Lenovo Yoga 520 - SSD and Active Pen

Q: Lenovo Yoga 520 - SSD and Active Pen

Hello!I got a brand new YOGA 520, which have i7-8th gen, Nvidia Graphics and sadly only 128Gb SSD + 1Tb HDD.I tried to get info everywhere i could and did not find any solution. So I'm asking if I can upgrade SSD without getting rid of Warranty (have 3y on-site). For second part, have anyone tried Lenovo Active pen 2 with this laptop? Or any other active pen (Wacom, etc.) The pen included is quite small so i will lost it in no time . Thank you all in advance

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello everyone I was wondering if anyone knows whether the Lenovo Active Pen is also compatible with the yoga 920, or whether only the Lenovo Active Pen 2 works. Moreover, I was wondering if the Lenovo Active Pen also looses contact when writing if you hold the pen close to the nub. Thanks! for your help

A:Lenovo yoga 920 compatible with Lenovo active pen

Hi huQbbTCi,

Greetings.

Lenovo active pen 1 is also compatible with Yoga 920 as shown in the accessories search tool here PART # GX80K32884. It would be less sensitive to depth perception but with palm rejection enabled then you may not have the same issue on losing contact with it.

It would also be favorable to have it tried first before any purchase specially if you have someone that have it and compare it with other active pens whichever would be comfortable and efficient to your writing style.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Santa delivered a Lenovo 510-AST looks great, santa?s Elves at the store said that a Lenovo Active Pen 1 GX80K32884 would work with it..... The laptop seems great, the usual mega GB of updates from windows, and setting Gmail up with outlook was like code breaking the CIA !!! The the pen, how can Lenovo not have instructions on how to turn it on ??????  I don?t know if its on or not, doesn?t appear in the Bluetooth device list on the laptop... So is this Active Pen computable with this laptop ?If it is, how the chuff do you turn it on ? If not compatible, what Other active pens are comparable ? frustrated... grrrrrrr

Hey Guys I'm rather confused about the pen support for the new Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15. I've read quite a bit about it and find the information quite inconsistent. Some say it does support active pen some say it will in april and some say it doesn't. What I would like to know:A.) What kind of pen technology does the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 15 support atm?B.) Are there any changes in sight? / When? / What changes?C.) Can I write on it while resting my hand on the screen aka has it palm rejection?D.) How good is it for note taking? Can it keep up with my writing speed? Links to videos where I can actually see it being used / tested would be greatly appreciated.

A:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 15 Active Pen

From what I know there isn't too much information out so far. But here's what I found out. First off, the current Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 don't support pen digitizers at all, and will not in the future.Secondly, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write apparently uses the same technology. See this thread. Here's what I know:- It's called Wacom "Active ES" as in Active Electro Static.- It's battery powered. Unlike Wacom's older technology, you need a battery in the pen.- Palm rejection is more of a driver thing and not the technology. So it works, basically.- People say it feels "different", not sure if that means better or worse.- Precision is apparently very good, perhaps even better than the older tech without battery.- Pen lag (speed) doesn't seem to be an issue. Might even be better than the older technology. Other than that I personally couldn't find any information about whatever will be built into the Thinkpad Yoga 14 and 15 Only that they call it "Active Pen" and that it will be out in April. Also that the displays will support something called "anypen" which basically means you can use any pen-shaped metal object to write on the display. But that isn't really of any interest to me because I want pressure sensitivity.

I just purchased this 2 in 1 with the Active Pen, and cannot get it to work with the drivers that Lenovo specifies, and I have also tried several different drivers from Wacom.  The Pen will pair with Bluetooth, but will not stay connected.  The batteries are all in correctly, but the pen will not stay connected or activate anything on screen.  Also, I am not able to get the touch screen to work either, so I am wondering if there is an issue with the digitizer, or that it may be missing drivers for the touchscreen and digitizer.  Does anyone have any ideas what could solve this issue?

Pretty much just as the description says. Im not sure what the problem is. When I try to download the feeldriver from Wacom it says "a supported tablet was not found" or something like that. And calling Lenovo support was the most infuriating waste of 4 hours of my life as no one seemed to know anything about it. I know the pen is compatable to the latpop. Its the only one that is. So if anyone can help me find out why the driver says that when I download it and why the pen isn't being recognized i'd love you forever. Seriously.

Hi, can someone confirm that all Yoga 720 models work with a Lenovo Active Pen? The only model that's sold with a pen is $600 more expensive than the next most expensive model (with basically the same spec minus the pen). Given that a pen isn't anywhere near $600, it gives me concern that the rest of the models (without an included pen) won't work with a pen that could be purchased separately. Thanks.

Hello,I just bought my lenovo yoga 720 not long ago along with the active pen and its not working as it should. The pen is a little lag-ish. Like....I can draw only on the one side of the pen, when i turn the pen around it doesn't draw anymore. I tried to replace the nib, but it was the same as before. So I was wondering if some of you also had this issue. Is there a way to solve it? Is it the pen's or laotop's fault? Thanks for any advice!

I would not be surprised if this is completely operator error - I've never used a stylus / pen for a computer before.  I just received my Yoga 920, along with an Active Pen 2.  I was able to sync the pen to the bluetooth, and double clicking the top button brings up the screen sketch application, but I cannot otherwise get the pen to work.  I can write in the screen sketch with my finger, but the pen does nothing.  Is there a driver or application I need?  On the instructions I found here:https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/options/lenovo_active_pen2_qsg_v2.0_201705.pdfIt says "to customize the button functions use Wacom pen application" so I downloaded that from online.  It doesn't recognize that my pen is linked, even though the bluetooth menu says it is, and upon further reading on the Wacom app site, it does not appear that the Active Pen 2 is supported. Is there something I'm missing or not doing correctly?  I don't see any similar problem in these forums, at least not specific to the yoga 920.

Hello, I just bought a Lenovo yoga 520 from a local retailer yesterday. It came with the Lenovo Active Pen. I tried to draw on Paint Tool SAI at night and I would just like to ask if it is normal that the tablet screen register my pinky (since it touches the screen first before the pen tip) before the actual pen? It is a bit distruptive when i am drawing because it will create a stroke by my pinky which I do not want. This morning when I tried to draw again, the pen to have some odd behavior. If I do a quick stroke/flick and lift my pen away from the screen, the stroke will not follow through and the screen is temporarily disabled and does not respond to mouse clicks or hand touches (as if I did not lift the pen up at all.) I have to tap the screen again with my pen and the stroke will connect to where I tapped. This issue does not happen when I wear a piece of cloth on my palm or if I draw the stroke slowly and life it up slowly. So I would just like to ask:1. If I buy a Bamboo styus (which I am aware is compatible with Yoga 520,) will I be able to draw faster strokes with smoother follow through?2. Is this a normal problem faced by fellow artists too?

Hello folks, so far I really like the Yoga 720 but I have this really strange problem when I'm drawing on the screen. Every time I draw slowly (and sometimes even when I draw quickly) my lines become jittery and not in the wobbly sense. More in the "leaving-the-road" kind of way. Here is a video proof of my issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyrS63BTJ6AI really want to use this tablet for drawing but this annoys the hell out of me. Is this normal? Is it a driver problem?I already uninstalled and reinstalled the Wacom Pen Driver and I checked the box "Ignore touch input when I'm using pen" in the Windows Ink menu.I'm having the 1080p HD Model of the Yoga 720 15 Inch with the 256 gb SSD. The pen I'm using is the active Pen 2 which feels really nice with the rubber tip. I used all kinds of applications like Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, Windows Ink sketch, Sketchable and so on. I have the same problem in all of them. Can anyone please help me? I really like this tablet. Greetings

Since you have to hunt around different Lenovo sites (and other sites) to find out about these softwares, I decided to make a post to get feedback from actual Yoga owners on how these programs interact, what they do, which ones are prerequisite, and which ones are unnecessary. Please don't take this as a blanket answer. This is just what I have found. It might be right - it might be wrong. I'm looking for others to post their experiences as well. Lenovo System Interface Foundation Driver - Necessary prerequisite (missing driver in device manager without it). It allows the Lenovo Utility and Lenovo Companion to work. Lenovo Yoga Mode Control - Necessary if you want to use your yoga to seemlessly change between all the different modes (laptop, tablet, tent, stand). This software is responsible for autorotating and putting Windows into tablet mode. Lenovo Utility - Recommended(?) This one I'm not too sure on. I remember that I was missing some function that I wanted but I can't remember what it was now. Maybe battery cycle count and health? Lenovo Companion - I don't have this one installed and don't think it's necessary but would like someone else to shed some light here.

So I have a Lenovo Flex 5 and a Lenovo Active Pen and the touchscreen works great with it. When I use writeIt by Lenovo, the pen has pressure sensitivity, but when I use any other software, I can't use that feature, and it is a pretty important one. Specifically, I need to use it with GIMP. I'm not sure if there's anything I can configure on that end for pressure sensitivity, but I hope there is some way I can use the pen for pressure sensitivity. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Disclaimer: I received the Yoga 920 as a review loaner unit from Lenovo. All opinions are my own, nobody is paying for my review, and no one is reviewing this content before it's posted.

Left: Yoga 920 in Bronze. Right: Yoga 910 in Silver

On the surface, both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 look nearly identical, but in my testing, I prefer one over the other. Let's dig deeper to see the differences between the two!To get this out of the way, both machines have 1TB PCIe storage, 16GB memory, and the Yoga 910 has the 7th gen i7-7550U processor, and the Yoga 920 has the 8th gen i7-8550U processor.

Hardware & Design
Both the Yoga 910 and Yoga 920 are built out of aluminum, which gives them a high quality feel to them.  Both laptops have the keyboard integrated into the chassis, which means less keyboard flex. One thing that I find better in the Yoga 920 is the fact that it's all smooth edges around.  The Yoga 910 has pretty sharp edges which means you could scratch your surface or yourself.  The sharp edges of the Yoga 910 was a common complaint, and I'm glad they rectified it.

The Yoga 920 also has a little slit on the display lid that makes it much easier to open the lap... Read more

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

I've been looking around and found a few people who are very displeased with the logo startup/boot logo (example1, example2), but no way to change it as of yet. Is it possible without too much hassle? I know it's not a big deal but the logo is simply terrible in so many ways. If nothing, then at least I'm raising awareness and maybe Lenovo will choose a better graphic designer for our collective startup screens. I mean, seriously? Is that the best you could come up with?

I read other posts and none specifically addressed this for the 920 and the use of what is actually a good Lenovo config tool seems to be poorly documented.   I would think it would be the same for any Yoga model with Windows 10 and Lenovo Vantage installed.   I can't seem to find a version for Vantage, so hopefully this works on all versions.    1) Find and open Lenovo Vantage on your machine (use Cortana if needed).   This is the Responsive view and yours may look different...don't worry, options are the same.  Click on Hardware settings  2)  Click on Input (again, responsive view...whatever view you have should have this button labeled the same)  3)  This will open the Hardware Setting - Input UI.   Under 'Function Keys' click on the one that is labeled 'F1-F12' (should look like below, highlighted in blue) to make that the the Function the default setting for those keys...to further clarify: it will now be a Function Key (F1-F12) by default.    With this change, you will press the FN+ one of the function key for the Hot Key option (e.g. FN+F1=mute/unmute, FN+F2=volume down, etc.)     4)  Your change is already saved, so you can now X-out (click X in the upper right) of the pop-up windows created by that were created
