I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:how to join an email group

Hi mord,

You could setup a free email account via the web at any number of websites: Yahoo, Google, etc., e.g. just join and create a member name (like mord) and a unique password for your account at Yahoo. Google has Gmail accounts - I don't know about them.

You can then use the webmail account for you at that website by just logging in there.

I'm the only one in my family (out of 4) who has Windows 7. Everyone else has XP. They're all in a network that my father named "Tungsten".

Now, I've spent countless hours troubleshooting this, to no avail. How do I join the "Tungsten" group, so that everyone else in my family can see my PC.

Also, I think at one point I fixed this, but I've reinstalled Windows twice since then (no problems, just regular maintenance, I reinstall every few months), but I still had a problem: my family had to put in a username and password to be able to access my PC's shared files/folders. How do I remove that, after I join the network?

A:Join a Windows XP network group.

Both computers running windows 7 professional, removed antivirus and firewall from both. Both networked on home network settings . I created the group on my laptop and my desktop sees it but just hangs when trying to join it.

I cannot get my desktop to see nor create a home group, the system just lags with no result.

Comcast cable modem with a wifi router installed. I think it's a issue with the wifi router blocking something or maybe I need to do a clean install.

Are you sure that the Comcast cable modem isn't a modem/router combo unit?

If so there are some adjustments to the secondary router that will fix the problem.

Have a look here: Why can't I join a homegroup?

And here: Join a homegroup

The important thing to remember is that the Windows 7 Starter and Basic editions will only let you join a homegroup, not create one.

Have you created a homegroup on another Windows 7 computer in your network?

Hi guys,
Iíve a question regarding local admin group management.
Suppose a user is responsible for managing some application installed on a server. The user doesnít normally need to change server configuration like IP address, time settings and so (i.e. privileges).
For Microsoft applications like SharePoint or for servers like IIS I can use the preconfigured groups. But suppose weíre talking about some third party application and I canít know for sure what kind of access the user need.
Maybe the user need to install something and thus require modify permission to some files also the installation may need to change some registry values and configure services.
For example, one of the application owners in my organization needs to connect some constructor to perform some maintenance on a server. Of course I can limit his access but what if he need perform installation of software or change some registry? In any case the application owner will have to find some system administrator to connect him with the needed level of access.
So as we can see I need to find a way to combine permissions and privileges.
My question is what is the correct approach in this situation?

1. Are there any best practices or guide lines for this issue? Iíve searched many forums but wasnít able find some clear approach and best practices.
2. Is it acceptable to give application owner or developers local admin permissions? Maybe itís the way to go and Iím wasting my time here.

Right here is the situation: -

I have a Vista computer which I am testing on our network. Our network is made up of all Windows XP Pro machines and is run on a Windows Server 2003 environment.
For our XP machines, we have created a GPO on the domain for the windows firewall so that when the computer is logged on, the GPO is picked up and the firewall is automatically configured for our computers.
One feature of Vista is the advanced Windows firewall.
Also one feature of Vista is the fact that when you create a GPO in Vista, it uses .admx/.adml files instead of .adm files.
This means that the following steps need to be taken to be able to create Vista GPOs on our domain.

I have now populated the domain controller with these files and so these should now be picked up when i go to create a new GPO on the Vista machine.
But when I go to create a GPO on the Vista machine and I am connected to the domain, for some reason it is not picking up the .admx/.adml files that I copied to the Domain Controller.
So I am unable to configure the Advanced Firewall settings that come with Vista.
I have read that there are two versions of group policy management console, version 1 and version 2.
Apparently Vista comes installed with version 2 as it does not work with version 1. But suprise suprise, my buisiness edition came with version 1!!

Could that be where the problem is?
If so, then I wont be able to do an... Read more

I'm having a bit of trouble retrieving a mailbox in Exchange 2007 using the recovery storage group.

I've set up the recovery storage group, and restored my storage group "SG1" which contains 4 mailbox stores.

The user mailbox I need to recover is in SG1\Mailbox3

When I restore the backup to the exchange server it creates the edb files within the recovery storage group, but instead of being approx 9gb, they are only around 1mb. Then when I try and browse for a user mailbox to restore, it says "mo mailbox found"

Am I missing something?

I tried installing VMWare workstation and when it got to then end it said it could not create the user and group name on my system.

When I went into Computer Management and clicked on Local User and Groups, in the Groups folder none of the built in group names show up.

For instance in Groups you should have:
Backup Operators
Network Configuration
Power Users (etc.)

Well you get the jist of it.

Anyways none of those entries show up. I tried adding in Administrators manually and it said user group is already there. It doesn't show though.

I also created an entry called TEST and I added me to that as an administrator and it created it however then TEST name doesn't show up
in the Group Names.

At one time I had some malware and when I finally got rid of it I used a registry cleaner to clean up my registry. I was careful not to
delete stuff that should be there but I was wondering if something could've been deleted. Maybe a SID entry? I compared my desktop registry
with my laptop registry and the SID's do seem to match up for the most part.

I googled this problem and a the MIcrosoft website said to reinstall SP3. I did that but still no luck.

Does anyone know what to do? I am running Windows XP Pro SP3. I have a Workgroup set up but I'm not part of a domain if anyone asks that question.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:No Built-in Group Names Show Up in Computer Management

It sounds most likely that there's something corrupted in your registry that's related to permissions - and I'd suspect that it's related to the malware rather than the registry cleaner. I'd suggest something like the RRT (Remove Restrictions Tool) as a first guess, but haven't used it myself. It's available here: http://www.sergiwa.com/en/modules/mydownlo...cid=2&lid=1

I've just bought a Samsung SATA DVD drive, model SH-S223L/RSMN. It appears in Device Manager as TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223L ATA Device. Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit.

It seems to be working fine, but in Windows Explorer (Tiles, Group by Type) it appears in the Hard Disk Drives group, and not under Removable Storage.

The only change I have made since installing it is to add an UpperFilters entry to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} to make iTunes start without complaining. I don't think this is related.

Previously, I had installed Windows 7 on a new SSD and also installed a new 1TB hard drive for file storage, photos, and programs. The SSD crashed and I had to get another one. I just installed Windows on it and then added my hard drive, which still has files on it when I ran the first SSD.

The hard drive shows in BIOS but not in My Computer. I went to Disk Management and it was listed as Foreign. I read that I should choose the option, Import Foreign Disk, which I did. I kept the same drive letter it had the first time around, and which showed this time, W. It is now listed as Disk 1, Dynamic Online, & Healthy. Now what do I need to do to continue to use it as I did previously, while keeping my data? I don't want to lose my files and photos, but I can always download the software again if I lose the programs.

Group Policies Ė Windows 2000 Server Ė Power settings on laptops

Our school has a Windows 2000 Server, various 9x workstations, and 25 laptops with Windows 2000. The laptops are in a cart and are shared by five classrooms of students (grades 5 to 8). Each student has his own login and weíre using roaming user profiles.
My problem is this: I want to change the power management settings on the laptops to increase the time before blanking the screen, increase the time before going to standby, etc. When I log onto the laptops as administrator and change the settings, the settings donít apply when a student logs on. Students canít change the settings because they donít have access. Iím thinking the best way to set those settings is with a group policy. All the laptops are in a group. I have not been able to find these power settings in the group policies. I have searched through the settings but have not found the power management. Does someone know exactly what I need to do?

I have an Ideadpad Y500 (Model 20193) running Windows 8.1. It has the original/factory 15gb mSATA SSD and ~1tb conventional SATA HDD. The two drives (SSD and HDD) are managed by Intel Rapid Storage, a sort of software RAID management utility. Although Windows Disk Management (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) sees the two drives as separate devices (see below), they are in a RAID, so to normal Windows, they just look like a single HDD. I want to remove the SSD from the RAID. It is throwing frequent errors. My Windows Event Viewer (via Control Panel \ Administrative Tools) is full of hundreds thousands of warnings about problems with the SSD. It is nearing end of life. A few times a day the computer will reboot -- but only when running Windows. When I am running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Linux) it will run for a year without rebooting. I suspect that the Ubuntu installation is bypassing the Intel Rapid Storage software RAID and just directly using the ~1tb SATA HDD (ignoring the 15gb SSD).  I can access the Intel Rapid Storage management program in Windows, but it doesn't give me the option to break apart the RAID; to remove the SSD from the RAID. Supposedly there's a way to access it during POST by pressing ctrl-I, but that doesn't work for me. I can't figure out how to access the Intel Rapid Storage management via BIOS and that's the only place where I could (in theory) break apart the RAID and remove the SSD from the equation.  I realize, of course,... Kind regards

A:SSD not showing in Disk Management, but showing on Intel Rapid Storage

Could we get some more information?

Does this laptop have 2 hard drive bays? Did it always have 2 hard drives?
What does "deleting and renewing the old partition" mean?

What I suspect is that the SSD has a partition that is still marked ACTIVE. Windows will boot from one Active partition and ignore the other. So if the SSD has just one partition that is marked active then the whole drive would be ignored.

If you deleted the partition in Disk Management or some 3rd party program then that would have taken care of the Active flag on that partition. But if you just deleted the contents of the partition that would have left the flag.

Let us know what you did.

EDIT: I should add: any partition that contained an operating system will have the active flag. This is not something you would have had to do yourself.

A:System Admins, And Group Policys

The policies depend on whether the computer is part of a network and/or domain or not, but it is not something that you should have to deal with on a Windows reinstallation even if it is connected to a home network.

Did you do a format and a fresh installation or did you do a repair install which retains all the settings the previous installation had?

What firewall are you using?

Are you using XP Home or XP Pro?

What specific problems are you having?

A device with an identifier 'PCI System Management Bus' is part of the power management system of the motherboard. It does a few neat things like if you press the power button in windows instead of just turning the computer off it shuts it down first and then turns it off.
Later versions of Windows support this natively , but the original 98 does not)

The motherboard CD will usually contain a driver to support this. If you don't have this, then check the motherboard manufacturer's website.

If you can't find a driver for it, I would suggest that you go to the Intel website http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/Support_Intel.asp. On the left side of this link, select "chipset software", then "Intel chipset software installation utility"....and download the Intel(R) INF installation utility located ..
Now about your PS2 mouse i belive that you either have a bad port or conflict with IRQ 12 ( used by PS2)

Hello. My computer is running under windows xp. I want to restore my computer because it's been infected, but it won't let me. I managed to get into regedit.exe/windowsnt/...i delete "disablesr" but it keeps coming back, it won't delete.
how do I fix this?

A:system restore has been turned off by group policy.

Welcome to the forum.
Some more detail is required. Do you know what virus, malware etc. it is.
It is unlikely that system restore will have any effect anyway.
There are very likely other problems, which you may not yet have found.
Presuming that you have posted this on the computer in question, click the link and do a scan.
Then post back with what it has found and the answer please, to the FIRST question.
Check ALL, after the scan and report any problems ie: access to system tools etc., including of course restore.
Unless you are sure what you are doing, may I advise you, NOT to attempt any edits of the registry.

Please refer to my previous thread "Corrupt Administrator Account" because I think it's related.

I was prompted to install an update to iTunes and it failed when I ran it. Next tried to restore from a couple of restore points and it failed, saying that a file was open, probably from my antivirus software.

Then I downloaded the latest iTunes and tried to install it. It wouldn't work until I followed Apple's instruction to install Microsoft KB2999226. Then I could install it using the "repair iTunes" option. Created a new restore point, "after iTunes".

Since creating the "Sue" user that I'm now using I have never tried a restore. So I decided to test my "after iTunes" restore point and restore from it. Wouldn't work. Got these fatal errors in Event Viewer:
Distributed Com event id 10016
VDS Basic Provider event id 1

Booted to safe mode with cmd prompt and ran rstrui.exe to restore my "after iTunes" restore point. It completed successfully BUT on reboot I got logged in with a temp profile. Rebooted, got logon screen, chose "Sue" account. Got message:
"The Group Policy Client service failed the logon. Access is denied."

Tried my two other accounts "Roger" and "xfer data user." Same result.

What do I do now? I saw some articles about using regedit to disable group policy. One of the articles is http://www.computerstepbystep.com/group_policy_windows_7.h... Read more

ahhhh this is a nightmare, computer was running fine last night, woke up this morning, powered it up and everything is a bit strange. the log in screen is as it should be but it took about a minute to load up, then it looked a bit ... old school if you know what i mean, with the basic toolbar, and it only has a few of my icons on my desktop.
i get a bubble in the bottom right saying:

This is a complete mystery to me, tried a google but didn't find anything usefull.

Now I try a few restarts and each time it seems to load differently each time, sometimes i can get my background and a few more icons, sometimes all.

Sometimes getting a few blue screens, followed by a restart.

Each program I open, it opens as a first time open, - registereing programs, saving passwords etc.

I am quite worried that I have buggerred my computer completely, as I have already reinstalled vista a few months ago using the disk that comes with the computer, and I am not sure if you can use that disk more than once...

Was thinknig about what I was doing last night before all this happened and I installed a program called DANCE EJAY 7 and it would not run on vista so I did a bit of research to see if there was a patch of some sort and I came across something c... Read more

Hey all,

The other day I wanted to create a system restore point, but when I went into system properties and then the system protection tab, I noticed that it says "Restore point creation disabled by group policy". I run vista home premium, which doesn't come with the group policy editor, so I have no idea how to fix it. What's more wortrying is that I have no idea how this happened. I have been using this laptop for over a year now, and previously have created restore points. The thing is I haven't done so in a while so it's hard for me to narrow down what could have caused this (it could've happened over 5 months ago). I installed paragon total defrag two days ago, and when I did so it asked if I wanted to create a restore point, which worked fine. So here's some background info:

I have recently installed a trial version of ashampoo winoptimizer, but I highly doubt that I would've accidentally changed a setting in there to prevent new restore points from being created. I have also started using winpatrol again. I use avira antivir for my antivirus, and recently upgraded from the free personal version to the premium version. I already ran a few scans, namely spybot, ad-aware and malwarebytes, plus a complete scan with avira. Nothing turned up in any of them. Do you think any of the programs I installed could've implemented that group policy restriction? There are some other tweaking programs I've used in the past, like tweakVI, enhancemyvista, and smart pc utilit... Read more
