I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If you people want help stop using p2p Software not only does hijacjthis identify you have those programs running But techguy peeps usually frown on these programs because they cause alot of problems!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes im yelling i have fixed many pc's and uninstalled their p2p clients! i believe if you want software and music go to a computer store it is usually there you can find alot of programs cheap!

A:REAd this important!

Hiya-- TSG helpers are allowed to assist with poster's problems, even though they do show P2P programs being used. We normally ask that any such programs be uninstalled, and give good evidence as to why...as runnyooze posted, they are just plain asking for trouble for the most part.
Depending on where a user of P2P is located, the programs themselves may be legal, or not...
So, we can advise those people, but not require that P2P be removed. If a user is smart, they do. The owner of TSG has made it clear that we cannot SUPPORT the use of, or help with working around problems WITH P2P itself...but, we can certainly assist with removing the junk it comes with or allows into computers...(hope I got that right).

Those of us who realize these things, post accordingly, and if the poster responds that they do want help removing P2P apps, and curing the problems they have that assumedly resulted from filesharing...they will get good help at techSupportGuy.

Some of the networks for P2P are being shut down...things are probably going to get worse. The files downloaded through filesharing are not always what you think, and those who already have been through this can speak about that...

There are perfectly safe alternatives and new ideas coming along and already existing that do almost as well as P2P...

Got a PM from E-Liam.

Just been warned about this by a colleague in our IT dept at work.

If you see an email with WTC, World Trade Centre or 9/11 in the header..DON'T OPEN IT. I'll try and get more specific detail later, as I'm not around for a bit, but on opening it will destroy all dynamic link libraries.

Just got to pass this to a couple of other forums before I go. If any one can find more out in the meantime!!!!!

Cheers

I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all.

If you receive an email called "WTC Survivor" do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files) from your computer. This is a serious one.

This is to all the many people who are posting HijackThis logs.

Could I please ask for your cooperation with this.

There are many HJT! logs posted here, and they are all an individual snapshot of the running processes on your PC. If you have a look around this forum, you can see many unique examples of this. Of course they all require a certain amount time to perform the analysis; in order for you, the user, to get the most out of the service that both the HJT! team and the people who analyse these logs at TSG, provide for you.

It is with this in mind that I ask all those who wish to post their HJT! log, to do so in it's own individual thread: ie. not attaching it to the thread of someone elses log, even if the problems seem to be similar.

Could I also ask that you start only one thread with your HJT! log, as posting one in, say, Operating Systems and another one here, only results in having two or more people tied up analysing the same log.

While this may seem like a good idea, as there are far more logs posted than there are people to analyse them, it will almost certainly result in a delay in people getting a resolution to their problems.

To give an idea of the time involved, I have recently started analysing these logs. To do a thorough identification on a large HJT! log, obviously infested with loads of rubbish, can occaisionally take the better part of an hour. I'm new to it, and I'm sure that most are quicker than I, but it still takes time, espec... Read more

Netscape has been cancelling people's account without any warning. It happened to me. I had an account with them for more than 6 years, and they disabled my account. Many people are falling into a trap and pay netscape $39 to talk to their "Tech Support", just to hear that nothing can be done to restore the account. To my opinion , it is a dirty scam to get money out of people. This is very dishonest. They should have asked people for money, and given them time to move their contact/e-mail if they chose not to pay.

If you have an account with Netscape, I advise you to MOVE all you CONTACTS, and important e-mail IMMEDIATELY. This may happen to you soon.

Needless to say, you can not open another account with them using the same user name.

Do your friends a favor, and let them know about this.

I have an external hard drive that i use for my work files. Both my computers have a problem reading my hard drive, and i need these files. This is what's going on

If i go to my computer, the hard drive is not there, but it's plugged in via usb
I right click my computer, manage, device manager, devices, i can see the hard drive
I noticed in my computer i will get flashes of the hard drive. It will be there for a second and disappear, back and fourth.
When it does show for that split second it shows just drive H, instead of drive H (work files), which is what i named it.
I also noticed that when it's plugged into my pc, it's been slowing it down tremendously. When i unplug it, computer runs fine again.
I've tried it on both computers and i get the same thing.
I don't know if the drive has a virus, and i would like to scan it, but i cant see the drive to do so

Help please

A:IE Extremly hijacked

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

Please move hijackthis.exe into a permanent folder.

To create a permanent folder click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar click on File, New, Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder.
Download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here.
Install ewido.
During the installation, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
Launch ewido
It will prompt you to update click the OK button and it will go to the main screen
On the left side of the main screen click update
Click on Start and let it update.
DO NOT run a scan yet. You will do that later in safe mode.
Click here for info on how to boot to safe mode if you don't already know how.
Now copy these instructions to notepad and save them to your desktop. You will need them to refer to in safe mode.
Restart your computer into safe mode now. Perform the following steps in safe mode:
Run Ewido:
Click on scanner
Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
During the scan it will prompt you to remove files, click OK
When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
Save the report to your desktop
Reboot to normal mode.

Post a new HijackThis log and the log from Ewido.

Your UEFI/BIOS (version A13) dates from 2009.  Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any UEFI/BIOS updates available for your system.  If you are able to install the update through Windows (without booting from an external drive), then go ahead and update it.Please don't use CCleaner while we're troubleshooting.  It'll delete some of the reports/files that we use. There is a driver named uroogb.sys (in C:\Windows\System32\drivers) that isn't found elsewhere in the system.Could you please have a look at it's properties and see if there's any information on it that we don't have?I also searched Google for it and there's no record of a driver by that name there. This is suspicious and you should perform an antimalware scan with another antivirus to ensure that you're not infected. If infected, I'd suggest posting over in the Am I Infected forum:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/Please read the pinned topics at the top of the forum for instructions on how to post there.  Please update these older drivers. RAM: 2815 MbClick to expand...

3GB of RAM would be 3072MB, video is using 256MB (1MB unaccounted for)
You need to increase the RAM to 4GB. Even though a 32 bit version of Windows can only use about 3.5MB, you will notice the increse.
I've made sure all our Windows 7 computers are running 4GB. I've talked a friend into buying more RAM so two of his slow computers would be peppier. He has noticed the difference.

As far as Java, MS discontinued java with Windows 2000. You should not have MS JVM on a windows 7 computer.

Dell Latitude w/ Windows XP, 25% free space. Most time it is extremly slow (like today), while other times it moves along at a respectable speed. The only thing that seems to help is running Lavasoft (just ran and did a complete restart) but not always. It took me about 1.5 hrs to login to techguy, print the Welcome Guide (oh that was painful), get registered, etc. then do a quick search in the forums b-4 posting this question.

I believe there are a lot of programs/applications running in the background that could be removed but I do not know what is required to stay running. Am I barking up the wrong tree or will this speed up things?

The laptop sets beside a Jurasik (sp?) Park model (Windows 98) desktop that won't die and just keeps plugging away at top speed. I need the same from my laptop.

Any suggestions appreciated (and please be specific on actions to perform as I am an end user, not a tech head). Thanks...

I have a compaq laptop with windows[I'm assuming]. I have downloaded a file using torrents and I recently downloaded photofiltre.

For some reason my laptop is running very slow. I've run AVG and McAfee and it has said there are no viruses only tracking cookies.

Is there anyway to make my laptop faster? I'm not sure what's slowing it down but we really have no huge files on it.

Whenever I try and watch youtube videos or any videos it laggs and stops.

Hello, I am having some rather serious issues with my computer and my friend advised me to post a thread here.

Last night I was playing some Il-2 multiplay with my friends, and then I suddenly got a "C+++ Windows Visual library error" then an immediate black screen and a freeze. So I hard rebooted my system and was greated by a pixelated windows splash screen with several lines of dots running up and down the screen at random intervals. After trying to reboot several times to no avail, I entered BIOS and restored my computer to factory settings and then it booted back into regular XP. Keep in mind that this entire time there where lines and dots randomly placed on the screen. Thinking I had fixed the problem I went and played some Bf1942 where I got another graphics error and then a physical memory dump. After a quick restart I again tryed Il-2, only to have graphics artifacts and glitches, I exited the game and then my computer gave me a nice black screen. At this point I left it until today and went to bed. Earlier this afternoon I booted up to the same pixelated windows screen, and then a black screen where I couldnt load Xp. I took the video in and out and it seemed to fix the problem...for the moment. Being the absolute genious I am, I figured to test Il-2 again, only to have the same C+++ error and then a black screen/crash. However this time neither restoring settings or pulling the card in and out would work. I managed to get it to load into s... Read more

A:Extremly odd windows issue

My guess is that the Video Card is fried, and it may have corrupted some other data on the way out. Best thing to do is borrow a Video Card and see if that solves your Video problems, but don't be suprised if certain apps (and maybe even Windows itself) fail to fuction properly.

Another angle is to install your Video Card in another computer and see if it works or not. Between these two, you should have a pretty good idea of what you are dealing with.

how to disable it?

A:extremly stupid question...

Hello Midas, the icon changes to inform you that a cd/dvd has been inserted. I don't think it can be disabled. Why would you want to change it? you don't have to look at while your music or movie is playing.

Hi, recently my computers motherboard fried (after 2 years of having it) So i thought, bout time i updated so i ordered the following parts:

And installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and i am experiancing very very poor performance, it strugles sometimes to even have IE open let alone a game which i am deeply into. On my old pc was a OEM version of XP SP2 home and it could run fine lots of processes, games and music all at once but vista jsut doesnt seem right.

the only thing I can think of is have you updated all the drivers for the motherboard?

Hi, I brought a new laptop a few months ago and recieved it pre-set up despite asking them not to. When I got it home I discovered that the laptop was incredible noisy, it sounds like the fan is going constantly despite me not having anything open, then turns into a constant clicking noise. I returned it the next day as it wouldnt stop, and again asked for the replacement not to be pre-set up, only for them to give me another one that was. Unfortunately this makes exactly the same noise after a few months of using it, and I was wondering 1) what is it and can I stop it? 2) What are my rights about returning it as it is not damaged, just loud? I ask this because the noise makes it incredibly dificult to study for uni. Thanks for your help

Hi to all good people out there. I have instalation problem and I hope that someone will help me to solve it.
I have : Gigabyte MB ; SATAII WD HDD ; AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+; 2 GB Kingston RAM .
I have XP instaled on first partition ( C:\ ) working well and I want to install Win7 onto second partition D:\ and dual boot.
The problem is this : when I try to install Windows 7 RC 7100 x86 everything goes well but extremly slow ( and when I write slow I mean slow ) I was installing it for about 2 hours and it had only finished 13 %.
I stoped the instalation because I know that it is not how it should be.
Can someone help me with these.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, My lap top Compaq Presario B1900 is running extremly slow. At the moment I am unable to even open files. A few months ago I noticed it was registering that the hard drive was almost full, which I found odd as I couldnt locate any extremly large files. I havent used it much and now it takes hours to get it going. Is there and easy way to search for files stored that are over a certain size? I have managed to delete files on the desktop hoping I might get a bit of speed back but as at right now, still waiting for my documents folder to open at 30min and counting. Please help me.

Clean boot the machine using the manual method and GO ONLY as far as STEP 3 pls. Do not proceed to step 4.

Having done that go My computer, right click the hard drive , click properties and post the info re the capacity and free space.

On your reply please include details of your anti-virus installed.

If the computer is running with a noticeable improvement to allow you to doanload and run items then please do as below.

Please click http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/HijackThis.exe to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next reply.

DO NOT CLICK FIX or any other buttons or tabs pls. Hi-Jack is an extremely powerful tool and can with just the wrong mouse clicks cause havoc.

Now please run HiJack again, but this time click on Main Menu, then click on Open Misc Tools section, then click on Open Uninstall Manager, then click on Save List. and do the same as above please to copy and paste that result to your reply.

Please note I wish you to paste them as the actual open report, not as a file which I then... Read more
