Windows vista folder to windows live mail in windows 7

Q: Windows vista folder to windows live mail in windows 7

Can someone tell me how to get my windows vista mail to windows 7 live mail?

One problem: the windows vista mail is on a hard drive that is non bootable... I have access to the drive via an installation as a second drive on a windows 7 machine.

So I can see the vista mail folder. Is there a way to get the emails and import them to windows live mail?

Reloading windows vista is not an option.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Windows vista folder to windows live mail in windows 7

My original Windows Mail is currently on my Vista Gateway PC.

I recently purchased a new PC (Win 7) and want to move, copy, restore (whatever) all of that original mail from my Vista PC to my new Win 7 PC.

Some facts to know:

Email is on my Vista PC, version 6 Windows Mail.

I have set up windows Mail on my new PC (Win 7) and version is Windows Mail 2012

I already have some email on my new Win 7 PC.

Can I export mAIL from my old PC to an external hard drive and use that as the tool to import Mail on new pc?

Anxiously awaiting a response that will let me do this.

I currently have three Email Accounts. 1 x Windows Mail, and 2 x Windows Live Mail.

I would like to clean out all the File Folders in both locations, but still preserve my existing Folder setups, at the same time.

If I try to Export the Message contents of a Folder to DVD [E:/ Folder], I get this Error message;
Is there any way that I can get around this, so that I can create a DVD Archive of all of my Emails.

Basically, I just wish to clear out all the old Emails from each Account, but still retain a record of them, at the same time.

A:I want to save Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail Folder Contents, to a DVD Archive.

Hello Tony,

You will need to export to a empty folder on your desktop first, then copy that folder to the DVD, or place that folder in a ZIP and copy the ZIP to the DVD.

MS and their mail systems are giving me grief. I have a Vista 32 PC using "Windows Mail" and want to transfer email folders (lots) and messages to Windows 7 using Windows Live Mail 2011.

Note: Windows Mail was a replacement for Outlook express on Vista.
Windows Live Mail 2011 is a replacement for Windows Mail on Windows 7.

I tried a couple of things.

1) Basic Export and ImportI exported relavent files: Account info, Contacts and all the messages to a folder (in Windows Mail format) on old computer and used the old "Addias" transfer - copied folder to stick and RAN it over to the new computer.
- Imported (using the Windows Mail format) the Account info successfully,
- imported the Contact info successfully.
- Import Messages - appeared at first to be successful

Issue: Message folders appear to be renamed and some folder names have been truncated, not all folders appear to be there. (Looks like "long Name folders greater that 8 characters get truncated)

2) Tried the "Easy transfer mechanism (Vista and Win7 transfer utility) - but couldn't get the new computer to see the Vista even though I could see them on the network. I thought that this would transfer the folder names correctly.
I'm about to try a time consuming effort of coping folder by folder (export/Import)
What I am more concerned about is that the individaul messages may have the same issue Ie not all coming accross and subject names being lost.

A:Solved: Troubles transferring Windows Mail Vista to Win7 Windows Live Mail 2011

I get a little nauseous just thinking about Windows Live Mail 2011, much less expending effort to use it, but I would try installing it on the Vista and see if it has the option right up front of importing stuff from Windows Mail. If it does, and happens to work correctly, then all you would have to do is find its files and copy them over.

By the way, are you putting on airs with "Addias" transfer? We plebeians just used "sneaker net."

I bought a new computer with Windows 7 and Windows Live Mail. I have copied my Contacts file from my old Vista computer and input the file to the new computer. The file is labeled Contacts in my Library. I can open it and see all my contacts there. But, when I got to Windows Live Mail, click on Contacts, then Inport, then on Address Book for current Windows User, and then OK, the contacts are not imported. I can't figure out how to get them into my contacts into my new Windows Live Mail. Help!

A:Importing Contacts from Vista to Windows Live Mail in Windows 7

Welcome to the Seven Forums, GAN.

In WLM the contacts are located in C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Contacts\Default\15.5 but the Folder may appear empty unless the Protected O.S Files are unhidden.

As you were using WLM on the old Vista Computer you should copy the contacts file in this folder and you shall have all your contacts in W 7 WLM.

Alternately if you have the old .wab file preserved somewhere then you can browse to it via the Import Tab by clicking on Windows Address Book and import your contact.

The third method is to export your existing contacts as a .csv file and then import it to WLM in a like manner.

Good luck.

I recently had my slow laptop cleaned in order to improve performance. The guy deleted my Windows Live Mail folders and lots of other things(mostly unused anyway). He replaced Vista with Windows 7 Home Premium. Now I have lost all my mail. I am now using Windows Live Mail 2012 but can only see the most recent mails. Can I retrieve the previous mails and folders? http://www.sevenforums.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

A:Changed from Vista to Windows 7 and lost all my Windows Live mail.

If he installed W7 on top of your Vista, then your mail is gone unless you have a recent image of your Vista system on an external drive.

That is one reason why I use AOL since the dawn of time - and I never lost a single mail because they are all stored upstream at AOL. I can go back to my first mail from day 1 on AOL. And I use AOL via the browser - not with their heavy app. And this way I can get at my mail from any PC, my Android tablet or my phone.

I use the new Windows Live Mail client to access two IMAP accounts, Gmail and one provided by my University. Gmail works such that whenever you send an email through it, it automatically puts a copy in the Sent Mail folder. So if the WLM client tries to put a copy there as well, you end up with two copies of the email in the Sent Mail folder. The University IMAP account doesn't work like this. A copy will only appear in the Sent Mail folder for that account if the client program puts a copy there.

So the problem is the way WLM handles this. Most IMAP settings are specific to the account. You right click on an account, go to settings, and then go to the IMAP section and specify the folders and stuff like that. However, the option of whether or not WLM puts a copy of an email you send in the Sent Mail folder can only be set for the entire client.

In Tools->Options->Send is the checkbox for this option. If it's checked, I get a single copy of sent mail in the University account and two copies in Gmail. If it is unchecked I get no copies for the University account and just one for Gmail.

Does anyone know a way to fix this?

edit: Oh, and a side question, is it possible to make WLM stop showing the number of unread emails in the trash or spam? They're in there because I have no intention of reading them. I don't care how many are unread.

So I downloaded windows live mail. I started having problems. I coud fully delete all my messages, or so I thought. As soon as I shut down the computer, restarted it and opened up wlmail, all the messages I deleted would return to my inbox, accompanied by a copy of each message. Each time I did this, another copy would appear, to the point where there were 2gb of messages in the inbox. I tried running the fixes- deleting stuck emails, rebuilding the message store, nothing worked. So i unistalled wlmail, went into app data and deleted the wlm folder. Problem solved, or so I thought. As soon as I deleted the folder in app data, it REAPPEARED! I have done this several times over the last week, and sometimes the wlmail folder in appdata reappears instantly, sometimes after restart of the os. I noticed that ESENT was the culprit of this involuntary restore. I tried replacing the esentdll, but no luck. One other note: I also have Windows Mail, and that folder also gets involuntarily restored. Any suggestions, before I buy a shotgun and pump my desktop full of lead?

Thanks for the help

I am not sure if this is the correct link for this question but it seemed a good place to start.

I have two computers that I access my mail account with and as a result I have mail in two different locations. The main computer has Windows XP and I use Microsoft Outlook and want this to be the primary respository of all my mail messages.

I have a laptop with Vista and using Windows Live Mail. I want this computer to just download copies on the server so that I can read them. Then when I access the server with the main computer then down load to Outlook.

How do I do this in Live Mail and can't find it there. I then I tried going to control panel and opening Mail and fax application and I get this error message.

You need more memory or system resources. Close soem windows and try again.

I shutdown the computer and restarted with no windows open and I get the same error message.

What is happening.

This has happened once before and I can't remember how I stumbled on the solution but I did. I have many named folders where I store emails I want to keep one of them being "business". To restore these storage folders, simply choose to unhide them from the Windows Live Mail layout options.

Use the Alt-M key combination to bring up a small drop down menu.
Select ?Layout?.
Choose ?Folder pane? and put a check mark in front of ?Show Storage folders?.
The disappeared / missing storage folders will be restored in the Windows Live Mail program.

Hi, first time poster here.
I have read numerous forums and also tried a few things myself but I cannot fix this problem.

Problem: I updated my system from a HDD to a SDD , fresh install of windows 7 home 64 bit.
When I go to windows live mail my contacts folder is gone. This was just via the internet, I didnt know whether I needed to install windows live essentials/mail or not. (still dont know)

I tried locating files for windows live , but it seems I didnt have any, only windows mail. ( was looking at :user>local>microsoft>

I tried the latest install of essentials but it did not help.

Before the installed the SDD i copied all my program files onto a external hard drive from the HDD. In those there is a contacts folder with about 10 dll files. (not sure what they all are)
I have tried installing the older windows live 2011 essentials (which the HDD was running)and then copying the contacts folder across into the location of the windows live folder from the install of 2011 WLM but it still does not show up.

I am unsure how to get the contacts folder back and working, and whether my old contacts are gone or not.

Any help most appreciated.

Hello people,

I am new to Windows 7 and need some help to resolve a problem I have when changing the Windows Live Mail storage folder location.

I usually work in three different computers (two desktop PCs and a notebook) and want to keep all my e-mail messages and folders everywere I go without having to import messages, update them or keep a copy at servers, or things like that. Until now, I resolved this very well by keeping the storage folder in a usb drive. All the folders, e-mails, acccounts, etc., were correctly showed when I opened the Windows Live Mail application no matter in which of the three different computers (running XP SP3 32 bits) I plugged the usb drive in.

Now I have installed Windos 7 Ultimate 64 bits in my new PC and after changing the default storage folder location at the Windows Live Mail program to point to the one in my usb drive (as usual), I get an error the next time I open the application when it tries to load the messages, etc. from the new location. The error says:

"Closing Windows Live Mail. Your calendar contains corrupt data that is forcing Windows Live Mail to close."

What is going wrong? The storage works perfectly when is used in all the Windows XP 32bits PCs, but cannot be opened in my Windows 7 64 bits PC?

By the way, I don't use the calendar at all and all the Windows Live Mail versions are the same in all my PCs (except for the 32 vs 64 bits versions I supose).

Any ideas? I hope some... Read more

A:Windows Live Mail storage folder problem

Ok, I found a solution. Just in case it is useful for someone else with the same problem here is what I did:

1. Deleted the Calendar folder at the storage folder I was trying to use (the one in the USB drive). This resolved the error message, but then a new error appeared saying that the folder was in use by another application and the program closed.

2. Changed the properties for the message store folder in the USB drive and set all access permissions for it. This resolved the second error and now everything works like a charm.

Hope this helps others.

Thank you and greetings,

I just had my Windows 7 reinstalled and have installed Windows Live Mail. Prior to doing so I did a full backup to an external hard drive. I did not do any special export for Windows Live Mail. I have copied contacts from the Contacts file on the external hard drive file into the Contacts file on my computer. Windows Live Mail does not recognize those contacts. The only way I can make it work is by clicking on a single contact in my C Drive contacts folder to send an e-mail and then do an add to contact and presto, it now shows up in Windows Live Contacts. I am trying to avoid having to do this for each contact one at a time.

I would have thought I could simply copy all of my contacts from the backup drive into my C Drive Contacts folder and they would then be usable in Windows Live Mail. Obviously it is not that simple. Hope somebody can help me.

A:using contacts from backup folder in Windows Live Mail

You may have to use the Import in WLM to bring the contacts from the Contacts Folder in C:\Users\YourUserName\Contacts. I've had to change Folder Options to Show hidden files, folders, etc., in order to show that Folder. WLM may be able to Import from the external drive.

Newest version of Windows live mail is 2012, you might want to download the newer version and it will overwrite your older version, and restore your missing folder. Just to be safe I would do a complete image backup 1st, using a program like Macrium Reflect free. Here is the link from MS for the newer version.

What account are you using in WLM?

I use WLM to handle a Virgin.net email account.

I have missed two very important customer emails, which has resulted in much awkwardness and wasted time.

When checking my Virgin account by webmail the missing emails were there, however for some reason had been diverted in to the spam folder ... possibly because they were new customers and the messages had attachments, so might have been treated as suspicious.

This has made me realise that WLM is not fetching any of the emails in my Spam folder for its own 'junk' folder.

When looking further I see there's been a few other emails that have slipped in to Spam in error.

Does WLM ignore spam folders and this is normal?

If so, can it be altered so that the inevitable few messages that get put there can be retrieved?

If WLM does NOT ignore spam folders, why do I not see the contents of my webmail's spam folder in WLM's junk folder? It has had just 4 emails in it for a v long time, none normally added!

How can I ensure that I receive those spam emails reliably, and that this does not happen again?

This is VERY important as there are consequenses to me if something is missed.

A:Windows Live Mail not fetching from Virgin Spam folder

Have you checked with Virgin.net to see if you can add their Webmail SPAM Folder to your WLM list of Folders? In their zeal to protect customers some ISPs make decisions/assumptions about what their customer wants that does not always fit with the actual need.

A:finding windows live mail contacts folder - hlep!

The contacts in vista are not the same contacts like in Windows 7. The contacts in Vista went with windows mail. Windows mail is not in Windows 7. For Windows live mail, that is a program that you download from Microsoft that is incorporated in Windows Live Essentials. When you install Windows live Essentials you just check off Windows Live mail as one of the options and it will install.
Since you upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 if you used Windows Mail, it removed it when you did the upgrade and probably removed the Contact folder also.
The only way you could have moved your contacts over was to install WLM on the vista machine prior to the upgrade and once the upgrade was done you would still have Windows Live mail with all your contacts.
Unless someone else here can figure out how to pull the contacts in from windows.old you might have just lost them

Hi to all! I can't believe I'm starting my third thread about Windows Live Mail within a month, but when you practically live in your mailing system, any kind of illogical behaviour quickly becomes an irrritant. And this forum seems a marvellous place to report these things.

This thread is about another of those instances where Live Mail appears to be designed to work the same way as Outlook Express, but actually has odd quirks that are illogically different. It's is about the view of the folder pane to the left of the application window.

In my system, under "Storage folders" I have created a number of "category" folders, some with several sub-folders in them. The purpose is to be able to archive incoming messages logically, pending use or deletion at some later time. Pretty standard, I would have thought.

To prevent the column of folders from stretching down to infinity, and to keep things looking as tidy as I can make them, I generally keep the sub-folders hidden by clicking the little arrow to the left of the heading folder, which collapses the view of any sub-folders within it. In Outlook Express (and much other software) the equivalent to the arrow was a plus sign for expanding the view and a minus for contracting it. So far so good!

What I am finding extremely annoying is this. Suppose you have a batch of new email messages that you have just downloaded, and their headings are in view in the main list of emails, and you want to drag some ... Read more

A:Windows 7 Contacts Folder and Live Mail Address Book Not in Sync?

The Contacts folder is left over from Window Vista and if you were to go to the trouble of "reinstating" Windows Mail (the previous mail version that came only with Vista) then it would use the Contacts folder. If you have downloaded and installed WLM (a component of Windows Live Essentials) it has its own contacts database within the <user>/appdata folder tree. You can access this database only through the WLM program (and the website contacts.live.com if you sign-in since that site mirrors your "signed-in" contacts list). If you don't sign-in then you are viewing your "not-signed-in" contacts list in WLM which is also located in the appdata folder tree. If you have placed any contacts in the old Username/Contacts folder, you can import them into WLM.

I then tried to reinstall Windows Live Mail using the Turn Windows Features On or Off using the Control Panel but Windows Live Mail does not appear in the list of features!!

I do not care particularly what Email program I use provided that it works!

I would also like to recover the lost emails and candar information if at all possible.

During the restoration, Norton Internet Security (which is my antivirus program) said there was a clash with AVG free and I tried to remove AVG free. I note that the System Info does not mention Norton.

Help Please!

The download agent seems to work fine installing the Live suite of programs on my Vista-64 system. I can use Messenger without any problems, and can get to my hotmail account through Internet Explorer just fine.

However when I go to use the Live Mail application a box comes up that say Windows is "configuring my system" then disappears with nothing else happening. The application never actually loads. I test the Windows Live mail on my laptop with XP and it works great. Any ideas what the hangup is on Vista 64.

I have 4GB of RAM, Pentium Quad Extreme processor, 320GB HD system.

A:Problems Using Windows Live Mail on Vista 64

Hi Kristian,

Have you tried restarting the computer to make sure the installation finished it's process. Sometimes when you install a suite of programs like this, it may require multiple restarts to finish.

If that does not work, then you might try uninstalling Windows Live Mail and then reinstall it again by itself.

I have been using Windows Live Mail's desktop app for quite some time & it worked beautifully. Now, only a month after receiving my brand new 3 gig HP laptop, and after a couple weeks with no problems, I am now consistently having WLM freeze up and I cannot get out of it w/out using the task mgr.

What is the difference? My new laptop is Vista & the old one is XP. I still have the old one, and WLM still works great on it. When searching for a solution, all I can find is complaints & no real answers.

If anyone has found a solution to this yet, please help!!
Thanks, Kat in Boise >^,,^<

I have Windows Vista 32-bit and use Windows Live Mail for my email. So I have it set to hide when minimized and it's all fine and dandy with the mail icon in the tray when it's minimized. Now, if I play a game or start up Windows Media Center or any program where it switches to full screen, once I exit the application, Windows Live Mail is minimized in my task bar. So I have to maximize it and minimize it again so it will go to the system tray. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Any help or suggestions on what I can try will greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if this will work or not, but maybe you can try right clicking on your task bar and click on "lock the task bar" (it will leave a check mark next to that option). If it works, I will also learn what that particular option is for too! Have a nice day.

My Windows Live Contacts folder says it's 33.9 GB (36,425,752,576 bytes) with 14026 files and 6378 folders - opening this produces thousands of folders called {0a3191c8-1bb0 -487d-84da-c2832c85b645}, {abfd556e-aa09-4084-8cc0-b18527d7028c}and similar and sometimes several per day are created. The properties of these folders show that some are up to 28.2 mb with 13 files and 4 folders. I only have 20 odd contacts in Windows Live so why 33.9 gb of, apparently, wasted space especially as opening a selection of these simply gets me the message "This folder is empty". What is going on and what can I do?

This has been discussed before in the Windows 7 forum, but I can't find anything here relating to Vista, and the solutions proposed under 7 don't seem to work for me. Suggestions would be appreciated.

The basic symptoms are that when I receive a nicely laid out email with photos from a friend, into Windows Live Mail, then try to forward it to a friend, I get a message box saying "One or more of the pictures in this message could not be found. When you send this message these pictures will not be included. Are you sure you want to send this message?"

If I click "Yes", the pictures are all blank in the body of the email with a red X in the corner, and the pictures are shown as a "slide show" attachment.

I've tried the solution suggested by davehc - once I eventually found where Vista puts the "Options - Compose" feature, yes this is set to "Convert messages to Photo Email when sending Photos".

I've also checked Davehc's point about "Options - Safety options" , opening the security tab and see if you have not inadvertently ticked the squares in "downloaded images".

I can forward the emails through my isp's webmail, but the editing facilities on that are crude: I almoost always have to edit them, if only to expunge the dozens of email addresses that come freee of charge with every one (some people have never heard of "bcc" )

A:Cannot forward images in windows live mail. - Vista

My mother had the same problems when trying to forward photos of my Niece and Nephew I don't have a solution but what I would suggest is to copy the photos to your hard drive open a gmail account then try adding the photos that way I almost never use my live account anymore with gmail you hardly get any spam. Hope this helps
