'GLOBAL ADDRESS LIST' or 'CONTACTS'.

That way as soon as I add someone to my contacts, their e-mail doesn't get filtered out. I can then see an e-mail and think 'Oh, I don't want that one filtered next time', add the sender to my contacts and job done.

However, it seems taht you can only have ONE 'except if sender is in specified address book' exception.

Does anyone know a way round this?

Thanks

You may have an infection or two in your computer please to run the following:

To download HJTsetup.exe To Download HijackThis go to the following: http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item5
Filename = 1137518044HJTsetup.exe
Save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\HijackThis.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialog boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialog.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialog box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
At the top of the Notepad HJT log screen, hit Edit then Select All then click Edit and then click Copy doing that copies the text to the clipboard, you won't see it yet....
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

A security expert should take a look at your log - please be patient.

If an incoming message has a domain name which is different to any in your block list (even if it's different by only one character) it will be allowed through because it does not exactly match any domain name in your block list.

Check the spelling of the domain names in your block list and carefully compare them with those that are still getting through.
Chances are the spelling is different somewhere.

you know on your blocked sender list - spammers usually change their reply address by one letter right?

so if you delete everything preceding the "@" sign, will that block the domain? OR do-you need to put an "*" before the "@" sign? Does it work like a wildcard (such as in other applications?)

eg change

[email protected] to
@spam.com or
[email protected]

or will both work?

is there an easier way besides block sender-ing every spam mail you get?

on the same topic, my express seems to delete "oked" addresses!!??

I mean the addresses are not in my block sender list or under any rules - why would they end up in the delete box?

I deleted a couple of entries in my (extremely extensive) 'Blocked Senders' list tonight. When I had finished, I notice that there were no longer any entries in my 'Contact List'. The latter has always been displayed at the lower left of my OE display, beneath all of my 'Local Folders'. I checked my Address Book, and found it to be (apparently) intact. So I haven't lost the 'source' for the Contact List display. I checked the setting for 'Contacts' in the 'Layout' under the 'View' tab, and found that it was not set for viewing. I did so (via checkmark), but that didn't change anything: I still can't see any of my Contacts in the OE Contact List.

My Outlook Express contact list has disappeared. I can make the contact plane on the lower-left conrner appear, but it doesn't display the contacts. However, the contacts are not lost. When I click on the Address Book, although the contacts do not appear, I am able to use the find or look-up function to locate any contacts that were there before.

I am able to locate the .wab address book, but when I click on it, it shows the exact same thing as the address book above--the contacts are hidden but retrievable.

Any idea about how to make the hidden contact list appear in the address book? Thanks!

Hi,

My Outlook Express 6 has stopped retaining the blocked senders list built up over some time.

So far I have deleted and re-installed both IE 6 and OE 6

Imported and re-imported the list from the registry per the MS KB instructions

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=276511

The blocked senders list is still located in the registry at the correct location

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{...alphanumerics...}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0\Block Senders\Email\Criteria.

but is obviously not being picked up by Outlook Express anymore.

I have also tried deleting the registry key.

Even if I do this, the blocked senders list will not stay there.

My mail rules listing with all the words such as "medication" "prescription" and numerous others, is still there.

Nothing it would seem will restore the ability of Outlook Express to retain this list.

I've run all the Spyware and AV scans I can

Win XP Pro with IE 6 & OE 6 on Dell Dimension D4100.
All recent MS security updates (checked today)
Norton AV 2003 updated today, with SpyBlaster, Ad-Aware Plus & SpyBot Spyware removal tools.
Zone Alarm Pro

I could post a Hi Jack this listing if requested.

Any ideas, would be gratefully received

Thanks

Ceri Sheeran (Mr.)

When using Outlook Express (Note: EXPRESS, not MS Outlook) I often use the 'Find' function to search for old sent or received emails. However I'm not able to open the emails from this feature (message reads: 'Message could not be Displayed - Check your comp for low memory or low disc space'). I have plenty of both - I'm using a near new comp with 80GB hard drive, only 35GB of which is used. I have 2GB of RAM with 1GB or more of head room when running usual applications.

This is a time-wasting hassle, as I need to write down the date and time the email was sent, close the find box, then search for the email chronologically. If that's not the one I was looking for I have to do the same thing all over again.

Would this have anything to do with the size of my Outlook Express folder, which has about 7GB of emails stored.

How can I make my address book display display mobile phone numbers? I managed to synchronize my mobile phone address book with Outlook Express 6, using a USB cable. Now I want to download it to my address book on my new mobile phone. (This should be much easier than just putting in the sim card, as my sim only holds 250 contacts, wheareas the mobile phone itself holds lots more, & it's very fiddly switching sim cards, then copying from card to phone, deleting from card, back into old phone, copying again, etc. etc...) But before that, I want to check over my address book to delete old, duplicated & unwanted contacts. The problem is, when I display my address book, it lists Name, E-Mail Address, Business Phone, & Home Phone. I cannot find a way of making it list Mobile Phone, even though this info is stored on it; if I click on any entry & click Properties, it correctly lists Mobile under the Summary tab, also Mobile number can be edited under Home tab.

In Outlook Express Help, search for address book mobile lists ... 0 topics found.

Any ideas? Thanks
