I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Code:
System restore failed due to an unspecified error. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. (0x80070570)
ok i know it has something to do with drivers not loading and im 100% sure it must be the driver for my cannon mp160 printer as the problem occurred immediately after installing the driver i used was Canon PIXMA MP160 Easy-PhotoPrint v.3.61 driver from http://driverscollection.com/?H=PIXMA%20MP160&By=Canon
i am using vista home premium i have a hp pavillion dv6000 laptop

i also have the ultimate boot disk so i can access the files on my c drive is there a way to find and remove this driver from outside vista ex. remove some file or edit the registry.

I have a Dell Inspiron Desktop about 6 months old.  Today I was using MS Edge and it started crashing.  I closed down my other programs and did a reboot and after the initial Dell logo and circling dots it just stays black.  I can see my mouse curser and that is it.  I have been trying to go into safe mode but no luck.  Other than that the PC appears to be running normally by the sound and power light. I turned the unit off 3 times in a row thinking the settings screen will appear but it never did.
Please help.

Hello again
I have a Gateway FX6710 running Win 7. today I updated my Kodak AIO ESP9 printer. Shortly afterward on a restart I found that Outllook 2007 would not startup, an error message popped up stating it was unable to access it in so many words. I went and did a sys restore to yesterdays date. It went through the process of restoring and then shutdown. On the restart it went to the initial startup and stopped just short of my welcome page. All it showed was a black screen with the curser which was movable. I tried safe mode but did the same thing. I read something about tapping the shift key 5 times to bring up a Sticky Notes box asking if I wanted it to startup. That did bring up the Sticky Notes box.
. No matter if I selected yes or no for Sticky Notes to start I still can't get past the black screen.

Any ideas??
The computer came with Vista but shortly afterward did clean install of windows 7 64 bit

Thanks

Hello and thanks in advance for your assistance.I have a DELL XPS 400 Desktop. Currently at start up, the computer shows the DELL page with the option to choose F2 or F12. Then it goes to a black screen with a blinking curser found on the top left corner. One day before the issue happened:1. Installed a new Dell printer software 2. McAfee installed updates (regular updates)Two days before issue:1. Installed updates and ran Malwarebytes (no issues found)Since the issue I?ve:1. Removed RAM and reinstalled (When removed and rebooted the computer acknowledged the change in RAM)2. Removed battery inside computer3. Unplugged computer from power strip and plugged into wall outlet4. Checked monitor lights ? all goodThe computer will not allow the F8 option and I've heard no beeps when the computer is rebooted. The only beeps I hear are when I press down the F8 too often.DELL did not send the XP boot CD?s at purchase so I do not have a backup CD. However, my father has the same system. Would I be able to create a XP Boot CD using his XPS 400 computer so I can try to get into the F8 option?Any additional ideas on how to fix this issue would be great. Thanks!

A:Black Screen at Startup (with curser)

I've heard no beeps when the computer is rebooted.Hi -Never a good sign - Turn the unit OFF for 5 mins - Restart , Listen to the tower carefully and there should be one beep as the system is starting -The internal speaker should make just one beep as it is started - Failure to do this can be anything from Hard drive failure to just the speaker gone - But as you hear beeps with F8 the speaker sounds OK -Just try one more time and listen carefully - Then post back -Thank You -EDIT - If you have a printer connected , please remove/unplug it first -

Hi all.

I have got myself into a real stress with this Dell inspiron 1545.

I will start from the begining

My GF stood on her laptop and broke the screen, No problems easy to replace done that.

After replacment of the screen booted up first time no problems.

Gave it back to the GF who booted it up went and made some tea and came back to find a black screen with just a cursor.

Tired to boot into all safe modes same problem! I guessed video driver?

I have tried to use system restore, comes up with "the instruction at 0x743d29e7 referenced memory at 0x0058d1f5. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate the progame" So im guessing the HDD is corrupt?

I have tried using start up repair but it could not detect a problem.

I have no idea what to do now she doesnt have a recovry disk (quite sure I put windows 7 on but not 100% sure)

any ideas would be much appresiated

Thanks

Uninstalled the graphics drivers in device manager in safe mode and rebooted No change. Tried another graphics card with the same results. Did a system restore to yesterday (only option) but didn't help. I'm at the end of my ideas. Any you might have? Would be much appreciated!

I was originally getting the black screen with curser and was trying fixes I found on the web. Now I get a blue screen telling me it can't find my hard drive. I booted from an ubantu cd and it sees my hard drive. How do I get my hard drive to show up in windows. I looked at the bios and didn't see them there either. I had Vista preinstalled when I bought my HP and it came with NO disks. Don't even have the drivers cd.

A while ago my computer was acting weird. It would not let me go into this folder in the appdata thingy. So, I decided to restart. It took for ever to shut down, and booted back up and was working fine. That night, I went to turn off my computer but it was on the shutting down screen for about 2 hours, and sese its in my room, I could not sleep without it. So, it being 1 in the morning and me really wanting to go to bed I turned off the power strip.

Today, I went to turn it on, and it went to the login screen. I logged on, and it went to a black screen with the curser. I waited there for a little bit but it still wouldn't work. The weird thing is that the screen saver came up. I have tried safe mode, and everything. Any help?

Hello all. I am working with a family members laptop. The initial problem was when she started up and logged into windows 7 home premium after it displayed her desktop she could not launch any programs. Trying to launch any program got the "hour glass" then nothing.

I have the laptop with me now and after several anti virus, malwaye bytes, removing suspect programs I alternate between the original problem and getting the black screen with curser after logging into windows. Here is what all I did.

1 - remove some programs. Various toolbars, yontoo a couple other things I do not remember. After doing this I got the first instance of black screen with curser

2 - Booted to safe mode again with networking. Updated malwarebytes definitions and ran complete scan. Found dozens of issues, remved all issues. After doing this I got the desktop back but again could not launch any programs

3 - Ran both AVG USB boot and Kaspersky rescue 10 from USB boot. Neither found anything but some cookies. Removed instances of kookies with AVG. Booted up still could not launch any programs.

4 - windows safe mode networking again. Add remove programs, turn windows features on or off, unchecked IE 10. Rechecked IE 10. Rebooted same problem could not launch anything after booting normally

5 - Safe mode networking again. Downloaded ccleaner. screwed that one up and it installed the addon crap. Removed those. Run malwarebytes again. Deleted ever... Read more

Hi, and welcome to TSF.

Yontoo, as you can see here SystemLookup - Global Search is not good to have on your machine whichever version you had.

I should think you're probably infected and if registry cleaners have been used on the machine in the past, I think it very likely that which has caused the issues you're having now.

You should follow the instructions here > NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help - Tech Support Forum

Try to follow all of the steps. If there is one you can't follow, skip to the next and let the analyst know in your thread.

Post your logs as per the instructions........not here.

Windows XP HE, on a Dell Dimension. While surfing the web last night, my son's computer had a "window pop up" that said something about an illegal action, with part of his name in it? He said he thought it must be a virus so he turned off the machine right away, and now it is a black screen with a blinking curser in it. I have the disks that came with the machine, but I cannot get to any screen that works. The CD Rom door opens, but only makes a whirling sound, nothing, nodda. Fans come on, etc.

Hello,
I need help as I believe that I have a virus. I lent my computer to the IT guy at work for 20 minutes so that he could install a work program onto it for me, but I suspect that something else was installed as well.
Upon receiving my computer back, there was a black screen and curser, and I couldn't get out of it. So I turned off my laptop by holding down the power button. Then I restarted the laptop. I experienced the black screen with cursor again, but it went away after a couple minutes and I was able to log in. I never experienced this problem before allowing someone to use my computer. Does this mean the IT guy is trying to spy on me with a another program or virus? How do I get rid of it? I have Windows 10.

Hello,   I am somewhat ignorant when it comes to anything beyond computer basics.

I have a Lenovo H420 Desktop, with Windows 7 home version - 64 bit, 1 Tb HD, 8 GB Ram.

Last week I found out from my ISP that my e-mail account had been hacked and was being used to send out spam e-mails.  I ran my AVG security program and it found nothing.  I restarted my computer and now all I get is a blank black screen with an active curser.  The numlock and caplock keys still work, I have left the computer on overnight in case it was a slow start up but that did nothing.

I have tried using my recover disks that came with my computer ...they run through the recovery but it changes nothing.  I tried running malwarebytes from the dvd drive...it found nothing.

I have all my important data backed up to an external storage drive so at this point I think I want to re-format the HD and reinstall Windows 7.

I have no idea how to do that.  Windows 7 came installed on my computer and I cannot find a product key anywhere on the tower or with the paperwork that came with the computer.

What would be my best avenue to format and re-install windows under these circumstances?   Or is there a chance that I could fix the problem with out formatting?

I am able to bring up the command prompt in safe mode.

Thank you very much to anyone who has the time and expertise to help...it would be greatly appreciated... Read more

Hi! After the 5/13/15 windows update I'm stuck with a black screen and no way to follow instructions for downloads, repairs etc. on my Toshiba Satellite L675 with Windows 7. I've tried new power adapters, resetting with the battery removed, another monitor via VGA (didn't work) and the laptop didn't come with a Windows 7 disc. Randomly the laptop screen came up twice briefly; although the system was running very slow and Chrome and Firefox were hanging up, I ran a malware scan, the automated update troubleshooter, uninstalled KB3022345, restored to a previous point, backed up files to an external hard drive via Control Panel Backup (which now shows as 0 bytes) and updated several drivers. On the AMD driver, I received an error message so I downloaded and installed it from their website. After that it's stayed black; it boots but nothing's on the screen and F8 doesn't work. When the screen's black the amber indicator light I always see on the front of the laptop is not on; it may be the WiFi indicator but I'm not sure since there are two other options not lit. So I built a new PC a couple of days ago, and everything has been running fine until recently. It started with my PC hanging on a blackscreen upon booting up. I believe it had something to do with a registry clean that I performed with CCleaner early.. After restoring my registry from a backup, I am now able to boot into Normal Mode again, but I am still unsure of what the cause was exactly. Also, is it recommended to run registry cleaning scans or should I just leave the registry alone?

Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons

Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Registry , “the Windows registry stores all application settings in one logical repository (but a number of discrete files) and in a standardized form.  The registry contains important configuration information for the operating system, for installed applications as well as individual settings for each user and application. A careless change to the operating system configuration in the registry could cause irreversible damage, so it is usually only installer programs which perform changes to the registry database during installation/configuration and removal.  If a user wants to edit the registry manually, Microsoft recommends that a backup of the registry is performed before the change.  Editing the registry is sometimes necessary when working around Windows-specific issues e.g. problems when logging onto a domain can be resolved by editing the registry.  The Windows registry can be edited manually using programs such as regedit.exe, although these tools do not expose some of registry's metadata such as the last modified date.”

A:Vista Ultimate service pack 2 won't start any programs, now boots to black screen with curser

Have you tried running the file association fixes for vista? While it may be needed to check if you have no other issues regarding the blackscreen with cursor(hard drive problem) or any infections, I would try that one first.

I have Windows XP SP2, with Firefox as my default browser. When I attempt to enter an enquiry through Google The curser will sometimes move from left to right, thus deleting the entry. Additionally, if I am successful in reaching a web site, the curser will randomly start clearing print line by line.

If that wasn't bad enough the web page can suddenly go to the bottom of the article and I cannot get it to return to the top.

I thought that it might be a virus but AVG Pro say that my system is not infected. Please help.

Hello, I had a very odd incident with my computer.

Specs:
FX-6300
ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
Ripjaws Gskill 2x4GB
Rosewill Green Series 630W
Also have a Cooler Master 212 EVO for the CPU
R9 270x Gigabyte OC Edition

So I was playing a game called Gnomoria, which to my knowledge shouldn't be very taxing on a computer... When suddenly my screen went brown with vertical lines! I could still hear the music playing but it seemed my PC was frozen. I decided to then restart the computer. As windows booted up, I got the chime that signals you were moments away from logging only to get a screen that is black. I can move the cursor but thats its... nothing else works. I then restarted my computer again with the same problem. Finally, I restarted the computer again but in safe mode with networking and I got that to work. Beyond this point I am not very experienced when it comes to computers, though I did build this rig myself. I'm just wondering what went wrong, and how can I start to fix this problem. I was not overclocking at all, at temps right before the Brown Screen looked cool with the CPU at 40C and the GPU around 35-40C. I also posted this under graphics problems mostly because this issue probably is GPU related. I'm running on 3.12, or 3.9 drivers. Im not sure which one but I am running on older ones mainly because I was having Blue Screen issues about 2 months ago which was fixed thanks to this forum. I'm just not sure where to go from here, any help would be appreciated.

A:Brown Screen and Vertical Lines - Black Screen on Boot

I forgot to mention that I did a system restore which brought it back 10 days earlier in which a version of direct X was installed. The system restore didn't work though and i was still welcomed with the black screen and only a mouse cursor. I have not changed any settings though recently.

I've had my 4870 Dark Knight 1gig Video card for roughly 8 -9 months now. Been working flawlessly, running everything at highest settings.

However, my computer is crashing and displaying a black screen with either, red, green or white lines across the screen. Also the D601 LED on the Video card is now on.

D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault

This error can occur randomly. Every 5 minutes or even once a week. Also a reformat does not help.

I've run multiple stress tests on the card and it never errors out. Also i've swapped every other part in my computer with spare parts. (CPU, RAM, Monitor) I'm at an crossroad here. Is my video card dying/faulty. Or is the power supply dying?

Power Supply --- Antec 550 Watt

Operating System --- Windows 7 64bit

Video Card --- Radeon 4870 Dark Knight
Any thought/comments are greatly appreciated!

I purchased my Aspire E 15 in December 2015.  It has been in the shop once already (Best Buy) who were unable to diagnose the problem, and I've been unable to use it since April due to the screen being mostly black with gray or blue lines.  Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?  Or does it need to be sent back to manufacturer?

I have a laptop with a touchscreen and almost a year after buying it I would get black places with vertical white stripes on the screen. Sometimes they took up the whole screen, sometimes they were only an inch thick. They always seemed to be changing in size quickly and were always the full length of the screen. A computer mechanic said it was a short in the screen. It happened especially when I tilted the screen.

I sent it in under warranty and they replaced the LCD and updated the BIOS. Less than a week later it is starting to do it again just a little but it seems like it will get worse.

I do a lot of MS office for school and my sister plays the Sims 3 and free tv sites (but she doesn't download anything).

Please let me know if you need anymore information and provide specific steps on how to get it because I haven't gotten this lingo down, yet! Thanks!

Send it in again; clearly they did not fix the problem if it is starting to occur again.

So recently my computer has been experiencing some issues. Black horizontal lines have been showing up all over the screen. At first they were intermittent but now they seems to be happening more often and it's getting worse. Could this be an issue with the graphics card or the graphics driver? The lines do not show up in a screenshot if that says anything. I have a Lenovo yoga 11s with windows 10 and have only had it for 2 years. I would really like not to have to replace my computer because of this.

Hi I bought my Lenovo Yoga 730-13 from Best Buy in May and the last 2-3 weeks black lines have been appearing across my screen and getting progressively worse. For the first time yesterday my screen was locked in certain areas and would fade to a black before jumping back to normal. I went into Lenovo Vantage and updated the system as suggested and ran a hardware scan which came back as normal. This doesn't happen in BIOS mode and even happened again today! I'm currently in a very aggressive graduate school program and use my laptop for research as well, please help!!!! https://kaltura.uwec.edu/media/t/1_k7wwk7l2

OK so I got home one night and turned on my monitor and I had the blue screen of death. I shut down my PC and tried again the next day. When I started it back up I was getting the 3 beeps so I removed my ram and cleaned them and fixed that problem. Now when I start up my PC the resolution is all messed up, and there are these green lines running across the background. Also I notice a orange light on my mother board that I am not sure has always been there. I have pictures I will attach. If anybody has any ideas please let me know, I've read that this could have been something tied in with nvidia geforce installing a new driver. If not I'm pretty sure my video card is dying

ok almost 2 months ago my computer blinked came back on and said a display driver had crashed ans was succsesfully recovered, well from then on out my screen was weird looking with lines ,text would dissapear ,and it was like this for a long time,so the other day my screen blinked and when it came back on my whole screen was multi colored and i could not see my desktop at all, now i read that it was probably just my video card going out so i uninstalled it thinking that ,would fix the problem...and it did,,,,for about 10 minutes and it did it again...so i have no clue whats going on, but i know i dont want to hear windows registery error cause i have alot on my comp that i would have to have saved and i shiver at the thought of the price of that...i mean i cannot see anything at all just alot of colors in small thin lines,.this is a home built comp, but it was made by someone who has been makeing comps for years so he knows what he is doing.....but hes way to busy for me to just call up, so any help would be amazing
if this is in the wrong section, sorry this is my 1st post

A:black screen followed by multi color lines

Boot in safe mode and see if the issue persists. If it does in safe mode, then it's most likely a hardware issue.
