Q: Thinkpad w530 eGPU/ part identification questions.

Hello. I'm James. Specs:W530i7-3740Intel HD 4000 Graphics Nvidia Quadro K2000m Graphics12gb Samsung ramSamsung 850 evo 500gbHitachi 500gb HDD / HDD caddy The GPU in question is gtx 1060 6gb of some brand name and configuration. The prices and availability are so far and few between that I haven't decided on a exact model. I was wondering if anyone could help me indentify what PCI/PCIe and Express Card slots I have. I have looked on Lenovo's part lookup page but I'm so new to this I don't honestly know what exactly I am searching for. Pardon my ignorance. I intent to try a DIY eGPU setup since I do infact have the Express card reader. I know I could use a PCIe setup and remove the wifi card but that seems like alot more of a hassle than a "plug and play" style setup from the Express card slot even though I will lose performance. Lets be honest it's still going to be better than the HD4000 or K2000m. I have read briefly about the whitelist on the BIOS and may have a workaround but I am still researching so any experience into the matter would be greatly appreciated. Right, so any help with maybe getting part numbers and other specfications is much appreciated. Again, pardon my ignorance. Some sites regading the matter. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/partslookuphttps://egpu.io/forums/https://www.techinferno.com/index.php?/forums/topic/9474-15-lenovo-w530-gtx9504gbpsc-ec2-pe4c-v30-wi... Preferred Solution: Thinkpad w530 eGPU/ part identification questions.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Just WTF is this thing? (blue circle)? the only details stamped on it top and nothing on the bottom (ripped it out now) are "100". I'm thinking it's a power choke but I can't find any of the same spec/size :S

Ripped the sides off, it's got a small metal coil, that's all I can see.

If I short the contacts where it used to be to see if there's any boot am I likely to cause megadamage?

A:Part identification

An electrical choke:

"An inductance, or inductor used in a circuit to present a high impedance to frequencies above a specified frequency range without appreciably limiting the flow of direct current"...

An inductor tends to limit "electrical noise" in a DC circuit. The "100" is the inductors value. Unless it is burned, it is not the cause of your problem if this circuit board has one

Does anyone know what this part is?  I'd really like to know its part number because I'm trying to order a replacement.  It has the power button on one side, and on the internal side it has screw-ins for the fan and one of the speakers.  It is a black plastic part that runs along the side that the fan blows out and flattens out on both sides.  It was glued to the metal case.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hi guys, I have a ThinkPad x230 2325CN3 with an i5 3320m and 8 GB of RAM (4 initially installed, 4 installed by myself - both of same label). My BIOS Version is 2.65. I have the problem that I can't run my Gigabyte GTX 560 TI which I connected through Pe4L v2.1b to the expresscard-slot of my TP. I already tried several things such as changing the pins on the Pe4l in every way, I tried to DSDT-Override my system which turned out to have destroyed my whole system so I had to do a new setup of Windows. Can anyone help me out whit this issue? There have been several identical issues that could be fixed with a former BIOS Update already in 2012 but apparently my system won't do it with this update... I refer to this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X230-expresscard-adressing-eGPU/td-p/792909 I hope you guys can help me out or give me a hint what I could try more; I won't like to damage my system one more time with the DSDT so I hope there maybe is another option. Screenshot of my Device-Manager: ? Thanks in advance,Manuel

Hi,

in the last 2 month I read quite a lot about eGPU and fortunately(at least I thought so..) I have a x230 notebook which usually works fine with eGPUs and also in some german forums there where quite a lot people with setups combining the parts I have right now.

Those are the PE4L-EC060A v2.1b Adapter to connect my new Zotac Geforce GTX 970 through the expressCard Slot in my X230.
My X230 has 16gb of ram and I thought that might be the problem but I have also updated the BIOS to the newest version 2.62 which should have solved the problem. I also tried with removing one bar of 8gb ram but still does not work. If I plug the expressCard adapter into my notebook it recognizes the card and i can install the drivers. But if I reboot, it hangs up during boot process before my grub loader shows up (I also tried with an usb fresh installed windows 7) and hangs there without any error or anything... I heard that if I start with the card inside it is normal that it restarts after 1 second because of the TOLUD Table which initializes again so these setups would work. But even then it does not work and freezes.. I also took a video of the booting process:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezwE--G3GtY

If I, like some guys recommended, plug the card in only when grub shows up, it boots but then I get the "famous" code 12 error.

Could it be because the zotac gtx 970 has 4gb ram?

I really dont know what to do anymore

I also did some ... Read more

OK. W530 user here obviously. My first W530 I bought about a year ago and it came with the older USB2 dock with eSata. This dock has been mostly ok for my needs (the sound noisy unfortunately) but I am considering just grabbing the USB3 dock. So a weird thing happened and my first W530 died after updating a BIOS setting. It gave an error on writing the bios settings to NVRAM and refused to ever boot again. I spent a few days trying everything. I liked the laptop so much I just decided I would replace the board or buy another. Long story short I ended up with a working replacement that is a newer revision and was built in 2013 with a slightly better CPU. It came with the 170 watt power supply, but I my dock only takes the 135 watt unit. I'm thinking that the newer USB3 dock takes the beefier supply? It would seem so. I haven't had any real issues with this machine other than twice my cat has tapped it with her head and the static discharge froze the nvidia GPU. Very odd. I also had some instability but then again I did have the K2000 overclocked and running pretty hot. It seems to take some abuse though. I did repaste the heat sinks and made sure that everything was pretty well and tight. Temps at full load on both the GPU and CPU are around 90-95C which is in the upper limit, but at the same time nothing is throttling. At stock clocks temps max around 80C or so. Not bad really. Lenovo did a decent job with the thermal design. So I've been trying to get better battery life out ... Read more

Just got a new Lenovo Thinkpad W530, swapped out HDD for a Corsair Force GT 180GB SSD, and now using the HDD as a secondary drive in place of my DVD drive. I also installed 16gb of Corsair Vengeance memory along with 8gb system memory (did this prior to the hard drive swap, and wasn't getting any BSOD).

It seems to get the Kernel_data_inpage_error after the computer has been shut down for more than 10 minutes.

Another strange thing I noticed, was upon doing a fresh install of windows 8 with my recovery media, I noticed the C drive (SSD), seemed to have had an extra 20 GB all of the sudden used up after restarting and getting BSOD.

After doing another install of windows, I checked the hard drive space and I was at 125 GB free space (166GB total usable space on the SSD), then after shutting it down for the night, and turning it back on in the morning, I got the BSOD and also checked the SSD to see if the space had changed, sure enough it had gone down to 101GB of free space (I had not installed any programs or drivers yet), which doesn't add up when calculating the space on each folder in my C drive. Any idea what's going on here?

Here is the SF Diagnostic report, any help would be greatly appreciated! Laptop seems to be working fine other than BSOD on start up, and the mysterious missing 20(ish)GB of space on my SSD.

A:Windows 8 BSOD - Thinkpad W530

Issues with this device:

USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller ROOT\UOIP_BUS_DRIVER\0000 This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.

Find it in Device Manager. Right click and select "Uninstall". When done uninstalling, reboot the system and see if the device returns as a problem or not.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:

There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!

Hello, In September 2015(a few days after end of warrenty ), my W530 suddenly refused to power on(turns off after 1/2s) or charge, so I took out the battery, disassembled it, and of course disconnected the CMOS battery, then after waiting several hours, I reassembled the computer and it worked for about 2 days without an issue, but then it failed again...Since that I could always bring it back to life(till reboot or shutdown) by "just" waiting. So my guess is that there is a faulty capacitor somewhere in the powermanagement part. Any Ideas, where to search, or how to fix it(perhaps I am not the only one)? p.s. I have an 100mhz oscilloscope, soldering iron etc.

Could anyone help me? Thanks!

A:ntoskrnl.exe, BSOD, Win 8 Pro, ThinkPad W530

Hi!

ntoskrnl is a windows process so is very unlikely to cause BSODs. Your BSODs point towards a faulty driver.

Your first BSOD in november looks like it was caused by your graphics card driver try updating to the latest drivers on the nvidia website.

It may also be worth running driver verifier.

Hi,The fingerprint scanner LED on my W530 died. Here are the symptoms: - Fingerprint reader is not recognized in BIOS -I deleted the driver and its files from device manager but the TouchChip finger print processor reinstall itself.  The properties for the device is:Device Type: biometric devicesManufacturer: AuthenTec (I think the company has since been acquired by Apple)Location:  Port_#0003.Hub_#0004 - The following message shows up in the event viewer:  "Driver Management concluded the process to install driver tcwbfadv.inf_amd64_5a48bf8b68a239ce\tcwbfadv.inf for Device Instance ID USB\VID_147E&PID_2020\6&387E66F3&0&3 with the following status: 0x0." - ThinkVantage fingerprint software doesn't find the fingerprint reader I concluded that this is a HW issue with the scanner.  I ordered a new fingerprint scanner for someone in China which looked just like the original (one never knows).  I installed the new scanner to no avail - no LED.  The cable connected to the fingerprint scanner is shared with the mouse. Since the mouse is working OK, there is a good chance that the cable is OK but I cannot be sure. Anyone has any ideas on where I should go next?  It appears that the TouchChip fingerprint processor is working but something else is failing.

A:ThinkPad W530 Fingerprint Issues

I believe there are 2 parts involved: the portion of the cable that goes to the reader, and there is a biometric corocessor on the motherboard.  One of those is probably the problem

Hello,I ran into a problem with my W530The computer suddenly shut down while inbstalling a Windows 10 update (not sure which one), and entered a boot loop.Once the Windows 10 logo appears, the PC shuts down immediatly. I can access the BIOS and the hardware diagnostic utility, which I ran with no faults found. So far, I have tried removing all but one RAM module at the time and trying to boot, booting with legacy instead of UEFI, with/without the battery connected, even a hard drive swap with another windows 10 computer and can't even boot from it. What are your thoughts?

Hello all, I am looking to buy a ThinkPad W530 from eBay.  I found two options for CPU from all the online listings, Intel i7-3520M or i7-3740QM.  I am not asking about the differences about the two CPUs, which I can find online.  My questions are: Can we tell which edition is newer/later?  Or, does the difference result from customizations? I would like to choose the newer model, in the hope that it is also the better or improved version. Any insider's info will be appreciated.

A:Which one to choose: ThinkPad W530 CPUs

They are both 4 - 5 years old.  The i7-3520m is 2 core and the i7-3740QM is 4-core.  The 3520 has a faster clock speed and will run faster single-threads.  The 3740 will run more threads at once.  The dual-core can address 16GB of memory (2X8gb) The quad core cpu will address 4X8gb

Hi, matanm

I would recommend making sure that you have the latest BIOS for your machine installed, as an older BIOS can sometimes cause issues with the microphone. The latest update for your BIOS can be found here.

Hope it helps,

In the beginning of March 2018, there was a critical BIOS update, which I ran... Prior to the update my system's CPU tempratures, while ideal, where very stable and around 55 degrees celsius. After the BIOS update my CPU temprature reads are all over the place. While ideal, the sensor can read 55c and instantly jump to 82c, back to 64c, upto over 90 degrees celsius and so on [you get the idea], with arbitrary temp reads, without any apparent reason...  Has anyone came across this issue?Should I be worried about this?Should I rollback to previus BIOS version? I have recently purchased a YOGA 920 and a HP Omen egpu enclosure. I am having problem connecting it to my laptop.

First, I tried both port, there's the sound of connect and disconnect, and nothing shows on the laptop, and the laptop is not charging.

I have tried with power cable connected, and now it was connected. The egpu still was not charging (no power delivery), and it only works one port 2 (port closer to touch pad) with charger connected to port 1. If I switch them, the laptop goes blue scree. I can remove the power after it is connected but then there is no power supply.

It is kind of similar to the issue as MrKnowNothing https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/YOGA-920-Thunderbolt-3-Port-No-devices-fou....

I have tried different drivers but all of them do not work. I have updated BIOS and Type-C firmware from Lenovo to the most recent version.

One more thing. Is it normal that thunderbolt controller is not showing up in device manager when nothing is connected?

I have tried it with my friend?s xps, it works perfectly, basically plug and play.

I think it is not supposed to work like this and the egpu should have power delivery to my laptop. Even if there is no power delivery, it should still connect without power adapter connected. Is this hardware problem or driver problem? Is there anyone else have similar problems?

Thanks!

Hello community,  you probably discussed this particular workstation and panel already over an over in the past. Actually I noticed that there seems to be some real expertise about the "AUO B156HW01 V.4" panel in this forum, so I eventually decided to sign up and now hope you can perhaps help me too.I am currently searching for a refurbished notebook around 600 Euro (700$) max and my main purpose for it will be photo editing and graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite) and in the future also some Cinema 4D and CAD. So a rather decent display with a high gamut is especially important for me. Of course my budget limits me there a bit, but I'd rather go for the best display than the most powerful machine within that budget. After some research I ended up taking a closer look at workstations, especially the Lenovo W series and the HP Elitebook. As the latter has the best display with the Dreamcolor option, it is unfortunately out of my budget anyway, so I researched more about Lenovos Workstations and ended up focusing on the W530 with the AUO B156HW01 V.4 Panel. This panel allegedly covers 95% of AdobeRGB and got a lot of praise in forums. But also some criticism (oversatured, red tint, hard to calibrate properly). So digging up more information about that display, I found out that the W520 uses it too, but I wondered that there were so many deviating display-test results between the W520 and the W530. Hi, I am currently using the ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3 - 170W with 2 x 1920x1080 displays @ 60Hz a display. I understand that I can only use 2 display ports to do this so I intent to add a USB32DPPRO to achieve this, however my question is will they all run @ 60Hz. I have found this link which confirms I can run 2 displays at the resolution I'm after, but it does not mention anything about the refresh rate. https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/migr-76767.  I'm just a little confisued as when you start looking at refresh rates on 4K for example, it says you can only run 1 screen @ 60Hz and if you add another screen the refresh rate drops to 30Hz for both. This is when used with the ThinkPad Workstation Dock 230W. More information here https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/acc100247. If anybody could help demistify this that would be great! I am using a NVIDIA Quardo K1000M as my GPU and the Inter(R) HD Graphics 4000 for the onbaord graphics. It's probably worth nothing that if I can get all 3 monitors to run @ 60Hz and 2560x1440 I would not need to use the laptop screen... Read more

Hey everyone, I think this is easily possible, but I wanted to confirm before pulling the trigger on another monitor. I currently am using my W530 with a Dell U2713H external monitor (2560x1440) and would like to add another one. Would the W530 be able to handle Mini DP to DP into the Dell U2713H and then DP out to DP in of a second Dell U2713H. I think this is a common daisychaining method, but wanted to confirm. Please share your setup if it is at all informative. Thanks for the help!

G'day, I feel like a bit of an idiot. My work has supplied me a P50 laptop and it came with a stylus pen. I figured I must have been given a touchscreen version of the P50... but now I'm not so sure. S/N: 20EQS4RV00https://store.emprgroup.com.au/lenovo-877529-notebook-tp-p50-16g-512-w10p-20eqs4rv00-20eq-s4rv00.asp... Screen Part Number: 00NY503Walter FRU LCD ASM 15.6 FHD BOE with Mutto The monitor shows as a "MONITOR\LEN40BA" type in Windows Device Manager (i.e. Properties --> Details --> Property (Hardware IDs)). The screen doesn't respond to finger touches or stylus touches. Changed batteries in the pen for brand new ones. Not too sure if a specific driver is needed. I'm guessing I've been led astray here but wanted a second opinion... Thanks

Please see the picture below. This error happens randomly when I close my lid, and/or move my laptop fast from one place to the other. I get either the error screen below or a blank screen. Both the error screen below and blank screen require me to hold the power button down and reboot my W530.

Has anyone ever experienced this error? What is the cause of this issue? Does anyone know of a fix that won't void my warrantee?

Looks like a loose/damaged connection between the display and the laptop. no way to fix it without opening the laptop. Which warranty do you have? if you have the on-site, they send a tech or parts out to fix it.

Ok guys/girls, no running away now

[Don't look in my system info, this is a different computer]

Background:
I have an 80GB HDD with WinXP installed but will not bootup at all after 3 Repair reinstalls and everything else in the book BUT a clean install.

a) I was thinking to copy over my Windows dir from here (fully working XP)... would that work in making it load up correctly?

If not, then onto more questions:
b) I have XXClone to create a fully working copy of this HDD here onto that. Because this is 40GB and that is 80GB, I'd like to make that my main HDD and this my Slave HDD. Firstly I need reassurance that the 'cloned' full hard drive will be in exactly the same way as this is now!??
Next, can I swap over the data from here, format this HDD to keep as an extension HDD and make that the bootable Master drive with all this info on, even the drivers?

Next. Before all this, I'm wanting to create partitions on there of a partition, to make it in total 1 x 40GB (already done), 2 x 15GB, 1x 10 GB (or whatever remains).

How do I do this?

I did the common method of going into compmgmt.msc under Disk Managment, it was there listed as "Healthy" under both current 40GB partitions, right-clicking so that the the option of "Create New partition" appears. It didn't:

So how do I create partitions of a partitioned drive?

A:My questions: Part a) ii

You can only create new partitions on unpartitioned space. (Unpartitioned space will show as "unallocated" in disk management.) Since your drive does not have any, you will need to delete the 2nd 40 GB partition.
Another way you may try is with Partition Magic.

I believe just the letter of the drive.

Getting a BSOD after the update above. Appears the offending file is listed as an UEFI related system file. Running Windows 10 with all latest updates (other than one above) and all drivers updated through Lenovo System Update. System Repair unable to do anything useful. Was able to restart from a backup, but the update continues to destabilize the system after application. Anyone have any solutions other than cancel Windows Updates? Thanks,RMNY

I would like to replace the DVD drive in a ThinkPad P70 with a 2.5" hard disk, and I have trouble finding the right adapter. I have found several references here and on other sites to the part 00NY314. I have ordered it from IBM, and it's indeed the right shape, but it's only the plastic shell with a metal bottom, and there is no connector for the HDD. Here's a picture of the part that I have received. Note the absence of connectors. ?I have called Lenovo support, and they told me that the part 0B47315 might be the right one. I have ordered that one, too, and while it has all the necessary connectors, it doesn't have the right shape, so I believe it's not appropriate for the P70. Did anyone actually order the part 00NY314? Were you able to connect the HDD? Where did you order it from? Did IBM ship the wrong part? What's the correct part number for the adapter?

Winxp/have Windows Live onecare where trial is about to expire and I prefer not to pay to re-up, so I'mlooking for a suggestion on a good free Antivirus. Once I get one, can I just uninstall WL/care?Unless you feel something like Avast free is better,I've downloaded Zonealarm, but I get messages thatit won't setup without first shutting down the Google Desktop Search..which is my next question... Can I (should I) uninstall all the google stuff, including the notifiers in my HJT?(I'm not having any problems with Google, exceptfor the "refusal" to allow Z/A to setup) MaybeI should use Avast free instead of Z/A?Assuming you require references, here's my HJT logLogfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 6:06:43 PM, on 12/23/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16574)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\Antivirus\MsMpEng.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows OneCare Live\Firewall\msfwsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Analog Devices\... I have a picture of the motherboard and need some parts identified. MBs are not my strongest point when it comes to computers. What are the parts in red.

My other question is I have some older computers but for some reason they will not boot up anymore if I have a usb device plugged in. I have to unplug all USB devices before the power light will come on, and the other will hang at the boot screen until they are unplugged. Just curious why this happens.

A:2 questions...Identify MB part and USB ports

The socket above the power supply connector is the Floppy drive connector. the red socket is the Firewire header connector The 4 black ones that you have circled are Front Panel USB Headers

As a note all these sockets appear to labled as to what they are but the lables are too small for me to be able to read. Also this Motherboard came out of an HP/Compaq computer Here is the HP webpage that has a desription of your motherboard including the connector layout. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...1635/en_us/c01635734/loc:1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us
