I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yesterday it got damp when water leaked from a water bottleClick to expand...

did it actually get wet ?, i suspect it did

i would allow it to completely dry out - maybe putting in an airing cupboard or somewhere warm

then take the battery out and the power adapter and hold the power key on for 60 seconds

if it still does not work , i suspect the pc has been damaged

to recover the data - you maybe able to remove the harddrive and then using an adapter - plug it in to a USB port on another PC and access the files
just depends on if the water also caused damage to the harddrive

Hello

My ultrabook won't charge, feels like out of the blue, I did have to wiggle the connector in a bit in the last few months but a handful of times while using sitting on a sofa so didn't think anything wrong.

It has been very wet here in Dublin and I do travel by bike but that's nothing new, I haven't been caught in a downpour, the laptop is always in its "case logic" case and my bag carrier has a special laptop section and waterproof overcover which I use if vague threat of rain.

As its an ultrabook, I now realise I cannot remove the battery without a screwdriver.

I'm a mature medical student, my uni doesn't cover laptop support.

i've probably an hour left on the battery. I will put in a warm place overnight and I am kind of up the creek if no resolution

Any help greatly appreciated

I did some research and found that they mention disabling the Secure Boot option, but that is not an option under the Security tab. Where it should be, is a setting for TPM. Help please.

Hello everyone,

As funny as my question may sound ... it's actually serious!
I have big concerns over battery life (not so much of the one of a single recharge, but the one affecting the "life" of the notebook itself!) because there doesn`t even seem to be a way to COMPLETELY turn this notebook off! This feels like a joke for a notebook advertising with an "eco" label supposed to help reduce wasting natural resources (which was an important part for my purchase decision).

When I hibernate the notebook or turn it off by long-pressing the "Power" button, the LED's indicating battery mode etc. are still on, by that the battery is slightly drained even when the notebook is turned off. While the LED's will of course certainly not use a lot of power, it means that the next time I'm plugging in my computer, +a new recharging cycle is initiated+ which could have been avoided without that. With a battery usually surviving 1000 recharging cycles, this will force me to buy a new battery (by the way: what a shame and how "yesterday" that the battery is built-in and not replaceable by the buyer!) within less than 2 years if I plug off a few times every day.

Alltogether this sounds very much like "planned obsolescence" and I am annoyed by the mere thought supporting something like that. And basically I am very happy with the Z930, so the more I am frustrated by this completely pointless battery drain. Any idea how to turn off the... Read more

So well, I kind of rode myself into a lot of trouble. More and more as i applied more pressure to solving a certain problem.
The result is a complete wiped disk, wiped off all recovery data, so i cant get back to a former state.

I organised the disk with diskpart commandos.
i have a bootable windows 10 usb stick, from which i intend to install it freshly.
But the installation always fails at the end saying "Boot configuration couldnt be updated".
I tried to build the boot data from scratch. but even that fails. most likely as there is no finished windows installation available.

How can i get my System back to work? Please help. I invested about 20 hours with this now.

If you need more Information, i will gladly provide it.

Hello!

I have a Toshiba Portege Z930-D3S laptop. I wanted to run a system recovery and did everything exactly as in the manual http://forums.toshiba.com/tshb/attac.../1/Z930_EN.pdf page 4-24, Section System recovery Options. The tool told me that the recovery partition is empty (or something like this) and the recovery cannot be performed. I definitely did not erase it and do not how it can be. Then there was an option to erase sdd and I thought that this might help (don't ask me why) and that the tool would erase everything but the recovery partition. So, I chose it.

Now I have the frozen screen with "Toshiba Leading Innovation" and cannot enter any menu neither by pressing 0, nor by holding F8. I cannon restart the laptop, it seems that it simply fall asleep when I press the power button.

Please, help me to recover the system.

My Toshiba PORTEGE Z930-13U does not boot, the screen stays black, not even the Toshiba logo appears and no windows starting screen appears. All LEDs light up after pressing the power button, except the internal storage drive light (see foto attached). I don't think it is a graphic card issue, there have never been any problems with the graphic card.
This problem has already happened sometimes in the past. But usually after some days pressing the power button from time to time it used to suddendly turn on again and then work normally. This time however, already several weeks have passed and my notebook does not turn on. I use Windows 7. Can anybody help me with this? Any help is very much appreciated. Hello
I have a toshiba portege z930 pt234e With Windows 7 Professional
I connected the external optical drive and was running fine
But when I installed the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator, the external optical drive disappeared
When I open the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator, Shows, No HDD Recovery Area!
I want to make a Recovery disk of the system

A:Portege Z930 - Toshiba Recovery Media Creator issue

Hi

The Recovery Media Creator is an Toshiba tool which requires the Toshiba image files in order to create the recovery disk. The image files are placed on a different partition called HDD recovery partition.

If the HDD has been modified or this partition deleted, the recovery media creator will not be able to find the image files and you will not be able to create such disk.

So my question is: did you reinstall the Win 7 at your own hand? Did you modify the HDD in the past?

Hi NestorG,
Please check if you hear any noise from the fan of the computer. I would recommend you to try the below mentioned steps:
Clean the air vents of the computer. Below are the steps to clean the air vents:

Check the vents on the computer to see if they are covered with dust and not allowing heat and air to pass through
Turn off the System
Unplug the AC Adapter
Remove the Battery
Use Compressed Air to blow the dust out of the vents

Note: Please use compressed air can. When using compressed air can, use the can according to the directions on the side of the can as you can cause damage to the computer if used incorrectly.
The latest BIOS available for this system model is A12. Here is the link http://dell.to/TDQ2yN .
Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that: *Battery is 10%> or >10% charged *Battery charger should be connected *No external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected. *All other programs should be closed and documents saved
Alternatively, check the CPU usage of the computer. To check the CPU usage:

Right click on the taskbar, choose ‘Start Task manager’
Click the "Performance" tab. In this screen, the first box shows the percentage of CPU usage
Then click on ‘Processes’ tab, click on ‘CPU’ tab once and check for the application with the maximum CPU usage.

After many months biding my time I have just embarked upon upgrading my Portege Z930-11G to Windows 8 Pro.

Largely this has gone to plan with the exception that after running the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant I've lost the Fn key display and about half the keys no longer seem to function at all.

The only key I ever used routinely is the Fn+F8 option to turn WiFi on/off.

So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.

There must, surely, be a mean to do this but I can't find it. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now as I have a wired LAN in the house but once I get out on the road I'm going to struggle without WiFi.

Before running the upgrade assistant the Fn key brought the key display up across the top of the screen and I surely wish I'd turned WiFi on at that point.

The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the ability to do anything other than disable five on screen notifications for keyboard backlight, power plan, touch pad, cursor overlay and numeric overlay.

All help gratefully received.

Andrew

A:Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after Win 8 upgrade - cannot turn WiFi on/off

> So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
First of all you can enable and disable the WiFi using function key but you can also enable the WLan in Windows 8 settings
Win key + C -> Settings -> Change PC settings -> Wireless

Now you can use the wireless devices slider to enable or disable the WLan.

But to get the FN key working you have to install the +Toshiba Function Key Utility+ for Win 8 and +Toshiba System Driver+ for Win 8

Hi all =). I'm getting a computer made with a 450w power supply. I'm getting a Geforce 6800 Ultra at least, but the company recommends a 480w supply for this card. I've heard of people having problems with their power supply not being able to cope with this card, but I don't know exactly at what power their power supplies ran. Will I run into any problems with the power supply I'm getting, or should I upgrade to 480w or more?

Don't know if you need this information also, but I think this may also effect my power supply:

Asus K8V SE Deluxe Motherboard
Athlon 64 3400+
1.5 GB pc3200 DDR Ram
120 GB HDD

Also heard that AMD uses less power than Intel or something...sooo I was thinking that perhaps my graphics card will not be affected as much because of this...but dunno. Help would be greatly appreciated =D.

A:Regarding Geforce 6800 Ultra, Ultra Extreme, or Asus v9999 Ultra Deluxe

One, Use a title once.

Two, nope nVIDIA GeForce 6800 families or newer REQUIRES 480w of psu minimum, PERIOD. it is not matter how much watts amd or intel uses, what you means that you must have 480w or higher to have GF 6800 working properly.

Recommendation, get ATI Radeon 9600XT or 9800XT, they merely used up less than 350w.

Lucan

You will get better games or things out of ATI instead of nVIDIA due to power usages

Maybe your display is out. Try to turn on the computer and and do what you really do like enter a hdd password or something like that that will get you to windows login.. And try to look at the screen closely.. Without lcd light things are also visible.. If you see things then your lcd is gone if nothing is visible then try to connect your laptop to external output by vga or hdmi to check graphics unit is ok..

My daughter's year-old Toshiba Satellite A135-S2246 laptop was working fine. Although it has what we believe to be a good battery, she keeps it plugged into the a/c adapter to the wall supply. It went into sleep mode at night, but when she tried to wake it next morning, it was stone dead. No indicator lights, no beeps, nothing.

I have a theory that the problem may be due to a bad a/c adapter that let the battery drain and not recharge. If that's the cause, I'll simply replace the adapter.

If that's not the problem, it's probably something inside related to power supply. I've looked online for a downloadable troubleshooting/repair manual, with no luck. I've opened other laptops, but never a Toshiba. How difficult will it be to open it? Any special tricks or tips?

Any ideas where I could view a manual that describes dis-assembly?

Also, if the battery is totally dead or removed, will the computer run on the a/c adapter alone?

Finally, if I'm able to open the computer, any suggestions as to what I should look for? Could there be an internal fuse or circuit breaker?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, I have had a Toshiba Satellite A665 for a few years now and have had no major problems up until now.

The first thing that happened is it would shut down randomly while I was using it. I turned it back on a few times and it worked for a while (maybe a few hours) before I noticed its next symptom. I had it plugged into the AC adapter and I started noticing it would only charge for 36 seconds at a time (yes I timed it) and then stop. If I unplugged it and plugged it back in it would work for another 36 seconds.

I then noticed that even though it was plugged in the battery indicator said 0% and not charging. Then it shut off again and I haven't been able to start it since. Now when I plug it in a white light just blinks repeatedly but nothing happens when I press power.

I have removed the battery, drained the power, replaced it, nothing. I have removed and reinserted the RAM, hard drive, and dvd drive, nothing.

Even worse, I put my hard drive in my other Toshiba Satellite, it booted once and now that one has THE SAME PROBLEM and won't start either. I am beyond frustrated and don't know what the hell's going on.

Thanks to anyone who tries to help...

A:Toshiba Satellite won't turn on

Not sure why your other Tosh wouldn't fire up but read on line about one guy who removed the battery for a short while with the AC cord plugged in and then put it back in.

This apparently resets the circuitry as it severs the memory from that battery and the computer "thinks" it's getting a new battery.

If your Tosh is modern enough to have a recovery partition, will it boot up into recovery mode by tapping F8 on boot up or clearing the BIOS may help (?)

I tried to solve it through forum advice (removing battery, holding down power button for 30 up to 60 seconds) but this made no difference.
Without plugged in power cable, even indicators are not lighting.

So can anyone suggest how to fix it? (Unfortunately there is not any official Toshiba Service Center in our region, Uzbekistan).

Thanks in advace.

Hi guys, back after a few months away from this great site/forum.

I have a question regarding the CHAINTECH VNF4/Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard I was searching all over the web but can't seem to find out if this motherboard will support the new AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU? It says it supports the AMD 64 & 64 FX CPUs, but what about AMD 64 X2(dual core) 939 CPU?

If anyone here can help me out, I'd be grateful. Thanks.

Most nForce4 based motherboards support such CPUs but not all of them do so out-of-the-box. Make sure to have a motherboard from the latest production batch. If not, it might be handy to have a single-core to flash the BIOS in case it doesn't want to power up with the dual-core one.

Hello everyone.
I have a toshiba satellite L 50 B and when I press the power button, the device turns on (no image, but the power button turn on and the orange led below light up), but at the second turn off. It has all the appearance of being a short circuit, but I do not know where it is taking place. If I remove the RAM the laptop turns on, but obviously does not give an image, it does not turn off at the second. I have tried with many modules of RAM memories that in other equipment they work perfectly and even a colleague has left me the motherboard of his equipment and does exactly the same problem.
I've also tried another power button and another DC-IN cable and it does exactly the same thing, it turns on, but it shuts down at the second.
I think it is a short circuit, but it is rare that it happens to two motherboards equals and also, I do not note that any component of the motherboard is hot when I connect it to the electrical network (the white LED indicates that it reaches power is turned on).
A greeting and await your responses.
