I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello
I am using MDT 2013.  I've imported the driver pack for the OptiPlex 3040 from Dell for Windows 7 x64.  After MDT installs the OS, it reboots into Windows to begin initialization but it never finishes.  Instead it reboots again and goes into the Dell Diagnostics utility and runs a test on memory.
After the test runs, it tries to boot into Windows and I end up selecting "last know good config."  It finally loads windows but then none of the USB ports work.  I have to remote into the pc to manually install the USB and chipset drivers to finish the MDT deployment process.  This has happened on multiple machines and is a repeatable process.  Is anyone else having this issue?

A:Dell OptiPlex 3040 Windows 7 MDT Problems

Did you either manage to resolve this issue? Or did you always have to go through last good config?

Hi,
I am trying to create a windows 7 image to the new PC's that we have just purchased. On boot after pxe network boot I get the message "Please add the network driver to the windows PE image on Windows Deployment Services." I have added many drivers to WDS with no luck and the correct one from the dell website errors and will not let me added it. I have the packaged the drivers into the install.wim and boot.wim using the AIK but still no luck. The drivers from the dell website do not seem to work in the PE environment. I'm hoping that someone has done this before and can point me to the correct driver. I have been looking for the best part of two weeks and i'm sure it can't be this hard.
Thanks in advance!

This machine is not connected to a domain. It is in a homeoffice workgroup with full local admin rights. The feature updates 1607 and 1703 will not install during Windows Update. They fail constantly. I tried downloading the standalone installers for them but they fail as well stating that they are "not applicable to this computer". I even downloaded the standalone installer for creator update 1709, which had not yet shown up in the customers Windows Update just see if it would work and it failed with the same message as well. I've uninstalled the antivirus and tried the Windows Update reset procedures outlined on Microsoft support help article 971058 but same issue. Before resorting to reinstalling Windows I was hoping maybe someone here could shed some light on the situation. As a sidenote, all other Windows updates work fine. Its just those 3 that fail.I know this is primarily a hardware forum but I posted here to confirm a claim from a tech who responded to this question when I posted it on Reddit claiming these creator updates were not compatible with these Dells which makes no sense to me.
Thanks in advance,
Adam

A:Dell Optiplex 3040 with Win10 Pro - Creator Update 1607 and 1703 will not install

A general comment.  The Windows version you have may be an issue.  Its not that its not compatible with Dell, its that some updates will not install on Enterprise versions as they leave it up to the corporate IT department on when/if they want to implement the updates on corporate systems.
Considering you have an OptiPlex (one of Dell's business system lines) this may be the case.

They have the DELL factory Windows 7 Pro SP1 image on them. When trying to activate Windows, the activation fails. Recently our secretary informed me that in the past 2-3 months she had a strange occurrence twice:
The 3040 micro (running windows 10) was locked and making a beeping sound (she couldn't describe the pattern, but must had been very noisy since she mistook it with an alarm going off)
On the monitor there was a blue (not 100% sure about the color) screen, with a big computer icon in the center, no description or text whatsoever, no windows taskbar or anything. Underneath this central icon, was a smaller one with a speaker icon that you could click on (from what she explained the mouse was working) muting the beeping sound.
The only escape route was the power button of the computer.
At first I thought it must have been the new Windows 10 BSOD. When I googled it though, I couldn't find any similar incident, the BSOD appears different from her description too. I checked the event log, but there was nothing critical or error that I couldn't account for. It has Kaspersky internet security installed and it's up to date so I doubt it's some virus/malware; Plus the computer is new (4-5 months).
Now I'm wondering if it was indicative of hardware failure or power surge. I asked her to take a photo next time she sees it, but I thought I'd ask here in the meantime.  - I've seen computers coming up with a screen from the MoBo informing me that the computer was locked in order to avoid damage from a power surge that just happened. I've been salivating at the idea on installing W 8-64 Pro on a Dell Optiplex 755 at work. But a sudden reality check came over me & I realize Windows 8 doesn't necessarily work on older machines. The Dell is a Vista era machine. So maybe W 7-64 Pro would be a better choice?

Hi,
We ordered and received 4 new OptiPlex 7440 AIO All-in-One computers without Windows installed - only Ubantu is installed.  The desktops do not have a built-in optical drive.  I get the following error message when I try to install Windows 7: "A required CD\DVD drive device driver is missing.”  I tried using an external optical drive and USB boot device to install.  I am also plugged into the USB 2.0 ports and not the USB 3.0.  I tried many of the suggestions Google has provided me, but none of them are working.  I'd appreciate any help.
FYI, I called Dell Support twice about this issue.  The first technician hung up on me when he realized he didn't know what to do to help and the second technician said I had to pay $89 for help.  When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she hung up on me. Since Dell likes to rudely hang up on their loyal customers, I'm hoping the community will be more helpful.

I've disconnected default SSD (Samsung) in order to connect new emty SSD (Transcend). I was in need to clone my laptop's HDD on this new SSD as a transit SATA port, because I've got only one SATA to USB connector, used by laptop's drive. I've successfully cloned my drives, disconnected all new drives, connected default SSD (samsung) and - no OS boot. I've not changed ANY BIOS settings.
Ok. I've a look on BIOS settings, and I see NEW (almost disconnected) SSD (Transcend) as bootable device. And NO Samsung SSD in boot device. Only Transcend which is no more connecned to motherboard. In SATA I see only Samsung SSD connecned, but I don't see it in BOOT section.
I've restored to factory and than to default settings with no effect. Than I've cleared CMOS - no effect. I see disconnected SSD device in BIOS BOOT section. What I'm doing wrong?

have recently taken delivery of 150 Dell Optiplex 3040 PC's all with the same specification.
I am trying to image then using MDT.
Before taking delivery of all the PC's I took a sample of 2 to test with to make sure I could create an image and deploy it. This worked without any problem using Litetouch and a defined sequence. Happy days.
I then took delivery of the remaining PC's and tried to apply the same image. However this fails on every PC I have tried apart from the initial 2 samples and it is driving me crazy. PC spec is identical for all PC's and there is only one W10 cab available from Dell that I am using for drivers.
I get a black screen  stating
windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
Status Oxc000001
A required device is not connected or can't be accessed.
This happens as the process seems to be connecting to the Litetouch image so I think it might be a possible NIC issue, even though it does successfully connect to the WDS deployment server.
Any suggestions?

My enterprise has perchased many licenses of Windows 7 Pro.  including KMS activation license key.  And I have deployed the KMS activation infrastructure in my enterprise network.
Recently, we bought a set of Opliplex 3010 , 7010 & 9010 PCs, nearly 100 PCs. All of them are N-series without pre-installed Windows 7 by Dell factory.
I tried deploy OS and many enterprise APPs to these PCs through network , using MDT.

The OS image I used in MDT is Window 7 Pro Volume License Edition which was from Microsoft volume license site. But the KMS method cannot activate Windows 7 Pro. on Optiplex 3010, 7010, 9010 .

After deployment, the PCs telled that the the volume license key is invalid, MAK is required. Windows cannot be activated.

But the issue has never come out on any other computers of our enterprise before.
I have been searching for the solution on internet, but get nothing. And some one said that the BIOS somewhere is locked or modified by Dell to prevent
prated operating system. But the OS and KMS we are using is lawful.
Can any one tell me how to activate our volume licensed Windows 7 Pro. by the KMS infrastructure in my enterprse? Thanks!

A:Volume license activation (KMS infrastructure) cannot activate Windows 7 Pro. on Optiplex 3010, 7010, 9010 ?

Hi,
did you purchase these computers without any OEM Windows license?
Volume Licensing agreements only offer "upgrade", not "full" - an existing license such as OEM, will have the necessary SLIC table in BIOS populated, and this is usually what VL products look for, to confirm legitimacy.
You can use the MGADiag utility from MS to confirm the SLIC table in BIOS has been populated.
Without the SLIC table populated in BIOS, it may be necessary for you to use MAK not KMSDon

If I do a clean install of windows with preformace in mind what secuirty would you include?

Just windows firewall with microsoft essentials? Would that be enough? Its a labtop on wifi (home) but I may be taking it other places at some point..

I feel like avast is a great anti virus but I dunno if its possible to just run it once in awhile? Its always loaded.... It seems bog system down... im also having other issues from random restarts and such freeze...

Anyway what would be enough? Just make sure I don't run into the same problems (of like conflicting programs) messing up windows.

Malware (installed) Microsoft essentials running all time and windows firewall is this enough? Or would it be better to just install one all in one program like

Comando. or avast, or avira with nothing else?

any info be great...

also will I see a big preform boost or is this a unnecessary install that might end up messing up computer more (though I don't see how) I can always factory re install :P

knowing me I prob just keep asking :P for weeks lol..

I like to get as much information :P

A:Dell Optiplex 745 - Windows XP Pro 32-bit Dell System direct issue.

The older versions of Dell System Detect are security risks - if you're running an antivirus program, it may be flagging and intercepting the program.  At any rate, you should NOT be using Windows XP online at this point, as it has seen no security updates in almost two years - you really need to upgrade to a supported version of Windows (at this point, that's a minimum of Windows 7).

However, the computer shipped without a windows 8 dvd, and the embedded product key does not allow installation of windows 8. Furthermore, every department at Dell gives me the runaround and says the computer does not allow for upgrade to windows 8. I have to buy it yadda yadda yadda. When i point out the product page at Dell.com (!) still shows a windows 8 license is included, they ask me what page I'm talking about. So, the runaround.

I've complained to Dell in various ways, and, as I said, tried to discuss this issue with multiple departments, to no avail. What recourse do I have?

This machine has 2 monitors so using the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter doesn't work, even googling if that works or detects such is almost absent. I'm just letting whoever know it doesn't work with dual monitors on Windows 10 Pro.
I've found this link and installed the following display driver to see if that clears the issue + adjusted some PC settings in "Advanced System Settings" Under This PC : Windows still chooses what to do for visual effects and Virtual Memory is now 4096MB. I've also added the TdrRelay = 10 to the GraphicsDriver section in Registry.
Here is the link that's been suggested and the steps I've taken so far, I did skip the DELL driver and went for the initial Intel Generic Driver instead.
Is anyone else facing this issue with their onboard graphics?
Thread I've used so far to troubleshoot:www.intel.com/.../000005482.html
Any suggestions which could help or solutions for this PC?

We have a number of Dell Optiplex 320s, which are rejecting wake on LAN requests following upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7.
The onboard network adapter is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. The latest driver v4.60.0.1 is installed. I've also tried a different network adapter, Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.
WOL is enabled in the BIOS. The BIOS has been upgraded to v1.1.12.
Does anyone know how WOL can be enabled for this model with Windows 7?

I have a 9 year old Dell PC. The hard drive died.

I took another hard drive and I wiped it clean.

I purchased a "Windows XP reinstallation disk for Dell" CD off of ebay.

I installed that onto my blank hard drive. It did NOT ask me for a Windows license key.

After I connected to the internet, my computer connected to Microsoft to verify the version of Windows I installed is legitimate(aka, not pirated). My version did pass.

So what is the deal? Why do I not have to put a Windows license key in?

Can I use this exact same CD to reinstall Windows XP on my other Dell computers? I have a few Dell systems at home.

The Dell reinstallation disk that I bought looks like this.

A:Reinstalling Windows XP on a Dell system........... no license key needed??

Hi True,

The guy that made the System Restore disk probably put the key in the install. Does it match the sticker on the case of the comp? I just went through this and can you can find the key that loaded automatically in Winnt.sif on the install CD. An example is also in unattend.txt. That is just a sample key and not a legitimate one. There is lots of info on the net about this. Magic Jelly Bean's Keyfinder.exe will tell you what key is installed on your boot disk

Good Luck, Jim

Over the weekend I managed to get my hands on a computer on the cheap, but the OS was wrecked. So I decided to wipe and install a new OS. I work at a big box retailer and managed to get an NFR license (It's legit. An Employee promo of sorts. NFR meaning not for resale.) from the management. My question is, can I use this license on an empty hard drive? According to MS's website, this needs to be done inside an existing install, but I've seen all the tutorials out there including the ones on here for either refreshing or editing some registry keys to do a clean install and activate Windows Upgrade version. Will it work like this with this license?

I'm still at work, just wondering about this before getting home to try it.

Side note: the NFR is only a little cardboard license packet, I had to burn an ISO of Windows 8 Pro from a repository of system disks we keep.

A:Possible to do a clean install with Windows 8 NFR license?

According to a response on the Microsoft forums from an MVP, yes you can.

So, the title almost speaks for itself, however i will try to explain everything in a detailed way.

I currently have a Windows 8 (upgraded for free to Win 8.1) OEM License Key.
The License key isn't in any kind of sticker, and the OS was already built in.

I don't know if the license is binded to the motherboard as usual happens for OEM licenses or if it is binded to the HDD (someone said me that this could be possible aswell). I don't really know much about this, but maybe these informations may be usefull to determine if it is binded to the HDD or not: except for the main partition and the recovery image partition, my HDD currently has: 1) Windows RE tools partition; 2) SYSTEM partition; 3) "*" 128 MB partition (reserved) 4) 450 MB partition (recovery)

However, the problem is that i bought a new ssd (i can use it both as external or internal disk since i have an external box to adapt it to USB).
I would like to perform a clean install of Windows on this new disk, i have thought also about cloning my current HDD but at the moment i received an error, a sector of my HDD may be compromised since Todo EaseUS isn't able to read and clone it. This convinced me to just turn to the clean installation.

So, how can i do?
I know i have a lot of options that may be usefull, but i don't know exactly how they work since this is the first time i do a clean install of windows with an OEM license: i could use the mediacreation tool, i can create a recovery unit, i... Read more

A:Windows Clean Install - OEM License

I would not install Windows to the SSD as an external disk. All OEM computers with Windows 8 and 8.1 have the key embedded in firmware. You can access the key with Produkey or FirmwareTablesView under the MSDM table. The key you want is the one you see in the MSDM table unless for some reason the OS was updated to a Pro version. Produkey and FirmwareTablesView should give you the same key.

I believe during the install its possible to not input the key, just click next. When connected to the internet Microsoft pulls the key from firmware and automatically activates. But, write down the key you pull using Produkey as a precaution.

You can download the Media Creator here. It would be a good idea to download your network adapter drivers and any other drivers you need from your OEM support site ahead of time onto a flash drive as the install disk you create will not have all your drivers.

I am not sure what you mean by Recovery Unit. Are you talking about the Recovery Partition on the HDD?

I have a computer tower with an OEM / OEI Windows 8 Pro license stuck to the side.  However, this license specifically says it is 64-bit.  I have since taken advantage of the free upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.  Am I legally allowed to install
a 32-bit copy of Windows 10 Pro on the same machine under the existing 64-bit license?  (To be clear, the 32-bit copy would be the ONLY OS on the machine.  I am not asking if I can run a 64-bit and 32-bit copy simultaneously).
Specifically the licenses is listed as "Get Genuine" and may be a LATAM (Latin America) exclusive.
I have actually already installed Windows 10 Pro 32-bit using the key on the sticker, and it activated just fine.  However, I want to make sure all my machines are compliant.

Hi guys I installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on my home computer with a clean install from Vista Home 64 bit which I was using. Unfortunately the license key I got was already in use which means I only have 27 days until it expires. I was wondering since I do not have a valid Windows 7 install on my computer, can I buy another upgrade version and do another clean install of it or does it look for the licence key of the previous version in the install process? I also do not have my Vista disk either so I cant revert back.

Any help would be welcome as I do not want to buy a full non upgrade version of Windows 7 but will if I have to.

A:Windows 7 License Key and custom Install

No need to reinstall, Just get a valid key and use it. The CDs are all the same. If you have it installed, all you need is a valid key to begin enjoying.
EDIT: Dwarfs statement about the editions not being interchangeable is correct. I just assumed that fact in my post. We all know what happens when we assume.

Hello,I've been experiencing a very frustrating problem on my PC. Around 2 minutes after turning it on and entering the OS the screen freezes and there's nothing to do but force the PC to turn off pushing the power button.I've updated the drivers, checked all the conections and nothing. It also seems that it happens more often whenever I connect the Ethernet cable before turning it (the PC) on. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem but I need to fix it ASAP since it is the computer I work with.
Here's a couple of screenshots of the PC characteristics (I hope you don't mind it is in Spanish):
