Does Precision 7710 second PCIe SSD run on SATA bus?

Q: Does Precision 7710 second PCIe SSD run on SATA bus?

Hi,
I'm custom configuring a Precision 7710 system and trying to pick a 2nd SSD.
The boot drive will be the "512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe High Performance Class 50 Solid State." I believe it's connected directly to the PCIe bus buss via an M.2 connector.
For the second drive I'm considering the "512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe High Performance Class 50 Solid State Drive with Interposer." However, I looked up Interposer and it appears to be a SATA adapter. So, does this mean the 2nd drive will be running on the SATA bus? If so, this high performance PCIe SSD will not be able to live up to it's full potential due to the SATA bottleneck, right? I would be better off just getting a cheaper SATA drive, no?
Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to do a clean install of Win 7 Pro on my Precision 7710 and every time I boot off of the DVD and click Install it goes a screen saying there are no drivers found for the device. I have tried switching to UMEI mode, RAID mode, Legacy on and off... no luck. What drivers am I missing exactly?

A:Cannot install Win 7 on Precision 7710

Hello!  In the BIOS make sure RAID is off and switched to AHCI, Legacy should be on, secure boot off.  Then when you hit the F key (forget which one) to access what to boot from, make sure you are using legacy DVD drive and not anything that would say UEFI.  As long as you are not using RAID or via some USB 3 external drive you should be fine.

Frequently, the screen on my Precision 7710 will not wake up. I can actually remotely connect to the laptop at this time and work on it fine but sitting in front of it, the only thing that works is a hard reboot. I've similar issues on other models related to BIOS. I figured that Windows 10 updates would fix the problem but it persists since Dec-15 when I bought it. Anybody managed to find a fix for this?

My Dell Precision 7710 is 5 months old. One week ago the audio on my Windows 10 disappeared - the speaker icon got a red cross. Clicking on it I get the message that no audio speaker is connected. I reinstalled the drivers - tried three types: from Dell's website, Nvidia's and directly from Realtek - no result. Then reinstalled Windows with drive_C formatting: still no sound. I know that my laptop has a built-in Audio from Realtek. But in the Device Manager in the list of sound devices there is no such device: just "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" (in case of Nvidia's driver was installed) and "Audio Device High Definition Audio" (in case of Dell's standard driver) - both related to the HDMI output. No mentioning about Realtek Audio. It looks like Windows 10 doesn't recognize Realtek audio hardware anymore. I launched device test from Dell's Support website - the results said the system is alright, no problems. Thinking that probably this is a hardware issue I also launched the ePSA diagnostics (pressing F12 on the startup), but the test hasn't found any hardware problems. But when I clicked to audio test there (there was something about test beep) - there was no sound from the speaker. But Windows 10 still doesn't see any sound device (except that mentioning about HDMI). Here is 3 screenshots:https://imgur.com/a/ZgVYTWhat's the problem with it and how to fix it? Thank you. ... Hi blamingas,
If there was no sound from the speaker when you ran the test in ePSA it would indicate a hardware failure.
If you send me a PM with your service tag and contact details I can look into options for you.

All right, so my company has a try-buy 7710 that we're thinking of making our high end standard. This unit has 2x M.2 PCIe drives in it.
I have integrated the following hotfix into our installation wim for Windows 7 (not necessary in the boot wim, since its WinPE 10):
All of our drivers are successfully imported into MDT, and they're injected during the task sequence. However, when MDT reboots from PE into Windows, I get a BSOD 0x7B. When booting in safe mode, it crashes at DISK.SYS
All right. Tells me it's a driver issue then.
What driver do I need to remove / inject in order to get this functioning? I'm really trying to make a strong case about Dell to my manager, but issues like this make it really hard on my part.

Hi!
Our corporation are running several lines of computers from Dell where as the Precision 7710 (soon to be 7720) is currently the "top of the line" laptop computer available for our employees.
Some of us are finding the Quadro cards installed limiting for certain tasks and I am currently researching the possibilities connecting an external egpu unit to the P7710 through the Thunderbolt 3 port.
The setup I have is, as mentioned, a P7710 connected to an Asus Rog XG Station 2 holding an Asus Strix Geforce GTX 1080 TI inside. It's not working. I spent the entire day reading forums and reddits, flashing bios and updating all drivers possible. I've also been tweaking and adjusting settings inside the BIOS ot get it working.
As far as I can tell the Thunderbolt firmware currently available to the P7710 is not supporting external GPUs. PD Firmware version is currently 16.00. Thunderbolt do recognize the external unit by name though.
Any help getting it working or notification on implementation progress is really appreciated!
Thank you.
Best regards.

I have a new 7710 that came with a 256GB NVMe SSD.  I have upgraded it to a Samsung 950 Pro 512.  I am using Windows 10 UEFI.
I have a question on the bios setting.  Should it be AHCI or RAID.  The machine came default with RAID On and came with Win 10 Pro pre-installed.
Currently I switched it to ACHI, used the MS Download and installed Win 10 Pro.  Once in windows, I installed all the dell drivers and also the Samsung NVMe driver.
I have read on different forums that the bios setting should be RAID, but also read it should be AHCI.
Question:  Which should it be.  Is one better than the other?
Or is it just that if in AHCI, it will use the MS NVMe Driver (or Samsung NVMe Driver) and if in RAID, it will use the Intel IRST drivers?
I assume if AHCI like I have it, then I can use the Samsung NVMe Driver.  I have read if not in AHCI, the Samsung NVMe Driver will not install.
If I switch to RAID, then I would need to use the Intel Rapid Storage Tech (IRST) Driver and not the samsung driver (I read samsung driver will not install if AHCI).
So I am confused if one is better than the other (AHCI or Raid).
FYI, I have been using for around 10 days and no BSOD due to the PCIe NVMe drive.

A:Precision 7710 and Samsung NVMe 950 Pro

I own a Precision 7510 and am in the same situation. I did exactly the same except that I left the BIOS setting to Raid ON. When in Raid ON the Samsung Magician can only do the following:

Disk drive information for all installed disks. Particularly with the NVMe drive S.M.A.R.T. is not functioning even though it should be. All other drives display S.M.A.R.T. correctly.
Performance Benchmark. Only this function is selectable. All other functions are not available. Probably because the Intel Rapid Storage Techonlogy driver is loaded and not the Samsung NVMe

From performance view it seems pretty fast. Today I am going to change the BIOS setting to AHCI and I will share my results.

I have a Precision 7710 that the adapter does not power up on the newer Boeing 777's.  I've been told that the 240w adapter is the issue.  The plane power limit is apparently 95w?  Anyone know if a lesser wattage adapter would work with the Precision 7710?  Doesn't need to charge the battery, only needs to power the laptop so I can work longer than 2-3 hours on my long 13 hour flights.

A:Precision 7710 no adapter power on Boeing 777

You need a more portable system than this one if you plan to use it on long flights - there's no way 95W will power a Precision 7710.
Consider  buying a lightweight tablet-2 in one or a 14" or smaller travel notebook (or extra batteries, assuming they permit those on the plane).

Hello together,
hope some one has an idea.
We have an Precision 7710 which often, e.g. after returning back to the docking station, doesn't recognize the USB devices like mouse, keyboard and wireless headset anymore. These are connected to the docking station.
In the device manager are then a lot of unrecognized devices also.
We changed already the docking-station, no effect.
We tried to uninstall / install USB device drivers.
We made BIOS update.
Dell support changed the main board, that had no effect either.
The device got reimaged, then it worked for two weeks.
Now the problem reappeared. The user has no administrative rights, no installations have been done in the mean time. He only worked with the laptop, e.g. connected USB sticks, a Nokia phone and a 3D mouse.
I got it running again by deleting the unknow devices in device manager, then docking again. But after some minutes and undocking / docking the problem appeared again.
We have the same Laptop with same installations at other places with no problems.
Dell hotline says now I have to reimage again, it is probably a software error.
Is it really possible that connecting some USB devices can break all USB ports at the docking station?
Probably we will reimage one more time and take care then which devices we will connect.
But I don't really know what to do then. I fear the problem will appear at random again.
Windows 10 64-bit is used.

I decided to upgrade my Dell Precision 7710 (service tag: <Service tag removed>) from non-ECC memory to ECC memory. The laptop was originally configured with 8Gb of non-ECC RAM (2x4GB 2133MHz Hynix p/n HMA451S6AFR8N-TF). After replacing the original memory with ECC(2x16GB 2400MHz Crucial CT16G4TFD824A.18FA1 p/n 18ASF2G72HZ-2G3A1 ) the laptop does not boot. Status LED blinks 2 times amber and 5 times white. The cycle repeats few times and the computer powers off.
I'm using only primary memory banks (both of them are working fine with original sticks) and the newest available BIOS – 1.9.5 .
I've tested several configurations and the only one that works is mixing an old 2133MHz non-ECC stick with a new 2400Mhz ECC stick. This suggests that BIOS is not able to handle scenario when only 2400MHz memory is installed.
Are there any chances that this will be fixed by BIOS update?

I bought a computer from the Dell Outlet that was dead on arrival. I sent it to the repair depot and they put a new motherboard (5RY82 - Motherboard) and video card (YM9KW - Graphics Card) in it then sent it back to me. I powered it up and everything worked except for the backlit keyboard. I called and Dell Support sent me a replacement backlit keyboard that I swapped in and the replacement does not light up either. Hello all,
I just got in a new Precision 7710 system. I checked out the battery and it says 91 Wh, Standard, Li-ion Battery, Type MFKVP".
However, the order I played had Lithium Polymer selected:
"451-BBUV | 6 Cell (91 Whr) Long Life Cycle Lithium Polymer battery"
Was I given the wrong battery or is it incorrectly labeled?

A:Dell Precision 7710 Batteries - Do I have Lithium Polymer?

No, you do not have the correct battery.
Unfortunately, Dell never made this battery or discontinued it before shipping (yet as of mid-April 2016 they are still offering it on new systems. Ugh.) The 91Whr Lithium-Ion battery (much cheaper) is their replacement equivalent.
You and I have been OVERCHARGED for a battery that they don't have. Call Dell and GET A REFUND.

Precision 7710 How many m.2 SSDs can install into 2.5" drive bay
What parts are needed to achieve maximum?

A:Precision 7710 How many m.2 SSDs can install into 2.5" drive bay

The 2.5" drive bay still only has a single SATA connector available on the motherboard, so even though multiple M.2 SSDs would physically fit in the space of a 2.5" drive bay, you wouldn't have a way to connect them all. Even if you only wanted one, I'm not sure there's an M.2 to SATA adapter.  I know there are mSATA to SATA, but that's a different physical connector.  Also note that even if there WERE an M.2 to SATA adapter,  you would need to ensure that your M.2 SSD used the SATA protocol, not NVMe/PCIe, since that would not be able to run over SATA (and even if it could, its performance would suffer significantly by doing so).

The update appeared to succeed, but now I get a notification saying "ControlVault firmware upgrade in progress" EVERY REBOOT.  I tried uninstalling the ControlVault application, but that doesn't get rid of the popup.

In the Event Manager, it shows an Event ID 2 for the source "USHUpgradeService" with a description of "CV firmware upgrade failed".

Our company has developed and uses a software package that utilises WPF to render 3D content in an XBAP in Internet Explorer.  When I attempt to use this software on the 7710, the 3D content flickers a lot when it is redrawn, making it pretty much unusable.  From the stats that we can get from our application, we can see that the update time for the redraw / present is about 45ms, whereas on most other PCs, even ones utilising the integrated Intel graphics, it is usually about 12ms.
We have used this software on a large number of PCs without experiencing anything this bad, which is obviously quite disappointing since the laptop should actually be able to display what we are asking it to without any hassles.

I've got a Dell Precision 7710 with the Dell Precision Optimizer. It works great for when I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D in setting up the laptop for optimization by turning off 2 cores and increasing the clock speed of the processor.
Unfortunately I also do programming with Virtual Machines. When I'm in this mode I want all 4 cores to share the load instead of 2 cores.
Is there a workflow available to go from one profile to no profile? Do I have to do a restart to switch between profiles? So if I'm doing CAD work and then switch over to programming do I have to turn off the AutoCAD profile to no profile and the restart the computer? I tried turning off the profiles and nothing changes for the cores.
Is there a way to create my own profile? Or should I pick one like 3ds Max that would utilize more cores?  Or should I not use it since it won't meet my needs?

This process is working for all model until then .. Latitude and Precision from previous generations.. but now with new models there is an issue with the PIN. At the end of task sequence, the disk is encrypted and there is no error BUT the PIN code is not recognized and the recovery key is asked.
This recovery key is correctly registered in AD. TPM is on and ownership is ok. TPM version is 1.2...
I already tried to manualy decrypt and encrypt again after TPM reset but no way.
I also tried Windows 10 enterprise, and issue is the same.
Is it a known issue ? Did someone here already experienced the same ?

Hi,
This issue is one that is being worked on and there are BIOS updates coming out that will resolve it.
At the moment the latest BIOS for the E7270 will fix the issue (BIOS 1.2.2)
For the Latitude E5470/E5570 and Precision 7510/7710 the BIOS updates to fix this will be released soon. I'm not going to give dates at this point as they may change.

I have a new Precision 7710 with a 2.5 inch 1GB SATA SSD (system boot=Disk0) and a 1GB NVMe PM951 SSD.
I have been attempting to install Windows Server 2012R2 on the second, M.2 SSD (Disk1) into a GPT, NTFS partition.
Since this system has no DVD, I made a bootable UEFI thumb drive with the contents of the .iso installation for Server 2012R2.
The thumb drive boots OK and I can begin installation, but when it comes to choosing the target for installation, the M.2 SSD is not visible in setup.
The M.2 drive is clearly visible inside Windows 10 Pro as the D: drive.
So...I mounted the .iso setup file in Windows 10 and ran setup.exe. The install began and could see the target M.2 drive, and began loading files on the second SSD. It then attempted the first of several restarts that come with this process with the new Server 2012 R2 environment.
It sucessfully modified the Windows Boot Manager before the restart, then restarted, and the setup program gave an error because it could not find the target partition on the second SSD.
The setup environment then modified the Boot Manager to "Windows Setup Rollback" and proceeded to enter an infinite loop, attempting to delete files from the unreachable M.2 drive. I manually choose Windows 10 on the boot menu, and once booted changed Windows 10 back to the default OS.
I've tried several things (turning off Secure boot, changing from UEFI to legacy bios--it won't boot at all that way) , but I can't get that second disk t... Read more

The machine came with 16GB in primary slots on bottom side.
Successfully upgraded them to 32GB.
Trouble with the top (secondary) slots underneath the keyboard.
First try (with memory installed) the machine was essentially "Dead" -- only the battery light alternated amber/white for a few seconds and the machine would power off.
Second try.  I used same brand as in bottom side.
The BIOS showed 64GB in all four slots.
HOWEVER, the machine would not boot up Windows 10 Pro.
After removing the memory and  putting back the battery, I noticed the keyboard electrical connectors to keyboard that are under the battery had worked loose.
Don't know if they were already loose when I was trying the full 64GB installed.
Could this be the reason that the BIOS could see the memory, but the OS would not start?
Just asking before I go to the effort to try another time to use 64GB.  Having to deal with the keyboard each time is a real hassle.
OR, could there be another reason for the memory under the keyboard not functioning properly?
THANKS.

I have purchased Dell products for the last 25 years and – until this experience – was a big fan of both Dell products and Dell IT support.
In October of 2016, I purchased a Precision 7710 with the Advance E-Port Plus docking station. I already had two HD Ultrasharp Dell Monitors. Despite misgivings about Windows 10 I ordered the computer with the Windows 10 OS.
The computer had display issues, so that my HD monitors looked fuzzy and pixelated. (This was not related to any particular app, as even the desktop icons looked bad.)
After several calls to Pro Support, I was told to return the computer for a refund and purchase the same computer again, which I did. (I was hesitant, because the computer is very expensive, and I had already experienced a high level of confusing around the order - for example, I never received an invoice, and the computer arrived with no paperwork - no invoice, packing slip - nothing. As a small business owner, that we very worrisome.)
Right after receiving the new computer, I had major surgery, and did not use the docking station for several weeks, because I could not sit at a desk. (This was my one major mistake, because it meant that I missed the deadline for a straight return.) When I finally did attempt to use my external monitors, the computer had the same problem. There were other, seemingly associated problems, such as the fact that the NVIDIA control panel and the Intel control panel could not detect more than one monitor. There we... Read more

Hello. Got a question and I do not know the answer nor can I find it.

The mainboard on my setup is a BIOSTAR TA790GX128M. I currently have 4GB DDR PC6400 memory (2 sets of 2X1GB Matched Sets) that I am upgrading to 8GB of DDR PC6400 memory (2 sets of 2X2GB Matched Sets) as I am getting ready to install Win 7 Pro 64 bit and I wanted the extra memory. This board has 6 SATA II slots limited to 3Gb/s. As I have an external drive that I use for storage (1TB and it is almost full with my .wav music files from my digitized LP's), I got a Speed Dragon PCI Express Combo Card so that I can use eSATA function on the drive instead of USB to connect to the computer (eSATA being faster than USB V2.0). The card says the PCIe is limited to 2.5Gb/s but I have read where the SATA II ports, even though listed as 3Gb/s, operate at a much lesser speed.

I know I need to upgrade my mainboard/cpu/memory to current standards, but I can't do that right now. It will be about a year before I can upgrade the MB/CPU/Mem.

This controller card is in the PCIe slot (one of 2 - PCI Express Gen 2 X 1) and not only does it have the eSATA port but there is also a SATA II port on it as well.

I am getting a SSD that is SATA III (Samsung EVO) for the new OS and am wondering if I should hook it up to the SATA II port on the PCIe controller card to use the PCIe slot instead of hooking the SSD to one of the 6 SATA II ports on the mainboard. 1) What does the x4 electrically mean in "PCI Express 2/3.0 x16 (x4 electrically) card slot" for slot 1 and 3?
2) I have 2 double slots GPUs and a PCIe 4x NIC card to install with one CPU. So is the best position is the 2 GPUs take slot 2 and 4 while the NIC takes slot 1.

A:Precision Tower 7910 PCIe Slot

"PCI Express 2/3.0 x16 (x4 electrically) card slot" probably means that an x16 card will physically fit into the slot, but that slot only functions as an x4 slot. So an x16 card has to be able to work with x4 connections to go in that slot.
Do you know if the 7910 supports two GPU cards, even if it has two real x16 slots?
Will there be enough space (and air circulation) to install 2 double-wide GPU cards?
is your NIC PCI-e 2.0 or 3.0? If it's PCI-e 2.0, will it work in a PCI-e 3.0 slot?
Maybe somebody else will know those answers...

Hello,
I'm considering instalation to my precision T5600 new ssd disk. I'd like to ask if it would work properly as primary OS disk if I install an SSD disk e.g. samsung sm951 or patriot hellfire M.2 PCIe NVME using Delock PCI Express x4 - NVME M.2 adapter.
I would like to install on this ssd new OS and boot from this disk.
I've already updated my BIOS to A15 version. Will it handle NVME or not?

A:Precision T5600 - SSD PCIe NVME disk instalation

Hi grzesiwek,
I'm afraid to say NVMe boot drives aren't supported on the T5600. There was a discussion on it here:

Hello!
I have installed a new Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card in my Precision T3500 into the first PCIe x16 slot and was not able to install the drivers: the screen would go blank and the computer would just freeze in the middle of installation.
That same graphics card works just fine in the second PCIe x16 slot with all the latest drivers installed and even with some overclocking of GPU memory.
When I moved the graphics card to the first PCIe x16 slot after the successfull installation of the driver, the computer would not boot and would just start beeping. When I moved the graphics card back to the second PCIe x16 slot it worked just fine.
Why would the graphics card work fine on the second PCIe x16 slot, but not on the first PCIe x16 slot? What is the difference between these two PCIe x16 slots in Precision T3500?
Thanks!

P.S. To illustrate this: when I say first PCIe x16 slot I mean the blue one, and the second PCIe x16 slot is the black one.

Hi varmatev,
Both slots should work the same so it sounds like one of them is faulty. Do all the pins on the connector look perfectly aligned?

The question is that HDD LED is constantly on. Not that it does affect functionality in any way, I'm just curious: can this be at least disabled?
Or anything that I can do to bring HDD activity information back?

Yikes! installing a second partition with Ubuntu is really hard next to Win7 on a m2 PCIe NVME.If you have been successful, your help would be greatly appreciated.I have encountered numerous problems installing Ubuntu 14.04 on a separate partition on a Precision 5510 with  1TB m2 PCIe NVME memory installed by Dell.
I started out by creating a USB with the Universal USB Installer and the Ubuntu 14.04 installer.then followed these stepswww.lifewire.com/ultimate-windows-8-1-ubuntu-dual-boot-guide-2200654  encountered two problems. 1.) When booted to try Ubuntu and then selecting the install ubuntu icon, the installer does not recognize the m2 PCIe NVME drive and failing because the installer sees < 6GB of storage. 2.) The system bios configuration SATA operations must be changed from RAID On to ACHI - This corrupts the Factory Win 7 image installed by Dell and fixing it requires reversing the bios configuration change and running windows repair. This is dead simple with on any system with a SATA  hard drive.Has anyone successfully done this? Here is the really crazy thing. I need both Ubuntu for work and windows to communicate with the most of the world.  I chose to have Win7 factory installed believing that installing Ubuntu on a second partition of the m2 PCIe NVME drive would be simple. But that means Dell's support for Ubuntu and access to the Dell factory Ubuntu 14.04 image with drivers includi... Read more

Hi friend,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are planning to purchase a T460s & have a query regarding SSD upgrade on that.
Yes you can do that as per psref All T460s can accept a single M.2 2280 drive which can be either SATA or PCIe/NVMe.
For more suggestioncheck this and this

I don't recall seing a card that will do both. You may try looking for 2 cards. I'm pretty sute you can find an X1 USB 3.0, then look for a sata3 card.

Before connecting a drive to the card, install the drivers from the disc or the manufacturer's website. If you just installed the card and then hooked up a drive to the card, more than likely, Windows will not be able to see the drive.

Ok I've look around and don't see this addressed I'm sure I missed it somewhere

Here's what I need to know for sure.

I purchased a PCIe SATA 3 4 port card its running a Marvel Drivers
My spec on in the my spec section.

I have this card installed and drivers installed in windows 7

I have a clean install windows 7 pro running AHCI mode on a onboard SATA 2 Port

I wish to move this OS drive to this new SATA 3 4 port card

Currently I have 3 ports used Port 0 is a blank Liteonit 256GB SSD: Ports 1&2 2 WD 1 GB Blacks with data. and port 3 empty awaiting my Win 7 OS Samsung 830 SSD.

My Plan is to set up a win 7 pro and win 8.1.1 pro dual boot

What I need to know is it possible to move my Win 7 SSD to this PCIe card port and would it boot or is there something I can do to make it boot. I want this win7ssd booting before I set up the win8 dual boot.

I am more than nervous about this as installing this card broke my previous Dual boot and broke both my Win7 install and win 8 install. Restoring Images and Repair installs would not make either boot, I believe this was due to the fact that I had both these OS SSD on my 2 onboard Marvell SATA3 ports I'm assuming the new Marvell drivers conflicted with the older ports. I now have these 2 ports disabled in my BIOS and Win7 clean installed on an onboard SATA 11 port

A:How to Move Win 7 OS to a PCIe SATA 3 card.

All you should have to do is the following:
1) shut down the PC
2) connect the Win7 SSD to the first SATA port on the PCIe card
3) boot the PC and enter the BIOS settings
4) set the BIOS such that the first SATA port on the PCIe card is at the top of the list of drives
5) save the BIOS settings
6) reboot

When you then reboot, the PC should boot into Win7 on the SSD.

I have a mini pcie mSATA card that I want to use for a desktop of mine. Kingston sm200s3 60GB

I believe there are only 2 options.
1. SATA > SATA adapter > mSATA card
2. PCIe slot > PCI adapter > mSATA card.

As far as 2. goes; I have found a card that fits into a PCIe slot which has an input for the mSATA card.

I know that this is not the ideal way to hook up the card but I don't see any more options.

Which is there better way to go or what am I missing?

A:Mini PCIe and adapter VS. SATA

Whatever has an mSATA interface for it will work.

From here SSD Kingston 60GB SM200S3/60G mSATA p/ Ultrabook,tablet - Atera Inform?tica

its a SATA 3 device, so for optimal performance you should use something that can guarantee enough bandwith to not bottleneck it.

PCIe bandwith depends from number of lanes used (a x1 card has one lane, a x2 card has two and so on) and the PCIe revision/version of both devices. The panel on the right here gives all speeds https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express so just multiply that by the number of lanes the card has and you will find out its bandwith. SATA 3 has 6 GB/s of theoretical max bandwith, although actual transfer speed does not go above 1 GB/s afaik.

This Mini PCIe PCI E mSATA Intel Samsung SSD SATA 3 III Adapter Card with Case | eBay

this SATA III Dual Port to mSATA X 2 w/ PCI-e Bracket | MSATA-2XS3-BKT

are examples of what you listed as 1, and stuff I would orient myself towards if my mobo had SATA 3 connectors already. Because... hey, why waste PCIe slots for that?

Hello,
few months ago I bought this PCIe SSD:HyperX Predator PCIe Gen2 x4 (M.2) SSD - 240 GB
and recently I've noticed that in HWiNFO64 program the HyperX SSD is listed as SATA 6GBs drive,
instead of nvme, also programs like User Bench Mark are telling me that the drive is performing worse than expected.
The HyperX m.2 ssd is my operating system C: drive installed with windows 10 professional(with the creators update)
I have second m.2 drive Samsung evo 960 500GB as D: drive and the HWiNFO64 program is properly recognize it as nvme m.2 SSD. My question is why the HyperX predator is recognized as ordinary SATA3 drive, and can I do something to make the system see it as nvme m.2 SSD?
my computer is DELL Precision T5600, bios version A14, 2 x xeon E5-2650 v0 CPUs, 32GB DDR3 ram.
Thank you in advance.

A:M.2 PCIe SSD recognized as SATA 6GBs SSD

I am not sure this is helpful. Is the HyperX installed in a PCie x16 slot (wired as x4)? How is the Samsung installed since it does not appear that this computer has a SSD slot (M.2 SSD)? If the Samsung is installed with a PCIe adapter is it in a PCIe x16 slot (wired as x4)? I noticed that the HyperX is PCIe 2.0 whereas the Samsung is PCIe 3.0.

Hi, Since this is my first post on the community forum, I would like to greet everyone! Does anyone know whether the M.2 connector in Thinkpad T440P provides PCIe interface or SATA? I searched the whole Internet and tried to contact Lenovo, but noone could answer the question. As the connector is supposed to be used with WWAN cards, I would guess it is PCIe.

A:T440P M.2 interfaces - SATA or PCIe?

Hello and welcome to the forumm.2 slot for double sided 2242 SSD has SATA interface. WWAN card in that slot connects to the USB bus and a couple of lines of the PCIe interface - the SIM card reader, device control, but not data bus you are talking about.
