I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been running ATI All-In-Wonder 9000 Pro for about 2 months with no problems, but I recently installed a Santa Cruz sound card, and various ATI functions have stopped working acoustically. First, the packaged ATI File Player (for avi, dvx, mpeg) outputs video but no audio. And the TV-In-Demand function (records TV-out to the harddrive) also lacks sound play. But the regular TV viewer and the DVD Player play sound just fine, and playing the sound works when playing the same avi, mpg, files on WinDVD some of the time. Can anyone help? I'm not a real tech expert, so any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried re-installing your Catalyst drivers and software to see if they can pick up your new sound card? Is the old sound card out of Device Manager? Sounds like some type of conflict.

When I play MIDI files, there's no sound. There's no error message or anything. In control panel, under Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio, Default MIDI Playback is blank. When I select "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" and click apply/ok, it turns back to blank when I open Sounds and Audio Devices again.

I can play MIDI files in quicktime, but only if I select "Quicktime Music Synthesizer" as the Default Music Synthesizer. If I select "General MIDI", there's no sound again when I play it.

Try getting and installing the latest drivers for your audio device.

Yesterday I needed a tool for conversion of MOV files to WMV files and I found this program:

Free Convert MOV AVI to FLV Flash WMV Converter - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

During the install, it said that some of my media drivers were "obsolete" or something like that and offered to delete them from the registry. The dialog box said "Yes - recommended". I clicked "Yes" to all prompts - there were at least 15-20 of them. Then the program installer installed some codec packs. I am pretty sure that ffdshow and K-Lite were installed although I don't know which version. I think there was also some 3rd type of codec pack but I can't remember the name. It also installed some strange version of media player classic (1.3.1976.0).

Anyway, the program didn't actually work after installation, it was shareware and asked me for money to convert entire files. So I uninstalled it from the Control Panel/Programs.

Unfortunately, now I have a problem when playing ALL media files. It manifests as a strange intermittent buzzing sound during music playback (in Winamp, Windows media player and Foobar - they all have this problem). Also, the buzzing sound appears during playback of video files in KMPlayer or Windows Media Player (it seems that in WMP the problem is more pronounced).

The buzzing sound occurs unpredictably. There is no specific rule to when it will occur. So if I play a sound file 5 times, it will be heard at diffe... Read more

I believe I've got some Trojan. Some searches in both Internet Explorer and Firefox get redirected, however not all searches. Sound advertising files play randomly and I always get multiple iexplore.exe application errors pop up reference to a memory location "at 0x7laba... could not be written OK to terminate". Malwarebytes does not find anything, and Symantec will come up with some files having been quarantined, never the same files, ad.xztuy for example. Any help would be appreciated thanks. Marcus

Hello there!

My problem sounds very much the same as the one I discovered here on the forum (solved):

Clicking links in Google on any web browser I try will sometimes redirrect to something random.

I also experience random sound files playing (rare occurance I think it's linked with web browsing), these will stack up layer upon layer and it's just weird and annoying. When I click on the sound mixer I see TCP/IP Ping is producing the sound and by killing PING.EXE with Process Hacker 2 I stop it but that's not fixing the overall problem.

The problem: The sound files playing seem to be a mix of commercials and television like programs.  It registers in my audio mixer as "Name Not Available" though after I ran HijackThis, the name converted to something like "Host Services" (can't remember exactly as I'm very tired and frustrated).  Once this thing kicks in, the resource usage starts going steadily up.  Over time (anywhere between fifteen minutes to an hour), I get a message that either DCOM or Plug and Play has unexpectedly terminated and the computer needs to restart.
I have run AVG, Malwarebytes, HijackThis, rkill and ComboFix (I did not see the warnings when I downloaded it and for that I apologize) plus several others.
NOTE: I have noticed that a new message has cropped up as my computer starts.  It flashes by too quickly for me to catch it, but it shows up between the Gateway logo and the Starting Windows message.

Hello, Spell_Blade.
My name is etavares and I will be helping you with this log.
Here are some guidelines to ensure we are able to get your machine back under your control.
Please do not run any unsupervised scans, fixes, etc.  We can work against each other and end up in a worse place.
Please subscribe to this topic if you have not already done so.  Please check back just in case, as the email system can fail at times.
Just because your machine is running better does not mean it is completely cleaned.  Please wait for the 'all clear' from me to say when we are done.
Please reply within 3 days to be fair to other people asking for help.
When in doubt, please stop and ask first.  There's no harm in asking questions!

Step 1
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.
If you are using Windows 8 consult How to use the Windows 8 System Recovery Environment Command Prompt to enter System Recovery Command prompt.
If you are using Vista or Windows 7 enter System Recovery Options.
To enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:

Restart the computer.

So I recently opened my CPU because it was lagging and I thought maybe a little clean up might do the trick. So I softly brushed the drivers inside the CPU to get some dust off. However, when I turned on my PC, it seems that whenever I watch videos or play games, a loud crackling sound comes out from my speakers. I don't know what is causing this.

I have tried disabling my drivers (sound and display) but to no avail. However, if I mute the volume on my sound driver, the sound disappears. Which lead me to the conclusion that it might be a conflict of sound and display.

Since the problem only occured when I opened my CPU and cleaned it, it might also be a wiring problem or something.

Can someone help me on this?

Started today when I opened Pro Tools. There was audio playing that sounded like a radio station. Sometimes two tracks would be played over one another and other times there would be adverts. The audio cuts out every now and then and then starts playing a few seconds or so later. In the volume mixer it is under "Name Not Available". That's all I can think of that might help sorry :/

I've been stuggling with this for a few hours now and am at the end of my wits..

I've got two audio devices that I would like to link to my PC at once.
I've got one plug connected to the back panel, and one to the front. But one always cuts off the other. In my sound devices, the system registers them both as: "speakers, VIA High Definition Audio, Standard device"

Is there any way that I can connect them both at once, and still have both of them outputting audio?

I hope the internet will save the day!

Many thanks in advance!

If you use realtek,

Otherwise You're pretty much screwed, only other way is to use Virtual audio cable, but you'd have to set it up every time you booted (and it costs 20$)

I've posted this issue before on numerous support fourms, and none of them or I could figure out this issue. It's been driving me nuts.

A couple months ago I cleaned my computer (plugged everything out, cleaned the area/computer, etc.) when I put everything back together and booted up, I had no sound, but the tray icon indicated sound was indeed going through. As far as I knew nothing had been changed. I made sure everything was plugged in correctly, reinstalled the drivers, made sure I didn't click something off I shouldn't have, but still nothing. But then I plugged in headphones into the tower headphone jack, and boom I had sound. I was as surprised as everyone else. Someone suggested then, to rule out a hardware issue, that I download Ubuntu and see if the sound problem occurs there. It didn't, I had sound coming out of my speakers.

I would hate to re-install Win, as I've gone without doing so for five years. But if it came down to it, it's whatever.

I use the on-board sound from my MB, as I've learned over the years sound cards are a thing of the past. But perhaps I could reattach the old one I have? It's sadly over 10 years old however, I don't know if it would be worth trying. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Major cudos if we're able to figure this out once and for all. Good luck

My system:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit
AMD Phenom II X4 965
Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3 (on-board sound)
Ripjaws 8 GB
Nvida Geforce GTX 780

Been having major issues playing GTA IV.

First, the sound kept getting cut during gaming. When I exited the game, there was no sound in Windows either. I had to reboot to get sound but after a couple of minutes, the sound cut off again and I wasn't even gaming then. Video playback became really laggy (YouTube played videos as if in slow motion) and there was no sound.

I had to reboot the PC several times. Unisntalled sound card (through Device Manager) and then reinstalled it as well as the latest drivers. Still had same issue when I tried playing GTA IV.

Today, I got consecutive BSODs while playing GTA IV. I've had several issues with GTA IV like missing textures, no sound, freezing (at loading screens), CTD (crash to desktop) etc. Tried reinstalling the game several times from scratch and even tried different hard drive but none of them work(ed).

I'm playing GTA IV heavily modded (Gionight ENB mod with several custom cars/weapons etc.) but my computer is a beast and it should be able to handle it easily.

My specs:

CPU: i7 990X
Mainboard: Asus P6T7 WS Supercomputer
Memory: 12GB Corsair Domintar 1600MHz
Hard Drive: 32GB SLC SSD x2 (RAID-0)
Video: EVGA GTX-580 3GB Tri-SLI
Sound: Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium HD
Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling 1200W
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

The first BSOD was STOP code 0x124 and that was with stock clocks for the GPU. The second BSOD was STOP code 0x1000007e and that was with GPUs OC'd to 850MHz.

if yes, most likely you will need to enable the 'upmix' feature of VIA. I'm not sure what is it called, but in Realtek it is called Realtek Speaker Fill or Dolby ProLogic IIx. If there isn't any, you may want to try Channel Mixer for foobar2000.

Hello! I have a small issue. Basically, I have a Compaq desktop for about five years now. I've never had a problem with my computer before until my speakers stopped working. My computer has been soundless for two months until today when i finally purchased some speakers. I followed the instructions on how to set it up to a tee. I turned on the subwoofer and find that I still cannot hear anything. I restarted and turn off my computer twice and reconnect the sound system twice and still no sound. I Ran The Test On My Coaxial Out From The Computer Where It Says "test 5.1 Sound" And When I Do That My Reciever Says "dobly Digital" Like Its Supposed To....but Not When I Play Ac3 Movies...

A:I Try Playing Movies with AC3 sound But I Dont Get Ac3 Sound

Can you set your media player to output to SP/DIIF? It could also be that the video your playing doesn't have the 5.1 sound files included.

It was working and then I hit something in the realtek HD audio manager by accident and it stopped working, I can't figure out how to fix it.

A:Can't hear sound through headphones, but it says sound is playing?

Not knowing what you did, all we can do is guess and try to help you.

Not sure if System Restore (back to an available restore date that is before whatever you did) will help or not, but one option to try.

Uninstalling/reinstalling the RealTek will probably do it. Actually just installing the latest RealTek will first uninstall the existing, have you restart the PC (Important step do not bypass this) and then will do a new install.

Download the latest High Defintion Codec from RealTek. Realtek

Try a different program.

Are you converting from CD, or a wave file on the hard drive?

I have 300 mp3 files on my computer. Total size of the directory is 6 Gig worth of mp3's. Currently I have to drag and drop the mp3 files over to Windows Media Player to get the mp3's to play. I want to copy or burn half of the mp3's to a dvd. I want the dvd to start playing or at least to bring up some kind of menu when the dvd is inserted into a player. How do I burn the mp3 files to a dvd so the mp3 files will start playing from a dvd automatically?

A:How Can I Copy MP3 Files To A DVD So The Files Starting Playing Automatically

What kind of MP3 takes up 20Mb?
An MP3 DVD should Auto Play without any additional steps-check your auto play options. (Play using WMP).
Is this folder monitored by WMP? There should be no reason to drag an drop.

The speakers that I'm using is the "High Definition Audio Device". And I have enhanced the "Loudness equaliser" but it's still the same. Thanking you in advance Reena

Hello people.
I have problem with the fonts. Unfortunatelly I don't know what brought the problem so what informations would help you to understand it. I'll give some, but I don't know if they are involved or not.
I clean installed W7 x64 prem. before some months. Not any codecs. Now I cannot play mp4 with any media player eg.vlc, real or Windows player.
After the clean installation(W7), I transported all my data from an external drive back. The most .txt files became "Chinese (I mean not readable). I tried to convert them to unicode with not succes. I must tell you that I know nothing about Ansi unicode utf-8 ...so everything I was doing was by blind-luck...
Last days I was trying to download .srt subtitles for some movies. It happened the same story..."Chiness"...Can anyone help me or give me a direction about what I have to do? , where is the problem for the mp4? (normaly I think W.m.player is able to play).
Also if is possible to read (convert), the files that are already destroed.
Thanks a lot.

A:Problem playing mp4 files and to transport txt and srt files

Most things .srt will not work unless ANSI. Try SPlayer Portable. It automatically downloads the .srt file if it can find it.

It sounds like your problems stem from Unicode. Are you using an English Language version of Windows?

edit: the other possibility is that the .srt is non standard and specifies a particular font. If it's not on your system that could be why you're seeing "chinese" characters.

If it's a standard .srt it should only have
timing line
dialog text (the subtitle)
then a blank line
then the number for the next sub and so on.

Any other stuff with curly braces or backslashes with numbers is ad hoc. You need the player that supports the particular hack.

For some time now, the sound on my computer hasn't been working at all. Additionally, whenever sound tries to play, it makes the program it's trying to play in lag significantly; using YouTube, for example, makes the video only display one frame at a time, skipping significantly, and any game without sound you can completely disable is more-or-less unplayable.

Does this fall in line with any problems anyone is familiar with, and if so, how can I solve it? Thanks.

Never watched dvd's on the comp before, so I don't know my a$$ from my elbow on these matters.

Thanks in advance!

Hi all

i'm having problems with my new webbook. the sound is working in general, wma files play and I can hear sound when streaming etc but when I try and play a dvd I get no sound. i thought it was the external dvd player so I reinstalled the driver with the windows 7 driver, installed the latest driver for the DVD software for Win 7 no luck, then someone suggested DivX so I installed that still no luck. on the DivX website it suggests that you install this software to see if you have the correct codec, did that and it says i have the correct codec installed to play the specific file, (see here DivX Support)
so while looking here i read about issues with realtek drivers so I installed the latest driver for win 7 I thinkn its R2.37 and still no luck.

Is there some setting in the Sound Manager that i need to adjust.

any healp at all is appreciated as I cant take much more of this thing!!

Hi JPF, Welcome to SF,

You can try something that might work

Go To Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Right click on Speakers > Properties > Advanced > Uncheck : "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device".

You could download and install VLC Media Player try to play in that one

Hope that helps

The member fixed up the theme problem for me and advised me to download a new verion of Media Player which I did.

I have tried the DVD's on Real Player too and they still have no sound. I have sound for all other programs

I've tried downloading WMP DVD codecs and it doesn't help. I can play CDs and other downloaded media just fine in WMP, so my sound card is perfect. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? My computer isn't playing sound properly, though according to dxdiag, there isn't a problem. Additionally, whenever the computer tries to play a sound, the program playing the sound lags significantly; ex. when trying to play a video on YouTube, the video shows a frame, then skips a couple of seconds, shows a frame, etc.

Does this fit with any apparent problems? If so, how do I fix it?

A:XP Pro with no sound while playing DVD'S!!!

Sounds like you need a sound card driver, or maybe a codec have you ever tried out K-lite Codec pack? What type of motherboard are you using, and what type of sound card, 2 things I think you would need to know, if its dell, type in your computer model in google then type drivers. You should be able to find the graphics and audio drivers there. Unless you don?t have your cord plugged in correctly to your sound card directly to the monitor.

1. Make sure your cord is plugged in correctly.
2. Make sure all your drivers are up-to date.
3. Try the K-Lite Codec Pack.

So someone just fixed my computer and when I hooked it back up the sound didn't work, it wasn't saying there was a sound device or anything. Then something popped up about windows media manager or something and all of a sudden the red X went away and it said there was a device (I still didn't hear anything though) and then I restarted to install updates and now its back to the red X with no sound device. I waited 5 months to get it back and I would really like it if someone could help me. This is what dxdiag said before when it listed sound:

Hello. I have a strange problem. I have a Logitech G430 Gaming headset. I hate having to plug the pink and green 3.6mm plugs into the USB adapter because it reduces the sound quality. If I plug both of them into the corresponding jacks on the front of my PC, I can get studio quality sound that sounds amazing. But there's one problem, any sounds that programs and windows emit, goes through my mic quite clearly. People on Skype have confirmed this for me. I checked to make sure that my Stereo Mix was not enabled and it wasn't. Even when I am in the sound options for windows, if I emit a sound, for example, I click change the sound level and it makes that "ping" noise, the bar for my mic rises as if it was getting input. It cant be that the volume of my headset is so loud that sound is bleeding into my mic because its too clear on the other end and this problem only happens when my headset is plugged into the 3.5mm jacks. Another reason I really want to use the jacks is so I dont have to use Logitech's stupid gaming software.

Any help or ideas that could lead to me solving this annoying problem would be appreciated.

Thank you.
