Sticky Keys?????

Q: Sticky Keys?????

I'm not sure how to describe this problem. As I am entering info my computer just randomly opens a new blank browser page, or the screen image shrinks, or the font changes in an email. Doesn't happen all the time. The "T" key seems to be the problem because it quits functioning until I click on the point where I was typing. This is a real problem since T is a commonly used letter and it is part of my name so it comes up in login situations. There might be other letters involved but this one is the most noticeable. Is it a sticky key problem???

Preferred Solution: Sticky Keys?????

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi taylor, Welcome to the Forum

You dont really give enough information for an answer
From what you have written though this would sound to me to be a mousepad problem on a Laptop.
Sticky keys would suggest keys staying down when pressed giving you somethins like this; tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

Hi all,
Does anyone know how to turn off this 'Sticky Finger' pop up. I don't even know what it is and what it's purpose is. When I am in Outlook email, when I type it types double letters, puts in double line spaces, backspacing is slow motion like watching the Six Million $ Man jumping off a building (which I am about to do ). Regardless of what I am doing this Sticky Fingers window pops up and says something about accessibility - it gives different options for turning on Sticky Fingers but not off. I am not at my computer, my friend is typing this in for me on her computer because I'm too frustrated to use mine. I have Windows XP Home Edition. My computer was built by a local company so I'm not sure what processor etc. it has, but if someone directs me in where I can find this on my computer that would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Sharyn (c/o Pat)

A:Sticky Keys was Sticky Fingers

I apologize my friend said the pop-up was Sticky Fingers (I believe that is a Barbeque sauce) she mean't Sticky Keys. She apologizes for the mistake.

Well its pretty simple. I was using my computer as normal and I just happened to hold down the right shift key for 8 seconds which brought up Sticky Keys window which is part of the Accessibity Options. This window I closed and I was screwed after that. I couldn't get any of the numbers up in text and even when using the computer with the mouse it had some problems. After messing with Sticky Keys some more and pressing OK, I now can't even use my keyboard. I just want to get my PC working back to normal, please help I have lots of work I need to do. My mouse I can do without by my keyboard I need working. Maybe a system restore will help but I'd prefer to understand what is going on so I can stop this from ever happening again.

A:Sticky Keys/filter Keys... Whats The Problem?

If you held down the shift key for 8 seconds, then you did not turn on Sticky Keys, but rather you could have turned on Filter Keys. Try holding down the shift key again, for 8 seconds, and this time choose 'Cancel'. Does that bring things back to normal?STICKY KEYS:Turn on/off sticky keys by hitting the shift key 5 times. From time to time the computer behaves as if sticky keys and/or filter keys is turned on. They are not turned on in control panel so I can't just go there to turn them off. Running CC Cleaner sometimes helps with this problem. It is not an issue with the keyboard either. On a possibly related note, my homepage keeps changing itself to MSN. Thank you for any help.

Is there a way to disable sticky keys via the registry? I'm sure there is cause on my last XP install that's how I did it but I can't remember how.

Probably not completely short of replacing the keyboard.  If you haven't removed the keyboard to check and ensure nothing seeped under it, that would be a very good idea.

I want to know if there is a way to turn the sticky key options all the way off from the computer.

I play a game alot where it requires a usage of keyboard strokes that are consistant. It then throws me back to main windows and it messes up my game.

Ex: if you hit the shift key 5 times repeataly...it will bring up a box that says something about sticky keys.

I don't want my computer to ask me if I have sticky keys ever again.

Sticky keys (sethc.exe) within C:\Windows\System32 is too commonly replaced by a re-named copy of CMD.exe (to sethc.exe), and, placed into the System32 directory.

From the login screen, the shift key is then quickly tapped 5 times which allows winlogon.exe to run CMD presenting a CLI at Administrator level - this happens pre-logon...
From this elevated CLI, commands may be entered to enable the Administrator account (e.g., "Net User Administrator/Active:yes"), and upon reboot, the administrator account is now accessible with no password. Also, from this CLI at next login, the
activated Administrator account may be given personal security (e.g., "Net User Administrator newpassword" which equates to a new Administrator password being set. I have even seen iexplore.exe run from this CLI at YouTube before logon.
This exploit will surely damage the Microsoft brand if not addressed!
I am hoping to gather ideas on how Windows can be made to ENSURE this exploit does not continue. Thanks in advance!

I was wondering if there was a registry hack to disable this
function all together. I disable it in windows but it still reactivates. Would a 'NoRun'

-thanks for any advice

A:Sticky Keys Disable?

Should be able to do it without modifying the registry.

Go to Start | Control Panel | Accessibility Options. In the Sticky Keys box, click on Settings.

Untick the "Use Shortcut" box at the top. This will prevent the Sticky Keys feature from turning on using the shortcut. I think you need to disable the other options there, too, like Filter Keys, to turn everything off.

Hello All,

This seems to be simple, but I've searched everywhere, with no luck....
I have a physical disability and I use the Sticky Keys feature of Windows.  But when I attempt to use Sticky Keys within a browser window, we run Firefox on all our computers, including our new laptop with Windows 8, the feature will not function.  I have to manually hold down, such as the Ctrl button and "A" for example, to get what I need to happen.
I have ran into this problem before on my main computer, a old laptop running XP, with Webroot SecureAnywhere, and I solved it by turning the Identity Shield off.  I imagine that is not really a good idea but, in the end, we have to do what we have to do.....  On our Windows8 computer, however, SecureAnywhere is not even installed...so i'm assuming its a new security feature....
Anybody else have this problem?
What I would like to know is, how I turn this "security feature" off so I can use Sticky Keys in a browser window....

Hello,

I spilled sprite on my laptop keyboard yesterday. It was only a tiny little bit, but it has seemed to soak in underneath the space bar. I waited about an hour before I tried to tip it over and let it run dry... I wasn't thinking. It still works as you can see (I'm on my laptop), but it's sticky and annoying to use.

I was wondering if I could remove the space bar and clean underneath it, and then replace it? I have a HP G61 laptop. I read that some laptop keyboards are more fragile than others? Some allow you to completely pop off any key and pop it right back in, I'm aware that not all laptops do this, so I was wondering if mine would.

Had a weird problem. Got a box stating that I might want to enable my (sticky keys) option, something about pressing multiple keys at once. Well, it kept on coming back even though I clicked the no button. I had 25 boxes in 4 seconds. Anyway, I clicked the sentence at the bottom which said something to the effect of if you want to change the way sticky keys works, click here. I did, got a list of things to change, stop items. It kept on doing the boxes no matter what I did until every item was unclecked. All I can remember is it had to deal with how you use mutliple key functions. I would like to know where on the computer it is located so I know about it and if I have to change anything that I clicked off, I can. The computer is working fine, multiple key presses Like ctrl alt delete for task manager works fine. I am just curious incase I need to recheck something down the road. Thanks.

Best bet is probably remove and clean the keys...not the easiest of jobs but it can be done and it wont cost you anything. See the link below for some tips and how to go about it. The command keys like backspace, shift, enter etc are a little harder to replace so unless you need to do this i wouldnt bother. The small keys just clip back on.

After being in the shop for a new power supply & DVD rom My PC came back without the Sticky Key sounds, which I rely on, as I cannot press two keys simultaneously, & the sounds help me to check that I have pressed them properly. The keys work and I have all the relevant boxes ticked in the Accessibility Options dialogue boxes. But, alas no sounds even after reinstalling Windows! It’s not the keyboard, as I have tried my previous one & still no sounds. Do these sounds emanate from Windows or the Motherboard? All the other Accessibility Options work 100% - Using XP Home.

A:uh what is sticky keys and how did this get on my computer

Sticky Keys is a Windows 'feature' and nothing to be alarmed about.

What has happened is that at some point you have pressed the shift key five times within a given time-frame. I think it's designed to help people that have problems holding down shift and typing at the same time.

To turn off StickyKeys, simply press shift again five times in quick succession or you can cancel it through Start-->Control Panel-->Accesibility Options-->Uncheck 'StickyKeys'.

This can be something of a pain when gaming, as the shift key is sometimes used in-game and is very close to other keys that are used for important controls like w,a,s,d,CTRL etc.

Nowt to worry about, hope this resolves your query.

Regards,
