How to view firewall traffic in latest version of Comodo firewall?

Q: How to view firewall traffic in latest version of Comodo firewall?

I recently downloaded the latest version of Comodo firewall. I found out that the whole interface has been changed.

Now I'm unable to find the option to show all connections going on at the current movement. Has the option been removed? Or is it some where else?
Thanks!

Preferred Solution: How to view firewall traffic in latest version of Comodo firewall?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

Has anyone else had this problem?

The latest update to the free Comodo Firewall Pro (early November 2009) triggers my Webroot antivirus program, warning me that I am installing "Mal/Gampass-B." My Norton 2010 gives no such warning, nor does Superantispyware.

I am not familiar with this virus. The Comodo site FAQ was of no help, nor could I find any one else with the issue posting via Google. After about a week (today) I went ahead and installed the update, overriding Webroot.

There doesn't seem to be a problem, but I'm concerned I may have made a bad update decision.

Thanks for any insight,

Out Of Date Bob

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else here at TSG so here are the details; http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

I haven't taken my usual excessively cautious approach but have downloaded and installed it and can still get online! Apparently it's completely different from the earlier version (it's four times bigger to download for a start) and it only works with XP and Vista.

If you decide to try it you will first have to uninstall any firewalls you currently have installed, including the earlier Comodo version.

A long silence from me in the future may indicate that I fouled up with the settings and am busily looking for the .exe file for the old version!

I recently installed the freeware firewall of Comodo in my Win7 PC. However I am not too happy because of some problems and would like to remove Comodo and simply use the firewall that came with Win7 (I am using the Home Edition of Win7).

I had a hitch that probably both firewalls are somehow enabled on my Win7 PC. I went into Control Panel and turned off the bult-in Firewall of Win7 but it now show the message (or maybe the icon) that firewall is not present (EVEN though I already have COMODO installed). SO that's the first question/confusion I am facing.

The 2nd question is that how do I uninstall COMODO in a very clean manner. I remember froma long time back when I tried to remove Norton Anti-Virus and it simply refused to un-install. Will I face a similar problem when trying to remove Comodo.

Last but not least, will be very thankful if you can share tips regarding what settings I need to put in place for the Windows Firewall to work effectively. Based on what I have read, the default configuration of Win7's firewall has a lot of room for improvement and I would like it to be as secure as my favourite firewall (which I use on XP) i.e. Sygate.

Thanks in advance for your kind help.

Hi all,

I got a new PC with a new OS that I know .... little about, so much is very different from my familiar XP Pro, even the UI. So, I got lots of questions, and while most are easy to Just Google It, this is one I haven't found a clear answer to yet:

do the Windows 7/8/10 firewalls handle IPv6 traffic just like it handles IPv4 traffic, firewalling it properly? Or is the firewall just gonna let IPv6 stuff through like it had a get out of jail free card and compromise security?

I used the Windows firewall on XP and was happy with it, and I've been hoping I can do so on Win 8 as well, but I'm not sure about the IPv6 thing...

Thanks!

- MelkorF

A:Windows firewall - does it firewall IPv6 traffic?

Yes, the 7's fiewall fully supports IPv6 and properly filters its traffic whenever you setup it in a rule. When chosing the protocol it will ask about TCP/TCP6/UDP/UDP6 where you can chose the proper IP version for each program. "firewalling it properly" depends entirely on the rules you set, the default ruleset is almost equivalent to no firewall at all, but once configured it does a good job.
The XP firewall is a complete joke, with little support for fundamental features, notably outgoing filters. This has been added to 7.

Firewall Issue(s) - Windows XP Professional & Comodo Firewall Pro

Friday/December 3rd 2007: This morning I was looking at the features and settings of Comodo Firewall Pro Version 2.4.19.185. Accidentally I clicked ‘no’ when a learned prompt came up asking if I wanted to allow Avast Free Edition to connect to the net. I believe it was Avast. Anyway I figured I would uninstall and reinstall to correct the settings, no big deal, or so I thought.

When windows started back up and gave me the security alert prompt (Control Panel > Windows Security Center) and I figured no big deal. However it was saying “Comodo is not installed bla bla bla.” When I enabled XP Professional’s firewall, window’s message said, “Comodo was working, etc.”

Windows Firewall worked within normal parameters as far as I could tell otherwise. I will try to recreate issue buy uninstalling and will post detailed results later with screen shots.

Sunday/December 9th 2007: I tried recreating the incident and my results confuse me. Windows XP Professional Security Center Says “Comodo Firewall not on bla, bla, bla.” However, when I turn on XP’s firewall it says “Windows Firewall is on bla, bla, bla. So why when I turn off windows firewall does it say that “Comodo” not windows firewall is disabled?

How would I correct this?

Thank you.

The best protection is based upon the user's habits, so both could give some users the same protection level.
You could not apply this to all users since some are reckless and neither one would be able to provide protection.

Comodo Firewall has HIPS which is more likely to flag more false positives which most inexperienced users would not know how to deal with. Of coarse if the user utilizes UAC, then HIPS would not be needed.

ZoneAlarm is more user friendly, uses Behavior protection instead of HIPS which will not flag as many false positives.
ZoneAlarm is more compatible with programs.

For myself Windows Firewall provides excellent protection along with UAC with no issues at all.

Just a note: Never trust review sites or testing sites, they will install a product use it for about an hour or less then write a review.
You need to test a product for at least 30 days in order to see how it works and if any potential problems occur.

Enjoy!!

Hi and thanks for viewing this thread. I hope you can help me!
I have a few questions which I will number and I hope you can answer them in detail, as it would be much appreciated. (I am using W7 64-Bit)

1. Is Comodo Firewall reccomended? (I am using it currently but am unsure, as I have heard about some scandals pertaining to Comodo, but wanted to get your opinions) and what are other, perhaps better alternatives if there are any?

2. Should I run Comodo Firewall or any other firewall with Windows Firewall on?

3. Why does Windows Firewall have a "Domain Profile" with the firewall turned on, but a "Private Profile" with it turned off?

4. What is the advantage of using the option to join Comodo's custom DNS server when installing the firewall?

Any other insight or help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks so much for your help!

A friend that has read my previous drivel about Comodo noted to me that I never really discussed the settings of the Firewall itself. This was indeed a rather big failing on my part that I apologize for, so here is a quick Primer:

(Note that CIS and CF have differing default settings- but as I see no value in CIS the below refers to Comodo Firewall. I further assume that the Sandbox will be Enabled with the "Any" change active)

Although the Firewall module of CF lends itself to much tinkering with regards to Portsets, Network Zones, Traffic Filtering, etc. only the most Networkly adept people need to be concerned with this stuff, and quite frankly I question the real-world value of playing with these settings (it also gives me a headache). This being said, let's discuss the important things:

1). CF default settings- If you already have CF installed, all that I will discuss can be found on the main Firewall setting page (Tasks>Firewall Tasks>Open Advanced Settings).

CF is configured to start in Safe Mode- this basically allows all applications that are whitelisted by Comodo to connect to the Network without any specific rules being made. Note also on that main page there is an unchecked box to "Create Rules for Safe Applications"- if you check this box and run a safe application like an email app or web browser, CF will start to pay attention to have the specific application operates and will automatically make rules specific for it. I per... Read more

Hi Everyone;

We would like to share with you the new release CIS 8.2 press announcement.

About Comodo's Containment Technology

Comodo's containment technology ? built into CIS 8.2. - ensures that any unknown application that attempts to run on a consumer's PC does so inside a virtual environment ? without impact or disruption to the consumer. CIS 8.2 then isolates and analyzes all of the identified unknown files, destroys any malware or bad files, and allows good files to execute seamlessly.

Comodo's containment technology has been battle tested in the most hostile of security environments ? the endpoint ? where consumers are constantly attacked with the threat of viruses, spam, and other forms of malware. Since the launch of Comodo Internet Security, Comodo introduced a $500 'virus-free' guarantee to any consumer who gets infected using the product ? with no valid claims to date.

New Features of CIS 8.2

An improved antivirus engine, which simplifies the performance and increases the protection for a consumer's PC
A permanent "upgrade" button on the main user interface frame, allowing consumers to easily upgrade to Comodo Pro or Comodo Complete, whenever they want
Windows 10 Support, to complement current compatibility with Windows Vista and XP
Both Vietnamese and Romanian language support, which now makes 25 total languages supported by CIS

Im actually having an issue currently with the Win 7 firewall and my bittorrent client, uTorrent.

uTorrent reports that its not connectible due to a router or NAT error. Although I am still getting traffic through from AIX (BF2 Mod). The speedguide to test if the port is forwarded properly reports that the port does not appear to be open. I have allowed uTorrent both in inbound and outbound traffic and I have allowed it on Private and Public connections and still no change in status. Any clues on this?

I have completely uninstalled Windows 7 Firewall control and completely turned off the Windows 7 Firewall all together after I reset its options back to default. With it off uTorrent still reports that the port is not open. I have a firewall on my router, but I have it set to be turned off.

Any idea on where to start trouble shooting? Its actually quite bothersome knowing that my firewall is messing up.

A:Win 7 Firewall Blocking Traffic

Firewall has nothing to do in this case. The port has to be forwarded in your router/modem.Note down the listening port number for incoming connections in uTorrent settings ( Options > Preferences > Connections )Open your router settings by typing its default IP address ( like 192.168.1.1 ) in browser. How to forward the port depends on the model of router you have. You can find the instructions for doing so in the router manual. You may also find the instructions at http://www.portforward.com/You can also post the make and model number here, there is a possibility that some of BC members have the same model.

Hi;

I hope someone can help. I always keep an eye on my firewall traffic log, and over the past few weeks I have noticed a much higher amount of incoming traffic attempting to access my computer. About 90% of it comes from the same IP address (or similar range).

I know this is often caused by some infection/spyware, but I have run every scan in the book, and nothing comes up. Also, I am obsessively (!) careful about what I download.

Does anyone have any idea why I am getting all this traffic from one place? I appreciate your time. Thanks guys.

This is a new one to me, so I thought I had better open it up to all the brainiacs out there.

Currently I run a netowrk with an internal IIS web server. I have a Firebox Edge firewall. Normally everything is fine and dandy. No problems most of the time. That is, unless I alter my firewall settings in any way.

If I do ANYTHING on the firewall (even as simple as changing an allowed service) it immeadiatly starts seeing all (and I mean ALL) incoming HTTP traffic as an attack. Namely, as a 'spoofed IP address' attack.

It will see all outside traffic, and all internal requests at spoofed. I try rebooting the firewall, nothing. I try stopping and restarting IIS, nothing. The problem disappears as soon as I reboot the server itself, but I really don't like having to do that everytime....

This has stumped me. Any ideas?

The firebox is running firmware 7.1.1
The web server is running IIS 6 on W2k3 server.
Thanks,

Hi all, I have the free Comodo firewall and have been mostly happy with it. Usually when it's normal when you run the cursor over the icon it says it is running and protecting or something to that effect. The last couple of days it says "Comodo firewall is being initialized....." Does that mean it's trying to update? I've restarted the computer a couple of times but it still says the same. I worry that it is not protecting correctly. Has anybody else seen this? Thanks

A:Comodo Firewall

Hi lazlopitt, Comodo firewall is active from when you turn the computer on. So you are protected, absolutely. As for the initializing you can stop it. Right click the tray icon, altering or even touching the Alert Level bar. This causes the mouse-over message to be corrected. This is a temporary fix. It may have some thing to do with Avast but not necessarily. Anyway Comodo says it will be fixed in the next version.

Now that I've moved to Win/7 which has a much better default FW, I no longer advocate any 3rd party FB.
The Windows version is sufficient and there's no conflict or maintenance issues to be configured.

A:COMODO firewall pro

Hi mrjay100,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

The general rule is that you do not want to have more than one antivirus or firewall program installed on your computer. One of each is fine. Anti spyware/adware programs like Windows Defender, SUPERAntiSpyware, Spybot Search & Destroy, etc. usually do not have a problem with more than one of them installed and running. In fact you should be using more than one since no one program can completely protect you from these malwares.

I use COMODO Firewall Pro, Avast antivirus, Windows Defender, and Spybot Search & Destoy. All running all the time in the background monitoring away with no problems between them.

Hope this helps,

I am not a fan of AVG free anti virus. I have used most of the free ones, and I had more problems with AVG than any other. It is notoriously resource hungry (my computer was very sluggish when I had it installed), had mediocre detection rates and many false positives. I understand AVG have tried to address some of these issues with their latest version but, far better, in my view, to go for a tried, tested and trusted anti virus, and my recommendation is Avast free, which I have used for some time now and have been very happy with.

As for Comodo firewall, it is an outstanding choice. I use it with Avast and have had no infections since installation. Its excellent Defense+ malware prevention system also gives additional protection against any nasties. If you need help with installation and setup, Gizmo's freeware have a useful guide: http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-install-comodo-firewall.htm

Your link is indeed the official Comodo website, but to avoid any confusion with their paid products, you may wish to use this link: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/firewall.php

Good luck.

I have tried and tried with Comodo Firewall and no matter what settings, training mode, etc. I cannot get it to allow another computer on my network to see me, see the shared printer or a shared folder.

I would like to have Comodo installed, but if I can't use my network, well, it's kind of useless. The second I unistall Comodo, the other computer can access the shared folder and printer no problem.

Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to configure Comodo to allow this other computer and sharing between them in Windows 7?

Thanks!

are you able to see your network with comodo installed but using the lowest setting of protection?
if you can then its a matter of creating a rule allowing access...
if its not then its comodo itself the problem (firewalls really sink in into the internals of windows so with things on the inside changing its no wonder why it wont crash...)
if its the latter then you might have to look for another firewall or stick to the regular windows firewall (which is pretty good with the added vista firewall control program)

Taking a look at Comodo's free Firewall and noticed they have a free Firewall+AV app which looks pretty good in the writeup. I'm aware Comodo Firewall is an excellent program, how about the AV part... Any happy users out there???

I believe you get the AV too when you dowload the free firewall.
I chose only to install the Firewall.
I use another AV program.
I did read that the Comodo AV may not be as developed as some others such as Norton, Avast or AVG.
It might be worth a try and see if you like the Comodo AV and tell us how you like it.

However, now it's giving me this message.. Saying that my Defense+ isn't working properly. I already did the Diagnostic.. Anyone know how to fix? And how to configure to best protective settings?

This is my 2nd firewall program. I've used Windows Firewall for a LONG time.

As some people on Techspot, occasionally complain that the ubiquitous Zone Alarm
is less than perfect,I decided to check out Comodo firewall. Here are my random comments -

The good points :

1.It`s free.

2.It installs easily on my P.3 XP SP1 machine.

3.Appears to use even fewer resources than ZA.

4.The default settings seem about right, except for the Application behaviour monitoring,
which could be turned off

5.Has plenty of paranoia settings, for those who are that way inclined.

6.I like it better than ZA or Kerio and will to continue to use it,until blows up my system for no apparent reason.

The not so good points :

1.It`s more complicated than ZA,so for a complete novice,it could be offered as
a possible alternative to ZA,rather than a definite replacement.

2.It`s so "quiet",it`s sometimes difficult to know if it`s actually working at all (it is).

3.The developers still haven`t paid me yet.

dll validation too

one aspect I like is that when a DLL is loaded with network access, the firewall
can bless or deny access to the net at this level. This means you get a chance
to see what svchost (and other *.exe programs) is loading for fine-grain
control. You can set an option to LEARN the components and then after a couple
of days, revert to monitor components=ON
(so clearly, I like 4.the Application behaviour monitoring)

the logging is interesting, in that it reports the parent of the application,
the application itself, and the activity that was attempted. the classification of
Severe, High, Low risk is arbitrary, so don't get too alarmed at these.

the firewall comes PRE-CONFIGURED with not only reasonable defaults, but
it also is prepared to support a VPN connection;
allow IP/GRE {in,out}bound
the access to port 53 (ie: dns) is caught and if the app/dll is not totally mapped
by the firewall, it is rated Severe (or was it High) Risk. Heck, all URL translations
need port 53 so plan on setting it as ALLOW.

the other day, a web application had a link for email us and upon clicking,
my email program (Thunderbird) was launched; Comodo caught the action
and clearly showed the attempted SILENT invocation of Thunderbird.
Yea sure it had a window and I knew what/when and why, but if some
vile bugger was launched w/o a window I would have not known it unless
Comodo was there to show me {4. Application behaviour monitoring in effect }

just a quick question about Comodo.
i've used it now for about 3 years,& so far no complaints.
i was a big Zone Alarm fan until version 5 sometime back which was a total disaster,so i searched for a new firewall,& Comodo got glowing reviews across the board,so i went with it,& like i say have no complaints.
my only query is,the thing never updates!
every other application i have ,anti-virus etc regulary updates its programs,& Comodo even has an 'updater' button in its layout, but every time i click on it,it comes back'no updates' i dont think i've had an update since i installed it!
does anybody else find this strange?
is the site still in buisness?
just wondering if i should keep it,or try something else.
thanks.

Can I ask what version you are using?. If you have used it for three years I suspect you are using v2.4 which was discontinued. The latest version is Comodo CIS v3.12.111745.360 which is a Security suite including Firewall and Anti-Virus. Here is a link to the excellent Comodo Forums where you can find the download links and also some excellent user advice. By the way it is still free and if you don't want to use the built in AV then just uncheck the AV box during the installation process. For the download link:https://forums.comodo.com/feedbackcommentsa...d-t45362.0.htmlThe main Forums link:https://forums.comodo.com/index.php

The LAST thing that I am is a Comodo expert, but I've explored mine quite a bit, and I don't recall ever seeing any.

Comodo has an excellent help forum of their own. They provide a link to it right on the "home page" (I'm not sure what to actually call it) of their program. Good luck!
