Plugged in not charging - NOT in conservation mode

Q: Plugged in not charging - NOT in conservation mode

My device: Lenovo 2013 IdeaPad Z400 Touch 20220OS: Windows 10Issue: Battery indicates "Plugged in and not charging"; it is at 0%; if I unplug the charger, it immediately shuts off. History:- I had a similar problem 3 months ago. After no issues for 4 years, my battery suddenly wouldn't charge higher than 50%, at which point it would indicate "Plugged in and not charging." I downloaded Lenovo Energy Management and changed the settings to "Optimal battery life". This fixed the problem.- I have since kept my battery in "Optimal battery health" mode, and I rarely used my laptop unplugged. The program says my battery health is "good"- Yesterday, I used my laptop unplugged, and it died without its usual warning. I plugged it in, left it for awhile, turned it on, and the battery had not charged at all, which has never happened before. Fix attempts:- Went to Lenovo Energy Management and put it in "Optimal battery life", restarted computer; nothing.- Downloaded Lenovo Settings, my computer was NOT in conservation mode.- Tried to run the battery firmware update as suggested by Lenovo in this forum. I downloaded it, launched it, and it has not moved past the first step ("Welcome to the Lenovo Battery Firmware Update ToolNow configuring the program..."). The top corner indicates v00.65, even though I downloaded Version 1. I waited for hours, then exited, reinstalled the program, and the same issue is occuring. Again, it has been hours and it still says "Now configuring the program..." Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I recently noticed the battery was around 50% when I last used it. I thought my wife forgot to plug it in so I plugged it up. The next time I went to use it, I noticed it was a little lower, but I had removed the plug from the wall. I assumed it was the power adapter, so I ordered a new (OEM) unit directly through Lenovo. It made no difference, the computer does not charge or recognize the power adapter is "plugged in." I tried some online solutions and verified conservation mode was off. I also performed a battery diagnostic test and it found no issues. I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds and while I did hear the fans turn on shortly, it didn't change anything. I also tried the NOVO button, but it did not seem to do anything at all. Lastly, I even removed the bottom casing cover and pulled the battery for a few minutes, but again not change. My battery is now extremely low (using my way older HP unit now) and not sure how much more I can do without depleteing the battery where I cannot power it to make any changes. Is there any other way to power it besides the AC adapter?Any suggestions on what is going on? Could it be the charging circuit on the battery? I don't want to make another assumption and replace the battery if there is something that will prevent that battery from charging as well. Thanks,Kevin

I have a Lenovo laptop running Windows 8.1, the power management software came with the device allows user to set battery charging to Conservation mode, battery stops charging when up to 65%, I deleted it for it seemed there was bug in it.

Is there any free software which can set battery charging to Conservation Mode?

I just have a few questions about how conservation mode and express charging work. These two are located in Energy Manager under settings. Conservation mode keeps the battery percent at 55-60%. How is this done? Does the computer discharge until 55% and then charge back up to 60%? Also, if the computer is off, but the AC adapter is left in, will the computer still remain between 55 and 60%? Are there any detrimental effects on the battery? Express charging allows the computer to be fully charged in 100 minutes. How is this done? Why is this feature not enabled by default? Are there any detrimental effects on the battery? Thank you!

Read a few articles on how to treat a battery properly. This I found a decent article.http://gizmodo.com/how-to-take-care-of-your-smartphone-battery-the-right-w-513217256If the computer is turned off, your laptop will still remain between 55 and 60%.Express charging generates excessive heat, can make the battery die slightly faster. It's done by allowing more current to flow to the battery. But generally the more you keep your battery cool, the longer it will live. There are plenty of articles like the one above on Google some are more brief, some are more in-depth and more difficult to understand.

Greetings, I have confirmed that I have some software related setting that blocks my 1-year-old Yoga 910 from charging. This was not a problem from before. Today, I got my Yoga 910 back from service. (replaced SSD under warranty) and thus I have a fresh Win 10 1709 installation. Problem: The computer does not charge while plugged in and turned on.1. In Windows: Shows as "Plugged in - Not Charging".2. Turned off: When computer is left plugged in and turned off it will charge fine.  I have tried:1. In Vantage:  Does not state that the Conservation Mode is enabled, and I have tried toggling this back and forth while plugging and unplugging the charger - No change.2. I rolled back to "Lenovo Settings" and used it in Flightmode (so that it would not ask me to switch to Vantage), to no avail. The setting there too is off, and toggling it back and forth do not change anything. AFAIK, it is only Dell and Lenovo that ship computers with this kind of software, and since I have a fresh installation of Windows, and it charges when I have it shut-off; This must be Lenovo Software Related. I can even sense it is some kind of software, because immediately after boot it still shows that it is actually charging, but suddenly it stops. Probably after loading some of the Lenovo services. I am at a loss. I find some threads about the topic, but no solutions. The power settings in Windows is "Balanced", that is the only profile I have available. I ... Read more

This laptop stops charging when it enters hibernation mode when plugged into a USB-C hub/adapter. The only way to start charging is to 1) wake from sleep and then2) unplug then plug back in cable from hub If I plug charger cord directly in and the hub to a separate USB-C port then charging isn't a problem but the hub is completely shut down on wake from hibernation. So again I have to unplug hub and plug it back in again to get it to function. Also no usb device (keyboard/mouse) plugged into hub can wake laptop from hibernation. I've tried two hubs from two different manufacturer now and they both do the same thing. Laptop drivers are all updated. I tried another post asking if there are any hubs I can buy that doesn't exibit this flaw and got nothing so I assume this is the default behaivor. Is there anyway for me to get a working USB-C hub that doesn't require unplugging and plugging back in cables all day?

Hello Lenovo people! I have a frustrating battery issue question that probably has been answered somewhere in this long thread. But anyway, here goes. The battery on my Yoga 720-13IKB is discharging when plugged in. Ive tried every variation of battery software choice - best battery - best performance and in between, but doesnt seem to make any difference. The battery status in Lenovo Vantage shows that its good. I changed and purchased a new battery charger and still the issue persists. The only time it charges is when I shut down the laptop overnight and plug it in. Because its the Yoga 720-13IKB I cannot take the back off very easily as it held on by tiny scews that I dont have the tools to unscrew ( as in to reset the battery)  I'm thinking it must be a software issue - but I could be wrong? Any more expert opinions than mine would be super! Thanks in advance johnny

I've turned on "conservation mode" in Vantage. That means, my laptop will be charged  to maximum 65%. Sometimes I take it off the charger but not fully charged than later take it on back and it will be again charged only to 65%. The question is, should I charge it fully sometimes to save the batterylife after i used it without charger  or it does not matter ?

hi behrouz,

Thanks for Posting!

This mode controls the Firmware that controls the battery,
And yes it stops the charging when it reaches 60% to prevent over charging and lessen charge and discharge rate.
This is most suggested for system that is always Plugged in to the Ac adapter,

Best Regards

Hi Guys,I've seen many problems with battery "plugged in, not charging", but failed to find anyone with the same issue as mine.In my case internal battery is "plugged in, charging" but it is not. When I open the Power Manager I see that battery is in good condition, AC attached and everything is OK beside "current" which is on zero, so there is no electricity flowing. External battery can be charged, but is waiting for the internal one to be charged first so in the end it also doesn't work properly. For now I have disconnected external battery to work on the problem. Things I have tried:-Power gauge reset.-BIOS update.-Reset button on the bottom.-Changing BIOS settings.-Updating driver. Then uninstalling it and installing again.-Reinstalling Power Manager.I have no idea what can be the problem and unfortunately no way to check if other battery would have the same problem to exclude hardware issues. Has anyone came across similar issue or have any idea on how to solve it? Any hint would be greatly appreciated.Jules

Old battery looks dead and i have bought new one. First time I've got compatible battery and got message "The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge...". Next battery I got - 45N1004, looks original. I installed the battery and got yellow, rarely blinking battery sign on top of laptop. Windows 10 reporting that battery OK, adapter "plugged in, charging", but it is not charging. Battery is not pretty new (2015/12), but it's not used and AIDA64 reports good state of battery. A:XPS 12 9Q23 Power Charging Disabled / Plugged in, NOT CHARGING

Hi DAEMONROD.
Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible?
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hello and peace on you..
I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.
Please, i'm seeking for help

A:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

My Lenovo G50-30 laptop has suddenly developed a funny problem.  When battery charger is introduced while laptop is on it says "plugged in but not charging" and battery keeps reducing, however battery charges when laptop is switched off. The problem has started happening from approx a 3-4 weeks back. My battery was under warranty and was replaced by Lenovo authorised center Jogeswari (West), Mumbai, India BUT still issue reamins the same.  Service center installed a software called OKO care which randomly allowed charging three times while laptop was ON. However this also did not permanently solve my problem and returned back to same issue hence un-installed software. Then had tried couple of other lenovo softwares (vantage, forgot name of anotehr one) but in vain.  Pls organise immediate help as I have exams starting September 19, 2019 and need laptop very badly for preparing and cant afford to switch off to recharge. Thank you in advance. FYI - There is no capping not to charge beyond 55-60% to safeguard battery. I have Windows 10 (64 bit OS), initial OS which came along with laptop was Windows 8.1 which automatically got upgraded to Windows 10. My laptop is always kept on auto update hence all latest updates are installed. I do not allow any unnecessary software installation.

A:Lenovo G50-30 Battery charging issue - "plugged in but not charging"

That sounds suspiciously like the laptop is in Airport Mode, which if enabled will prevent it from charging when on, yet charge when off, just like you describe.  You can find out via a command promptRight click on start and select Command Prompt (Admin)  -or- Windows PowerShell (Admin)  depending on your system configuration. At the prompt type:  powercfg /getactivescheme    and press EnterIf it comes back with something similar to the image below showing (Airplane) as the active scheme,  then that is likely the culprit. Click on Image to expandIf you find that it is enabled, at the same command prompt window type:  control powercfg.cpl   and press Enter to open the Power control panel applet, and then check to see if Airplane Mode is set as your current power plan. As a last resort, you can also type:  powercfg ?restoredefaultschemes  to reset the Windows power schemes to their default settings.  Best of luck,

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.

Things i have tried

1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.

Nothing has worked for me so far.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Try this:
1.  unplug power cable
2.  reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS setup
3.  In Config -> Power menu, select the item about Disable Built-in Battery (read the help text if you want to know what it does)
4.  The system will automatically turn off
5.  Turn the laptop over and remove the removable battery, wait a couple seconds, then re-attach it
6.  plug in power cable, turn system on, and check if problem still happens.

Hello!I have one questionIf I keep my laptop connected to the A/C and turn the Conservation Mode on (and get fully charged to the 60%) would the laptop be consuming energy from the battery or from the AC power?I mean, I bought this laptop about 3 months ago (IDEAPAD 310-15ABR) I used to have an HP with a removable battery and since I'm almost always sitted on a desk, I kept the laptop pluged and with no battery (I removed the battery), I wanted to do the same with this one but it doesn't have a removable battery. What I would like to know is if I keep my Lenovo connected and with the coservation mode on, is it ok? would it affect the battery at some point? keeping it pluged when its fully charged means it is working with the AC power and not with the battery power? Thank you! English is not my native language, sorry!

A:Yoga 500 Conservation Mode gone missing

Hi Jemerlyn ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Since it just happenned yesterday , doing system restore can be a quick fix.
You may jump back to a working restore point to restore settings and files that Conservation initially have .
This restore can be undone too. Clicke here for the guide .

Update us how it goes.

Regards

I have a new laptop Model: 80XR00C1SC and conservation does not work. The status say "pluged in / not charging" but the charging continues to 100%. The registry key says "storage", and Vantage says conservation mode ON. Do I have to install anything else? I have a fresh WIN10 installation, and installed lenovo stuff from the Lenovo site. Thank you for any idea!

I've had my Windows 10 Ideapad for about a month, and have had no problems with it.  This morning, when I turned it on, I got a message saying the battery needed to be charged and showed it was down to 10%.  I turned it off and plugged it in.  After 5+ hours, it will now not boot up at all.  The little light next to the plug is on and so is the one that is the system status indicator.  Aside from those 2 lights, there is nothing - no light, no sound, nada.  I tried holding the power button down for 30+ seconds - still nothing. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi, Lenovo Settings mentioned that it is better to set battery conservation mode to "ON" if most of the time I am my AC plugged in. May I know is this true? I have set this to ON but it will reset to OFF mode, when I on/off my AC. May I know how to save this setting? Kind Regards,Bayee

Hi there,  I have a ideapad Z510 with win 8.1 I enable conservation mode in the Energy manager. Everything is working ok, the battery stays at 60% until I turn off the pc.When I reboot, most of the time Conservation mode is disabled and the battery is charging to 100% again. Anybody else experiencing this? Thank you,

A:Conservation mode disabled automatically?

I think someone reported it too, but for Y500. It works fine on my Y580 though.

Hello!I have a lenovo yoga 920. In order to swith the conservation mode on / off, I have to dig deep into the vantage app. There used to be a shortcut for it in quicksettings when pinning to the taskbar, but that button has disappeared from the quicksettings after updating computer software. Is there any option to make this swith more easily available? I do use it a lot, so this would be of great help. Thanks!

Hi! I just upgraded the U310 to Win10. The Battery Conservation mode was ON before the upgrade. After the upgrade it is still on. I installed the Lenovo Settings tool and tried to switched it off. After reboot all the options for Conservation have disappeared and it still won't charge above 59%. Please help, I'm stuck. WBR,Alex?
