Sunbelt Kerio Fw Or Comodo Fw?

Q: Sunbelt Kerio Fw Or Comodo Fw?

I cannot believe the recent McAfee PFW 8.0 upgrade requires eight services and ten running files using approx 88MB memory per Task Manager! This is just unacceptable. I uninstalled all things McAfee but the FW ages ago and that is about to get the axe, too, I'm afraid. My subscription is not up until April but I am so disgusted I may just not wait til them to uninstall! Because I only want to select a FW with continued development (ruling out Sygate), I have narrowed the field to Sunbelt Kerio PFW and Comodo PFW, with a present leaning towards the SKPF. I have been readiing up on them for some time now on several forums & the latest releases of both appear to offer excellent protection & run pretty light on resources. They both appear to have a learning/basic mode with out-of-the-box ease of installation/setup. Comodo is currently free (but must register) and SBKF is currently $19.95/yr with a $10.00 renewal fee each year thereafter.Given what I have onboard realtime (see my signature), would users of these firewalls please offer their advice, suggestions, warnings as to how the two might perform (or conflict) on my system? Would you anticipate any problems/conflicts with what I have onboard?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Sunbelt Kerio Fw Or Comodo Fw?

I have a similar set up to you and I run Comodo. Your correct in that you have to register comodo but that is only foer the license key - I used a throw away gmail address for this.

System resoourse seem light and do not seem to be interupting day to day running.

Previously I was running Kerio but got fed up with the free version constantly reminding me to upgrade.

As I said Comodo does everything I want it to do and there is an official forum with custom rulesets.

Load it and give it a go.

Good Morning all,

I was using ZoneAlarm Pro which i found was good but wanted a change, so i downloaded Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall 4. It seems fine apart from when i open Azureus i get the "Outgoing Connection Alert (Internet)" Popup come up constantly - to the point where i was constantly clicking either "permit or Deny". I got so fed up i forced the program to close!

Is there anyway round this or should i bite the bullet and find another firewall/revert back to ZA pro?

I've been using Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall for a short while now and figured out most of it but am having troubles with it refusing to let Hotmail load. I have put Hotmail into the exceptions list and even put it in as *hotmail and hotmail* and done the same for the other pages that hotmail loads up for checking emails etc but nothing seems to work.

The weird thing is that any other page I have put into exceptions has worked fine.

Could someone please help out on this?

Earlier this evening when I was reading a topic on BC, my screen suddenly went black, and then I got this BSOD related to my firewall driver engine.

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Stop: 0x000000D1
(0xF99F4070, Ox00000002, 0x00000000, 0xEFEE7C5F)

fwdrv.sys - addressEFEE7C5F base at EFED30000
Date Stamp 4624d37a

I looked up the driver name, and it is the engine for the Sunbelt Personal Firewall. I've searched their site, but have seen no mention of their driver causing a BSOD.

I have the latest version, the driver is in the proper folder and there is only one copy. I have not seen any warning or error messages in event viewer connected with this issue or the time of the BSOD. Sunbelt firewall did not issue any warnings or alerts about a malfunction, and I see nothing pertinent in the logs.

The most recent changes to the computer have been uninstalling Firefox 1.? and installing Firefox 2.0.0.11. Reinstalling McAfee Site Advisor - latest version, flashblock, NoScript, Smiley Xtra, and installing colorful tabs. I have also installed Comodo BoClean 4.25. I have not had any issues with this firewall until now.

I have Windows XP Home OEM
Dell Dimension 2400

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Orange Blossom

Hi all, My firewall has alerted me to an unusual outgoing connection attempt with the following...

Microsoft file and printer sharing trying to make outgoing connection
with I.P. address 196.215.38.23 on port microsoft-ds [445]

This is unusual in that I never see any unexpected outgoing connection attempts. The firewall is set to alert me to and unknown incoming or outgoing connections.

I disabled file and printer sharing on my LAN but after rebooting the same connection attempt was made again so after denying permission for a second time I was interested to find out more.

I have googled the IP and found it is located somewhere near Johannesburg but I'm kind of stuck getting any further and not sure how I might find out more.

Really what I'm trying to find out is why my computer might be trying to connect to this address seemingly of its own accord and if this is something I need to be concerned about?

Can anyone help me shed some more light on this please?

I'm attempting to download an update for Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall (version 4.3.268) but it's taking a ridiculously long time. The rate it's going I should think it'll end up taking longer than three hours, which is a bit odd since to my knowledge it's not that enormous a program. Should it be taking this long or is something wrong? The status bar isn't advancing at all and I don't know if there's a better way to do it.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section. Assume it's a Kerio-specific problem because everything else on my broadband connection is fine. I'm running XP.

LOL...

I knew there was a VNC associated with GeekBuddy, so I never installed it.

Even with the fix - don't install GeekBuddy - nor Chromodo, Dragon or Ice Dragon; a user doesn't need any of them.

A lot of the controversy associated with the above due to dodgy practices.

Other than that, COMODO Internet Security is decent security soft using Proactive Security at default settings.

I have recently bought a new Acer Laptop, running on Win XP and Firefox 3.0 - everything fine! To start with I used the XP firewall, but then installed the latest version of Sunbelt (Kerio) Firewall. I chose Sunbelt instead of Comodo because I wanted an easier to use firewall for my laptop.

Everything OK except when accessing certain sites using my saved passwords, it takes much longer to log on to the site. Especially with my much-used iGoogle home page. With this Firefox eventually shows 'done' but nothing shows. I then exit Firefox and reopen Firefox and all the logged-on Google page is there. I have studied the Sunbelt manual and configuration dialogue windows but just cannot see what I can do. Is this fault because the Google analytical function is being blocked?

Any help please?

If this AMD is 64-bit architecture, Sunbelt firewall is not designed for 64-bit. They talk about a version in the future.

XP-SP2 is obsolete.
What version of NOD do you run. It is unlikely you need Webroot or S&D at the same time.

You should never disable your firewall unless absolutely necessary. I use Sunbelt and I've never had any problems installing software and have never needed to disable the firewall.

The only time you might have to disable it is when you're doing a major Windows update like XP SP3. When you do it's a good idea to disconnect from the internet.

The anti-virus bloatware problem is getting worse despite what some vendors may claim, according to figures from Sunbelt Software.
The Florida based vendor's marketing claims tap into a deep well of discontent about anti-virus products but are not supported by the latest results from independent testing labs, such as AV-Test.org, and therefore ought to be treated with caution.
What's not in dispute is that slow, bloated anti-virus engines chew up system resources. The problem has been a continual source of frustration for Windows users for years, and something their Mac and Linux-using peers always cite in operating system arguments.

Worse yet, each new version of the leading Windows anti-virus products from Symantec, Trend and McAfee et al can increases the demand on CPU and memory by a significant factor, Sunbelt claims. This can effectively reduce the useful life of existing machines which, according to Sunbelt, need 20 per cent more grunt (extra CPU power and RAM) for each update./QUOTE]

I had a Malware infection a month or so ago. Farbar helped me clean it out. As part of the clean-up process I installed Sunbelt Personal Firewall 4. At the time I had a home network with 3 computers on it, all with Windows XP. The one with the Malware infection is wired (we'll call it WIRED) and the other two were wireless.

We got a new computer for Christmas (we'll call it NEW), also with Windows XP. I tried to set it up as wireless with all the protection that I had on WIRED, including Sunbelt Personal Firewall. My intent is to move one of the users (including Documents, Pictures, Music, etc) from WIRED to NEW. NEW was able to see the internet and one of my other wireless computers, but was not able to see WIRED. I tried to ping WIRED from NEW and NEW from WIRED but everything timed out.

I looked around the Sunbelt settings and found Trusted area under Network Security.
I added Home network with an IP range to include all of my PCs (and my router) on both WIRED and NEW. I left the Adapter at "any" (I figured once I got what I needed working, I could come back and see if I could tighten the security a little more). At that point ping started to work, so I hoped I was in business.

I tried to enter WIRED's IP address in Windows Explorer from NEW to see WIRED's shared directories. It failed (I believe the message was "Windows cannot find '<IP address>'. I also tried to create a Network Place, but it didn't recognize WIRED by name, or by IP ad... Read more

A:Sunbelt Firewall - How share directories on network

Are the wireless connections encrypted?

For some reason Sunbelt Firewall cannot protect an encrypted connection. Instead of protecting it, Sunbelt blocks it. This tactic is known as Added encryption. Most likely, if you do not have a strong router or if your router is a bit older, then you should lower the protection level on the router.

It's more likely that the two programs don't play well together. Do you have other spyware programs and do any of them conflict with Sunbelt? It's possible that Sunbelt has an issue with this program that needs to be addressed by them. So you might want to tell them about it or check their forum because you won't be the only one with this problem.

Im just wondering if an antivirus is actually needed with comodo firewall.
As i understand it comodo firewall checks files as they are downloaded etc and im assuming it would pick up malware on its own therefore maybe i would not need to run the comodo av or any other av at all.

Any thoughts on this please.?

Thanks.

I've been having BSODs, and recently found out that AdAware leaves behind Sunbelt drivers when uninstalled - and I've come to realize they're probably the cause. I've tried deleting them, but my internet connection doesn't work without them, so I've restored them. I hope this is the right place to post.

A:Solved: Removing Adaware/Sunbelt drivers left behind after uninstalling

You can try using a program called revo uninstaller. Most people on here use microsoft security essentials instead of adaware or avg. Its very user friendly and its free.

A:Kerio Help

Hi Folks...One of the many friends whom I help keep their systems going is running Win 98. the latest release of Zone Alarm is not compatible. I also have an old Dell desktop running Win98SE. I don't use it much any more, but I like to keep it current.

The only alternate (free) firewall I've been able to find is Kerio. I have zero experience with Kerio and would like to hear some opinions about it. Any and all thoughts greatly appreciated. Also any other alternative firewall suggestions would be helpful.

I just installed Kerio Personal Firewall free edition... when the install was complete it told me to restart to complete the installation, and I did. when the computer restarted, at the Windows 98 startup screen, the computer again restarted. it then went into safe mode fine. I tried to startup again in normal... it restarted like before. From there, I uninstalled Kerio in safe mode... what happened?

This morning I started gettting a bunch of Kerio popup warnings which I do when the DNS numbers change. I changed them in my rule set and I still keep getting the one below. What does it mean?

A:Kerio Alert

I am always mystified by the warning pop-ups that Kerio (and presumably ANY firewall) shows from time to time. Usually if I don't understand them I tick the 'Create appropriate....' and click Deny. No problems so far.
