Option to change lock screen under personalization is missing.

Q: Option to change lock screen under personalization is missing.

I've changed my lock screen a few times in the past and and when I changed to my new Surface Pro I wanted to change the lock screen. The problem is that whenever I open up settings and go to personalization the "Change Lock Screen" option is
not there where it's suppose to be. It's like the feature is just simply missing.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello there,

Just today, I noticed that the system sound I had set for selection (selecting desktop icons, etc) was not playing, even while other system sounds were. Upon investigation, I was alarmed to find that the 'Select' trigger was completely absent from the system sounds list.
My own attempts to find a solution to this problem have been unsuccessful-can anyone help me both explain and solve this peculiar behaviour?

Thank you.

I recently used ccleaner to clean all of my free space. I included the option of clearing cluster tips. Although I don't use this option all the time I have used it before with no ill effect. Once completed I rebooted my computer and discovered that the Aero theme was gone. I right clicked on the desktop to select Personalization but under the first option, Window Color and Appearance, the option for Color was missing. Under Themes the Aero theme is also missing. I did a search and discovered that all the Aero files are on my hard drive. When I selected it in the Theme option by browsing to the Aero theme it will not stay selected.

I've tried a number of things to correct this. I have scanned for viruses and spyware and found nothing. I have used sfc /scannow in safe mode and some errors were corrected. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem. I've also used chkdsk with no success.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have used the Aero Theme on this computer for years so I know my hardware is capable of supporting it. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium with service pack two.

A:Vista personalization option (color) missing

First thing I would try is reinstalling your video card drivers. Aero is not just a color, it is a transparency effect that relies on DirectX so if you are missing your video acceleration then you won't have Aero as an option.

I have a tablet PC that I have framed and hung in the kitchen, mostly to replace an aging Sonos controller. Now I would like lock screen to display some useful things such as a detailed weather forecast graph. I do not know, however, how far one can push the "personalization" of the lock screen (from what I understand, not very far).

The best thing by far would be to force the lock screen to behave like a browser, pointing to a webpage that uses jQuery (or similar) to pull and update any content. Is there a way to do that? I suspect that the answer is "no", but it doesn't hurt to ask.

A:lock screen - windows spotlight option not working

I believe the Windows 10 sign in image must be disabled first, as I've never been able to get a customization to stick without disabling it

To disable the sign in image, open regedit (winkey + R, then regedit) and copy/paste the following into the nav bar:

Create new DWORD:
Set value data: 1
For spotlight, are you setting it simply to allow a custom lock screen image, or do you want to use the actual spotlight feature, which pulls images randomly from Bing depending on your preferences? If it's the latter, someone else will need to chime in as I've never wanted or used that.

However, if it's the former, and you're simply looking to utilize your own custom image for the lock screen:
Navigate to C:\Windows\Web\Screen and paste your custom image
Rename the pasted image to img100.1
You cannot simply replace one of the 6 default images, as SFC and certain updates will delete the file since it won't have parity with the WinSxS component store.I recommend renaming it img100.x, as that will ensure it's the first image shown in Settings - Personalization - Lock screen

A:can't change lock screen in W8.1

Hello usmc362,

In Windows 8 and 8.1 there are two "Lock" screens.

The user lock screen is the one that displays when a user locks the PC while still signed in to Windows, and when the user is selected on the sign in screen, times out, and returns to the lock screen. Each user is able to change their lock screen background image to an image of their choice. The default Lock screen image is the one that displays when there are no users currently signed in to Windows or selected on the sign in screen.
It sounds like you may need to change the default lock screen.

Hi, I have problem changing both my lock screen and acc. pic. Every time I try to change, the preview pic just keep loading forever without changing the wallpaper/acc.pic. How can I fix this?

I have Windows 8.1 and from time to time I change the lock screen image, which appears initially when my PC is started up.

There has never been any problem with this until a few days ago, when suddenly the lock screen manager within the PC settings page has stop working properly.

Usually the personalise section will contain the main lock screen image, along with the account picture and picture password image (A). Both of these work as normal when I click either image, but when I click the lock screen, I would normally get the large main picture with five smaller images of pictures, that I have chosen or used below it. However the smaller images have now disappeared (B), and although I can choose a new image via the browse button, this leads to lock screen preview image continously in a loading phase (C).

I have tried some of the various troubleshooting methods from Microsoft and other websites, such as searching for the B4FB3F98 file which does exist as 'Other Users' in the Registry Editor, and also the SystemData file which I do not have the permission to delete.

I will very grateful for any information, advice and solutions for this problem.

Many thanks.

A:change windows lock screen.

Two ways a program called displayfusion
or the manual way...

Click start type regedit and hit enter ->right click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and select find ->
Type OEMBackground and hit enter
(the path should be Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background )
(if it is not there you need to create it*right click on background and select new DWORD name it OEMBackground set it from 0 to 1)
Now Double left click on OEMBackground and change the value from 0 to 1
Click start and type %windir%\system32\oobe -> in the oobe folder create a folder named info -> in that folder create a folder named backgrounds

Rename your picture that you want displayed durning logon/lock screen backgroundDefault.jpg

EVERYTHING is case sensitive so copy and paste the names.

The picture needs to be under 244kb.
The trick to get a picture under the 244kb -> right click on the picture and select open with > select paint -> press ctrl+w
This will bring up a box under horizontal and vertical select the amount you want to reduce the picture in %

Have to follow the step exactly and again everything is case sensitive.

a lot of work for something that may change back after updates; overall i'd suggest the program. It cost money but there are a lot of other useful things it does as well.

Best of luck!

So i'm having an issue where my cover photo and profile picture won't change on my laptop (aka lockscreen). The pictures currently on my lockscreen were my old cover photo and profile picture on facebook, and have since changed on facebook. I uninstalled and then re-installed facebook. I made sure profile sync was turned off and everything. Now, I changed my profile picture for microsoft, and that worked, except on the lockscreen page it is the same old facebook picture.
With the lockscreen wallpaper, it will not let me change it at all. In the personalization settings, it will let me browse for a picture, but will not load the preview.
I have tried everything. I've spent two days on the forums trying to figure this out. I have done the sfc /scannow several times. I have checked for virus. I checked to see if the new update messed with it, and I couldn't find the exact update everyone else was referring to; it didn't exist on my computer. The only thing that worked at all was when I did the registry editor, and disabled the lockscreen altogether. Hey guys,

I'm new here but i'm also on the Windows 7 and Windows 8 forums too.

Anyways, i got a new laptop and installed the Facebook app from the Windows Store and it asked me if i wanted to sync my Facebook profile picture and cover photo as the user photo and lock screen picture. I didn't mean to click yes as my cover photo at the time was a stupid one. I've tried uninstalling the Facebook app to make the lock screen picture go away and used the control panel to manually change back to Windows Spotlight. But it still does not change. Whenever i restart my laptop the stupid picture of Ainsley Harriot comes up before the logon screen, but when i lock my laptop it shows the Spotlight. It's weird. I'm new to Windows 10 so i'm unsure what the issue is here.

Any ideas?

A:Lock Screen Does Not Change To Windows Spotlight.

Hi Atif,

Glad you are also joining the Ten Forums

Yes, I've noticed the old lock screen picture still shows up even though the Spotlight is selected and works for whenever the PC sleeps or is locked.

The way to change this is to go back to the Lock Screen settings and select Picture and change it to something other than the one you dislike. Then once the new picture is registered you can reselect Spotlight.

If one of the Spotlight pictures particularly appeals to you you can find it and then select it as a Picture by following the information in this tutorial:

A:Unable to change lock screen background mode.

I have a very similar problem as this with my lockscreen which I've been trying to fix for about a week. I have seen that it seems many have similar problems so it may be a common windows error. For a while my lockscreen was the default red rock formation but only half of it showed as the bottom half was black. Now, when waking from sleep or restarting, My lock screen will be all black when I wake it up like it's trying to load a picture but cant. I can't click through to the sign in screen so I have to wait but it eventually just goes to the signin screen. Attempting to go to personalization>lockscreen grays settings out without going to the lockscreen option and then I just have to close settings. I tried Deleting all files in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Loca lState\Assets and turned off sync for themes and windows settings and windows spotlight was working fine with new images last night and this morning but now it's back to the same thing. Hi, recently i've tried to change my Lock Screen settings and i've found that the entire page in PC settings for the Lock Screen seems corrupt in some way. As can be seen from the screenshot below, I cannot view my current lock screen background (no endless spinnning wheel, just an empty area) or change it (if i click on one of the others, the chosen picture appears to move into the white space area although I still can't see it - the old one just moves into view below - although it does change the actual lock screen background) and weirdly the Lock Screen apps are showing their application path rather than their icons - even if i try to change them, it still shows their path - and I don't feel they're actually being displayed on the lock screen regardless.

Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried deleting the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData folder that was suggested in another thread, but that has had zero effect.

A:(Solved) Boot option screen missing, I lost my windows XP

It is kind of frustrating when this happens but the problem can be corrected quite easily. There is a file called Boot.ini which I believe is hidden and read only so you will have to change the attributes before any corrections can be made.
Go to control panel\folder options and set to show hidden files, click apply then ok.
Next do a search for boot.ini
Once found right click it and select properties. Remove the read only check mark and click apply then ok.
Now right click the boot.ini file again and select open with notepad.
Once open locate the line that reads:
This line should currently read 0 (zero) and look like Timeout=0
Change the zero to whatever amount of seconds you wish the boot loader to appear before timeout. 5 seconds is usually sufficient but you are allowed up to 999.
After changing it click file up top of notepad and select save.
Set file attribute back to read only and change the show hidden files back to normal setting.

Restart system and your menu should appear.

Hi there.First post but hoping someone can help me. We have an ideacentre A10 700-24ISH. We turned the touchscreen off not long after getting the computer as it wasn't working very well. There looks to have been a change to the windows 10 log in today (is it the new Hello?) and we can no longer enter our password or access any of the icons on the lock screen, which means the machine is unusable. Can anyone help us to find a solution for this? Thanks a lot. PS - added a photo; we cannot type anything in the password box
