Output sound to external DAC

Q: Output sound to external DAC

Hello all,
I am new to the forums and my laptop. However I have one question about my sound,

Is it possible to take the sound from my laptop without is passing though my laptops DAC (Digital to Analauge converter) and feed the sound into the DAC on my Cyrus CD player 6XP (2010 Edition) and then onto my amplifier, so I can experenice the higher quality from the CD players DAC rather than my computers.

The ports I have on my laptop are:

1x Headphones out
3x USB
1x Card Reader
1x Microphones In
1x VGA out
1x Network out

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Output sound to external DAC

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Short answer ... probably not.

However, there are some high quality dacs on the market that will connect to your computer by USB or Firewire and deliver mind blowing good sound... There's a lot of them and at a very wide range of prices, so do some google searches....

But do let me caution you... unless you have exceptionally good audio gear the audible improvements are likely to be lost to plastic speaker boxes, weak power supplies and poorly designed sub-woofers....

DAC vs Soundcard on high end gear such as McIntosh Audio... "WOW"
DAC vs Soundcard on $199 home theater in a box... "Why did I waste my money".

I am getting a laptop. Right now I am deciding between regular "High Definition Audio 2.0" and a "ExpressCard Sound Blaster X-Fi Laptop Sound Card with Wireless Receiver Bundle". The latter is 134 dollars more. Would the latter make the output of sound better on external speakers. Say if you're a DJ, and you use the laptop, would the sound coming out of the speakers at those high volumes be much better if you have the better soundcard? Or does it not have any effect on the output sounds? Thanks!

GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3+ - GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 3.1)

(Note 3) Simultaneous output for DVI-D and HDMI is not supported.

What I'm trying to do is output just my sound to the receiver via HDMI cable, but still use the DVI to my monitor for video. From the note above taken from the MB specs, sounds like this is not possible.

This is new business to me and wondering how others do this, seems little information I can find. I am ordering a HDMI to DVI cable so I can disconnect the DVI cable from the computer and instead run both video and sound through HDMI to the receiver, then the video to the monitor. Hoping this works.

If all fails then I am relegated to separate digital through S/PDIF optical link, to my receiver. According to the experts this is less than ideal since now, the multi-channel dolby and DTS signals can only be received via HDMI.

Wondering if I get a Blu-ray player for my computer how this is going to all work out. Hoping that HDMI to DVI cable does the trick.

Anyone with experience with this kind of set-up and the aforementioned hardware greatly appreciated.

And Happy NEW YEAR!

A:Gigabyte HDMI output to Yamaha receiver - no sound output

As you have a separate video card, its capabilities should determine how the video works, not the motherboard. The video is routed to the video card.

If you had some type of integrated Video on the motherboard then the motherboard's specs would apply. For example, I have an Intel i7 3770 CPU and this model has built in Intel HD4000 video which is routed to motherboard video connectors and thus the motherboard would determine how the video is distributed. However, I'm using a separate video card and thus that determines how video is distributed.

It's the most suspicious sound I've ever heard. It sounds exactly like fat, felt tip marker making a quick check on paper. It can also be compared to a rat sniff or a piece of paper being turned. I wear headphones and can hear this noise occasionally for up to 15 minutes. It likes to happen at night, when 'they' are active ( humor me ). Because of the sneaky, low volume, discreet, low down, creepy, stalky, shifty sound I am disposed to imagine that someone is looking through my files for credit information and they are unaware of these sounds from my sound card, or they don't care about the sound because they are safe from being caught.

Sound like I'm crazy? Just paranoid. I did say it makes me imagine. The kind of person I am is the same kind that will run system restore at a moment's notice for anything that looks suspicious or a NoScript violation. Because that sound is clearly designed to resemble a sniffing rat doing something sneaky on my computer. I tried to record the output with Audacity 1.3, but it had stopped before I had recorded anything.

My setup:

Windows XP Pro 64 bit Service Pack 2
Verizon High Speed Internet
Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller
LinkSys Router routing to a Windows 7 laptop, WPK-PSK, TKIP
Soundblaster Live!

A:Solved: Suspicious sound coming from sound card output.

It was that Windows XP search dog. When you ctrl + f to open the search side bar in a window there is an animated dog that seems innocuous. Every 15 minutes or so it will scratch itself and make that noise twice. As long as that search side bar is open, minimized or not, that noise will persist.

A:How can I get sound output from sound card when streaming video?

Hello green,

You get sound from your microphone? I don't think I am understanding. Sound should come from your sound card. You plug the speakers into the back of the computer and into the sound card (green jack). The mic receives sound. My mic is USB so it doesn't use any jack other than the USB port, but if you use the sound card, it goes into the purple jack

Do you have the audio driver installed? This should be right: http://support.acer.com/product/defa...x?modelId=2192

Hi & Welcome to the Forum,

There typically are 3 settings:

1. Notebook Only
2. External Only
3. Notebook & External (extend or clone)

Have you tried to switch before closing the notebook lid to both 2 & 3?

Think on most dells its FN + F8. Try pressing FN +F8 to display only external before closing notebook.

Lastly, have you checked to make sure the notebook is staying awake when lid is closed?

Also, I've tried the FN+F8 route and it does the same thing. Both screens go blank and the LCD TV (external monitor) says invalid format. Its almost like when the lid is closed it changes the resolution to a non displayable one. Happens with both FN+F8 and the lid close method. I never had this problem with XP. Please help.

For me this works only if I first disconnect the main (laptop) display, showing desktop only on external, secondary display. If both displays are used in extended desktop mode, closing the lid also turns external display off.

I need to write a script or command file for windows 2003 Server to automate the running of various executables from the command line.

I need to be able to send various strings or keystrokes to these programs depending on the text output by these programs.

I need something similar to the waitfor and respond commands used in dialup scripts but to be applied to a command line window.

Does anyone know of such a tool if there is a scripting language that includes this functionality.

Regards

Craig

A:Scripting and responding to output from external commands

If the windows/DOS command line capability doesn't do it for you, you can add in the tools that are found in the resource kit. If the combination still isn't good enough (because it still sucks), you could install cygwin which would give you a bash shell and access to most of the available linux/unix commands as well.

I recently purchased a ThinkPad X1 Yoga 3rd Gen connected to a Thunderbolt Dock. The display of this model is capable of displaying a maximum  resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels (WQHD/1440p) using integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics. I have connected an external monitor - a Dell UltraSharp U2713HM - also capable of a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. If the integrated graphics processor can output 1440p on the Yoga, am I wrong to assume it can output 1440p to an external montor? The reason I ask is because I am only outputting 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD/1080p) to the Dell. I have an HDMI cable capable of transmitting a maximum resolution of 3840  2160 pixels between the dock and the monitor. I've gone over all the settings I can find but cannot select anything more than FHD on the Dell. What am I doing wrong?

I have bought this device as used from ebay. It is working fine except that the External VGA connection does not work. I am using win 7 and have it does recognize the external display correctly and I can configure it as an extended display. However the external display does not show anything. The external VGA monitor is fine as it works with other Laptop machines. I have tried using UBUNTU Live CD on this machine and tried to make the external display work (and it can also recongize the external display and configure it) but there is no picture. I also connected the external display to the vga port and then re-booted the machine but still no picture. I have tried changing the bios settings for the display as well but all my actions point to a hardware fault.

I am not sure if it is a manufacturing fault ? Do you know if this issue has been reported earlier to you. Is there a product recall issued for this?
Please advise as I need to connect this external display but am sure that it is a hardware fault with your device.

Hi buddy,

Have you already tested it with ?factory settings?? I mean the preinstalled Windows from Toshiba with all drivers and tools. If you have the Toshiba recovery disk you should boot from this disk and install Windows with all drivers and tools.

Furthermore you can switch between external and internal monitor using FN+F5 key combination. Does this work?

I have an external battery ((HSTNN-OB24) for an Elitebook 8730w. I want to use it to supply power to other devices, but cannot find an output cable that fits the battery connector (that fits into the secondary battery port on the underside of the laptop). Apple makes them to fit on their external batteries in order to power ipads, iphones, etc.

The HP external battery isn't made with an output USB port or anything user-friendly for anything other than supplying power when connected directly to the laptop through that underside port (it's called the "secondary battery connector").

The external battery is hardly used with the laptop, so bascially it's a paperweight most of the time. Is there a universal 6-pin connector cable (I'll call it a doo-hickie) that is designed to do what I'm trying to do?

Thanks.

Kind of a strange problem that has surfaced for no apparent reason. The PC in question is an older HP (originally W7x64) desktopPC (slim wprkgroup style) that was upgraded to W10x64 last year. It has an internal speaker. So normally I could plug in a standard 1/8" cable with R/L RCA outputs and the audio would switch (as expected) from the internal speaker to the external output. Now, it's like the green speaker jack doesn't "see" that I've connected an external cable. Rather, the internal speaker continues to run as if no cable has been connected. Same situation if I plug headphones into the appropriate jack. I have also confirmed that the audio receiver RCA input jacks (where I'm sending the signal) doen't detect an input source. So apparently the PC is not sending any audio signals to the green audio output jack.

I've experimented with changing default devices, disabling and enabling, and also uninstalling the driver and re-detecting it through device manager. Everything looks normal so I'm truly perplexed as to why the audio output won't switch.

Anyone have some ideas on what else I can try?

The display port supports max 2560 x 1600 /32bit resolution.
But the available external resolution depends on the external monitor and the graphic card driver.
If both would support the favorite resolution (1024 / 768 ), you should be able to choose this?

Hi,

I'm a college student with a desktop computer. Whenever I come home, I leave my speakers at school.

I used to have Windows Vista. When I'd come home, I could listen to music without headphones or speakers. In other words, sound would come from my sound card.

I now have Windows 7, which will only play sound when I have headphones or speakers. How can I enable Windows to let sound play from my sound card when I don't have any other means of output?

A:Sound Output

Normally, desktops do not have speakers. If yours does, it's not the usual configuration on a desktop. Best to checkwith HP to see what you need to do, as you may need some special HP audio software to get it to work.

I've worked on several HP desktops and none of them had internal speakers.

I just noticed today when I was going to listen to some MP3's that my sound card makes a buzz on the output jack, a really high buzz you can't hear anything but the buzz and a small echo of the music. I'm 100% sure its in the output jack, I also tryed hooking up my headphones to the card and I got that buzzing noise in the headphones too. I didn't hot plug the speakers, and theres nothing wrong with them I have been listening to them all day through my cd player so there has to be some hardware problem. I messed around with the settings and nothing changed. I have rebooted my computer several times and messed with the connection jacks to my amp and still no change. I just used the output jack the other day when watching a dvd and it worked fine. The only thing that would effect the system that I've done to my computer since I watched the dvd is that I ran windows disk defragmenter and I got an error lke 30 seconds after the screen saver came on(I forgot to disable it). I have windows 98, AMD Duron 800 MHZ processor, 192 mb of ram, 40 gig drive. I've gone through the hardware settings and nothing has changed in the sound card drivers.

Usually when any piece of audio electronics has that irritating buzzing sound with faint music in background a physical ground is missing or a leak to ground has occurred.
You may have developed a problem in your audio card or with external connections.
Make sure all you physical connections to the card are good.
You may also want to remove the card from you PC and clean all the contacts on the card and reinsert.
After all above is tried you may want to remove the audio card from device manager and reinstall all your drivers.
If reinstalling and cleaning all contacts does not solve the problem you may have a defective card.

Hi there ive recently put my Girlfriend's old PC back together and proceeded to install of the driver's. The problem is the PC is emitting so sound through the speaker's i visited the manufacturers website and downloaded the drivers from there yet still no luck, upon opening the Case i found a Cable labelled Speaker that was not connected to anything (its the same kind of cable as PWR LED,RESET SW etc) however unlike the majority of PC's ive built it has no pins to insert the Speaker cable into there is a part on the Motherboard that says speaker however, there's no pins built in to accomadate it the only other slot i could find that the Speaker cable could fit into was labelled SPDIF_OUT, but upon inserting the cable there nothing happens, The motherboard has 3 ports upon which an AV Jack (for my speaker's can fit into) pink green and blue, im assumming its supposed to be green, however i have tryed the other's also

The MotherBoard is : FOXCONN RC4017MA-RS2
OS: WINDOWS XP SP3
CPU: INTEL penium 4 3GHz
RAM: 1.5GB

The sound card is built into the Motherboard.

Also upon entering Device manager there is no yellow checks at all.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

A:Pc No Sound Output

The speaker inside the case is used to emit the POST beep to let you know the computer hardware has passed the test and can boot. It does not play sounds from Windows or your audio. The Green plug is the Speaker out for your computer.
Boot into Setup (Bios) and make sure the onboard Audio is Enabled. At bootup you should get the new hardware wizard. You may need to download the driver from the Motherboard manufacturer If you don't know the model # of the motherboard then download Speccy and it will tell you the info you need.

So when i connect it my laptop with an external monitor i cant see anything right from resolution or colors side.Is this normal? there is nothing wrong with graphics card the discrete and the integrated are perfectly working i cant just get passed this issue though..

My Thinkpad Yoga 15 has a problem, which may or may not be related to the BIOS update recently performed. When booting, the bootup screen only appears on an external monitor via the HDMI output. When performing the hardware tests in the BIOS, tests are done on the HDMI-connected display, the internal display does not seem to be recognized. I verified this using both Linux and Windows. It does not seem to be a hardware failure; I have been able to get the display on the internal LCD a few times, by powering down the laptop, holding the power button for about 20 seconds, then powering back on while pressing F1. The laptop will then function for a while, but loses its display after coming out of sleep. Needless to say, this is unworkable. Does anyone have any tips on how this could be fixed in a more permanent fashion or any indication to cause? BIOS does not allow me to turn off NVIDIA, or its opposite, to enable it exclusively. I also tried different drivers, from both Lenovo as well as NVIDIA and Intel, but to no avail. Any pointers appreciated.

Hello, My Acer randomly BSOD with PNP error and after restart I have no sound and I get a red x on my speaker icon in the lower right corner where the clock is. I checked the Device Manager and I get a yellow exclamation mark under System Devices and it seems the problematic device is Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller. Under Sound, video and game controllers I have only one driver left - NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM). When I click View --> Show hidden devices it shows the audio drivers which means they are disabled somehow, I think? Anyhoo, I've updated the problematic driver and hoped that this solved the issue but to no avail. I'm afraid to uninstall the driver because it's under System Devices and not under Sound, video and game controllers categories. I am starting to think it might be an hardware issue, but I seriously hope not. Perhaps you have some ideas what I could try to fix this?

Ok...

I've got a Dell Vostro 200 with rear panel jacks for front/centr/rear speaker SurroundSound and RealTek HD Audio Manager...

I play on CombatArms, an online, team-based First Person Shooter put out by Nexon (nexon.net, they also run DungeonFighter, MapleStory & Vindictus).

Game sounds come thru standard Audio Out jack, and you can talk to team members thru Mic/Line in with "Mic On/Talk" toggle being key-mapable...

Headsets are VERY popular...

I have a CombatArms Playlist on my Windows Media Player, which I run while in-game. Output thru standard Audio Out Jack.

I have the various volume settings (System Master Volume, Media Player Volume, Game Sounds Master Volume, Sound Effects Volume and VoiceChat Volume) adjusted so the gunfire (gamesounds) is BARELY audible over the music and team members (VoiceChat) are SOFTER than the Lead Vocals but LOUDER than the Back-up Vocals of the bands.

Here's what I'd LIKE to be able to do...

I want to loop the MUSIC output to the Mic/Line input THRU the "Mic On" toggle key so that whenever I hit (or hold) the "Talk" button the music is ALSO broadcast to my team...

I tried a basic 3.5mm splitter but it caused an echo effect when team members responded. I assume this was caused by the fact that game sound AND music are coming thru the same jack...

Is there a way to separate those two signals so I can inflict my musical tastes on my team mates?

Thanks

This seems to be my week for mysteries.

Last evening, I noticed I was not getting sound from my speakers... nothing... systems sounds, MP3's, etc. I checked the obvious things like volume control, mute, etc. All good.

This morning, after a reboot, same thing.

If I play something and crank the volume WAY up, I can faintly hear it.

I've checked everything I know to, but feel I'm missing something. This change happened abruptly with no other changes. I would think that if the sound card went south, I would hear absolutely nothing. This is like a level setting thing... that I can't find.

Ideas appreciated.

Ok, this is driving me crazy...

I am trying to record my in game sounds and my microphone sounds from FRAPS. I have tried routing the sound by choosing "Listen to this" under the microphone options. However, then I can't talk correctly because I hear myself. So what I need is some software or configuration that is going to let me hear my ingame sounds, record them, record my voice into my mic, but not hear my voice. Thanks.

Windows 7 Ultimate
Motherboard: ASUS M4A78T-E

I recently got a mic and when i play games and try and talk to my friends from teamspeak all the noise from the game comes through the mic really loudly so they can't hear me and its just noise from the game. This happens even when i turn my speakers and headphones totally off and put volumes to lowest. The only thing i can do to fix it is turn the volume off totally off in the game, but then i can't hear anything, even if its on very slightly it comes through to my friends computer like a fog horn.

I use AC'97 OnBoard audio anyone know how to fix this problem i tried everything i have the latest drivers and set everything to mute except wave sound main volume and mic and the problem persists. I set all the drop down tabs to microphone and headset but this doesn't make a difference.

please help

I'm using Edirol UA3D. The sound is fine for recording with Line In but the output to my speakers is very low. When I switch to Stereo Mix and record the output to my speakers is perfect. Why can't I hear what I'm recording with Line In at a sufficient volume? Thanks and Happy New Year 2012 all of you at Tech Support Forum!

Hi,My problem is that one fine day the sound output on my desktop computer went very low without any reason or warning. I did everything I could, tried with different speakers, even with my stereo system, but the sound was low in all of them, so I figured this had to be a hardware problem inside the computer - or specifically on the motherboard, since I use the onboard sound output of my Intel DG31PR.I think it started after - or just around the time - I changed my power supply unit (my computer had begun to restart by itself, esp when I tried to use the cd-rom drive, I checked and saw the power supply fan had stopped turning, so I replaced the PSU and all the problems went away, all except this one!) So I exchanged my new power supply for another unit, but the sound problem is still there. I've been struggling with this a long time, so all the obvious explanations are ruled out. A:Onboard Sound Output gone very low

Welcome to Bleepingcomputer.

If you feel your on-board sound chip is failing, you can always purchase a decent add in sound card and turn off the on-board.

I can see your volume controls are all maxed out, I should advise you that certain software such as Windows Media Player has its own built in volume control.

You should make sure you have adjusted those controls as well as your on-board chips volume properties.

Bruce.

A:Solved: Sound Output Way Down... Nearly Off

Solved!

I did a complete power down / power up and all is well now.

Must have been some sort of reset.

Wish I had a more technical answer than that.

Oh, well...

Just joined and hope this will be a good place to have some questions answered as they come up...

Like this one....!

Is the output of a standalone sound card sufficient to power a set of very efficient home stereo speakers in a small room for background music?....not real loud cuz it's next to a bedroom....

.....Or should the output be fed into the aux/input of a stereo amp/receiver to power the speakers?

I want to listen to my mp3s with my existing stereo speakers.....

Hello, please help.

I have my laptop Dell Studio connected to Hitachi HDTV input, the problem is that the TV displays picture (although not in full recommended resolution, not sure why either), but the sound is not coming out from the TV speakers. The audio device manager shows as if sound is being used, the little green bars move up/down when something is being played but no actual sound is heard.

I have attached a picture of the audio device manager page to show you how is configured right now.

I'm desperate and I don't know what to do.

I have used Magix audio cleaning lab for many years for recording sound on my PC however since upgrading to Windows 7 this program will not record sound and I have been forced to use Audacity which is much less user friendly.

After investigation I have found the problem is that Windows 7 outputs sound as WASAPI and that Magix software does not support this format.

Is it possible to chnage the sound output to MME which Magix can and does handle?

Ok, so here's my problem:

I need to voice chat, but I it doesn't play my voice. As the title sais, the sound output from my speakers goes directly in the input for my microphone. And I don't want that... How do I fix this?

I have Realtek HD audio onboard, if that helps..

Sorry for my bad English,

Is it possible to change the output device of a sound playing on my computer?

Like, can I let iTunes play on my USB headphones while sound in Firefox plays on my non-USB speakers?

The only program that I know that has this built in functionally is Skype and other Voip programs. For example, I can listen to music on my speakers while talking on Skype using my headphones.

Is there any 3rd party software I can use to "force" certain programs to output to certain devices?
