How to Remove File Broken Link from Uninstall List?

Q: How to Remove File Broken Link from Uninstall List?

I uninstalled a program using the program's uninstaller, which was successful, but it left its file name in the Windows uninstaller list. When I click "uninstall" to clear it off, I get an error message that the "target file does not exist" and the file name will not remove from the list. So how do I clear this file off of the uninstall list when the program no longer exists?

Thanks!
Max

Preferred Solution: How to Remove File Broken Link from Uninstall List?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good morning.

I'm using Word 2003. I have an index list with each item being hyperlinked to the correct document. All of these links work except one. When I try to open the troublesome link I get the following message: "Cannot open the specified file".

All of these documents are kept in the same folder, the same folder the index is also saved in. I have already tried removing this link and adding it again but no luck. With only this one. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

is there any way to remove program from list of installed software (Programs in Control Panel) but not to actually uninstall it?
I want just to remove program name from the list, but not to uninstall it.
I have found many examples to tweak registry in case when program is removed but still is shown in the program list, but that is not what I want.

Title:  SharePoint 2010 document broken link due to unrecognized File protocol: ms-word
Please help point me in the right direction.  I checked the File association on Internet settings and document type docx is associated with Word, but it won't open.

Try refining this symptom description.  What exactly do you mean by "it won't open"?  Answering that might explain why you are posting this in an IE forum.  E.g. right-click, Copy Shortcut whatever it is that you are calling
a "broken link" and Paste it here.
Otherwise, try right-click, Save target as... to put the file into your Downloads (Ctrl-j) and then use right-click, Properties to find its
full path and name.  Note that that would be quite different from what the Copy Shortcut step would have shown.
Next I suspect that the Set Associations GUI tool may not be showing you the correct information.  FWIW it certainly doesn't show me the correct information in W8.1.  So, I would try checking if you have an explicit association and file type combination
by using the assoc and ftype commands in a cmd window.  In fact, instead of just showing the ftype for the current association I would use this:
    ftype  |  find  /i  "word"
Then you could take the most appropriate template (not necessarily the one pointed to by the assoc command) and fill it in on a Run... dialog (or a ... Read more

i've recently upgraded to windows xp. how can i completely remove a program and all of its components without using uninstall. uninstall won't work becuase some log file is missing..so it won't continue.

[email protected]

A:uninstall can't remove prgm b/c a log file is missing

fatmike,

any chance you can d/load the program again so as to capture the missing log file?

have you looked in Start> Find> Files and Folders .........and entered the "some log file" that is missing by name to attempt to locate it?

Does this program have it's own uninstall engine?

You can go to windows explorer and find the program folder and look see what files are there and whats not in there.

Last resort would be to start deleting the program files in question but that is going to leave written reg. entries and may cause you grief.

Really without the name of the program you want to remove and the name of the missing "some log file" thats all I can suggest.

I installed Arduino software, part of which included installing a number of drivers. I uninstalled the software using the internal software uninstall feature. Apparently it removed the drivers, but for some reason they still show up in the Windows install/uninstall list. I try to uninstall them using the Windows uninstaller, but I get an error stating that the drivers are not there (at that address). The problem is, I cannot re-install the drivers, because for some reason they still show as being installed by the Windows installer and the software refuses to re-install.

So, how do I remove a file name from the install/uninstall list on Windows 10? A file name for a file that is already deleted?

Thanks!

A:Cannot Uninstall Drivers from Install/Uninstall List - Windows 10

Hi, Geek uninstaller (free) offers a range of removal options if you right click an entry.

However, you may have parts of the program left over.

1. Does the program's site offer a manual uninstaller or uninstall instruction?
2. Check the various folders that may have been created when you installed it for leftovers.
(Try Locate32 (free) - let it index all your files then you can quickly check for anything related to the name of your program on a find-as -you-type basis).
If you find any exe's left over, then use
Revo (free)
to force uninstall these.

Your problem will be knowing if anything is left over that you don't want.

Finally you can search the registry.
Try Regscanner (free) as this lists all found unlike Regedit which is 1 by 1.

Create a system restore point or back up your registry and delete remnants.

Good luck!

Would so appreciate any help with this Adobe Reader uninstall....to start...I use this program occasionally to print postage for packages and the site requires a download of the Adobe program....I downloaded it and uninstalled it with ease about 2 weeks ago.  Then, a few days ago I downloaded it again with the intent of using it and uninstalling it--and it refused to work/open at all.  I tried numerous times to reinstall it and then uninstall it but to not avail....it refuses to run or to uninstall.

When I click on Change/Remove in my Add/Remove Programs Menu....I get a pop-up with a message at the top that says:  "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is not available."......to the right of this statement it has two boxes that offer the options of OK or Cancel....then beneath that statement it says:  "Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'AcroRead.msi in the box below'....".....then there is a window under that that says "use source" above it and "Browse" to the right with the following typed into it:  C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Setup\{AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-AB0000000001}\

A:Uninstall Adobe Reader XI (11.0.6) won't uninstall/remove pop-up loop persists

Hello, and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

The error is occuring because the installer is looking for files in a temp folder that are no longer there.

Extra care is needed with this tool. Download Microsoft Installer Cleanup.  Run it in an admin account and only select Adobe Reader XI if it is in the list (If it is not in the list exit out) and then press the remove button making absolutely sure no other programs other than Adobe Reader is selected. Then I would try reinstalling Adobe Reader again.

I would recommend that you do not constantly uninstall and install the program.

Firstly, sorry for any possible interruption

I have the following problems and they seem to insist despite many of the solutions I've tried:
It must be something wrong with Control Panel / Programs / Programs and Features:
* Uninstall a program
* Turn windows features on or off
* View installed updates

-> I cant uninstall a program, the uninstall a program does nothing.
-> I'm trying to open "turn windows features on or off" and it says Bad image: -> osbaseln.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.
-> Also pressing the "View installed updates" shows the following error: Windows cannot find '::_26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064}....: -//- }' Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.

I remember having the problem after installing the latest updates. I tried system restore days before the event and the problems still insist. I'm not sure if this is the cause but it was as far as I can remember the last 'modification' for the system. I sure I did a disk defragment, browsing the web but I don't think this will affect the system.

And I'm sure I don't visit any 'weird' sites, mostly university forums, but just to be sure I scanned the whole computer with AVG. It found nothing as it always does. I've never had a virus issue from the first day I installed Windows 7, and it's almost 2 years since then.

Hi,

I searched and found allot of similar problems but not exactly this one and it's driving me crazy. I should mention i have a vista business 64bit.
In the start menu theres the Documents link (top right). I messed around with it long ago and now it doesn't work at all. When i click it nothing happens. When I right-click it i get only 3 options - (Copy,Rename,Properties). When I choose properties from the right click menu I get a blank general properties windows (no file name, no move location, size 0 - like a properties window for a file that doesn't exist)When I run "shell: documents" it doesn't exist. (added space to avoid smiley)I created a folder "Documents" under my profile directory (which exists and works) and it didnt help.My "Personal" shell link also doesn't work.Everything else works (my music, my pictures, etc...)The registry fields for the folder location are correct. Its like theres no way to bring it back!
Anyone knows what I can do?

HELP!
and Thanks of course

UPDATE:
- I tried to do option 2 of the "Move Location" Tutorial here at the site. It failed because after creating a new folder and setting the registry to point to it nothing changed - the folder didnt have a "Location" tab in the properties window.

I have a free program called MRU Blaster. I was checking some of the functions on it last night and ran across something called Broken Links. I ran it on my WIN ME and came up with a list of items ending in .ink. What does this mean? Is it alright to delete them

A:Solved: What is a Broken Link

It's actually .lnk not .ink. They are safe to delete, but I've never used MRU Blaster so I have no idea if it will work correctly. My suggestion is to use a program like CCleaner to delete them all rather than your current program.

EDIT: Is it MRU-Blaster from Javacool? If so, then the program is probably safe to use.

I normally come here to download TDSSkiller. Only becuase its where I book marked it. We IT people are creatures of habbit. Anyway, I went to download the software on a clients computer to check for the possiblity of a rootkit, and it seems like the link is broken... Using my googlefu, I found that if you would like to download TDSSkiller from Kaspersky you will have to provide some information... like your email. *SIGH*

I have a buddys computer that I tried to remove the spyware from. It ended up breaking the internet connection (I think). After the removal of almost 1600 pcs. of spyware, and 3 viruses, the puter would only flash the "compac" logo, try to load xp pro, only to start the process all over again. He lost the cd for recovery, then found it. I recovered the system and saved his files. The computer now boots to the "User accounts" screen, but when I click on one of the users, a box pops up and tells me that the install has to be activated by microsoft before any of the users can log on. It says, would you like to activate now. I click yes, the screen says "saving settings"(for user).
I ran the LSP fix, but the internet link is still broken. So, I don't know what to do. I really need someone to walk me through this thing. It is probably something simple. As you can probably tell, I am not a computer guru, by any means. If it will help, my buddy told me to do a complete install and to erase all of the contents of the drive.
Thanks in advance.

Hello, I am having trouble locating the right registry file for Logmein. I really use this program a lot for work , but the problem is that I am using a family computer and my little 18 year old brother keeps messing with the program by either right clicking it and exiting it out or removing it completely from the add or remove programs. He does this because he thinks that it will put viruses on the computer, I tried asking him to stop but it is like trying to convince a rock to move for you.

So, what I'd like to do is:

1.)Hide the program in add/remove list
2.)Use the registry to remove the icon by the clock in the system tray.
3.)Make this program almost undetectable to a moderately computer literate person.

A:Don't know how to remove logmein from system tray & add or remove programs list

couple of ways of going about it

1. create him a separate account and set it to standard user so he doesn't have the rights and create a password on your account.

CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I HAVE NOT TESTED THE FOLLOWING.

2. i haven't tested this with logmein and this may corrupt your installation and make it very hard to repair unless you know what you are doing.
goto regedit hklm>software>microsoft>windows>current version>uninstall> hit F3 (search) and type logmein or go through the list manually until you find it.

back up the key by right clicking the logmein key and click export save it somewhere safe! then delete the key, this *should* remove the add/remove programs info but i am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong. See below image for example on this step.

note: logmein may be under a clsid (string of numbers) or under logmein or similar for the key. the below example shows where to click.

try running logmein, if it fails to work, run the reg file you exported before you deleted it and it will put the information back. abandon this and go back to step 1.

You should be able to remove the system tray icon from within the software itself, there is probably a tick box somewhere, if not try running (start>run) msconfig and clicking the startup tab. there should be a logmein entry there, untick the box and restart your pc. on the message box that pops up tick the box saying you are aware youve changed system config etc and don... Hi. . .

Welcome back.

When you right-click on Computer and select Properties the following screen should appear where you can then select Device Manager - top left.

I am not following your reference to "hardware".
