Thinkpad w530 eGPU/ part identification questions.

Q: Thinkpad w530 eGPU/ part identification questions.

Hello. I'm James. Specs:W530i7-3740Intel HD 4000 Graphics Nvidia Quadro K2000m Graphics12gb Samsung ramSamsung 850 evo 500gbHitachi 500gb HDD / HDD caddy The GPU in question is gtx 1060 6gb of some brand name and configuration. The prices and availability are so far and few between that I haven't decided on a exact model. I was wondering if anyone could help me indentify what PCI/PCIe and Express Card slots I have. I have looked on Lenovo's part lookup page but I'm so new to this I don't honestly know what exactly I am searching for. Pardon my ignorance. I intent to try a DIY eGPU setup since I do infact have the Express card reader. I know I could use a PCIe setup and remove the wifi card but that seems like alot more of a hassle than a "plug and play" style setup from the Express card slot even though I will lose performance. Lets be honest it's still going to be better than the HD4000 or K2000m. I have read briefly about the whitelist on the BIOS and may have a workaround but I am still researching so any experience into the matter would be greatly appreciated. Right, so any help with maybe getting part numbers and other specfications is much appreciated. Again, pardon my ignorance. Some sites regading the matter. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookuphttps://egpu.io/forums/https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/9474-15-lenovo-w530-gtx9504gbpsc-ec2-pe4c-v30-wi... Preferred Solution: Thinkpad w530 eGPU/ part identification questions.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys, I have a ThinkPad x230 2325CN3 with an i5 3320m and 8 GB of RAM (4 initially installed, 4 installed by myself - both of same label). My BIOS Version is 2.65. I have the problem that I can't run my Gigabyte GTX 560 TI which I connected through Pe4L v2.1b to the expresscard-slot of my TP. I already tried several things such as changing the pins on the Pe4l in every way, I tried to DSDT-Override my system which turned out to have destroyed my whole system so I had to do a new setup of Windows. Can anyone help me out whit this issue? There have been several identical issues that could be fixed with a former BIOS Update already in 2012 but apparently my system won't do it with this update... Just WTF is this thing? (blue circle)? the only details stamped on it top and nothing on the bottom (ripped it out now) are "100". I'm thinking it's a power choke but I can't find any of the same spec/size :S

Ripped the sides off, it's got a small metal coil, that's all I can see.

If I short the contacts where it used to be to see if there's any boot am I likely to cause megadamage?

A:Part identification

An electrical choke:

"An inductance, or inductor used in a circuit to present a high impedance to frequencies above a specified frequency range without appreciably limiting the flow of direct current"...

An inductor tends to limit "electrical noise" in a DC circuit. The "100" is the inductors value. Unless it is burned, it is not the cause of your problem if this circuit board has one

Does anyone know what this part is?  I'd really like to know its part number because I'm trying to order a replacement.  It has the power button on one side, and on the internal side it has screw-ins for the fan and one of the speakers.  It is a black plastic part that runs along the side that the fan blows out and flattens out on both sides.  It was glued to the metal case.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Just got a new Lenovo Thinkpad W530, swapped out HDD for a Corsair Force GT 180GB SSD, and now using the HDD as a secondary drive in place of my DVD drive. I also installed 16gb of Corsair Vengeance memory along with 8gb system memory (did this prior to the hard drive swap, and wasn't getting any BSOD).

It seems to get the Kernel_data_inpage_error after the computer has been shut down for more than 10 minutes.

Another strange thing I noticed, was upon doing a fresh install of windows 8 with my recovery media, I noticed the C drive (SSD), seemed to have had an extra 20 GB all of the sudden used up after restarting and getting BSOD.

After doing another install of windows, I checked the hard drive space and I was at 125 GB free space (166GB total usable space on the SSD), then after shutting it down for the night, and turning it back on in the morning, I got the BSOD and also checked the SSD to see if the space had changed, sure enough it had gone down to 101GB of free space (I had not installed any programs or drivers yet), which doesn't add up when calculating the space on each folder in my C drive. Any idea what's going on here?

Here is the SF Diagnostic report, any help would be greatly appreciated! Laptop seems to be working fine other than BSOD on start up, and the mysterious missing 20(ish)GB of space on my SSD.

A:Windows 8 BSOD - Thinkpad W530

Issues with this device:

USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller ROOT\UOIP_BUS_DRIVER\0000 This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.

Find it in Device Manager. Right click and select "Uninstall". When done uninstalling, reboot the system and see if the device returns as a problem or not.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:

There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!

Hello all, I am looking to buy a ThinkPad W530 from eBay.  I found two options for CPU from all the online listings, Intel i7-3520M or i7-3740QM.  I am not asking about the differences about the two CPUs, which I can find online.  My questions are: Can we tell which edition is newer/later?  Or, does the difference result from customizations? I would like to choose the newer model, in the hope that it is also the better or improved version. Any insider's info will be appreciated.

A:Which one to choose: ThinkPad W530 CPUs

They are both 4 - 5 years old.  The i7-3520m is 2 core and the i7-3740QM is 4-core.  The 3520 has a faster clock speed and will run faster single-threads.  The 3740 will run more threads at once.  The dual-core can address 16GB of memory (2X8gb) The quad core cpu will address 4X8gb

Hello, In September 2015(a few days after end of warrenty ), my W530 suddenly refused to power on(turns off after 1/2s) or charge, so I took out the battery, disassembled it, and of course disconnected the CMOS battery, then after waiting several hours, I reassembled the computer and it worked for about 2 days without an issue, but then it failed again...Since that I could always bring it back to life(till reboot or shutdown) by "just" waiting. So my guess is that there is a faulty capacitor somewhere in the powermanagement part. Any Ideas, where to search, or how to fix it(perhaps I am not the only one)? p.s. I have an 100mhz oscilloscope, soldering iron etc.

Could anyone help me? Thanks!

A:ntoskrnl.exe, BSOD, Win 8 Pro, ThinkPad W530

Hi!

ntoskrnl is a windows process so is very unlikely to cause BSODs. Your BSODs point towards a faulty driver.

Your first BSOD in november looks like it was caused by your graphics card driver try updating to the latest drivers on the nvidia website.

It may also be worth running driver verifier.

Hi,The fingerprint scanner LED on my W530 died. Here are the symptoms: - Fingerprint reader is not recognized in BIOS -I deleted the driver and its files from device manager but the TouchChip finger print processor reinstall itself.  The properties for the device is:Device Type: biometric devicesManufacturer: AuthenTec (I think the company has since been acquired by Apple)Location:  Port_#0003.Hub_#0004 - The following message shows up in the event viewer:  "Driver Management concluded the process to install driver tcwbfadv.inf_amd64_5a48bf8b68a239ce\tcwbfadv.inf for Device Instance ID USB\VID_147E&PID_2020\6&387E66F3&0&3 with the following status: 0x0." - ThinkVantage fingerprint software doesn't find the fingerprint reader I concluded that this is a HW issue with the scanner.  I ordered a new fingerprint scanner for someone in China which looked just like the original (one never knows).  I installed the new scanner to no avail - no LED.  The cable connected to the fingerprint scanner is shared with the mouse. Since the mouse is working OK, there is a good chance that the cable is OK but I cannot be sure. Anyone has any ideas on where I should go next?  It appears that the TouchChip fingerprint processor is working but something else is failing.

A:ThinkPad W530 Fingerprint Issues

I believe there are 2 parts involved: the portion of the cable that goes to the reader, and there is a biometric corocessor on the motherboard.  One of those is probably the problem

Hello, I just replaced the power jack on my W530 Thinkpad but now when I plug in the adapter my thinkpad turns on automatically, without me hitting the power on button, and the only visible light is the power button. I would like to replace the DVD drive in a ThinkPad P70 with a 2.5" hard disk, and I have trouble finding the right adapter. I have found several references here and on other sites to the part 00NY314. I have ordered it from IBM, and it's indeed the right shape, but it's only the plastic shell with a metal bottom, and there is no connector for the HDD. Here's a picture of the part that I have received. Note the absence of connectors. ?I have called Lenovo support, and they told me that the part 0B47315 might be the right one. I have ordered that one, too, and while it has all the necessary connectors, it doesn't have the right shape, so I believe it's not appropriate for the P70. Did anyone actually order the part 00NY314? Were you able to connect the HDD? Where did you order it from? Did IBM ship the wrong part? What's the correct part number for the adapter?

a) I was thinking to copy over my Windows dir from here (fully working XP)... would that work in making it load up correctly?

If not, then onto more questions:
b) I have XXClone to create a fully working copy of this HDD here onto that. Because this is 40GB and that is 80GB, I'd like to make that my main HDD and this my Slave HDD. Firstly I need reassurance that the 'cloned' full hard drive will be in exactly the same way as this is now!??
Next, can I swap over the data from here, format this HDD to keep as an extension HDD and make that the bootable Master drive with all this info on, even the drivers?

Next. Before all this, I'm wanting to create partitions on there of a partition, to make it in total 1 x 40GB (already done), 2 x 15GB, 1x 10 GB (or whatever remains).

A:My questions: Part a) ii

You can only create new partitions on unpartitioned space. (Unpartitioned space will show as "unallocated" in disk management.) Since your drive does not have any, you will need to delete the 2nd 40 GB partition.
Another way you may try is with Partition Magic.

I believe just the letter of the drive.

Hi Guys,

Me again, I'm on site installing this network set-up (initially posted here) and I've arrived at the secure office bit. I now have a bit of a problem... All routers I've been supplied with are ADSL, so there is no option to connect LAN to WAN to add a NAT layer. Is there any way of enforcing something over a LAN to LAN link, or, if that's not an option, can I put another router in the chain, secure this down and daisy chain off of this? Would putting a PC in the chain, connected to the un-secure network and sharing this connection over CAT5 to a router's LAN work?

I know the real answer is to tell the tight bugger he needs to get a normal router for the office side, I was just seeing if there are any interim solutions I could put in place with the limited hardware available.

Thanks, as always for any help or advice you can offer

Danny

Lenovo ThinkPad T460p: After creating a recovery USB (16 GB) stick, I received this error at the end: "Windows detected that this program did not run correctly." This is a new machine pre-installed with Windows 7 Professional. Could you please tell me the likely reason for this error? The recovery files seemed to load onto the USB drive without a problem--no errors along the way, with the exception of that one Windows error at the end. Also, the Q: partition shows 10.5 GB; whereas the new recovery USB shows 10.8 GB used space. I did try the new USB after loading the recovery files, and it did boot up the machine just fine. Problem is, there's no way I can be certain that everything is intact, without actually attempting the complete recovery. I didn't go that far, of course, because I didn't want to wipe out my C: drive. Also, I understand that Windows allows the creation of only one backup copy of a recovery disk/usb (for reasons that make no sense to me); is there any restriction on number of times a user can do a system restore directly from the Lenovo Q: recovery partition? I fairly computer literate but have not kept up with some of the more recent changes in hardware/system software. I will tell you how I used my "old" T510 laptop running Win7Pro, with the hope that someone can tell me how to do (at least basically) the same thing with my new P50 running Win10Pro. I had my old T510 set up with 1 big hard drive with 1 partition (my C: drive).  BIOS driven system with MBR partitions.  I used commercially available software that basically allowed me split that 1 partition into 2 while copying all data into BOTH partitions; in other words, both partitions were bootable Win7 partitions.  Then, after some confifguration using said commercially available software, upon power-up I was presented with a menu where I first had to choose one of those 2 bootable partitions.  This was perfect for me in that my T510 behaved as two completely different laptops, one of which was for my personal business and such, and the other was for my W2 job where I was joined to my employers domain, etc.  Furthermore, again due to that "magic" software, once I was booted into the partition I used while working from my employer, I could make my "personal" partition unavailable so those busy body network admins had no access to my personal stuff.  This is also useful because I often have to share my laptop with fellow employees when we are out in the field, and they therefore cannot poke around in my personal stuff either. T... Unfortunately there' no much to upgrade in these old systems.

512MB RAM is the limit for your A22m (2x 256MB PC-100 low density modules)
1 Ghz is the fastest CPU available for this model.

Hello,
Are there any external graphic cards available for the XPS 15? Am looking to run Oculus Rift etc from my XPS 15.
Many thanks!

A:eGPU for XPS 15

Short answer is no.  The XPS 15 was never set up to run Dell's Alienware Amplifier technology, just their Alienware Laptops.  I have heard/seen some external graphics card adapters but you would have to google it as its a mixed bag.

Hi,
I would like to be able to add a media card reader to my 3010MT Optiplex Dell PC system. I noticed some machines were equipped with one 5.25" bay sharing a slim optical drive and media card reader in one bay.

What options do I have, do I have to change out my current optical drive or can I buy a media card reader that will fit with correct caddy etc in my current available 5.25" space below my optical drive.?

Basically wanted part numbers for 19 in 1 mcr for my 3010MT. Also, would a generic 5.25 device work?

Thanks

I have a wireless modem connected to my main desktop in a downstairs room of my house (where my Comcast internet connection is located). The wireless connectivity is fine throughout the house for the most part.

However, if I want to connect to a slingbox to my tv upstairs which requires a hard wired ethernet connection, what are my options?

I will have no permanent computer upstairs.

Can I configure an access point for this or will I have to look at one of Cicso Power type options for this type of needed connection?

Is it possible to run eGPU via Express Card slot on T430? I know there were known issues with this particular model when it comes to external graphic cards. How is it nowadays? Did any of you try to run any kind of eGPU (like PE4L, PE4H or ViDock) on T430?

A:eGPU on T430

I'm wondering the same, have had a t430 for some time now, and I'd really want to get an eGPU instead of having to build anew a desktop machine from scratch. Please contribute.

is it possible to use egpu external graphics with hp15-272wm

A:hp 15-272wm and egpu

eGPUs are interesting. I have very mixed opinions on them. But to start with you need a port to hook it to. Your laptop has none of the common ports used for eGPU. USB 3.0 is too slow. USB-C (also called Thunderbolt) is perfect but you do not have that. You also do not have an expresscard slot...have not seen those for 5 or 6 years. The only option is the mini-pcie port where the wireless card plugs in. We have seen reports that people have had success plugging in eGPU cables into that port and running them to an eGPU dock power supply and external monitor.  It requires that you run the laptop with the memory and WLAN cover off (see p. 31 of manual below) and you obviously can't have wireless going at the same time.  Manual Also bear in mind your laptop has a very low end "Bay Trail" processor which is not an ideal gaming platform even if you can get an eGPU working.  You need one of these: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8RU3967582 You plug this dock ($128) into the wireless card slot, then you need a video card for the dock (say $200) and a desktop power supply (say $50) and a decent external monitor (say $125)...so like $500 for this setup.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as SOlution" to help others find it.

Hi guys Just wondering if anyone has TB3 devices attached to their laptops (I do not have any TB3 devices to test) and can see if egpu support is possible using the following steps: Right-click on the Thunderbolt icon in your taskbar. When a Thunderbolt device is connected, this icon will appear automatically. If not, select the Start button and sroll through the program list to locate and open the Thunderbolt? Software first. In the context menu, select Settings and then go to Details....Look for "External GPUs supported" to see if the AKiTiO Node will work on your system (Yes) or not (No). https://www.akitio.com/information-center/node-gpu-compatibility Help would be greatly appreciated
