Bypassing Admin Pass on WinXP

Q: Bypassing Admin Pass on WinXP

I recently got a hand-me-down Dell 6400 Inspiron Laptop from a company I work for and unfortunately, it's inaccessible with an admininstrator password that was set by a former employee. I've made several attempts by going into "safemode", but it is still giving me the same problem only this time, it has the previous person's user name and administrator link. I tried going in without a password using the administrator icon, but it's locked also and requires a password.

It's a little difficult reaching the person who used the laptop before me because I don't have current contact information. It's been frustrating for the past two weeks but I would like to resolve my situation on my own before I suddenly have the urge to give up and take it somewhere or to someone to fix it.

Any response to my inquiry is greatly appreciated and thank you for reading my message.

Still holding strong,
Lois in Kapolei

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, so I will give you a bit of back story so you know where I am coming from. My old roommate gave me a Toshiba Satellite laptop awhile ago, which he got from a family friend. It has been collectiong dust for awhile, and I lost touch with the roommate.

My problem: the original user had full Admin privileges on his account. He set UAC to the max. He had a password so I could not access the Admin account. I created a new account, but the UAC is denying my access to everything. I cannot install programs, defrag, do system restores or virtually anything else that would be helpful. When I try to do one of these things, the UAC prompts me to enter a password, but does not give me a space to do it.

I went into safemode and changed the password on that Admin account. So, I now have access to the two main accounts on the system, but still no admin privileges (even though the computer originally said that that account had admin abilities). Is there any way to get admin privileges back?

Any help would be very appreciated. Thank you! David

A:Need Help Bypassing UAC with No Admin Privledges

Hello Dr Haynes, and welcome to Seven Forums

I'm sorry, but we cannot help you to bypass the security or password of another user account. Especially since you are not the administrator.

The only thing I can suggest is to do a clean install of Windows to start fresh with what you wanted.

hi guys and gals, glad to be here,

I really hope someone can help with this

my girlfriend is currently running on a windows xp laptop, she has a brother who is a pain in the a**,
we don't know how he knows how to but, he's managed to bypass her administrator password to get on her computer and do what ever the hell he wants to, which has been making her upset due to private material being on there for him to just skim though at his leisure
however,
my girlfriends gone to go on her computer tonight to find her laptop is empty, as in there is nothing on it, a clean version of windows, apart from being very upset as she's lost hundreds of hundreds of photos that mean a lot to her, she's also lost a lot of college work which has taken her a long time to do,

system restore is out of the question as its a clean wipe

i was wondering if there was any way to get this material back, and in future is there ANYthing we can do to stop him hacking into her computer,
and what do you think he's done to wipe it?
many thanks.

Please don't rush to assume that data is gone- brother may just have made a new partition and installled there to fool you.

There are pranks that do what you describe; might not be a prank, just telling you what I know.

Your chances to recover files are pretty good but less than they usually would be, because the kid wrote to the hard drive after the format by installing Windows....... it's a coin toss as to what you may be able to get back that is usable.

It's not predictable but there is software that can show you various file types, those it can find good condition, and those that are corrupted, produced in a list, and it is free to just look for them.....you may have to pay to actually recover files. There may be absolutely free software also, I just might not have heard of it or used it. I've only used one software of this type and the license to get files fack only cost $25. But> the owner just stopped using the computer, there was no new install of Windows-

There are some experienced people here so let me ask one I know of that deals with recovery often to stop by .

If the password was for an Administrator level user account, for example, Jane..... then he could have just booted into Safe Mode and logged on to the buiilt in account named Administrator this account does not show in Normal Mode only in Safe Mode in XP HOme Edition. The default Administrator password is blank.

Hi there and welcome to TSF.

I'm afraid we can't help you to circumvent restrictions on a computer, as whilst your query may be genuine, we have no way of knowing. I suggest you get in touch with the school that the computer came from and get them to format it.

You need to take this up with whomever is the Admin/IT rep for that domain, IMO.

It is against forum rules to attempt to help someone to circumvent security implementations on a system. BIOS passwords are such.

Try the RUNAS cmd.

Make sure you replace AdminAccount with the correct administrator account name.

OK guys, here's one for ya and so far none of my techie friends have come up with a solution.

I have an Acer 2012 WLMi laptop that unfortunately took a drink across its keyboard. I have purchased a new keyboard but unfortunately it does not work, all I can assume is that I fried the bridge.

I am unable to plug in a USB keyboard because I don't have administrator privileges, when I try, I am asked for the admin name & password, neither of which I can remember.

When I boot up, I get to the welcome screen and because I can't use the keyboard to log in as myself, I have to log in as a guest. When I then try to plug in any USB hardware, I'm told I don't have sufficient privileges.

I can't help but think that knowing Microsoft's cavalier attitude towards security, that there must be a way around this. Unfortunately neither my techie frinds nor I have found it yet.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated but please bear in mind: I CANNOT USE A KEYBOARD!

Thanks in anticipation.

A:Admin pass bypass - no keyboard available

Unfortunately we cannot assist you with bypassing the administrator password. The username would be administrator (unless you changed it) and the password defaults to no password unless you set one when windows was installed.

I've never been prompted for username/password when installing a USB keyboard, just plug it in before starting your PC up and see if it works (can you get into the BIOS with the USB keyboard?)

I have recently ran into an issue that is probably not too uncommon but I am having issues with. I currently forgot my password for my admin account on my laptop that runs on windows vista, i have looked up ways to bypass this issue and have ran into some issues along the way so first i looked up a password rescuer online but figured that i would have a hard time running it because my pass is more than 14 characters long. i also tried to run a system restore on it for an earlier time before i changed the password that i have currently forgot but an error keeps coming up due to a corrupted file on my c drive. all i want to do is gain access to my admin account so i can back up the files that are precious to me so i can run a factory restore on my computer then have it running clean again. Anyhow, I looked online for some other ideas and im currently reading and looking into ways to bypass the admin account by using a sticky keys trick the windows vista password or offline enabling the built in admin account on vista. The trouble that I am having is that i made it to where my files were viewable and accessable only through the admin account, does that mean they are encrypted? also would doing these tricks possibly delete my files or make them unaccessable? i also dont have a vista or windows setup dvd could i possibly do anything to bypass the admin account to keep my files, without the dvd? thank you so much, i know im in one heck of a pickle any help is very appreciated.

Is there a way to reset and erased the computer to its original factory settings? I also read I may need to buy a CD or download a rest to a cd or usb on another computer. Is there a reputable website to reset or refresh that is cheap or preferably free

Afternoon,

Having recently (today) inherited my company's IT support role (Without any real training / qualifications ) I'm coming across a number of small issues, one of which is the following:

All machines at my company are independently managed by their own (local) Administrator account, across the board the Username and Pass to access the Admin account is the same... except for a single machine.

It seems this machine has a differing password to the other machines, unfortunately the previous administrator is no longer contactable, I however require access to the administrator account. To the best of my knowledge he didn't set-up a Password Reset Disk either.

I've read about various 3rd party tools which can enable the resetting of the Administrator Password but am loathe to try them without first hand confirmation of their validity etc (On my head be it and so forth)

Is there any method to determine what the Admin pass may be, or should I plump for a 3rd party tool to aid in the resetting of the pass? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for which to use?

If it makes any difference, the machines are networked to a Mac Xserve server - though as I understand it, I wont be able to access locally stored passwords through the server itself?

Many thanks for any light that can be shed upon this issue

Mike

Most of the advice I've seen on this subject assumes that either the folders do not exist or that the shortcuts within the folders are missing. That is not the case on this system. If I look in All Users\Start Menu\Programs, both folders are present, and each folder has its full complement of shortcuts.

The issue is that they don't appear when the Start Menu is displayed. The folders are not hidden, and I haven't been able to identify a registry key that would prevent them displaying, so I am baffled.

Has anyone run across this issue? Have a solution?

Novell Client for Windows v.4.90

A year ago I installed Novell Client software to help run IPX network. All was fine until recently, when I created separate user accounts on my computer, for the first time. Novell disregarded all my new settings except for the one where I turned the original "owner" account into a limited account. Now, I can't log in as anything but a limited user, or a guest. This gives me very limited access to my system and, furthermore, I am totally prevented from changing back the settings from inside WinXP. Novell's software is also totally unco-operative, in my eyes, or, at least, extremely user un-friendly.

Has anyone had to deal with this before? How do you solve it? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

I am creating an image Win XP for HP laptop.
I have a image with IDE driver settings, it works fine and it did prompt for user to type a Computer Name and Administrator Password.
After that, I installed AHCI driver for that laptop to fully utilised the laptop disk resource.
Something very weird happened.
After I syspreped and reboot the laptop, the mini setup never prompt me to key in the Administrator Password.
I attempted a few more times but I still have the same negative result.
The AdminPassword= in the sysprep answer file, I tried to put a *, leave it blank, or totally omit it.
However, I still can get Administrator Password prompt, it ALWAYS bypass this step.

Can anyone advise me what happen?

I'm getting a Message when trying to install new programs
Trying msn Messenger 7.5 as example.
I'm in an account with administrator rights (this is indicated on the control panel / user accounts)

Message...
"You do not have the permissions required to install...."

I was getting a 1601 message - windows installer not available.
(I went into services and the "windows INstaller" was set to manual, I set it to automatic.)

Looking for directions.

I have two hard drives. a 60gig and a 250gig. The 60 was my boot drive, but now it fails to boot. I've changed my boot drive to the 250. I need to acess my old files on the desktop and in the my documents folder.

paths of action:

1. reinstalling windows on the 60gig drive. If I do this, will I lose the files under the old admin account?

2. using a data recovery program such as spinrite 6. I have a copy of spinrite 6. will it rescue my files from behind the password protection?

3. the windows recovery console. I haven't a clue how to use this, and the directions given on the microsoft site dont match up to what I'm seeing.

the worst part of this problem is that I have to it done by friday, because the HD will then be taking on a new role in my xbox. any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance, Pleb
